Remember how last year there was some wing AU stuff going around? Yeah I’m waaay too much of a bird nerd to let that go by without at least thinking about it. Unfortunately wings are tricky to draw, and I never finished these. Maybe someday I will.

I was gonna do webbed wings for Arrancar, and a mix of feathers and webbing for Vizored; it was gonna be cool. Ah well.

Really nerdy ornithology stuff under the cut

You were warned ok you’re in a bird-watcher’s house now.

Ichigo’s wings are based off of a red-tailed hawk; good wings for soaring but maneuverable when needed, with patterns inspired by red kites.

Rukia’s wings are based off of pied imperial pigeons. And before y’all gut me for picking a pigeon, pigeons have incredibly versatile wings that are fast, maneuverable, and good at long distance flight; she ready for anything. Color inspired by ravens.

Uryu’s wings are based off of terns and skimmers because dang those shapes! Terns are speedy and can also turn on a dime; anything with really pointy wings like that is basically a sports car. Pattern inspired by Cape gannets.

Chad’s wings are based off of ground hornbills. Good, solid wings for flight; can’t really do fancy things but can reliably go from point A to point B. Pattern vaguely inspired by pheasants I think? I don’t remember anymore.

I had a sketch for Orihime’s wings, which were based off of a giant hummingbird, but I didn’t get around to coloring them.

Chad & Orihime: *trying their damnedest to become strong as to not worry Ichigo and protect him and immediately try to help him get his powers back when a feasible option comes into play*

I knew Yatsutora Sado was going to be my favorite character from Bleach the moment he punched a Hollow before even seeing it!

Well....Bob from Tenjou Tenge doesn’t have those ridiculous looking lips.....or Sado Yatsutora from Bleach......or Killer Bee from Naruto....so......I guess it depends on the animator and what they’re looking for in a character. (Also, there’s Mr 1 and Aokiji from One Piece and they don’t have lips like that.)
