You mentioned Adora and Scorpia and I want to add my two cent about Scorpia in Season 4. (I might be misremembering)

In season 4 Scorpia goes through a lot but it feels very hollow.

As Scorpia leaves the horde during season 4. For what reason: Tired of the war, realises she is on the losing side, wants to over throw Hordak or realise that the Horde is bad? Nope she abandons her kingdom, country and way of life because Catra was mean to her. And she does this despite being a loyal soldier.

Then she realises that she wants to save Entrapta so what does she do: Tell Hordak so he can save Entrapta or does she mount a rescue effort herself to make up for abandoning Entrapta? Nope she travels to the enemy capital and appeals to them to save Entrapta.

Then when Scorpia is prisoner, she agrees to work with Glimmer to activate the The Black Garnet giving the Princesses a power boost that allows them to defeat the Horde.

All of Scorpia's actions throughout season 4 is so weird as she is so nonchalant about everything that it feels hollow.

As despite giving up everything to save Entrapta it feels like it isn't important. As it feels like we are missing a large chunk of character exploration.

(I'm also annoyed that we never really see Scorpia interact with Hordak)

Yeah, I agree with you! I may like Scorpia standing up for herself in s4, but not only does she leave the Horde for quite a small reason compared to everything else the Horde has done, Catra mistreating her is merely summed up as "Catra is a bad friend". As if she didn't straight up berate Scorpia and threaten to hurt her and Emily - and worse, send Scorpia to Beast Island to die. That is not what a mere "bad friend" would do.

Scorpia's "redemption" is very inconsistent indeed. Not to mention how quickly the princesses accept Scorpia. Pretty ironic considering how hostile they are towards Entrapta in s5. But yeah, sadly, everything about Scorpia is inconsistent, from her backstory to her ending. And I do love Scorpia, but I'm so angry at how the show treated her. The fact she was chipped in s5 also did not help.

Also yeah, I don't recall Scorpia interacting with Hordak that much. She mostly stays away. You brought up a good point, how did Scorpia never go to Hordak in order to rescue Entrapta? She knew why Entrapta was really gone. Imagine if Scorpia told him the truth?

My thoughts on she-ra

so I'm bored and i love she-ra so until i have no writers block or until I get a request ( im adding she-ra to the list of things I write for) here are my favourite things about it, things I noticed and my favourite ships, spoliers ahead for every season

first thoughts

ok so i'll admit at the start of watching it, it took a while for me to get invested, i slightly stopped after swift wind was introduced because he annoyed me but afterwards I kind of found him funny sometimes, yeah sometimes. I didn't like the queen or glimmer at first but then i came to really like the queen since in reality she was just a stressed mother with a rebellious teen. And I slightly came around to liking glimmer

I INSTANTLY fell in love with Sea-hawk, Adora ,Entrapta ,double trouble, hordak, Scorpia and wrong hordak

sea- hawk:

so starting off with sea-hawk. He looks like the tuff-ish type and sounds like an amazing adventurer, when in reality he's just a big goof trying to get the girl he likes to like him back. and when he said "I hope you forgive me when your yourself again" ( or along those lines) I almost stared crying.

Adora:

Adora is honestly one of my favourites because of how her growth is portrayed, she went from being this ' evil' person to the ' I have no clue what my life is anymore' teen. Also when Adora was acting all droopy from the sword being cursed) I think) It was hilarious

entrapta:

oh my god I love this girl! She is the peak of comedy in this show. I love how she doesn't really give a shit of what most people think. Her relationship with Hordax and wrong Hordak make me so happy like aaa. I also love how since she has trouble making friends or talking to people she surrounds herself with robots, and whenever tech is mentioned she HAS to be involved. And how happy she was to see him in the end was so adorable

double trouble:

biggest non-binary icon ever! I love their voice, their looks their attitude its everything! The whole flutterina thing caught me by surprise and when they revealed themselves i was like " HOLY SHIT ITS YOU!". I love how they dont give two shits who they tease or how far they go. Their just like ".. I wanna mess with Catra brb" and " ohh so he's the boss? lemme go annoy him "

hordak+ wrong hordak

ok so im mixing the two cause im just going to briefly touch on wrong hordak.

So i really like the finale season of hordak. I love how the person to snap him out fully is entrapda, I love how he cares for her and instantly rushes to save her from the explosion. And the second she talks bad about herself he's like " wait a damn minute". And wrong hordak not understanding basic functions and winking is just adorable to me.

: OH. MY. GOD.. LESBAIN ICONNN. Ok ok I'll be serious. Catra definitely had the most growth, from hating Adora to rushing to save her because she truly loved her. And how when Scorpia showed a hint of friendship she pushed her away, probably scared that she would like like adora did... and her " hey adoraa" makes me have gay panic when I hear it-

scorpia:

Scorpia is the definition of don't judge a book by its cover. She looks like a tuff asshole person but is a sweet and gentle person outside of battle. She doesn't see the bad of Catra which is heart-breaking when she realizes it. I also love her taking care of Emily when entrapda was sent away

I love this ship with my WHOLE heart. He is literally the one one who understands her. I noticed when the portal prototype was going to explode, instead of grabbing her hair he grabbed her hand and COVERED her when they both fell. He was literally so hurt when she got sent away. And when they reunited i SWEAR I heard him say " its ok" to her. I honestly adore this ship.

Post-Season 5 Catradora fic, ~700 words, angsty but in a good way? Also they probably both need therapy but we already knew that. Title is from Iron & Wine’s “Naked As We Came” which is not nearly the kind of song it sounds like.

The night of their first wedding anniversary, Glimmer throws them a big party—mostly because she feels like throwing a party, Catra thinks, and their anniversary is the nearest excuse, but Catra's not complaining. She and Adora both love a party.

When they make it to their bedroom in the wee hours of the morning, they're both giggling and handsy from a couple of drinks—only a couple; they have commitments in the morning—and collapse into bed without bothering to undress or turn off the last dim sconce on the wall.

Adora burrows into her pillow, one arm around Catra, instantly relaxed. But instead of falling asleep beside her, Catra lays awake, a weird melancholy creeping up on her. This is why Adora never lets her have more than a couple drinks; Adora's a fun drunk, but Catra gets moody in a way that they both know isn't good for her.

"What would you do if I died?" Catra says, voice loud and sudden.

Adora rolls over and stares at her in the faint light.

"Sorry," Catra mutters. "That's morbid and weird. Never mind."

"Yeah, it is," Adora says, equal parts worried and irritated. "What do you mean? You saw how I acted when you only almost died. I'd be really effing sad, Catra, how about that?"

"No, what I mean is… I know you'd be sad, but you'd probably marry again, right? You'd be sad, you'd miss me, but you'd eventually find someone else. I mean," her face makes a half-smile that she doesn't really feel, "there'd be plenty of takers."

Adora sags onto her back and stares up at the ceiling for a long minute. "No, I don't think I would."

Catra scrubs at her face, wishing she'd never spoken. "You don't have to say that…"

"I'm not just saying it. I've never wanted anyone but you, Catra. I can't imagine being with someone else, ever." Adora's hand finds hers in the darkness, laces their fingers. "If I lost you, I'd just… be alone the rest of my life. Which would suck, so, you know, don't freaking die."

She scowls at Catra, who stares back, speechless.

"I'd still have our friends," Adora says thoughtfully, expression softening. "And as long as I still had somebody, I guess I'd be okay, eventually. Like, I don't think I'd be a suicide risk, probably." Her voice breaks. "But no, there wouldn't ever be anyone else."

Tears are spilling down Catra's face without her permission. "I'm not nearly as good a person as you think I am."

Adores gives her a look full of patience and affection and concern, reaching out to brush the tears away. "Why do you say that?"

"Because," Catra says, her voice hoarse and tiny, "because that's what I wanted you to say. And I know that's horribly selfish and cruel—"

Adora kisses her, once, twice, half-sitting up to do it properly. "I love you exactly the way you are."

Catra presses into the kiss, bowling Adora over, pinning her down in the bed. Adora submits totally, indulgently, the way she always does when Catra gets like this.

"Your turn," Adora says eventually, pulling back for breath. "You can't ask a question like that and not expect me to want your answer, too."

"Oh, what would I do if you died?" Catra grins. "I'd bump off Perfuma and have Scorpia down the aisle inside of a month."

Adora gasps and tackles her, laughing. "You miserable little—"

"You asked!"

The impromptu wrestling match quickly devolves into more kissing, clingy and desperate.

"Don't you ever leave me," Catra gasps against Adora's lips, "don't you ever leave me alone again, I'd never forgive you—"

"I won't."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

Catra knows Adora can't actually promise that, knows the world is full of wonders and horrors and that intentions can only do so much against them. She chooses to believe Adora anyway. She's learning to make choices like that, choosing to be happy in spite of all the reasons not to be.

She twines herself around Adora, kissing her like her life depends on it, and doesn't ask for anything else.

In regards to your recent post, if you could rewrite Catra's redemption arc how would you go about it?

I’d probably start by making use of the Catra/Shadow Weaver parallels they set up with things like their similar rants about not being trusted, the tweaks to Catra’s character design that give them affinity like the crack down her face in the portal or the asymmetrical sleeve of her Horde Leader outfit, and the bit in the graphic novel where Adora outright calls her “the new Shadow Weaver”. (You know, the bit Catra Stan Twitter shat itself half to death over.)

Like, the scene I have in my head is a guilt dream where she goes back to her torturing Adora with the power grid in “Flutterina”, but it uses rapid match cuts to replace Adora with Young!Catra and Catra herself with Shadow Weaver to parallel their actions towards people who are at their mercy, then, when Adora throws the robot at her, she sees Shadow Weaver’s face reflected in its eye as it flies at her in slow-motion. I’m not demanding that specifically, but some payoff to this thing they’ve been building up since at minimum season 2 would be nice. Have her realise she’s becoming something terrible and want to change for her own sake, rather than laser-focusing her arc on Adora.

Other changes I’d make:

1) Ditch the bullshit everyone-forgives-her-instantly stuff. So far Catra has tried to kill Adora like five times, helped Hordak burn down a major city, brought about the death of Glimmer’s mother, betrayed Entrapta and attempted to bring about the apocalypse out of spite, and the only thing anyone actually seems to care that she did is bullying Scorpia and even that’s just Perfuma. Having the Rebellion be a little more distrustful of her after everything she’d pulled would make both logical and emotional sense, make it feel more like she’s working to make up for what she’s done instead of everyone just kind of forgetting it, and generally make it feel less like S5 was written without checking over the plans for seasons 2-4.

(It would also be more in-character for Adora, who’s distrusted her for understandable reasons since Princess Prom, before the murder attempts began in earnest, and for Glimmer, who had a season-long breakdown over dealing with her mother’s death and then just kind of gets over it so she can play life coach to the person responsible for it.)

2) Rebuild at least one episode to be about her dealing with her issues instead of having her disappear into the Hyperbolic Therapy Chamber offscreen and emerge as honestly a slightly nicer person than Mermista. “Shot in the Dark” could be tailor-made for an opportunity for Catra’s anger or her resentment to flare up and force her to deal with it somehow and it’s just wasted. (While I’m rewriting episodes, I would turn that one into a reversal of “Promise” - say, have them experience each other’s memories, so Catra starts to understand that being Shadow Weaver’s favourite Sucked Actually and there was no point being so mad at Adora about it - end it with Adora dangling from a cliff again and Catra saves her this time, as a symbolic rejection of the resentment that was stirred up in “Promise” and which drove her for like two seasons after that episode.)

3) I’d switch things around so that at minimum Scorpia isn’t chipped. Catra now has to deal with all those tangled and uncomfortable emotions surrounding the friend she drove away instead of the terrible instahug conclusion at the end of S5. (Also, Scorpia is in general shockingly underused, to the point where she doesn’t get a scene with Entrapta at any point after she left her life behind for Entrapta’s sake in mid-S4, and I think that’s a shame because she’s a really interesting character when the writers actually care about her.)

4) I would have a moment where she realises how much Prime is acting like she was back in seasons 2-3. Trying to control someone’s mind and use her as a weapon against her friends? Yeah, Catra did that. Trying to destroy the universe to take out the people who keep beating you? Oh hey there S3!Catra. It’s okay, indeed almost mandatory, for this to end with her either realising or being reassured that she is different from Horde Prime because she’s trying to improve herself instead of continuing to wallow; I’d just like it acknowledged.

5) So that it doesn’t look like I’m just relentlessly down on Catra - I actually find her a fascinating and engaging character, just one S5 wasted like it wasted all this show’s other engaging characters - I would also let her actually use her talents to help the good guys a bit more. For example: Catra is a manipulator and a tactician. How about she gets to use those traits for something? Especially since, as noted, Prime is acting a lot like she did, only with a pseudoreligious gloss over it; having her realise and deal with this would also allow her to come up with ways to exploit it.

(In another episode rewrite, I would probably restructure “Return to the Fright Zone” so that instead of them just kind of blundering into a trap, they’re intentionally luring Prime’s forces into a trap of their own by using Adora, Catra, Glimmer, and Bow as bait. It can still go to hell for whatever reason, but I think it’d let Catra feel more like an active part of the side she’s joined and less like she’s mostly there because Adora’s superpowers won’t work without her.)

Anyway, my apologies to people’s dashes, but these are some thoughts I’ve had on making Catra’s arc feel less rushed and unconvincing.

my only complain is that I feel catra´s redemption is a bit hollow, I love that she gets to live and finds love but everyone she hurt forgives her almost instantly, I get adora has to otherwise they couldn´t be together and she sees good on catra cuz she saved glimmer and helped them on their trip but her reuinon with scorpia and entrapta felt very poor, she never even apologized for angella :/

Yeah I definitely wish they’d had more time for that, but on the other hand I think it makes sense for the time frame. They’re in the middle of a war and they all have to work together, now might not be the best time for all that. Catra did get shit from pretty much all the princesses she hadn’t worked with previously and I don’t know that any of them had entirely forgiven her, but I think she had demonstrated enough change within herself for them to trust her. I like to think there were more discussions later, especially with Scorpia. When I first saw the season I was really disappointed with how quickly that was resolved, but after some thought I realized Scorpia had seen Catra fighting with the Rebellion and Catra had attempted to apologize to her in the Fright Zone. So I think at that point Scorpia knew Catra was sorry, and it’s just so in character for her to forgive quickly with a hug. Probably they had to talk more down the road to really reestablish trust, though. As for Entrapta, I also think her forgiving Catra quickly was in character. She doesn’t really take things personally, and she did rather enjoy her trip to Beast Island. So like, yeah I would have preferred to see more, but it makes sense it didn’t fit in the time frame they were showing in the season. Also, there were other important things to address, like the Shadow Weaver trauma and all that.

Shadowweaver says OOC stupid things but it doesn’t matter because the princesses shut it down satisfactorily. Adora is weighed down by responsibility in a cool way.

i feel like at this point, catra stans are deliberately misunderstanding our point. they keep saying that we just hate seeing abuse victims getting a happy ending and that we can't fathom the idea of a bad person changing for the better, when most antis i've seen has said multiple times that they just wanted a better redemption arc for catra.

liking or sympathizing with someone doesn't mean that you have to excuse all of their actions and let them get away with anything. you can like catra and still hold her accountable for her actions but it seems like catra simps refuse to understand this, and instead act like we're villains who just want catra to suffer and die.

Yeah, I for one relate to Catra and I was very disappointed with her redemption. It was cheap and was resumed to "forgiveness". First, no one should be forced to forgive someone that hurt them; it's their choice alone. Second, if they choose to forgive, they don't have to be in that person's life. It's a lot more complex than just saying "I'm sowwy :(" "I forgive you :) now we're buddies!". Forgiveness can be really hard.

Catra's apologies are INCREDIBLY vague, like, come on. She only says "I'm sorry for everything" to Adora - and Catra still treats Adora like shit. I don't remember exactly her apology to Entrapta but I know it was brief and didn't detail anything (Entrapta mentioned the events of s3 but she didn't seem hurt about being sent to Beast Island or like. Catra manipulating Entrapta into believing she was abandoned). Scorpia, then? Catra didn't even say the word "sorry". Scorpia just instantly forgave her despite the fact she wasn't even there for Catra's "progress". She was chipped the whole time. Same for Micah and Mermista.

The show refused any accountability, which should be essential to a redemption arc. Not to beat a dead horse, but there's a reason why Zuko's arc is so remarkable. We joke about the "fieldtrips", but Zuko helps each person individually, first Aang, then Sokka, and finally Katara, the person he most personally betrayed. When Zuko first tries to join the Gaang, they reject him. They don't trust him. And they're right for it! So Zuko proves that he's better over and over again, until he gains their trust in a natural way. While Iroh isn't there to see all of it, he can tell by Zuko's mere return to his uncle and his remorse alone that his nephew found his path again. Also note that Zuko doesn't make excuses, he just straight up says, "I'm so sorry and ashamed for what I did", and implies he would do anything to gain Iroh's trust again. Similarly to how he approached Katara in The Southern Raiders.

SPOP, however, only tells us Catra is "working" to be better. When she really doesn't. Too bad most of the fandom eats all that up without giving a second thought. Then they accuse us of hating abuse victims or mentally ill people, when I'm pretty sure a lot of us are both of those things.
