Just had another Jimmy thought...
If Curly had a daughter he would definitely introduce Jimmy as an uncle of sorts... Cutting it short once shes of age Uncle Jimmy about to get a whole lot creepier.
First he pulls you on his lap while He and your dad Curly are watching football or something, and you feel something but you dont say anything... but your dad needed to run to the store to grab some more beer. -Cupcake anon
Your own age.
Uncle! Jimmy x Curly's Daughter! Reader.
warnings: age gap(reader is an adult),toxic relationship themes, jimmy is a major creep, non-consensual touching. curly is an oblivious single father.
a/n; cupcake anon, you're a fucking genius. love you for sharing this prompt with me,hope I was able to do it justice!
It wasn't fun being a well respected captain's daughter. Especially after your mom left, your dad would leave for shipments for months on end,and you had to spend a good chunk of your childhood with nannies rather than your parents.
But that was when he came along,Jimmy... Or Jim,as your dad would call him. He was your dad's closest friend since childhood, and now he was gonna be... Living with the two of you? Your dad said that it was due to the shortage of leases on the market currently, but you know damn well it was because that jimmy person was just a broke guy.
"hey,so you're the daughter I keep hearing my friend talk about, huh?".
"uh yeah,my name is y/n".
"y/n huh? well that's a pretty name for a pretty little girl".
you did think it was strange as to how,Jimmy... or well, uncle jimmy as your dad advised you to call him, was so Frank and open minded with you,but you realised that's just how men in his situation were. Open-minded,and careless.
Uncle jimmy... was an interesting man to say the least, you hadn't really had the luck of having any fun 'relatives' for that matter so you thought this was the best as it was gonna get. Jimmy would offer you cigarettes. Something that your father had clearly mentioned in front of him was off limits for you.
"C'mon aren't you a big girl now? some rules are meant to be broken y'know?
"but dad would kill me if he ever found out..."
"it's alright,it will be our little secret".
All in all you started warming up to him,you thought that hey, this guy is already down on his luck, and he's also so fun to be around! wouldn't hurt to be friendly with him.
It didn't matter how unnecessarily long his hugs were,or how suffocating they were. he would always hug you so tight that you had to physically wriggle your way out of his grasp. on some occasions you could've sworn you heard him say something under his breath.
It didn't matter how he would stare at you for long periods of time if the two of you were in the same room, you thought maybe it's just a middle aged man thing
It didn't matter how during road trips,he would sit in the backseat beside you instead of sitting beside his best friend in the front. How somehow his hands would always find it's way to be on your thigh.
He was a fun guy after all! He lets you drink, smoke, and sneak out. Do all the things which your dad would have crucified you for.
Seeing both of you so close would have your dad asking you—
"wow you sure are having fun with uncle jimmy, huh? you guys seem to be close".
"yeah he's so cool! it's super fun to be around him".
"fun huh? Well im hoping it's a good kind of fun, honey".
But curly shouldn't be worried! His best friend was just taking care of his daughter... Right? He wouldn't do anything,wrong... Right? That much faith curly should have in his best friend... Should he not?
Your dad and uncle had a habit of watching football games during weekend nights, and you decided to join them one such night.
While watching the game, jimmy suddenly turned to you,and said.
'oi y/n, c'mere and sit" as he motioned towards his lap,he turned towards curly and said. "For old times sake,eh? You remember how I used to carry ya around? I'm feelin nostalgic".
Curly was already feeling tipsy from the 3rd pint of beer he was chugging,so he just laughter and said "haha, you guys are so adorable!".
Albeit,a strange request, you decided to do as your uncle asked anyway, and you went to him and plopped on his lap. No matter his lanky figure,he was still strong enough to carry your weight. So he had no problem in adjusting himself to have you sir on his lap while still getting a comfortable view of the ongoing game.
everybody was focusing on the game, but you, your focus was on something else entirely, all the while you were sitting on his lap, you could feel Jimmy's hot breath on your shoulder, how his left hand was rested at your side, firmly placing a grip, you could feel his heart beating, and you don't know what got over you,but you decided to do something risky, somthing vulgar which you hadn't even properly processed in your mind.
You grinded against him just a little, and that was enough to get his heart beating 10 times faster, you could practically feel his breath hitch, and him letting out the quietest groan. And you felt something hard between you legs, you realised that you had just gotten him rock hard. you felt accomplished for some reason. But that's when your dad decided to drop off the bomb.
"wait, fuck we're out of beer, jimmy look after y/n while I make a quick trip to the store to get few more".
"you got it boss".
You knew that it was wraps the moment your dad walked out the front door and closed it behind him. You blinked and suddenly you were pinned down onto the sofa, your uncle had both your hands pressed firmly above your head,he stared at you like a wild animal on the prowl, hunting its prey.
"damn,I didn't know that you were so dirty, grinding against me like that, you know how 'fuckin hard it was for me to keep from moaning?,you deserve to get punished for it don't you think?".
• you intently stared him,not knowing what to do,excited yet scared of what he was going to do next.
And then without a warning,he smashed his lips against yours, into a rough, messy, hungry kiss. he tasted like liquor with a hint of cigarettes, the cheap brand which he smokes all the time. His tongue was wildly exploring every inch of your mouth, he felt like an animal in heat.
then in between the kiss he said, "you don't know how long I've been wanting to do this, kid".
you already knew that this was going to be quick as your dad would be back from the store in no time, but you also knew, that this was the beginning of something, very long, something very vulgar. and even though it might be wrong, you felt eager, you felt excited. you were looking forward to whatever was going to happen next.

🔮 The Fool’s Journey (Into Trouble) 🔮 | Ch. 2

Lilia Calderu x fem!reader
summary: Y/N makes a questionable purchase, endures an evening of coven induced chaos, and shares an unexpectedly nice breakfast.
wc: 8.5k (Chapter 2/?)
a/n: i'm not entirely happy with this chap, but ngl i have way too much fun writing the coven, I’m sorry. The first half of this chapter is definitely coven heavy (because they’re chaotic and I love them), but don’t worry, towards the end is all about Lilia. again this one’s super dialogue heavy, which i'm not used to but honestly, I couldn’t bring myself to cut any of it without hating myself. Just a quick heads-up, there’s no smut yet, but this chapter does lean into some more mature themes
Ch. 1 ch.3
also on ao3
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………
A week had passed since the Great Flirting Incident, and while Lilia hadn’t exactly acknowledged anything outright, I could tell something had shifted. She was watching me more closely now, little glances when she thought I wasn’t looking, the occasional pause before she called me baby like she was testing the waters. But she hadn’t made a move, and if I was being honest, I wasn’t sure she ever would.
So, naturally, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
It started with a simple realisation: Lilia Calderu was a woman stuck in another century. She still used a landline, still read newspapers, and still had absolutely no concept of modern convenience. I mean, she handwrites every single appointment into an actual paper planner. Who even does that anymore?
At first, it was just a passing thought, how much easier things would be for her if she had a smartphone. But the more I thought about it, the more it felt like the perfect excuse to do something nice for her. Something that wasn’t just flirting but actually, you know, helpful.
Which is why I found myself standing in the phone store, staring at a sleek smartphone display, wondering if I was about to change her life or ruin mine.
By the following morning, Lilia was perched at the counter, lazily shuffling her tarot cards with that effortless grace that made my heart do embarrassing things. She glanced up as the door jingled, eyes flicking to the small shopping bag in my hand.
“What’s this?” she asked, raising a delicate brow.
I placed the bag on the counter with a triumphant grin. “It’s about time you stepped into this decade, Calderu.”
She sighed, long and suffering. “Y/n, I don’t need —”
“You do,” I interrupted, pulling out the sleek black smartphone. “This? This is a miracle. You can set appointments, track orders, and get this, stop living in the dark ages.”
Lilia stared at the device like it might bite her. “I like my dark ages.”
I rolled my eyes. “Come on, humour me. Think of it as an investment. For the shop.”
She exhaled dramatically but took the phone, turning it over in her hands with a look of mild disdain. “It’s so... modern. ”
“That’s the point.” I grinned. “And, because I care about y—” I stumbled, suddenly feeling awkward. “—because I care about... efficiency, I already programmed it with your contacts and the shop’s schedule.”
Lilia smirked, clearly enjoying my mortification. “Very thorough, baby.”
I flushed. “Just... try it.”
She sighed but started poking at the screen, and I watched, fascinated, as her brows furrowed in concentration. “Hmph. It’s... responsive.”
“That’s what touchscreens do.”
“Fascinating.”
I grinned, feeling victorious. “You’re welcome.”
Later that night, I sat on Agatha’s couch, nursing a drink and dramatically recounting my victory to the coven.
“She took the phone,” I said, gesturing grandly. “She even said it was fascinating. This is huge.”
Jen raised a brow. “You bought her a phone?”
“Yeah.”
Alice leaned in. “Like... an actual smartphone? ”
“Yes.”
Agatha, sipping her wine, smirked. “y/n. Baby. Darling.”
“What?”
“You have to sext her.”
I choked on my drink. “ WHAT?! ”
Billy, perched on the armrest of the couch, grinned. “I second this.”
“No,” I said, shaking my head vehemently. “Absolutely not.”
Agatha leaned forward, eyes glinting with mischief. “You cannot waste this opportunity.”
Alice covered her face with her hands. “Oh my God.”
Jen nodded sagely. “Listen, you’ve been pining after this woman for weeks. This is your moment.”
I gaped at them. “I bought her a phone so she could schedule tarot readings, not so I could send her—” I cut myself off, flushing furiously. “No. Not happening.”
Agatha smirked. “y/n.”
“No.”
“y/n.”
I groaned. “Guys, she doesn’t even like me like that.”
Billy scoffed. “She’s calling you baby every five minutes.”
“That’s just how she talks!”
Agatha shook her head. “Trust me, if she wasn’t interested, she wouldn’t put up with your nonsense.”
I buried my face in my hands. “I hate all of you.”
Jen patted my back. “Just... test the waters. Send something flirty. Nothing too intense.”
“Like what?” I mumbled into my hands.
Billy grinned. “Something like ‘Hey, Lilia. Thinking about you. And also that tarot reading you owe me.’ ”
“That’s not sexting?” I arched my brow.
Agatha shrugged. “Baby steps, y/n. Baby steps.”
Alice, ever the voice of reason, chimed in. “Or you could, you know, just use the phone for its intended purpose.”
Agatha and Billy groaned in unison.
Jen smirked. “C’mon, y/n. You flirt with everyone else like it’s your day job. Why not just send a little something spicy?”
I shook my head furiously. “Absolutely not. I refuse.”
Agatha grinned wickedly. “Then hand me your phone.”
I snatched it away, glaring. “I will murder you.”
“Fine, fine,” Agatha said, leaning back with a sigh. “But mark my words, y/n, you will crack. And when you do, I expect details.”
I groaned, sinking deeper into the couch.
This was going to be a disaster.
Another morning, another shift, I found myself watching Lilia as she tapped away at her new phone with a surprising amount of focus. She was getting the hang of it faster than I’d expected, which only made me more nervous.
“Enjoying it?” I asked casually, leaning on the counter.
She glanced up, lips quirking. “It’s... useful.”
I smirked. “Told you so.”
Her eyes twinkled. “You’re quite persistent, baby.”
I swallowed hard. Don’t read into it. Don’t read into it.
Lilia left not long after, saying something about running errands and warning me not to rearrange her “perfectly organised” bookshelves while she was gone. I rolled my eyes, but as soon as the bell above the door chimed, I let out a breath.
I was halfway through dusting the crystal ball display when my phone buzzed in my pocket. Expecting a message from one of the chaos gremlins I called friends, I pulled it out without thinking, only for my stomach to drop.
New message from Lilia Calderu:"This phone might be useful after all. You’ve made me quite... curious."
I stared at the screen, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Oh no,” I whispered.
I could practically hear Agatha’s voice in my head.
You cannot waste this opportunity.
I didn’t respond to Lilia’s text. Not right away, at least. I told myself it was because I was busy, sorting inventory, helping customers, thinking about her like a lovesick idiot, but really, it was because I had no idea what to say.
"You’ve made me quite... curious."
What did that mean? Was she flirting? Was she just being her usual enigmatic self? Or was I reading too much into a perfectly innocent text from a woman who probably thought Wi-Fi was some kind of mystical energy?
I shoved my phone back into my pocket and spent the rest of the day pretending it didn’t exist.
Later that night, I gathered the coven at my place, pacing my living room as I relayed the situation.
“So she texted that, and I didn’t reply,” I finished, waving my phone around like it was cursed. “I just left her on read. ”
Agatha groaned, throwing her head back dramatically. “y/n. y/n. ”
Billy gasped. “You ghosted her?”
“It’s not ghosting if it’s only been a few hours!” I argued. “I needed... I needed time. ”
Jen stared at me like I was the dumbest person alive. “To do what, exactly?”
“Panic!” I exclaimed, throwing myself onto the couch. “You don’t understand! I can flirt with anyone, anyone, but it’s Lilia. She’s... Lilia. ”
Alice, sitting beside me, patted my knee with sympathy. “We know, y/n. But if you don’t reply soon, you’re going to look weird.”
Agatha sat forward, pointing at me with a knowing smirk. “You need to sext her.”
“No!” I practically shouted, scrambling to sit up. “We are not sexting!”
Billy grinned. “You cannot miss this opportunity.”
Jen crossed her arms. “y/n. Babe. If you don’t flirt back, she’s going to think you’re not interested.”
I groaned. “I am interested. I’m just not... ready to send the big guns. ”
Agatha rolled her eyes. “Fine. We’ll start small. What’s something flirty but not too flirty?”
Billy snapped his fingers. “Tell her you were thinking about her.”
I stared. “I’m not texting that.”
Alice suggested gently, “Maybe something like... ‘What exactly are you curious about?’”
Jen nodded approvingly. “Oh, that’s good. Leaves it open-ended.”
Agatha smirked. “And suggestive.”
I pointed at Alice. “I like that one. Safe. Respectable.”
Billy huffed. “Boring.”
I took a deep breath, typing it out slowly.
Me: What exactly are you curious about?
I stared at the screen, hovering over the send button. “Okay, I sent it. Wait, no, I can’t.” I threw my phone to Alice. “You send it.”
Alice sighed but hit send. “Done.”
I buried my face in my hands. “I hate this. This is awful. Why do people do this?”
Agatha snickered. “Because it’s fun.”
A moment later, my phone buzzed, and the entire group froze.
Billy’s eyes widened. “Oh my God, she replied already?”
I snatched my phone, heart pounding.
Lilia: You, mostly.
Silence.
Then chaos.
I just stared at the screen in pure, unadulterated panic. “WHAT DO I SAY TO THAT?”
Agatha grinned like the devil herself. “You say... ‘Only mostly?’”
Alice nodded. “Yes. Play it cool.”
I nodded slowly, fingers trembling. “Okay... okay.” I typed the words, hesitated, then hit send.
A minute passed. Another buzz.
Lilia: You do tend to take up a lot of space.
Billy fell to the floor. “WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?”
Agatha cackled. “It means you’re living in her head rent-free. Y/n, if you don’t escalate this, I will.”
I groaned, pacing the room again. “Okay. Okay. I need to flirt back. How do I flirt back without looking desperate?”
Jen smirked. “You are desperate.”
Alice offered, “Maybe... ‘I hope I’m not too much trouble.’”
Agatha groaned. “Boring. Say, ‘I’ll take that as a compliment.’”
“I’m not pushing it, Agatha.”
Billy grinned. “Coward.”
I sighed, typing Alice’s suggestion.
Me: I hope I’m not too much trouble.
Another buzz.
Lilia: Not yet.
I screamed into a pillow.
Agatha raised her glass. “Ladies and gentlemen... we got her.”
The next morning, I walked into the shop with my heart pounding in my chest, expecting— hoping —for some sort of acknowledgment from Lilia. Maybe a sly smile, a lingering look, or even a teasing comment about our texts.
Instead, I got... nothing.
“Morning, y/n,” she greeted me in her usual warm but distant tone, barely glancing up from rearranging a set of tarot decks.
I blinked. “Uh, morning.”
She didn’t say anything else. No mention of the texts, no coy smile, no baby. Just business as usual.
I busied myself at the counter, sneaking glances at her whenever I could. And while she seemed to be going out of her way to act normal, something was different. She stood closer to me when we worked together, her hands occasionally brushing mine when I passed her something. She touched my arm when she needed me to move, her fingers lingering for just a second longer than necessary.
But she didn’t say anything about it.
Not a damn thing.
And to make things worse, she kept casually reminding me of just how much older she was.
“You wouldn’t remember,” she said with a small chuckle when I asked about an old book she was dusting off. “It’s before your time.”
When I mentioned a show I’d been watching, she waved it off with a smirk. “Oh, y/n, that’s so... modern. I remember when television didn’t have color. ”
And when I tripped over my words trying to ask her a question, she just gave me that small, infuriating smile and murmured, “Ah, youth.”
It was driving me insane.
That night, I gathered with the coven at Agatha’s, pacing the living room like a woman on the edge. “She’s driving me crazy, ” I groaned, throwing myself onto the couch dramatically.
Jen raised an eyebrow. “She didn’t mention the texts at all? ”
“Not even once! ” I threw my hands in the air. “It’s like they never happened! And yet she’s touching me more than ever, but at the same time, she keeps bringing up how ancient she is.”
Agatha smirked. “Ah, classic ‘I’m too old for you’ defense.”
Billy frowned. “Wait, you think she’s doing it on purpose?”
Alice nodded thoughtfully. “It sounds like she’s trying to create distance without actually pulling away.”
I groaned into a pillow. “So what does that mean? She’s interested but scared?”
Jen hummed. “Maybe. Or she could just be screwing with you.”
Agatha sipped her wine. “Or hear me out—she’s waiting for you to push past the age thing.”
I peeked out from the pillow. “Push past it how? ”
Billy grinned. “Flirt harder.”
I sat up. “I don’t think I can flirt harder, Billy.”
Agatha leaned in with a devilish grin. “Then you make her realise age doesn’t matter.”
Jen smirked. “And how exactly does she do that?”
Agatha’s eyes gleamed. “Confidence. You show her you’re mature, and that she’s the one wasting time over nothing.”
I frowned. “And if she’s genuinely not interested?”
Alice squeezed my hand. “Then at least you’ll know for sure.”
Billy nudged me. “Look, the way she texts you... she’s interested, y/n. No way she’s not.”
I sighed. “I just... I don’t want to push her if she’s uncomfortable.”
Agatha rolled her eyes. “y/n. She’s not uncomfortable. She’s hesitant. There’s a difference.”
Jen nodded. “You just need to show her that you’re serious, that you’re not some wide-eyed kid crushing on her.”
I groaned again. “So what do I do?”
Agatha grinned. “You step up your game. And I have just the plan.”
The shop was quiet this afternoon, the scent of incense curling through the air as I busied myself restocking the shelves. Lilia sat behind the counter, flipping through a book, her brow furrowed in quiet concentration. It was a peaceful kind of day until the bell above the door chimed, and I looked up, nearly dropping the stack of crystals in my hands.
I froze.
Standing in the doorway, looking just as poised and elegant as ever, was my ex.
“Oh my God,” I muttered under my breath.
She blinked, then smiled in genuine surprise. “y/n?”
Lilia glanced up at the exchange, her expression pleasantly neutral, though I noticed the way her fingers paused mid-page turn.
I forced a smile, setting down the crystals. “Hey! Wow, uh... what are you doing here?”
She laughed lightly, brushing a lock of dark hair behind her ear. “A friend of mine recommended this place. Said the tarot readings here were... life-changing. ”
Agatha, you absolute menace.
Before I could explain, Lilia stood, offering one of her usual polite smiles. “A friend of y/n’s?”
My ex turned to her, all charm and grace. “Oh no, dear,” she said with a small chuckle, resting a hand on the counter. “I’m her ex.”
Silence.
Absolute, deafening silence.
Lilia’s lips parted slightly, her eyes widening just a fraction before she masked it with a practiced blink. “Oh,” she said slowly, clearly recalibrating. “I see.” Her eyes flicked between us, and then, with an almost surgical precision, she added, “Aren’t you... a little old?”
I internally screamed.
My ex, to her credit, handled it with an amused smile. “It was perfectly legal, I assure you.”
Lilia’s gaze didn’t waver. “Hm.”
I coughed awkwardly, feeling my face heat. “We, uh... it was a while ago.”
Lilia didn’t respond, just continued observing me with that unreadable expression of hers, her hands resting lightly on the counter.
My ex gave me a lingering smile. “You look good, y/n. It’s been a while.”
“Yeah, it has,” I said, shifting uncomfortably under Lilia’s silent gaze. “How have you been?”
“Busy,” she replied with a casual shrug. “But I won’t keep you, I just wanted to check the place out. It’s lovely. I’ll be sure to come back when I have time for a tarot reading.” She smiled politely at Lilia. “I see y/n’s in good hands.” She added.
Lilia’s lips twitched, but she only nodded. “Naturally.”
I was pretty sure I was sweating at this point. “Uh, yeah, well, good seeing you. Let me know if you need anything.”
“I will,” she said with a lingering smile before heading out the door with a soft chime of the bell.
The moment she was gone, I turned to Lilia, ready to explain but she was already facing away from me, carefully aligning a deck of tarot cards that didn’t need aligning.
Silence stretched between us, heavy and thick.
I cleared my throat. “Sooo... that happened.”
Lilia hummed noncommittally, her focus apparently glued to the cards in her hands. “Indeed.”
I shifted awkwardly. “You okay?”
She glanced at me, her expression perfectly composed but her eyes just a little too sharp. “I’m fine, baby.”
Baby. I nearly sighed in relief at the sound of it, but something about the way she said it, softer, more thoughtful made my stomach twist.
“You sure? You’re, uh... being quiet.”
She smiled faintly, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Just... thinking.”
I frowned, watching her closely. “About?”
She didn’t answer right away, instead carefully setting the tarot deck down before meeting my gaze. “I suppose I’m just... surprised.”
“Surprised?” I echoed.
Lilia tilted her head, her expression unreadable again. “You didn’t strike me as someone who dated... older women.”
I laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of my neck. “Uh... surprise?”
Lilia studied me for a long moment, her lips pressing together like she was considering something. “I see.”
And then, without another word, she turned back to her work, and I was left standing there, feeling like I had somehow lost a game I didn’t even know we were playing.
By nightfall, I was back at Agatha’s, crashing onto her couch, groaning dramatically. “Agatha, you suck. ”
She grinned over her wine glass. “You’re welcome.”
Jen shook her head. “So let me get this straight, you saw your ex, Lilia found out, and now she’s acting weird? ”
“Weird,” I confirmed, running a hand through my hair. “She’s quiet. Too quiet. And she kept bringing up the age thing before, but now she’s, like, really leaning into it.”
Billy grinned. “So she’s jealous.”
I groaned. “I don’t know! She’s not saying anything. She’s just being all... introspective.”
Agatha smirked. “Oh, she’s spiraling.”
Alice gave me a sympathetic look. “Maybe she’s just processing. I mean, you’re younger, and she’s probably overthinking it.”
“She is overthinking it,” I muttered. “And I don’t know what to do!”
Jen sipped her drink. “You flirt with her more.”
Billy nodded. “Exactly. Show her age means nothing.”
I sighed. “I don’t know if I can just—”
Agatha cut me off. “y/n. Look at me.”
I looked.
“You are hot. You are charming. And you have successfully dated an older woman before. ”
I winced. “Thanks for the reminder.”
She grinned. “Lilia Calderu is not immune to you. Trust me. She’s just panicking because now she knows she’s not the first older woman you’ve been interested in.”
Alice chimed in gently, “She might have been telling herself the age thing was a reason not to get involved with you. And now? She’s realising it’s not a reason at all.”
I blinked. “You think?”
Agatha smirked. “I know. ”
Billy fist-pumped. “So, new plan?”
I sighed, staring at my phone, where Lilia’s name sat in my recent messages. “New plan,” I mumbled. “Step up the flirting.”
Agatha raised her glass. “To y/n’s romantic conquest!”
I groaned. This was going to be so much worse than the texting.
I walked into the shop with renewed determination. Last night’s pep talk with the coven had me feeling... well, mostly confident. At least confident enough to step up my game and make it clear to Lilia that the whole age thing? Not an issue. I had a plan, flirt, be charming, and maybe, just maybe , get her to acknowledge whatever was happening between us.
Except life, as usual, had other plans.
The moment I walked in, the shop was packed. A line of customers at the counter, others browsing the shelves, and Lilia, poised, composed, and completely absorbed in reading after reading.
I blinked. “Since when do we get this busy?”
She didn’t answer, of course. Lilia never spoke during a reading, but the way she glanced up at me before flipping over a card for the woman in front of her said enough.
I sighed, shoving my bag behind the counter.
After the reading, she finally looked up, smoothing her hands over the table. “It’s the full moon tomorrow. People are... searching.”
“Of course they are.”
So much for my grand seduction plan.
I tried, though. Between organising stock and ringing up sales, I threw in little comments. A brush of my hand here, a sly smile there. But Lilia? She was avoiding me like it was her new favorite hobby.
Every time I moved toward her, she shifted her attention to a customer. When I leaned against the counter, trying to catch her eye, she breezed past me with a murmured, “Excuse me, baby.”
And when I finally managed to get close enough to remind her about my plans, she barely registered it.
“Hey, don’t forget I have to leave early tomorrow,” I said, leaning in slightly. “Agatha’s art gallery thing, remember? I told you last week.”
Lilia, scanning a book title, nodded absently. “Mhm. That’s fine, baby.”
I frowned. “Lilia, Agatha will kill me if I miss it.”
Still no real reaction. “You’ll be fine.”
And just like that, she was gone again, moving to help another customer without a second glance.
I stared after her, utterly baffled. She was always attentive when I talked to her, always teasing or throwing in some cryptic comment to keep me on my toes. But today? Today, she was distant. Aloof. And it was driving me insane.
By the end of the day, I was ready to scream.
I stomped into Agatha’s that evening, slumping onto the couch in pure defeat. “She’s avoiding me.”
Agatha didn’t even look up from her wine. “Told you she’d spiral.”
Billy, sprawled on the floor with a tarot deck, flipped over a random card and smirked. “I predict that she’s freaking out.”
Jen raised an eyebrow. “You got all that from the cards?”
“No, I got that from common sense,” Billy said, grinning.
Alice offered me a sympathetic smile. “Maybe she’s just busy?”
I threw my hands in the air. “No, Alice. She’s strategically avoiding me. I tried everything today. Every time I got close, she found something else to do.”
Jen winced. “Ouch. So what’s the plan now?”
Agatha set down her wine, eyes gleaming. “Simple. You keep going.”
I groaned. “Agatha.”
“No, listen,” she insisted, sitting up. “If she’s avoiding you, that means she felt something yesterday. And now she’s panicking.”
Billy grinned. “So what you’re saying is... push harder?”
I groaned again. “You guys want me to die.”
Agatha leaned back, grinning. “You’ve survived worse.”
I sighed. “I told her I was leaving early for your thing tomorrow. She barely reacted.”
Agatha smirked. “Good. Because tomorrow, my dear y/n, she’s going to realise just how much she hates it when you’re not around.”
Alice smiled kindly. “Maybe a little space will make her see what she’s missing.”
I stared at the ceiling. “I hate all of you.”
Billy grinned. “We know.”
As soon as I stepped into the shop again, it felt like déjà vu. But thankfully today the shop was quiet. Not many customers, just the quiet hum of the incense burner. And, of course, Lilia still expertly dodging me like it was her life’s mission.
I tried to be casual about it, leaning on the counter and watching her pretend to be absorbed in inventory she’d probably memorised years ago. “Hey, mind if I use your place to get ready for Agatha’s thing later?” I asked, keeping my voice light.
She didn’t even look up, just nodded. “Of course. The spare key’s behind the counter.”
I resisted the urge to sigh. “Thanks.”
And just like that, she was back to pretending I didn’t exist.
I stared at her for a moment, resisting the urge to say something more, something to break through whatever walls she was so determined to put up. But instead, I just grabbed the spare key and headed into the back.
Lilia’s space was tucked behind the shop, a cozy, cluttered little place filled with books, candles, and an endless supply of robes draped over various furniture pieces. I didn’t think much of it as I changed into the dress Agatha had practically forced me to wear. The dress hugged every inch of me in all the right places, the deep shade accentuating my skin in a way that even I had to admit was... impressive.
I slipped on my heels, applied my red lipstick with a steady hand, and fixed my hair until it fell just right. I wasn’t trying to do anything, this was just getting ready for Agatha’s event but even I could admit I looked good.
With one last glance in the mirror, I grabbed my things and stepped back into the shop.
Lilia was standing behind the counter, flipping through a book, seemingly lost in thought. She didn’t look up at first.
And then she did.
I watched the reaction unfold in slow motion, the way her eyes lifted, trailing up from the hem of my dress to my legs, then higher, higher, until they reached my face. Then she looked down, as if to double-check what she’d just seen. And then— snap —right back up again, her head jerking so fast I swore she almost gave herself whiplash.
Her lips parted slightly, and for the first time ever, she said absolutely nothing.
I bit back a smile and walked over to the counter, heels clicking against the wooden floor, and held out the keys. “Thanks for letting me use your place.”
Lilia’s fingers closed around the keys, but she didn’t look away. Her dark eyes dragged over me again, slower this time, like she was trying to take it all in, maybe even commit it to memory.
There was something in the way she was looking at me, like she was working up the courage to say something. Her mouth opened slightly, and for a split second, I thought she might finally break her silence.
And then, right on cue, the door chimed.
“y/n, darling!” Agatha’s voice was as bright and smug as ever as she strolled in, wearing a knowing smile that only deepened when she saw the way Lilia was staring at me. “Look at you.”
Lilia’s gaze snapped away, and just like that, the moment was gone.
Agatha’s arm linked through mine, her grin positively feral as she turned to Lilia. “I’m stealing her for the night. Hope you don’t mind.”
Lilia finally spoke, her voice softer than usual. “Not at all.”
I turned to her with a small smile. “Bye, Lilia.”
She nodded, still looking at me like she wasn’t quite sure what to say. “Goodnight, baby.”
Agatha practically dragged me out of the shop, and as soon as the door shut behind us, she let out a low whistle.
“Holy shit, y/n.”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “Yeah, yeah.”
“No, no, did you see her face?” Agatha cackled, practically vibrating with glee. “I think you just aged her a decade.”
I groaned. “She didn’t even say anything.”
Agatha rolled her eyes, starting the car. “Oh, honey, she didn’t need to. That woman was devouring you with her eyes.”
I bit my lip, staring out the window. “You think?”
“I know. ”
And honestly? I really, really hoped she was right.
The night with Agatha was exactly what I needed. I loved things like this, dressing up, feeling the buzz of conversation, the soft glow of lights reflecting off expensive paintings, and the effortless way I fit into it all. There was something about the atmosphere, about the way people looked at me, that made me feel alive. And, of course, Agatha basked in it too, sipping her wine with a smirk and throwing me knowing looks every time someone complimented my dress.
"You clean up dangerously well, darling," she whispered at one point, nudging me with her elbow. "No wonder Lilia nearly combusted."
I rolled my eyes but couldn't fight the heat creeping up my neck. "She didn't combust."
Agatha just grinned. "She will."
After the event wrapped up, Agatha, never one to let a good night end too soon, insisted on a celebratory gathering at her place. It didn't take much convincing—Billy, Jen, and Alice were already in, and honestly, I loved being around them. Nights like this were rare, and I soaked it in, lounging on Agatha’s plush couch with a glass of wine in hand while she dramatically recounted the events of the night.
"And then," Agatha said, eyes sparkling with mischief, "she walked out of that little back room, looking absolutely devastating, and I swear to you, Lilia nearly dropped dead. "
Jen gasped in delight. "Shut up. "
Billy, sprawled out on the floor with his arms behind his head, grinned. "I knew it. I knew she couldn’t handle it."
Alice, ever the voice of calm, smiled softly. "She really didn't say anything?"
I groaned, covering my face with my hands. "Not a word. She just... stared. "
Agatha smirked. "Stared? Honey, that woman was devouring you with her eyes."
Jen cackled. "So what’s the next move, y/n? Do we escalate?"
"I don't know!" I groaned. "She’s been weird all week, avoiding me, and now this? What does it even mean? "
Billy rolled onto his side. "It means she’s cracking."
"She’s definitely cracking," Jen agreed. "And if you play your cards right, she’ll snap soon enough."
I sighed, swirling my wine. "I don’t want to push her if she’s uncomfortable, though. If she’s really that caught up about the age thing—"
Agatha waved me off. "Oh, please. She’s not uncomfortable. She’s terrified. "
"Terrified?" I frowned.
"Terrified because she knows you could wreck her entire world, and she wouldn’t stand a chance." Agatha leaned in with a wicked smile. "And she likes being in control, doesn’t she?"
I opened my mouth to argue, but my phone buzzed, cutting through the conversation. My heart leapt into my throat.
I glanced down, and there it was.
Lilia: Let me know when you get home safe.
I stared at the screen, the words blurring slightly as my heart hammered against my ribs.
Billy sat up instantly. "Who is it?"
I swallowed hard. "Lilia."
The room erupted.
"Oh my God," Jen practically shrieked, grabbing my arm. "She texted you?! "
Agatha grinned like the Cheshire cat. "Oh, she’s gone. "
I blinked, staring at the message. "It’s just... she wants to make sure I’m okay."
Agatha snatched the phone from my hand, reading the message aloud in a dramatic tone. "Let me know when you get home safe." She gasped theatrically. "Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve entered the protective phase. "
I groaned, grabbing my phone back. "It’s not a big deal."
Jen poked me. "y/n. Babe. This is a huge deal. She’s thinking about you right now. She’s picturing you coming home, kicking off your heels, and—"
"Okay, that’s enough," I muttered, my face burning.
Billy smirked. "But seriously, what are you gonna say back?"
I stared at the message again, my fingers hovering over the keyboard. "I don’t know. What do I even say? "
Agatha leaned in with a devious grin. "Simple. ‘Wish you were here.’"
I shot her a glare. "I’m not sexting her."
Alice smiled. "You could just say, ‘I will, thanks for checking in.’ Casual, but lets her know you appreciate it."
Jen hummed. "Or... you could send a little something extra. Not too flirty, just enough to keep her thinking."
I sighed. "You guys are terrible influences."
Billy shrugged. "We know."
I rolled my eyes but typed out a response anyway.
Me: Thanks, Lilia. I will. You're sweet for checking in.
I hovered over the send button, heart racing, before pressing it.
The room watched in silent anticipation.
Billy grinned. "And now we wait."
I stared at my phone, willing it to buzz again. The coven had gone back to their usual antics. Billy was dramatically narrating the highlights of Agatha’s gallery event, Jen was critiquing the wine selection, and Agatha was lounging with a satisfied smirk, clearly pleased with her own meddling.
But me? I was glued to my screen, staring at Lilia’s last message like it held the secrets of the universe.
And then, finally, my phone buzzed.
Lilia: Please let me know if I need to send the police out.
I snorted, shaking my head. “She’s threatening to call the cops on me.”
Billy perked up. “That’s sexy.”
I sighed, typing out a response.
Me: I’m at Agatha’s, staying here tonight.
A moment later, another buzz.
Lilia: Good. Glad you’re safe.
I exhaled, a small smile tugging at my lips. But before I could even process it, another message popped up.
Lilia: How did the night go?
The coven erupted.
“Oh my God, ” Jen gasped, grabbing my arm. “She’s fishing. ”
“Grandma’s up past her bedtime, ” Agatha grinned, swirling her wine. “Probably already touching herself thinking about y/n and that red lipstick.”
I choked on my drink. “ Agatha! ”
Billy cackled, rolling onto his side. “I mean, she did see you in that dress. You think she just went to sleep after that? Hell no.”
Alice, blushing furiously, covered her face. “Oh my God, guys.”
I groaned, glaring at them. “Can you all not? She’s being nice, that’s all.”
Agatha smirked. “Sweetheart, people don’t stay up texting their employees at midnight just to be nice. ”
Jen waved a hand. “Yeah, no one’s buying that. She’s sitting at home, staring at her phone, probably replaying that double take she did when you walked out in that dress.”
Billy wagged his brows. “Lilia Calderu: palm reader by day, handsy old woman by night.”
I buried my face in my hands. “I hate all of you.”
Agatha grinned. “No, you love us. Now text her back. Be flirty, y/n.”
I peeked out from my hands. “What do I even say?”
Jen, ever the strategist, leaned in. “Keep it casual but suggestive. Something like, ‘It was good. Would’ve been better if you were there.’”
Billy gasped. “Yes, yes, YES.”
Alice shook her head. “That’s too much. Maybe just say, ‘It went well, I’ll tell you about it tomorrow.’”
Agatha snorted. “Boring.”
I sighed, staring at my phone. “Fine. I’ll go with something... middle ground.”
I typed, biting my lip.
Me: It went well. I think I made an impression.
The coven leaned in, waiting as I hovered over the send button. I rolled my eyes and hit it.
We all stared at the screen, waiting.
My phone buzzed again.
Lilia: I have no doubt you did, baby.
I froze, and the coven lost it.
I swallowed hard, my fingers trembling over the keyboard. “I think I’m going to die.”
Agatha grinned. “Not before you sext her back. ”
I stared at my phone, heart hammering in my chest, Lilia’s message practically burning into my screen.
I turned to the coven, wide-eyed and completely at a loss. “What do I say? What do I say?! ”
Alice sighed. “Keep it playful. Like, ‘Good to know my reputation precedes me.’”
Agatha smirked. “Or—and hear me out—‘I leave a mark wherever I go... want me to leave my mark on you?’”
I groaned, grabbing my phone back. “You all suck.”
Billy grinned. “And yet you keep asking for our help.”
I rolled my eyes but typed anyway, fingers trembling just slightly.
Me: Good to know my reputation precedes me.
A collective sigh of satisfaction rippled through the group as I hit send.
We all stared at the screen again. Silence. Then...
Lilia: It does. Quite the reputation, indeed.
Jen gasped. “OH. MY. GOD. ”
Agatha laughed, draping herself dramatically over the couch. “y/n, darling, you are killing her.”
I couldn’t fight the smile stretching across my lips, warmth spreading through me.
Alice giggled. “This is so cute.”
Billy nodded sagely. “It’s not cute, Alice. It’s sexy. ”
We kept chatting for a while longer, Agatha tossing out increasingly absurd suggestions that I shot down one by one, and eventually, we all crashed, smiles on our faces, hearts full, and just enough teasing to ensure I wouldn’t get a moment’s peace tomorrow.
It was so fucking early. Too early. The kind of early that felt like a personal attack.
I woke up to the sharp smell of coffee and the unmistakable sound of Billy and Jen bickering, their voices cutting through the dawn like they had no concept of time—or mercy. My brain protested every second of consciousness, but I managed to peel myself off the couch, blinking blearily.
After some groggy, half-conscious hugs and a round of mumbled promises to update each other, we all stumbled our separate ways, the world outside still drenched in that unsettling, pre-sunrise gloom.
And then... I was home. Alone.
And I was bored.
I wasn’t at the shop today, which meant I had absolutely no distractions. No tarot cards to organise, no shelves to restock, and, most importantly, no Lilia. I found myself pacing my apartment, debating whether it would be too much to text her again, but the thought made me cringe.
I needed an excuse. Something casual.
I chewed my lip, glancing at my keys. And then it hit me.
Lilia loved this little Italian pastry place across town, she mentioned it once in passing, some small hole-in-the-wall bakery that she claimed made the best sfogliatelle she’d had since leaving Sicily.
Before I could overthink it, I grabbed my coat and drove across town.
By the time I reached the shop, the Closed sign was still hanging on the door. It was early, too early for the shop to be open yet, but I knocked anyway, clutching the warm box of pastries in my hands.
A few seconds passed, and then the door creaked open.
Lilia stood there in a robe— a robe.
A silky, deep burgundy robe that clung to her in ways that made my brain short-circuit. Her dark curls were loose, tumbling over her shoulders, and she looked... soft. Sleepy.
And I was the one speechless now.
“y/n?” she murmured, brow furrowing in confusion.
I swallowed hard, trying to remember how to form words. “Uh... I brought breakfast.” I held up the box like an offering, as if that explained why I was standing outside her shop at an ungodly hour.
She stared at me for a beat, then at the pastries, and then back at me. Without a word, she stepped aside, opening the door wider.
I stepped inside, the familiar scent of the shop mingling with the faint, warm scent of her.
Lilia gestured to the small table in the corner where we usually sat with tea. “Sit,” she said softly, closing the door behind me.
I obeyed, setting the pastries down as she disappeared into the back for a moment. When she returned, she had two mugs of coffee in hand, sliding one across the table to me.
“Thought you had today off,” she said, finally breaking the silence.
I shrugged, unboxing the pastries. “I do. I just... thought you’d like these.”
Her lips twitched. “From my favorite place?”
I grinned. “I listen.”
She picked up one of the pastries, inspecting it like she was deciding if I’d done a good job. Then she took a bite, her eyes fluttering closed for a moment. “You really do listen.”
I laughed softly, watching her. “So, how’d the shop do without me yesterday?”
Lilia smirked. “It survived.”
We ate in comfortable silence for a few minutes, the tension from the night before melting into something more familiar. She asked about the gallery, my friends, the art. I told her about Billy’s ridiculous art commentary and Agatha’s smug satisfaction.
“You have good friends,” she said after a while, stirring her coffee thoughtfully.
“They’re the best,” I agreed, smiling.
She sipped her coffee, watching me over the rim of the mug with those dark, knowing eyes. “And they care about you... a lot.”
I shrugged. “I care about them too.”
Something flickered in her expression, but before I could ask, she glanced at the clock and sighed. “You should probably head back before they start wondering where you are.”
I pouted. “Are you kicking me out?”
Her lips twitched. “I’m saying your fan club will miss you.”
I rolled my eyes, taking the hint, and stood to gather my things. “Fine, fine. I’ll let you get ready to open.”
Lilia smirked, walking me to the door. “Smart choice, baby.”
I paused in the doorway, turning to her. “Thanks for letting me crash your morning.”
She leaned against the doorframe, her gaze soft but unreadable. “Anytime.”
I left with a flutter in my chest, already thinking about what excuse I could come up with to see her again.
The evening was quiet, just me and the soft hum of the TV filling the apartment. I was curled up on the couch, half-watching some crime drama, the kind where the detectives always figure things out way too fast. My mind kept drifting back to this morning, Lilia in that robe, the way she’d looked at me, the way her lips had curled around the edge of her coffee cup like she was considering something she wouldn’t say out loud.
I sighed, sinking deeper into the cushions, telling myself to stop overthinking.
And then my phone buzzed.
I glanced at the screen, expecting a text from one of the coven, but my brows furrowed at the sender.
Lilia Calderu.
I sat up a little straighter, unlocking my phone.
The message? Absolute gibberish.
“fhbgggjkkjj”
I blinked.
I stared at it.
I blinked again.
I typed back quickly.
Me: Lilia? Everything okay?
No response.
I stared at my phone, waiting.
Still nothing.
I chewed on my lip, debating if I should call her, when—
RING.
I nearly dropped the phone as Lilia’s name flashed across the screen.
I fumbled to answer, pressing it to my ear. “Lilia?”
Nothing. Just... breathing.
Shaky, uneven breathing.
And then—
A whimper.
My entire body froze.
Another sound, soft and needy, and—
A low, drawn-out moan.
I choked on air, clutching the phone so tightly my knuckles turned white. My mouth went completely dry.
There was no mistaking what I was hearing. No way.
I opened my mouth to say something— anything —but before I could, the line went dead.
I stared at the phone like it had just burst into flames in my hand.
“No. No way,” I whispered to myself, blinking rapidly.
This... this had to be an accident. Maybe she sat on her phone? Maybe—maybe she was watching a... video or something? Yeah, I thought, nodding to myself. That makes sense. Probably just a mistake.
A completely innocent, totally not deliberate mistake.
My phone stayed silent in my hands, and I sat there for about 20 minutes, just processing.
And then my phone buzzed again.
Lilia: Ignore that.
I gawked at the screen.
Ignore that?
Like it was just some minor inconvenience?
My fingers trembled as I typed back.
Me: …Okay?
There was a long pause.
Then, finally—
Lilia: Goodnight, baby.
I groaned, falling back against the couch, covering my face with my hands.
“She’s going to kill me.”
I barely slept that night. Every time I closed my eyes, I heard it, the soft whimper, the breathy moan, the way the call cut off before I could even process what was happening. My mind replayed it over and over, dissecting every second until I convinced myself it had to be a mistake.
Lilia had to have accidentally pocket dialed me. There was no way she’d do something like that on purpose. Right?
By the time morning rolled around, I was a mess, over-caffeinated, under-rested, and dreading what was going to happen when I walked into the shop.
I took a deep breath before pushing the door open, bracing myself for something, anything awkwardness, a comment, maybe even a cryptic remark about phones.
But when I walked in, Lilia was already behind the counter, counting the till like nothing had happened.
“Morning, y/n,” she said casually, not even looking up.
I froze for a second. “Uh... morning.”
She glanced up, arching a brow at my hesitation. “Are you alright?”
I stared at her, searching for any hint of discomfort or amusement anything that would give away the fact that she absolutely knew what she did last night. But she just looked... normal. Unbothered. As if she hadn’t called me in the middle of the night and—
I cleared my throat, forcing a smile. “Yeah. Just... didn’t sleep well.”
Lilia hummed knowingly. “Ah, too much excitement from your art gala adventure the previous night?”
I blinked. Was that... was that a dig? I couldn't tell.
“Something like that,” I muttered, setting my bag down behind the counter.
She straightened up and gave me one of her usual, polite smiles. “I need you to organise the crystal display today. People keep moving things around, and it’s driving me crazy.”
I stared at her, waiting for something, some sly comment, some subtle hint that she knew.
Nothing.
She just handed me a cloth and gestured toward the shelves like it was any other day.
I nodded slowly, taking it from her. “Sure. I can do that.”
Lilia’s lips quirked, and she patted my shoulder lightly. “Good girl.”
The words slipped from Lilia’s lips like they meant nothing, like they weren’t currently wreaking absolute havoc on my nervous system.
I gripped the cloth in my hands so tight I was surprised it didn’t disintegrate. My entire body was in overdrive, my brain short-circuiting in real-time, because after last night, after hearing that noise, after spending all night dissecting it from every possible angle, there was no way I could process her saying that without losing my mind.
And yet, Lilia carried on like she hadn’t just set me on fire.
She hummed to herself as she floated across the shop, rearranging candles with her usual air of elegant chaos, soft, sophisticated, yet somehow still completely kooky. She muttered something under her breath about “people putting things in the wrong places” and shot the candles a scolding look, as if they were responsible.
Meanwhile, I stood there, trying to act like my entire worldview hadn’t shifted overnight.
She didn’t know. She couldn’t know.
There was no way she had butt-dialled me on purpose, right? No way she knew what I’d heard. But what if she suspected? What if she was saying things like good girl just to watch me unravel? Was I unraveling? It definitely felt like I was unraveling.
“You’re awfully quiet.”
Lilia’s voice cut through my spiralling thoughts, and I nearly jumped, clutching the cloth like it was a lifeline.
“I’m—I'm fine,” I croaked, too fast, too awkward.
She glanced at me with a raised brow, then tilted her head, curls slipping over her shoulder in that careless, elegant way she always managed. “Mm.” Her lips quirked, amused but not prying, yet. “If you say so.”
I nodded too quickly, ducking my head and wiping the same spot on the shelf three times. Play it cool. Play it cool. She doesn’t know.
Lilia, completely oblivious to the chaos in my head, twirled one of her rings around her finger absentmindedly, watching me with a curious little smile. “You really didn’t sleep well, did you?”
I froze. Oh god. “What makes you say that?”
She shrugged, returning to fussing with the display, adjusting a vase by a fraction of an inch before stepping back with a satisfied nod. “You’ve got that look.”
“What look?” I tried to keep my voice casual, but I was fairly sure I sounded like I was moments away from combusting.
Lilia turned, resting her elbows on the counter and watching me with a thoughtful expression. “The same one you get when you’re overthinking things. Your brow does this little... crinkle.”
My hand shot up to my forehead instinctively. “It does not.”
Her lips twitched. “Oh, it does.”
I groaned under my breath, focusing aggressively on the shelf in front of me. “It’s nothing. Just... a long night.”
She hummed knowingly. “Ah, still recovering from the art gala. I imagine it was... stimulating. Those events tend to linger, don’t they.”
I choked. “What?”
Lilia blinked, completely innocent. “The art. Your friends.” She paused. “The drinks?”
I stared at her, searching for even the tiniest flicker of something, anything , that might indicate she was toying with me. But she just looked... normal. Perfectly composed. Like she hadn’t called me in the middle of the night and—
I swallowed hard, nodding. “Yeah. Stimulating.”
Lilia tilted her head, eyes twinkling. “You’re acting strange.”
“I’m not.”
“You are.” She leaned a little closer, lowering her voice conspiratorially. “Are you in trouble? Did you get up to mischief?”
My entire existence was mischief at this point. “No.”
Lilia pursed her lips, clearly not convinced, but she didn’t press. Instead, she gently adjusted the sleeve of her robe, glancing at the clock. “Well, whatever it is, baby, I’m sure it’ll sort itself out.”
There it was again. Baby. My knees nearly gave out.
I swallowed hard, gripping the edge of the shelf. Focus.
To make things worse, she strolled over, close enough that I could smell the faint scent of her, something warm, a little floral, a little spicy, something that was so Lilia it made my head spin. She picked up a crystal from the display I was supposed to be fixing and turned it over in her hands.
“This one’s nice,” she mused, running her fingers along the edges. Then, without missing a beat, she handed it to me. “For stress.”
I blinked. “I’m not stressed.”
She smiled, and it was the kind of smile that said she knew I was lying through my teeth. “Of course not.”
I took the crystal anyway, staring at it like it might offer me some divine clarity.
Lilia lingered for a moment longer, then gave a satisfied nod. “Well, I’m off to pretend I’m being productive in the back. Call if you need me.”
I watched her disappear behind the curtain, releasing the breath I didn’t realise I was holding. The second she was out of sight, I dropped my head onto the counter and groaned into my arms.
What the hell was I supposed to do with this?
She didn’t know.
And yet, somehow, it felt like she was winning a game I didn’t even know we were playing.
I sighed, rolling the crystal in my palm, muttering under my breath. “Progress. It’s progress.”
Because she wasn’t avoiding me. And if this was how she wanted to play it?
Fine. Two could play that game.
For now.

[ EctoberHaunt 2024 Banner ]
Hi hiii~ I get to draw the banner again for @ectoberhaunt this year~ It was a lot of fun :DD
I wasn't sure how to incorporate the gold and silver at first but I think it turn out pretty good
Also thank you to Enn for helping me with the flats I would've pewished ksjadnaksj Sketches and some ramblings under cut

Here's the initial sketch for the banner. I tried my best to keep it close to the sketch or at least have the same energy (hopefully qwq)
As you can see, I drew Sam and Tucker riding a scooter bike originally. But the banner, I try to get as close to canon design as possible. I could not for the live of me remember what episode has the scooter bike. And.. turns out I might've just misremembered the scooter as a motor bike? so I just draw the scooter lol
(This is from the Killer Garage Sale episode btw. I couldn't find the scooter's pict on the wiki so I gotta screenshot it from the episode)
Also speaking of couldn't find reference pictures in the fandom wiki,
I couldn't find pictures of the college trio full body screenshots there. Only the Vlad leaning into the portal while Maddie and Jack looked away. Very useful references, yes.
I used to think that Jack was the worst one here about lab safety (considering he was the main reason the portal exploded on Vlad's face), but Maddie is no better after watching the episode again. Girlie wear big round earrings and leg warmers in the lab. Pretty sure that's... not very safety. Vlad is not better since he does lean very close into the radiation portal so... lol
Anyway, I tried to incorporate their dynamics in the banner. Jack the very excited one and leading the ghost hunt, Maddie following along with more ghost gears, and Vlad... well, I was thinking Vlad could be the 'rational' of the trio and like brings stuffs the other two wouldn't have thought to bring out of excitement (i.e. flashlights in case they need to go through pitch black tunnel so they don't fall off etc etc)
But... you know, that's giving Vlad too many points than he deserves lol. So, I draw Vlad still bringing the bag of extra stuffs, but it's not fully closed so some stuffs fell off on their trails. They all should share braincells and Vlad does not get a turn lol
Also changed Maddie's clothes and give her the teal suit to match Jack and also looks better when she's running
There's not much I can say about the main trio process? I mostly just want Sam to be the one driving the scooter while Tucker handles the navigations or sth. They get to ride scooters to catch up with Danny~
Danny and Tucker's colors a bit ashy bc I color picked them from low res screenshots askjdnaksj I fixed em on the final tho so yea
O yeah, I don't know if it's visible on the final art, but I initially try to give the kids warm shadings and cold lighting (Silver), and the college trio cold shadows and warm lighting (Gold) to fit the themes.
Also the light source.. sorta? The adults has the light source from behind them bc they are in past/past the age in the drawings? And the kids has their light source from in front of them, going into the future and the many things ahead of them kajsdnaksd

moving away from home was one of the hardest things for you to do. it was what you had known your entire life, but college was an exciting new time. you thought it would be a fresh start, you would be able to make new friends and not be held back by some of the rumors and different issues that living in a small town held. you wanted to experience the world and maybe you were a little naive, but you thought the world would be good for you. welcome weekend was what really fucked you over. everyone was asked to go around and share a fact about themselves on the auditorium stage and as you were walking up your shirt caught on the stairway and ripped. you were so embarrassed you cried, people recorded and this quickly spread around campus. you were labeled the “cry baby” of campus. so much for getting a fresh start right? nope!
it had been three weeks since the semester started and honestly you tried to avoid the stares and laughs, you figured that the other students would eventually move on from your little mishap but in the age of smartphones no way. you even became a bit of a campus meme, the worst group of them all had to be the dance team. the first person to post the video to social media? none other than jake. he didn’t think it would get as big as it did and well it even got him a little more credibility on campus. you just wanted to keep your head down and the library was one of the best places to do that, you had been practically living in your dorm and in the library. you were enjoying the silence. enter nishimura riki, the it-boy of the freshman clas, he casually made his way over to you and pulled a book from the shelf next to where you were standing.
he was the newest member of the dance crew and all everyone had been talking about. ‘jungwon made such a good choice as captain letting him on the team.’ ‘we are so qualifying this year’ ‘he’s just so dreamy’ those are just some of the things you’ve heard. your gaze shifted to him only for a second before you grabbed the book you needed and started to head back towards the table you had claimed. “y/n.. that’s your name right?” ni-ki spoke up. you stopped to look at him and arched an eyebrow slightly, nodding your head. “yeah, that would be me.” you prepared yourself to get the cry baby comment or some kind of joke, but he walked over and examined your book. “oh this is actually the one i need too. think we could sit together and look it over?” he set the book in his hand on empty carts at the side of the column.
you were a bit shocked that he would be wanting to do an optional reading for class, the professor made sure to emphasize that this reading wasn’t required but could help students get a better grasp on the concepts. “sure?” you sounded a little hesitant because you were. maybe ni-ki wasn’t a bad guy and truthfully needed the book for class just like you. the pair of you walked over to the table and you opened it up to the page that you needed. “you need this for intro to society too right?” you questioned to see if he was taking the same basic sociology class you were. “yup and look at that you’ve got the page right and everything.” he flashed a smile.
the pair of you read the book only speaking to indicate when it was okay to turn the page. it was nice, having an interaction with someone that wasn’t just trying to make fun of you. after two hours of powering through the book you both reached the end and you closed the book. “well that was nice.” he stated as he leaned back in his chair a little. “yeah, it was nice.” you admitted before tapping your fingers on the table a little bit of anxiety building in your stomach. “you know you are pretty cool y/n. we should go out sometime.”
his words sent a little bit of panic through you mainly because you knew that talking with him could impact his social status on campus or bring on more taunting. then you were fighting with the implication, is he asking you in a friendly way or in a date kind of way? you sat there for a second. “did i break you y/n? shit that was so not what i was trying to do.” he was sat forward now examining your face. “no, no, i heard you and am not broken.” you replied and glanced back to him. “just don’t think it would be a good idea for us to go out.” you stood up to go return the book from where you found it. he stood and followed you right over to the shelf. “oh come on y/n, afraid that people will tease me too? i really don’t care about any of that. you are cool and we shared a book doesn’t that mean anything to you?” he was talking in a bit more of a teasing tone at the end. you couldn’t help but roll your eyes playfully because that was cheesy. “okay then we can go out.” you shouldn’t cave so easily but honestly you are just a girl. “great it’s a date then.” he winked.
you two had exchanged numbers before you left the library and set a plan of when you were going out. everything about this made you nervous but excited. was this really happening? the coolest guy in the freshman class wanted to take you out on a date? it seemed too good to be true. you spent hours getting ready for this date and the pair of you went out. the date was a simple move theater then dinner date. you two had a great time, the conversation at dinner flowed so naturally. he had you laughing, you made him laugh in return. it was nice being out with someone that didn’t just see you as a joke. he walked you back to your dorm and before he left you two kissed. you felt the butterflies in your stomach and the whole nine yards.
two months passed and several more dates occurred within those months. you never saw this coming, but there you were on the quad with ni-ki laid out under you and your head rested on his stomach as you laid down as well reading your book. the two of you were all the campus could talk about. “we are throwing this party tonight to celebrate winning our latest comp.” he said which pulled you from your book, “oh yeah? well i would love to come with you if that is what you are asking.” you looked up to him with a warm smile. a smile that ni-ki had grown so accustomed to. he had fallen for you and if only you knew everything he knew that you probably wouldn’t feel the same anymore. he sat up which had you sitting up as well and he admired you with a smile of his own, “you make me so happy y/n. you know that right?” you weren’t sure where this was coming from but you leaned in to give his lips a little peck. “yeah, yeah nishimura. i have a class to get to.” you stood and then leaned down to give him another peck on the lips. “see you later?” you asked but didn’t wait for an answer before walking backwards to start heading away from you. “yeah.” he waved you off and went back to laying down to look at the sky.
he wasn’t sure how he was going to tell you the truth, all of this started with a bet. he was hanging out with all the guys and jake showed everyone the video. they all laughed about it, ni-ki included. “you want to prove yourself to be one of us?” jay said while leaning his arms on his knees and the rest of the guys started to pick up what was about to go down. “get cry baby to go out with you.” he continued and everyone else was laughing. “oh my god that would be so funny actually. you should so do it.” sunghoon chimed in. ni-ki wanting to be accepted by these older much cooler guys agreed. “i could totally get her to go out with me, easy. i’ll do you one better i’ll get her to actually fall in love with me too.” god how he regretted that day now, he felt like he was walking on eggshells. it was only a matter of time before someone slipped and told you and he didn’t want to lose you. while he was trying to get you to fall in love with him he did something that would ruin everything, he fell for you.
later that night after all your classes and getting ready for what felt like forever you headed to the frat where the party was being hosted. you went inside and started looking around for ni-ki but instead found jay and jake by the drinks table. jake was a little loaded and that made him a little louder than normal. “Y/N! YOU’RE HERE!” he was basically shouting and leaning on jay for the support. “hey jake.. you doing okay there buddy?” you gave a pointed look and jay made a little face while shaking his head to indicate that this boy was long gone. you had gotten to know the rest of the guys and much to their surprise they liked you. the guilt of the bet weighed on all of them too, but they tried to ignore the elephant in the room. heeseung came walking over to see the drunk jake and jay supporting him. “need some help with that one?” he pointed to jake literally just hanging off jay. “you know it we should get him some water.” jay replied and you spoke up. “let me go get him some. you two just make sure he stays upright.”
you pushed through to the kitchen and came back with bottled water. they had gotten jake seated on a couch. “oh have you guys seen ni-ki?” you questioned. they all shook their heads and jake decided to speak up. “naurr but i am so glad you two are dating. i mean to think this all started because jay thought you were some looooser and bet ni-ki that he couldn’t get you to date him. oh! and im sorry for posting that video of you.” he was pouting and batting his eyes. “don’t hate me.” jay and heeseung’s faces both looked so shocked and heeseung literally put his hand over jake’s mouth. your mouth fell open a little as you tried to process everything that was just said. ‘some loser’ ‘a bet’ those words burned and you felt like your heart was shattering right there. “i should go.” you forced a little smile and handed the water over to jay, backing away from them. “y/n wait..” jay spoke up but you had already turned and started to rush towards the exit.
you thought that things were different with ni-ki, that he was one of the only people that actually gave you a chance. he made you feel safe and loved, he was someone you could just talk to for hours. was all of this just some silly little game to him? was your heart just something he could toy with? as you were walking out of the party, ni-ki was on his way in. his eyes caught a glimpse of you and he went to take your hand, “y/n where are you going?” you stayed right there your back to him, hand in his and using every ounce of strength you had to keep your tears in. “was it worth it?” your voice sounded so broken and he was confused until his phone buzzed, he glazed over the text from heeseung explaining what just happened. he shoved his phone right back into his pocket and he moved to stand in front of you, his hand still holding yours. “y/n, baby, i can explain.”
him moving to be in front of you wasn’t helping because now glancing up at him the tears just started to cascade down your cheeks. “explain? explain what? that you made a bet that you could date me? guess what riki, you fucking did that didn’t you? i bet you are so proud of yourself. god just leave me alone. i never want to see you again.” you shoved his hand away from yours and walked off leaving behind the boy you fell in love with and any shred of hope that people were still good.
it had been three days since the party and your phone had been blowing up with messages from all of the guys. ni-ki had messaged the first day just a few times asking if the two of you could talk, but when you ignored him for the fifth time he got the hint. he was a mess too and you knew it only because the rest of the guys were messaging you over and over saying that this was their fault not ni-ki’s. that wasn’t helping any considering he could have said no. you had skipped your classes the last two days which is not like you in the slightest, but professors had to understand you just had your heart ripped out so that’s basically a medical emergency right? maybe this would have been easier if you had made some actual friends on campus, but the friends you made were the boys and obviously didn’t trust any of them right now either.
you did the one thing you could think to do, packed up a bag and took the first flight home. you needed to get away from campus and have a slight reset. home was going to give that to you, there was no ni-ki there, none of the guys to come knock on your door, just you and your family. after the third day home you were starting to feel a little better. the feelings of betrayal were still very much there and you played a card game and when you won your instinct was to text ni-ki to let him know, but you couldn’t exactly do that. a big part of you missed what you had with him. you just had to remind yourself that it was probably all just fake.
there was a knock on the door and your mom went to get it, you were on the couch reading to get caught up on some of your classwork. “y/n, honey it’s for you.” your mom called out which confused you because you weren’t expecting anyone. you got up and made your way over to the door pausing when you saw none other than ni-ki standing there. your mom had walked away when you made it to the door and you stared at him, “what are you doing here? how did you even find my house?” you questioned in a hushed tone. “well i remember you talking about it when we went on our first date. you said that you lived in the old house with the handprints in the sidewalk and named the street so.. i just walked down the street until i found the handprints.” you stepped outside and closed the door behind yourself, crossing your arms over your stomach. he remembered that? most people wouldn’t care to remember a detail like that. you needed to push that delusion from your head, he doesn’t care. or does he?
“i tried to give you your space, i really did and honestly sunoo told me flying here was a terrible idea, but it’s been almost a week and i am losing my mind y/n. none of it was fake.. nothing i said or did with you was fake. i know it started with not the best intentions and honestly i should have told you the minute i fell for you, but i didn’t want to lose you because i’m an idiot that took a bet.” he was rambling just a little and you were focused on the fact that he said he fell for you and it was real. everything he said and did with you was real. “you mean it?” you spoke finally which cut him off from going to say something else. “of course i mean it. i am so in love with you y/n that i literally hopped on a flight to go to some town i’ve never been to to walk up and down a street in hopes of finding the girl of my dreams.”
you were hesitating on forgiving him because you weren’t completely sure if he was telling the truth, but your heart was screaming to forgive him because to be honest you are in love with him too. every little moment you two shared, every kiss, all the late night talks, the times you shared books, it was all just so comforting. “if you ever break my heart again nishimura riki i swear i won’t let you back in.” you moved in a little and he did as well. “i swear on everything in this world i won’t break your heart again.” the two of you shared a soft and sweet kiss on the door step. his hands on your waist, yours finding the comfortable spot around his shoulders. when your lips parted he smiled at you and you felt that happiness creeping back in. “so uh.. when am i going to meet my future in-laws?” he smirked as you gave him a teasing glace.

The rain poured down like a thousand waterfalls, fog filling the air as you tried to find your way through the old abandoned village, Leon leaning on you, his hand clamped to his side as the rain and his blood drenched your black shirt in a mean color. You had to find shelter, to tend Leon’s wounds, to warm up in the cold winter storm. You were lucky there wasn’t snow involved yet, lucky that the mission was a success and that you were safe, sort of.
You looked beside you, Leon’s feet slumped on the ground his boots brown and covered in mud his socks were already soaked and probably very uncomfortable. You praised yourself for getting water-resistant boots before the mission. Leon held his wound covering it the best he could after you told him to keep pressure on it. His face contorted into a painful look his eyes closing every once and a while as he breathed out shacky breaths.
“Just hold on a bit longer”, you whispered although it was barely audible above the pounding sound of the rain.
Leon had been your partner for over a year now, working together on missions nonstop.
The first time he got to work with you on a mission he was flustered non-stop, trying to shrug off your comments, and flirtations because you did and said it to everyone…right?
Well technically true, but you did like Leon, maybe not that much at first, but he kind of grew on you, and so did his blush.
Besides the flirty comments from you, you guys were a pretty great team, greater them most, hence why you were sent on missions together so much.
This brings us to where you and he are today, on a mission to retrieve some stolen virus, you didn’t have much details, just what it looked like, and you were supposed to bring it back in one piece for research. You had worked for the D.S.O. long enough now that you knew not to ask too many questions.
The mission was supposed to be short and easy, you did the first part without any setbacks and finally, you were happy to wrap this up and go back to your apartment and relax. Maybe go to the bar if you are in the mood, maybe invite Leon to the bar? yeah, why not? You had formed a plan in your head already, it wouldn’t be out of character for you to ask him, your flirtations were honestly just part of your and Leon’s routine by now. But your whole plan was destroyed when a storm came up making it impossible for the chopper to even get close to you and Leon. You were stuck.
Your relationship with your work partner was honestly fun, you were always happy to work with Leon, not only was Leon brave and sweet (and can kick like a mf). He was also funny, and ever since you started working with Leon you actually started to enjoy your job.
Leon joined your team very early on at the age of 24, making you a bit more protective of him sometimes. "He’s just a kid", you’d say to your superiors every time Leon got dispatched on another life-threatening mission even though you weren’t even 3 years older than him.
It started off as just harmless comments about Leon’s looks or just cheesy one-liners, eventually, Leon even started to form a few of his oneliners making you grin every time because yes they were bad, so bad that it was funny. But the more you were around Leon the more you started to care about him, even when you didn’t want to admit it, even when you thought you weren’t capable of ever falling in love, even when you didn’t want to, you’ve fallen for the guy, literally and figuratively.
The sun that had previously been shining was completely gone, you squinted your eyes trying to figure your the environment. The village that once was beautiful and would be a beautiful one to live in was now cold and decayed. The old cabins were barely holding up, especially with this weather. The wood creaked threatening to fall apart, even with centuries on its back the storm seemed to penetrate.
Suddenly you spotted a house in the distance. It was bigger, the roof painted with green tiles instead of the straw roofing of the rest of the houses. The house is made of brick instead of wood standing steady in the rain.
Your eyes darted back to Leon who still had a look of pain on his face. “You’re gonna be okay”, you reassured yourself more than Leon, you weren’t even sure if he could even hear you, you’d be surprised if he did.
You quickly made your way over to the house. You opened the door in a swift motion, your footsteps hard on the wooden floor as the water fell down on the ground with every step you took. The door slammed closed immediately the strong wind pulling it back with a hard smack. You let out a breath you didn’t even know you were holding once the dry atmosphere of the house surrounded you. It was almost as if you had put headphones on that damped the environment, inside the house it was quiet, with no sign of danger. It was dark inside, you struggled to see anything. Your body was working faster than your head. You turned a corner leading up to the stairs, Leon was groaning in your ear as you almost dragged him up the steps. A slim hallway led to one door upstairs, you grasped the walls trying to stabilize yourself as you held on to Leon.
The room at the end of the hall was as you suspected a bedroom. The sheets were a nice green the same color as the roof, this house seemed clean and new like the people had just left a few days ago. The sheets seemed brand new the wooden bed frame carved. You sat Leon down on the bed gently laying him down, not caring that his blood stained the sheets. “You’re gonna be okay”, you reassured again to which Leon responded with a grunt.
The side of his abdomen did not look good. You got a few test tubes filled with herbs out and lit a candle on the bedside table giving off just enough light to see Leon’s wound.
You went to work immediately giving Leon a few sorry’s as you slowly lifted up his shirt. He was apparently horrible at staying quiet because with everything you did, he groaned or let out whimpers even after you numbed the wound he just couldn’t keep quiet. It was certainly something you would have to remember in the future.
“There ya go, all better”, you said as you wrapped up the wound nice and clean. Proudly looking back at your work, you were certainly no medic but it was less worse than you expected mostly because it was a fairly small cut and not that deep.
“Thanks, doc”, Leon joked back to which you gave a wink. “I’m going to double check the house,” you said already standing up to walk away, grabbing your flashlight and toying with it in your hand. “You’ll be all right here?”
“Yeah I’m fine”, Leon responded his voice slightly hoarse. “You’re always fine”, you quipped back with a grin and quickly left the room, missing Leon’s eye roll.
You thoroughly checked the house and even booted up the windows that were threatening to break with the gushing wind. Going back upstairs you tried to contact Hunnigan again but there seemed to be no signal.
Leon was sitting up on the bed his radio in his hands as well. “Got signal?” You leaned back against the wall observing as Leon fiddled with the buttons. “Nope,” he sighed. Upon looking down at your watch you were shocked to find out it was already around midnight. The storm had combined day and night in one big tornado.
“It’s getting late,” You ran a hand through your hair as you spoke. “You should get some sleep, let your body heal.” You walked around to the large fireplace placed in front of the bed, shoving some wood in and catching Leon’s eyes as you glanced back. “What about you?”
“Don’t worry about me, get your beauty sleep”, you replied with a cheeky grin as you got your lighter out.
“We can take shifts-“
“Not necessary, just sleep Leon”, you shot a look back cutting Leon’s sentence off. Leon let out a small scoff. But the bed shifted, and the small clang of a radio being placed on the nightstand was heard. You smiled to yourself as you sat down knowing Leon wasn’t fighting back anymore, leaning against the bed frame as you sat on the wooden floor. The fire illuminated the room in a warm color but left the corners dark and unpredictable.
The fire crackled over the sound of the rain against the one window in the room as a loud thunder erupted from the clouds. The fire was hot against your skin even when you weren’t even sitting close to it, it left a tingling feeling on your cheek as you felt your damp hair already dry together with your clothes.
It was only then that you realized you were still wearing your cold wet clothes. It stuck to your skin as you tried to remove your tactical harness clipping it and letting it sit by the fire, you took off your belt, shoes, and socks as well as your shirt.
Even when your pants felt like hell right now you didn’t want to take them off, not with Leon in the same room. So there you were laying your clothes by the fire leaving you in only your cargo pants.
“What are you doing” a voice croaked from the bed making you chuckle, you didn’t bother to look back instead staring into the flames. “Drying my clothes”, you responded. “Are you naked right now?!” Leon’s voice was high pitched which made you laugh.
“Yep, I’m totally naked, dick out and everything”.
“Are you being serious right now?!”
You looked over your shoulder and could barely see Leon his face flush and turned away from you. Leon took the silence as an answer. “You weren’t serious were you?”, Leon sighed.
“You can check”, you invited keeping a strict eye on Leon to see if he would actually turn around. And slowly but surely you saw Leon’s head move just to take a quick glance. He immediately retracted his steps once he was watching. “You pervert!” You dramatically said taking a fake look of disbelief on your face.
Leon covered his face with his hands hiding away from you. “How dare you!”, you placed your hand on your chest acting like you were deeply disturbed.
“You’re the one undressing next to me!” Leon said anxiously making you erupt out in laughter which he automatically mirrored.
“Go to sleep!” you laughed back.
That night you didn’t sleep not that it mattered anyway because it seemed you and Leon were stuck. That’s right, you had watched the entire night with an aw-struck face as you watched the snow fall down. The ground was already covered with multiple inches of perfect white snow when morning came. And still, the storm went on and rain and snow came together with mud making the beautiful clear ice turn a dirty brown.
By the time Leon woke up you had already gotten to explore the whole house finding enough food to last for at least a week, and by the looks of it, you would be stuck here for a while.
Leon and you kept tight in the bedroom since the fire was the only thing keeping you warm right now. You and Leon sat by the fireplace as you handed him some random can of soup you found and warmed up above the fireplace while holding one for yourself as well.
“How long do you think we’re stuck here?”
You shrugged looking outside the window again the blizzard had covered the houses making the scenery seem nicer somehow. Specs of snow and ice slashed across the sky riding the heavy wind.
“For however long that storm is”, you lifted the spoon to your mouth softly blowing it before letting it touch your lips.
“And then just hope that we can get some sort of signal.” You sighed as you spoke the situation was really not looking good.
“We’ll figure something out”, Leon replied back hopeful making you smile. He was always more optimistic kind of funny how he can still be even now.
You sat in silence, sipping your soup while the fire brought warmth to both of you, sitting on the ground in front of the fireplace. It kind of reminded you of Christmas as a kid you’d sit in front of the fireplace waiting for Santa and playing in the snow outside later.
Your eyes trailed back to Leon who was looking out the window, lost in thought as well. You decided it was time to strike up some conversation again before the silence became too much.
“How’s your wound?”
Leon’s head turned back to you and down to his side as if he initially didn’t know what you were talking about. “Yeah it’s fine”, Leon nodded as he spoke. “At least not infected so that’s good” he spoke with slight cheerfulness in his tone his hair moving with his head as he spoke.
“You got lucky,” you grinned. “My very professional medical skills saved you.”, you said proudly.
“Ah, yes, of course, where would I be without you?” Leon questioned back raising an eyebrow. “Probably Dead. So you should thank me honestly for saving you” You took another spoon of soup holding eye contact with Leon as you did. “Oh how will I ever repay you my brave hero”, he said putting his hand on his forehead as he dramatically spoke.
“Oh I certainly have some ideas”, you mumbled to yourself stirring your soup. Leon became quiet and you could quite literally see the redness slowly creeping on his face.
After the wonderful breakfast soup, you and Leon decided to talk about a plan.
“I want to go outside and see if we can find any help” Leon announced putting down his knife on the downstairs table.
You raised an eyebrow “You can’t be serious, do you see that blizzard?”
"Yeah well I want to check it out, maybe it’s not that bad, and maybe I can get a signal or something.”, Leon replied back sternly looking directly into your eyes with his blue orbs.
“There’s no point, Leon, it’s best to just wait it out.”, you argued back, and your argument was true but to be honest you just didn’t want Leon to get hurt.
“But what if they already sent help and they’re already here,” Leon placed his hands on the table leaning slightly as he looked up at you.
You pinched the bridge of your nose, sighing, already tired of Leon’s stubbornness. “You’re still injured,” you pointed down to his side.
“It’s nothing, why won’t you just let me go?”, Leon was slightly raising his voice. You leaned back against the kitchen wall your eyes piercing Leon’s in a silent battle of who would look away first. “You could get hypothermia.” Leon just scoffed at that, leaning back as well, standing up straight as if to look more intimidating which he definitely didn’t, well maybe if you were shorter but you’re taller than him so it just looked kind of silly. (I can’t take short people seriously)
“I’ll be back in less than an hour I promise,” You opened your mouth to speak but he interrupted you again holding up a hand to silence you. “And-, and I won’t go too far.”, he put on his puppy eyes which made you break away.
“Fine,” you gritted through your teeth, ignoring how Leon smiled as he won the argument. “But if you die on me I’m gonna be real mad.”
“Yeah, yeah” Leon nodded putting on his jacket and backpack as well as all his tackle gear. “Be careful.” Leon gave you a firm nod before closing the door behind him with a loud slam.
The house felt even more quiet now.
After an hour passed you started to get nervous he was supposed to be back already. It was stupid how much you were stressing out, walking circles in the bedroom profusely looking outside the window for any sign of Leon in the blizzard. You kept checking your watch over and over. When two hours had passed you started to freak out, contemplating if you should go out in the snow to try and find it.
Just as you were going downstairs to get your equipment and go after Leon the door opened. Leon was standing in the doorway cold wind grasped your hair to stand up in your skin. Leon was absolutely trembling, not looking at you.
“Jezus Leon”, you quickly ran over swiftly closing the door and looking at Leon to check for injuries. “Are you okay? You had me worried”, you patted down his arms checking to see if he was fine, he was he just seemed very cold, shivering. “Help” he breathed out, you quickly realized what was going on, you had even warned him about it. “Shit.” You quickly picked him up into your arm heading upstairs in a record of time, the fire was still going. “How bad is it?” You asked sitting Leon down on the bed and taking off his soaked coat that was covered in snow and ice by now.
“I don’t know, one moment I was fine, and then suddenly-“ Leon groaned as your warm fingers touched his now naked arm. “Sorry,” you mumbled back. You got down on one knee and roughly got off Leon’s boots and set them aside. His socks were absolutely soaked you were impressed that he still had all his toes. “Can you move?” You stood up straight noticing how Leon was already staring at you when you made eye contact. Leon gave you a small nod. “It just hurts when I do.”
You held out your arm, signaling for Leon to balance himself with it if needed. “Stand up.” Leon leaned on you as you helped him get up. Your hands went down trying not to think of what you were doing, you were trained for this, it was protocol. But still, you couldn’t help but look away as you fiddled with the button of Leon’s pants, and then the zipper. You were trying to act as nonchalant as possible keeping up a stern face when in reality you were getting sweaty.
“You’re real stupid you know that?”, you asked going down in a swift motion to peel Leon’s wet cargo pants off. “I told you this would happen,” you continued guiding Leon to sit back down again so that you could remove his pants completely. “But you just had to check,” your eyes met his again he was blushing profusely hugging himself with his shivering arms.
“Lay down,” it was more of a command now because you were getting pissed off. Leon obediently did as you said laying down on the bed leaving enough room for you. After wrapping Leon under the warm covers and getting every blanket you could find you finally scooted up behind him trying to warm him as your clothes chest pressed against his exposed back. You couldn’t see Leon’s face but you already knew what he was looking like. You wrapped your arms around him, just like you learned in training, well maybe not totally but hey, this was life or death, right?
“Well?”
“What?”, Leon questioned back confused as you kept spooning him.
“Was it worth it? Did you find anything? Anyone?”
He stayed quiet for a while before finally responding. “No”
You scoffed and Leon could feel your hot breath on his neck as you did. “Then what was even the point”, you said disappointed.
Leon was getting fed up al this backlash from you only made him in an even worse mood, even when he was flustered with your arms around him he still found a way to be annoyed, or rather you found a way to be annoying. “You just got hurt for nothing”
Finally, Leon snapped he turned around. “Why do you care?!” His face was almost fuming but his eyebrows were scrunched up in confusion. You suddenly felt bad, and mostly embarrassed by the fact that his face was mere inches away from you. “Because-“ You couldn’t find the right reason even when there were a thousand you just couldn’t bring yourself to speak.
And the way Leon was looking at you right now definitely didn’t help, it stayed quiet Leon keeping strict eye contact with you while you kept finding other places to look at. apparently, Leon wasn’t faced at all by the fact you were so close and by the fact that you could just lean in and-
You noticed a change in Leon’s face his eyes averted down to your lips, and your heart raced in your chest. “I think we both know why”, you whispered making Leon look back into your eyes again while a faint blush painted his cheeks. He leaned in and immediately you did too, meeting him halfway into a heated kiss, even when his lips were cold you brought him all the warmth he needed.
You kept your lips connected with Leon as you propped yourself up on one elbow your head hovering over Leon as you penetrated Leon’s mouth, your hot tongue warming the inside of Leon’s mouth pulling out soft noises from Leon that went straight to your dick.
You tried to pull away to catch your breath or say something but Leon’s lips were on you before you could even process what was happening both his hands in your messy hair. You groaned as Leon pushed you as close as he could his body bare body pressed against yours under the sheets.
You pulled away again this time going straight for Leon’s neck, Leon’s head fell back into the pillow, and finally, you could hear all the noises he was making in his small pants and that soft whimper when you sucked too hard on his sensitive skin.
It felt like a dream, because you had dreamt about it very many times maybe that’s why your brain had trouble processing the situation.
“Fuck,” you groaned, “I’ve wanted to do this for a long time”
“Oh yeah how long?”, Leon breathed back, you looked back up, one of your legs between Leon’s legs, your senses were heightened as your lips trailed further down leaving wet open kisses on Leon’s now warm skin, keeping eye contact with the younger man. “You don’t want to know,” you replied with a grumble as you sat up on your knees your eyes averting to admire the view in front of you.
Leon’s muscles tensed his face red his semi-hard erection pulsing through his boxers. “How far do you want to take this?” You asked your knees between Leon’s legs.
Leon rested his body on his elbows the bed shifting in weight as he did. “I want to take this however far it can go”
You grinned leaning back down to meet Leon’s lips again making Leon tilt his head further back to deepen the kiss. Your hand traveled down Leon’s abs going over his abdomen and touching every bit of skin that you could get your grubby hands on. You toyed a bit with the edge of Leon’s waistband just to test Leon’s patience for a bit. “Please-” and there you had your answer so you complied your hand slid under the fabric making a whine escape from Leon’s mouth.
You started panting yourself your heart beating loudly in your chest as your head dipped down to Leon’s collarbone nipping at the skin there as your hand started stroking his length. Leon closed his eyes his hot breath on your neck. Everything turned out hot and sweaty, you didn’t know how it was possible in this condition but it did.
“Ah, shit” Leon’s voice was raspy and much higher than normal his face had a pathetic look on it like he was just asking to be fucked with his eyes, which he probably did on purpose. You kept a firm rith knowing better than to rush yourself.
The fire made small cozy noises in the background, and all of a sudden you were happy to be stranded with Leon because now no one could interrupt you, nobody could come and ruin your fun.
You smirked at the thought. “Fuck, please!” Leon mewled out.
“What is it, baby? What do you want?” You again leaned backward admiring Leon’s erotic expression, his lips slightly parted, he wasn’t looking at you almost as if he was ashamed. “Use your words come on Leon”, you grinned as your hand sped up making Leon sputter our more choked moans.
“You’re usually so talkative..” you teased leaning closer to his face. “Spit it out baby” As much as you encouraged Leon still seemed like he wasn’t obliging. You raised an eyebrow as Leon stayed quiet. So you decided to take matters into your own hands or rather out of your hand.
You redirected your hand out Leon’s underwear finally grabbing Leon’s attention.
“No, no wait” Leon tried to get your hand back, reaching out for your wrist but you dodged his grabs and clicked your tongue in disapproval. You sat back with a slight smirk sitting on the bed your eyes piercing through Leon as he hesitantly looked at you. “Please-“ “What?” Again you raised an eyebrow seating your hands behind you on the bed. “You’ll have to tell me if you want me to continue” Leon looked at you stubbornly his eyes following the messy sheets of the bed before they met yours again. His dignity was fading by the second and Leon couldn’t figure out whether he liked it or not.
Leon’s puppy eyes met yours as he sat in shame “Touch me,” he mumbled out your lips perked up. You could press him on for more but you felt satisfied with the small response Leon had given you. “Good boy”, you praised signing him over to you as you patted the space between your legs. “C’mere,” Leon happily obliged, he sat down his back pressed against your chest as your hands immediately went down his body again.
Your chin rested on his shoulder watching everything you were doing to that poor boy. “That wasn’t so hard now was it?”, Leon shook his head biting his lips as your hands caressed down again. “Words Leon,” you said gripping his shaft. “Ah! Yes, it-“Leon let out another choked moan his head falling back onto your shoulder his hair tickling the side of your face.
Leon was trembling in your grip his legs shaking as you embraced him, your free hand found one of Leon’s tits squeezing the muscle, massaging slowly as your fingers crept closer to his sensitive nubs, your rough fingers teasingly rubbing circles around the red ring making Leon’s heart pound loudly.
The house creaked slightly the stone walls keeping you safe from the cold and whatever the fuck else was out there.
“Fuck-, please fuck me”, Leon said his words reaching your ears but going straight down. You wanted to fuck his tight little asshole so fucking bad, to make Leon feel you for at least a few days, to truly penetrate him. But atlas you were hesitant, you knew Leon had experience so did you, but maybe this was just not the right setting, you were still in a workspace, and above all that Leon had just recovered from hypothermia.
“Lee, I’m not sure”, You said your mouth stuck to his neck like glue. “We don’t got any lube or anything, I don’t wanna hurt you,” you replied genuinely concerned. “I don't care just- please,” the corner of his eyes caught yours in an utter most desperate look. And how could you say no to that?
“So stubborn”, you mumbled with amusement. You let out a small sigh your hand slowing down and reaching up. You kissed Leon’s cheek and Leon turned his head back slightly so you could properly kiss him. “Okay, we’ll start slow yeah? See where it goes”, you said making sure Leon heard every word. Leon nodded and you looked at him for a second waiting for him to catch on. “Right, yeah, words”, Leon nodded his head hanging. “yeah, no that sounds good” he answered with a boyish smile.
“Great, now open up.” Leon was opening his mouth to protest but before he could get a word out of his throat you shoved your middle finger and pointer in his mouth without any warning, well technically you did give him a warning.
Leon moaned around your fingers his eyes closing as his tongue swirled around your fingers, his mouth adjusting to the taste and shape. You looked at him with a face of pride as you let him suck off your fingers. Once you got bored with it and the top of your fingers were starting to form water wrinkles, you removed your fingers releasing with a small plop a string of saliva that connected your skin to Leon’s lips before you broke it and moved them down.
You went with patients at least you tried to, it was hard when there was a get moaning and whimpering in your ear with every move you made. One finger slid in easily, Leon tensed and shook everyone and a while shivers rolled up his spine as your finger moved to stretch him out. “Relax” you mumbled soothingly in Leon’s ear. Leon was already panting his chest standing proud as he arched his back into your touch. “I’m trying” You believed him on that front. “I got you all right? So just…relax”
Leon’s head nodded as he agreed in a slur of yes and apologies to which you chuckled. Leon wasn’t used to this, it was slow and passionate, you were actually caring for him caring for his pleasure not just toying with him for your own gain.
With two fingers you got Leon squirming on top of them he was getting impatient and you could tell he wanted more. “Please-, I’m ready”, he complained, you slowly removed your fingers your lips sucking on the skin below Leon’s ear. “I don’t know”, you started trying to think this through, maybe this wasn’t the best idea, fucking your co-worker on a mission. You started to doubt this whole hookup in a whole. “Maybe it’s best if we just stop here, no hard feelings-“ Leon shook his head almost violently. “No”,
Leon turned around sitting on his knees across from you on the bed. You looked at him questioning. His hair was messy his lips swollen with many marks on his neck that would soon become bruises. “No?” You returned Leon’s words tilting your head.
“We’re still on a mission Leon”, you reminded him to which he rolled his eyes. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” he said under his breath. “You’re only thinking about that now?”
“Yeah,” you admitted with a small smile. Again Leon scoffed. He looked straight into your eyes as he moved closer. “You’ve been flirting with me since the moment we met” Leon crawled closer his hand beside your hip on the bed his face dangerously close to yours. “I know you like me” Leon continued full confidence. You gulped as you leaned back trying to create some space between the two of you.
Leon ignored it, his hands going down to unbuckle your belt while you sat there totally in shock at Leon’s attitude.
“Leon I don’t-“
“Oh come all that big dick talk has to come from somewhere right?” With that sentence all your thoughts and doubts were thrown out the window you tried to fight it but Leon was quick to go down and shut you up, grabbing your length and pulling it out of its restraints. “Ah- shit-”
His next few moves were quick time blurted together in pleasure his hole aligned with your dick his hand at the base of your cock guiding you while your eyes followed his every move. Slowly Leon lowered down sinking on you as his thighs straddled your lap. Leon’s eyes rolled back his face going from concentration to pure pleasure in a blink of an eye.
All you could do was dig your nails deep into the flesh of Leon’s ass as your mind became fogged with a big cloud of pure erotic pleasure. “Ah- fuck baby slow down”, you pleaded with grasps feeling how Leon’s walls hugged you tight squeezing you. “Shit!” Leon moaned as he finally bottomed out his head falling on your shoulder. “Fuck” He let out a small choked sob. His hips slowly roll down on you making you groan.
His dick was squeezed between your body his angry red tip leaking into your skin, rubbing against the fabric of your shirt with Leon’s movements.
Leon’s pace was sloppy his face concentrated, trying his best it was adorable honestly, but just not pleasurable enough for you. You decided to just take a tiny bit of control, beginning to guide Leon’s hips at a much steadier and faster pace. “Ah- fuck!” Leon’s head fell back his eyes going up in ecstasy as you fucked him back making sure to delicately grasp his sweet spot with every thrust.
You could tell Leon was trying hard not to cum, his hands anchored on your shoulders sweat dripping down his hairline. His whimpers became more apparent the longer you went on.
“You wanted this didn’t you?” You panted. Leon’s mouth was agape as he closed his eyes. “Mhm mhm” he nodded frantically. “Wanted me to fuck you like this” you continued beneath your breath. Leon let out a loud moan as you started to rut against his sweet spot, drool was at the corners of his mouth soft sobs leaving his mouth. “shit-shit-shit!” Leon panted his words slurring. “I’m coming- ah- shit coming!” Leon mumbled incoherent things as webs of white landed on both your abdomen, and your movements became frantic trying to race to your own release desperately.
Leon’s forehead landed on your sweaty shoulder his hot breath on your chest as you finally released inside him. Holding his hips as you slammed your chock deep into Leon not caring that Leon was practically crying on your shoulder as you did. He let out high mewls as your movements slowly came to a hold.
The both of you sat there in silence panting as you came down from your high. You wrapped your arms around him. “You okay?” You asked genuinely worried that you may have gone too far. Leon let out a small huff of a laugh which made you instantly feel better realizing you hadn’t totally ruined the relationship you had with him. “Yeah…that was amazing”
You smiled at that sighing with relief. “Oh thank god”, your thumb rubbed small circles on Leon’s back. Leon let out a small giggle.
After another while of silence and your dick becoming uncomfortable in the wetness of your own cum, you pulled out making Leon whence. You muttered a small apology just as you had done when you treated his injury a day ago. How times change huh?
You gave Leon a kiss on the cheek, you found some towels after rummaging the house, you cleaned off Leon and after that yourself.
“I’m sorry that I can’t give you proper aftercare, you definitely deserve it after that”, you grinned covering the both of you under the blanket spooning him once again. “It’s okay, you can make it up to me when we get home”
“Is that so?” You playfully squeezed him. To which he giggled cutely.
“I didn’t hurt you too much did I?” You asked your worries over taking you once again. “Not really and besides I like a bit of pain.”

FUN GAME MY ROLL IS:
5,E,$
yay!!! your roll is: rockstar!eddie, all fours, and paddle ;)
for those wanting to know where this falls in the lore timeline of nepo baby!reader and rockstar!eddie, i'm thinking newly weds lol. as always, minors dni. dom/sub themes, spanking, nipple clamps, .
"How do you want me?"
"All fours," Eddie looked over his shoulder, standing in front of his 'wall of weapons' as he called it- racks of canes, crops, cuffs, clamps, and everything else he needed to play. It was an upgrade from the torture trunk he used to take with him everywhere, a must have when he built the house and added the sex dungeon.
You slid over the silk sheets, onto the edge of the bed, turning towards the mirrored wall that met the matching ceiling. You knew Eddie would want you facing that way, in the mirror so you could see yourself, see him. He'd blindfold you if he didn't, but he always preferred it this way.
"Mm," Eddie groaned, pulling you from your thoughts. You looked at him through the mirror, his tongue running over his lip hungrily, taking in your bare and exposed backside. "Look at you, baby."
Your body burned with pricking heat, spreading like wildfire down to your core. "What?" You giggled coyly, hooking your chin over your shoulder, lashes batting towards him. "What's wrong?"
Eddie's lips pulled in a grin. "Nothin's wrong. You just look good." His calloused hand smoothed over the soft skin of your thigh, up to grab a firm handful of your ass. "Look so good for me. I've just missed this." He sighed contently, nearly lovingly.
You blinked at him, hips swaying a little. "It's been so long since we've gotten to do this. Been away for so fuckin' long, felt like forever." Eddie muttered, his hand gliding up your spine.
"I know," You hummed. "I've missed you, too." You added with a playful smile that made his own heart swell.
"Good," Eddie hummed, reaching in the back pocket of his jeans. "I picked your favorite." He twirled it around, showing off the flimsy, leather paddle. Black and rounded, he got it in Amsterdam a few years ago. Eddie drug you into this lewd yet snooty sex shop, let you pick it out. An early memory of your relationship, that was just starting to bud and bloom at the time.
"Ooh," You giggled. "Are you going soft on me, Munson? Getting mushy with age?" You teased, biting your bottom lip seductively.
Eddie snorted lightly, lips twitching in amusement, spinning the paddle around. "Yeah? We'll see if you'll think that in a little bit." He smirked, patting your hip a little firmer than he usually would, a foreshadowing of what was to come.
He opted for the softer nipple clamps, adjustable and without the weight, a small chain hooking between each. You writhed in pleasure filled pain when he fastened them on, rolling your nipple between his fingers before hooking the clamp onto the hardened bud, grinning when you whimpered.
"Still feel like I'm going soft?" Eddie asked, gently dragging the leather paddle up your thighs, over your backside, between your legs.
"Well, you didn't use the clamps with the weights on them," You quipped, eyeing him challengingly. "So maybe."
Eddie grinned, softly tapping the paddle to your left cheek. "Oh, I see how you're gonna be." He couldn't even feign disapproval, much to excited for your little bratty demeanor. "Better keep those eyes forward, or I'll get the cane. Understand?"
You nodded, head moving to look at yourself through the mirror. Your pussy throbbed, squeezing around nothing but an aching need to be filled when Eddie softly tapped the paddle to your ass. The room fell silent, the paddle lifting, before cutting through the air with a faint whistle, a loud clap of impact shocking you before the searing pain did.
You gritted, back arching only a little, clamps wiggling and tugging at the impact. You lifted your eyes back forward, watching Eddie lift the paddle again. "Oh!" You grit, the next two strikes of the paddle, one to each cheek making you ache, beginning to build the painful pressure.
Eddie brought the paddle down again and again, building a slow rhythm that began to crescendo, alternating from cheek to cheek, to your sit spots, the top of your thighs. Your nails dug into the silk sheets beneath you, legs wobbling and burning with the straining urge to clamp together. A final spank had you sliding forwards, body shaking with pleasure, glassy eyed and mind numbed with aching need.
Eddie grinned, watching you tremble, falling apart in front of him. Oh, how he'd missed this- how he'd missed you. Sliding his jeans off, he crawled onto the bed, slotting his body between yours, pulling at the chain on your clamps, mouth hot and taking in your own. He pushed your leg up, hooked it over his hip, a wolfish grin spreading over his features when you whimpered, sensitive skin making contact with the sheets. Clawing to him, he pushed into you, head falling into the crook of your neck, a much more loving fucking than what you usually got after playing like this, but one you didn't mind- you'd missed him.

another cinderella story | l. hughes
summary: after your masquerade dance, you invite luke back to your house to watch a movie that’s right on theme. will he be your prince charming?
word count: 1.8k
author’s note: oh it’s just me being active and posting again!! so excited to be on break for the summer and finally have some free time! this was inspired by an experience i had with a friend and it was so fun to write, so please show some love by reblogginh or liking! leave some requests or messages in my inbox for fun! 🤍
———————————————————————
You pulled your coat around your shoulders as the chilly winter air nipped at your exposed skin, making the climb out of the Uber and the walk to your house that much more dreadful. Your night at your sorority formal had been a blast. This year, there was a masquerade theme and you had gotten lucky enough that your formal was on a non-hockey weekend so that you could invite your close friend, Luke Hughes.
The two of you had had a fun night with your sorority sisters and a few of his teammates who had been invited. Before you left, the drinks had been flowing at your pregame, so you had felt extra loose on the dance floor with Luke as your date.
“Thank you, have a good night,” you said to the driver. Luke quickly climbed out of the car to join you and speedwalk inside.
“I think the cold just completely sobered me up,” you grumbled.
Luke laughed from behind you. “Yeah, you did go a little hard after we finished our bottle of champagne.” You let out a soft groan at the reminder that you and Luke had been handcuffed to each other earlier in the night to complete your champagne and shackles challenge.
“I only had a one dirty shirley but I knew that stupid bottle of champagne would fuck me up,” you said, laughing as you recalled your tipsy self earlier in the night.
“I thought you handled it well, you only tripped three times walking in,” Luke teased. It wasn’t your fault that your best friend had made everyone drink the champagne in a race.
“Well, you knew I wasn’t going to lose to Luca and Bella in the drinking game!”
You and Luke reached the front door of your sorority house and you scanned in. Unsurprisingly, the house was empty, the other girls still at the formal venue or planning to stay with their dates for the night.
You shrugged off your coat and Luke hung it up on the coat rack in the closet along with his own. He had been over to your sorority house many times to study and hang out with you, so he knew where just about everything was.
“I was gonna bring some popcorn and those chocolate covered pretzels upstairs,” You called from the kitchen. Luke came in a moment later, still looking handsome in his button down and dress pants. You wouldn’t admit to it, but your eyes did linger on the contour of his muscles that was evident through his shirt. “I still can’t believe you’ve never seen Another Cinderella Story!”
“Jack and Quinn weren’t exactly interested in Disney Channel at that age, so blame them next time you see them,” Luke laughed. “How does this relate again?”
You huffed out a breath. “It’s a cultural masterpiece because Selena Gomez’s character goes to a masquerade ball where she dances with the Joey Parker, who is the celebrity in the movie,” you explained while walking up the stairs. Luke followed behind you, intently listening to your words. It was hard to ignore his eyes as he focused on you. “And since we just went to the masquerade dance, it’s a must!”
“So she’s the one playing Cinderella?”
“Yeah and she’s a really good dancer but her evil stepmother, who is played by Jane Lynch, of course, won’t let her be with him. It’s cinematic, I swear Luke.”
Luke’s eyes followed your form as you walked up the stairs. Your dress clung to you in all the right spots and your heels you had worn had made your legs look even longer than usual. He tried not to watch as your hair flowed behind you, the new style making him want to stare at you all night.
“Alright, I’ll get this masterpiece of a film set up, so get the snacks ready!”
Luke took a seat on your futon and you quickly clicked on Disney Plus to turn on the movie. You had started to feel too overdressed in your outfit, so you grabbed a pair of pajama pants and a Michigan hockey t-shirt to change into.
“Nice shirt,” Luke said when you walked back into your room. His eyes had gone straight to your shirt and seeing your choice of attire made him smile.
“Don’t be flattered, it was the first one in my drawer,” you said, shrugging your shoulders. You quickly grabbed a hair tie to put your hair up in a bun in front of your mirror. You didn’t expect Luke to be watching you as you turned back to join him where he was sitting.
“You look nice,” he said softly. You furrowed your eyebrows.
“In my pajamas?”
“You always look pretty, Y/N.”
You wanted to question what he meant but he turned away and focused back on the television. Recently, you had started feeling like yours and Luke’s relationship was bordering on the “more than just friends” line. He had made it a point to see you as much as he could, which ended up being just about every day. Your friends in your house had started teasing you more and more about how oblivious you were to Luke’s flirting.
You settled in next to Luke and shivered a little, pulling the blanket he grabbed closer to you.
“Come here,” Luke said, opening his arms for you to slide closer to him. The snacks still separated you from the hockey player. You told yourself it was just for warmth, that your sorority house had been known to be drafty in the wintertime.
“You cold?” You teased.
“No, but I know you always are. Your hands are always freezing and you wear, like three layers of clothing everyday, Y/N,” Luke joked. You couldn’t believe Luke paid attention to you like that.
Was it normal to have butterflies for your best friend during a Disney Channel Original Movie?
About an hour into the movie, lots of yelling at Jane Lynch, and one dance break later, you felt your eyelids start to droop. You sat up a little straighter, trying to stay awake to finish the movie with Luke but your night was catching up to you. You could feel him looking at you as you tried to stifle a yawn.
“We can save the rest of the movie for another day if you want,” Luke offered as he paused the movie.
You quickly shook your head. “I can’t leave you in suspense about what happens to Mary Santiago and Joey Parker, Luke. That would be a crime to DCOMs and to you.”
Luke pressed play once again, enjoying how excited you were about the movie and not wanting to miss spending any time with you. “You can rest your head on my shoulder if you want to, Y/N.”
You gave in, resting your head on Luke’s shoulder and cuddling up next to him. You weren’t sure what territory this put you into, since this seemed to be more intimate than anything you’d ever done before. You smelled Luke’s cologne as you moved closer, feeling his arm wrap around you as he welcomed your presence closer to him.
You knew you were a goner right then and there, because three minutes later, you were pressed against his shoulder letting out soft, steady breaths with your arm wrapped around Luke’s stomach. Luke didn’t notice you were asleep until a few minutes later, assuming you had just been watching the movie. He smiled at the sight of you curled up next to him and took in your facial features. After being friends for over a year, he had discovered so many things about you that made him want to be around you even more.
Luke let the movie run on, only half paying attention to what was happening. He had been excited when you asked him to be your date for the night, knowing that there were other guys, including a few of his teammates, who found you very attractive. He would have gone anywhere you had asked him, quite honestly, but the dance was fun and your post-dance plans of showing him one of your comfort movies only made his heart swell more. Even though dancing wasn’t his thing, he knew it was yours, and it made him excited just to see you happy.
Once the film was ending, he reached for the other blanket that was resting on the arm of the couch, not realizing that the remote was right there. The small black box clattered to the ground hit the side of the couch just right so that the sound went up, jerking you awake.
You were so surprised by the sound that you almost didn’t realize you had been asleep on Luke’s shoulder.
“Shit, I’m sorry!”
Luke quickly bent over to get the remote off the ground which gave you a minute to take in the song playing.
“Oh my god, did I fall asleep?” As a true DCOM fan, you knew that Selena Gomez’s song played at the end as the credits were rolling.
“Uh yeah, but not for long. You only missed her and Joey at the end,” Luke said. He placed the remote in between the two of you, since you had moved away from him in your haste to wake up.
“Gosh, I’m sorry Luke. I didn’t mean to,” you said, feeling embarrassed. You had spent the night trying to impress Luke and now you had probably drooled on his nice shirt.
“No, no don’t be. I was trying to cover you up with another blanket and I dropped it by accident.”
You both sat in an awkward silence before Luke cleared his throat.
“You’re cute when you sleep.” You rolled your eyes at his comment.
“I should’ve known my date was a stalker,” you teased.
“Thank you for inviting me, by the way. I had a really great time,” Luke said sincerely. You felt a flush on your cheeks.
“Even though I got a little too tipsy and fell asleep on you?” You questioned semi-seriously.
“Especially because you got tipsy and fell asleep on me,” Luke chuckled. “I’m glad you feel comfortable with me, Y/N.”
“Of course I feel comfortable with you, Luke. We’re friends.”
Luke quickly looked at you with a smirk on his face before huffing out a laugh and shaking his head. He wanted to say something, you knew all of his tells.
“What’s so funny?” You questioned.
“Nothing, I just wish we wouldn’t keep doing this song and dance. We’re worse than Mary and Joey, Y/N.”
Luke took your hand into his. “What do you mean Luke?”
Luke brought his hand to your cheek, the space between the two of you on the couch eliminated as he moved closer. His eyes dipped to your lips, silently asking you a question that you both already knew the answer to.
You nodded, leaning into his touch and pressing your lips against his. Cliche as it sounds, you felt like one of the girls in a Disney movie, kissing your Prince Charming.
Luke pulled away first to smile at you. “Took us long enough, huh? C’mere my Cinderella.”
You giggled and kissed him again, already planning your first anniversary and rewatching of Another Cinderella Story in your head.

― don't slip, Leon !

ft. Leon S. Kennedy x gn reader. summary: Just Leon trying out ice skating (and failing miserably.) There are brief mentions of angst and Leon's life as agent but overall this just fluff. author's note: This is going to be my last Christmas themed work. I may write something for New Years but I'm not sure. Fae if you see this, thank you for the amazing idea. ♡ wc: 1.7k

The room fell silent as soon as those words left Leon’s lips. He wasn’t even thinking straight when he said what he said. He was being dramatic, of course. It’s been a while since he could take some well deserved vacations, and now Christmas spirit was making him excited to try new things.
Ice skating was one of them.
He was scrolling down on his cellphone ―which was brand new, his last one shattered into pieces by accident― when he came across a video that started with a catchy phrase.
Things to do with your partner this Christmas!
Well… now that got his attention. Christmas plus you sounded amazing and since he wasn’t the most creative fella out there, this video will surely bring some ideas to his mind.
His eyes locked on the screen as the person in the video kept listing off multiple suggestions. Most of them were alright, baking cookies, and watching Christmas movies. He had already done those things with you and while he did have fun, this holiday called for something more adventurous.
“Ice skating could be an amazing idea for both of you. If you are in the DC area, you could go to…”
He paused the video and looked over his shoulder. You were busy doing the dishes and he so naively thought you weren’t listening. You lifted your head and gave him a warm smile, resuming your task at hand. When he was sure the sound of the faucet would keep your ears filled, he played the video once again.
After a few seconds, the video cut off to another idea which Leon quickly dismissed. He had his mind set on the previous activity which made him imagine all types of scenarios. He had driven cars, buses, airplanes and bikes. But the idea of literally gliding on ice with skates instead of normal shoes made him hesitate.
What if he falls? Falling and being thrown around in his area of work is a normal occurrence for him. But falling in front of several people because the old man can’t walk on ice sent shivers down his spine. How embarrassing.
“But ice skating sounds so fun…”
His lips moved on his own, unaware that his thoughts were voiced out loud. And that brought him to the situation which he was facing right now.
“What did you say?” You ask, leaning over the counter that separated the kitchen from the living room. Your smirk tells him enough, you have been eavesdropping to both the video and him.
“Nothing.” He clears his throat while turning off his cellphone. While he was dying to try ice skating, there was no way he would tell you. Yeah, he was so excited at first but now his own mind played dirty tricks on him, making him aware of his age and the consequences that would bruise his ego and self esteem.
“So ice skating it is…” You laugh as you walk towards the couch where Leon was sitting. He scooted over, making some space for you. “Come on, it will be fun.” Now you were the one who was excited to go. The idea of trying new things with your boyfriend was always at the back of your head and you thank God for popping that video on his Instagram feed.

He doesn’t know how or when he agreed. The only thing he knew was that you were talking to the guy who was teaching you how to put on the skaters. His mind was blank, like a cat who was just staring at its bowl of food. He knows he was the one who brought up the idea, but now seeing everyone mastering the art of gliding across the ice made his fingers twitch in nervousness.
He’s definitely going to fall in front of everyone, his pride as an agent will be destroyed and―
“Leon!” You call out for him. You motion him to follow your lead. Your smile reaches your eyes and he can’t help but smile too. Maybe he will do just fine with your help.
He was mistaken.
You were in your element, as soon as you stepped into the designated area to skate, you left him to his own devices. How could you be so cruel? He thought while taking deep breaths.
In reality, you haven’t gone too far. This date was between you and Leon alone, but the desire of teasing him for a while was itching you.
As Leon watches the person who was supposed to teach him, he decides to take the first step by himself.
Another mistake.
Clinging for dear life on the walls, a kid next to him observes him carefully before tapping him on his back.
“Sir, are you alright?” He asks with a troubled expression on his face.
Yes, thank you very much. That's what he wanted to say. Spare him the embarrassment, little one.
He takes a deep breath, again. He glances from where you are to the kid who seemed so interested and worried about him.
“Yeah. Thank you for asking. Shouldn't you be with your mom? This is quite dangerous, you see.”
He tries to be a responsible adult. The one who advises the little one that he could fall if he doesn't know how to skate. Of course a kid his age wouldn't know how to skate on ice, right?
“Mommy is actually paying so I can stay a bit more.”
Ouch, Leon's ego was hurt. He had fought bioweapons, dealt with many messed up villains and faced many adversities yet a little kid slapped him back to reality.
“You can do it, sir.” The boy innocently reassured Leon. For a kid, it must be quite an amazing achievement to help an adult. From afar you watched as a little child helped your boyfriend. An amused smile plastered on your face.
You skate your way over to your boyfriend. The little one still holding his hand but not daring to go further, knowing that if he did, Leon would fall and therefore him too.
“Hey.” You wave at both of them, Leon giving you a glare that doesn't match his eyes and his new friend waves back politely.
“Your friend needs help.” He says in a monotone tone, it appears that his patience has grown thin over the course of a couple of seconds. Poor kid had just babysat a federal agent, life’s unfair.
His little frame disappeared as he entered the ice rink. You were left alone with your boyfriend, a worried expression on his face.
“You look like a scaredy cat.”
“No, I do not.”
“Yes you do.”
“....”
You sigh and roll your eyes, it’s impossible to win an argument with him. Carefully, your hands grab his forearms and gently pull him to the ice rink.
He’s still stressed about the imminent fall that may occur if he steps into the cold area, but as you reach for him, his features slightly relaxed.
Slowly, he glides over and lets you guide him. You have to hold back a laugh as you witness your boyfriend ― who most of the time looks like a big bear ― stand like a newborn deer.
“If I hear you laughing we’re breaking up…” He threatens you, giving you a glare but not daring to sound more bitter, in case you’re heartless enough to leave him to his own devices. Again.
“Me? Laughing at you? As if.” Your lips tugged into a smirk but your hands never left his arms. Even if you sound sarcastic, you wouldn’t let him fall.
You start pulling him forward, he follows your lead as he eyebrows furrowed, trying his best to keep his balance.
He reminds himself that this is what he wanted. After seeing that video a few hours ago, his mind instantly teleported to where he’s standing now. He lifts his head, now looking at you instead of his feet, he was met with a glee expression.
It’s been a while since his life has gotten more normal, typical even. He loves and enjoys normalcy, and that is why he indulges in this moment. Away from missions, bloodshed and violence.
You begin moving backwards, your eyes darting from your boyfriend to your back, trying to avoid crashing into someone.
“See? You’re a natural!” You praise him, internally acknowledging that he was no expert, his legs were bent in a weird angle but it helped him to stay on his feet.
Watching a tough agent, standing like bambi wasn’t on your list of things you wanted to see before you die. But now, it surely is one of your favorite experiences. Throughout his life, he was expected to teach, not be taught. He was supposed to know how to do something and master that in the blink of an eye, no time spared and surely no patience given.
But now, as you so eagerly guide him, he can't help but be so damn thankful that he has the opportunity to spend this holiday with you and not somewhere else, praying not to be killed.
Eventually, he gets the hang of it. He’s still not the best, falling from time to time dragging you with him. In the midst of your laughing, you told him to be careful, falls at his age are something to worry about and not a laughing matter. He huffs, explaining that he's still pretty young.
It was heartwarming, knowing that Leon could still relax and forget about his past for a while. You had seen him at his worst ― eyes empty with no desire to keep going. But you have also accompanied when life gave him another chance. From that depressed and soulless person to this tough but gentle agent, who is now giggling like a child. Maybe even healing his inner child.
And after falling, getting up, and falling again, you get exhausted from the step by step skating routine. Leon never let go of your hand. And at that point, it wasn’t to prevent himself from falling, since he would have fallen nonetheless.
“Wanna go home?” You ask him, your gloved hands reaching for his face as he stands steadily.
“Yeah, my butt hurts.” He lets out a groan but in his eyes there’s a childlike glimmer. This little date had really healed something in him.
“Poor you.” You coo as you press a tiny kiss on his cold nose. “I’ll prepare you hot chocolate, don’t you worry.”
Hand in hand, both of you exited the ice rink, grateful for the joy this little activity brought to your hearts. Maybe next year, life will be generous enough to grant him another wish.

Like a lot of people I sometimes ponder what my favorite characters might look like if they were allowed to grow older. I've been seeing a lot of good designs for older Soren specifically so of course I got to thinkin' about my own take!
Some notes on design process under the cut cause I think we should all share our thought process once in a while:
So, for this I didn't want to just want to go with "Soren, exactly the same but older". My thought was "if I was actually in charge of designing for a fire emblem game, one that takes place in a future Tellius perhaps and featuring this character as a guest (a la Tiki or the Awakening trio, which they should keep doing BTW) how would I go about doing that".

You have to think of course, about what the character is actually doing and what their role is. It seems pretty likely that after RD Soren is either traveling the world with Ike or wandering around (probably the former) so "traveler" was the theme. As far as the overall shape and the outer layer especially it seemed obvious to reference the dragons, who are also travelers:

I don't want to just straight up copy the look of the robes though for a couple of reasons. 1) that's boring and the idea here is for an updated visual style 2) I wanted to combine different elements to evoke a feeling of mixing cultures. I figure if this scenario takes place say, 80 years in the future or something, fashions will have moved forward and perhaps you would see elements of beorc and laguz fashions mixed together. Especially for Soren given what he is. So I went with an inner layer that looks more Victorian puffy sleeves (which you don't actually see a lot of in PoR or RD since the characters favor more stiff looking tunics, but they are there and I figured its the future and maybe Crimea has entered its puffy shirt era) with the outer layer looking more like what the dragons wear. 3) Staying with robes seems kind of stagnant. I imagine that a much older Soren who's lived a good life along side his love has probably chilled out a little bit. A little bit. 4) I think having more leg visible gives a more adult silhouette.

The other consideration is the hairstyle. As much as I love Soren being a carbon copy of Rajaion, it wouldn't be the most interesting design choice if I was the character designer of a game to just copy a past design 1 for 1. So I decided to just lengthen his hair a little bit and give it a look like its been blown around in the wind. Soren is the windy guy and I'm assuming he would be more chill here so why not let it be loose and free? This also helps avoid him just looking like Sephiran cause I see that a lot too lol.
Yes I also changed the shape of his brand. I've always been fascinated by the fact that it changed shape between games. I know it was likely just a design oversight but what if it changed because he isn't an adult yet and it changes more as he ages?
Lastly there's the why. Why would your fav show up as a guest character? What would he even do?? Well I think Soren could be really fun actually if we assume he went with Ike and that Ike kept Ragnell with him. I'm picturing a situation where Ike has lived out his natural life and died, leaving Soren to return to Tellius alone in order to tell Mist's family what happened (cause Ike just left without telling anyone anything lol), and to return Ragnell to them. Instead some conflict breaks out, you know how it is, and the more chilled out Soren is convinced to bestow the sword onto the new starry-eyed lord who reminds him of his beloved.

Oh yeah. I can see it now.
#did I waste time thinking about this? Yes#no regrets cause I can alter this design and use it for my own stuff later#fire emblem#tellius#soren#au#ideas and theories#character design#saying I want to see my favs age but then this one has just barely aged at all#dang dragons#let soren be an adult#future tellius au

Imagine Peter Rekindling His Crush On You
Peter Quill X FemReader
Rating: T
Warnings: Suggestive themes, spoilers, mentions of an abusive relationship, fluff
Word Count: 1.4k
(A/N:) Okay I have seen GOTG Vol. 3 twice now and I freaking LOVE this movie! It has reignited my love of Peter. I had this idea and I had to write it! I’m even staying up late to get it done as I want to get it posted ASAP! I hope my fellow Peter fangirls enjoy it as it has a little bit of angst and fluff. I had so much fun writing this and I hope I can get more ideas to write for Peter! Until next time happy reading! ~Countess
SPOILERS FOR GOTG VOL. 3 BELOW!!!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE MOVIE!!!
A week had gone by since Peter had returned to Earth and it had been pretty calm so far. Catching up with his grandfather had been easier than expected and his last remaining Terran relative welcomed him back like the prodigal son. But now Peter was wanting to find more people he had known all those years ago. It didn’t take long until his thoughts had begun to dwell on you. He remembered the crush he had harbored for you, even after Yondu had taken him away his thoughts had gone back to you if he was in need of something good to remember. He asked his grandpa about you, but for some reason the older man was keeping quiet about you. It aggravated Peter but he didn’t ask much, not wanting to push his grandpa’s buttons too much. Though he couldn’t shake the feeling that the older man was up to something.
It shocked Peter that one fateful day that you turned up to his grandpa’s front door, like it was the most normal thing in the world. You waltzed in easily, hands full with vegetables.
“Mr. Quill I brought you...,” you paused almost dropping your bundle of goods. You fumbled around, regaining control but still staring at Peter who sat on the couch. Normally he would have laughed at someone giving him such a look but he knew he had to have the same expression on his face. While he still loved Gamora so much, it was a blessing to see you once again. You aged, just as he had but he couldn’t help but see how much of a beautiful woman you had become.
“Peter,” you asked as tears pricked the corners of your eyes.
“Hi (Y/N),” Peter spoke while rising from the couch. He took the vegetables from you and laid them on the kitchen counter. You followed close behind, still unbelieving that Peter was standing right in front of you. Grown and more handsome than you could have ever imagined. You swallowed loudly, stepping closer to him. He leaned backwards, suddenly uncomfortable with how close you were. You suddenly hugged him, shocking him more.
“It really is you!”
Peter chuckled finally hugging you back, “Yeah. I had some loose ends to fix.”
You punched his shoulder roughly.
“Ow! What was that for,” he squalled.
“For leaving without saying goodbye,” you glared.
“I had no choice!”
You continued to glare before relenting. It wasn’t Peter’s fault, you knew that. But it had hurt that day that he had disappeared. You were sure he was as good as dead until you had saw Thanos’ defeat and Peter had stood amongst the heroes that had saved the Earth. But now with him standing in front of you in person, the relief was becoming so overwhelming. You had thought about him a lot since then and you were afraid that you would never get to see him again. Or that if you did get to see him, he wouldn’t remember you at all. But now you were so relieved that that wasn’t the case. You hugged him again, but this time he was scared you would punch him again. Peter held you away from him about to say something else when you looked down. A little boy that hid behind you, tugged on the hem of your shirt. Looking up at Peter with large bright eyes. Of course, you were married. Any guy would be stupid to pass you up, he just hated he was too late. You looked down at your son, rubbing the mop of his hair affectionately.
“Peter this is my son,” you pushed the little boy forward who pushed back too shy to stand before Peter.
Peter’s eyes went from the young boy to your left hand. He didn’t spy a ring on your finger, but that didn’t mean you weren’t taken. He looked back to the boy who still was trying to escape. He squatted down getting eye level with him before smiling warmly.
“I’m a good friend of your mom’s,” he said holding out a hand. “We knew each other when we were kids.”
“Hi,” he answered timidly before looking back up towards you. Satisfied with him braving a new stranger you let him dart back behind you. You chuckled, shaking your head.
“He’s a little shy sorry about that,” you said.
Peter waved it off, though his heart hurt he was glad you found some happiness in life. You sent your son off to go play as Peter invited you to go outside to sit while you watched your son play. While you enjoyed the sunshine warming your face, Peter couldn’t help but look at your ring finger, the lack of ring bothering him. He didn’t have a right to be jealous of someone who had been there for you, but his heart was betraying him.
You were enjoying the silence, just glad to see Peter once again when he interrupted the silence.
“Who’s the lucky man,” he finally asked. His curiosity and jealousy too much to bear. You stiffened, refusing to look at Peter. You were really hoping he wouldn’t ask but of course he would once he saw your son. You sighed, deflating back into the chair.
“He’s not in our lives anymore,” you replied vaguely. Peter just continued to stare and you sighed again. “He left me a little after I gave birth. He was verbally abusive and he didn’t really love me. He just lied to get to me. I married him like an idiot and I suffered since.”
Peter felt his rage starting to choke him, especially when he saw a stray tear make it’s way down your cheek. He couldn’t imagine someone being so cruel to you and leaving you alone to raise a child alone. His hands clenched into fists as he trembled in rage.
“He didn’t deserve you,” Peter snarled.
You jumped in your chair, surprised at the anger in Peter’s voice. Every emotion began to swirl inside your mind as you saw how much he actually cared about you.
“Any man that is dumb enough to marry you and knock you up just to belittle you and abandon you is not worth anything in any universe.”
Peter thought about his father who had killed his mother and left Peter alone in the world. If it hadn’t been for Yondu, in his own twisted way, rescuing him he wouldn’t be here talking with you. Peter suddenly took your hand giving it a gentle but firm squeeze.
“You deserve better,” Peter continued.
You laughed nervously a blush darkening your cheeks. “Laying that Quill charm on thick aren’t we?”
“I’m serious,” Peter replied. “He deserves better too.” He gestured to the little boy racing around the yard, giggling gleefully. You touched your cheek, surprised to find tears streaking your skin.
“I’ve missed you,” you whispered. Sure you had been so young when Peter left but it had left a void in your life you had tried to ignore. But now with him back on Earth and a grown man, you found that he had meant more to you than anything. You felt foolish for finding someone else to take his place and the one you found had been a waste of time. Your son was the only good thing that had come from that relationship and marriage. Peter tugged you back into another embrace, kissing your cheek. His beard quickly catching your tears as you clung to him tightly.
“I missed you too,” Peter said. He never wanted to let you go now that you were back in his life. While Gamora still hurt, he found that holding you and seeing you again felt right. He felt a conviction well up inside him, that he wanted to show you how much of a real man he could be.
“Can I take you and him out sometime,” he asked.
You sniffed before nodding. “I would like that very much.”
“Be prepared for the best date of your life,” he announced making you laugh.
“I’ll hold you to that,” you smiled through your tears.
“I want you too,” he replied before jumping up from his chair. He kissed you again before taking off after your son. The little boy squealed as Peter chased him around the yard, scooping him up and throwing him up in the air. You couldn’t lie to yourself anymore as old feelings came back to you. Peter was back in your life and you couldn’t say it was a bad thing at all.

Wild Horses | JUICE April 2016
'British wit' has been a much-desired cultural commodity for a long time — Arctic Monkeys' frontman, Alex Turner, and former-Rascals-leader-turned-solo-star Miles Kane, have that in spades. Their charm converged when they revealed themselves to the world as The Last Shadow Puppets in 2008 via their debut full-length, The Age Of Understatement. After a period of dormancy, they're ready to bring the stomp again on their latest, Everything You've Come To Expect. That it's inspired by soul singer Isaac Hayes is only part of the reason to get excited. Here, in an exclusive with us, Turner and Kane furnish details, and yes, British wit.
Written by Indran P Photography by Zackery Michael
Transcript below
Eight years is a long time between albums. Has a lot changed in your lives since your first?
Alex: A lot about our lives stayed the same during that time, but certain things really changed. It's not like there's one theme running through it or that it's about one thing. But what springs to mind when I first think about the record is the recording of it, which was one of the most pleasant experiences l've ever had. We were by the ocean and a lot of friends were there all the time. So as far as the feeling that surrounds it — be it positive or negative — it's certainly the former.
Can we then expect a few love songs from Everything You've Come To Expect?
A: Not exclusively. Though, there are moments in the record that are certainly in the sphere of the love song. But there are some other moments on there that are kind of opposed to that as well. The first time we did a Shadow Puppets record was perhaps the first time we explored the abstract lyrically and thought about words more as just another component, along with the melody and the chords, and how that contributes to the overall feeling rather than always trying to tell a story.
Miles, was there something that happened during the recording process that you remember fondly?
Miles: I was singing “Gangster's Paradise” by Coolio. And then I sang: “As I walk through the chalet of the shadow of death”. And then we put it in the song “Everything You've Come To Expect”. I don't know where we were, but that was spitting something, yeah.
The record also features string arrangements by Owen Pallett. What was it like working with him?
M: He was with us the whole time — recording and writing his string parts. He definitely gets in a zone and then he'd come back and you'd know, if he wasn't happy about it, you could see. He is a true artiste.
A: He can be very serious at times, but we welcome what he's doing. But Miles is definitely like….
M: I've seen him melt. I made him melt. He's fun, you know.
Besides Owen's input, another interesting change-up in your sound is your newfound appreciation for Isaac Hayes.
M: There probably are lots of different artistes or songs. There was the Isaac Hayes thing; there was a bit of Style Council; there was a bit of Dr. Hook — all those songs that have a certain mood. They may not sound like this record, but there's a certain feeling you get from the tunes. We were definitely very concentrated on the Scott Walker thing on the first one.
As much-scrutinised musicians yourselves, are you ever apprehensive about how you channel an influence?
A: We are still finding new things and getting excited about them. It's not as direct. The reference material on the first Puppets record was really the focus. Whereas that's shifted slightly now. We don't have the innocence we had then, I suppose. And back then, it seemed crazy to us to try and make a record that sounded like Scott Walker, whereas now it's not as mad. But when you talk about some records sometimes, I think you'd have a hard time trying to draw a parallel between this and that. Well, or maybe not.

celebrating your birthday
A/n: It's nowhere near my birthday but whatever
Amity: It's been a while since she's had a real birthday party. She used to get mager ones when she was friends with Boscha. In retrospect that was probably to impress Boscha's parents. But enough about all that it's your big day. And with money (that she totally didn't steal from her mom) she wants to make sure that you have a great birthday. She takes you to any store you want. And then gets you your favorite food.
Luz: She loves birthday parties so much!!! She goes all out. There's a bunch of decorations. And if you like having more people there, all of her friends are there. Which we know is a fucking lot. If you don't want a lot of people that's okay. She buys your favorite cake. You only turn whatever age your turning once. And now I've at least alluded to Boscha two more times than I thought I would.
Willow: She's never been one that likes big crowds. And no matter how many people are on your part she'd feel kind of awkward. So she hosts a party that's just the two of you. On the plus side, it's more special. Also, her dads make you a cake <3.
Hunter: The FUCK is a birthday? Yeah, I think I've made it clear the Empoer's coven and the Empoer himself suck. Like doesn't even know what that word means. But once he finds out he's determined to give you a good one. Despite never being to or having one himself. And it's very all over the place, You have no cake but do have ice cream. Not sure how he managed to mess up the biggest part of the birthday. He's trying okay? Also the number of gifts he good you was absurd.
Vee: She kind of knows what birthdays are. A few kids had them at camp (Which was probably sad as fuck.) So while the general decorations are kinda dull. The gifts are great! Most (affordable) things you want you get. Though there are a few oddballs in there. Like she just got you a straight-up weapon.
Raine: Pretty good birthday. The happy birthday song is 10x more awkward. Because they have a beautiful singing voice. Thankfully they also are an awkward mess when it comes to stuff like that. So they probably won't sing it (if you don't when them to.) All of the gifts they get you are sweet.
Eda: Never trust Eda to throw a party, worst mistake of my life. There are so many different shows and gamed-themed plates it's insane. The presents don't make any sense. Like a book about how to get better at abominations, while your human ass is just sitting there confused as fuck. She starts laughing and then just straight up gives you 250 snails.
Emria: She bakes the cake herself (and almost burns the house down.) She's not great at the whole planning the party thing. But it is still an enjoyable experience! While the wrapping job might have been so bad that you could see the gifts, said gifts were still great. Is her lacking ability in making birthday parties just a her thing or is her mom also at the core of this? I don't know, you decide.
Edric: Dude was stressed. He wanted it to be perfect! But, just like his siblings, he had no clue what to do. I mean he'd had birthdays, but he's not known for excelling. And with his mom being Odaila there was no chance of him getting a proper birthday. Cue the googling! The birthday isn't very extravagant, despite his wealth. But it is a fun time. He did end up getting pin the tail on the donkey. So that's pretty fun.
The Collector: Any chance to throw a party is a chance he'll take! And it was about you? That's twice the fun. He can make you the biggest cake with just a snap of his finger, not sure how good it would taste but that's beside the point. Also, the presents are great, obviously. You guys have stereotypical "girls" birthday parties. You have a slumber party, eat pizza, play truth or dare, and stay up all night.
Lilith: She probably wouldn't do anything major for your party. A slice of a cake and a small gift or two. It's not that she doesn't care about you, she does a lot! She doesn't really celebrate her birthday. (Sorry boys it's not angst this time I just don't think she likes celebrating her birthday.) That being said, if you want a bigger party she's not totally against the idea. But the only people she has the confidence to ask are Hooty, Luz, and Eda (King probably tagged along.) It's pretty hectic, as all things with the owl family are, but it's honestly the best birthday you've had.
Gus: Gus is almost the biggest overachiever out there (second only to Hunter.) So he's more than excessive. He takes all his past parties and parties he's been to and combines them into one big party. He invited Willow over to make sure it looked okay (bless her and the crap she has to deal with.) She tells Gus in the nicest way possible that you'd probably have a heart attack from all the colors. She quickly helped him fix everything up. When you do come over it's overall presentable. It's a far cry from what Gus had planned but it is chill.

I'm curious, how did Hector(and subsequently his dynamic with Max) and Cleopatra came to be? When did you get the idea for them?
Have a god day!! ^^
Ahh I've been waiting to sit down to type this out all day.
Ooh I believe he was created for the time travelling Clemmie AU, where she wakes up at age 8 again after surviving the second rebellion. While plotting this AU, Max was a difficult character to use and have Clemensia interact with, particularly when our protagonist is a young child. So to work around that, Hector entered the picture. Sort of to set a parallel of Hector & Max to Clemensia & Felix being friends.
Clemensia was meant to be this reminder of Hector, as granddaughter and grandfather share some traits with one another, both physical and personality wise. Though Hector is more outspoken about his beliefs. Nevertheless, his presence (in the narrative of that specific universe) was to partly nudge Max into reconsidering his stance on the games.
`
Dynamic-wise without attaching this to any specific AU, I first saw them as a charming, ball of sunshine, very outspoken guy (Hector), stoic + ready to commit war crimes (Max). He first started off as a good friend, and just one of the many people Max has lost to the Districts over the years. Somewhere down the line, it became: this guy was deeply in love with his best friend, and his early death is one that Max still mourns.
Maybe the romance aspect came in because of this one line I gave Volumnia in a post as a joke -> "Had Hector been a woman, you’d have married him the moment we graduated and have had a dozen Ravinstill children by now."
In most universes, Max & Hector have a huge fight over allocating more resources to the Districts - it's their last conversation because Hector then goes to 11, and he dies from an illness that could have easily been treated had he been in the Capitol. Then it becomes: if I had agreed, would he have lived?
`
But yeah, Hector was always going to be a Dovecote, as in a previous universe, I had explored an idea with Clemmie's maternal side of the family (Beauchamp) and wanted to do something for the paternal side of her family (Dovecote).
Some of his traits came directly from Clemmie since I needed her to be a reminder of him to Max for the AU he'd been initially created for. (ie. strawberry allergy, the smile). Other traits were more general ones I'd previously imagined for the Dovecotes (ie. Dovecote charm)
Outside of all this, he's modelled heavily after Hector of Troy. Beloved, early death. You could say that Hector of Troy dies fighting a war out of duty and our Hector Dovecote dies doing his duty (as a doctor to his patients).

Regarding Cleopatra, she was created a bit after Hector. The thing with the Dovecotes is that I work backwards, starting at Clemensia and moving up one generation at a time. So I had her parents, then Hector's name. I like to give a naming scheme within families - sometimes for the fun of it, or just to indicate family dynamics.
With Endymion and Hector having the common theme of being named for royalty from mythology, I wanted Cleopatra's name to reflect that, and also be from Greek mythology. Despite that being where her name comes from, her life takes a bit more inspiration from the more well-known Egyptian queen.
Cleopatra Dovecote née Herz was well known for the unfortunate accidents that befalled her spouses / lovers. Some of which weren't her fault. And I think I thought it'd be interesting to make her a reason for the crime allegations with the Dovecote name. Blaise Zabini's mother from Harry Potter was a bit of inspo here too haha. As was Andromache of the myths.
And like Andromache (of the myths) and Cleopatra (the queen), our Cleopatra was always meant to outlive her beloved. Also I think I started with Clemensia's parents having this love story, and it spilled over to giving the Dovecotes in general having this reputation of love matches / grand love stories.
She does find love again after Hector's death, but he still occupies a great part of her heart. Ultimately, her love for him sort of leads to her death. This happens quite early on in the first rebellion, so unlike Hector, she gets to meet Clemensia. But had she not returned home that day for his wedding ring, she wouldn't have died when her building collapsed.
`
I think I've made jokes about Hector attracting a type: tall, dark, and a little murderous (+ musical in that both Cleo and Max play piano)
But despite Cleopatra and Max being similar, they differ in that Cleopatra is able to accept that the Districts is part of him. She understands that he will travel between the Capitol and the Districts. A more recent thought I've added to Cleopatra, is that she took the time to learn about 11's wedding tradition when she tried to propose (making a grass woven ring).
Meanwhile, Max is kind of in love with a version of Hector that he sees. If they were in a relationship, he would support Hector in theory, but it's more so words than actions.
Thanks for the ask!! This was really fun to think about :)

Love in a hopeless Place 20
Synopsis: She was barely grown up, when she stepped into the bar that was the center of Zaun's resistance. The people she met there would forever change her life, and one of them especially. Silco x reader/OC; first-person POV; overall rating: E for Explicit; canon-compliant (though I might make a stretch on the timeline here and there to make things fit my symbolism); age gap! (younger female, older male); 9 chapters; 45k; cis female reader/POV; no beta-reader; completed Chapter ratings/warnings: G for General, mentions of wounds and violence Wordcount: <1k Author's note: So now we have the birthhour of villain Silco. I imagine that shot of him in front of that window quite epic, like from a horror movie. Imagine coming home to your partner and finding him that much changed. And that at 18 years old. I would probably have taken my feet in my hands and would run. Hope you like my writing. Comments would be appreciated!
Today's music recommendation: Silco's Theme

Act II
Chapter III
Part 7/9
Two days later, when I returned home from work, Silco wasn't at home. It surprised me, since he hadn't gone to "The Last Drop" for fun since Vander and him had fought. I still suspected him there, so I went looking for him.
But only Mimi and two other aides were at the bar, that was relatively lively for a workday.
"Silco was here, this noon," Mimi explained. "For the books, you know. He vanished to Vander's office with him for a long time." Mimi leaned over the counter and whispered: "I heard them fight the whole time. They were throwing things. As Silco stormed off later, Vander followed him. Told me to watch the kids till he's back. But it's been hours!" She truly looked scared. "They used to be so close."
I saw tears dwell in Mimi's eyes, so I patted her hand and thanked her. I roamed the lanes, but if I was being honest, I didn't even know where to look for them. I just knew a few places Silco would come to if he wasn't feeling well. The top of a water tower, because the air was better up there. The food stand we sometimes went to. That one spot at the canal. But I couldn't find him or Vander. Worried sick, I finally wandered home, rain was pouring down on me, and I heard thunder in the distance. I opened the door to our apartment to the first lightning illuminating the room - and saw Silco's silhouette in front of the window. "Gods," I breathed and hugged him eagerly from behind.
He was soaking wet. Not like me, from the rain, he was literally wet to the skin. He touched my hand shortly. "I'm sorry, kid," he murmured.
As I looked closer, I saw that the bandage around his head was missing. "Wh-what have you done?", I stuttered, sensing my knees to grow weak.
"What have I done?" He spun around, and despite the missing light, I noticed that the wounds on his face looked different, worse.
The short illumination of a new lightning bolt confirmed my worries.
I gasped and took a step back from him. Shaking violently, I stared at his again shadowed face.
He grasped my upper arms and glanced at me with his eyes wide. "I did nothing. My brother dear tried to kill me!", he spat at me, and I wasn't able to from a comprehensive thought. "He tried to drown me. In the canal. Knocked my wounds open again. I've never been in so much pain before. I thought I was done for it for true this time." He gritted his teeth, but the left side of his mouth barely moved.
"We have to call the doctor," I finally panted. With shaking hands, I tried to reach out for him, but he didn't let me.
"No charlatan in the world could wash the poison out of my wounds. I've seen this before in others."
With my eyes restless, I roamed his face and noticed, that his bad eye didn't even blink anymore. I had no idea the water at the canal was that bad. "You said, he tried to drown you?", I panted, trying to keep my mind clear.
"Yeah," he spat. "Said I was a risk for his vision of Zaun. That he had to get rid of me. Tried to stab me, choke me, drown me. But he did a lousy job. I'm still here. Sevika watched us by accident and pulled me outta the water."
"Sevika," I echoed, and a glimpse of the woman's face appeared in front of my inner eye. I had met her at "The Last Drop".
She and Silco were friends. Unlikely ones, but friends still.
"What are you gonna do, about Vander?", I stammered. "Will you... seek revenge?"
Silco's jaw tensed, and he turned away from me. "Not yet. But I'm done with him. Once and for all. We'll see whose vision for Zaun will be successful in the end."
I placed my hands and face against his back and cried quiet tears. Why had things always end in tragedy?

If its not too personal could you talk about what was the inspiration for Michaelis? He's got a lot of depth to him, especially for what could have been a one off character in the background after Fete. Also the way he mourns but carries on really resonates with me in Jes.
Oh sure! I mean, on the one hand it is quite personal but it's a kind of personal I really enjoy sharing. :D Michaelis began life as the Standard Hallmark Parent -- you see them a lot in the movies, the parent who is
1. Kinda grouchy
2. Usually pushing their kid slightly too hard in slightly the wrong direction (with the best of intentions)
3. Often a widow/er
4. Practically a cameo designed to stress out the lead, but easily attractive enough that they could be romantic lead themselves in the sequel.
There are actually several Hallmark films where the over-sixty characters are either the supporting romance in a one-off film or the main romance of a sequel film. (The Wedding Veil films, which despite their flaws are actually very enjoyable, have a Michaelis-like character for the mother of the male lead in the first movie, and she then becomes the major supporting romantic lead in the fourth movie.)
By the time I got to Michaelis talking to Eddie at the end of the script for Fete, I'd grown to really like him. When I adapted the script to a novel, I liked him even more. I thought that I could do a sequel with him getting jolted out of himself a bit -- and I was encouraged by how many people liked him in the initial read through. The main inspirations for the actual plot of Infinite Jes were, one, Gregory jokingly suggesting he do a podcast, and two, Michaelis's defensive dismissal of Gregory's question about what he's done for companionship since Miranda passed.
Over the course of writing Infinite Jes, he came to be a collection of themes I've explored or wanted to explore, sometimes themes I knew I wasn't skilled enough to handle yet. The core of him is based on a professor I worked with as a student; the confidence that occasionally tips into arrogance, the keen intellect that likes to take things apart, the ability to look at some toxic family traits and decide "RIP but I'm different" and be a present, nurturing masculine figure, all come from that professor, who had a huge impact on me.
But I have also been fascinated for decades now by a certain kind of character in fiction, someone who has had a devastating loss and keeps going, even if they aren't driven by something like revenge. Profound grief is difficult and fascinating for me, and I finally felt capable of exploring that fully, perhaps because the pressure on romance novels is a bit lower at times.
And honestly, a lot of him is me, processing the fact that I am aging in fandom. I'm older (44) than the oldest person I knew in fandom (38) when I joined it at the age of 14. I have, for lack of a better word, a position in fandom, a status, that affords me certain perks and requires of me certain obligations. Not to call myself elected king of fandom ("I didn't vote for him!") but the duty I feel to fandom, both as a culture that raised me and a found family, is very similar.
Most of my characters contain some of me, but Michaelis and Jerry contain far more of me than most, perhaps because I'm in a place to do some reflection. Michaelis -- intelligent, experienced, hopefully a mentor, but also lonely and detached at times -- is who I'm coming to grips with being; Jerry, the charming fuckup with power but no real clue how to use it, who is doing his best to grow up a little later than a lot of his peers and figure out how disability fits into his identity, is who I still see myself as.
So yeah -- I find Michaelis incredibly fun and compelling to write for, and I think that's because I had hit a skill level in my work where I could combine a lot of tropes and themes into one character and use him to explore why I enjoy them so much. But he definitely began life as the Hallmark Widowed Dad. :D Well, there are worse origin stories.
