Vivi though-- it’d been so easy to date her that he’d done it by accident. He’d thought of it as just hanging out-- normal friend stuff-- until it had hit him all at once that with her it was almost exactly like the sappy, romantic daydreams he indulged in.

 The third run, Vivi broke her streak, but still managed ninepins. Lewis struck out this time, and once more, it was Arthur’s turn.

“Well- someone has to lose, right?” He joked, rubbing hisneck after rolling another foul. The ball came back out, but as he moved tolift it, Lewis’s larger hand splayed itself over Arthur’s.

“You’re all nerves right now, Arthur. You’re thinking toomuch about this.” Lewis’s voice was so soft it sent Arthur’s heart careening upinto his mouth. Lewis curled his hand over Arthur’s; if he hadn’t taken thebottom of bowling ball, Arthur was sure he might have dropped it.

Lewis led them over to the start of the lane. Gently, he usedhis hands to fix Athur’s stance, Arthur allowing him to position him like an posable mannequin. Once Lewis stepped back, seemingly satisfied, Arthur had achance to breathe— only for the breath to be lost in full when Lewis’s broadchest pressed against his back, hand moving over his own. His palms were damp,and he felt sure the bowling ball would slip if his fingers moved.

Lewis moved with him slowly, like a dance, towards the lane.He moved the arm with the ball and bent Arthur forward with an arm around hiswaist. Arthur was choking on air, and it was harder to catch any for his lungs whenLewis leaned over him. “These are the steps you take… yeah, just like that. Itshould help you keep steady and have more control of the ball. You just can dowhat I just did with you, but a little faster. You don’t have to but— I know ifyou stop worrying and thinking so much, you could really improve your score.You’re more than capable, Arthur.”

“R-right— yeah, I’ll do that, yeah—.” He voice came outwithout any thought, mind too focused on the warmth and solidity pressed to hisback. “I—yeah. Thanks Lewis. It should help. And—yeah.” He could have slappedhimself.

Lewis squeezed his hand. “You’ll do great.” He smiled, andArthur swallowed thickly, nearly blinded by such a brilliant sight. Arthurwasn’t sure if his words would work with him this time, so he offered a nod asLewis moved back to the table, Vivi nudging him with a foot and a cat-likegrin. Arthur turned back to the lane, swallowed, and after a breath ofrecovery, he tried to follow Lewis’s advice. It was by no means as graceful asLewis’s own steps had been, and he nearly dropped the ball, but he managed toget it down the lane, near the center. Half the pins fell from the ball, andanother three were knocked over by the falling pins.  Vivi jumped to her feet with her clapping, movingto hug him.  Lewis smiled proudly, stillclapping at the table.

“That was so good Artie! You got nearly all of them! Andthat was on the second roll! Imagine next round!” She jumped a little whileholding him, forcing him to hold her shoulders so he wouldn’t flail about.

Arthur could feel his face billowing with heat. “Ack—Vivi—need to breathe—!” She seemed to listen somewhat, no longer bouncing inplace, but she didn’t let go yet. She nuzzled into his stomach, and he let outa peal of laughter at the tickling sensation.
