I'm going to have to rewatch the episodes again but I was just remembering about how Maomao knows Jinshi so well she can tell when he's lying or when something is bothering him.

This goes beyond her normal ability to recognize when someone is only being half truthful, like all the times Gaoshun can only give her partial details when doing an investigation (see: the twins and the mirror scenario).

That plus all the times she mentions how much better she likes him when he's being "immature", just makes me feel like despite her prickly exterior, she and Jinshi could be genuine friends if there wasn't such a significant social divide between them and if he wasn't being the world's most obnoxious simp.

She *likes* him, despite her best efforts. I'm so invested in seeing how their friendship develops despite all the hurdles in their way.
