Information from the new post!
Tumblr media
Vino is a 4-star Nuclear Surrender character, as previously announced. Her name is written as 长尾千津子 in Chinese, which would be 長尾千津子 in Japanese, and thus may be read as "Chizuko Nagao", though her name should be confirmed in her side story. It looks like she'll be part of the same banner as Queen, and thus will be added to the game in Version 1.3.3.
Tumblr media
The shadow that resembles Kaneshiro's Piggytron looks to be named 瞋恚, which is most likely Pratigha of the Kleshas/Poisons, and thus would be "anger".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The description for Vino's side story:
In Shinjuku, there are occasionally drunkards who get into trouble, but there is also a drunken woman who helps each other when encountering injustice. The story opened this time is Chizuko Nagao's personal exclusive story "The Note that Conveys the Heart - Part 1". Subsequent stories will be updated in future versions.
Notably, it seems her side story will only be added in parts, rather than all at once like Minami's and Haruna's were in the past.
Kiyoshi Kurotani's Confidant will also be added in this update, as well as a new part of the soccer team's side quest, and two new songs ("Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There", and "Break It Down") for the music club minigame.
Tumblr media
Yatsufusa is being added to the game as part of the Door to Ominous Dreams' boss rotation! No mention of it being available as a Persona yet, but it is now in the game.

I was happy with the Moritaka doodle yesterday so I drew Shino! This is definitely the first time I draw him (his design is just super intimidating u know?) and it was on MSpaint online lol
It’s a bit messy -the undo button broke half way through- but I made do haha, I like how it turned out.

Do you like Kakashi's dogs? Let's talk about why there are eight of them.
another example of naruto's ✨cultural code✨
contents | the eight dog warriors chronicles · legacy · eight confucian virtues. also look at the cuties love them sm
Tumblr media
Naruto Vol. 10 CH 90
[ one dog is wonderful, I'm saying as the owner of a sweet little york terrier. two dogs are good, they won't be bored together. three dogs? yeah, cool! how are you going to walk them though? four? yes... look, maybe we have to draw the line h- wha- EIGHT? Excuse Me!? ]
surely, it's worth starting with the fact that eight is a lucky number in Japanese culture — everybody watched Hachi. of course, this is not the only cultural detail where the eight is mentioned. I want to pay special attention to a thing that I didn't know about until I googled it, and this is clearly what Kishimoto was doing homage to with Kakashi's eight ninken.
The Eight Dog Warriors Chronicles
Better known as Nansō Satomi Hakkenden. and it's not just some kind of book, it's a novel, consisting of 106 booklets written by Kyokutei Bakin in XIX century. Hakkenden is considered the largest novel in the history of Japanese Literature. this is one of the main representatives of the gesaku genre, which includes works of a frivolous, joking, silly nature. further I will emphasize a few more times how damn popular this work is and how often it is reflected in culture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here are some illustrations for these books
now let's talk about the plot. It's weird, but it's weird at samurai-dogs-story level so stay here.
In brief, the story tells about the commander Satomi Yoshizane, whose native lands were attacked by the army of a man, whose forces surpassed those of Satomi, and the samurai in despair swore to a dog named Yatsufusa that the dog would get his beloved daughter Fuse as a wife if he chewed that man's throat. surprisingly, the dog not only understood the owner, but also fulfilled his wish! after that the commander refused to keep the promise. however, Fuse, true to her word of honor, went with Yatsufusa to the mountains and became his wife. upon learning that his daughter was pregnant, Satomi, in a rage, sent a samurai to kill Yatsufusa and bring Fuse home. she stood up for the dog anyways and died with him. at that moment, eight pearls with hieroglyphs that denoted the foundations of Confucian virtue burst out of her womb. (...cheers for mythology, I guess)
Soon, eight dog warriors who were Fuse's spiritual children were born in different parts of Awa province. after going through hardships, they got together and became vassals of the Satomi clan, then won the battle, and soon reached peace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some more illustrations made by Utagawa Kuniyoshi. from left to right: Inukawa Sōsuke (the dog warrior), Inumura Daikaku (the dog warrior), Princess Fuse (their mother).
the novel mainly tells about each individual warrior dog and his shenanigans in a funny adventurous way. huge fame has led to excerpts from Hakkenden being staged at the Kabuki Theater and mentioned in the anime and manga, such as Inuyasha, Dragon Ball, as it turned out, Naruto and so on. there's also a lot of films and video games.
The eight virtues
these are loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, love, honesty, justice, harmony, and peace.
they relate more to Chinese culture, but basically Hakkenden was inspired by it too. since I did not read the whole novel, I would still like to mention at least the values on which it is based, and which were embedded in the symbolism of this story. It's quite interesting to apply this to Kakashi's dogs. gives them more weight and depth.
It is also interesting to note that the reason why Fuse gave birth to dogs was also that her father was cursed earlier in the story in a way that his descendants would become depraved like dogs. in Japanese culture, dogs embody the duality of character: the same mentioned filth and depravity, and devotion and bravery. so as samurai. but this is a different conversation, more related to Kakashi and his dog poetry.
Tumblr media
Did you get here? Here's an additional discovery for you✨
Pakkun's name (パックン) is derived from the Japanese onomatopoeia “pakupaku” (パクパク) which reflects the sound of munching.
Kakashi, that's very sweet of you.

thank you for reading this to the end ♡

The epic novel 'Nansō Satomi Hakkenden' is one of, if not the longest pieces of literature ever written in Japanese. Spanning 98 chapters and 106 booklets, the saga is an intense and winding read going over 8 separate people and how their stories each intersect, discovering their true origins and uniting together in Nansō. Among the many characters spanning the work's thousands of pages, however, one in particular caught the eye of ATLUS, it seems; a major character in the first act of the story, and one who is intrinsically connected to each of the 8 main characters- Yatsufusa.
The overall plot of Nansō Satomi Hakkenden is far too complicated to get into in this series, and I don't have the next few years to kill reading it, but it doesn't really matter for our purposes. Unfortunately, it's very hard for me to get a concrete English translation of the work, as I'm a broke high schooler who wretches at the prospect of spending over 10 dollars on something, so most of my knowledge and research about Yatsufusa is based primarily on summaries and analyses about the work. What we're focused on is the first act of the story, though, in which Yatsufusa makes his appearance, being the hound of Lord Yoshizane, and one to whom he offers his daughter's hand in marriage (seemingly in jest) if the dog could slay his enemy, Lord Anzai.
Surprisingly, the dog returns with the head of Anzai, and the lord begrudgingly offers his daughter's hand in marriage, to which the dog and her elope to a small cave. Naturally, neither of them really want to actually be married to each other- the dog likely did it just out of loyalty, and the young princess, named Fuse, doesn't want to be married to, y'know, a dog, but a curse sets in from years prior- a curse given to the Satomi lineage, the one that Fuse was part of, that the once noble and loyal heritage would become as depraved as dogs. However, Yatsufusa had formed quite the moral compass, and while the curse had set in and... well, they bore children (though seemingly not physically? It was just an aspect of the curse, so thank god no bestiality is involved. Still weird, though), said children were not born naturally and were instead given life as listless spirits, each of them seeming to represent different virtues of Confucianism belief.
The children were then set to possess separate beads, each of which being inscribed with said virtues, which are actually the eight beads surrounding Yatsufusa in his SMT design. Unfortunately, later down the line, the two were killed by one Daisuke, another major character in the story to my knowledge, who intended to shoot down Yatsufusa to free Fuse, though ended up killing them both. After the dog's death, the eight beads inscribed with each of the children's souls are scattered throughout Japan, and the story begins for real. Yeah, this was a prologue. You see what I mean by winding, right? I'll cut this short here so this doesn't become a straight up retelling of a summary, but despite being a somewhat minor character, this dog plays a major role in one of the most formative works in Japanese history.
In terms of design, in SMT, Yatsufusa is a rather simple case- a lot of the pieces of his design, such as the bell and the inscribed kanji on his head, each seem to be connected to separate aspects of the story, which I find to be a really nice touch. Of course, the primary focus outside of the dog itself, the beads, are each inscribed with the virtues in the design, though there's not much else to talk about. Still, it is a pretty damn good design, and one layered with symbolism. A really nice showing for this strange being originating from literature above all else.

Toji’s AR Dungeon Part 1-2:
In Part 1, we start with Toji, Tadatomo, and MC entering the dungeon in Roppongi. There are presence of demons in the dungeon. Furufumi shows but it was demon disguise as Furufumi. After it was dealt with the real Furufumi shows up, here once again to act as a guide since this is a job Mononobe ask him to do. Toji cuts down a wondering Oni and sees into a past loop memory. In this loop, the public security organization is still around with Kresnik, Masanori, and Toji working together. Their job is to deal with the stray transients causing problems in the area and also to learn about the suspicious game that has been spreading in Tokyo. Toji was almost decapitated by Shino, who is currently guarding MC. After that memory, Toji was surprised to see the public security organization was around in that loop. Since they are pretty much gone in the current loop. Yukimura, the exception from CH6, appears and say he will help.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Part 2, we continue off in the past loop memory. Shino explain the situation to the public security organization. MC life is being targeted by the players of the game. Masanori is surprised to see Yatsufusa. Shino ask if he was expecting something else. Masanori said no, he’s just glad to see that he’s a descendants of dogs and not something else. Toji says it must be nice to have someone to call father. Toji said they need more support to learn about this game and protect MC. Masanori suggest that they recruit the other Hakkenshi. The first one on their list is Nobumichi, who said he’ll be glad to help.

“Living without protecting what needs to be protected is the same as death...”
Tumblr media
"If 'protecting' is what you are doing right now...it's a sure fire way to get yourself killed. ...Those people behind you are traitors to the Imperial Capital. Spies feeding intelligence to the enemy and Night Raid...now, move." Yatsufusa is pulled effortlessly from its sheath in a blink of an eye its tip threatening to carve open this 'protectors' throat should he impede Kurome's duties any further. The Jeager is all business looking to put these spies to the sword rather than trail it seems ~ maybe if they pick their next words carefully Kurome won't add another doll to her collection, but the cool smirk on her features tells a different and far more sinister story. "Tick tock ~ its decision time little one. Before I lose my patience and slip ~"

Thoughts on an AU where Shino doesn't die, but the other Hakkenshi fall in battle at future points in the main story?
Instead of him sacrificing himself, he survives and goes on to meet and form connections with the other dog warriors besides Moritaka and Tadatomo. Like those two, the remaining six also see him as 'kin' (not necessarily 'father') and some fight either alongside or against him in future battles. However, they're the ones who get killed during the most major climactic battles in certain chapters, leaving Shino to reflect on his losses.
It later turns out that because the eight dog warriors are fragments of his own soul - him originally being Yatsufusa, each one of them who dies dissolves into spirit form and rejoins with Shino's core soul. Every time that happens, Shino's memories and personality traits from his past life are restored, causing him to gradually regain his former identity and turn back into the original Yatsufusa again.
What do you say to all this?
As much as I like the Au you’ve thought of. I find it both interesting and very depressing, but I can see this happening either in a past loop or an alternate universe. I think it’s possible if Shino didn’t sacrifice himself this could have happened. I’m not educated enough in the mythology or folklore of the 8 dog warriors. This is very interesting though

Starting with something a little less exciting, but still cool, it looks like Yatsufusa might be getting added as a Persona in the future? It was in P4, PQ, and PQ2, so it'd be neat to see it come to P5X.
