Ed wakes up face down in his pillow, hair in his mouth. His side of the bed is clammy with sweat. He kicks the blankets down, bare ass exposed to the air conditioned room. “Urrghh,” he groans, just to get it out there, to make himself known. “Stede?” he calls.
“Yes, darling?” comes from behind him immediately, like Stede was standing there watching Ed wake up. Ed can’t be bothered to turn his head to look at him. Feels like he might break his neck trying, his bones and muscles and skin so weak and fragile.
“I think I have a cold,” Ed moans, voice a little nasal, flexing his toes.
