in fandoms there’s always that one ship that’s so beautiful and perfect that 6 other people know about

You know, even after including same sex couples in shipping (Canon or no), I can't say Palletshipping is for me. Yet difficult not to see Gary being jealous that Goh is the boy of Ash's dreams. Okay, so maybe one sided Palletshipping:-D.
Someone hasn't watched the Johto League Silver Conference. 😉
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the whole half a Pokéball thing where each of them carries one half of a Pokéball? 🥺 Which, by the way, credit to Journeys for not forgetting about!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If the above doesn't give you reason to believe (wonder if any longtime Palletshippers will get that reference) then yeah, I don't think you'll be on board with this ship anytime soon. 😉
Which is fine, of course! Palletshipping was my OTP back in the day and I still have a soft spot for it in my shipper heart. If Journeys wants to toss me a Palletshipping moment or two in an upcoming episode, I'll still happily eat it up. 😊
I could see Gary feeling at least a little jealous of Ash and Goh's relationship. They do pretty much everything together and spend almost every minute of every day together. But, Gary being Gary, he would find his own way of expressing that jealousy without making it obvious. I'm sure it would involve tormenting Goh in one way or another. 🤣
While Ash and Gary were indeed rivals going all the way back to even before they got their first Pokémon, we also know they were friends too, doing such things as going to the movies together:
Tumblr media
I think there's at least a part of Gary that wishes he could spend time with Ash. He's a perceptive guy; he can clearly see how much fun Ash and Goh have together, and how happy they are with each other, why wouldn't he want to get in on that?
Hence the reason the ShigeSatoGou/Gary x Ash x Goh ship exists. Well, that and so those of us that support both Palletshipping and Journeyshipping don't have to choose. 😂 Why choose when you can have it all? 😉

Hi! For the fic request thing:
Have you ever thought of writing a shigesatogou fic from Ash's POV? I love the way you write him and i think it would be interesting!
This probably isn't exactly what you were looking for since this isn't quite my usual Ash characterization (aka tired and exasperated 😂) but here ya go anyway.
“Oh, um, I—” Ash flounders, backing away as Whitney tries to wrangle him into a fourth—fifth?—dance. “I should really go now. I need to—”
“Just one more song!” Whitney pleads, not releasing her firm grip on his arms.
“You said that three songs ago,” Ash reminds her, patience running thin. He likes Whitney, don’t get him wrong. She’s a decent trainer and seems nice enough, but he barely had a chance to even congratulate Chloe and Dawn at the start of the reception before he was pulled away in random directions by what felt like half the guest list.
Normally, he’d be fine with it, but it’s almost two hours into the reception and he still hasn’t had a chance to talk to—
“There you are!” A hand slips around his waist, a familiar warmth at his back as Gary leans into him. “Leave it to you to get lost on your way to the bar, Ashy-Boy.” He flashes an easy smile at Whitney. “Sorry, sweetheart. I’m going to need cut in for this next one.”
Whitney stutters out a weak protest as Gary drags Ash further onto the dancefloor, using the arm on Ash’s waist to pull him in close. The song tempo is slow, and Ash rolls his eyes as he places his hands on Gary’s shoulders. “We could have just gone to your table or something, you know. Not that I don’t appreciate the save.”
Gary huffs out a laugh and starts to sway with the music. “Really? You don’t sound like you appreciate it.”
“No, I do,” Ash insists. Gary’s breath ghosts along his cheek, and as much as he hopes Gary doesn’t feel the way he shivers at the sensation, he knows it’s probably a lost cause with how close they are. “She wouldn’t take no for an answer. I thought I was gonna have to make a run for it.”
Gary hums, amusement still coloring his tone. “I have to say, I really questioned her judgement in trying so hard to keep you as a dance partner, but you’re not the disaster I thought you’d be.”
“Is that your way of saying I’m a good dancer?” Ash teases, turning his face into Gary’s neck when he feels his cheeks grow warm. “Your compliments still need work, Gar.”
“Yeah, I guess they do. Who taught you to dance, anyway?”
Ash pulls away a little, startled by the question. “Y—you did.”
He can tell exactly when Gary remembers, the other man's eyes lighting up with delight as he laughs, loud and genuine. Ash almost wants to hide his face again, knows he must look ridiculous and sappy, just like he always does when he can take credit for one of Gary’s rare moments of unvarnished joy.
He’d laughed just like that all those years ago too, despite the fact that Ash had stomped on his feet at least ten times as they twirled around Delias living room.
Ash hadn’t questioned the way his heart had pounded so hard he could barely hear the music over the blood rushing past his ears. He'd chalked it up to his own happiness at Gary wanting to share what he’d learned at the dance classes his grandfather forced him to attend on the weekends. Especially then, only a couple years before they both left on their training journeys, when time with Gary seemed to grow more scarce by the day.
Now that he’s older, though, Ash knows exactly why his whole body sings at the sound of Gary’s laugh—why he feels like the oxygen is sucked from the room when Gary looks at him so unguardedly.
“I’m a good teacher,” Gary comments finally, his expression turning playful as he takes one of Ash’s hands and leads him into a twirl.
“Gary, come on, s—stop,” Ash says, breathless with his own giggling. It takes all of his willpower to not shriek and flail when Gary pulls him in just to dip him backward. “You’re such a show off.”
“All this complaining is making me start to think you don’t want to dance with me.” Gary pretends to look around the sea of faces surrounding them. “I’ll just find Whitney so you guys can pick up where you left off.”
“Mean,” Ash accuses, rolling his eyes again. He’s about to whine a little more for posterity, but his breath catches when he’s suddenly upright again, Gary’s face mere inches from his own.
They’re so close Ash can make out the individual freckles on Gary’s cheeks and the slight gleam of sweat on his forehead. He only has a moment to think how easy it would be to lean up and finally kiss the other man before Gary beats him to it, surging forward to press their lips together.
Ash melts into it, his whole body a clumsy, boneless mess as his fingers creep along the back of Gary’s neck, tangling into the soft hair he finds there.
Gary eases back after a few moments, putting his hands on Ash’s shoulders to hold him still when Ash tries to lean back in to keep the kiss going. “We, uh, have an audience.”
“Wha—?” Ash looks around, the other dancing couples not paying them any attention.
But Gary’s right. Now that his senses aren’t overloading from their kiss, Ash feels the odd, prickling sensation of being watched, but who—
Oh.
He locks eyes with Goh across the reception hall, the younger man giving him a wan smile before turning back to his conversation with Steven Stone.
Ash has to swallow down the sudden lump in his throat before he can speak. “Hey, Gar?”
“Hm?”
“I—I don’t think Goh knows how to dance.” He bites his lip.
“No?”
Ash shakes his head.
Gary raises an eyebrow at him, lips twitching as he tries to suppress a grin. “Well, we should probably teach him then, shouldn’t we?”
Ash grins back. “Yeah, I think we should."
After a beat of silence, Gary adds, his tone wavering a little, "maybe—he doesn't know how to kiss either."
"Maybe not," Ash agrees, excitement making his pulse spike. "We should check."
Gary nods solemnly. "With our mouths."
"God, I love you," Ash blurts.
He doesn't get the chance to fret over the unintended confession, Gary threading their fingers together to drag him toward Goh's table, his cheeks dusted with pink as he mutters, "me too, Ashy. Me too."

I think I already know who "and then there were three" is about but I'm still curious. Also "aim to be a dragon master"!
I disagree I don't think you know who the three are at all because that's actually a Yo-kai Watch fic! Probably not that interesting oop, you missed all 4 shigesatogou wips in there I'm sorry :')
Basically tho the thing is Yo-kai Watch has 3 main protagonists, Nate, Katie and Hailey. Except that Katie sort of... disappears after Hailey gets introduced? (Hailey disappears later on as well but that is a different tangent)
Katie is not a playable character anymore in the 3rd game and she was never in the main cast of the anime, she got pretty much disregarded and only ever used for alternate universe stories. She doesn't have a Yo-kai Watch in the main timeline at all.
I never liked that so and then they were three is about bringing her back into the spotlight and the trio forming an actual trio after a lot of "oh god a person I've known most of my life is gonna inevitably find out my biggest secret that is not very normal™ what do I do" from Nates perspective
I think something like this does actually happen in the 4th game? Idk I never played it, it didn't get localized but eh it would still work in the anime canon so whatever
I haven't worked on this story in ages since my ykw brainrot pretty died out for the most part, it was like... last year oof, I'm only like 70% done with the first chapter of the 3 I had planned, they all would've been from a different characters perspective
I kinda doubt anyone here cares all that much but here's still a snippet of it!
"Oh right, didn't you say you were going camping with your dad?"
The voice belonged to Alex, the girl seated on Katies left.
Katie turned towards her and nodded. "Yeah. To be honest I'm not looking forward to it much, but dad insisted he wanted to spend some 'quality father-daughter bonding time' with me." She pronounced the last part of the sentence by doing air quotation marks with both of her hands.
Yet another person cut themselves into the conversation. "You're not going to camp at Mount Wildwood, are you?" Zoey, this time, the girl seated on her right.
Katie turned around again, this time in the opposite direction. "Huh, yeah, why? It's the closest forest we have around."
"But Mount Wildwood has been haunted lately! There have been a lot of scary reports online."
That was Lina. Katie wasn't even sure where she had come from, her seat is at the opposite side of the room and she hadn't seen the girl walk up to them, but then again Zoey and her seemed to be attached by the hip.
Other people probably would have been freaked out by this statement, but after years of knowing them Katie had become adjusted to Zoeys and Linas stories.
Though Katie WAS starting to get irritated by half of their class listening in and suddenly being so invested in their conversation, but she wasn't going to point it out.
So instead she smiled. "Don't worry about it, I'll be careful. No ghosts, Yo-kai or other supernaturals will get in my way."
Alex raised an eyebrow, the other two girls couldn't seem prouder.
Her eyes met Nates again, with all of the other people around Katie had almost forgotten he was the one she was talking to originally.
Nate had an uncomfortable expression on his face, and Katie had to surpress a snort that was threatening to escape her.
She remembers how freaked out he has been in the past by ghost-talk. He may have changed a lot, but it seemed like old habits die hard.

Aim to be a Dragon Master is about Iris! Is that a surprise based on the title lol?
Since we never really learn how she became champion this fic takes place right after her special and goes up to right before her first appearance in journeys.
She travels through Johto collecting badges then entering the league... where she loses against like Ethan or smth idk oops. After Cilan giving her a pep talk she then goes and does the same in Unova where she doesn't lose since she's learned a lot, has an awesome moment with Drayden and ends up beating Alder whoo!
Then I realized how long that would take even with how much I was going to skip around and... yeah...
Iris smirked. "Now use Ice Beam!"
Clair gasped. "Druddigon jump!"
It did, but Dragonite was quick to adjust and aimed higher up.
Silence filled the room as the smoke slowly cleared.
Both competitors were holding their breath.
Druddigon was on the ground, ice on its wings, eyes closed.
"Druddigon is unable to battle! The winner is challanger Iris!", the announcer stated, raising up the respective flags as she did so.
Overfilled with joy Iris ran onto the battlefield towards her Pokemon. "We did it! Dragonite, we did it! You're the best!"
Dragonite had to be overtaken by emotion as well, as he didn't even try to shove his trainer away as she hugged him.
In the distance Iris could hear Clair thanking and recalling her Pokemon, but she couldn't bring herself to care enough to watch or listen to exactly what she was doing.
She only broke the hug when she noticed Clair standing next to them.
"I feel like I should be upset about losing, but honestly... I'm proud that you finally managed to beat me. I know you worked hard, this was a great battle."
Clair reached out her hand, Iris took it with a grin and shook it. Only when Clair pulled away did Iris notice the other had given something to her.
She stared at the item in her hand in confusion. "Is that...", she started.
"The Rising Badge!", Clair finished. "Congratulations on your win, Iris."
Iris frowned at the badge, then looked up to frown at Clair. "I wasn't trying to get your badge.", she explained.
Now it was Clairs turn to look confused. "Really? You were so insistent on beating me, I'd assumed you had a bigger reason than just wanting to fight dragon Pokemon."
Iris resisted blushing. Her motivation had been exactly that, plus some dedication and stubborness, but she wasn't going to say that out loud.
"If you don't want it, I'll take it back."
On a childish impulse Iris closed her hand around the badge, moved it closer to her body and took a step back.
"Uh uh, you gave it to me, it's mine now, no take backs."
Clair let out the trademark laugh that Iris had come to associate with the woman.
"That's what I thought."
Iris' cheeks did flush a bit, this time.
"Thanks...", she managed to get out.
Clair nodded in acknowledgement.
They exited the Gym together, and then Clair asked a very loaded question.
"What're you going to do now?"
Iris contemplated her response for a moment. What was she going to do?
"I... hadn't really thought about it.", she started carefully. "I wasn't actually expecting to defeat you today."
In the corner of her eye she caught the badge that she was still holding in her hand. "But", she picked up again before Clair could comment, "if I already have one badge, I figured I could enter the Johto league."
💜
I don't think this was what you asked for at all haha but maybe it's still interesting
Will I ever continue these? Only time can tell.

(Gary anon) *I guess we will see soon. (What's done is done, can't change that. No matter what fan rewrites say :P) It's not something I wanted either from reasons ranging from "how do you make researching a rivalry; especially when one party shows no [current] interest in catching the main adjective" to "do you know how hard you'd have to set back Gary 'the overachiever' to make Goh 'I only battle when necessary and isn't as adventure-savvy' looks believable".
.
(Part 2) And then what happened with Bea and Marnie, plus how stretched out the missions were made me more concerned on that front. The mentoring could have done without the half-baked tension; and have a different aura to it. (Heh, this is what happens when you have a plot that seems a meal that didn't know what flavor it wanted to be) So some news came to us today, with a possible atom bomb being dropped either tomorrow or next week on the state of the anime's future:
(Part 3) 1. This is pending, but we may finally have revealed episode titles. *2. An article from one of the staff at TV Tokyo confirmed that "Ash's adventures are continuing"; note, although it points to it, no word on him going to Paldea yet. Quote: "As to how the adventures will go, we want to make an announcement during the next anime broadcast". So this could mean anything from weekly series, a seasonal one, specials or movies.
(Part 4) Saw the episode: My feelings remain unchanged and I don't think subs will sway it. This needed an extra episode, maybe a bit more tension buildup. Goh and Mew, went as I expected but metaphorically. Will say it was funny to see Gary do that to 'Groudon', confirming he would throw himself at a legend if it came to it. I think the 3 decline to join team. And we can probably kiss that Ash/Gary meetup goodbye. (Next episode may cause some emotions, also still no word on SV, or JN's end?)
Yeah, I suppose so.
Alas, it can't be helped.
Yeah. Generally speaking, rivals should be about evenly matched for it to be believable as a rivalry, and that is simply... not the case for them. And their goals don't even really conflict with each other. But there's something really funny to me about the "antagonistic coworkers" vibe, especially how a lot of Shigegou (and Shigesatogou) fanfic took that and ran with it.
Good news! I'm not exactly surprised Ash's adventures are continuing, but I am pleased to hear it.
Full disclosure, I once again forgot there would be an episode today until I opened Tumblr and saw the notification for your message. I apparently am only ever vaguely aware of what day of the week it is.
Definitely could've used another episode, yeah. But man, that had to be one of the best Gary moments of all time. He threw water in a legendary's face! Powerful. RIP to the Gary/Ash interaction though :(
Yeah, I saw the preview and it sure looks like it'll be a time. I guess we'll see where things go from here.

what's ur pkmn ships headcanons? or just pkmn character hcs in general
after the project mew expidition ended, i think shigetokigou would all decide to come back for the next one after a lot of consideration. they'd keep in touch after it, and gary / goh would go on to be romantically involved w/ ash while tokio would remain happily single ( for the time being ).
chloe would eventually decide to research more about pokémon without her dad assigning her on missions, and would start going to alola more often, gladion would take over lusamine as president of the aether foundation but later give up the spot to lillie. chloe would frequent the foundation a lot.
i hc that gladion and kiawe would keep their rivalry while ash isn't around. while kiawe is still aiming to be the akala island kahuna, gladion ends up as one of the first members of the alola league's elite four, but he'd start being interested in contests as well.
a lot of the coordinators would end up meeting each other as well, chloe also ending up getting wrapped into their meetings. serena, lisia, and may would be the closest, and may would eventually join their contest duo to make it a trio. lillie and lana would try contests once they ever started coming to alola, and they'd force make gladion finally do it as well. dawn would soon win a grand festival ( please ) and chloe would be cheering front row.
clemont and sophocles would end up becoming pretty close, and would somehow find themselves in sunyshore city, all the way in sinnoh. yeah, they'd try to get flint and volkner together, but the exact same thing would happen to them in reverse. they'd probably be interested in other people, though.
that's most i can think of off the top of my head asdfghjkl i mostly headcanon shigesatogou, semifinalshipping, kohasere / kohahika and everyone else is always different

shigesatogou in paldea .
ash would take on victory road with fuecoco, gary would try to face the titans with a sprigatito at his side, and goh would challenge the bosses of team star along with a quaxly.
nemona and ash would get along pretty well, since they’re pretty similar. old champions looking for a new journey. and, tbh, i don’t think ash would use pikachu a lot in battle. he wants a challenge, and my god, is that pikachu overpowered. he wants to start a new journey, do different things. i feel like he’d be good friends with iono, and maybe even rika, cause i hc her and rinto as siblings.
gary would probably give arven a bit of a hard time at first. he’d act like arven only wanted him there while fighting the titans because the former ‘wasn’t good enough’, just because he’d want arven to improve. but that’s just normal gary. he’d slowly gain more respect for arven after learning more of his story, seeing why he acts the way he does to both people and pokémon.
goh would get along with penny and the star bosses. while he wasn’t in an exactly similar situation, he was an outcast who couldn’t ─ well, didn’t really want to ─ make friends. i think he’d get along best with atticus or eri, and would try to talk to penny more than the game’s story requires you to. he’d have a bit of a tough time with the star bases, especially alone, but it’d be a good challenge.
ash would have koraidon ─ because, yknow, he’s ash ─ and gary would have miraidon for the sake of the path of legends story. and because i love goh and i feel guilty, he can find the other legendaries. maybe not all of them, but like, one.
i don’t know what their other team members would be, but i really want gary to have a gallade. i’m gonna mention this so much, but i really want him to get a gallade. goh with ceruledge and ash with armarouge, yeah.
i’d love to see them traveling through the paldea region, because it’d be a new challenge for each of them. ash’s isn’t really a ‘new challenge’ since he’s been in a league before, but this would be a new beginning. goh would learn how to work with others but also not always have others shield him from danger. gary would both continue research and battling, and explore things he didn’t even know existed.

shigesatogou journeying thru the paldea region would be like . .
if gary ever became a research fellow at the cerise lab ( and satogou never left ), i feel like they’d end up going to paldea tbh! bcuz, one, this is pkmn, they gotta get to the next region, and two, it fits with the general story of journeys. they go to diff regions on assignments to explore and do research. 3 starters, 3 plot lines, 3 boyfriendz. yeah.
