A wolf spider friend! He came out to say hello after christmas! He sat very calmly on my hand for pictures, and even modeled for my relatives for a quick spider anatomy lesson.

He's so handsome. Excellent yegs. Fantastic peets. Sweetest face.

Afterwards, I showed him the hall closet where he could hang out in (if he wanted) where he could enjoy the indoor warmth but still be safe from cats. (There's a gap under the door so he can come out and say hi again :3)

What a perfect man! I love his Santa hat. He is, however, not a wolf spider. He's a very lovely funnel weaver in the family Agelenidae. Don't ask me beyond that, though, there are so many and they all look so similar.

I love it when humans are able to have a conversation with an animal without words

Especially when it's not an animal you know well; you're strangers but you still understand each other.

This one time when it was dark outside I was walking fast to go put the garbage in the community bin because it was a bit chilly and this black kitty was hurrying wherever it was going and we both startled each other.

We both had "Oh! I'm startled!" tense body language and we stared at each other warily for a few seconds. After a couple of blinks my brain finally caught up to the fact that what had startled me was just a kitty.

The next thing I noticed was that it hadn't run away; it was poised to run if threatened but waiting for my next move. I genuinely think it understood from my own body language that I had been just as surprised as it was.

So I relaxed my body, slowly put down the bag in my hands, and slooowly lowered myself to the ground to make myself smaller and less intimidating, making my moves slow but purposeful.

I didn't reach for the cat, but I turned my body toward it and just waited.

It clearly understood what I was trying to say, because the kitty itself relaxed and walked over to say hello, sniffing at the hand I offered it before rubbing its head against it to let me know it was okay to touch.

I sat there for a good five minutes petting my new friend, who enthusiastically rubbed itself against me.

After a while, we both got up and went our separate ways.

It felt kind of surreal in a magical kind of way, and every time I remember the interaction I smile.

“Frijoles Y Huevos - Pumpkin”

This is one of the neighbourhood cats that comes to our house named “Frijoles Y Huevos” which is “Beans and Eggs” in Spanish (The Owner’s Kid named her), I didn’t know this at the time so I named her “Pumpkin”. Since learning her name I realized that I can’t say her name right so I’ve continued to say “Pumpkin”, she responses to both (as well as my horrible pronunciation of “Frijoles”). She is always meowing for treats.
