I would like to show some process or writing my comic story thingy that I’ve been working on for almost four years now!

So my main story, not Out of Bounds, is called SELINA, that’s about it.. it’s about a multiversal being going on a rampage and destroying a bunch of worlds/universes. Now a group of fools gotta stop her, basically it.

I made a first version of a comic in early April 2021 (plus some paper outlines the year before). There were a lot of things wrong with this but I’m going to focus on one aspect, the main character.

The main character was a man named Edd, who had a deep, deep past with the villain Selina. He was basically her best friend in every reality and world, almost like her sidekick. My first comic version already had a problem right from the beginning. I started it with “I don’t know how long it’s been, possibly two or three years… the day all the worlds were doomed..”

BOOOORING!!

Where’s the interest in that!!! Where’s the flavor!!! World info dumps at the beginning of a story? Worst move you can make!! And I did it.

See, the problem is that Edd has SO MUCH background with Selina and literally just in general that it’s hard for someone to connect! He goes on all like “we moved on… here’s a reference no one is gonna get….. I’m gonna kill her!”

So after 3 long boring chapters of a poor fast paced comic, I made half of a chapter with some improvement. This time Edd had no inner dialogue in the beginning and there was a HOOK!!

No story infodump, plus points for Apple. Anyways I ran into other problems with this version too. Although I fixed plot holes with the villain, there was no motive still. Edd still knew too much and the other characters kept talking about him which was more difficult, he’s such a fleshed out character with so much lore, how is it possible for someone to connect with that with zero knowledge? This is a multiverse story, Edd has lived thousands of lives, there would be too much for even flashbacks to show as a main character.

Now as a side character or second main character? I could work with that. Instead of the reader struggling to understand what this dude was on and what his deal was, he was just the mysterious character who he lore. It’s like if you started a show with the antagonists point of view. If my hero academia started with Todoroki or whatever his name is. Instead it’s Izuku, pretty much a blank slate!! Name one thing cool about him before he got his power. Nothing! That’s the point!!

For me, I needed a main character who was aware of Selina but didn’t have a deep past with her, someone who would be asking questions the reader might have, someone who is easy to see yourself as while still having a complex character backstory and design!

Behold.

Venus is a space traveler who travels the galaxy with her best friend Apollo in a space plane during a space zombie apocalypse. She’s immune and is going around the universe AND the multiverse/realities to help heal people with a cure made from her blood. She barely knows about Selina, she has questions, and the reader will still have questions about her!!!

When I talk about needing a “blank slate main character” I don’t mean just an insert, or that your main character should ALWAYS have questions. This is all only how I do it, and maybe it will change! I won’t know, but currently it’s easier for me to figure out a story with a character who has no clue what’s happening!

This story is a BIG work in progress, characters are still being made, storyline, plot, backgrounds, all of it. But I will be posting here about it, including Out of Bounds stuff!! If you see an OC of mine and are confused on which story they’re in, look for tags! You may ask anything (I’ll try to not spoil too much). I hope to see you there once I’ve made progress on this creation.

The cook must be telling her some joke (probably a shitty food pun) right now by her hand covering her laughter. It's always a step forward when talking to him now, face close enough to smell the cigarettes on him.

Idiot looks like he's never talked to a woman before, red on his face and tripping over his feet. Tch he dropped the whisk, no matter how close those two get, he always acts like, not that she really seems bothered. 'haha its okay, Sanji. I'll go get a new whisk from the closet'

Zoro :'Hey'

Yemi: Hmm

Zoro: You need better taste in men

Yemi: ?! What's brought this on?

Zoro: Haha nothing, you two better not fuck in the kitchen

following  the  festival  ,  dylan's  normal  jovial  mood  seemed  dampened  by  the  shadows  that  seemed  to  overcast  her  ,  all  thanks  to  a  certain  greyson  matthews  ,  the  bane  of  her  life  .          (  no  less  than  she  was  his  )      .  it  was  unusual  for  her  to  exhibit  emotions  like  this  ,  turning  back  to  glance  at  yemi  who  was  seated  behind  her  ,  somewhat  oblivious  to  the  intertwined  nature  of  all  their  friendships  ,  or  whatever  they  were  ,  with  each  other  .  she  knew  that  yemi  was  close  with  jack  but  she  also  knew  jack  was  jack  ,  that  his  sexual  exploits  or  reckless  behaviours  were  no  mystery  ,  the  sham  of  their  relationship  not  one  of  new  yorks  pr  fakeries  but  more  that  neither  could  be  bothered  to  seek  some  real  commitment  in  the  world  .  either  way  ,  her  sadness  might  have  seemed  attributed  to  her  rogue  boyfriend  despite  that  never  upsetting  her  before  .  "  yemi  ,  do  you  ever  wonder  if  there's  eomthing  like  ,  deep  down  …  that  even  american  style  chilli  cheese  fries  can't  solve  ?  "

yemis really special to me, heres some art ive received from other people as well as art ive made myself

yemi is very inspired by patricia taxxon, and a lot of my characters are inspired by real people, usually people that have had an impact on my life

i feel like little rocket wouldve loved to see animal people in media, i was a cat as a kid and even now in my teen years i consider myself somewhat a dog. yemi is like me, she doesnt label her animal relation as therian/furry/similar and i like that. it isnt that she doesnt understand her identity, because she does, shes a dog, but she choses not to use any sort of label.

i really like when media shows us two characters that have the same identity, but go about it in different ways. i recognize that there are so many different ways to be nonhuman, and i think its awesome and should be celebrated, so i also have scruffy.

like yemi, scruffy is also nonhuman! she identifies as a zombie, purely for fun. yemis identity is sort of a trauma response, in a way? her dog identity is very personal to her. scruffy, on the other hand, is a zombie purely for fun. she was bitten, but she survived and it wasnt a big deal, so her identity isnt linked to any kind of traumatic event. as a trans kid i can definitely imagine scruffy having fun playing around with the way that she expresses herself, and i definitely think that her zombism is part of that.

yemi is very in-your-face about her being a dog in a human body, and wants to be treated a certain way to make others reinforce it for her. scruffy just likes to dress up as a zombie, and yells at you if you call her a human! besides that i dont think scruffy does anything to be more like a zombie... like, she doesnt act violent or stay away from people

scruffy is a character ive only been thinking about recently, im still working out how i want her to work into the story, so some of this might change by the time she enters the writing

Okay, I’ve seen too much of this about Yemi in Colorado Springs and it needs to stop.  It needs to stop RIGHT NOW.  Yes he won, and that’s a good thing only because “good” in this sentence is serving as the antonym to “completely off the walls complete and total evil.”  He won mainly because people like me, people hovering right around the actual middle of the political spectrum, voted for him because *he* was the most liberal candidate and best option available.  That’s it.  And we’re not talking Biden or Hillary to Bernie or Warren, either.  This was me voting for Mitt Romney because my other option was Stalin.��

Keep in mind that Yemi is not a democrat.  He is an independent and our ballots in this city do not have party affiliation for local elections.  If you put “Democratic Party” under Trump’s name on a ballot, this city would not vote for him, probably at a 2-1 rate. 

Where does he stand on progressive issues?  He is 100% for complete and total anti-choice.  He is completely and totally opposed to marijuana and hemp and those products will not be for sale in this city during his term.  He is opposed to implementing the first responder programs that have had enormous success in the Denver metro area where social workers and the like are used instead of police in full tactical gear.  He is in favor of the voucher program where public funds for schools can go to private schools.  He is for criminal enforcement of homelessness and vagrancy and opposed to funding social programs that would further assist those in need who benefit from those programs.  He is pro-business, anti-labor and aside from being black, really doesn’t have much planned to do things for marginalized or at-risk minorities, such as LGBTQ citizens. 

The takeaway here, and this is the absolute nicest way I can put it, is that this election was a “win” only in the fact that this district is a toilet, full of people with horrible, awful, and deplorable opinions and attitudes, and for once, for the first time in my adult life, we actually didn’t choose the biggest piece of shit available to us.

She wears a hat and veil to cover her face as he looks upon her face with disgust yet her face is the one thing he can't insult. She does not call him father. She is afraid to touch even the cloth on his body.
