p11 - you could work with that. only had to successfully make one overtake and you’d be in the points. you knew lewis and his silver arrow were going to fly forward and that your real battle was with nico in 9th. you could manage that and you knew it.

gripping the steering wheel tight you waited for the lights to go out and for the race to begin. 3, 2, 1.. you slammed on the gas and took off. time to get to work.

“box, box” your engineer instructed over the radio and you let out a sigh of relief. the tyre degradation in vegas was stronger than expected and you were thankful to pick up a new set of hards. except when you came into the pit lane - you saw only one mechanic waiting for you. there was no one there. surely they should be there? “did i miss the box?” you muttered to yourself passing the alpine garage and making your way through the pit lane. nope. no box missed. your team just wasn’t there.

“are you fcking kidding me?! where was everyone?!” you screamed into the radio as you pulled out of the pit lane and reentered the race without new tyres and a whole lot of time lost.

“there was a miscommunication, y/n. please come back next lap.”

you stepped off the scale as quickly as possible snatching the paper from the fia agent and turning swiftly toward your garage. you desperately needed air and a moment alone.

practically running through the pit lane, you ignored your team who tried to call after you as you hurried toward your drivers room. you flung open the door and locked it behind you before ripping your helmet off of your head and slumping down to the ground.

putting your head in your hands, you cried. the race couldn’t have gone any worse. your mechanics weren’t ready for you to box causing you to lose over 20 seconds of time. your strategy calls after that were abysmal and you landed almost in dead last. this sort of a performance was not how you were going to gain a seat for next season and it certainly wasn’t going to stop the skeptics from trying to tear you down.

a soft knock sounded against your door and you heard an unmistakable voice, “y/n/n let me in.” you tried to wipe away some of the tears as you unlocked the door and scooted out of the way so lance could open the it. he looked down at you on the floor and frowned instantly. “oh y/n/n, come here.” he instructed holding out his hand for you. reluctantly you took it and allowed him to pull you up into his arms.

“what happened?” lance asked gently as you sobbed into his chest. you noticed that he was still very much in his race suit which meant he likely hadn’t done his media duties yet either and instead came to see you.

“everything went wrong,” you explained wiping your eyes again and leaning back to look at him. “my mechanics weren’t ready when i went to box and i lost so much time it ended my chances of being competitive and on top of that i just drove like absolute dog shit so i didn’t help myself either.”

lance wiped away a tear from your cheek, “i’m sorry y/n/n. that sucks but this isn’t the end. you have two more races - it isn’t over till it’s over.”

“i consciously know you’re right but i just… i don’t know lance - this pressure is more than i could have ever imagined.”

“i can’t pretend to understand how you’re feeling but i can tell you that no one is perfect after 4 races. you are doing the best that you can.” lance assured wiping more tears from your face as your crying slowed.

there was a forceful knock at the door, “y/n you need to get to the media pen. now.” your pr manager said sternly through the door pulling you back to reality.

lance sighed before letting you go, “alright come on. let’s get out there before people start to spread rumors about what we’re doing in here.” he laughed fixing his race suit, “and don’t get me wrong i love you but you unfortunately are not my type and also i am not a 6 foot 3 british man so im not yours either.”

you let out a laugh and lance was pleased to hear it. “yeah yeah let’s go.”

before walking out of your driver room, lance turned and said “hey y/n/n… don’t let them see you rattled - they don’t deserve it.”

“y/n/n.” george’s big blue eyes were staring into your soul and you couldn’t help but notice the way his eyes flickered to your lips quickly before moving back up. “can i tell you something?” he asked over the pounding of the music throughout the club.

you had begrudgingly agreed to go out and celebrate with george and the rest of the mercedes crew even though you had no interest in partying after the race you had. but, at the end of the day, george was one of your best friends and he deserved to be celebrated. you both were a couple drinks deep at this point and george was clearly getting loose. “of course you can georgie!”

he tucked a piece of hair behind you ear, “i um…” he paused stealing another glance at your lips. “i’ve been wanting to tell you something for like a really long time and seeing you leave your drivers room with lance made me realize i should tell you sooner rather than later.”

“what are you talking about? nothing happened with lance and i earlier! he came to check on me after the race.” you put your empty glass down on the bar next to you as you tried to comprehend what he was saying.

“regardless of what was happening it made me realize that i couldn’t keep pretending like i don’t want to be more than just friends with you.”

it felt like the wind was knocked right out of you, there was no way you heard what you thought you just heard. “george william russell - you can’t be serious.”

“i am!” george insisted incredulously, “i have fancied you since what feels like the dawn of time. since i met you on the karting track for the first time. remember? when you barreled directly into the back of my kart? you hit me because i broke too soon and then you being you - you yelled at me after the race and even while yelling you were the most beautiful girl i’d ever laid eyes on.”

“george, i don’t know what to say.”

george ran both hands through his hair. “you don’t have to say anything y/n. i just wanted you to know how i felt because i —“

before he could say anything more you stood up on your tiptoes and kissed him right there in the middle of the club.

summary: reader and jj are long distance and they plan a visit

a/n: having literal jj withdrawals also i had a dream last week that i buried my face in her stomach in the most comforting snuggle ever.

“no i promise i will be back in time to pick you up. we’re wrapping up with the local pd right now and then we’re out of here within the next two hours.” jj spoke down the phone as she leaned against the conference table they’d all been using for the last week.

“babe, it’s really not that necessary. i can always just get a cab to take me to yours.” y/n replied browsing the menu on the airport coffee shop she’d found her way to after going through security.

“absolutely not. we don’t know anything about these cab drivers. do you wanna know how many cases have started just like that?” jj frowned.

“no thank you. you know how i feel about your cases.” y/n shook her head and waved a finger in the air like jj could see her.

“yeah yeah— that’s what im saying. you’ll just have to settle for me baby.” jj shrugged.

y/n smiled softly, “you’re far from settling honey. i just don’t wanna be an inconvenience is all.”

jj scoffed with an affectionate roll of her eyes, “you’re not being an inconvenience. we haven’t been in the same state for longer than a day in four months— id be offended if i wasn’t the person you saw when you land in dc. i promise i will be there and i’ve got lots of romancing planned for you.”

“romancing? whats on the agenda?”

“wouldn’t you like to know,” jj grinned. “it’s a surprise, we’ve got four months of phone dates to make up for.”

“i love our phone dates, even the occasional skype date.” y/n grinned in thanks at the barista handing her a coffee and muffin.

“i do too, but i think ill enjoy physically having you with me a bit more.”

“it is my favorite place to be.”

“damn straight, so it’s settled. i’ll be there waiting for you. no cabs or any of that, got it?” jj spoke firmly.

“yes ma’am.” y/n confirmed.

“good,” jj grinned before turning her attention to derek who was waving her toward the door. “okay, we’re heading out now. i’ll see you in a few hours?”

“absolutely, stay safe! i love you. like a lot.” y/n smiled softly.

“well i love you more. like a lot more.” jj grinned, falling in step with morgan.

“and i love you most. like the very most.” they said in unison with a laugh before hanging up.

“chatting up the missus?” morgan asked with a chuckle.

“oh yeah, she’s on her way here for a visit.”

“that’s great jj, how long has she been out there?”

“way too long, it’s been over a month since i’ve seen her. she’s trying for a transfer closer to dc so we’re hopeful but until then we just suffer for four months at a time.” jj blew some hair out of her face before ducking into the suv to head for the jet.

y/n was one of the last of the plane, carryon bag rolling behind her. as she rolled her way through the airport she fished her phone out to call jj to figure out if she was at the airport yet or not. focusing on her cellphone, she stepped on the escalator and descended to the baggage claim and exit area. reaching the last step she looked up and was very surprised to see jj leaning against a pillar.

“oh you were serious about romancing, huh?” y/n grinned walking over to her girlfriend. jj stood at her full height with a grin on her face. she was holding a piece of paper that she’d made into a sign and a bouquet of y/n’s favorite flowers.

“i’m a woman of my word!” jj shrugged and extended the flowers toward y/n.

y/n grabbed the flowers and pulled jj as close as she could without jostling her sign too much, “here to pick up the most beautiful girl in the world, hm?”

“yep, had to turn a few ladies away. they seemed to be confused.” jj bit her lip teasingly.

“you better have turned them away!” y/n grinned pushing a finger into jj’s chest.

“of course i did, i know who im here for. and boy am i glad she’s finally here.” jj grinned leaning her forehead against y/n’s longingly.

“im glad to be here.” y/n said nuzzling their noses together.

“well can i have a kiss now, ive only been going through withdrawals for what…four months?”

y/n rolled her eyes affectionately and wrapped her arms around jj’s neck pulling her in for a very long awaited kiss. when they both finally pulled away jj grabbed the carry-on and y/n’s free hand.

“let’s get out of here, i’ve got a thing or two we’ve just got to do tonight.” jj smirked over her shoulder, eyebrows wiggling suggestively.

“oh yes, the romancing.” y/n grinned, allowing jj to pull her toward her car.

they make it far past the couch. and as y/n watched jj pull a discarded t-shirt over her head she couldn’t think of any other place she’d rather be. jj made for the kitchen for water and when she came back she gazed down at y/n lovingly.

“god, i missed you so much.” she leant down to kiss her girlfriends dewy forehead. y/n’s smile couldn’t get any sweeter. smitten was an understatement. but anytime it came to jj— she was a clingy smitten lovesick puppy.

“if you missed me as much as you claim, you’d come snuggle with me.”

“but i’ve got more romancing planned. i was going to make us a really nice dinner. and there’s a few gifts i got you. and i think we can do some more of this— in the bedroom though…” jj listed. y/n nodded along to her words attentively but pulled jj down on the couch. jj continued to list her plans and y/n continued maneuvering jj’s body into their favorite cuddle position. once jj was perfectly wedged between the back of the couch, y/n buried her head into her stomach with a content sigh. jj’s hands unconsciously came to run through y/n’s hair and the younger woman snuggled closer to her girlfriend. jj’s words trailed off as she caught sight of just how relaxed her girlfriend was.

“maybe we can do all that stuff tomorrow, im kinda enjoying holding you.”

“mhmm, sounds good babe, im enjoying being held.”

Everyone that knew a bit of StrayKids and their members knew for a fact that their second oldest hyung had a problem with heights. But, added to the issue, planes where also not really a comfortable idea for the cat owner, as mandatory as they were for his career path.

“We’re on the airport, can we go back now?” He’d joke everytime they had to travel, sometimes earning small giggles from Jisung, Hyunjin or Felix, or teasing groans from Seungmin.

They had been informed that this airplane’s rows had space for two people per row. Normally the situation would be handled by sitting one of the members next to him, and he was fine with that.

“Oh, the seat 16A can’t be used due to its condition in case of evacuation. Excuse us for the late notice, we’ll find you other seat right away.”

Fuck.

Shit.

Fuck.

He had simply nodded, looking at his only hyung with anxiousness on his eyes. Yongbok hugged his arm while Han held his hand tight.

“It’ll be ok, Minho hyung.” Jeongin tried to comfort him. He smiled weakly, wishing for the youngest to be right, but deep down, he knew it was bullshit. He felt dizzy, and he hadn’t even got on the damn plane to begin with. Chan offered to trade seats, but all truth be told, he felt like he needed to do this one on his own. He liked that the members supported him, but he didn’t want to be babied. Even if he would complain about the alleged “lack of empathy” the group had with him —always in a teasing manner— he declined the offer nicely.

He left Felix’s side once the row 16 was behind him, seating in one of the two seats in row 21, as far as he could from the window, even though he could still see the finger connected to the plane and some people coming inside it. He knew that Changbin and Seungmin weren’t far away from him. He’d be ok. Yeah. He could do this. He was Lee Know, pro idol. He had to hold back the awkward giggle that the thought gave him, and snorted lowly.

“Sorry, can I…?” You trailed off, apologetically pointing to the seat next to him. He smiled sheepishly and nodded, feeling his tongue stuck, and connected it to because of how nervous he was, letting you pass through. You sat next to him, smiled kindly and then looked down at your phone.

He stared at you for a bit, a bit jealous of how calm you looked. He was on the edge, thinking of walking out and paying for a taxi. From Australia to Korea? Nevermind. On a second thought, he would pay for a fucking submarine. Or autostop… with boats. Or swim.

At this point, he wasn’t sure if he would mind drowning too much.

“First time flying? You look kinda nervous, mate.” You joked lightly, taking one of your headphones off when you noticed his eyes on you, his fidgeting and his shaky leg.

He noticed an Australian accent rolling off your tone, and the known sound made him relax a bit.

“Oh… s-sorry… eh, no, actually. It’s just… It’s for work, but I don’t really… enjoy…flying.” He stumbled on his words, his hands traveling below his thighs. He felt them cold. And sweaty.

God, this was going to be the death of him.

“Damn. That’s tough. Sorry for you, bud.” You sighed, sharing the shittyness of his situation.

“It’s fine, I guess. You? Work related?” He never was in the mood for initiating small talk, but he desperately needed to cling onto something so he would just stop thinking about the fucking plane.

“Nah. Visited the family, going back home now.” You smiled at him, trying to comfort him a bit. “Hope they pay you well if they make you fly.” You laughed.

He giggled slighlty, and nodded. “Not to brag, but that they do. At least I have that.” You laughed at his honesty.

You presented yourself in hopes of making him feel less awkward. With a slight hesitation, you ended up adding. “Just, don’t be afraid of pulling my headphones off or anything if you need. It’s ok to be scared, mate,” you mentioned with a calm smile. “You know, my sister is terrified of heights. I know its not the same… but stilll. ‘M used to it.”

Minho looked at you as if you had fallen straight from Heaven, all for the right reasons. “…pretty name. Uh. Yeah.” He mumbled messily, to which you laughed. He smiled. “Lee Minho. Don’t tempt me too much, ‘cause I might destroy the seat in a panic attack.”

You giggled, and that lowered the burden on his shoulders a bit.

The conversation died, turning in a comfortable silence, but Minho regained conciense of his surroundings once the plane started working, the vibration of the motors all through the plane. He started shaking his leg anxiously, picking the skin between his fingers. Unbeknownst to him, his breathing pace quickened by minutes. He could hear his heartbeat right on his ears.

Fuck, he couldn’t do this.

He couldn’t-

“Hey, Minho, you there?”

Your soft tone of voice brought him back for a second. You noticed how he eyed to the window behind you, so you closed it. You took out of your pocket your headphones, and bended down to your backpack just to take other headphones and an adapter, plugged it to your phone and gestured to him.

“Care to miss the evacuating instructions? If it makes you feel any better, I know them by heart. Pinky promise.”

He smiled lightly, a tad embarassed, still, a small chuckle left his lips as he took the headphones.

“You choose or I choose?”

He seemed troubled, a bit lightheaded, subconciously focusing more on the plane than anything else.

“We’ll take turns, then.” You smiled.

You played music by presing the shuffle button on your liked songs, skipping until you’d find something to listen to. Bruno Mars came along, and you let it be. It was a safe choice, right? Who doesn’t like Bruno Mars?

When Finesse started playing on his headphones, Minho failed holding back a smile. The known melody caressed his mind, the shaking now turned to tapping to the rythm. You smiled and let him be, feeling better now that your flightmate didn’t look like he wanted to die before departure, and happy that you had been able to help.

You left your phone on your leg, clinging your arm on the the armrest in between both of you. He tried to get comfortable, just to find your hand in the same place as his. He quickly apologized, pink tinting his cheeks, and you brushed it off with a sympathetic smile.

But then, the airplane started going faster, and faster, and the music wasn’t able to cover the sound that the air made when crashing to the metal walls of the aircraft. Minho felt on the edge of a heart attack, and in a desperate cry to just calm down he gripped your wrist, to which you turned your arm to hold his hand properly, caressing his palm with your thumb. It reminded him of what Yongbok used to do, and the familiar thougth calmed his dizzy, crowded mind for a few seconds.

“Hey champ, we’re on air.”

Again, your voice made him open his eyes, ones he didn’t realise he had closed, and suddenly, he recognised the new melody that was playing for both of you.

“…Wonder Girls?” He whispered, staring deeply into your eyes.

You blinked repeatedly, confused, then smiled. “Oh, yeah. You don’t like it? You can change the music if you want…”

“No…! It’s… it’s ok.”

Minho found himself forgetting about flying, focused on the music, without being able to notice his small smile and pink colored cheeks nor how he was humming to the melody.

Half of the flight had passed, which meant 5 hours had passed and other 5 were left. Minho had fallen asleep, one of the headphones hanging low on his neck, the other one threatening to fall down.

Turbulence shook the aircraft slightly, enough for the sleeping beauty to move, head falling to your shoulder. You tensed up, blushed, then relaxed and leaned into him, effort settled on trying to find a position that wouldn’t mean infinite neck pain the moment he would wake up.

“Don’t worry too much. He owes you a big one, but he’s a heavy sleeper. Plane could fall down and he wouldn’t notice.” Another strong-looking young man with black, slightly-curled hair joked. He was waiting in line for the bathroom. He was strangely wearing a black rain hat, inside of the plane. You thought of it as extravagant, but brushed it off.

“Oh, you know him?” You questioned with a small smile.

He giggled, and you knew he was smiling underneath his black mask because of the creases close to his eyes. “You could say that, yeah,” he teased. “We work together.”

“That makes me feel better. He seemed quite nervous before.”

“I hope he isn’t giving you any trouble…” he mentioned with an awkward tone.

“Not at all, mate! Don’t sweat, he’s really kind. Wish my coworkers were this nice.”

He blinked, eyes big, surprise pampered all over the features you could see. “Kind?”

“Yeah…?” You answered with doubt in your tone.

“No… it’s just that, mind you, but no one really describes Minho hyung as kind. Not by a first impression, really... no, but he is, yeah. ‘M glad you noticed, otherwise the trip could be very long.”

You giggled lowly, still slightly confused but happy that at least Minho wasn’t traveling completely on his own.

“Oh, sorry. Seo Changbin.” He tilted his hat on your direction, and you snorted while presenting yourself.

“G’day, mate.” You winked.

“See ya, Aussie.” He teased.

You’d kept on reading in your phone, Minho snuggling into you from time to time which made your cheeks pink as you laughed as lowly as you could, because sleeping when afraid of flying was really one of the best medicines, but suddenly noticed the belt sign turning on. Windows still fully blue, you sighed at the thought of turbulence coming. So you wouldn’t need to move Minho, you clung your feet to your backpack and stuffed everything inside of it, leaving only your small blanket and phone outside, alongside with the pair of headphones. You’d taken Minho’s a while ago, as they had fallen onto his lap.

The armrest was pushed back so Minho could lay on your shoulder better, and you doubted if you should lower it down. You definetely didn’t want to wake him up, that’s for sure. The plane started shaking, enough for anyone to notice, but you focused on putting Minho’s belt on, finally decided on lowering the armrest, setting his arm first and then you made yours link to his as smoothly as you could, holding hands.

You noticed that as the airplane trembled, Minho was waking up.

“Minho, you up?” You whispered, your warm breath on his neck giving him chills.

He tensed up, squeezing your hand as soon as he noticed his surroundings shaking. He suddenly felt small, anxious and in total danger.

“Minho, can you hear me? If you feel like you can’t answer, nod.”

He nodded.

“I want you to concentrate on my voice, can you do that?”

His grip on your hand got tighter as the aircraft kept shaking, but he nodded.

“Do you know how airplanes fight off turbulences?”

“N-no…” he mumbled.

“Basically, the usual protocol is to avoid them.” You started speaking softly into his ear, barely a murmur, tracing shapes with your fingers on the back of his hands and the part of his forearms that could be seen because of the sleeves of his shirt, rolled up just below his elbows.

“There are two ways of dealing with them.” You looked at him, noticing how his eyes were fixiated on the movements your hand made, making you move your gaze to the bracelet he was wearing. “One, they are prepared for it and they avoid it.”

“What if they aren’t prepared?” He mumbled, fear showing through his weak tone. You smiled, because he was trying to pay attention to you and at least a bit less to the airplane.

“Then the pilot goes above or below it, that’s why you feel like the plane is going up or down really fast. But it’s a controlled move.” You noted. “You’re not in danger, Minho.”

He suddenly nuzzled into your neck, trying to hold back tears. He felt safer, but still, his heartbeat kept running like crazy, beating so loud that he could hear it in his ears. Breathing turned like a complicated task as he struggled to keep calm.

“Follow my breathing, Minho. I need you to do that, ok?”

You started breathing in and out at a really slow pace, noticing him following you despite trembling from crying silently into the crook of your neck. A small voice in your head whispered a question, and for a moment you agreeded, because why wasn’t this a bit awkward? Why were you feeling all flustered and worried over someone you met less than 10 hours ago?

The turbulence went away, and the plane stopped shaking.

You moved the hand that was free, the other still holding Minho’s, and you softly stroked his hair. He moved his head back from you a bit, just enough for you to notice the tears on his cheeks. You quickly wiped them away and smiled.

“It’s ok, Minho. It’s over.”

He blushed and nodded, eyes glossy as he leaned back on his seat, his cold hand never leaving your warm one, trying to calm himself. Thank God you were there.

“I’m-“

“Don’t you dare apologize,” you threatened in a teasing manner. “You’re ok. It’s no big deal, really.”

He felt heat rush to his face as a smile plastered in your features. He closed his eyes, flustered, and eventually fell asleep again.

The plane landed while he was sleep. You wondered how much could a person sleep, because out of the ten hours of flight, he slept for almost 6 of them, when you could only manage to rest for 3.

“Hey, sleeping beauty, you made it.” He looked at you, as if something was different, as you walked through his legs to go get your suitcase from the compartment above.

“I didn’t wake up for landing?” He asked softly, voice a bit raspy.

“Nope. Slept through it like a lucky motherfucker,” you laughed.

He started tiding up his stuff in his backpack and thanked when you gave him his own luggage.

“It was a pleasure to meet ya. I’ll see ya again. G’day!”

Minho froze as you walked away. He felt a little sting on his chest, one he didn’t quite understand as he shook his head sideways as joined the rest of the group outside.

But then, a femenine voice called.

“Chris!”

He recognized that voice. That voice that had lulled him to sleep, to a state of calmness that he had never achieved before in an airplane.

“Mate!”

You and Chris shook hands vigorously, patting each other’s backs.

After all, how could you forget your co-star in that tv add from years ago? Your mom still had contact with his mom —as weird as it can sound— and still made funny remarks about it; a long-lasting joke in the family by now.

“I knew your name sounded familiar!” You smiled to Changbin, starting some sort of small talk as the fellow Aussie presented each member.

Yeah. Minho scoffed.

Luck? Most likely?

Unbelievable.

Of course you knew Chan. Everyone knew Chan, for fuck’s sake. He directed himself to Han and Jeongin, not thinking about the fuzzy feeling on his hands when he eyed to yours, as if wanting to hold them again.

What the fuck? What was going on with him?

Their security came by pretty fast, allowing you to tag along with them as it was too early in the morning for anyone to really care. The members walked in front of you, who was ‘caching up’ with Chan.

“So? What do you think?” Chan asked in the strongest accent he could, as a way of making it harder for the rest to understand.

“He’s brave. And kind. I’m surprised he didn’t kick me for being too nosy or touchy.” He gave you a look as he wiggled his eyebrows, and you pushed him teasingly as he giggled. “Shut up, you cunt. You’re lucky I was on the plane.”

“Thanks, mate. I owe you one.” He mentioned sincerely. “And Minho does, too.” He teased, winking at you.

Because it wasn’t mere coincidence the fact that you were so nice to Minho, helping him out. You’d recognised the name, and his face looked thoroughly familiar. As soon as the idol fell asleep you texted your friend, hoping he was using the airplane’s wifi. He replied asking for a favour, for you to take care of the pretty man till landing, because Chris was quite worried about him.

You walked with them until they reached the cars prepared for the group. And when he was just about to run the whole hallway to ask you to wait, begging for someone, anyone, to do something about how the fuck was anything of this even possible or real, you turned and hugged Chan, waving goodbye to the members from outside the car.

Minho and you locked gazes, and you quickly pointed to your left wrist with your cheeks turning pink, leaving the parking and walking towards your own vehicle.

He didn’t understand, but remained looking to your figure from the distance and how it became smaller and smaller while they were exiting the airport.

“What’s that, hyung?”

He turned around to face Jeongin, who was chewing some strawberry gum that the members were passing around for regulating the pressure after the flight, and looked to where he was pointing: his left wrist.

Tied to his black bracelet, the one you’d been fidgeting with, there was a small, light blue ribbon. Something clicked on his head as he now knew what was different: your hair was resting on your shoulders when he woke up. He untied it with utter care on his movements, causing a slight surprise on Jeongin, and Hyunjin —as we all know, curiosity killed the dumpling.

Since when did their hyung took so much care in something so small?

“Well? What is it?” Hyunjin asked.

Minho held back a smile as he read what was scribbled on the small fabric.

‘Think my name’s pretty? I think you’ll like this better.’

Followed by… a phone number.

He smiled, flustered. He didn’t like it.

He loved it.

Day 02: Cooking

It's been a long time since I had a meal with my family. Due to my busy studies, I had no time to visit our house in Bloomshore District. So anytime I had spare time like this, I hoped for a nice meal with my family. However, I was the only one that returned. Gran informed me that Caleb was still on duty in Skyhaven. I attempted to conceal the despair on my face. It had been so long since we last saw each other. And a family meal without him would not be as cozy.

After some thought, but still unsure what to make, I rummaged through the old cookbook in the kitchen. The pages included all of the dishes that I adored. Furthermore, it appeared that every page included Caleb's notes: Pip-squeak likes this food a touch sweeter; Pip-squeak dislikes this dish too sour; The first time Pip-squeak tried this dish, she ate three bowls of rice in a row... Occasionally, there would be my own notes, such as: This is Caleb's favorite type of apple soda... Looking at each of those goofy sentences, I couldn't help but smile, knowing in my heart what I should prepare today.

After gathering all the supplies, I began cooking. Since I had been away from home for so long, I was perplexed to notice the spice jars were no longer in the spots I was used to seeing them. While I was on my tiptoes looking for the salt shaker in the upper cupboard, a big hand emerged and assisted me in taking it down.

At the same time, I felt a familiar warmth envelop me from behind. Turning around, I caught Caleb's gaze down at me.

"Caleb? You're back?"

My voice couldn’t hide the joy. Caleb handed me the salt shaker but did not move an inch from his stance.

“Yeah. I’m back.”

“Great. Let me fetch some more food—Eh!”

Caleb instantly placed one hand on the counter next to me as I was ready to approach the fridge. His entire body appeared to be coated against mine, his breath gently blowing past my ear, making my cheeks blush in comparison to the sunset that was enveloping the kitchen outside. I caught his voice, deep, whispering:

“I haven't heard you say that you miss me yet, pip-squeak.”

I nudged Caleb in the stomach with my elbow and laughed, “Who misses you? Just get out of the way.”

But what I wanted him to know was: I miss you so much! Thanks for coming home to me!

Caleb rolled up his sleeves to help me with dinner. He was in charge of the main dish while I prepared the soup. Seeing me chopping vegetables on the cutting board, he couldn’t help but laugh:

“Do the vegetables have a grudge against you, pip-squeak?”

I paused and glanced up at him.

“It’s only vegetables, not Wanderers. Don’t chop them so eagerly.”

Caleb gently patted my head. A smile spread on my lips. It had been a long time since I’d felt this way, to be able to cook with him.

The kitchen, once so spacious, felt tiny with two adults standing there. I almost bumped into Caleb a few times, and no matter how hard I tried, my shoulder still brushed against his when we stood together at the stove.

“You’re too big!” I nudged him. He merely chuckled, then used his hand to rub some vinegar on my face. “Caleb! You did it again!”

I scowled, hurriedly wiped the vinegar from my face, and gave him an angry yet loving look. After Caleb finished mixing the sweet and sour sauce for the pork ribs, he scooped up a tiny bit and presented it to me.

"Why don't you have a taste first?"

Instead of sampling the sauce on the spoon, I decided to go for this hand and nibbled it delicately.

“Ouch!” Caleb made an extremely pathetic expression.

“I just took my revenge!” I responded and then tried the sauce. The familiar sweet and sour taste made my stomach start to growl. “Mmm, that’s good.”

Caleb stared at me and smiled curiously. He immediately leaned in quite close to my face. With his thumb out, he hastily wiped away some of the sauce that had mistakenly gotten on the corner of my mouth.

"You're an adult now but you still eat like a child."

He teased me again. I pursed my lips. Before I could even respond, he brought his thumb to his mouth, tasting the sweet and sour sauce to my surprise.

The heat from the soup on the stove made me feel exposed. Blushing, I hastily turned aside.

Caleb, wouldn't it be nice to just be able to cook with each other every single day?

The night was quiet around the Monaco apartment as Lando relaxed in his studio, with nothing but the sound of Max’s banter and the steady click of his controller to break the silence. He’d just returned from the madness of the Dutch Grand Prix, and though he was still on a high from his victory, part of him longed for some peace and the comfort of familiar faces, even if it was through a Twitch stream.

But unbeknownst to him, his world was about to get flipped upside down in the best way possible.

As he readied himself for another round, the front door of the apartment creaked open quietly. Amelie had been planning this surprise for weeks—she knew exactly when Lando would be off his post-race high, and she’d managed to get her hands on the keys to his place in Monaco. She didn’t want to waste any time, not after all the teasing, flirty messages they’d exchanged over FaceTime after the Dutch GP. She’d been waiting for the right moment to see him in person.

With a soft grin, Amelie tiptoed inside, her heart racing with excitement. She’d kept the plan a secret, and now it was time to make her grand entrance. She walked down the hallway and into the studio, her eyes immediately locking onto Lando, his face lit up by the glow of the screen. He was fully absorbed in the game, completely unaware of her presence. Max’s voice echoed from the speakers, his banter about the race keeping Lando entertained, but that wasn’t the only thing that kept his focus.

Amelie couldn’t help but smirk as she approached him from behind. Slowly, she wrapped her arms around him, her hands sliding across his chest, pulling him into a tight hug. Lando froze for a moment, his controller falling from his hands, and he stiffened—then he slowly turned his head, his mouth falling open in surprise.

—Amelie?— he said, his voice filled with disbelief, followed by a laugh. —What the hell are you doing here?—

Amelie’s lips curled into a mischievous smile as she leaned in, resting her chin on his shoulder. She could feel the tension in his body slowly melt away, replaced with the warmth of her embrace.

—Surprise, baby,— she whispered, her breath hot against his ear. —I couldn’t stay away any longer. You’ve been teasing me with those flirty texts, and I had to see you... in person.—

Lando's eyes went wide, and for a split second, he forgot where he was. His heart raced, a mix of excitement and pure joy washing over him. It wasn’t just the surprise of seeing her— it was the fact that she had come all this way, just to be with him.

—Are you... serious?— he asked, his voice thick with disbelief. —I... I didn’t know you were coming.—

Amelie giggled, her fingers lightly tracing the back of his neck.

—Yeah, well, I like keeping you on your toes. And I know how much you love being surprised—especially when it’s me.

Max’s voice echoed through the speakers, oblivious to what was going on.

—Oi, Lando, you there?— Max called through the headset. —We’re waiting for your trash talk, mate. You’ve been too quiet. You okay?—

Lando, still in shock, gave a quick glance at Amelie before grabbing the headset.

—Yeah, I’m good, just... uhm... getting distracted by some... amazing company, mate. Don’t worry about me, though. You’re good to go.—

Amelie, catching the playful tone in his voice, grinned even wider.

—What’s the matter, Norris?— she teased, her voice dripping with flirtation. —Can’t handle a little distraction?—

—Nah, it’s just... hard to focus when you’ve got the most beautiful woman in the world right in front of you.—

Amelie blushed, but she wasn’t about to let him have the last word.

—Is that so? Well, if you want me to keep distracting you... I can make it more interesting, you know.—

Lando’s eyebrows shot up, the playful banter between them always sparking a fire he couldn’t resist.

—Oh, really?— he said, his voice low and teasing. —You’re gonna make it interesting, huh?—

Amelie laughed softly and playfully pulled away from him, her fingers grazing his shoulder as she walked to the side of the room, casually glancing at the Twitch stream.

—Maybe later, Norris, I’ve got other plans for you. For now, though, I’m just gonna watch you squirm.—

Max, still oblivious, called out again, clearly confused by the sudden change in Lando’s mood.

—Lando, mate, what’s going on? You okay? You’re not acting like yourself.—

Lando couldn’t help but laugh, shaking his head as he turned his chair to face Amelie, who was now casually leaning against the desk, arms folded, a devilish grin on her face.

—I’m fine, Max, just... uh... distracted by something way better than your gameplay.—

Max was quiet for a moment before he chuckled.

—Alright, alright, I get it, mate. Don’t let us stop you, then.—

Lando didn’t waste another second, he quickly clicked off the stream.

—Okay, now, where were we?— he said, standing up and walking toward Amelie, a cocky grin on his face.

Amelie’s heart skipped a beat as Lando closed the distance between them. She wasn’t expecting this... but she wasn’t about to back down either.

—What do you think, huh? You’ve got me here. I’m all yours tonight.—

Lando’s eyes darkened with intensity as he stepped closer to her. He placed a hand on her waist, pulling her toward him with a slow, deliberate motion.

—You know I’ve been thinking about you all night. You’ve got me going crazy, Amelie.—

She smiled, tilting her head, enjoying every second of the playful tension building between them.

—Oh, really?— she whispered, her lips brushing against his ear. —Then show me just how crazy I make you.—

Lando’s breath hitched, his hand moving to her neck as he kissed her deeply, losing himself in the sensation of her touch. They’d spent so much time teasing and flirting over the phone, it was finally time to let that tension explode.

Amelie responded eagerly, her hands sliding under his shirt, feeling the heat of his skin beneath her fingertips. She was done with the games, done with the waiting.

As they pulled back for a moment, both of them panting, Lando’s eyes were filled with raw desire.

—Are you sure you want to do this?— he asked, his voice husky with emotion.

Amelie nodded, her hands tugging at his shirt, guiding him toward the bedroom.

—Oh, I’m sure, Lando. I’m more than sure.—

The night passed in a blur of heated moments, the teasing, the laughs, and everything in between. They were finally together, without distance, without barriers—just two people, in love, ready to explore every inch of each other’s world.
