The Chronicles of Yarnia, Explained

One stray Instagram comment led to unraveling years of alleged scams and animal abuse by a person in the wrestling community.

This is the Chronicles of Yarnia

or, The Yarn Side of the Ring

On March 25, wrestling photographer Amber Nicole posted the following tweet:

Christine/Shining Polaris is known in the wrestling fan community for her collection of crochet yarn dolls and their social media handle: The Yarn Bucks. She takes photos of them, makes clothes for them, and even sells them on commission. She gained a following for those dolls. She even ran a GoFundMe to have the dolls meet the Young Bucks.

Except they weren't her dolls.

Shortly after Amber Nicole posted her tweet, the original artist, Melissa/meloticart quote tweeted Amber Nicole's tweet with the following:

Quickly people found and posted feedback Christine had left for Melissa on Etsy:

And as soon as she was exposed, people had a lot more to say.

Melissa's tweet hit Reddit and one of Christine's former roommates commented with allegations that Christine had a history of taking credit for other people's designs in the cosplay community. She also accused Christine of stealing her belongings and even hitting her cat with a yardstick, all the while complaining about said roommate on Twitter to paint herself as a victim

Other cosplayers claimed she was known for stealing designs. Wrestling fans chimed in to allege that she scammed them out of wrestling tickets, hotel splits, and money. Others talked about targeted harassment campaigns that came from simple misunderstandings.

Even Sean Ross Sapp weighed in on the Chronicles of Yarnia.

While this was going on, Christine was silent on Twitter, but continued to post photos and clips on Instagram and TikTok as if nothing had happened.

Then WWE posted her video of Nia Jaxx enjoying some popcorn. It was pulled after a flurry of comments telling them not to associate with Christine, but the WWE France quote tweet is still up:

WrestleCringe got their account back and used it to call out some of Christine's hypocritical behavior, specifically claiming that other people were stealing HER work.

There were screenshots about her trying to get someone kicked out of AEW Heels, claiming harassment.

When people noticed that Christine had limited comments on Instagram, a friend of hers posted DMs the night everything came out:

She was hoping to wait for things to blow over because all of her "haters" came out to "cancel" her.

Someone asked Kate from Fightful to explain the yarn drama:

Kate finished by saying: "Nothing good to say, but a lot of nothing going on. Some serious things that did happen already... I don't agree with bullying a bully under most circumstances. Not great patterns of behavior from a specific person on the internet, but ain't that wrestling? Ain't that the wrestling world?"

This was before Amber Nicole posted that Christine had filed a trademark for the Yarn Bucks in August 2023:

There was a lot of heat, but Christine silent on Twitter.

On Easter, she finally posted an apology:

She only addressed the Yarn Bucks controversy. She didn't bother tagging Melissa in the post. She also displaced blame by saying that she was "caught up their hype", as if copying Melissa's work and filing a trademark weren't deliberate choices with multiple steps over several months that undermine the justification of being impulsively caught up in something.

Max Caster decided to weigh in as well, unfortunately.

Where are things now? As of today, the Yarn Bucks Ko-Fi has been gutted:

Christine finally posted on her Yarn Bucks Twitter that she was turning it into a memorabilia page. She also finally tagged Melissa and encouraged people to buy crochet wrestlers from her.

The roommate from Reddit came forward and let everyone know that the abused cat, Mr. Scampers, lived out the rest of his life in peace:

But the trademark application for Yarn Bucks is still active.

I think Kate at Fightful got it wrong. Saying, "ain't that wrestling" normalizes toxic/abusive behavior. The wrestling industry was started by and populated with carnies, grifters, and con artists (and worse) but "ain't that wrestling" implies, "You know what this community is like. Anything that happens to you is your fault."

This kind of mentality signals to predators that this is a community that will tolerate abuse. So then you'll have more carnies, grifters, and con artists treating other community members as easy marks.

People often start friendships because they like the same things, but at some point you might realize that you might not BE alike in the ways that matter. As soon as you start justifying or excusing away harmful behavior because you like the same wrestlers, you signal to other people that you are also not a safe person.

Kate also said that she doesn't think that bullies should be bullied. Christine doesn't deserve any of the death threats sent her way, but if someone has repeatedly been harmful to a community, that community has a right to say, "You don't belong here unless your behavior changes."

However, I've seen people take photos of Christine and verbally harass her at shows, which is also not appropriate. If you care about the wrestling community--and not just dog-piling for internet clout--what will serve it more is holding her accountable, warning other people about her behavior, and not engaging with her until she takes full responsibility.

Don't we all want to have fun and enjoy wrestling? That's a lot easier when we make the space safe for each other.

That's all I've got for now about people scamming artists in the wrestling community...

“You know, we both have driver’s rooms for this sort of thing,” you breathed, giggling when Charles’ facial hair tickled your neck. 

His mouth sucked gently on the pulse point thrumming beneath his tongue, tracing kisses from your ear down to your collarbone. The stack of worn tyres cushioned your back as he pressed your harder against them when you reached around to pinch his backside. 

“Oi, I’m talking to you.” 

“I’m sorry, mon ange, but you looked so good when you were giving that interview. And you kept laughing-”

“Oh, so it’s not that I’m so irresistible that you couldn't wait until we were safely in the garage. It’s that you were jealous.” You raised an eyebrow at him, unable to fight the smile at his rougish grin. 

“You are irresistible,” he murmured, hands snaking around your waist to pull you flush against him. “Why else would I be making out with you in an alley behind the motorhome?”

“Because you’re a horndog.” 

You and Charles had been dating for the past year, having met after he caught you winding up his younger brother one race weekend. Ferrari had been eyeing you up all year, asking the Monagesque what he thought of you, prompting him to pay closer attention. Prior to you signing your contract, you’d had to disclose your relationship to Fred Vasseur. Whilst the senior members of the team were aware of your more-than-teammates status, the majority of the paddock were in the dark. Both of you wished to keep the relationship under wraps until your rookie year in F1 had passed, reducing speculation that Charles was the only reason you got your seat. Sneaking around the motorhome was a lot safer than making out behind tyre stacks, but Charles didn’t care at this moment in time. 

“You going to be nice and let me win today?” He teased, nibbling at your lower lip. 

“I think you mean, am I going to let you massage my feet after I win? I won here last year.”

“Yes, yes, bow down to you.”

“Well, I do like you on your knees.” 

Grinning, Charles captured your lips with his once more. Tongue swiping against your bottom lip, he groaned against you when your tongue met his. Hands snaking into his hair, you tugged gently on the soft strands, enjoying the whimper you pulled from his lips. He tilted his hips, pressing himself against you. 

“The things you do to me.”

A loud cough - more of a throat clearing - tore the two of you apart. Wide eyed and panting, you both turned in horror to look at the misfortune person who stumbled across you. Fred Vasseur stood at the end of the alleyway, shaking his head at his two drivers. It was bad enough watching them make heart eyes at each other during data reviews but this. Behind him stood a cameraman and a mic guy, mouths agape at their luck. Drive to Survive would be flooded with viewers once they teased this. Breaking News: Ferrari drivers caught locking lips in secret tryst. 

“I’ve got Netflix following me around today.” Fred said bluntly, staring you both down. 

“Oh crap.”

“Yeah.”

Upcoming Trending 27th: August 2024

No offense to a certain fandom, but real talk here, when I think about the fact that they published a book about an overrated antagonist from an overrated show created by an overrated Oregonian man, I become more wary of the effect it might have on WOY’s chances of a revival. To make matters more concerning, that overrated show was trending on the day of WOY’s 11th anniversary (talk about stealing one’s thunder). I propose a solution to cope with this situation: Book Ideas for Wander Over Yonder.

“What would be your idea of a book based on Wander Over Yonder?”

I remember years ago when there was a ‘fanzine’ titled “The Wanderer’s Guide to the Galaxy” or something like that. I personally liked that one page about ‘Yarnia,’ but now I’m going a little off track here. The book could be anything - an encyclopedia, an atlas, a traveler’s log you name it.

@raccoonboywrites your ask box is closed so I'm making a post about it. my local library hosts an event called "the chronicles of yarnia" for teens and tweens to learn how to knit & crochet and that sounds like some nerd shit Eddie would be 100% into.

maybe his partner is a librarian and they need to fill a class slot so they volunteer Eddie to teach a class because he's surprisingly patient and helpful with the kids (like how gordon ramsey yells at adults but is nice to the littles). and it goes really well, so well that it becomes a weekly thing where Mr. E reads stories to the kids in wild, fantastical voices and then teaches them how to crochet a coin purse or knit a sweater for a gnome lol

This being the first day of Black History just reminded me to plug my new favorite indie yarn dyer. Mary of Republic of Yarnia is a literary historian who creates colorways based on historical artwork depicting Black people; so far, she has collections for colorways inspired by Medieval, Renaissance and 1700s artworks. She's also open for custom orders and offers a variety of bases to choose from. Her site offers a monthly subscription, which gets you at least one skein a month of a specially designed colorway, a write-up on the figure it's based on, suggested patterns for crochet and knitting and the occasional extra bit such as cute stitch markers, as well as discounts on all orders. I'll also vouch for her customer service.

Over on Twitter, she'll be spotlighting a different Black figure and the colorway inspired by them each day, as well as offering deals.

New Yarn

this is 70% baby alpaca and 30% silk!!

It’s very soft and i hope to make a scarf out of it. I got it from Republic of Yarnia! I’m allergic to wool so hopefully i can wear this.

For a change of pace, this is Aslan II. I made him back in 2020 so he could be the mascot of my fiber arts club The Chronicles of Yarnia (I sadly did not come up with that wonderful name). Since I’ve graduated college, he’s moved on from being the mascot to being one of my couch buddies. Still a noble pursuit if you ask me ;)

Lion pattern is “Laurence the Lion” by Jess Huff on Ravelry.

Scarf and flower headband were free handed by me. Unfortunately I can’t find the pattern for the coat, though I’m fairly certain I found it on ravelry around August of 2021. If I find the pattern, I’ll add an addendum.

Yarnia - Ch1 Pt2

As is only right before heading off on an adventure, no a Quest, Alani takes the elven templemaster's advice to leave an offering for their chosen guardian, Kunklava of the Forest. In turn, the templemaster offers a token of the guardian's favor. [Pick one item]

Suppressing the irreverent wish for food instead, Alani accepts the pendant. Ffingers tingling at the feel of magic within the pendant, Alani slips the charm around their neck, grudgingly thinking "Okay, maybe this is better than a meal. Might come in handy."

Their stomach grumbles quietly in disagreement. 

Like the road, the inside of the temple is intricately designed. Silently, Alani wonders at the cost expended by the town to keep the roads and temples in such good condition. Everything the Ranger has seen thus far of the town has been … ornate. Eyes drawn by one particular design, Alani pauses a moment to take record of the carving. [Roll 1xD10 = 5]

Wanting to continue on their way, Alani nodded in respect to the templemaster before exiting and returning to the road. [Roll 1xD6 = 4]

Shortly after leaving the temple, a shadow passes over the road bringing Alani to pause. Looking up, they see a massive winged beast - a wyvern of some sort - which lands with a roar across the path ahead. Stumbling back in shock, they fumble for their bow and quiver. Nocking one of their DPN arrows with hands that tremble slightly Alani stares up at the beast. Distantly Alani can hear the sound of screams and slamming doors. No help is coming in this fight. [Roll 1xD8 = 4]

"Well, shit," Alani curses. Distantly Dantes yowls in possible agreement. They might not be getting any help, but the beast has no such issues. A swarm of miniature animated shrubbery joins the fray as Alani desperately shoots ducks around attacks as best they can. With Alani providing a tasty looking distraction, Dantes darts in to harass the minions. 

Somehow the cat manages to take the full attention of the minions, allowing Alani to focus fully on the Wyvern. Aim focused on the wings and eyes of the Wyvern, Alani gets a few lucky hits on the creature.  [Roll 1xD20* = 2]

Apparently determining the pair to be too much effort for a meal, the Wyvern finally rears up and launches itself back into the sky. Its wings kick up a cloud of dust that leaves Alani coughing and vainly attempting to cover their mouth and eyes with the fabric of their poncho. As the dust dies down, all trace of the monsters are gone save for scuffs and prints in the dust. 

Now that the coast is clear, the townspeople find the courage to venture out of their homes and approach. 

"Cowards," Alani thinks as they gather up any arrows they can find left intact after the skirmish. Dantes rubs up against Alani's boot, calming the Ranger slightly. They did both survive after all. 

Brushing off the thanks of the town, Alani gathers some details of the surrounding wilderness - and common beast sightings. Beasts as large as the Wyvern, apparently, are a rarity this close to town. [Roll 1xD8 = 5]

As thanks for driving off the Wyvern, Alani also finally gets a meal as a final thank you from the town. In better spirits after a filling meal, Alani leaves the town, following the Innkeeper's directions for how to get to the next town. [Roll 1xD10 = 10]

Level Up! Gain 2 stat points. +1 STR , +1 DEX

*Knitter's Note: Calculating out 80 rows over 8 chapters (I'm guessing all 8 have similar row count?), I'll end up with a 6.3 ft long scarf. Which is kind of massive.... So I am choosing to skip one of the 6 row charts each chapter by rolling a D20 rather than 2 x D10's. I haven't read through the whole campaign yet... so I'll reevaluate the plan if there's any chapter that doesn't have double 6 row charts in it.

**Knitter’s Note 2: Watching Critical Role Campaign 1 while knitting this is fantastic. I’m super early in the campaign too, so lots of fun to knit a wyvern while Vox Machina is also fighting wyverns. (I thought it was cool at least, lol)
