And although the gun in the game was designed after the 1866 model (which was Winchesters first ever gun) the 1873 model was considered to be "the gun that won the West" as it was a favorite not only among the cowboys but also the Indians

Before decimalisation, British money was made up of pounds, shillings, and pence as follows:

1 pound = 20 shillings

1 shilling = 12 pence

Logically, it follows that you'd have 240 pence to a pound. The symbol for a penny was a “d” (for the Latin denarius), and for a shilling, it was “s” (the Latin solidus). The solidus and denarius were Roman coins, and of course the £ comes from libra. The Romans left more than roads 🙂

Historically, pounds came in either paper bills called notes or a quid, or gold coins called sovereigns. Granted, this was a pretty substantial sum of money, so it's not something an average person would be carrying around until the fairly recent past.

It would be pretty simple if it was just pounds, shillings, and pence, but that would be too easy.

1 farthing = 1/4 penny

2 farthings = 1 halfpenny (pronounced more like “haypenny”)

2 halfpence = 1 penny (or a ‘copper')

2 pence = 1 tuppence or a half-groat

3 pence = 1 thruppence

And what about guineas? You've probably heard someone talk about guineas at some point, and that's something a little different. A guinea was a gold coin worth 1 pound, 1 shilling. Often referred to as a “yellowboy”, they were typically used for more professional transactions (such as to pay a barrister or artist). That extra shilling made it somehow more gentlemanly.

One more random old money thing – if you watched the British TV series Goodnight Sweetheart, you'll remember there were a lot of mentions of “white fivers”. They're a particularly interesting note because they were first issued in 1793 when they made the first £5 note. They remained in circulation with relatively few changes until 1956. Unlike modern fivers, they were printed on white paper with blank ink, roughly half the size of a modern A4 page.

That’s right, I’m still counting.

They found you last time and I won’t let that happen again I promise, I promise, I promise. I didn’t know how to write to you again after the incident. My thoughts, my words, my emotions were torn to shreds in front of my eyes. There was so much I needed to remember to feel human. It was all there. Everything they took. But they can’t let me remember how to feel anything anymore-it would ruin 099.

I don’t know why I continue to put myself at risk now when I have such little left when I’m running so low. I couldn’t tell you why I still write-they could easily take that away from me any day now again.

They call me mikado, experiment 099. That’s all I know about who I am. It’s printed on my neck. I wasn’t supposed to see it but the ink left an imprint on my sheet the night it happened.

“Experiment  099; the slow retraction of human emotion.”

I did not know what that meant then.

I try and remember who I really was, but I only see shadows form in the back of my mind trying to put together some semblance of who I was before 1767. It’s been almost five years now and I still can’t remember. I don’t know what I look like, how would I know what you I look like, who am I?

They haven’t been very good to me lately they take more and more- faster with each one now. I’ve heard the whispers behind the wall day in and day out. Little clips to try and find clues or an answer.

“Are you sure we are ready to take that, it could end the experiment.”

That was the last thing I heard. Something big is coming and I wish I could say I was terrified but that was the last emotion they took away from me. I don’t have many left. I am not ready for the day where they take the rest of me, but I know it grows near.
