actress!cressida who's a former child star trying to break into her serious actor era but people only define her by her wild scandals in her late teens/early 20s. The whole world thinks they know her but she doesn't even know herself. She's stuck in the mold her parents made for her when she meets bookshop owner!eloise.

bookshop owner!eloise is clumsy, charming, and disarmingly earnest. She grew up well in a loving family but she never quite fit the mold of what the bridgertons were supposed to be. She's struggling to make sense of what she wants in her life post-divorce and is living with her idiot roommate/favourite older brother benedict when she meets cressida.

All this to say that I wanna see them do the dinner fighting for the brownie scene, trying to one up each other with who's had a more tragic life so far. Also the "I'm just a girl, standing in front of a girl, asking her to love me." and the press conference "Indefinitely." scenes ofc.

Please tell me someone else sees the vision. 😂

Guys imagine, Roach died, before the creation of 141, but Soap is able to see his ghost. He was originally following Ghost around, really annoyed that he was using his death as an excuse to not get close to anyone, but when he found out Soap could see him and talk to him he started following him around instead.

And they get really close, like two peas in a pod, except they have to be discreet about it because no one else can see or hear Roach, and they'd think Soap was crazy if they saw him talking to no one.

They use that for shenanigans too: Roach will go follow someone else and report back to Soap, Gaz is genuinely starting to believe Soap has superpowers or something. It's really useful on missions as well, and Soap managed to successfully rescue team members thanks to Roach being able to move through walls and everything.

(Roach is not the only ghost Soap is able to see btw, just the only one he's talking to.)

And then Roach is witnessing his past lover trying really hard to not fall in love with Soap, and Soap trying really hard to not do anything about the love he already feels, and he has to try and convince Soap that he is dead. During that conversation he finds out that something else that keeps Soap from doing something is that he feels very confused about everything because he also has feeling for Roach.

So now Roach has to try and convince him that even if he was still alive he wouldn't have a problem with that. He's known for a while that he was polyamorous, but he hadn't really dared talking to Ghost about that because he thinks he's jealous and possessive.

And Soap is like "oh yeah, you want me to go say to Ghost 'don't worry about your dead lover that I'm not supposed to know, he's actually polyamorous and also in love with me, I know because his ghost told me!' ??? I'm sure he's gonna take that well!"

But Roach is nothing if not resourceful and he manages to put Soap in situations where he's forced to interact with Ghost, and eventually they kiss and their relationship is beginning to be something. They're not really sure what.

And Roach is sad, because he has to watch the two men he loves being in love without him, yes, but at least they're both happy, and it makes him feel a bit better. And then during a mission Ghost almost dies.

Because he was alone and Soap and Gaz were together, Roach was following Ghost this time, ready to fly to Soap in an instant if there was any problems. But there was and he didn't have time, so he instinctively grabbed the gun being pointed towards Ghost's head and moved it as the person was shooting, saving Ghost's life, giving him enough time to shoot the enemy himself.

But even as the threat is eliminated, Ghost is still looking up from where he's on the ground, staring right through him, looking shocked. No, not right through him, he realises when he moves to the side and Ghost's eyes follow him. He also realises that he grabbed the gun. He's never grabbed anything before, in all his years of being a ghost.

Then suddenly Ghost's eyes move wildly around, and he figures he disappeared from his view. He can still go through the walls, but he's kept the ability to grab stuff when he wants. It gives him a ton of new possibilities, to fuck with people and, of course, to touch Soap.

"I wish you were actually alive," Soap whispers to him, holding his hands against his face as he's falling asleep.

"What the fuck," comes Ghost's voice the next morning, waking both of them up - wait, since when could Roach sleep?

Soap doesn't understand immediately, because he's always been able to see Roach. But Ghost is standing in the door, looking straight at dead past lover.

Turns out Soap is a necromancer and he had no idea, though the whole 'I can see dead people' should probably have told him sooner that he wasn't normal... The more he wishes Roach is alive, the more he actually is. And they all end up happy and together. And Gaz is very happy to have won the bet that Soap indeed has superpowers.

The day Roach says, in a wondering voice, "I... I think I'm hungry" is the day they understand that something is really happening and he's actually coming back to life.

(Also, Soap has no control at all on his abilities, he has no idea what does what and why, he knows nothing. No one knows.)

Creators I love you but it's time to wake up

Among rumors about our tumblr user data being sold off to Midjourney/Generative AI, recent Extremely transphobic events (that have been ongoing) coming to a head, another extremely concerning internet censorship bill being pushed in upper levels of government, and a general air of frustration over how the site belongs to and is operated by perhaps the second stupidest CEO (second only to twitters own) of our age, I'm very done with the last few vestiges of what the old internet held for artists.

And if you're reading this, you probably are too.

I know we're tired. We are all tired. It is not always viable to pack up shop and move, again and again and again.

From tumblr to twitter to anywhere else we've ever grown up posting, things no longer work. Our audiences are kneecapped by aggressive and hostile algorithms, our reach is abysmal - if we aren't shadow-banned or silenced for one (transphobic) reason or another, we're thrust into an ever growing pit of hostility where the only thing that drives clicks is fighting and contention.

We're tired. We're so fucking tired. We aren't businesses, we aren't content mills, we cannot keep this pace that modern social media has set for us, to wring every ounce of creativity out of us to profit from and leave us rotting.

The key to staying afloat here, and I cannot stress this enough, is to stay connected to your peers.

Pack up and move as units if you must. Exodus from the sites that are killing us. Push your entire friend group of artists to move from one site to the next that promises you a kinder experience.

Art drives movements, it drives change, it is all that encompasses being human. If you take that away from the shitty places, they will be left with nothing but a cesspit of inhumanity and the people who follow you will be more incentivized than ever to move with you.

Yes, this is terrifying. There are no guarantees. There never was, and never are, and never will be.

But stay connected. Stay human.

Support each other and be willing to hold hands and jump when we all - as a group - need to jump from the flames we're all trying to convince ourselves wont kill us before rescue comes.

Rescue isn't coming, rescue will be found hand in hand with each other. I'm offering you my hand, please take it. There's always a new start, there are always helping hands reaching for you. You have to look up from the doom-scroll long enough to see and take them.

How dare you lock me out when I've just finished watching the extended LOTR movies and now have a desperate need to get my hands on the books so that I can get a better characterization of Frodo, and I can also have a better understanding of the mental and psychological torture the ring put him through.

Currently watching/rewatching

Nice to do a lil housekeeping of what I'm currently watching. Some of these shows have stalled, and a lot of them are with @kiranerys.

To further break down: Watching Solo: Mrs. Wilson: Which I've just started and is only 3 episodes long Silo: current season The Handmaid's Tale: season 5, I've got 2 episodes left Clone High: Season 2 of the reboot and it didn't get renewed The Rockford Files: I'm on the 90s TV movies and honeslty I think one more out of the 9? total and I'm done. (Beth is in the next one and I'm curious) Falling Skies: I'm giving this show another shot. season 1 didn't impress me but supposedly it'll get better? we'll see. SGU: rewatch, back half of s2. it nets me a lot of gifs hence the slower pace.

Law & Order: the og seasons, it's our comfort show right now and we've chugged thru a bunch. We've both seen chunks of it prior. And some SVUs too thrown in the mix for good measure. We've tried some eps of the current seasons and they're uh, bad. WWDITS: current season Moonflower Murders: We've got one final ep, Renae has read the books. Guy Montgomery's Guy Mont Spelling Bee: NZ edition, we've already watched the Australian one and are steadily doing season 1. SG-1 and SGA: I've already done my rewatch of those earlier and we're at s10 of SG-1 and s3 of SGA respectively Foyle's War: given their length once in a while we do one, a rewatch for Renae, first time for me. Abbott Elementary: almost halfway thru Season 3. another good wind down show. Flashforward: Rewatch for me, first time for Renae. when the mood strikes, once in ahwhile Fringe: Rewatch for both of us, tho there are some episodes I hadn't seen in s1 and 5. We were plowing thru these a bit faster but Law & Order took over Due South: Rewatch for me, first time for her, although I haven't watched it since it aired and most of the episodes have kind of faded from memory. Russian Doll: Kinda of put it on the backburner for a while but we just started it back up and will finish it.

That's not counting one-off episodes we might toss in of say Trek.

there should be WAY more movies that have a cowboy in black screaming crying on his knees in the horse pen because he just wants his stoner best friend so badly which is the emotional climax to a hopeful anti-gun narrative that also pauses for insane drum solos along the way but AT LEAST. at least we'll always have zachariah (1971)

El being torn from her mother and raised in a sterile environment full of cold hard surfaces with probably no loving contact ever -> El clinging to her stuffed animal in the lab because it's literally the only soft object available to her -> El spending her lab recovery phase (s1-2) swaddling herself in big warm clothes and blankets and soft textures ->

El reacting emotionally to Brenner's touch because it's the closest thing she's ever known to the contact comfort and parental love she craves innately even though she hates and fears him ->

El with irreparable social deficits due to isolation -> El not being very good at interacting with her peers and tending to stay apart from the group -> El getting bullied ->

El being in the fetal position in so many lab scenes -> El continuing to curl up in a ball when stressed even outside the lab because she's never had anywhere to turn for safety or comfort ->

El craving touch and clinging to her friends and parental figures for the love and comfort and reassurance she never got as a child -> me sobbing forever

Using methods of isolation and maternal deprivation, Harlow showed the impact of contact comfort on primate development with his ethically controversial experiments in the 1960s.

Infant monkeys were taken from their mothers and raised in a laboratory setting, with some infants placed in separate cages away from peers. In isolation, the monkeys showed disturbed behavior, staring blankly, circling their cages, and engaging in self-mutilation. When the isolated infants were re-introduced to the group, they were unsure of how to interact, and did not stand up for themselves when bullied.

Even without complete isolation, the monkeys raised without mothers developed social deficits, showing reclusive tendencies and clinging to their cloth diapers. Harlow was interested in the infants’ attachment to the cloth, speculating that the soft material may simulate the comfort provided by a mother’s touch.

Harlow took infant monkeys from their biological mothers and gave them two inanimate surrogate mothers: one made of wire, and the other covered in soft terry cloth. Harlow found that the infants spent significantly more time with the terry cloth mother than they did with the wire mother, even if the wire mother provided food and the cloth one did not.

Infants also turned to inanimate surrogate mothers for comfort when they were faced with new and scary situations. If an alarming noise-making toy was placed in the cage, infants with surrogate mothers would retreat and cling to them for comfort before exploring; infants without surrogate mothers were paralyzed with fear, huddled in a ball sucking their thumbs, rocking, or screaming.
