Russia's clear favoritism and Mongolia has to deal with a depressed drunk

I have headcanon (that I think is founded irl) that Russia is sincerely fond of Mongolia. The thing is Russia Likes it when people come to him to beg for help etc. His favorite kind of people

But also, yes Mongolia didn’t have a lot of choices, but regardless he has a niceish relationship with Russia also because he Chose him himself, I think. He puts his own agency in it, even amidst the limited choices and it being mainly founded on ‘choosing lesser evil’ type of thing (because choosing the alternative was out of question), that he was quite sincerely helpless but no way he went down without a fight, that he desperately clung to the smallest semblance of power because yes he’s helpless but LIKE HELL he was gonna act like it. He wasn’t gonna fold before China so he chose Russia even tho Russia wasn’t altruistic toward him. He knew. He still did it because he COULD. Possibly before Russia himself could truly force himself on him. Any semblance of power Mongolia could grab, he took, even if there wasn’t many because he was just a smallish territory sandwiched between two giant ones. And for him, freedom and agency is the highest denomination of power.

So there lies a difference between him and Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan couldn’t get to choose Russia for the most part. Mongolia still could and did, even though it was inevitable.
