ive definitely said this before but i think there's this common (and understandable!!) misconception that goh is canonically a victim of bullying and tbh i thought the same thing when jn was still airing lol but now that i have gone back and obsessively rewatched every episode a million times i think it's a lot more interesting to consider what the anime shows us, which is...not a kid who is bullied, but a kid who simply has no friends. and it doesn't seem to be a matter of, like, other kids not liking him. even in the very first episode, we see chloe's classmates asking her about him. it's a very casual "oh yeah, he never really comes to school, does he?" like they don't even really think about him that much. but they say his name respectfully, and just seem mildly curious about it. not really like...mocking or anything like that.

i mean, his whole "i don't need friends" attitude when they're younger could stem from bullying. that's completely possible. but the anime never really goes out of its way to make us think that? like...his disengagement in the flashback in the drizzile evolution episode emphasizes that he's refusing to play with his classmates - and that he doesn't even know why. if he were being bullied by them...wouldn't he have been able to at least articulate that he doesn't like them or that they don't treat him well or that they're just no fun to play with? like i won't say that some bullied kids aren't really unwilling to talk about the experience of being bullied...but in hindsight, they usually have a solid idea of what was going on.

in goh's case, i think he's just like...maintaining what he knows, which is the experience of being isolated and alone. he takes control of that feeling by saying he doesn't need - or even want - friends. he's still doing that when he tells ash that he "accepts" him as his friend, as opposed to just...being like, nice to meet you :) and moving on. he needs to be the one who has that say (and in this respect, his whole w-well would you maybe...consider being MY friend too...?? in jn003 is actually kind of...sweet? and indicative of the change that ash has already begun to motivate in him! doubly so considering ash's response is "wait but weren't we friends already?" bc ash is someone who like...doesn't need that verbalization, and doesn't consider friendships as things you "give" and "take" or whatever. they just are!!!).

ANYWAY, all this to say like. i see where the idea comes from, because he does have those little "you're just like everybody else" lines and whatever, and like...his whole thing with horace - his awkwardness in social interactions, like this. overcompensation for something, this need to prove how Smart and Impressive he is (and his fear of being seen as stupid, like in the horace ep when he's like "oh haha...well...you tell me what you know about celebi first. obviously i know this stuff already. i'm just testing you" when he obviously doesn't know it). but to me that's like...a projection, if anything. he's so determined not to acknowledge that his parents' absence has made him lonely, has affected him in any way, that he twists himself into believing the reason he doesn't get along with others isn't because he's too used to being alone to deal with having friends...it's because they're not worth his time, or they're not good enough for him, or they're just going to hurt him anyway. something something pokemon journeys if goh had learned some dbt techniques

Tubbo should also get to eat pieces of Fit. Pac proved himself, and Tubbo never asked him but... Fit feels the need to anyway! He wants to show his British Boyfriend that he cares!

So he sits Tubbo down and has Pac there for him, just like he was there for Pac.

Tubbo asks where he wants to be cut and Fit loves danger so he says his chest. If he wants to show Tubbo he really cares, he figures he should go all the way. Let him close to his heart.

Tubbo is perched above him with the blade held like it's a ritual dagger. Fit's shirt off and his head resting on Pac's legs for comfort and reassurance, Pac stroking the sides of his head to keep him calm. Because this isn't just *a* gesture of trust. To Fit this is *the* biggest gesture of trust he can possibly give to Tubbo. (Besides telling him about Madagio. But... Fit figures Pac and Ramon were flukes. Tubbo would hate him for sure.)

Tubbo cuts into his pec and slices carefully, making sure it doesn't go deep enough to cut through his ribs, to nick his lungs and stop his heart.

Fit is breathing fast, but Pac puts a gentle hand on his chest and forces him to breathe slowly.

Tubbo eats the chunk of flesh as Fit stares at him with more love and trust than Tubbo ever could've believed someone would give him. Blood pools out and falls from the corner of his mouth, and Pac leans forward and wipes it away. As if to show him it's all alright. That everything will be okay.

Tubbo swallows the meat feeling higher than he's ever been.

okay there's some instances (yes im saying this 💀) where even i think goh went a bit too far like even though i think it's sick he caught suicune i do get why people were so mad about it? but cmon that was a bit too much hate 😭

Ash hadn't caught any legendaries his entire journey so yeah Goh catching suicune at the early-ish start of his journey was....just a bit like oh ok wow even for me lmao but yk that topic will probably never calm down lets be honest

Then there's him just catching every pokemon without battling, that I also get why ppl are mad because I was rewatching the unova anime a few days ago and a lot of the episodes had an emphasis onbattling before catching, and you can say that goes for the rest of the pokemon anime after that too...up until journeys 😂

Goh is a bit of a rulebreaker in that instance, i get that, but if people hate him taking so much screentime for Ash

(heads up the episode where goh goes on vacation and meets tokio again is the 1st episode in the anime history without any scene of Ash in it at ALL which is pretty crazy)

then I'm sure we wouldn't want to see Goh battle e v e r y single pokemon he catches, like his goal is literally to catchem all as well BUT BUT THEN AGAIN, that arguement is pretty weak i guess, and i understand why people would be mad, but I really dont like when they genuinely just hate him excessively 😭😭

As a faithful Palletshipper who regularly uses AO3, I am so unbelievably heartbroken and disappointed that there are twice as less fanfictions of Ash x Gary than there are of Journeyshipping. Idk why, maybe because Journeyshipping was new and so interesting at the time that there was probably a boom of Ash x Goh fanfics. It also makes me kinda sad knowing that some former Palletshippers no doubt fell out of it in favor of Journeyshipping (I say this cuz I've encountered one), but I guess it's just me being petty. Idk, I guess it really bummed me out considering Gary was Ash's very first best friend (before Pikachu) and rival, therefore I thought there'd at least be more fanfics of them on AO3. No hate or disrespect against Journeyshipping or any other relationships Ash gets paired up with, but when I read a recent Palletshipping fanfic and checked the tag, it shocked me wayyy more than it should have.

Anyway, thanks for hearing me vent like a pathetic little brat who didn't get their way. I just wanted to let it out before I combusted.

for the common fandom opinion that everybody is wrong about, idk if it is a fandom ipion per say but can i just get it out of my chest: rewatching xy especially for my au has really cemented for me the idea that alain shouldn't have stuck with being a battle trainer ESPECIALLY in JN. how did everyone including the writers misunderstand my man here?? he was never a battler in the first place; he was only on that path to get enough strength to protect the ones he loved. and it was lysandre that lured him there, that made that want into something violent and destructive (if only the anime could've shown it a bit more... not enough villain for this guy heh). in the end of xy we clearly see him step away from that obsessive need and decide that he's going to go his own way, treasure the time he has now rather than idk gatekeep himself and go off for ages trying to attain an imperfect perfection of strength, and we see in that slideshow thing at the credits that he's off researching again JUST AS HE STARTED. he started on his journey orginally for research, to help sycamore. i just... idk why people assume that he would still want to 'be the best' when a) he's already proven it in the kalos league b) and what did that bring him?? c) when given a new perspective in the end, to keep the mega ring and keep on his journey, he instead stays back to reconnect and decides to start anew, gain his own mega ring (in which WHY DID JN GIVE HIM THE SAME ONE????) and just chill out. it's such a great lesson to not fixate on what could happen and live in the now with what you got, because you can never prepare for the worst and even if you have, how much time have you lost? what is strength to you? anyways free my man alain he should've never been in the masters 8, we could've used that space for literally anyone else instead (yes, even that tobias guy).

the unpopular character you like (and why more people should like them).... hmm idk i think everyone is hated to a degree, gotta search up... ig easiest option is goh??? JN thoughts rn ik, but how on earth does one guy get so much hate?? bigotry aside, i feel like goh is such a refreshing change for the end, a character who has dreams just as big as ash does and the stubborn will to go for it. to catch them all, juxtapositioning against to beat them all. a lifelong journey. ups and downs just like everyone else. like, for one you can't say that he has less involvement like previous companions (especially considering the last few series), and his episodes, like the region before it, are much more down to earth and linked to his emotional maturation as well. his growth in the series is amazing for what the series was (largely episodic), the relationship he has with ash is amazing (ash being in a mentor position but with actual experience and maturity to back it up, besties who understand each other, stubborn allies who won't budge on their ideals), and while we don't get to see much of his pokemon interactions the ones we do see are so, so good. his trust in suicune. him growing with scorbunny. him teaching grookey, and believing in sobble. there's probably a lot more i'm missing but having a male companion, let alone a companion in and of itself, get this much screentime and development is pretty rare in the anime itself, i would say even in horizons we don't get as much, and so while i can say that JN was a very messy sort of season, its episodic nature really lent itself well to goh, who is the kind of guy who wouldn't grow except if placed in many small different scenarios that builds up his character.

I find that it's way easier to sustain longfic with a partner. We go back and forth writing a paragraph or two, then handing it over again. Nobody is in charge of specific characters, both partners can just do whatever they want (with communication, ofc).

17) What are your writing weaknesses?: Smut and fight sequences. Anything where it's primarily description of 2+ bodies doing extremely important and physically precise interaction. Yeesh! Yuck. It's hard.

18) Thoughts on dialogue in another language?: Speaking as a reader, my first preference is that a fic be all in one language, regardless of what that language is. After that, I like when there are entire chunks in another language. My least favorite type is when the whole fic is one language, but then inexplicably there's only a few words, or just random very simple sentences in another language. If the characters themselves very naturally go from language to another in their canon everyday life and it's a characterization choice, then I'm sometimes into it, but again I prefer it if it's done realistically, i.e. it's not all just one language with only swear words or only basic words thrown in of the other language, but rather reflects how bi- or multilingual people really go in and out of different languages with each other (like my aunts and grandmother, for example). As a writer, I don't envision myself mixing languages in a fic unless it's for a very specific reason. I've done an all-Spanish ficlet, but I doubt it was good. I particularly admire people who regularly publish in languages other than English and Mandarin, and I wish I could support them via commenting more, but I'm just not properly fluent.

19) First fandom you wrote in?: A Jason Bourne x East Indian original female character fic in a composition book as a child, never shared with anyone. My OFC wore purple a lot and their meetcute was her spying on him and then having to save his life when he almost choked to death on a chicken bone.

Oblivion (Never Been A Better Reason) I love because I feel I was able to sublimate my feelings and experiences during that time into a work of art. Some Thoughts on Gary and Goh

Journeys isn't my favorite season as a whole... But my opinion of it softened a lot once it was revealed that it would officially be Ash's farewell season. (Traveling from region to region was cool in theory but made for a really disjointed experience in practice, and it meant the new region really got the short end of the stick, as it was barely explored. But giving us a chance to catch back up with nearly all his past travel companions right before we say goodbye was a nostalgic feeling.)

Anyway, this post isn't a full Journeys review or anything. I've just felt more poignantly lately how much I wish the franchise was more of a continuous experience. For older characters to have come back more often than an episode or two a series.

I just rewatched the episode where Goh meets Gary. And this time around, I was struck by what a really great friend Gary makes for Goh. And not just in the sense that they continue to push each other in pursuit of their dreams. (I've said before how Journeys really isn't Ash's story anymore; that it feels like he's been eclipsed as the main character. But I didn't appreciate until just now that Goh's even stolen his old rival...)

Goh can definitely be a little annoying at times, but I do feel like he's one of the best characters Pokemon has ever created. They've painted a really clear picture of his past and what made him who he is today, something kind of rare for Pokemon characters.

I can totally see how he struggled to learn social skills and connect with others, raised by parents who were too busy with work to spend much time with him and a grandmother who clearly loves him... but already put in her time as a parent and is ready to have her own life again. I feel like that flows really naturally into him being that know-it-all kind of kid who clings to the research he does in place of making friends. Which is why it's so satisfying to see Ash win him over, see him open up to his first real friend... And why it's a little sad every time he's visibly jealous of how close Ash is with is mother, how standoffish and defensive he gets when he meets the friends who've known Ash longer.

Another character who I feel does have that kind of depth-- but has never gotten to be quite so front and center about it-- is Gary. Gary maturing over time... isn't just one moment, of course, but it feels like an iconic 'moment' in the franchise for me. With him too, I can see how he went from being the arrogant, pampered grandson of this world-renowned professor-- THE world-renowned professor at the time he was created-- to someone who got that arrogance beat back a bit once he actually went out and saw the world for himself. Gary had fans but not friends. I hate that it seems to have all been off-screen, but he also had to learn how to connect with others. He's grown so much over the years that I feel like he and Goh really do make a great pair.

Gash (Ash x Goh) Episode 1: What happened?

Ok, so… As we all know, in Pokemon Ultimate Journeys: The Series, episode 42, part 3, Ash and Goh split ways at the end of the episode. And then we see all this BS (not really but yk) of what happens after that. But in this fanfic, we're gonna pretend it doesn't exist. BTW, the time of the goodbyes was March 2023. Anyways, we’re telling the story with a perspective that switches every episode between Ash and Goh. So, with that said and done, let’s get into it.

September 2030

I HATED today! I got sent on a mission with Avery! I don’t like missions with Avery, the whole time she goes on and on about literally everything. Then, we end up failing the mission because she keeps BOTH of us distracted. Other than that, it was a pretty normal day.

You know, I’ve been thinking a lot and I kinda regret leaving Ash. I mean, we had to. We were going separate ways but I just feel kinda lonely. Ever since I was recruited on this team, I just feel like the bad guy. I know it’s better than living on the streets and I get paid really good, but it just feels wrong. I can’t live with myself right now. And it sucks even more since I got a mission that was basically all about Ash, and me and Avery failed it. Just like everyone else who has tried this mission over and over.

Even worse, I think Ash saw me. While I was talking about the plan with Avery(she wasn’t listening), he glimpsed behind the bush of which we were standing behind and peeked for 2 seconds before going back to talking to the people at the bench he was on. That’s really bad. I don’t want him to see me, especially after not talking for 7 years. And I have to wear this stupid uniform! I look so bad in it. It just doesn’t suit me. Hope I can get away with not wearing it on my next mission tomorrow. I’m so very happy It’s a solo one. I can not stand another second with Avery.

Hm im actually an amourshipper. Its my otp from like 10 at least. Or whenever i first watched xy or xyz. When it came out. I don’t remember. But im also a multishipper so like i dont really dislike other ships in fact i find goh and ash very cute. And gary. I despise pokeshipping tho. Last on my list. Absolutely no. I just hate it idk why. I didnt even hate it because of other people i just hated it when i knew it existed?? Or ash and iris thats my second most dislike. Cause i like may and dawn a lot and theyre cool i like their ships with ash but now to me they suit the rivals/male alternates better. I still like them tho. Theyre cool. Its a youtubers i watched like maybe 7 years ago’s real name and a certain day like 4 years ago i just suddenly remembered that person and i was like yeah kyles a cool name and that stuck as my name until now. Id say its my real name. Link or kyle are both cool. Some of my real life friends call me kyle so thats the diff i guess. I dont have online friends tho the ones i am friends with probably call me nai. Nai is. Eh. I dont mind it. Its my name. Its a name i used to like know a lot of online friends i have. So thats my name to them. I dont mind people i know now that dont know why im nai call me nai. Also by real life friends i only consider id say 5 as friends and only 1-2 call me kyle. 1 I explicitly told them call me kyle if she could and the other is just sometimes when we chat because i have it as my user on some places. Not specifically for group chats tho like just as referencing to me. Sometimes i guess. Yeah tbh id consider kyle my real life name if i could. If i had to introduce myself with none of my family nearby or when my id name is outright there or whatever id say im kyle. I havent gotten a chance to do so tho. I dont really care i guess. moltres just being there makes sense. in the games, a lot of mythicals are just. there. but i understand what you mean because the logic's honestly a bit wonky

i dont understand why seeing rayquaza already devalues chasing it. seeing it for the first time gives it mystery and gives roy a good goal. also, i doubt that he'll catch it. the lore doesn't look like it will lead up to it, and if he does, it's probably gonna be well-deserved since it's literally his goal for the entire series.

Like rayquaza, the teragapos is for the mystery and i doubt even more that liko will catch it. finding more about her pendant seems to be on the backburner of liko's mind unlike roy who's been taking every chance to find rayquaza.

i do completely understand your worry about the oversaturation of legendaries. it's honestly concerning me too especially with the whole goh and suicune thing (tbf they didnt outright give him suicune since suicune just used the pokeball to escape the hunters but like- still)

as for the progression of pokemon horizons compared to the original pokemon anime, i dont understand why ash getting bullied by an abra is better if that's what you're arguing... by that point ash is wandering around with a vague goal meanwhile roy has a clear goal snd liko is in the process of figuring hers out (not saying ash was not a good character ofc hes amazing but its just so infuriating and disheartening seeing people immediately hating on roy and especially liko for not being the same so i probably got off track whoops)

so basically i dont think that liko and roy will be getting free legendaries since they look too important for the lore to be like that. while i feel the placement of the legendaries to where they are in the main story is justified, but i would definitely appreciate some more time between the legendary reveals because of the whole motion sickness thing you mentioned.

That Rayquaza will probably end up in the hands of a main character

The main character has a Teragapos in a magic pendant

That Teregapos may become her Pokemon later, officially or temporarily

At least three legendaries have appeared so far

The original anime's legendary count by this point was one (Ho-Oh)

Said legendary did not even notice Ash

Ash spent his Ep. 22 getting his ass kicked by an Abra

I know there are more legendary Pokemon now, but that doesn't justify all the legendaries appearing almost like regular mons. Sun/Moon and Journeys did this too, and it was just as dumb there (free Melmetal and Suicune?). But Horizons did it so fast that it gives me motion sickness.

if gary ever became a research fellow at the cerise lab ( and satogou never left ), i feel like they’d end up going to paldea tbh! bcuz, one, this is pkmn, they gotta get to the next region, and two, it fits with the general story of journeys. they go to diff regions on assignments to explore and do research. 3 starters, 3 plot lines, 3 boyfriendz. yeah.

OH MY GODS OH GODSS aaww- there's so much I wanna saaayyy aaawwww first- gotta be annoying feeling like its the truman show, they know their life is out there for everyone to see and cant do anything- WE cant do anything anymore.. I relate so hard AAAA fourth - IDK who drew it- but someone guessed that Luanr wanted to go back to space AND MY DUDES- YOU SEE THE FUTURE oh gohs- that was hard to hear but- honestly- Lunar cant get a rest! he's tied up to a forever fear of being hurt again- because ppl just cant stay death.. and is interesting- I Lunar would eventually push N.E away. because.. sadly, He is an Eclipse variant, of course is hard to Lunar to even face him. and I do see N.E getting it, he know this! but when I hear him talking- I could see someone who is broken, who wish to be usefull, to the second person to even dare to be nice to him , only to be pushed away.. I cant imagine what N.E feels right now, he's in a place where everyone is warry of him. he must listen about the other Eclipse, what he did- and prove himself day to day-AGAIN- that he is good , that he is helpfull.. I feel for N.E- of course-hes my man- and I feel for Lunar, who needs help- but cant accept it - and I relate to that.. gosh.. anyways- good ep! everyone in the shows are soo soo good!! despite my dislike on the thing they do, I cant ever say they suck at this no- THEY ARE AMAZING

Soo today’s episode of Lunar and Earth was good, Earth didn’t make much of an appearance just like 4-4:30 minutes and Nice Eclipse talking to Lunar asking how he was feeling after Bloodmoon broke his arm is just wholesome I love it so much

I- I still dont like her- BUT! I will admit, she is slowly becoming better- she is winning her place in the family, I wish she had to work for her tittle like Lunar did, because this way, she could be in fact, a good sister.. with many flaws yes- but sister cant be perfect..
