spent half the day researching scorbutic nostalgia and now that my brain is thoroughly melted, i cannot stop thinking about what this means for jopson's death.

the vivid hallucinations produced by scurvy come from an "over-stimulated imagination focused on images of food and home, capable of inducing fits of ecstatic pleasure and dismay." in this guy's book too he discusses the case of ralph clark, who had erotic fantasies of his wife while suffering from scurvy—particularly so alongside the more typical fantasies of food. the "ecstatic pleasure" apparently seem to be capable of taking on nearly any form. the author lamb also suggests that the nostalgia takes form "not as a yearning for the reality of home or land, but as an obsessive engagement with an experience that is present but accessible only through the imagination."

and when applied to jopson, this "obsessive engagement" is imagined in the form of crozier. the food is there—but he rejects it, physically pushes it away, as he crawls toward crozier. and it fits with the context of the scene too, because at this point in time, crozier has finally become "accessible only through his imagination" since he believes crozier is leaving him behind and betraying him.

so this scorbutic nostalgia jopson suffers is manifesting before him not as a fantasy of food or health or sex or home or anything—it's crozier.

which of course you can therefore draw even more deranged conclusions from existing motifs and themes. if cannibalism is the ultimate form of intimacy, then crozier can become the fixation of jopson's scorbutic lust. if erotic fantasies are an acceptable obsessive engagement, then the consumption of him is erotic in its own right. he refuses the food because crozier is the thing he needs to stay alive. he is food. he crawls across the shale toward crozier because crozier is the object of his ecstatic pleasure.

to be fair it's based in an aside by kate's half-nephew who might not have been aware of her second kid (unlikely considering him and gordy are besties but hey who knows) that places the potential span of time from 2011 to 2014, when the line in death in heaven about kate being a divorcee is canonized. and of course doctor who canon is more malleable than playdough, so all of it can be taken with grains of salt but still!

i love stories that have kate's second kid being a young adult, i think it's fun (and i've done it all the time) but now i want to see a 2024 return to power kate trying to rebuild her relationship with an at most 13 year old at youngest 10 year old who hasn't seen her for around 6 years. like her grappling with her own terrible relationship with her parents while trying not to do the same to this kid who already probably resents her a little bit for up and abandoning them

Hey y'all. Minor update

So I went to my new gi doc and she is really nice and sweet. I told her everything and turns out the gerd pills I have rn are the strongest they have and it's the stuff they give full grown adults with stomach ulcers??? I told her it doesn't work at all anymore (and neither does my nausea pill) and she said that that's pretty concerning. Along with the fact that (she said) gerd is most common in overweight, older adults and i'm an underweight 18 year old girl. so.

But I haven't eaten a proper meal since Thanksgiving and I've been basically surviving on granola bars (and OTC antacids which don't do shit lmao) bc for some reason it's the only thing I can keep down almost entirely. I usually eat about two a day and that's pretty much it bc my stomach doesn't seem to able to take more than that. If I try to eat anything more or anything different I'll get to the brink of vomiting for hours, if not the entire day. Like one bite can trigger it.

So my doc was like "well that's not fuckin good! that's concerning as hell!" so I have a scheduled upper endoscopy on Thursday morning and y'all have absolutely NO clue how fucking ecstatic i am for it. Like it's goddamn christmas day. Istg Thursday is the day that's keeping me going rn

Just finished the book last night and omg wow. Sir Richard was such a jerk (putting it very mildly)! I was seriously in shock and kinda disgusted that he was such a bad man 'cause like I always thought he was a very kind man in the movie so I had to mentally sit down. (Yes I'm aware the book and the movie are different but still.)

He definitely manipulated Cinderella into telling him Lady Tremaine was leaving since I think she genuinely cared about her stepmother and stepsisters. Poor thing had tears in her eyes. Also like tiny Cinderella kinda being a little turd for a bit threw me off, but then I thought "well she's a kid, but still, sweetie why?" and just moved on.

ALSO LIKE THE ODD SISTERS PLUS CIRCE (I love her T-T) POPPING IN AT THE BALL??? HELLO??? AND THE TRIO COMING IN BEFORE THAT??? (And me and my dusty memory of the series almost forgot who Nanny was. 🥲Irony.) I have complicated thoughts on the Fairy Godmother but that's another "book vs movie" thing. Anyway I seriously felt for Tremaine when she asked for the Fairy Godmother's help only to be denied it, even if she did mistreat Cinderella.

Oh and don't even get me started about how Sir Richard treated Lady Tremaine and her daughters because I was SO upset how he gradually began to belittle and mistreat them. Like it was literally unfair. Also like she was still evil even though technically she was a victim of circumstance and abuse BUT STILL. I seriously felt bad for them. (Meanwhile tiny Cinderella's doing damage control in any way she can. T-T)

On a related note, both Sir Richard and Lady Tremaine were still chained down by the memory of their deceased marital partners, and it affected them differently to a certain degree. Nonetheless both of them did cruel things, stepsisters included. I kinda don't wanna put Cinderella in the same slot (as much as I love her), but her very first interactions with her stepfamily was kinda unintentionally rude—even if she was likely still recovering from losing her mother. I do, however, think that her father did manipulate her in some way, as mentioned previously. But she did get along with them later.

Either way, everyone had a role in the mistreatment of one another, however big or small, intentional or not. I can understand why they mistreated each other, but that doesn't mean I'm condoning it. Except Sir Richard. I felt real betrayed with how differently he acted between meeting Lady Tremaine and when they got to the Many Kingdoms. He can just take a long walk off a short pier (sorry Cinderella but your dad's not the greatest T-T).
