Day in the life of PhD student is like: 20 mails during the 5 hours I switch off my phone and slept, another 10 before I got to my office, trying to write one project for few hundred thousands for the whole department while someone didn't send me their materials and someone other thought about it and don't want to be included anymore so I've been rewriting it whole cause they were one of the key person

In one moment I got: 2 emails, text message from my student, another text from my advisor and a call from my friend/colleague and my brain froze just looking at the beeping and shining screen

Went and helped with another project, spent 2 hours calming someone down, had to fill out some other paperwork and surprise another call from my advisor

The moment i finished the call another colleague with excellent news came in, after they left i was called in another office to talk and another 2 hours of my time went out of the windows

Another 5 emails cause apparently suddenly I'm the master of our department funding and should be able to find 200£ for open acces

The last email was from my another another job, asking me if I'll travel across the country for a meeting on Thursday and of course i will cause what choice i have in this

It's 8pm, my student just texted me again, got another 4 emails waiting for me, the project is still not finished (I'm counting out the funding) and just got added to another group chat, this time it's wedding planning for my friend

And I know it's not a lot, but the fucking chaos is killing me and i had like 5 mins to myself in my office where i was laying on the floor trying to think about one good reason of not quitting

As a disclaimer, I'd recommend waiting until we have the full chapter to make any definitive statements on it. Something, something, leak culture bad.

With that said, though, I have been thinking for the past half hour or so about Izuku rejecting a partnership offer from Bakugo in Chapter 431, and while I'm adhering to my words above regarding that, I do want to push back on the opinion-- which I've seen a lot of people holding-- that doing so is automatically mischaracterization.

BNHA's story centers around Izuku and Bakugo's dynamic, and we see that dynamic shift in such a profound way over the series. We begin the story with Izuku simultaneously idolizing and fearing a boy who, by all appearances, despises him. Katsuki's a bully and an egotist, but like so many bullies and egotists, the way he's acting is a mask. It's a response to fear, and it's a very conventionally masculine one (that's another post, though). Katsuki's scared of Izuku, because even though Izuku is weak, quirkless, below him, Katsuki always feels like Izuku is above him. He's scared of this feeling, and that becomes anger. So he lashes out, keeps Izuku at arm's length, and it doesn't work, because no matter what he does or says, Izuku worships him. That's a very intentional word choice; there is a sort of religious quality to the two's early dynamic, where Katsuki is this unreachable figure who Izuku simultaneously fears and loves, who represents the apex of strength and power in his eyes. This is, to say the least, an extremely unhealthy relationship dynamic, and one which harms both of them.

It's impossible to talk about Izuku and Bakugo's character arcs independently of each other. I would describe them as two sides of a coin; Izuku's arc fundamentally centers around creation, and Bakugo's around destruction. When Izuku arrives at UA, he defines himself by his worship for All Might and Katsuki. Izuku models his costume and his fighting style after All Might, even using the same names for his moves. Simultaneously, he continues to internalize Bakugo's bullying, doubting himself, continuing to idolize Katsuki even as Katsuki's increasing feeling of inferiority spurs him to ramp up the torment. So Izuku's arc is about gaining independence; it's about creating his own identity, about self reliance. He reclaims the derogatory nickname Katsuki uses for him, develops Shoot Style, changes his costume, and starts standing up to Katsuki. Yes, he still admires Katsuki, still cares for him, but crucially, that admiration no longer comes at the cost of his self-respect. It's because of this change that Bakugo is forced to reckon with the root of his aggression. He spends the majority of the series working towards consciously grasping his feelings of inferiority, and a big part of that is confronting his preconceived notions of strength and weakness, and accepting that he can rely on others without being weak. (Again, so much of Bakugo's arc is tied to overcoming toxic masculinity, and I'll definitely need to write about that sometime, too.) The apology he gives to Izuku at the end of the Dark Hero Arc is one of the series' strongest narrative moments, and its a showcase of so much development-- it's a genuine expression of vulnerability, Bakugo dropping his veneer of superiority, something which would be unconscionable to the Katsuki we meet in chapter 1. That Izuku doesn't immediately accept and try to assuage Katsuki's guilt speaks to the development he's undergone, too. Izuku learns to rely on himself, while Bakugo learns to rely on others.

So, after these arcs, with Izuku finally repowered, Bakugo asks him: "Will you join my agency as my partner?" This is the natural conclusion of Bakugo's arc: it shows that he sees Izuku as an equal and he's prepared to rely on him as a partner. And yet, Izuku turns him down. I understand why people would be upset about that, and if he did accept the offer, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But at the same time, we've just talked about how Izuku's story has centered around gaining independence from his idols. At some level, Bakugo is asking Izuku to go back to defining himself by their relationship, and even though it's in a far more equitable way than the hero worship which used to describe their dynamic, it's completely reasonable and in-character for Izuku not to want that. Yes, it's sad, but I think acting as though this is out of character for Izuku basically requires ignoring his character development, and it implies a very simplified understanding of his and Katsuki's dynamic and how it evolves throughout MHA. Bakugo and Izuku have one of my favorite relationships in any media I've watched/read/played/etc. and it's frustrating to see Izuku's part in it essentially be disregarded.

LJ JUMPSCARE STAND B A CK

These have been in my files, dusting up LJ core BUT!! That's because I got STUCK at some point and put it to the side, and when I got back I was like. Do I still like these at all?? And the answer is yes, but not in a 'yeah I'll use these for suuuurre' type of way y'know-

So what are we looking at 🗣🗣 LJ concepts ofc!! And an Isaac mostly for scale, but don't look at him for too long he's not important rn. The idea was to have three LJ forms/phases (actually four, I was super ambitious idk), but here we see just two; Rainbow and LIAR!! >:((

Rainbow speaks for itself, that is fresh LJ, dare we say baby LJ- Tried to put some old clown inspiration into his fit here and there, the deranged amount of colours might throw it off a bit, but tbh! I like that!! Adds to the whole 'he LOOKS like he could be from here, but if you stare too long it starts feeling a lil uncanny' ig? Same way his facial features and general proportions are pretty human, but again, if you look for too long?? Hhmmmmm.

Moving on to LIAR!! Basically his whole deal was that he's supposed to be the form LJ takes when being a big ol liar, basically. Docile and non threatening for the little ones DESPITE HIS SIZE (I actually scaled him down, he was even bigger ffgvhbb), with more doll-like/silly proportions. That's really all there is too it, just a less scary form for deceiver reasons.

And here's where I got stuck! LJ's default, let's call it that. The form he's in when going about his business, whatever that is, potentially hanging out with his fellow creeps and pastas, those sorts of things. I just could not settle on what I wanted to do?? Something that made him creepier, still kept some design elements from the previous versions, but wasn't a simple (taller) copy and paste either- Focusing on his face for all of that would NOT have saved me I was COOKED smh 😔😔

So I'm allowing myself to start over! Sort off!! See if that helps idk, but I sure hope so?? I'd really like to have a LJ that I enjoy drawing repeatedly-

Ares always knew her by her feather.

It was always such an easy thing to spot in any crowd, bobbing above the sea of heads like a cute white buoy. Even tonight, when everyone was sporting garb running the whole gamut of strange to elegant, he could pick it out from across the ballroom.

"Nanna!"

He was calling her name before she even had the chance to turn around, and without an ounce of hesitation in his tone. He could already picture no face but his cousin's waiting to smile at him from the other side of that head of short gold locks.

"Perhaps you've heard from Leif already, but we've revived our duel, and -- "

He talked on, already picturing no face but his cousin's waiting to smile at him from the other side of that head of short gold locks. So imagine the rare shock seizing his face solid, and the way his voice so quickly packs up all its warmth and retreats back to silence, when a pair of copper red eyes turn to meet his.

He couldn't help but blink, perhaps hoping those red eyes might suddenly turn gold like he remembers, and save him from this awkward silence.

"…I beg your pardon," he finally said in much stiffer tone, after having finally made some sense of the doppelganger standing before him. "I mistook you for another."

Just when he thought he'd grown numb to the strange happenings of this continent...

Citrinne has now taken flight to the middle of the ballroom, weaving through couples as if participating in a dance of her own. She would love to join them all eventually, but there is still so much to see tonight...and for a dance to really sparkle, the music must be just right. She searches for nothing, yet everything at once.

Nanna!

A voice from behind appears to be searching as well, though their calling makes his target more discrete. Citrinne has heard this name previously, from Ethlyn's visual comparison. Almost like a prophecy, the mixup has come back to bite her.

The Brodian doesn't turn immediately, somewhat dazed by the man's zealous speech. She is guilty of overhearing what could possibly be personal secrets...with the name "Leif'' coming up once more. Is that three times now? He must be quite the popular one, on top of any strength Citrinne could already assume.

That's enough eavesdropping. The poor man will already be shaken enough even before he started pouring his heart out to a stranger.

Ruby eyes interlock with the person previously behind her, revealing a tall, blonde man layered in black and gold. He wears a cape similar to her own, ignoring the obvious color difference.

Citrinne does not speak at first, retaining her neutral expression - one that could be mistaken for a glare on first observation. She does not mean to produce uneasy silence, but she is too busy staring over this mystery man to properly speak. Their faces are unmistakably distinct, yet it is hard to not be reminded of one of her elder brothers. His previous tone even matches whenever either would be excited after a grueling battle.

The tone he speaks in now is rougher, more formal. While the shift is understandable...she almost wishes to hear first voice again. The voice of faraway brothers.

"No pardon is necessary," Citrinne finds the right words to address the stranger. While her face refuses to change, her voice sounds gentle and understanding. "You confused me because of this feather, right? Another person has already forewarned me of such circumstance...this Nanna must be very special to you."

She doesn't mean to pry into their relationships, just make idle conversation to recover from the misunderstanding. Nanna and Leif were said to be lovers, so this man must be...a sibling? Relative?

She holds out a hand to reach the taller man. "I am Citrinne. I may not be the feathered blonde you expected, but I hope we may become acquainted nevertheless. May I ask for your name, good sir?"
