Another corner of the new apartment 🏠 is complete. We hung bookshelves 📚 we recovered from the old apartment after the fire. Thanks to A few cycles of Murphys Oil Soap 🧼 and lemon 🍋 oil polish they’re as good as the day we made them! - One of my favorite pieces is my vintage yarn 🧶 swift! It made it out of the apartment a bit soggy, so @lularoejenpearce acted fast at carefully sanding all the intricate detail in the wood molding! She opened her home to us giving us space to lay out all the wet books all over her backyard, and use her ozone machine to get the smoke 💨 smell out of books 📚 and yarn 🧶 that survived I’m so very appreciative for her help in saving a lot of our most treasured belongings! - Every day we pull another item out of the POD that holds all our belongings recovered from the fire, and we strip it down and give it a new start! Can #FiberFriday be a thing? Anywaze, I've got a whole gaggle of pics for y'all today; I couldn't decide on just one, so swippity-swipe away! . There's a pretty long yarn incoming. Strap in. (See what I did there? 😉). . The other month or so when I visited family, my mom let me at her yarn stash. "Whatever you want to take is fine," she said. Y'all, that is like letting setting a toddler free in a candy shop and telling them to go wild. <commence running around and squealing like a squirrel> 😆 🐿. . Okay, so here's the thing. My mom has been a craft queen for decades. So I got some really lovely stuff from her. Cotton yarn from Greece, silk and rayon, some lovely wool blends, tweed acrylic. What's in the first picture is a mere fraction of what I brought home from her. Thank you, Mom! 🧶 💖. . Now, my fiber knowledge game isn't very good, but I am NOT about squander these lovely yarns. So on the recommendation of one of @tlyarncrafts latest YouTube videos, I picked up a copy of "Yarn Substitutions Made Easy" by Carol J Sulcoski. . This book knows its stuff. We start off by examining what different yarns look like on the microscopic level and how those microscopic differences give different materials the traits they have. I'm only on section 2 and I already feel like buckets of understand have been dumped on me. Like Gatorade on the winning coach at the Superbowl. . Yeah, I know. This is peak nerdy, but if you're at all interested in fiber, I cannot recommend this book enough. . Side note: Do y'all see that fluffalicious pup beside me? Made from all my extra bits of yarn, some of which are doubled up for thickness, I love this terrible sweater 🧶. . Best of all, it has pockets! . Honestly, if an article of clothing doesn’t have pockets, what are we even doing here? Anyway, I love how big it is. The thing practically swallows me, though I think I need to add some buttons or ties or something because it’s so slouchy it tends to fall off. … Life stuff: I’m plodding away on the silly sci-fi book. I’m close to halfway through the first edit--a huge bit of flailing over a train wreck of a chapter yesterday notwithstanding. After which I’ll go right back to the beginning to fix some stuff I know needs some serious work. Then it’ll be off to critique partners and my first reader 😱. ❓ #QOTD - What's your bookish hot take? Mine: I hated "Wurthering Heights." I'm sorry. I get what the book is saying, but I wanted to line up all the characters and give them all one long smack all the way down the row. My copy, however, does match my latest @knitcrate yarn, beatifully, tho. It's gonna make such a cozy cowl, perfect for walking the chilly moors on a foggy day, bare trees vague outlines in the distance, while one considers their gothic existence. ... ❓ #QOTD - Just holla back if you're psyched for fall like I am. Y'all, I might as well be living off pumpkin spice lattes with how jazzed I am about fall rolling in. The last few mornings have been beautiful, perfect weather for sipping coffee outside with a cozy cardigan or scarf for that little bit of extra warmth needed. And all the fall goodies are coming in at work--butternut squash mac and cheese, pumpkin ravioli, maple oat milk, the list goes on and on. And look at this month's fabulous yarn from @knitcrate !
