Oh yeah, just realised that the Lunar New Year was this Saturday just gone. Hope everyone who celebrated had a great time!

I was actually curious about which zodiac sign I was born under and it turns out I was born in the year of the Goat.

Because, um. Of course I was.

Year of the sheep/goat/ram

Years: 1931*1943*1955*1967*1979*1991*2003*2015*2027*2039

The sheep/goat/ram is the eighth animal in the zodiac after it had worked with the rooster and the monkey to steer a raft across the water before they crossed the finish line. People born in this year are the most tender and mild of the signs, they're honest, kind, empathic, selfless, compassionate, creative, soft-spoken, elegant, and personable.

Since they're so soft they also tend to be hurt easily and are desperate to appease people due to their inferiority complex. They easily fall in love and when the relationship ends they will become despondent and inconsolable. They also tend to be gullible and can be pestered into doing something that goes against their nature.

The Chinese Zodiac

Long ago the Jade Emperor decided that there should be a way to measure time. On his birthday he told all of the animals that there would be a swimming competition and that the first twelve animals to cross the finish line would have a year of the zodiac he was creating named after them. All of the animals lined up ready to jump into the water to swim across the finish line, all but the cat and the rat who were horrible swimmers. Seeing the ox they asked if the ox would allow them to ride on his back as he swam across which the ox allowed. When they were close to the other bank the rat pushed the cat off of the ox leaving him to flail about in the water before jumping off of the ox's head and cross the finish line first earning himself the first spot in the zodiac.

Behind the rat was the ox who one the second year and then the tiger who clawed it's way out of the water before crossing the finish line. The rabbit was smarter and had found some rocks that it hopped across before using a log to reach the other end and getting the fourth spot. The dragon had stopped to create rain for some people and animals who were thirsty before spotting the rabbit on the log and giving it a push with a breath giving up the fourth spot and earning the fifth. Next the horse appeared and was about to take the sixth spot but the snake had curled around one of it's legs while it crossed and with the finish line in sight the snake uncoiled itself and stole the spot from the horse who had to take the seventh spot. Next the goat, monkey and rooster arrived on a raft, the rooster had found the raft and the goat and monkey had removed the weeds so that they could push the raft into the water.

The goat was awarded the eighth place, the monkey ninth and the rooster tenth. Next the dog arrived explaining that they had stopped to take a bath because the water had been so clean before claiming the eleventh spot. The Jade Emperor waited and waited for the next animal, about to give up on anyone taking the twelfth and last place before he heard the grunt of a boar, when he asked where they had been the boar replied that they had stopped to grab something to eat before they crossed the finish line and took the twelfth and last spot in the zodiac. About this time the cat was finally able to pull himself out of the water but by the time they got to the finish line the boar had already taken the last spot thus the cat's chance to be in the zodiac was gone and a deep anger that lingers to this day would be born.
