Coding

I for one would never have thought that I’d be up for coding but I’ve finally accepted that its a useful skill to have, especially in this day and age. There’s no need to fear and it doesn’t always have to so complex. Funnily enough before this lecture I had watched part two of the BBC’s ‘Girls Can Code’ and had decided I needed to sign up for some classes. It focused on the lack of female entrepreneurs in the tech industry and how it wasn’t as balanced as it could be and how empowering it is to have the knowledge of data and the skill of coding. It’s definitely something I would shy away from but fortunately, even more so after Scott Grandison’s lecture it seemed much more achievable than I thought. It was rather encouraging actually and I’d very much like some, and look forward follow up sessions. To be perfectly honest with you lost of it went over my head but it was really cool to see what he could do and create. He showed us a programme called sketch from procession.org  I believe. He talked about functions, co-ordinates, variables, conditions and values. At times it seemed rather maths-y which isn’t something I’m incredibly confident on but I’m happy to embrace it and look over my GCSE notes after being out of practice for about two years. I digress, Scott then showed us the different things he could do with a camera in terms of motion capture and image processing - this was the best part of the lecture and I throughly enjoyed it. He finally left us with these words; ‘programming [gives you] complete freedom as you design how data is manipulated [and can] alter and process [it]  any way you want. It’ completely freeing.’
