So, wouldn't it be fun if, when the Cataclysm happens, we temporarily enter a trial stage where we can see what the rest of Teyvat is doing while we're (presumably) in Khaenri'ah?
Like, Paimon makes an off-handed remark about how she hopes our friends are alright before we enter a domain, and next thing you know, we're playing as Jean back in Mondstadt, following her as she orders the knights to defend the city, before finding out to the Cathedral has been targeted and running up the flights of stairs alongside Lisa, Noelle, Mika and Eula. Once they reach the Cathedral, they rush to the basement alongside Barbara, only to find Albert rifling through priceless artifacts.
Then Albert reveals himself to be an Abyss Herald, saying how he spent the past years pretending to be an unsettling Barbara fan so he could be near the Cathedral and figure out the building's layout, as well as learn more about Barbatos.
We then beat him up for it. (I just want an excuse to beat up Albert). And, after the battle is over, Barbara wonders about Rosaria's whereabouts.
Rosaria is currently rushing through Springvale, trying to reach Wolvendom to see if Razor is alright. Diona, Bennet and Fischl are following her, alongside Draff and a few hunters.
They fight alongside Andrius and a pack of wolves, fending off the Abyss, especially the rifthounds (the people of Springvale evacuated to Mondstadt City).
And, just as the next wave of monsters appears, we cut to Dawn Winery, where Diluc, Kaeya and Amber are protecting the estate. (Assuming Kaeya is in Mond and not fighting his demons back in Khaenri'ah).
Meanwhile, in Dragonspine, Albedo, Mona, Klee and Sucrose are fending off a bunch of Abyssal monsters with the help of Albedo's siblings (there's an entire pack of rifthounds circling the group in a protective manner).
Then we hear an earth-shattering roar and a revived Durin suddenly takes to the sky, starting the final segment of the Mond Cataclysm fight, where we accompany Dvalin, Durin and Venti in a battle in the skies, the old foes now allies.
Then we jump from region to region, finding out how our friends are doing while the world burns to the ground.
Notable mentions that I'll probably include in another post at a later date include:
- Qiqi healing Millelith soldiers while Keqing fends off the Abyss;
- Hu tao, Shenhe and Baizhu dealing with restless spirits in Wuwang Hill;
- Rhodeia single-handledly protecting Qingce Village with a thousand Hydro mimics;
- The Akitsu Kimodameshi Youkai children attempting to protect other kids in Hanamizaka, and when that almost fails, Itto and Yoimiya swoop in to protect the kids;
- Sara, Heizou, Kokomi and Gorou working together to fend off monsters coming from the Dark Sea to Watatsumi, with Raiden on the frontlines;
- Yae sending out fox spirits to protect Narukami Island from atop the Shrine;
- Xiao, Yelan and Yanfei fighting at the Chasm;
- Wanderer fighting alongside the Pari before returning to Sumeru city to help Nahida;
- Nahida and the Aranara coordinating efforts to protect and guide all the people of Sumeru, be if by offering protection or providing oasis and safe havens;
- The Akasha being temporarily back so the entire regionof Sumeru is connected, with eremites and people from the rainforest sharing knowledge, be it the location of enemies, evacuation routes or first-aid tips. The children and elderly are also swapping stories, to calm each other down and avoid panicking;
- Nilou is guarding the Sanctuary of Surasthana, not that anyone is getting near Sumeru city, what with the green shield of Dendro and Apep looming in the background;
- Lyney and Lynette looking for Freminet, only to see a gigantic hydro construct of Pers fighting a Wolflord alongside the Salon Solitaire (Freminet and Furina besties agenda);
- Enemies such as Treasure Hoarders and Fatui fighting alongside the playable characters against the Abyss.

not you again “scaramouche x male reader”
episode four — yes grandma, i'll rub your bare feet. just don't call grandpa over to tell his war stories again... 📖
warnings: vulgar language, toxic family relations (scara/ei)
notes: i was too lazy to think of a real plot 🫶
“We’re going to Inazuma to visit some of your aunts. When you go home, go up to your room and pack, Kunikuzushi.”
Ei stood silently, her back turned to her son as she watched the courtyard down below the principal’s office window. She was ‘patrolling’ again, some idiotic habit she developed from surveilling her past soliders. Scaramouche was sulked in a chair with his arms crossed and face and knuckles bandaged.
“Can’t I go to Sumeru? You always send me there when I do something that doesn’t fit your dumb expectations.”
Sumeru was the only place he could actually stand. The warm weather made it perfectly for the male to wear his shorts and not Liyue’s…unnecessarily disgusting uniforms.
Ei didn’t bother turning around when she responded. “Kusanali told me of your… endeavors with Inazuma. I can’t possibly send you back to Sumeru if you’re still struggling with your culture. How will you follow in your mother’s steps?”
“Step-mother’s. Just because she gets your pussy wet doesn’t mean I have to like her.”
When those words left his mouth, Scaramouche immediately pressed his lips together. He sulked lower in his chair as he waited for his mother to respond. She didn’t for a while, the silence almost deafening.
She spoke, her voice cold and stern like a dagger made of ice. “You will be going whether you want to or not. You will not disappoint me again.”
( Ningguang has sat quiet many times before. It’s not like she feared Raiden, oh no, but she has power to make the very institution that she has worked her ass off to build the most pathetic school you can send your child to.
She has a kid of her own, adopted, but very loved by her and her wife. She can’t imagine what Scaramouche is feeling right now. )
“As much as I love the punishments for someone’s actions,” Ningguang started. “This is a young man’s education we are discussing. I would suggest taking time out of your day to home school him so Scaramouche can still get his high school diploma.”
It was quiet after she spoke. Scaramouche didn’t have a loving mother, or someone he could talk to in Inazuma and homeschooling him would give him something both what he and his mother wants, 1) his high school diploma, and 2) some control over his moving situation.
Ei sighed, turning around to meet Ningguang and Scaramouche. ”…Fine.” She pauses as she looks at the time on her watch. “I suppose I should care somewhat about his future.”
“Aww Y/N! I’m gonna miss you!” Ajax hugged you really tightly, his muscles from wrestling choking you. You tap his arm repeatedly, “Too tight..!” He doesn’t let you go until Yanfei pulls him off of you, pulling his ear like a stern mother.
You catch your breath, silently thanking Yanfei for her help. “I’ll come back after the summer. Don’t miss me too much.”
Hu-Tao sulks siltently and Yanfei scolds her, “‘Tao! Aren’t you gonna say goodbye?” Hu-Tao eyes her before continuing to text on her phone.
“It’s not like we can’t call him. Y/N’ll still have his phone.” She snorts like it was an obvious fact. It was still rude but you couldn’t blame her. Hu-Tao always had a weird way of saying goodbye to people.
Xingqui speaks up, “Didn’t you hear? Y/N’s dad placed him on a phone-ban.”
Hu-Tao immediately drops her phone and runs up to hug you almost as tightly Tartaglia did. “No! This can’t be! Please tell me the boy with blue hair and pronouns is lying!” She whined, pawing at your shirt.
“He’s not. I’ma have to… email you guys.”
Childe sobs and both him and Hu-Tao get on their knees, heart broken. “E-email?! Who uses that anymore?!” Yanfei coughs and Xingqui diverts his eyes.
Before any other gay could speak, the large airport had rung its announcement. A loud speaker phone spoke, “Flight 827, Liyue to Mondstadt, please begin boarding. Flight 827, Liyue to Mondstadt, please begin boarding…”
“It’s time.” Yanfei frowns. She gives you one last hug before patting your back. “Good luck with your college applications.”
Hu-Tao looks up from her crying, “C-college?” You snort at her crying face, trying to maintain a serious composure. “M-mhmh…” You nod.
You start walking away to your flight before the announcement rings again with Hu-Tao and Childe crying louder now that they still have work to do over the summer while Yanfei and Xingqui comfort them.
Let’s just hope that nothing weird happens.
Your flight wasn’t weird, you mainly just listened to music and slept the entire four hour flight. The sweet lady seated beside you woke you up once your flight landed.
Getting off was even better, your luggage and small suitcases of clothing and necessities were the easiest things to notice in the crowd of colorful and decorated vacation luggage.
“Y/N, my sweetie! You’ve grown so big, you don’t fit in my arms anymore.” A lady runs up to you and hugged you, probably in her late forties or early fifties. She wore a pink dress for spring while a man (also looked around forty or fifty) accompanied her.
“Hi granny. Hey gramps.”
“Oh come on, give your granny a kiss! I haven’t seen my little boy in so long!” Your grandmother squishes your cheeks and stretches them. “Grandma!”
Your grandfather has to pull her off of you for her to stop. “Honey, let him be. He must be tired-sick from his long flight.”
”Oh you’re right! Come, sweetie, let’s take you home; I’ll make you the best apple pie you can eat!”

What about a finch!creator? Qiqi really wants a pet finch so maybe creator decides to humor her and help her out. When baizhu comes to the pharmacy next time, he sees a little bird carrying around prescriptions and smaller herbs for qiqi.
Yenfei has to seek help for a legal case and is met with a bird as qiqi has gone out to collect herbs and Baizhu is helping another patient. Stuff like that
Qiqi, Baizhu & Yanfei Encounter
૮꒰˶ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ˶꒱ა Pairings : GN! Finch Reader x Qiqi, Baizhu & Yanfei
꒰ྀི∩´ ᵕ `∩꒱ྀིა W.K. : 286
໒꒰ྀིᵔ ᵕ ᵔ ꒱ྀི১ Tags/CW&TW : Fluff, reader confusion
Being a finch wasn’t too bad. Meals were bigger. That’s a plus.
And also the fact that you had been adopted by Qiqi and Baizhu. Probably also that.
When you finally figured out your whole… situation. Your first genuine thought was ‘What bird am I?’
Unfortunately you were not a bird specialist.
so you ended up staring into a puddle for little over an hour.
That was until a certain light blue haired girl appeared behind you.
“… A nice little finch.”
Welp. There’s your answer.
And from that day forward, you were the second animal companion to the Bubu Pharmacy.
If you weren’t following Qiqi around in order to make sure she didn’t get lost or forget her current objectives, you’d be retrieving herbs Baizhu. Hell, you’d been fitted with your own little bird pack on your back for safer keeping.
Something you weren’t expecting however, was Qiqi wrapping a talisman with the same symbol as hers around your neck, muttering about it being for protection.
And you certainly weren’t expecting to freeze a random guy when he startled you.
Oops.
Well no matter, you were officially the messenger bird of Bubu pharmacy. And you loved it.
“I wasn’t expecting a… finch?” Yanfei wondered. All she asked for was a quick statement in terms of a medicine from
out of nation. For a rather… idiotic case. But it was a case none the less.
You puffed up at her disrespect, but still gently pulled at the pouch on your leg. Pulling out a parchment that was the statement, you put it on her desk, looked her up and down, then flew away once more.
“Oh! Uhm… thank you!(?)” Yeah, she was not expecting a finch.

Hi there! How do you think a team composition of Raiden, Diluc/Yelan (depending on the day), Kaeya and Kazuha would work? Especially in SAGAU terms.
I headcannon that Ei once referred to Kaeya as "son of Khaenri'ah" and Diluc has been defensive ever since.
Forgive me if I get Yelan's characterization wrong - she's one of the few characters I don't have, the most I've seen of her was the story quest, the Chasm event with Itto and Yanfei, and that she apparently stole a coat Pantalone wanted to give to the Tsaritsa, which honestly would immediately put her in Diluc's good books.
That being said - for Diluc and Yelan, I think the switching would work out really well. I mean, they're both busy businesspeople with probably tightly packed schedules, so I reckon your usual antics might even start a close partnership between the two, even if only on a personal level, i.e. each updating the other on what was done during their turn as that day's chosen vessel, or asking the other to potentially cover for them on a day where they just really really couldn't make it. They'd be grateful for the on and off schedule, it gives them time.
Yelan and Kaeya look like they'd be the kind of fast friends that are friendly only on the surface, because they are both distrustful of each other since they're equally sneaky, but I see them growing accustomed to each other as you take them out together. Hydro and Cryo work well naturally, and I can see them having an easier time working in synergy the more they begin to understand one another. It's not openness - neither of them is going to share their innermost workings with someone like that - but it is a form of comraderie that they both end up being thankful for. I'd wager Yelan reminds Kaeya of Rosaria somewhat, and that on downtimes, the two have gone out for drinks and perhaps some gambling.
As for himself and Diluc, Kaeya finds himself even more thankful for the opportunity. The chance for their bond to truly heal from what happened on the day of Crepus's death had not yet surfaced. He knew Diluc still cared - but in a different, silent, far more distant way than before. Kaeya did miss having his brother have his back, and doing the same for him. The first months were difficult - packed with "This meams nothing" and "I am following the Overseer's will, that is all", with Diluc ditching the place as soon as you tabbed out. Kaeya's teasing feels sharp, Diluc is almost cold, and the two can bicker back and forth so often that one would forget they are not the only ones on the team. The teasing never truly goes away. Diluc never truly lowers his guard. But the moment anyone or anything gets in the way of one, the other will lend a hand almost on instinct.
Diluc justifies it as doing it for you. You placed them together, and you rely on both of them, and it is very clear that you like them both enough to place them on your main team. You surely don't want any of them hurt, right? They both use the same argument to justify not sparring - a suggestion brought up by the Shogun, who was genuinely trying to help. Of course it's not because deep down both of them want the best for one another - it is simply because you want the best for both of them. Of course.
But if that were the reason, why would Diluc place himself between his brother and the Archon every time since he heard that one casual remark? He didn't know what bothered him so much about it - it was accurate, wasn't it? Son of Khaenri'ah. There was a time, once, when Diluc would've called it preposterous - Kaeya was a son of Crepus, just like he was. Regardless of his birth parents, he'd been raised a Ragnvindr.
But... was that really true? Had it ever been?
Being placed on the same team as Kaeya, Diluc finds himself grappling with thoughts he had back when everything came to light. For the vast majority of his life, Kaeya had been, indeed, just as much a child of Khaenri'ah as Diluc was a child of Mondstadt. But a man's future is not defined by his past - instead, his present. Kaeya is as much of a sneaky bastard as Diluc is used to him being... but the more the two work together, the more he realises that Kaeya has become more of a Mondstadter than he himself is aware of. He may have been a child of Khaenri'ah once, but the man he's grown into is as much of his brother as he thought him to be as children.
He does not, however, say this out loud. Ever.
The Shogun has since stopped reffering to him as that - it very clearly makes both of them incredibly uncomfortable, and though it is nice to get a break from the bickering, she was not actually looking to offend anybody. So far she's taken to reffering to Kaeya by title instead, adressing him as Captain. She doesn't strike me as the type to jump directly to being on a first name basis with people, and would want to maintain that distance.
Her and Diluc interact very little - she much prefers the Yelan days now, if only due to the fact that she knows there's still some lingering tension from that little incident. I could see the two getting along somewhat well before, but the relationship definitely soured in that awkward quiet way that never leads to an actual confrontation. But then again, I can see this being a very, VERY tense team. Like seriously the only person here that has no beef at all is Yelan.
Because while the brothers' antics take the main stage - their bickering is dramatic and explosive and their jabs at each other end up taking the attention from othet issues, which is quite thr relief - there is also the strained feelings between Kazuha and the Shogun.
Oh yes.
You and the Traveler may have gotten through to the Archon, shown her the power of people's hopes and dreams, and helped repel the Vision Hunt Decree. Inazuma may now be open again, and the Nation of Electro may be slowly rebuilding itself and its foreign relations after the civil war. The Shogun had her redemption arc, and joined you as a Vessel, and so far she has been nothing but helpful and reliable on the field of combat.
But Kazuha's friend is not any less dead.
Kazuha himself says that he's thought about it, and that he holds no resentment towards the Shogun. His friend died in an honorable duel, and that's that. But not resenting someone doesn't automatically mean a close or good relationship, nor does it mean that what was done has been forgotten. Kazuha supposes he'll trust your judgement, and that the Shogun is there to help - but there's still that lingering fear, that cold sweat when he wakes up and that shiver running down his back, because the aftermath of a war is never easy, and though she's on their side now, what if one day she isn't. Were it not for the brothers' antics - and possibly Kaeya, let us be honest here, he's the one who talks - the team would be... very, very silent.
From either angle, your team is PACKED with tension, but hopefully they'll be able to slowly grow to rely on each other, and maybe mend what was broken along the way.
With a bit of luck they go out for drinks and dango. I think they deserve it.

marigold promises
— 30. ice cream for three [☕︎ = 0.7k words]
notes: i'm back~ this also takes place a month after the start of second sem
Your concentration is broken by a sharp ring, and you glance up to see Albedo reaching for his phone.
"Sorry," he mouths, before answering the call. "Mom? Let me guess, you need me to pick her up?"
You watch as a small smile spreads across Albedo's face, and you realize this must be something he does for his Auntie Rhine on a regular basis; you’ve gathered that much from the handful of times he didn’t attend class to assist her with something, not to mention the one time he missed out a couple hours of training to help her out. But you never expected that he would have to pick up his sister. How often does he do this, you wonder.
“Alright, I’ll see you,” he hangs up and starts packing his things. "Sorry to cut this short, Cupcake."
You seize the opportunity before you. This could finally be your chance to get answers. “It’s cool. Say... is it alright if I join you?”
He raises an eyebrow at your request, “I’m sure you have better things to do than accompany me in picking up my sister from school.”
You lean forward, resting your elbows on the table. “Well, let’s just say I’m curious. I’d like to meet her if it’s alright with you.”
After a moment's hesitation, Albedo nods. “Alright. Hurry up and pack your things, I don’t want us to miss the next bus.”
Being a bus stop away from campus, Windrise Park quickly became a hotspot for any college students looking for a change of scenery while skipping class or anyone looking to relax.
The breeze picks up and rustles the nearby trees and flora, filling the air with a sweet, earthy scent. Further into the park lies a playground where you spot some children running as their laughter fills the air, most of them wearing the uniform of the nearby Favonius Academy. You see a child run up to her father on some nearby benches. He ruffles the child’s hair as a bright smile appears on her face.
Your chest tightens with longing as you watch the children be showered with a father's love, a mother's pride. You yearn for the warmth of a parent's love, but know that it will forever elude you.
Albedo walks beside you at a comfortable pace, his gait easygoing while he adjusts the strap of his bag. What is he like as a brother, you wonder. Does he tease her relentlessly? Does he laugh with her, does he comfort her when she cries? Has he shared in her joy, has he shared pride in her achievements?
The dodoco keychain on his belt loop answers your questions.
You and Albedo finally make it to the gates of the Favonius Academy when a young girl with pale blonde hair runs up and hugs Albedo.
“There you are.” Albedo’s eyes soften, his hand moving to ruffle his sister’s hair. She pushes his hand away, laughing as she does so. The girl’s light red eyes look into yours, and you immediately feel as if you are intruding on a private moment. She pulls on Albedo's sleeve while tilting her head at you.
“Klee, this is [name],” You respond to Albedo's gesture with a brief wave. “[name], this is my sister Klee.”
Klee's eyes lit up with recognition. "Oh, so they're the one you keep talking about!" she beamed. "It's nice to meet you."
Albedo's composure slipped for a moment as he struggled to find the right words. "I'm sorry," he stammered. "She can be quite... enthusiastic."
You laugh at the absurdity; it’s hard not to be endeared by Klee’s contagious enthusiasm. In some ways, she reminds you of your younger cousins – the ones you only get to see during the holidays.
The mere thought of spending the holidays with your immediate and extended family sends a shiver down your spine. This year, as well as the last, you had chosen to stay with Ganyu and Yanfei, but you can't help but worry about your cousins' well-being. You love your family, sure, but the prospect of facing the same old arguments, criticisms, and uncomfortable conversations makes you want to run for the hills.
You elbow Albedo gently and nod toward a nearby ice cream shop. If Klee is anything like Albedo, you know that treating her to a sweet treat will be a surefire way to win her over.
“Are you actually trying to buy her off with sweets?” he sees right through your attempt at bribery.
“Why? Is it gonna work?”
Albedo groans, “Unfortunately.”

In honor of the first snowfall of winter...
...SAGAU during a snow day!
Snow always means different things to different people. Some spend snowy days outside, having fun with others, or perhaps just trying to get to work through all the snow. Others spend the days cuddled up inside, wrapped in warm blankets and sweaters with a mug of their preferred warm drink.
Such is the way things are in Teyvat as well. When windows cloud with frost and the ground turns an enchanting, glittering white, all of the beings of Teyvat have their ways of spending their time during the cold seasons.
But when the Creator themself comes to live amongst their creations, who knows what will happen?
~°•☆~Fluff, wintertime activities, just a lot of wholesomeness here~☆•°~
The ending of the year tends to bring cold weather and biting winds to most places, and with it comes warmer clothes and festive fashions. Heavy coats, elegant scarves, and cute mittens are put on display in shop windows, inviting passersby to partake in a bit of Holiday Shopping. And who would Your most loyal followers be if they didn't take You shopping? It would be a travesty! This totally isn't an excuse to spoil you or see you in the latest wintery fashions, parish the thought. They buy you anything that catches your eye.
°•☆~ Ningguang, Ayaka, Lisa, Yae Miko, Yelan, Dori, Dehya ~☆•°
Laughter and shrieks of joy are heard from outside as a Snowball Fight takes place. It's an all-out, no-bars-held brawl of packed snow and good aim. A nostalgic sight for You, to be sure. Everyone around You can see how You wish to go out and take part in the liveliness... and some of them see no reason to stop You! In fact, a few acolytes even pull you into the fray, whether it be by pulling You down beside them behind their haphazard snow fort or simply by nailing You with a snowball. They'll make sure You have fun, regardless of what others might say!
°•☆~ Childe, Itto, Klee, Heizou, Lyney, Hu Tao, Amber ~☆•°
Once the chilly battle is won, there are plenty of other things to do while everyone has energy! Sledding is always fun, especially when You have someone pulling you down onto a toboggan and taking off before You can realize what's going on. So what if you end up half buried in a snowbank after crashing into it? That's part of the fun!
°•☆~ Childe(again), Gorou, Beidou, Bennett, Kaeya, Xinyan, Yoimiya, Yaoyao, Thoma ~☆•°
Speaking of getting buried in snow... Snow Angels are a classic way of winding down, isn't it? Especially when the little ones are pulling You by the hand, eager to get their turn to play with You! Laughter and shouts of "There's snow in my shirt!" never cease to amuse, especially when You get to stand up and see the product of Your fun in the form of people-shaped silhouettes in the glittering snow.
°•☆~ Qiqi, Yaoyao, Gorou, Klee, Nahida, Razor, Mika ~☆•°
Ah, but while some are playing, others are hard at work, putting up decorations and making everything look beautiful! Tinsel, lights, everything that can make the houses and streets look straight out of a winter wonderland. Some are on the roof, some are on ladders, and some lucky folks can use unique abilities and equipment to avoid the usual struggles. And of course, there are also those on the ground giving orders and suggestions. You know, to avoid the hassle of climbing up and down over and over again to make sure everything looks right.

Finally, when it's time to go inside to warm up, there are several people who have been Cooking and Making Warm Drinks. Tea, hot chocolate, cookies and biscuits, all sorts of tasty treats and drinks! The smell of baked goods and tasty food permeates the air, and thankfully, everything was planned and timed perfectly so that everyone could enjoy something delicious when they came inside.

While playing in the snow is definitely a lot of fun, there are always those who prefer to spend their time indoors, wrapped in blankets and sweaters with a warm mug and a good book in hand. When everyone finally returns from outside, it's these people who enjoy telling the stories they read and helping everyone find a cozy spot to warm up in.
°•☆~ Alhaitham, Zhongli, Neuvillette, Sayu, Sucrose, Tighnari, Candace, Baizhu ~☆•°
And what's a good holiday if there isn't singing and laughter? Jokes are told, songs are sung, and the atmosphere is bright and lively as music drifts through the air. Of course, there are a few who groan at the awful jokes someone tells, but it just serves to make things better.
°•☆~ Cyno, Venti, Barbara, Yun Jin, Nilou ~☆•°
And of course, winter holidays often mean presents, and that means gift wrapping! Bright paper, pretty ribbons, and parcels and packages of all sizes are scattered about. Some of these boxes are wrapped up so neat and pretty, while some unfortunate folks and up with tape all over their fingers.
°•☆~ Freminet, Kirara, Keqing, Ganyu, Collei ~☆•°
No matter how you celebrate the winter season, here's wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year. Cheers to you and yours, I'll see you all next year.

« rewind. / pause. / fast forward. »
"ah, you're back."
shinobu was the first person you saw as you walked through the doors of fontaine legal firm once again. "i won't lie to you, i was starting to think something had happened when you didn't show up until now—halfway through our lunch break."
"i guess i've been that busy, heh..." you rubbed the nape of your neck sheepishly.
"be careful not to overwork yourself... i know we had just thrown a rookie like you into our messy work situation on the first day, but let me know if you need some time to yourself."
"don't worry about me!" you grinned. "after what i've been through, i can take anything you got!"
the green-haired, young woman smiled, her violet eyes crinkling a bit. "alright then... go ahead and have your lunch break."
"got it!"
"do you need me to get to your cubicle? it should have no name plate on it yet."
you assured her that you'd be fine, and off you went in search for your little office. ah, to be an official attorney! there was nothing like having a well-deserved break after the few hours that gone by... maybe you'd ought to get a little bit more work done to get ahead.
speak of the devil, you've heard your phone buzz from your pocket. fishing it out, you opened it up, seeing you got few texts.
ah, if it isn't by beloved partner! (well, soon-to-be beloved partner, but i digress.)
unfortunately, the lack of evidence for our cases is holding us down. me and my acquaintance are working to search for some (specifically for the case regarding itto) and i was wondering if you would like to join the two of us? it'd serve as a great learning opportunity! ;)
- heizou
the way he questionably texts like he talks and how he somehow got your number we're pushed to the back of your mind when you suddenly heard yanfei from the distance.
"[name]!" before you could greet her back, she cut you off with your news. "great news! we're making a little bit of progress in tartaglia's case!! not-so-great news, he kind of broke out of prison-"
"WHAT—yanfei, you can't just say that-!"
"it's alright!! the police are already on the case... and if he doesn't show up to his court date, he'll get a bench warrant and be back in custody so we could run his trial! though, it isn't exactly guaranteed if we'll ever find him..."
the young attorney started to mutter herself, walking away from your shocked figure as her words started to become more and more incomprehensible.
you sighed to yourself, before looking at your lunch again. this was definitely a matter that would require a better state of mind... and for that, you need to get some food in your system.
unfortunately, your plans to eat were thwarted once more.
"hey."
upon hearing the familiar voice before digging into the undoubtedly delicious lunch you've packed, you narrowed your eyes before glancing behind you. 'lo and behold, alhaitham was standing before you.
"you."
"i was about to think you've changed after we graduated from law school, but i suppose i'm incorrect," the way he talked never failed to vex you.
did he even work here? maybe shinobu was correct about overworking yourself and you were reaping the consequences of your actions by having delusions. however, it only took a glimpse of his i.d. badge mirroring your nonexistent one to (unfortunately) confirm that he indeed, worked here.
"what do you want?" you asked, then taking your lunch to set it on your lap and started to unpack it—you weren't about to let him further delay your lunch!
"shinobu still insists for me to work with somebody on my case... and given you're not the lead attorney in any cases as far as i know, i'm considering to push our quarreling aside in the name of professionalism."
that was the most eloquence he carried in his voice when he talked to you... but never mind that!
↳ agree to work with him. perhaps it was about time to set aside your differences and be mature, working adults for once!
↳ you can't—you're dead set on finding tartaglia. something tells you that you won't find him unless you're there yourself... but that could be just uneasiness.
↳ you weren't planning on going with heizou to go evidence hunting—but that seems to be a way more interesting than whatever alhaitham's doing.
↳ you were on your lunch break for a reason! refuse to work with him—you have some more important things to attend to.

Losing Control

Summary:
Ningguang, Beidou, Yelan, and Yanfei set off on a journey together to bring a long-lost artifact back into the right hands. With Beidou acting as bodyguard while the Tianquan, agent, and law expert determine how best to handle the situation, the uncrowned lord of the ocean must deal with a demon from the past – despite Ningguang’s multiple warnings. How will the two handle such a delicate situation?
Read on Ao3
Beidou had always preferred roughing it on the sea as opposed to land. As the Uncrowned Lord of the Ocean, her domain was among the waves. But every once in a while, when she was asked for by name, she’d agree to missions that brought her away from the deep.
This was one such case. Ningguang had dubbed the occasion so important that she personally took the role of lead - an extremely rare circumstance. Beidou knew this wasn’t going to be easy if she was taking it upon herself to plan and execute.
They had received a report from Yelan that she and her network believed they’d discovered a long-lost artifact dating back to the time of Rex Lapis as they were exploring The Chasm. Ningguang had tapped Yanfei to make the journey with her so they could confirm its authenticity and determine how best to protect it as a part of Liyue’s history.
And that brought them to Beidou. As the muscle of the team, she’d act as a bodyguard in the event of any interference by outside parties. Naturally, this trip would require them all to camp out for multiple days, and she was already dreading hearing the Tianquan’s complaints about “roughing it.”
They had taken the route between Lingju Pass and Qingxu Pool and stopped for the night just before they made it to The Chasm. Beidou knew they could have easily made it there faster had it just been her and Ningguang, but with Yanfei in tow, she didn’t want to push.
“Let’s go over the plan once more,” Ningguang instructed as they sat around the campfire. “Yelan’s sent word that there are plenty of treasure hoarders out there who’d kill to get their hands on what they’ve found. Listen to me now because I will not repeat myself, Captain Beidou,” she said as she cast a serious glance in her direction.
“Uh, Yanfei’s here too, ya know. She can be quite the firecracker,” she shot back with a scowl.
“It’s not Yanfei I’m worried about, as I think she’ll agree with what I’m about to say next. We are to take these criminals back to Liyue alive with no serious injuries. I will have them answer for their crimes. They’ve terrorized the good people of the surrounding villages for long enough.”
“Yea, yea I hear you,” Beidou said with a roll of her eyes. She didn’t make a habit of roughing people up more than was necessary to get a job done. It was rare she ever needed to take more…drastic measures.
“Lady Ningguang, before we get a good night’s rest, there are a few different scenarios I’d like to run by you. Would you mind staying up just a bit longer?” Yanfei asked.
“Not at all. Beidou, please take this opportunity to sleep before your watch begins,” Ningguang said dismissively.
“You’re the boss,” Beidou huffed under her breath.
The rest of the evening was uneventful, and Beidou had only slightly drifted off a few times. The group packed up camp and hiked for half a day before meeting up with Yelan and her squad.
“Wow, Beidou. You look like shit,” Yelan cracked. “Seems like not much has changed since the last time I saw you.”
“First of all, that’s Captain Beidou to you. Second, I can’t say you look any better, you fu-“
“Beidou! Yelan! Enough,” Ningguang barked.
The two looked back at her like children who’d just been caught doing something they shouldn’t.
“We don’t have time for petty nonsense. Yelan, take Yanfei and I to the location. Beidou, I expect absolute vigilance. Violence, if necessary, but remember…”
“I KNOW. Alive. Heard you the first fuckin’ time,” Beidou said between clenched teeth.
The team had been gone for nearly an hour before Beidou heard a rustle in the trees.
Of course this wasn’t going to be easy.
One, two…three shadows appeared in the shade of the forest. She’d be outnumbered, but not overpowered.
“You might as well just come out. You’re not exactly Inazuman ninja. I’ve seen hilichurls hide better than you. Let’s get this over with, shall we?” she taunted.
An arrow ripped past, and she moved her head just in time to dodge it. The other two men charged forward, weapons drawn. Beidou raised her claymore, parrying their blows in succession.
“That’s the best you can do? Shit, I was hoping for a little workout, but this is just sad.”
One of them lunged at her, and with a swift chop to the back of his neck, he was out cold.
See, Ningguang? Unharmed. Not that hard.
Another arrow shot forth, this time close enough to leave a scratch on her cheek.
Damnit. Gonna have to take that sucker out before I deal with Mr. Thinks-he’s-a-samurai over here.
Driving her claymore into the ground, she let forth a powerful burst of electro energy directly through the earth toward the man taking refuge among the trees.
“Aghhhhhh!”
“Got ya!” She chuckled. Maybe this wouldn’t be such a boring fight after all. Turning her attention to the last man standing, she paused to catch her breath.
“So, tell me…is this all really worth it to you guys? What’s the endgame?”
“You cocky bitch! You’re privileged enough to not have any clue what kind of effect obtaining that artifact would have on our lives.” With a swing of his sword, the two fighters met once more with a loud clang.
“I don’t know, looks like you bunch of clowns are the ones with your heads up your asses. Didn’t your mothers ever tell you not to take what isn’t yours? From what I hear, this is a piece of history that belongs to all of Liyue, and we intend to keep it that way,” Beidou explained as she gave him a forceful push backward.
“What a load of bullshit! We know what kind of woman the Tianquan is. She’ll take it for herself and just add to the wealth she already has! She doesn’t give a shit about the people! It’s why I moved to Inazuma for a time.”
Now Beidou was getting mad. She and Ningguang had their differences, yes. But she, unlike anyone else, got to see a different side of her - in more ways than one - when they were behind closed doors.
“You better shut your fucking mouth before I do it for you,” she warned, taking another swing. “If you’re so dissatisfied, why are you back in Liyue, huh?”
The treasure hoarder jumped out of her range just in the nick of time.
“You really don’t remember me? Wow. You’re just like the Tianquan, aren’t you?”
Beidou lowered her weapon. “Excuse me?”
“Back in Inazuma, I fought for the shogun. You were there with the resistance, weren’t ya?”
She froze in horror. Her eyes narrowed. Beidou was now shaking with rage.
“You.” There was no doubt her crew’s participation in that battle was vital, but knowing that didn’t make the losses from that day hurt any less.
Now that she was looking directly into this man’s face, she recognized him. He had taken the life of one of the newer members of the Crux and it had pained her immensely. Someone so young, so promising…gone in his first battle.
“You fucking bastard!” With renewed strength, she struck his sword so hard it flew from his hands. Tossing her own weapon into the dirt, she nailed him across the face with her fist and tackled him to the ground.
“Beidou!” Ningguang had just exited The Chasm’s opening with Yanfei and was now rushing to stop her. Again, she screamed, “Beidou, STOP! What did I tell you?”
One jab after another after another. Blood marred her knuckles - whether it was his or her own, she could no longer tell. Ningguang’s warning was nothing but a hazy memory, her screeching voice not even registering in the distance.
“Is that…” PUNCH. “…All you’ve…” PUNCH. “…got?” PUNCH. The treasure hoarder jeered at her between hits. He spat in her face and laughed. “You better…end me…now or…that bitch…of a boss of yours…is next…” Blinded by fury, she wound up the strike that would end his existence. The mocking tone of his voice buzzed in her ears.
“BEIDOU, cease this instant!” Suddenly, she felt the familiar warmth of Ningguang’s hand grabbing her wrist.
“I…I…Ning…you don’t understand…” she choked out. Her vision blurred. Rage. Frustration. Guilt. Turning her head to meet Ningguang’s gaze, she collapsed.
The next time she opened her eye, she was looking at the unfamiliar canvas roof of a tent that wasn’t her own.
Where the hell am I?
She had sat up far too fast, her head pounding as if someone was slamming it against the ground.
Fuck.
Breaking into a cold sweat, every scene from the day came rushing back at her. She had been given one simple instruction and completely disregarded it. Surely Ningguang would understand. She had to. Didn’t she know what it was like to lose someone you were responsible for?
A hushed whisper blew through the tent.
“Beidou? Are you awake?” Ningguang’s head peaked through the opening.
“Ning…I’m…I’m so, so sorry. You have to give me a chance to-“
“Silence.” The Tianquan commanded. She didn’t yell. She didn’t even raise her voice. When she was truly furious, Beidou knew she need only utter this single word calmly.
“Tell me: Was I speaking a different language last night? What part of no serious injuries did you not understand?”
“You don’t get it, he-“
“Shut. Up.” Ningguang grabbed her by the chin forcefully. “He wasn’t just injured, Beidou. You beat him within an inch of his life. He’ll probably suffer for the rest of his miserable existence.”
“And he’d deserve it, too!” Beidou tore Ningguang’s hand from her face, gripping her wrist so hard her features contorted in pain. “He killed one of my men, Ningguang! Back in Inazuma!” Moisture gathered in her eyes and she fought to keep her composure. “He deserves much worse than I could ever do to him…”
Ningguang sighed deeply. This made much more sense. Beidou was hot-headed, yes, but never one to blatantly disobey her commands. She had always had a heart too big for her own good. When one of her crew members suffered, it might as well have been her own flesh and blood.
“Ok! Ok,” she shook her hand free and instead moved to stroke Beidou’s cheek. “I understand your anger, Beidou. You clearly have reason to be upset. But I need you to realize something. I cannot have you acting against my authority.”
Beidou was about to fight back, but Ningguang gently pressed a finger to her lips. “I know these circumstances were…unforeseen. But regardless, if I make an exception for one, it sets a precedent. What we have together is everything to me. You know this. But we cannot give others a reason to suspect you’re receiving preferential treatment. Please…understand.”
She leaned forward, her lips taking her finger’s place. Beidou felt her rage melt away. With this one act, she could see clearly. Taking one life for another would solve nothing. Pulling her closer, she let her actions reflect her apology. Her tongue begged entrance and Ningguang acquiesced.
Thankfully the rest of the group had retreated to the entrance of The Chasm, with Yelan’s spies taking guard duty in shifts.
Ningguang pulled back for a moment, her hand now seeking Beidou’s. She tenderly raised it, observing the damage. Layer after layer of bandages covered her knuckles, now swollen to twice their original size. Ningguang placed gentle kisses across the injured area.
“I love you, you know. It pains me to see you injured physically or emotionally,” she chastised.
“I hear orgasms are a great pain reliever,” Beidou muttered half-jokingly.
Ningguang rolled her eyes and let out a laugh. “You may be onto something.” She cocked an eyebrow. “Are you sure you’re up for it?” She kissed her neck and felt Beidou twitch.
“Mmm…you kidding? It’d take a lot more than roughing up that sack of shit to take me out,” she said, her hands wandering to grip Ningguang’s slender hips.
A moan escaped the Tianquan as she felt Beidou’s calloused fingers sink into her flesh.
You’ve got to keep the upper hand here, Ningguang. She’s not getting off this easy for going against your orders.
Gently brushing her hands off her, Ningguang moved to settle behind the injured woman. She didn’t want her to exert herself and exacerbate her injuries.
“Hey, hey! What’re ya doin’?”
“Oh, shush. You need this more than I do. Just relax and let me take care of you,” she whispered as her hands traveled across her chest and underneath her shirt. Her slim fingers, well-versed in pleasuring her, met with Beidou’s already taut nipples.
Beidou let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. “Okay then…who am I to disagree…” she hummed, her head tilting back on Ningguang’s ample breast.
“This doesn’t mean I’m not still upset with you, just so you’re aware,” she said as she gave her a rough pinch. A groan from Beidou made it obvious this didn’t feel like punishment to her. Ningguang moved one hand down to the hem of her pants.
“You’re lucky I’m merciful. If you were just some two-bit mercenary, you’d be sitting in prison right now. I’ll have Yanfei work her magic, of course…” Her hand slipped under her waistband and her fingers dipped into Beidou’s wetness.
“Ning…I already apologized…don’t ruin this…please…” If Ningguang really was perturbed, her fingers must not have gotten the message. Her slow teasing was building to a steady pace.
“Ruin this? Why, I’d never. That’d just be cruel. Do you think I’m cruel, Beidou?” She whispered, her breath heating her ear.
“N-n-no…so great and merciful…ahhh…don’t stop…” Ningguang knew by the pitch of her voice that she was teetering dangerously close to the edge of orgasm.
“Hmmm…I’m so glad you think that,” Ningguang said coldly as she withdrew her fingers from her. Beidou spun her head around at looked at her incredulously.
“What!? What gives! Ning, I was right fuckin’ there!”
Ningguang weaved a hand in the hair at the back of Beidou’s head and forced her to look her in the eyes.
“You will swear to me right here and now you will never do something so stupid again. One murder doesn’t excuse another, Beidou. Trust me when I say you would have regretted that for the rest of your life had I not stopped you.”
Beidou’s face crumpled. She knew Ningguang spoke with great wisdom. She didn’t do what she had just done to spite her - it was to make her pay attention and learn a valuable lesson.
“You’re right,” her head fell forehead first on Ningguang’s shoulder. “You’re right,” she repeated, nearly inaudible. Ningguang kissed her temple. Once more, her hand dipped down to where it had been.
“I know I am. But thank you for admitting it. I think that deserves a reward…” Again, the pad of her thumb circled Beidou’s clit, eliciting chokes of pleasure from her. “It’s ok…let go…”
Beidou pulled her in with a vice grip. The intimacy they shared was a comfort that brought solace to her heart after a long, difficult day of revelations and rule-breaking. Having Ningguang break her free from her own thoughts in this way was enough to help her over the edge.
The two held each other for quite some time before they knew the others would come looking for them.
“Get some rest. We start the trek home tomorrow,” Ningguang informed her as she gave her a chaste kiss goodbye.
The next day was spent hiking back to the city they called home. Once more, they’d have to stop and set up camp just before they hit the base of Mt. Tianheng. Yelan pushed for them to make the trip in one day, but Ningguang had advised against it. She was still worried about Beidou’s injury and didn’t want her overexerting herself. Clearly irritated at the situation (she had always suspected something had been going on between the two), Yelan reluctantly agreed.
Funny enough, Beidou felt great. Ningguang always did have an indescribable calming effect on her, and her words last night had hit her just as hard as the orgasm. She had been foolish to let her emotions get the better of her. Why had she let that scoundrel get under her skin?
Yanfei had come to her tent before bed to quietly comfort her with the knowledge that he would answer for the crimes he had committed both here and in Inazuma. Beidou was able to take solace in this and ruffled the young lawyer’s hair before bidding her goodnight.
Well, that’s a relief. But I still don’t feel like going to bed just yet. Maybe I can see what Ning is up to…
Beidou used her good eye to look out of the crack of the opening of her tent to see if the coast was clear. Ningguang had warned her if someone caught her, it’d be a pain to come up with a cover story. It appeared everyone was worn out from the long day of travel and had decided to head to sleep early.
She made her way over to the Tianquan’s shelter, careful not to step on any stray branches or anything else that would make too much of a racket. Slipping through the fabric that served as doors, Ning glanced up with a worried look on her face.
“What are you doing here!?” She questioned in a harsh whisper. “Beidou, are you crazy?! What if someone comes in to check on me? Go back to your tent and go to sleep!”
Beidou had a devious grin on her face. “Shhh! I felt bad you didn’t get anything in return for last night, so here I am. Dealing with treasure hoarders this weekend gave me a fun little idea. I figured we’d create a new memory to associate with this archons-forsaken hell of a trip.”
Ningguang cocked an eyebrow. “…I’m listening.”
Beidou strode over to her bedside, surveying the tent for materials that would work for what she had in mind. Thankfully Ningguang had everything they’d need on hand.
“Do you trust me?”
Ningguang pondered for a moment. “I suppose, although this incident wasn’t exactly a booster shot for confidence,” she mocked. Beidou rolled her eyes.
“Actually, that attitude of yours only makes me want to do this even more,” Beidou said as she walked over to a corner of the tent. She grabbed a length of extra rope they had brought in case they needed to secure more than they originally had thought, as well as a handkerchief she found hanging out of a backpack.
“I think you’ve done enough chastising for a while. Open,” Beidou said as she took the handkerchief and tied it around Ningguang’s mouth.
“And you won’t be needing these either,” Beidou stated as she brought both of Ningguang’s wrists together and tied them with a secure but safe knot. Testing to make sure neither restraint was too tight, Beidou pulled her to her feet.
“I think there’s a part of you that fantasizes about being at my mercy. Lacking control over your senses and letting someone else take over. You’re lucky those treasure hoarders were a piece of cake to take down. Maybe I’ll be a bit gentler than they would if they had you in this position,” she whispered in her ear. Dragging her to a corner of the tent where some crates sat with extra supplies, Beidou bent her over one.
Unable to speak, the whimper she let slip was enough to confirm this was the truth. Thankfully she wore pajamas that provided easy access to all the right places. Standing behind her, Beidou’s hips pressed Ningguang’s further into the edge of the crate.
“Then again, I think you’ll be even easier to dominate than they were,” she said seductively as she pushed Ningguang’s long hair out of the way, giving her better access to her neck. Her tongue trailed down to her shoulder, and she bit down. The pressure made Ningguang clench her teeth around the makeshift gag.
“Mmmmhmhmmmg!”
“Hey, now. I thought you were the one who wanted to stay quiet,” she chastised. Her hands wandered under the thin silken fabric of Ningguang’s negligee. “This is a pretty little thing…how come you’ve never worn this for me before? Oh, right, I wouldn’t be able to hear your answer anyway.”
Beidou’s fingers were still chilled from the walk across the campground, causing her to shiver. Palming her breast, Ningguang arched back into her. As she kneaded with one hand, her other snuck under the hem of her pajamas.
Ningguang sighed as her body heat began to warm Beidou’s fingers. Sliding her knee between her legs, Beidou coaxed her into a wider stance. Dipping her fingers into her core, Ningguang let out a muffled groan.
“Too bad you can’t use your hands…I’d make you take care of yourself after what you put me through last night,” she said, punctuating her words with thrusts of her fingers.
“Mmm…mmmm…mmm!”
“I’m glad I can’t understand a word you’re saying, because knowing you, it’d probably be some smart-ass remark. It’s kinda fun to see you this helpless.”
Her other hand joined in the teasing, one playing with Ningguang’s clit while the other pumped in and out of her. She could feel the Tianquan’s knees start to wobble and figured she just needed one more push.
“Next time maybe I’ll fuck you like this in front of Yelan. Show her who owns you...”
And that was that. Just as she hit her peak, Beidou yanked her gag free.
“Fuckkkkkk Beidouuuu yessssss!”
They froze as they heard a flurry of footsteps approach the tent. As if on cue, Yelan’s perturbed voice penetrated the tent.
“Will you two give it a rest already?! I thought last night was bad enough, but you both must want the entire nation to know! I’m trying to get some rest, damnit! Shut. The fuck. up!”
Ningguang and Beidou looked at each other and burst into laughter. After such a stressful mission, sometimes all they needed was a reminder that life was so much more than playing by the rules.

✧ AETHER, who spends most of his time traveling through all the nations of Teyvat, often not seeing you for ages, so he collects all sorts of things from every corner of the world and hands them to you whenever he meets up with you again.
⊱⋅WORDS OF AFFIRMATION⋅⊰
✧ DILUC, who isn't really one for showing his love through words, who hides his face in the crook of your neck and mumbles about how he's so happy to have you, face red as he prays you won't comment on it.
✧ THOMA, who will pack you lunch for the day and leave written notes encouraging you for the day, or compliments, or some kind of joke to cheer you up, who occasionally writes really long love letters and gives them to you no matter how embarrassed he is.
✧ ALBEDO, who makes you things through alchemy and hands them over with a blank expression, who will teach you to make potions and enhance items, and collects anything you've made for him.

She comes bearing apology gifts! The cup of herbal tea that was promised and a card that reads as follows:
"Sorry for almost cracking your head open like a walnut! Get well soon - With Love, Yanfei"
Through the coasting ebb and flow of time, much of the recent day would be devoted to his recovery. For the initial torrent of raw agony was a trial his unconscious frame had to work itself through. A pulsing, mind gnawing ache that intends to drill through flesh and permeate through the very soul. To think that Sweet ol' Yanfei had that kind of trick packed underneath her fingertips.
Truth be told? Caelus had a certain, twisted sense of pride with how all of that worked out. It looks like even the realm of Balance finds itself getting influenced now and then!
Such thoughts however failed to be written on his face. For his lips were screwed in distaste, a perpetual glare held steady upon his features, not to mention the glare of the brighter nebulae shifting through the curtains tempted him to squint the entire time. The room found itself empty by the time he awakens, outside the form of a few scattered gifts set by his bedside.
"..Ah. Feels like a damn planet was playing marbles with my head." However, a complaining Caelus is a positive Caelus. Abruptly lifting himself up, a sizzling rush of Path power continues to flow around his head, the remnant fury of the Equilibrium still swimming across his flesh and metaphysical concepts. It was the inevitable fragrance of some tea that conjured him back to reality. And for a fleeting second, part of him wonders if he should be ashamed for being so greedily led back with sustenance alone.
..
....
Nahhhhhhhh.
"Mmm? What's this?" The Trailblazer's hand sought the card first before the drink, allowing the still steaming cup a chance to cool down. Instead he'd let his eyes flick over the brief contents of the note left by a certain Xiezhi. For an instance of time, he pitied himself for being able to miss her likely adorably panicked look. If his scrambled head recovered a little more, part of him wonders exactly what summoned the wrath of Aeons to come for his soul.
In the end however, he'd just plap the card upon his face as he lays back down. A cheeky smile was set upon those delinquent like features while the words replayed time and time again in his mind. This card would certainly be made into a precious item from here on.
"Like they say, it is a battlefield in all that. Heheh. She loves me." A sentiment he feels a similar energy for as well. For Caelus loves Yanfei too.

Unprompted Asks // Always Accepting!
@curiouskinetic:
What's that in the distance? It's hard to tell it looks like-- no, it couldn't be-- it is! It's Sora sprinting towards Yanfei as fast as she possibly can, coming in for the hug of a lifetime!! "YANFEIIIIIIII!!!!"
Hearing her name followed by rapidly approaching footsteps was certainly an alarming welcome back. It took her a moment to even locate the energetic girl, seeming like just a blur in the distance. “Watch the antlers please –!” Yanfei prefaced loudly before adjusting to a more stable position to brace for the incoming hug, arms opened wide. She knew from experience that Sora could pack in one hell of an embrace. The impact of the hug itself still almost sent them both into the ground while gaining some confused looks from onlookers. Yanfei gave her sister a small peck on the forehead before pulling her an arm's length away, carefully fixing a few stray hairs back in place. “I missed you too, Sora. I suppose I have been gone for quite some time… perhaps you can catch me up? ”

I got five achievement namecards tonight! The Liyue one, the Chasm one, the first two Inazuma ones (I already had the third), and the second co-op one.
I got to thoroughly test Yanfei and Hu Tao in the process, and I'm pleased with both, though Hu Tao's health thing still stresses me out so much. I'm going to have to run her with a healer for my own sanity--fortunately, I already have Qiqi built, and Yaoyao will also fit the Liyue Children team once I build her. She's a beast, though. I know myself too well to expect to master the "cancels" thing that the guide I found for her recommends, but she still took out a bunch of named Black Serpent Knights in the Chasm in three charged attacks each, so I'm fine with it. Yanfei, meanwhile, is super satisfying to play--she's just got a good feel to her, and she packs a pretty good punch herself! It'll be fun to try out all the new combos they make available for their team. :>
#it was funny to me to realize that i was running around with 3/5 of my 5-star weapons#hu tao has homa; yanfei has the widsth; and xiangling has the jade#-winged primordial spear#(i don't have any 5-star claymores. sorry xinyan)#there's a lot of reasons they were bodying everything they touched#but I'm sure that's one of them

3.10 Shows Packed
Written part below
You were glad you guys were all in the pit area, because boy, was this place PACKED. You don't think you saw a single empty seat in the stands. The pit area had some seating, with a dance floor in the middle, and luckily not a lot of people were in this area. You even saw the bar, where you made a note not to drink too much tonight, you actually wanted to do well when you eventually sang. You guys arrived around 6:15 and were all currently chatting it up with other people in the area. It was mostly other people who were actually playing in the Battle of the Bands, and a few sponsors, to which you found out that Child had sponsored Kazuha. You watch Childe sneak away for a few moments, coming back 15 minutes later. He came over to you, nodding, a knowing look in his eyes. Kazuha also walked away, having to go make sure everything was set for his and your performance.
You were talking to the 4 lovebirds, asking them if they were excited. You had made note that Scara was standing a lot closer to Lumine than normal and that Xiao’s hands had not come off of Aether. “Yeah, I can't wait to see who all plays during the battle!” Lumine says, excitement evident on her face. You got Scara looking at her happily, chuckling at him. This causes him to notice you looking at him, his face turning sour, asking “What the hell are you looking at?” “Awwwwwwwwww,” you said, “You've grown up soooo much!!! Come here let me give you a big kiss and a hug.” You started walking towards him, his face scowling, but he opened his arms to reciprocate the hug, knowing that you would be an ass until you did it. You rocked him back and forth, hearing the other 3 laugh behind you, before grabbing his face and giving his forehead a sloppy kiss, much like how you gave Xiao a kiss on the night you two had made up.
When you pulled away, a bit of blush on his cheeks had risen, causing you to laugh more. You turned to look at Xiao and said, “don't laugh too much now mister, I gave you a hug and kiss on the night we made up, I'll do it again!” You pointed your finger at him, seeing Aether turn and laugh at him a little bit. Xiao had looked away, hand on his neck, blush on his face, though his other hand hadn't left the small of Aether's back. At this point, the other of your big group had returned, and them all going to the bar to get drinks. Kaeya had a laugh overhearing you say that last bit, asking, “You gave them a hug and a kiss?” “Yuppp,” you reply, hands on your hips, “we're basically family at this point, so I see why not.” Everyone else laughs at your statement, and hears Childe say, “Man, I want a hug and a kiss on the forehead too!!”
You laugh and tell him to “come here”, giving him one as well, causing the group to laugh more at your hysterics. When you pulled away from Childe, you wiggled your eyebrows at Yoimiya, causing her to laugh and get even redder in the face, and you practically pulled her to replace where you were at Childe’s side. As you step back from the two of them, you hear someone ask you, “So are you like the mom friend of the group now?” You turn, looking at Albedo who was the one who asked the question, shrugging, “I guess? I mean it's between me and Yanfei!” You had pointed to her when you said her name, causing more people to laugh.
You all continued talking while waiting for the performance to start, even talking about how you had called Kaeya “zonked out of his mind from sex” on the day he had come into the marketing department right before the beginning of the semester. Kaeya got a good laugh out of that, saying it was actually true. At this point, you hear the announcer come over to the speakers, saying the battle was about to start. You hadn't realized that Kazuha had walked up behind you, lacing his arms around you. It shocked you for a second before you relaxed into his arms. “Are you excited?” He asks, a knowing smile and look on his face. You nodded at him.
About a week and a half after that first night you two stayed together, Kazuha had come to you and asked if you would ever sing in front of people again. You told him you weren't quite sure if you ever would, saying that it would have to be on one of those days when your confidence was through the roof. You had told him that the reason you only sang at Venti’s party was that you had a few in you and were inspired by his singing. He nodded, and you two didn't talk about it for a few days. He eventually asked if you would ever sing with him at the concert, and you were very hesitant at first. You had gone to a few of his shows at Diluc’s bar, and eventually one of the days, you decided to get up on stage and sing with him. You were surprised to find that you had ACTUALLY LIKED singing with him. You on stage with him gave you the confidence boost to sing your heart out. After that night, you said that in the future you would and could sing with him at the concert. You two had practiced a bunch of songs together throughout the weeks leading up to it. Every time you got done singing, he would praise you up and down, like you were some kind of goddess. You would always blush, knowing that he was just praising you to bring your self-esteem up, which worked.
You had also sung once with him while your grandmother was on the phone. In fact, that was how your grandmother met Kazuha! She and you both text each other quite frequently throughout the week, usually having an hour-long call twice a week as well. She was very happy about your relationship, and when she heard you sing for the first time in a long time, she actually cried. She knew you were happier than you ever have been in your life, and she couldn't stop the tears from flowing because of that. You had worked so hard to get where you were today, and she couldn't have been more proud.
The battle of the bands was an absolute blast. You all had fun dancing to the different music that was playing. There was even a country artist that played a few songs, and Yoimiya and Child started showing off their square dancing moves. You were happy at how those two were getting closer. You looked over everyone, laughing to yourself at how lost in their own little were your 4 lovebirds were. Hell! Even Scara was dancing, spinning Lumine around, his hands never leaving hers. You remember how you told her Scara actually knew how to dance, and her falling head over heels at the chance to dance with him. They couldn't take their eyes off each other. Xiao and Aether were both dancing as well, Xiao's hands never leaving Aether's waist. They both had such loving looks in their eyes, much like Lumine and Scara. You didn't think your heart could swell any bigger with joy.
You got a peck on the cheek from Kazuha, causing you to turn back to him, a smile on his face at your joy, the same loving look in his eyes.
You had not left Kazuha's arms at all, loving every minute of it. About 3 songs before the battle was over and the winner would be announced, he, unfortunately, had to break away from you. “I'm sorry my Dove, but I have to get backstage for the first part of my performance.” He said, a sad look in his eyes, though his smile was as big as ever. You nod to him, giving him a loving kiss, before pulling away and saying, “I'll be here till then!!” He nods, making his way through the group to head backstage. As soon as he was out a few, you smiled and chuckled to yourself, knowing what the second half entailed, you being excited to see everyone, including Kazuha's face.
You were ready.
You continued dancing with the 4 lovebirds, laughing with them as the battle was drawn to a close. They announced the winner after a short while, the country music artist being the winner, causing the crowd to cheer and whoop. You guys cheered as well before the announcer came over to the speakers again.
“Well, folks, that was the battle of the bands. We're so glad you all enjoyed the first half. Now without any more delay, we have an artist ready backstage, for our second half. He was last year's winner, and now he is ready to close out the night. It’s Kazuha!” Your group cheered the loudest, ready for his performance. The light turns off, and it was the crowd's cue to quiet down before Kazuha started singing. For many in the crowd, they were here to hear Kazuha singing, as this has been the biggest crowd ever to grace the competition. He had gotten quite popular over the first half of the semester, and you knew it was only a matter of time before someone would come to him to sign him into a studio.
He started out with one of his newer songs, causing the crowd to get riled up (NEFFEX - Go! 🚀). You were singing along to every one of his songs, having memorized the lyrics to every single one. You continued to dance with everybody till it was your cue. Throughout his performance, his eye constantly landed on you, seeing you singing along bringing him so much joy and warmth to his heart. He loved you with everything he had, and his lyrics showed it. He constantly had to tear his eyes away from you, in order to keep his mind on his performance, but you were just too beautiful in his mind.
Eventually, a couple songs before you knew it was your turn to get up there and sing, you told everyone you had to go use the bathroom and that you'll be right back. Childe had also managed to sneak off from the group, and he managed to lead you to Kazuha’s dressing room, where your change of clothes was. You were extremely giddy, ready to knock his and your friends' socks off. As Childe walked away, you hear him call out, “Good Luck Y/n!” You wave back at him before entering the dressing room. You quickly got changed, and you put on the necklace that Kazuha had gotten you. It was the Anemo charm that was originally on his necklace, but he gave it to you as a symbol of his love. The electro symbol, which was a symbol of Tomo, was still on his necklace.
You hear a knock, and as you opened, you saw the event organizer who was going to lead you to your place backstage. As he led you, he was excited, saying how Kazuha practically begged to have you come on stage, and how once he got approval, Kazuha was practically over the moon. He also said that he was able to add one more song to the end, a song you were going to sing by yourself. You nodded, and as you reached backstage you heard him end his final song before you came on. The event organizer gave you a mic, nodded at you, and you nodded back, signaling you were ready.
“Now, normally I would continue on, but tonight I wanted to do something different.” You hear Kazuha say. You smiled, pumping yourself up. “I've got someone who I love with all my heart backstage right now, who's going to help me finish out the night.” You hear your friends screaming after he said that, now realizing what the big secret you two had been planning was. You could only smile and laugh to yourself.
You couldn't have been more ready.
“Please help me welcome to the stage, Y/n!” you hear Kazuha yell into the mic, excitement lacing throughout his voice. You hear the crowd go wild. That was when the first song started playing, and it was your cue to start singing. The second you walked out on stage, everyone's jaws had fallen to the floor in a collective gasp, mostly coming out of your friends and Kazuha, who looked like a deer caught in headlights.
(At this point, NEFFEX x NEONI - Pinky Promise starts playing, and I would recommend you listen along, to better immerse yourself.)
Y/n:
I’m just a cynic
Can you give me a minute
Cause faith is hard to place when you can fake everything you ever thought you could say
Got trust issues
I’ll admit it
Scar tissue to prevent
The pain that waits
When I look away
During this first part you sang, you walked out from backstage, walking towards Kazuha. His eyes were wider than ever, mouth agape. You looked like an angel had just descended from the heavens, and he wondered how he was so lucky to have you.
As you reach him, you look down at your group of friends, eyes focusing on your two best friends and cousins. If you had not met them before, you would've thought that the smiles on their faces were a common occurrence. They were amazed at the fact you were on stage singing. In fact, your two cousins were cheering as loudly as possible, while your two best friends simply looked shocked. After knowing you for so long, they couldn't even understand that you were currently on stage singing. Guess you still had a few tricks up your sleeves.
Turning back to Kazuha, adoration all across his face, before taking his hand and continuing singing. You start swaying with him, a gigantic smile on your face.
Do you pinky promise
You won’t screw me over
Leave me in the cold yeah
I need honest
To my coffin
Do you pinky promise
You won’t screw me over
Tear me up like vultures
I need honest
Tell me do you
Pinky promise
Kazuha:
Look, I’ve been thru some fucking shit
So I’m over it
I’m about to split
If you can’t commit
I don’t wanna see you promise, make your actions fit
I can’t trust that you’ll be honest and I’m passionate
Cuz this dating culture no one takes it serious
We all swiping till our standards are delirious
We all complain that there’s no one out there to attract
But when we look in the mirror, would we date the person looking back?
You entice the same energy your putting out
So if your ready to commit maybe I wouldn’t doubt
Don’t wanna be a pessimist but I’ve been feeling down
Cuz I don’t feel like anybody wants to grow up now
You two were practically singing to each other, and the crowd was loving it. You kept looking down at the main group, smiling at them, and even waving at one point. You got waves back from all of them, and you could see a smile on both Xiao’s and Scara’s faces. They looked proud that you were up there singing your heart out. You turned back to Kazuha as he finished.
Y/n:
Do you pinky promise
You won’t screw me over
Leave me in the cold yeah
I need honest
To my coffin
Do you pinky promise
You won’t screw me over
Tear me up like vultures
I need honest
Tell me do you
Pinky promise
Kazuha:
You get one chance
One opportunity
To make a first impression, so impress me and speak truthfully
I’ll match you energy
If you don’t wanna enemy
Then be friendly
And maybe we can mend some things
Our brain chemistry Is taking us to therapy
Our inequities are filling us with jealousy
So get the fuck off your phone when your next to me
Let’s have a real conversation about all the remedies
Anything but checking DM’s for your next to-be
Cuz all this access is the true fucking enemy
The grass is greener right? That should fix everything
But the issue is our damn insecurities
Y/n:
Do you pinky promise
You won’t screw me over
Leave me in the cold yeah
I need honest
To my coffin
Do you pinky promise
You won’t screw me over
Tear me up like vultures
I need honest
Tell me do you
Pinky promise
Pinky promise
Pinky promise
You ended the song, wrapping your pinky around his, signaling to him that your pinky promised to love him for the rest of your lives. From the look of love on his face, you could tell he was doing the exact same thing.
You guys continued to sing the other songs, dancing with each other, singing to your heart's content. After every song, the crowd went wild cheering. You even saw the two boys who were your best friends, hell, they were your BROTHERS, singing along to a couple of songs, singing to the ones that they were dancing with. It was amazing, and you felt lighter on your feet than you ever had before.
At what was supposed to be the last song, where Kazuha knew at least, he ended up wrapping his arms around your waist, picking you up, and spinning you around. You threw your head back laughing, before looking at him and giving him a big old kiss on the lips. You two broke away quickly before he realized another song had begun playing. He looked at you, eyebrow raised with the biggest shit-eating grin one could ever see. You then started singing again.
This time though, by yourself.
(Davina Michelle - Beat Me is an amazing song and one that I thought would fit for you to end the show with. It's an amazing song, I absolutely love it. I feel like it encompasses the story very well. Especially the next part.)
Livin' in the fast lane
Tryna catch up with my own game
But the world is movin' fast
I know that at the end of day
When the ceiling keeps my night away
I made it home at last, oh-oh
Give me stress
Give me pressure
Make me crash
And I'll come back faster
Beat me till I am first
Beat me and make me work
I'll show you what I am worth
So beat me and make me first, hey!
So beat me till I am first
Ready, set, go!
Shake me, wake me, make me
Pull up even faster, chasin' after
Everythin' that breaks me, aches me
Watch me pass it all
Love it when you shake me, quake me, make me
Pull up even faster, chasin' after
Everythin' that breaks me, aches me
I'm a race it all, hey!
Beat me till I am first
Beat me and make me work
I'll show you what I am worth
So beat me and make me first, oh!
Till I am first
Till I am first
Beat me and make me first, hey!
I know that till the end of time
I will never meet the finish line
But I'll come home at last
This song meant a lot to you. You knew you were singing it to yourself and someone else you had actually seen that was there. It was the guy who you almost drank yourself to death because of. He had made it seem like you were someone special, but turned around and make you feel like you were never enough. He went from talking to you every day to acting like you two didn't have each other numbers. You found strength in what he did to you, turning it into the loving relationship you have now with Kazuha. He may have tried and break you, but you're still standing here at the end of it all. You came out first in the end. You had Kazuha to prove it.
As you ended your song, you got crushed in the most loving hug you have ever received from the platinum-haired man. You could feel a couple tears down your neck. You hugged him back, before separating and nodding your head towards the crowd, you took your hands into his, and you both took your bow together, causing a standing ovation from everyone.
Everyone, except a certain ex-freind.
Eivane Longfellow.

Chapter 11
Our departure from the inn was swift, with all of us packing into Shenhe’s car as usual. Yanfei, brimming with enthusiasm, tried to give directions to the restaurant she had in mind for lunch, claiming it was a brand-new, up-and-coming hotspot that we absolutely needed to try. However, Shenhe growing increasingly annoyed with Yanfei’s convoluted directions, demanded she provide the address instead.
We’d been delayed a little, but eventually, we made it to the restaurant of Yanfei’s choosing. It was, in fact, just as good as she had boasted, and while we were there, the alcohol flowed freely, with Ganyu now joining in on the drinks. After our meal, Ganyu requested that we stop by a bakery she liked for some dessert. Yanfei, ever thoughtful, decided to buy two adorable, personal-sized cakes as part of her gift for the party.
From there, Yanfei worked on the second half of her gift, securing a good deal on a bundle of luxury candles and high-end home fragrances, all beautifully packaged. Seeing that it was getting late, with the sun starting to set, we began making our way to the soiree. The drive was lengthy, taking us to the northeast outskirts of the city. Now we’re arriving at nine p.m., just in time.
While Shenhe carefully navigates the crowded parking lot, I watch through the dark-tinted windows as people in luxurious outfits exit their cars, engage in conversations, or make their way into the venue. The search for parking is taking longer than expected, and unfortunately, the spot we find is one of the furthest from the entrance.
“Ah, finally! It was getting so cramped in here—w-woah!” Yanfei exclaims, bursting out of the car right after me. Her movements are too quick for her current state, and she loses her balance. Reacting quickly, despite my own intoxication, I manage to grab her arm just before she teeters over.
“Y-Yanfei!” I stutter, struggling to hold her as she regains her balance. “Are you alright?”
With an apologetic smile, she assures me, “Sorry… I’m fine! I’ll try to be more careful.” Then, letting out a drunken giggle, she takes my hand. “There, now we can look out for each other!”
I can’t help but to respond with a touch of sarcasm, “Yeah, that makes a lot of sense…”
“Oh!” Yanfei turns to point into the car, “I almost forgot—can you grab that bag for me?”
“Sure.” I move to retrieve the bag of gifts resting on the empty passenger seat. With a thud, the car door slams shut, and the confirming beep of the locked doors rings through the air. Yanfei and I quickly maneuver around the car, rejoining Shenhe and Ganyu.
As our group navigates through the parking lot, Yanfei keeps a tight grip on my hand. At least she’s sticking close, it makes it easier to keep an eye on her. I never realized how energetic she really is until now, and it’s been worrying me for the past few hours. It’s almost as if each drink she consumes gives her more energy. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get her to settle down once we’re inside.
Approaching the venue, we walk past groups of conversing people under glistening golden outdoor lights, steering around them to reach the front doors. Inside, the venue reveals itself as a spacious hall with striking golden accents, certainly big enough for the crowd.
Straightaway, Shenhe takes control over the situation. With a briefcase in hand, she swiftly finds a staff member to take us to the hosts of the party—or rather, our clients. The four of us are promptly guided through the hall. Along the way, we pass tables covered with plates of food and drinks that catch both mine and Yanfei’s eyes. It’s been so long since we last ate, and with so many drinks in between, I can hardly wait for this deal to be over. I’ll definitely be coming back to these tables later.
We’re guided to a smaller, private room hidden off to the side. The staff knock on the door, then open it, kindly gesturing for us to enter. Shenhe and Ganyu step into the room first, followed by Yanfei and me.
“Oh, good evening. Punctual as usual,” a woman’s voice greets us, though she’s momentarily obscured until the others move further into the room. Shenhe and Ganyu both give their greetings as they go to take their seats on a lavish sofa. I then see the warmly lit lounge area and the two assumed hosts seated on one of the sofas.
One is a woman of fair complexion with exceptionally long, white-beige hair, partially tied into an elegant bun resembling a bow, secured meticulously by a hairpin. She wears a stunning golden dress and gives us a subtle smile as we take our seats. The other woman, seated beside her, wears a lovely burgundy dress that matches well with her darker-colored hair. She gives the group a wide grin as Shenhe places the case onto the center table, clicking it open to display its contents.
Just then, I notice Yanfei’s outstretched hand, gesturing for the bag I still have. Quickly, I hand it over so she can place it on the table alongside the case.
“Good evening, Ningguang, Beidou,” Shenhe starts. “It’s nice to see you again. I hope you’re doing well.”
“Indeed, we’re quite well, and yourselves?”
“Things have been going more smoothly recently, and business is good as usual. We’ve taken on a new member since we last met, as you could probably tell already. This is Y/N, a fellow adeptus. She joined only a few months ago.” I didn’t expect to be put on the spot in this conversation, but as Shenhe gestures in my direction, all heads turn toward me.
“Oh, an adeptus? How very interesting,” Ningguang remarks, raising an eyebrow.
“Um—yes, my name is Y/N. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Likewise. I do hope the inn is to your liking, yes? If there are any issues, don’t hesitate to voice your concerns.”
It takes me a moment to process, but then I understand her meaning. “O-Oh, you’re the owner of the inn?”
Ningguang sighs, though it's more in happiness than frustration. “Wangshu Inn. The name hardly fits the script, wouldn’t you say? I own many properties, the towering inn at the heart of the bustling city being among them, yes. Though I must admit, it sees much favoritism. We’re always looking for ways to improve our guests' visits and our residents’ foreseeable stays.”
“I see. So far, I’ve enjoyed the inn very much and haven’t had any issues. I can’t say I’ve lived or visited anywhere more extravagant; it’s a beautiful property.” I add, noticing her pride in her establishment.
My praise earns a genuine smile from Ningguang. “Thank you; your honest feedback is greatly appreciated. Um, Beidou—” She turns to her companion, but her words abruptly stop when she sees Beidou holding one of the rainbow syringes in her hands. “Hey, what did I tell you?” Ningguang scolds, snatching the immunity serum from the open case. “Take this one first.” “Yeah, yeah—I was just about to take it!” Beidou retorts.
With an eye-roll, Ningguang replies, “I’m sure you were. Now, would you please hand over the check so these ladies can get to enjoying themselves.”
With her free hand, Beidou produces a folded piece of paper from beneath the collar of her dress and hands it to Ningguang, who quickly takes it.
“Thank you, sweetheart,” she comments, examining the paper. “Here you are. As always, all lease fees have been accounted for,” she informs Shenhe, handing her the check.
With a nod, Shenhe accepts it. “Thank you very much.”
“Now go, enjoy yourselves at the soiree, and thank you again for coming. We’ll be out shortly.” Both hosts give us warm smiles, and with that, we leave the private room and rejoin the crowd outside in the hall.
As our group merges back into the sea of people, I hear Yanfei grumble, “Ugh, I’m absolutely starving… Y/N! Let’s go find those tables with the food we saw earlier!”
“Oh, okay.” I nod along. I can’t deny I’m just as hungry, and I agree. But just then, Yanfei grabs my hand again and bolts off in the opposite direction of Shenhe and Ganyu, hardly giving them time to notice. Confusion sets in as Yanfei streamlines us through the crowd, but my dazed mind snaps to attention when I realize Yanfei really shouldn’t be running right now—for her own health as much as to avoid knocking others over. “W-Wait, Yanfei!”
“Huh, come on! We’re almost there. I can already see the tables.” She brushes off my attempts to slow her down. But before I know it, we’re already standing in front of the large assortment of entrees and drinks. Yanfei releases me to grab a plate, while I take a moment to catch my breath.
Exhaling heavily, I join her, grabbing a plate. “How about we don’t run like that again, yeah?”
“Come on, I brought us to the food, didn’t I? Hehe. Oh, here, have a drink,” she says, holding a champagne glass she plucked from the array of drinks.
Narrowing my eyes at her, I say, “I’ll only take it if you promise not to run off like that again.” “Alright, alright, no more running, I swear.”
Taking her word for it, the glass of alcohol transfers into my hand, and we both load our plates with as much food as we can.
—
The night was in full swing when Ningguang and Beidou finally made their entrance, the room quieting momentarily as they took the stage. Ningguang’s voice, smooth and authoritative, echoed through the hall. “Good evening, everyone. Thank you all for coming tonight. It’s an honor to host such a distinguished gathering…”
Her words were met with a round of polite applause, and the crowd's chatter quickly resumed its lively hum. As the evening went on, I found myself trailing behind Yanfei, who was in her element. She bounced from group to group, effortlessly starting conversations with strangers, her charisma drawing them in like moths to a flame. Meanwhile, Shenhe and Ganyu remained out of sight, never emerging from the waves of guests.
I try to keep up, to feign interest in the endless small talk, but as time passes and drinks pile up, my focus drifts. The champagne and wine coursing through my veins dulls my senses. By the sixth or seventh group Yanfei engages with, I’m barely present, my gaze locked on the intricate patterns of the floor tiles. My head spins, the alcohol making me unsteady on my feet even in my motionless stance, when suddenly, an urgent need cuts through my haze.
I have to find a bathroom, and fast. Seizing the opportunity to extricate Yanfei from yet another group of strangers, I blurt out, abruptly cutting into the conversation, “Yanfei, I need to use the bathroom!”
“Oh, right!” she responds quickly, turning to our bemused company. “Sorry, we’ll have to excuse ourselves.” Yanfei begins to say her goodbyes, and I instantly turn on my heels. Scanning the room, I spot a restroom sign on the far wall and I take off in its direction.
“H-Hey! Wait up!” I hear Yanfei’s voice call from behind, but desperation drives me forward.
Bursting through the door, I’m hit by a strong floral scent. Upon first glance, the restroom appears empty. Thank goodness. Hastily, I pick a stall and slam the door shut behind me, collapsing onto the toilet with a soft grunt, muttering a depleted “fuck…”
As I sit, feet dangling above the ground due to my strewn drunken position, the room spins around me, a sense of relief washing over my sore limbs. I’m completely out of it. Here I am, at a glamorous party, but I feel anything but elegant right now. I close my eyes, trying to steady myself, to find a moment of peace as Yanfei now shuffles around outside the stalls. I guess it was fun to pretend for a day, but now I just want to go home.
Suddenly, as I’m lost in my thoughts, a wet splat against my knee startles me. I open my eyes, adjusting my leg to see a black substance blotted across my skin.
My expression sours, and with my disoriented vision, I inspect the stall, only to find it in pristine condition. What the hell… where did it come from, then?
There’s another splat against my knee. This time, my eyes trace the falling substance up to the ceiling, where I spot a dark patch of liquid seeping through the panel above. It drips again, my eyes distinctly following its path, but when my gaze falls to my knee, the stain has vanished.
What the—
Instantly, my focus snaps back up to the ceiling, but there’s nothing there, not even a stain.
Dropping my face into the palms of my hands, I squeeze my eyes shut. “Ah, shit…” “Everything okay in there?” Yanfei’s voice echoes throughout the room.
With a flush, I fling the stall door open. “Yeah, I’m fine,” I reply, moving over to the sinks. “I think I had too much to drink, though…” Yanfei nods, fixing her hair in the mirror. “It’s alright, we’re going to be leaving soon anyway. Shenhe’s probably been looking for us, but I haven’t checked my messages yet. She hates being at these events for so long.”
Finishing up in the bathroom, we start to make our exit, a chill rolling over me as I’m approaching the door. My hand grazes its surface, the weight of my arm then cracking the bathroom door open, allowing me to glance out into the hall where I immediately freeze up. Am I… seeing things right now? My vision blurs, and I try to fight against it, but I’m unable to focus my sight before Yanfei’s voice distracts me.
“Y/N? What’s wrong? What are you looking at?” her tone is hinted with concern, but I’m unable to offer a response. The figure turns around, and a cold dread washes over me. Without thinking, I stumble back, away from the door.
“Y/N, you’re scaring me… what’s going on?” Yanfei confesses, but I’m already set on looking for an escape route, or at least somewhere to hide. The thought of shoving Yanfei into one of the stalls crosses my mind, but before I can react, the bathroom door swings open.
A chuckle resonates off the tiled walls, emitted from the blonde woman now standing in the doorway. She gives us a chillingly familiar smile as she takes a step forward, the door swinging shut behind her. “Well, isn’t this a pleasant surprise?”
Yanfei and I are left speechless, neither of us confident enough to speak up, and an uneasy silence fills the room. Lumine’s eyes flick between us, her smile never faltering. “Something the matter? Come now, there’s no reason to be so tense, we’re all good, old friends here, right?”
Her words feel like a taunt, and my mind races. Why now? Why here? Just when we were about to go home too… if a fight breaks out here there’s no doubt that it’ll end horribly, especially with all these people.
“You don’t have to be so frightened; the two of you look as though you’ve just seen a ghost.” She prods, then suddenly bursts into laughter as if she’d told some hysterical joke, earning uncomfortable glares from both of us. “Although, I think I’m the only one seeing ghosts right now, am I right, Y/N?”
Huh?
“Lumine!” Yanfei shouts unexpectedly, startling me.
Lumine’s expression turns to one of amusement upon hearing Yanfei’s reaction, her gaze sharpening. “Ah, I see…” she says, her focus now locking onto me. “Y/N, I don’t think you should trust these people.”
“Lumine, stop!” Yanfei’s voice holds a desperate edge, but Lumine silences her with a single gesture of her hand. Suddenly, Yanfei stands frozen, struggling to speak but unable to make a sound, as if something’s holding her mouth shut.
“Stop!” I finally speak up, seeing that whatever’s happening to Yanfei is beyond her control. “Please don’t hurt her—”
“Just hear me out.” Lumine continues calmly, a hand positioned out in front of her, presumably keeping Yanfei secured. “There are things that your friends are hiding from you, important things. Things you should know, things… that you deserve to know.”
“I’m sorry, I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” I stammer, trying to find a way out of this conversation. It’s quickly starting to sound like a bunch of nonsense.
“Of course you don’t,” Lumine chuckles. “It’s such ‘confidential’ information, after all. But I know. Yanfei knows, Ganyu, even Xiao. Especially Xiao. He’s probably the one who ordered everyone to keep their mouths shut.”
“Lumine, please… Just tell me what you mean,” I plead.
She pouts her lip. “Well, I’m certainly in no position to lay it all out for you. All I can really do is advise you. A word of advice: demand answers, and seek the truth. The rest is up to you.” Once she finishes speaking, Lumine releases her hold on Yanfei, who gasps for air.
“Now go on, you have an objective to complete,” Lumine adds, stepping aside. Instantly, I grab hold of Yanfei’s hand, and we bolt from the bathroom.
Speeding through the hall, we search desperately for our other two companions.
“Shenhe, Ganyu!” we call out, trying to get their attention as we zoom over.
Hearing our calls, Shenhe looks up from her phone. “There you are. Remind me never to let you out of my sight again—”
“We have to go!” Yanfei interrupts.
“Yeah, you’re right. I wanted to leave hours ago,” Shenhe answers, missing the urgency.
“Ugh, whatever. Come on, let's get out of here!” Yanfei instists, pulling on Shenhe’s arm.
Without much objection, we make a swift escape from the soiree.
—
Stepping off the elevator, I let out a sigh of relief. Home, finally…
Scanning the empty living area, I doubt Xiao is sleeping right now. I drag my feet against the floor, opening the door to the dimly lit lab to find Xiao seated at his computer, absorbed in his work as expected.
“I’m back,” I announce, closing the door behind me.
“I know,” Xiao answers, turning to face me. “How was the event?” “It was nice, very fancy,” I answer, my mind replaying the night as I come to stand by one of the tables.
“I wouldn’t expect anything less of Ningguang.” Xiao’s expression softens, “Are you… alright? You look bothered.”
I hesitate, Lumine's words echoing in my mind before I scatter them. “I’m fine, just tired. Did you find anything in my test results?”
Xiao lightly shakes his head, “Not yet. Everything looks normal so far, but I’ll have more answers by morning,” he assures me.
“Alright then. Thanks, Xiao.” I sigh, exhaustion settling in. “I’m going to get some rest.”
