Blind Date || johnny

childhood friend!johnny x fem!reader • fluff, tiny angst, friends to strangers to lovers, mention of cheating (not between the characters) • Your best friend sets you up on a blind date, but when the date doesn’t show up, Johnny swoops in to the rescue!

“I already told you no.”

“C’mon, please? It’s just one date!”

“Yeah, you said that last month too. And a couple weeks before that. I’m done meeting strangers.”

Kara, your best friend, pouts, flopping backward onto your bed, so she’s looking straight up at you. Luckily you moved your laptop in time or she would’ve fallen on it.

“Please? I swear this’ll be the last one. Hyuck vouched for him! He’s really nice and super sweet. And he’s not even anyone’s reject as far as I know.”

You quirked an eyebrow up, eyes still focused on the email you’re composing on your screen. “Obviously he is, or he wouldn’t be single. And like I’m gonna trust your boyfriend’s taste in men?”

“Going through a breakup and being rejected on a first date are not the same thing.” She sits up, folding her legs underneath herself so she’s crisscrossed. A hand comes to rest on your knee, finally dragging your eyes away from your work. For the first time, you notice how concerned your best friend looks. Concerned and worried for you, but you honestly don’t know why. “YN, it’s been so long since you broke up with… him. You keep refusing to put yourself out there and let someone love you. And refusing to let yourself fall in love again.” She patted your knee gently before standing from your bed, headed toward the door. “Just one last date, and if it doesn’t work out, I’ll never set you up again.”

The date is set for a Saturday, and Kara happily helps you pick out the perfect outfit and decide on makeup. She drops you off at the restaurant and promises to pick you up if you need it. You’d agreed to meet him at the bar, and now you’re wondering why you didn’t push her for more info on the guy. You were going into this practically blind, while he knew your name, face, and occupation. But Kara trusted him, so you just had to trust too.

No one stood out at the bar, no heads wagging around to get a look for any newcomers, so you found two open barstools. Your butt claimed one, and your purse the other.

Ten minutes passed without anyone coming up to you, so you ordered a drink. Maybe the wine would distract you from the fact it looked like you were getting stood up. Or walked out on. That was really the thought weighing on your mind, so of course, you didn’t turn the bartender down when he offered to refill your glass.

“YN?”

Oh, thank god! With a smile plastered to your face, you turned to greet who you assumed could only be your date. But the smile dropped when you saw the tall man occupying space next to you.

He was just as tall as you remembered, maybe taller. And he’d filled out in the shoulders and arms. Even though he wore a dark button-up, you could tell he’d added definition to his upper body over the years. Not that you were checking. And you definitely weren’t totally entranced at the way he had started styling his hair back with gel, a single piece slipped out to rest on his forehead. That one strand of hair calling back memories of being teenagers and carding your hands through his shaggy, overgrown hair while you told him he needed to start using gel to tame it. Oh, and that grin on his face, that caused whisker-like wrinkles that had always made you laugh and poke his cheek.

This could not be happening right now.

“Johnny Suh, I thought you were living in South Korea.”

You didn’t mean for your voice to sound so aggressive, but it did, and that gleam in his eye was disappearing.

“I thought you had moved away too.” He just stood there, looking over you, the grin faded, but still smiling. Always happy. Usually anyway.

“I moved back a few years ago.” Johnny looked at the stool you had your purse on, obviously signaling that he wanted to sit. Your watch told you that you’d been here for 30 minutes and there was no sign of a blind date. So with a sigh, you removed your bag, and let him climb onto it. Or slide onto it rather.

“Were you saving it for someone?” He waved for the bartender, his shirt sleeve slipping down to show he still wore that silver linked bracelet he’d got when you were 15 years old.

“Apparently not.” Your glass was empty again, and you let the bartender fill a third glass while Johnny ordered. “When did you move back here? Or are you just home for a visit?”

A cool, easy smile splashed across his face. “No, I’m here permanently. About a year ago I got offered a job here, so I made the trek home.”

“What kind of job?”

“Photographer for a magazine.”

You nearly spit your wine all over his expensive looking shirt. “P-photography?” He looked over at you confused, handing you a napkin to wipe your chin, a nod in answer. “But you said you were going to school to be a doctor. We argued over that for so long and then you just—” You cut yourself off. No reason to dig back into those old emotions.

He nodded again, understanding perfectly where you’d been going. He’d always been good at that. “No, yeah, I was originally going to school for that. Make the parents proud kind of thing. But once I got there, I realized it didn’t really matter. My parents would be happy as long as I was happy.” You nod. “Yeah, you told me that plenty of times. So I changed to an arts university but stayed in Korea. I liked it there and I’d already started to make friends anyway.”

It’d been too late, but at least he had finally taken your advice.

You looked over at him. He was drinking from his bottle of beer, and for a moment you remembered being 16 and sneaking into your parents’ liquor cabinet to try vodka for the first time. Johnny had nearly thrown up, and you’d told him you loved him for the first time. Your face went red at that memory.

“You should’ve told me. I would’ve been so proud.”

Johnny’s eyes found yours, a sad lift to his lips. “I tried. You blocked me everywhere, remember? Not even your friends would get a message to you from me. I gave up trying after your parents told me you’d left for college.”

You wanted to hang your head in shame. All those years of friendship down the drain because you were too stubborn to unblock him on social media. It occurred to you that he was still blocked, no wonder you hadn’t heard the news he was back.

“I’m sorry,” you mumbled. You’d never been very good at admitting when you’re wrong.

But his eyes perked up none the less and a grin found its way back to his mouth. “I’m sorry, what was that? What’d you say?”

You rolled your eyes. But a smile had crossed your face too, so you relented, just this once. “I said I’m sorry. For just ditching you back then. I should’ve been okay with the choices you made, even if they took—” You snapped your mouth closed real fast.

His eyes were nearly twinkling. “You’re not gonna finish that either? Nearly 10 years later and you still can’t admit that you cared for me?”

Brows furrowing, you turned to fully face him, a finger coming up to poke his chest. “I couldn’t admit my feelings? Are you actually being serious right now, John Suh?”

“You wouldn’t even tell me why you were so mad that I was leaving, just that it changed the future. What was I supposed to understand from that?”

“Are you saying that if I had told you I was in love with you, you would’ve stayed and gone to Northwestern with me like we planned?”

His face fell a little.

“Yeah, that’s what I thought.” You turned back to the bar, glad to have the break so you could take another sip of your wine.

You nearly jumped when Johnny’s hand brushed yours on the bartop.

“No, I wouldn’t have stayed. But we could’ve tried to work things out.”

You sighed.

This is not what you had signed on for. This was supposed to be a night out to meet a stranger and have a drink, not to open up wounds from the past. “Johnny,” you hesitated, took a breath. “I did tell you. I told you a lot that last year.”

His eyes went wide, mouth slightly falling open. “What are you talking about? When?”

A blush covered your cheeks. “Every time we got drunk and you kissed me.”

He looked like his eyes were going to pop out of his head. “What?” He pulled away, trying to think back to being 17 and 18 years old, getting drunk in your basement. Something seemed to click cause his eyes shut and he took a long swig of his beer. “I thought I made that up.” Another drink. “I thought I imagined the kissing and the confessions because I had gotten so drunk.”

You couldn’t help the laugh. With his eyes squeezed so tight, it was like he was trying to prevent them from falling out. “Nope, those were real. I thought you refusing to acknowledge or talk about it meant you didn’t actually feel that way.”

His eyes finally opened and he looked down at you, all soft and open and warm. “That explains why you had as much of a breakdown over it as you did.”

“I did not have a breakdown.” You felt indignant for all of 5 seconds before his eyes were calming you down again. “A tiny one, really. And like you said, totally justified. Mostly.”

He laughed then, and you felt like you could drown in it. You didn’t even know you could miss a sound so much.

Things were smooth from there. Johnny told you all about Korea and school, the friends he’d made, the jobs he’d worked. He told you about his two short, failed relationships, and about how he got the magazine job (“They liked my Instagram more than my portfolio!”). His parents were doing well, nearing retirement, and they were happy he was home (“My mom basically had a party the first night I was back, can you believe that?” Yes, you totally could.).

But then it wound around to you. You talked about school, how you’d decided to try California since you didn’t have a best friend for Northwestern anymore. You shared your horror stories from the part-time jobs you worked, and the excitement when you finally got hired as an intern at a publishing company when you’d moved back home after graduation. You’d worked your way up to assistant editor, and things were looking bright.

And then he asked the question you’d been hoping he wouldn’t know to ask.

“Now, I thought I had heard you were getting married.” You wanted to choke on your water. “But, no ring, you didn’t mention anyone, and you’re sitting at a bar alone on a Saturday night. What gives?”

A big sigh. You hated talking about this. But, maybe it would be nice to get it off your chest to someone who had never even known him and wouldn’t find some way to defend him. You gave Johnny a smile.

“Yes, I was engaged, almost two years ago. Things seemed good.” You shrugged. It wasn’t that you were sad about it, but the sting still felt fresh. “People tell me I worked too much and drove a wedge between us. Some people say they saw it coming a mile away. Which, if someone knows your partner is going to cheat on you, shouldn’t they tell you?” Johnny stiffened at that. You sighed again. “Some combination of us not being right, me working too many hours and not giving him enough attention, and him… not being ready to settle.” You looked over at Johnny, who sported a sweet frown and furrowed brow. “Honestly though, I don’t think we ever really loved each other.”

It felt like a boulder lifted off your shoulders. It was the first time you’d been able to get the words out. And you didn’t worry that Johnny would judge you.

His hand brushed over yours. “Why’d you say yes?”

“Cause I thought I had to. That’s what was expected of me after three years with someone.”

He nodded, but you could tell he didn’t really understand. Not that he needed to.

You let out a big breath and a giggle. The four glasses of wine were maybe starting to hit you now. But not too bad that you would regret your words tomorrow. “I don’t think I’ve loved anyone since you. You were the first boy I ever loved, and I don’t know that I’ll find someone worthy again.”

Johnny bloomed right in front of your eyes. His smile was blinding and his eyes soft, and you just wanted to bask in him for a bit longer.

But the bar was closing, and Johnny was offering you a ride home, and you accepted.

He walked you to your door, exchanged numbers, and promised to message soon so you could maybe have lunch. Before he could leave though, Johnny grabbed your hand.

“You know… I’ve never loved anyone but you either.”

His goodbye was a kiss to your forehead and a shy wave as he headed for the stairs.

You hadn’t even unlocked the door yet before Kara was calling. Her voice seemed exceptionally loud after the quiet goodbye from Johnny just a moment before.

“So? How was it? Did you have a good time? He’s cute, right?”

You laughed, sticking your key in your lock, and pushing your door open with your shoulder, just a bit wobbly. “He never showed.”

“What? What are you talking about?” She sounds absolutely scandalized. You’re sorry to ruin your friend’s (and her boyfriend’s) perception of this guy, but you weren’t going to lie to spare her feelings.

“He didn’t show up. I sat at the bar waiting for him until I was joined by an old friend. I kept an eye out, and no one ever came looking for me. Maybe you didn’t show him a good enough picture and he couldn’t recognize me.” You shrug even though she can’t see. Your shoes are kicked off by the door and you reach around to try to wiggle the zipper of your dress down.

“That—that doesn’t make any sense, YN.”

“I’m sorry babe, but that’s the truth.”

“But… YN he just told me he had a really nice time.”

You froze in the middle of your room, dress dropping from your shoulders. “What? But I didn’t talk to anyone else.”

“I swear. He texted me that he’d found you, that you shared drinks, and that you talked for hours.”

The both of you sat in silence for a moment, trying to process exactly what was happening.

“What’s your friend’s name? The guy you set me up with. You never told me his name.”

“His name is Johnny Suh.”

The noise that escaped you was halfway between a laugh and a sob.

“YN? Are you okay?”

“Hah, um…. I don’t know.”

“C’mon, talk to me. What’s going on?”

You ran a hand down your face, feeling hot and cold, and a little bit agitated. It would be just like him to pull something like this. “That’s who I was with. That’s my childhood friend.”

“Really?!” You pulled the phone away at her shrill voice. “Why didn’t he say anything? He recognized you? Why didn’t he say anything to me? I don’t understand...”

You laughed this time, finally moving toward your dresser to pull out pajamas. “Yeah, well that’s John Suh for you. He’s quite the enigma.”

She’s quiet, thinking over something quite hard. “What do you want me to do?”

“What do you mean?” You drop onto your bed, pulling your laptop open to search for his profile on your social media site. You’d got his number tonight, it was probably time to unblock him.

“He messaged me earlier, asking to set the two of you up for another date. What do you want me to do?”

You’d found his account. His profile picture was of him and his mom, and you couldn’t help the little smile that came to your face. After all these years, Johnny had been able to maintain a spot in your heart. Maybe you could give him the second chance you’d both been craving for so many years.

Even though the dork had just promised to set up a date while asking your best friend to do the same thing.

You let yourself smile more widely at the thought. “Yeah,” you said, closing your laptop and shoving it away. “Set us up.”

I love all animals overall, and I am actually a horse groom, I have a the “Vocational Qualification in Horse Care and Management”, specializing in harness racing, and I have worked with horses for over 10 years so far.

As a kid, I was a huge dinosaur nerd and I still love them.

I love comics and I have also drawn comics since I was a kid. I still have all of my old comics saved. Lately I haven’t been drawing even nearly as much and only fanart, tho. Drawing is fun but I simultaneously love and hate it.

Lol it seems I have love for everything but humans :D:D:D:D:D:D I didn’t even realize that before making this list looooooooool XD But yeah, more rambling under the cut :D But thanks for reading, if you end up reading it.

1. I am a teetotaler and I have never even tried alcohol. I also don’t smoke (and never have) and I avoid drugs - so much so that I don’t know if getting ADHD medication would break this “rule” of mine because they are made from the same stuff as one well-known drug...

I think it started as me just being so “lawful” all the time and the legal drinking age in Finland is 18, so I wanted to follow the rules at all times so I didn’t even think about drinking before the age of 18 and I was often very much shocked by other teens who did that, and I also remember being really worried when my best friend started experimenting with alcohol as a teenager. Despite the legal drinking age being 18, basically everyone here still started (and starts?) drinking between the ages of 13 and 15. So at school, from Monday to Wednesday, all that happened was overhearing the drunk stories of other kids. And from Wednesday to Friday, it changed to them discussing their plans for the next weekend. It was like this every week. And I never could wrap my head around it (I spent my weekends at home being happy that I could have free time and play The Sims 2 or something).

Then at some point I guess I just felt like I don’t even need alcohol for having fun and I still haven’t felt like that, and I don’t think I ever will either. When I turned 18, I was super annoyed by everyone because EVERYONE asked me “So you’re turning 18, did you plan on going to a bar?” and I would always answer something like “I don’t even drink (alcohol) so why would I?” and what still annoys me a little is people telling me “That’s good. That’s a good decision, drinking is bad.” and like... if you really think so, why do you drink yourself, then?

2. I love cats. Maybe that is partially visible from my blog too but I really, really love cats, and for decades my favorite animal has been tiger. When I was born, we had already 3 cats in the house and the last one of them died when I was almost 13 (he would have turned 16 that year). Before I moved out at the age of 23, there was not a single day without cats and currently my parents have 4 (plus a dog). I am still dreaming of my own cat but I can’t take one now because animals are not allowed in my flat but whenever I move out of this, I will choose one with pets allowed and I will adopt a cat. Most likely a rescue cat if I can find one, or even two so they can keep each other company. As cute as kittens are, adult cats are also important and need homes.

3. I also love animals overall. I actually like them more than humans (but technically humans are just apes so they’re my least favorite animal, then) and when I was 7-years-old, whenever I was asked about my dream job, I always said or wrote “I don’t know, probably something to do with animals!” And since my teens I have had lots of different ideas for jobs but when I was 25, I graduated as a horse groom. And have been (on-off) working with horses for over 10 years now (currently unemployed). Originally I chose the horse work because I was so pissed by the capitalist system and the thought of an office job or job at a grocery store and such was just... ew, no, never! So I chose horses because if I have to work, then I will do something useful and someone’s gotta take care of the animals too and I love animals, and animal work doesn’t feel like work but more like a lifestyle, so I’ve been basically fooling the system AND myself by that. Sometimes I also dream of the work as a zookeeper.

4. As a kid, I was a huge dinosaur nerd and I still love them (Land Before Time FTW). With my siblings we had a huge collection of dinosaur toys and I also have always loved evolution and genetics, so what we did was to give an individual name for every dinosaur we had. And we knew the species of each of them, and we knew so many facts about them too. Each dino also had their own personality and we even created family trees for them. There were generations of these dinos and we also created this “growing up order” which meant we put them all standing next to each other, usually under my brother’s bed because we had so many of them and they didn’t fit anywhere else lol, from the youngest/smallest to the oldest. And our biggest mission, that never got finished, was “The Big Play” which was us playing that the ancestor parents aka the oldest and biggest of our toys were born and we would play with them and play how they grow older and eventually start having their own kids - who were the next generation in our “growing up order” :D

No wonder why I still love playing The Sims games, especially TS3! (I even have a Finnish simsblog.) Lots of the things I have done and loved as a kid still live so strong in me, they just come out differently than what they did then. Imagination and toys changed to video games, especially The Sims (but I did play video games a lot as a kid too) and my love for genetics and evolution is still really strong.

5. I love comics. My favorite comic book character of all times is Garfield - he’s a cat and I grew up with cats so obviously I fell in love with the Garfield comics too, and I grew up with them as well. My mom subscribed to the Finnish Garfield comic in the early 90s and I have full volumes starting from the year 1994. I also have lots and lots of earlier comics and I always hunt for them from second-hand shops and I don’t have too many of them missing anymore, and I’m really proud of my collection. I also collect Lucky Luke, Rantanplan and Asterix - I have almost all of the (Finnish publications of) Lucky Lukes and Rantanplan.

I have also always loved drawing and I drew my first actual comic when I was 9 or 10 years old. Before that I had been drawing lots of “image series”, one image per paper. I still have all my old comics here in a drawer and I have had so many different characters and majority of them have had endless “plots” aka no plots whatsoever :D Before I actually never drew humans, I started drawing human portraits as fanart when I was 16 and the first human comic characters I drew (also as a fanart) when I was 18 or so. Before that everything was animals of some sort - I have had ants, flies, dogs, cats, birds... even ghosts at some point, and I also created one very simple anthropomorphic creature just so that it was easy to draw and I could concentrate on drawing clothes and hair. Oh my god I loved drawing hairdos to these, and so often I had one female “main character” and I gave her a “growth spurt” where I just drew her in different ages until she was “adult” and I continued telling about her life as an “adult”. Very often these differen phases were literally phases, there were soooooo many different styles each just for one year :D Then at some point I started coming up with actual ideas and plots instead of just drawing whatever I felt like drawing. I still draw comics nowadays, but those are mainly fanart and I haven’t drawn about OC’s in years and currently I have no active ones (except for the “self-comics” about my deep thoughts etc.) and I don’t know how to create new ones, I just have no creativity unless it’s provoked by a fandom thing or when I get a base like The Sims 3 where I don’t have an empty canvas but am given the tools for creating something new.

It might be fun to share some of my old comics here one day but this blog isn’t really an “art blog”, even tho I post some of my drawings occassionally. But let me know if you’d like to see some and maybe I will make a post about that in the future.

1. have you ever gotten soap in your mouth for cursing? do you think that’s right to do to kids who curse?: Nope. I didn’t say any curse words as a kid for one, but also I’m pretty sure my parents wouldn’t have done that if I did. They would have just talked to me about it and tell me not to say them. I personally don’t like the soap punishment, I think it’s dumb. I’ve heard of some parents who use hot sauce instead, which is just horrible. I understand if you don’t want your kid to curse, but you don’t have to torture them. Just talk with them and explain why it’s not nice to say and that kids shouldn’t speak that way or whatever. Don’t make too big a deal about it. Try not to curse around them either, that’s where they likely hear it and you can be an example for them. If talking doesn’t work then take something away like a toy or some computer time or whatever. I think it’s also important to reward kids when they’re behaving, even just acknowledging it. That can go a long way.

2. what age do you think is appropriate for kids to start watching horror movies with lots of gore?: Well, I personally don’t think kids should watch that at all. I’d say wait until they’re in high school. 

3. do you know what the word “polyamorous” means? and did you ever hear that song by breaking benjamin?: Yes I know what it means, no I haven’t heard that particular song by them.

4. how many bug bites do you currently have?:  Zero.

5. what’s one word you always have trouble spelling and can’t remember the correct spelling of?: Whenever a question like this comes up, “onomatopoeia” always comes to mind. That’s a word I never use except for these questions haha, but yeah I can never seem to remember the spelling, I have to Google it each time.

6. what’s one band that really sucks live?: I’ve never seen a bad live performance, but I’ve heard things about some bands that I haven’t seen, such as Maroon 5. I’ve heard they’re pretty bad. :X

7. do you go to warped tour? why or why not?:  I’ve never been.

8. do you have any wind chimes outside your house? how many?: Yes, a couple. 

9. do you know someone who actually had someone give them a bouquet of real roses and one fake one, and tell them they’ll love them until the last one dies?:  I’ve never heard of that lol but awww how corny and sweet.

10. which do you like better, firefox or internet explorer?: Firefox out of the two, but I use Chrome.

11. who is the most attractive person on your street?: I haven’t seen all my neighbors, but I don’t find the few I have seen attractive. 

12. do you have a flat stomach? would you ever wear a belly shirt to show it off?:  I have a flat stomach, but noooo you’ll never see me in a crop top. I’m waaaaay too self-conscious for that.

13. which do you prefer on yourself, long or short hair?: Long, which is what I have, but it takes more energy and maintenance than I can give right now and I should just cut it short again. :/ I just can’t bring myself to do it for some reason, though.

14. what about on your preferred sex? long or short?:  Short.

15. with eyebrow piercings, do you prefer the ring or the curved barbell?:  I don’t care for eyebrow piercings, personally.

16. have you ever pierced something yourself? why and what was it?: Nooooo. I would never. I’m terrified of needles and don’t do well at all when getting blood work done, and that’s by professionals. I could never attempt to pierce myself with no experience at all. I’d also be scared of doing something wrong or causing an infection.

17. would you date someone who was five years older than you?:  Maybe. I think that’s the oldest I would go.

18. i heard of a girl whose boyfriend cheated on her with a 13yearold (he’s 18) and got her pregnant, so she left him. what would you have done if you were in her situation?:  Omg. I’d have left him, too, but I also would have reported him.

19. how old was the youngest person you ever found attractive? and how old were you?:  Just a year younger than me.

20. isn’t it annoying when you’re trying to start conversation with someone and all they say is “yup” or “really now” or something like that?: Ugh, yes. If they’re clearly not into it or they’e distracted then forget it, what’s the point? I can’t keep a conversation going if the other person isn’t putting anything into it nor would I want to even try.

21. if you have aim, do you have any linked screen names? how many?: AIM died.

22. which of your favorite bands released a new album last?: Hmm. I’m blanking at the moment.

23. are you waiting for any bands to release new albums? which ones?:  Not in particular, but I’m always down for new music.

24. what’s your favorite store for buying cds and such at?:  I haven’t bought a CD since like 2011. I usually just went to like Walmart or Target. I also bought a few CDs from a place that sold old records/albums/cassettes, though. That’s also the place I sold all my CDs to.

44. did you ever notice how it’s more tragic if a younger person dies than an older person, even if they both died of the same cause?:  Loss of my grandparents was heartbreaking for me, I had a really hard time with their loss. Them being older didn’t make it any easier. I think why people find it even more devastating when a child dies is because they were so young and hadn’t even had a chance, yet, like their life had just begun. There was so much still to experience. They should have had a lot more time. Even a young adult because it’s like their life is also kind of just beginning in a way, perhaps they just started or finished college, were about to start a new job, or were about to get married and start a family. They, too, have so much still to experience and should have had more time. But still, losing someone who is older is still just as sad. I think some people just can sometimes find a little comfort in the fact that they had lived a long life and got to experience a lot. 

45. when’s the last time you snuck around, and where did you go?: I don’t have to sneak around. Never have.

47. do you think the price for a movie ticket is too high these days?: Well, these days movie theaters aren’t even open. However, I don’t think it’s the movie ticket price that’s too high, it’s getting stuff at the concession stand that racks it up. The food and drinks are ridiculously overpriced. I just have to get some popcorn, though. I miss movie theater popcorn with salt and lots of butter.  48. have you ever been to a drive-in movie theater?:  Yeah, a few times as a kid. Actually, the last time I went was to see the Willy Wonka movie with Johnny Depp when it came out. I wish they still had drive in theaters where I live. I think they should make a big comeback, I mean that’s perfect for social distancing. We can stay in our own cars, closed off from others, but still enjoy movies on the big screen.

His full name is Michaleas Ermiah Lament. First part is because Michael,,, sounds tOO WHITE. Ermiah I came up with my myself but looking into it, it is kinda close to Ermias or Jeremiah. Hmmmm. Lament? He's a sad boi.

2. Do they have any titles? How did they get them?

One personal title he was given while in the military was "The Lamenting Giant". It was more to poke fun at their commander more than anything because of how tall he was and usually he has a distant, kind of sad look on his face like he was constantly thinking.

3. Did they have a good childhood? What are fond memories they have of it? What’s a bad memory?

Yes he did- until he was 9. It was pretty modest but comfortable until then. Fond memories he had would be are listening to his mother hum as he helped her clean around their little house, and looking over his fathers woodwork that he sold in town. For the last bit..... *SCOFFS* His entire life after 9 years old. That's all chock full of bad memories but if I have to limit it of his childhood,,, everything from 9 to 20 years old.

He knew both his father and mother! He had a very good relationship with them both. They were very nurturing but stern when they needed to be (like when he wanted to go outside or into town with his father). A good memory he has of them is just them sitting together for dinner and his father telling him stories about the places he had been when he was younger.

He has no siblings.

When Micha is happy he usually just has a smile plastered on his face for a while. He is capable of singing but doesn't like doing it, so he opts to humming. He doesn't know how to dance.

Remembering his past trauma. No he doesn't cry regularly and if he feels he will he will hide off somewhere and call himself a dumb ass. When he's sad he's desolate. He makes himself scarce and when he is around you get that brooding feeling.

So to summarize that entire game, overall, Johnson, the evil lawyer, was cheating.

I love how the show forgot it’s own timeline within the same season. I got to hand it to this series in how much it just *doesn’t give a damn* about the timeline at all. Like it has a video game spinoff where Yugi is King Henry 7th fighting in the war of roses and they’re like...”That works perfectly. And can we have a spinoff where they’re just on motorcycles and throwing cards? That’ll make sense, too”

Like it’s sort of refreshing in this age of people raging about every minor detail in Marvel or DC or Star Wars in how much these guys messed up the Kaiba timeline but they don’t even care. They’re over there sipping tea with their middle finger to the sunset just like, “come at me bro, and I’ll just make another insane spinoff just to spite you all. Go ahead, do it.”

Remember also that Kaiba’s past self is also married to a paper card that Kaiba now uses so Kaiba has not only been orphaned twice but is also a widow. And he’s only 16.

Apparently in the Japanese version, he was like 8 when he got adopted, I dunno why they changed that, they just did, and no one cares. Which is fine. It’s a kid’s show. If we treated more shows like that and just relaxed and let the creator go for it and tell us their crazy tale, we’d probably enjoy the content more.

I mean...every single property ever written is going to have timeline problems, eventually. And then there’s Yugioh, who have made so many timeline sins at this point that Season Zero might actually still be canon. Like, that’s what’s kind of neat when you have such a flexible timeline. If we were to say the timeline is perfect, then basically none of Season Zero happened. But, because they never outright say and because they contradict themselves so often, then sure, believe whatever you want. No one can fight you. Yugi once made a guy think he was watch parts and then set another guy on fire with Russian whisky. That can still be canon if we wanted to.

Either way, if Gozoboro got the Hell out of Dodge 5 years ago and abandoned his kids, that means that the Big 5 and Seto have been in charge of this company since Kaiba was 11. As someone who watches 11 yos as a part time I would LOVE to see any of them try and do sales taxes. On guns. Seto Kaiba has been selling mostly guns since the time he was 11. No wonder he used to dye his hair lime green. It probably went gray from stress at age 12.

But then once I assume this duel is thankfully over and Noah is about to do everyone a favor and delete Johnson, Joey decides to be an idiot.

And then he teleports away in a very pretty set of twinkle lights.

It was nice of our villain to try and save everyone’s asses. Yugioh villains are unique in that they are constantly saving our heroes better than the heroes save themselves. In this case, Joey was so bad at saving himself that he immediately jumped back into the same pit Noah dragged him out of.

And Seto and Mokuba just have nothing to say about that, apparently. No one seems to think that this was the weirdest exchange just now.

Like they really did just sit here in this desert with one TV and watched Joey Wheeler play a game although they supposedly don’t like Joey at all.

Yeah, he just screams out this weird line and then adds an “if it weren’t for you meddling kids” type of finisher and then blows up into thousands of pieces.

1. Briefly Describe your OC: Appearance, personality, role in a story, etc..

okay so!! hana is half-japanese, half-german, she’s got short/spiky black hair and fucking Huge brown eyes. she’s the protagonist of a thus-unwritten pirate love story and i fucking love her. she’s superbly socially awkward (doesn’t get customs like politeness or like asking before doing things asdjkfl), she’s a Romantic romantic, she loves sword-fighting, she was raised by her father (alongside three older half-brothers, though she was chosen as the heir to his ship which hmm pissed two of them off), she’s very much butch/tomboy, she loves adventure and sailing so fucking much, uhhh yeah her.

2. Briefly describe their backstory/childhood

like i said, she was raised by her dad, who she idolizes, along with her three brothers on the sea; she never knew her mother, because her father told her that she died giving birth to hana (or did she….? hm. maybe hana’s dad is just shitty?). she was always super excited to play and go on adventures and fight, especially with her three older brothers (only one of whom actually like. liked her.), and by the time she was old enough to hold a sword, her dad taught her how to. eventually, her dad became ill, and named hana, who was only 16, his successor. her two eldest brothers planned a mutiny to overthrow her, killing the other brother who protested. hana fought them but they escaped with half her treasure, promising to come back and kill her, and she’s spent the past six years seeking them out to defeat them.

3. Describe their family life and friends.

i mean i pretty much nailed her family, but she’s very close to all the crew. i’ll give you a quick rundown: there’s caspian, her first mate/quartermaster (grew up on the ship with her, an orphan who was stolen in one of the raids, searching out his lost family but is also a big time goof), dover, her “advisor”/sailing master (wise, lazy, arrogant, bitchy, basically her pseudo-father because her father was usually off being captain), darya, her gunner (slutty bisexual aromantic queen, runs the artillery AND the under deck gambling ring, always drunk, loyal to a fault especially to hana), and zarya (we’ll get to her later ;)) and the other lower-ranking crew members.

4. What is the world they come from like?

hmmm very mystical and mysterious, very “pirates are bad and suck and we dont like them even though they’re not usually bad” but. you know. hana is still an outlaw of the land. there are mermaids and sirens and cracken and curses so it’s better to assume that if its magical it exists.

5. Are they original or exist in a certain fandom?

hm… i honestly dont even think she would think about it like that dkdkflfl. probably the charming one, the leader, the adorkable one.

i think she would choose to keep in contact with her mother. not necessarily live with her, because then she wouldnt have her first love which is the sea, but just like. talk to her. know her better. go see her every few months. write her from different ports about their adventures.

i would honestly probably be so fucking charmed by her. shes got that way about her, a leadership quality you can’t shake, even if shes really incredibly awkward too.

i’m actually gonna switch things up on this tag and to the mains from book 2 of the albatross duology (tentative title: death, jokes and other necessities)

1) What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.?)

felix: for felix it was backstory and personality first (also his ability, bc that’s a big part of the story. he can talk to the dead)

jericho: for jericho it was his ability (and consequently his backstory) jer has the ability called ‘kiss of death.’ and it’s exactly what it sounds like. 

2) Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?

felix: his family! primarily his older, twin sisters. they’re a trio of terror for sure. i wanted their dynamic to work really well together, so i designed felix with his sisters in mind the whole time. 

jericho: yes! jericho was one of the key 10 (superhero group that took down a dictator about 15 years before albatross starts) so i designed him with the whole key 10 group in mind. he was escorted by another member of the group bc his dad is the president of the country he’s from. jer is connected to a lot of the original members of the k10, so he’s v interconnected. 

3) How did you choose their name?

felix: i wanted a cool, royal sounding name since felix is royalty (i also just really like the name felix)

jericho: i’ve wanted to name a character jericho for....a long time. that’s it lmao;;

4) In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?

felix: the war had a huge impact on felix’s character. he never wanted to be involved in ruling, he’s the baby of the family it wouldn’t have ever really fallen to him. but when the war was getting really bad, he stepped in to be his older sister’s right hand (bc his other sister never wanted to rule either, and he and arty wanted to spare her from that duty, and let her live the life she really really wanted) so, felix ended up setting his medium business aside for a few years to be arty’s right hand.

jericho: also the war. but in a different way. jer was in the k10 and was, obvs, on the forefront of the battle. but growing up the thing he hated the most was war and violence, so being called upon to be in the k10 really challenged jericho in a lot of ways and made him even more of a pacifist than he was as a kid. 

5) Is there any significance behind their hair colour?

felix: yeah, actually! felix has like. lavender hair? it’s a really common hair color in Pria (where he’s from) ((other common hair colors include dark purple, black, white, and blue))

jericho: not really, he has dark brown hair, but that relatively common in a lot of places.

6) Is there any significance behind their eye colour?

felix: nah, he has brown eyes, but they’re not significant

jericho: kinda? he has green eyes, which are pretty uncommon in harra (and no one else in his family has them, they all have variations of brown or hazel)

7) Is there any significance behind their height?

felix: nah, he’s average height, about 5′9′’

jericho: not significant, but he is short, about 5′3′’

8) What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?

felix: seeing the positive in any situation possible

jericho: high-key introversion

felix & jericho: nope (i don’t tend to base character stuff on me, i might draw on my experiences, but i don’t intentionally add me-stuff)

felix: he always looks to the positive and he will put his family’s needs/wants above his own every time

I had always hated hospitals. I never had to go to one for anything more than a few broken bones myself, but the amount of time I spent visiting my mum was enough to taint my view of them forever. The fact that I had spent the last few days in one, glued to my brothers beside didn’t do anything to change this fact. “Are you ever going to go home or are you moving in permanently?” Tae asked as he watched me intently. “As long as you’re in here, I’m in here,” I said with a smile. He shook his head at my answer. “[y/n],” he started. “I want to be here Tae.” He didn’t back down as expected. “I understand that you’re worried, but I’m ok, I’m stable, and you look worn out. Don’t sacrifice your wellbeing for me.” I shook my head. “Or are you just here because he isn’t?” “Of course I’m not,” “You can’t hate him forever,” Taehyung continued, not even letting me speak. “The man was forced to make a choice.” “Yeah and he made the wrong one,” I finally bit back. “I don’t care what the excuses are, he said I could rely on him, and now he’s proved that I can’t.” My voice was shaky and weak as I tried to project the reason I was still mad. The truth was, I didn’t know why I was mad. I didn’t even know if I was mad at Namjoon, I just needed someone to blame. “Right…” Taehyung finally said before shuffling to one side of his bed and patting the empty space. “Come here girlie.” I hesitated, but couldn’t say no to him, and went to sit beside him, letting him pull me into his side for a little cuddle. “I am happy you’re sticking up for me like this, it makes me proud in fact, but don’t compromise your happiness for me…” I rested my hand on his chest, leaning my head on his shoulder, “I’m not… I just. I don’t know how to feel… I know it’s not his fault, I just wish he would’ve listened.” Silence fell between us after that. We lay with each other comfortably, neither one of us wanting to speak and start another argument. Needless to say, a knock at the door was very welcome. “You two awake?” I heard Jin’s friendly voice come into the room. “Sure are,” Taehyung said. “God you look rough,” Jin joked, seeing his friend’s state before looking at me. His smile fell and his expression grew worried as he took me in. “[y/n], when was the last time you slept?” I sat up before moving and standing beside the bed, stretching my arms above my head. “I slept last night.” “He’s your future husband don’t lie,” Taehyung said, trying to lighten the mood, but simply did the opposite. Jin and I hadn’t spoken since our last phone call and although he didn’t know about my breakdown, he was smart enough to figure out that something had happened. Taehyung cleared his throat, “what I meant was she’s been having naps on the chair but that’s it.” Jin smiled at me sadly, “you want me to stay here? You can go home and rest?” I shook my head, “Isn’t Tae the one we should be all worrying about here? I’m fine!” I was rather flattered with the concern, but this should’ve be about me. “I don’t need to be worried about. Dad’s taking me home tonight.” “Oh they are discharging you so soon?” Jin asked, and I was relieved that the conversation had shifted focus. Taehyung nodded, “I mean, I’m still going to be stuck in bed but at least it’ll be my own bed,” he said with a weak laugh. “And who knows, maybe I’ll even make it to the wedding.” “Don’t push yourself, it’s basically a super extravagant party,” Jin said, glancing at me momentarily. “You still trying to find an out?” We stayed silent. “What if you can’t by then? It’s only what, a week away? Will you go through with it?” Jin cleared his throat, “I don’t k-“ “Yes,” I said quietly. Both the boys quickly looked to me. “Sorry?” Jin asked. “You said it yourself, it’s looking unlikely, what other choice do we have?” Taehyung frowned, “don’t be petty just because you’re mad at Namjoon,” he warned, and Jin looked between the two of us in confusion. “I’m not… It’s not about that at all,” I defended. “It’s just what has to happen.” Before anything else could be said, there was a knock at the door. “I apologize, I need to change Mr. Kim’s dressing,” the nurse said as she came in. “Can you take [y/n] home Jin?” “But Ta-“ “No but’s girlie, you can come see me at dads but I’m making you go home and rest.” I knew he wasn’t going to change his mind. “Fine, ok, but text me-“ “If anything happens, I know,” he grinned. Jin placed a hand on the small of my back, “come on then love,” he said, aware of the nurses prying eyes. I sighed, going and giving Tae a hug goodbye before leaving. Jin and I walked silently through the halls before he stopped. I turned to face him and saw his expression. “What’s wrong?” “Just something Tae said,” he shook his head, “but that’s not what I want to ask.” He swallowed, “did you mean it? You’ll go through with the marriage?” I was a bit confused, “yeah?” “No, I mean, god this is going to sound awful, you won’t… Run? Like, escape off somewhere?” He looked genuinely afraid. “I just- I don’t know, don’t want you to think your doomed if you marry me and have to alienate yourself.” I don’t know what came over me, or what caused this sudden feeling, but I moved forward and hugged him tightly. Jin hesitated, before slowly wrapping his arms around me. “I won’t run… I promise you.” He dipped his head, resting it on my shoulder and I felt him let out a sigh of relief. “Thank god,” he laughed before stepping back. The moment had passed before I had the chance to ask why he was so worried about it. “Well now that we’ve made a bit of a scene I’ll get you home,” Jin joked. The whole journey home consisted of me panicking about Namjoon. A part of me kind of hoped he wouldn’t be there so we wouldn’t need to have the dreaded conversation. I said my goodbyes to Jin and headed up to my apartment. I opened the door and heard Namjoon before I saw him. “Yeah, thanks, I’ll check it out, I gotta go.” He chucked his phone in his pocket and turned to face me. “[y/n],” he said, looking relieved to see me. “Hey,” I placed my bag down next to me. That’s just going to get worse.” He walked through the room as I spoke, “I’m not letting him attack the people I care about and get away with it!” “You’ll get yourself killed!” I was shouting now, “and don’t you dare say it’s to protect me because I’d rather be in danger and have you here than be safe and have you gone.” He didn’t reply, his eyes were trained on me as tears began welling up in my eyes. “I can’t have anyone else hurt, please Joonie.” He reached up and cupped my face, “I’m so close baby, I’m sorry, I have to do this.” I stepped back from his touch, “and here I was thinking I’d come back and everything would be ok,” I laughed, wiping my eyes. I took in a deep breath, and for the second time that week, I left. Tears streaming down my face. They didn’t let up as I neared my destination, I couldn’t see them letting up for some time. I felt so much at once. I was angry mostly, how Namjoon disregarded his safety and in a way, our safety for his own revenge, upset at myself for not sticking by and supporting him. That’s what you were meant to do for someone you care for right? More angry and upsetting thoughts raced through my head as I stepped up to my destination. I should’ve text and warned him I was coming earlier, but I knew it wouldn’t matter. I pounded on the door, making no effort to hold back my tears. Despite the ungodly hour, it wasn’t long before the door was opened and I was greeted by a very tired looking Jin. “[Y/n]?” He said, worry instantly covering his expression, which only got worse as he realized I was crying. He didn’t hesitate in pulling me into a tight hug. “I’m so scared Jin.” “Shh, Shh, it’s ok, I’ve got you,” he said softly. I felt so different in his arms to how I felt 10 seconds prior. It was safe and warm. “Let’s get you inside,” he said, leading me into the house.
