love <3
aaron hotchner x reader warnings: toxic relationships, physical abuse, emotional abuse, misuse of tramua???, just abuse overall, yandere
“oh fuck you, aaron. you always twist my words.” you turn away, exasperated. you continue to cook the dinner you were making for the three of you. aaron had just changed from his suit to a tshirt and sweatpants, after coming home early.
“oh, so i’m the bad guy now? for wanting you to be safe?” your boyfriend grabs your shoulder, and turns you back to him.
rolling your eyes, “you know that’s not what i meant.” you grit out. aaron sighs.
“i’m not following.” he leans back against the kitchen counter, you see his shoulders tense as he raises a hand to rub his temples.
“all i said was that i wanted to start working again! summer’s over, so jack is back in school, so there is no reason for me to stay at home and do nothing all day!” you throw your hands up in the air, exhausted.
aaron stays silent, arms crossed. he stares at you as you go back to cooking dinner. “my answer is still no.”
bright anger burns through your veins, “no?” your eyes widen, dinner abandoned, you turn back to your boyfriend.
“that is what i said.” aaron turns around to grab a water bottle from the fridge.
“why.” you keep your anger buried, wanting to know why exactly your boyfriend had suddenly started acting like a raging dick.
“because me and jack need you here.” aaron starts to chug his water bottle, ignoring you.
you feel your face heat up and tears well up in your eyes, raging, “aaron, i need to go back to work. i’m not some free babysitter for you, aaron. i took this summer off because you needed some extra help. that’s all. i’m your girlfriend, not your nanny or some maid! i literally cannot keep arguing with you about this.” your anger bubbles over and you feel tears stream down your face. you see aaron turn back to you, his face shows no sympathy.
“so what’re you going to do, huh? break up with me?” aaron scoffs. you don’t say anything, “no. no, no, no.” he starts to shake his head, laughing to himself, “i can’t talk to you when you’re being this overdramatic.” he starts to walk away.
you grab his arm, “I’M NOT BEING OVERDRAMATIC, AARON.” it felt like time slowed down when the pain came. you grab the handle of the fridge to catch yourself, as pain blossomed across your face. the room spun as you catch your breath. your ears ring as you squint and steady yourself.
“-NOT YELL AT ME IN MY OWN HOME. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME.” his face red, fury paints his face.
“what…” you mumble, clutching your face.
“you are jack’s mother. you are mine. you have no right to start yelling at me when all i’m doing is PROTECTING YOU.” you feel his hands grab you by the waist. he picks you up and places you on top of the kitchen counter, your ears won’t stop ringing. your vision clears as you feel something cold on your face. aaron’s face was kind once more, as you feel the ice pack resting against your burning face. you don’t respond. “i won’t let you get hurt. i won’t let what happened with hailey… happen again.” you nod.
“okay, i’m sorry.” you mumble, eyes wide, taking in everything at once.
“sorry for what.” he looks you in the eyes, expectantly.
“i’m sorry for asking to work, f-for wanting to b-break up,” you start to sob, heaving as you start understanding what happened. “i’m s-sorry for y-yelling at you. i’m sorry, i’m sorry, i’m-” aaron grabs you by your waist and pulls you into a hug, you bury your face into his shoulder.
“it’s okay, sweetheart, i know you just got a little confused.” he pulls away and cups your face, you wince. “i know you won’t pull anything like this again. you love me and you love jack, right?” he smiles and you see the man you love once more.
“right.” you sniffle.
a moment passes, “say it. say you love us. say you won’t leave.” you watch his face and see a shadow of the rage from before.
you feel your heart beating faster, “i love you and jack, and i promise, i will never ever leave.”
“good girl.” aaron smiles and pulls you into a kiss, you melt into the warmth of his love. gently pulling away, he rests his forehead against yours, “i won’t ever let you leave.”

Hey I stumbled apon your Yandere criminal minds post where R has a secret lover and I was wondering what if neither of them cave? Like reader and their partner just seem to stay together no matter what. Their lover gets framed for something, r will vist them in jail as often as possible and send them letters. Their lovers killed, they know the team did it and forever hates them for it.
I'll write how the different characters react:
Penelope:
She's going to try to convince you- like the rest of them that it was not the team, they would never, you know this. If all falls- and you have proof, then she had no idea, and is just as distraught as you.
Heart broken when you don't forgive them, resorts to internet stalking and manipulation to keep you close by, or at least safe.
Spencer:
Will add up the facts< you sound crazy right now, try to think rationally, why would they ever, an FBI team, murder your innocent lover. He also had 'no idea' as is beyond distraught, though his façade breaks and he kinda tells on himself. How your lover wasn't worthy of you, or that they were a bad person. Not angry, but the "And it's DR," scene with Reid. Ya know?
He, unfortunately for you, is a literal genius and will find some way to keep an eye on you, Help from Penelope or straight up kidnaping you. We live for unhinged Dr. Reid.
Hotch:
Ha. That's ridiculous, and these kinds of accusations can get you in a lot of trouble, but personally, he will look into it. When you either have proof or refuse to forgive him, he will become panicked and drag you closer to him in work, or even kidnapping you too. He could get away with that, I assure you he could. But- He'd like to avoid that first- for Jack of course.
Emily:
Manipulation that quickly leads to no where and you're unconscious, would kidnap you. More secretive and not the best yandere. She doesn't react to well. If not the kidnapping may have some dirt on you that you'd want kept to yourself, and her of course.
__________________________________________
Morgan reacts apologetically, and is convinced it was for your own good, along with the team as a whole.
I hope you enjoyed (Sorry if you wanted something else I felt it wasn't too specific.) And I hope you suggest again sometime! :)

Bau x reader , where the reader is in an abusive relationship
Warnings: abusive relationship , blood , slightly yandere bau , gn reader , could be perceived as a poly bau
Summary: you are in an abusive relationship and when you call Hotch crying , they all rush to your side
Tumblr media
The people in this team are smart and their job is literally to be observing
They obviously notice your change of behavior the moment you step out of the elevator the day you had met him/her
The energy you gave of , the way you talked and even your choice of clothes made them assume you had met someone. They totally DIDNT feel jealous at all
But you seemed happy and they had no control over you
Penelope was the one to ask and learn about the charming kind man you just met.
So the was the one who informed the others
She stalked all of his accounts and pulled out his criminal records (that were clean) his financial state and everything about him
Not even two weeks after you entered the building with a new air on you
You were shining in happiness
Everyone could feel It and everyone knew
Morgan definitely did not do an extra harsh box training that evening with Enily
And Spencer obviously did not complain to Hotch about it all day
And hotch certainly didn't almost tear apart a book in frustation
Also Penelope did not cry on JJ s shoulder and neither did the opposite happen
Then , one day exactly one month later you were gloomy
The team almost held an interrogation to find out why
Turns out your boyfriend and you had just had a super intense fight that ended up in yelling
They were quick to offer you to spent the night with one of them
Or they could book a hotel room for you
You declined saying you need to solve this out
This went on for a long of time
The weather became worst day by day and you were the first one on the team to wear a long sleeved shirt
They didn't think much of it
Your mood was drastically changing , your once bubbly and happy personality disappearing
They were all extremely worried but they didn't know what could have caused it
' Do you think it's that boyfriend of theirs?'
Morgan asked once . They all appeared worried at the thought
JJ was sent to ask you about your relationship but you quite convincingly talked in excitement and contempt about it
They were obviously worried sick ,but could do nothing about it , since they had no idea what the problem was
When they were all out together , Hotch received a call by you
You were crying and stuttering your words
' Hotch' you breathed out
' y/n? Where are you?what has happened?'
He asked and all the others gazes fell on him , their faces twisting in confusion
' I -uhhh I am on my apartment. He has left but I'm hurting a lot. Please come help'
You had said. Calling Hotch was a conscious decision since he was definitely a safe person to you and the whole team.
While Morgan could beat someone up easier and Emily was a very violent person when needed , Aaron just had this energy that he gave off.
He could protect you and you knew it
They all hoped In two cars and were to your in no time.
You were lying on the floor sobbing , with blood around you
Spencer was the one to check up on you , covering your wounds
While JJ called the police
Morgan along with Penelope were frozen on the doorway
And Aaron was right by your side pushing your hair out of your face and whispering in your ear
You were badly hurt
The paramedics arrived and Spencer rode the ambulance with you.
Penelope and Aaron followed with their car while the other three remained on your apartment
They decided to clean it up, JJ bringing the chemicals to remove the blood , while Morgan angrily scrubbed the floor
' How could he? '
Whispered Emily enraged
Then they heard keys on the door
' Honey I am so sorry for what happened, but look I brought you flo-'
A man entered the apartment and appeared shocked to find your colleagues there
Morgan had risen up staring at the man with deep hatred in his eyes
Let's say that the man returned to his house with a lot of bruises , a bunch of threats and two days later his computer caught a virus
You were in the hospital, getting better
Penelope was in the chair besides your bed working something on her computer
Once you were woken up and not high, you received a lot of hugs and sweet words
When you could finally return home they all sat you down . You knew this conversation was coming
' We want you to feel comfortable telling us about things that are going wrong in your life '
Hotch had said his voice and characteristics unnaturally soft.
' Why didn't you tell us?'
JJ wondered and you had no acceptable answer
The day ended in a lot of tears and hugs.
You quickly returned to your workplace where you were greeted with a cake that had wobbly written on it ' welcome back'
Thay would always remind you to be careful in the field for at least a month.

Birds of a Feather - PART ONE?
Darkish!Aaron Hotchner x Reader Sorry Lalo and Roman girlies I was on an Criminal Minds binge and I had to...and I also want to write more idkidk
Tumblr media
It's moments he's remembering, from when you joined the team to when Aaron realized there was feelings in him for you. It all comes down to use for the justification of things he's done. He will do.
The person he's become for you. For you. That three letter word is easier on the tongue than the word because. It's less of an excuse that way.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.
WARNING: Mentions of death, violence, things of a graphic nature. Criminal minds stuff. Jealous, possessive Hotchner. Entitled behavior. Toxic behavior and relationships. OC!Hotch sorta cause I don't think he'd turn into this crazy of a person, but reader's just that hot lol. More tags to come maybe cause Hotch is only going to get worse.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.
Aaron never thought that the person that would change him would be the woman who smiled too much. He never thought this change would come harshly - all for you, the one who joined the BAU's team 6 months ago.
The one who currently has the whole team looking for their retainer case, including him.
He's almost silent when his head hits the bottom of the jet table. But Aaron hears your giggle and he's sure he hears Rossi's smile.
"I don't think it's right for you to have the leader of this team on the floor to help you and then for you to laugh at him."
"Oh, lighten up on the kid, Hotch."
Aaron stays under the table, Rossi's not able to catch the stern, even sterner way he looks there at the older man's words.
"And I'm not understanding why you - on how we have let Rossi off the hook when it comes to finding your retainer case."
Aaron's voice stays leveled talking to you, never rising in tone or going low. It's him as he always is, but under the table with you. It's not different.
It's not different. The way the blood in his cheeks come warm, it's not different. And it has to be that way for a multitude of reasons.
"We've silently agreed it's because he's old. Or, that's what I assume. And I assume I'm right."
It's Spencer coming out from the bathroom, his voice dragging out the word 'old' factually, casual. Not unkind, just the way Spencer is - and it makes the team smile and scoff. Or both. Unless you're the team's leader, then Spencer's words only bring a simple, slight curve to the corners of his mouth.
And what was barely there in humor drops at the sight of you smiling at Spencer. Spencer's words. Not at Spencer. It's all innocent.
What it is shouldn't matter anyway.
It drops, Aaron ignores the uneven, heavy feeling around his chest to the point he doesn't know why it's there when he can't anymore.
You smile too much.
"I'm old, and when you're old, you'll take the word as an insult when it is, and you'll use your age as an advantage when it benefits you. I think if my bad knees were going to ever be beneficial, it'd be now."
"I'll take your word for it, Dave."
"I think it's a great show of a leader to do this for one of their members of the team. To put in the work to find something very valuable to me."
"...It's a retainer case."
You smile at Aaron. He doesn't blink, but his eyes are never wide. There's nothing to smile about.
"And it wasn't in the bathroom."
"I don't think it's anywhere on this plane, my love."
Derek sits back in his seat, almost slumped when he does. "I know this seems dorkish, I think Reid being my plane seat partner recently has been affecting me, but I'm in the mood for a board game. Sorry, Reid."
You can see Reid turn to Derek Morgan to J.J across from them, then back to Reid.
"What's so dorkish about board games?"
"Come on, man. When you hear the word board games, do you think of the word cool, do you imagine a cool person who constantly plays board games?"
"I think of them as a way to cheaply and effectively spend time with loved ones and friends while igniting competition and entertainment. My favorite is Clue if we're going for a more simple conversation, but there are many, especially more modern ones that require more strategy, have deeper narratives, or are particularly just beautiful in design. I'd have to see a list."
Derek smiles with teeth at J.J. She leans her head back and smiles without.
"I feel like the point I was trying to make was proven there."
"What point?"
Your smile never lets up. It doesn't make Hotch smile, but it makes him unable to turn away.
With you, he's beginning to have moments where he doesn't understand why he does the things that he does. It goes against everything he's ever learned. But, he's not about to profile himself to see if he can fix that. Not yet, anyway.
Maybe he'll be able to look away, and you'll stop being someone whose smile and eyes and tilt of the head makes him warm and nearly angry. You don't deserve that anger even if you don't know it's there.
"I think going up against Spencer in a boardgame is a losing game. But I kinda want to, now."
"...Let's get up."
You listen to him, taking his hand when he helps you rise on your feet.
"I think I'll take to the corner, do a cognitive interview on myself to see if I can remember where I put the fuc...damn thing."
"I've told you to watch your language."
You have a problem with swearing. You have the skill of making it sound bright, charming. It's unprofessional. Hotch doesn't know or care to see the way his group softens their banter to look at you and him.
"I just did, I feel proud of myself. But sorry."
He doesn't say anything, but he watches your throat bob.
"And it may be a retainer case with my retainer, but not just just, Mr. Hotchner. Mr. Hotchner, Sir. Mr-"
"Don't hurt yourself, kid."
Your smile turns to Rossi, Hotch tilts his head - moves his body into your line of sight a bit more.
You're talking to him right now, it's unprofessional to suddenly shift the conversation, especially when it's one you were having with your boss. An explanation, but you don't have to smile at him the way you do. Aaron will take what he can get.
"But it'll probably be less than a week and a half before my teeth start to shift. That's thousands of dollars down the drain, all those wire tightening appointments poor seven year old me had to go through will have been in vain."
"She's right. No matter how rigorous the medical process is to literally break the gums so your teeth can shift into a more aesthetically pleasing position, it's almost as if your mouth has memory to shift them back-"
"No need for the ortho lesson, Spence." Emily takes a sip of her coffee, it clearing down her throat. "I can say with experience and visual evidence that if you don't wear those little plastic molds of your teeth for the rest of your life, they'll punish you by moving back."
The black-haired agent bares her bottom teeth and its slight crookedness. J.J leans in, Spencer tilts his head.
"It looks nice, still."
"Did you start to wear them after you noticed them shifting?"
Emily takes another sip. "Hell no."
You and Hotch turn away from that conversation as you sit in your corner. Settling. He watches you settle.
"Or I could just get braces again. I don't know how many people would take a twenty-six year old with braces seriously in this field but...we'll see."
The silence settles with you for a bit, no one expects Hotch to say anything. Hotch doesn't expect himself to say anything.
"I've been thinking about getting Jack braces."
They certainly don't expect it's something so personal. Personal for him, suddenly personal. And they - Reid, Morgan, J.J, Prentiss, Rossi, they've seen how the stern, small-eyed stare of Aaron Hotchner gets even more...silently harsh at the sight of you. Garcia would agree if she was here. So for that personal comment to be brought upon you, the charming, all-too-bright newbie? They can't help but stare.
But Rossi, Dave - he's a step ahead, he could question a thing or two about what it could mean.
You look at Aaron. He doesn't look away. He can't. He wants to.
He wants to look away. He doesn't know if he does.
"Oh. Well, tell the little man it's worth it in the end...and that the ortho-guy is lying, you can eat as many chips and nuts as you want."
Aaron doesn't nod, but his eyes are enough. "I'll be sure to tell him."
He turns to go back to seat before he can catch another smile, not yours, anyway.
"What?"
Rossi takes to looking out the window, Aaron looks at...files, he'll focus on the lines and catch-up work. There's nothing to turn away from when you're behind him.
"I think she did really well on this case."
"You'd be right." There's a pause. "Is there anything else?"
"I think that'd be you to decide."
His eyes flicker up to the older man. It's that type of comment, that insinuation that would get anyone else reprimanded, whether or not they're in front of the rest of the team. But David Rossi is David Rossi, there's a reason why he's so bold now, fixing that reason is not anywhere near Hotch's list of priorities. He's too tired now, at least.
And yet, he's always the last to fall asleep on the plane ride home. He turns behind him just to check. In your time here, they've learned you're second to last.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.
Out of the line-up to pick someone new, readily skilled and able to fit in with the BAU, Aaron knew it would be you. From a completely platonic and professional perspective, you were it. You had to be, it's something he can admit. Your name didn't reach him by a resume or interview, but the moment he met you, Aaron knew you would be an asset to the team.
And maybe, from a more personalized perspective, he thought Reid would do well with someone younger with them for the work.
But to be twenty-six, that's three years between now and your graduation with a public college in New York - and in those three years, you did quite a lot. Impressive work for someone so young. Nothing of titles or accreditation, but when his team is called out to find the killer of three women and your profile is at the center of it, it calls into question as to whether or not Aaron should make use of your talents, to let that go unappreciated would've been a mistake. He remembers how the team agreed.
Girl Sherlock. Silly. Silly girl. He doesn't care when anyone is named, killer or hero - but you deserve a better one.
It was a killer with no name in Virginia, so they didn't have to go far for the investigation, but you did. You came in the day they did, papers and files in your hand. A coat too big for you to wear. You look like you couldn't handle the cold, even though he wouldn't agree that it was cold at all that day.
"H-hi. Hello. I never thought I would have the chance to bother the FBI, but I...fuck."
He remembers Morgan's brow rising, his was already raised.
"Sorry, I didn't think this would be nerve-wracki...."
You trailed off when your eyes caught Aaron. A nervous, young woman who obviously wasn't from Virginia. Someone who possibly has a problem with authority, you wouldn't have stuttered and stumbled as much as you did around him if that was the case.
Though, you've built familiarity between the both of you. He's allowed you to. So, if he looks back on it, not someone who has fear of authority, you wouldn't be so open to asking him to get on the floor of a jet if that was the case. You were just nervous the first time.
"I have reason to believe that whoever took the lives of these women in the past week is the Northwind Killer. And the Wyoming Skinner. And the Akron Phantom."
You, this nervous, young woman with scrambles of writings, news clippings. At first, you appeared like an obsessive fan of true crime, someone they would turn away with pity and second-hand embarrassment. But then, the way you spoke, the way you profiled. It was professional, investigative. You knew what you were doing and you've been doing it for a while.
It didn't help that you were beautiful. But he doesn't remember thinking that the first time he met you. Aaron thinks he's only realized it over time, or...now it's personalized - the way you look on his chest, it's no longer just a fact of your face.
It didn't help that the coat looked too big on you.
"You're Girl Sherlock."
Aaron saw the way you cringed at Reid's reveal.
"I never not feel like I'm twelve years old when someone calls me that. I've just turned twenty-six. But yeah, that's me."
Prentiss’s head leaned up, then she nodded with her mouth parted.
“Well, nice to meet you, Girl Sherlock. But considering that makes me feel like I’m twelve, I assume you want to be called your actual name? I’m Emily Prentiss. This is Spencer Reid, don’t be surprised he somehow knows you.”
You smiled before you gave your name.
He doesn’t know what to think of how much he likes your name, he would’ve named Jack that if he was born a girl.
But, maybe Aaron never thought that, maybe he’s making himself into a fool. Aaron wouldn’t know why he’d do that when he doesn’t want anything to do with you outside of a professional matter. Where he can care for you professionally, maybe even to the point where you become close to him on the team, as he is with everyone else.
Not someone to resent when he dreams about you instead of Haley at night. You wouldn’t deserve that, but Aaron Hotchner would hope he’s done some good enough in his life where you could leave him alone in his own head, where there would be a part of him that doesn’t allow this to turn into anything.
But he should know by now, what he’s seen in his line of work - the dangers of what happens when you keep yourself convinced. But this wouldn’t be dangerous, it’d be right. This isn’t an unsub convincing himself that thoughts, fantasies of murder and wrongdoing are justified or something he’s entitled to, this is him convincing himself and rightly so that there’s nothing different about you. There is no bodily or mental reaction when it comes to you. Not then, not now.
Aaron tilted his head at the smile growing brighter. The smile was warranted then. He couldn’t profile just how much you think it’s needed to smile and make others smile then. Aaron was too busy with the fact three women were dead and you were there to turn the case upside down.
That and your four-pointed star earrings. Gold, old. Your neck held no jewelry.
“How do you know her?”
“She’s a private investigator. She’s made a name for herself internet wise, although her work in criminal investigation is just…I think this is one of those moments where I am self-aware enough to stop myself from making a socially-inept mistake. It would be an odd experience for you if a stranger began to delineate your life story and career progression, wouldn’t it?”
“On the nose, Spencer. But thanks for the introduction.”
There was silence between you all until Rossi chimed in, because of course he would. “Well, Girl Sherlock?”
There was no trailing off at the sight of Rossi, no. It was eyes widened. Hotch shared a look with Morgan, then Prentiss.
“You’re David Rossi.”
“You know me?”
“It’s a fan club.”
It’s something he almost whispered, nothing sarcastic or demeaning in voice, but it was a quip at the fact this was happening during a case. A bit humorous, because Aaron can admit it was, but mostly and barely frustrated. You were interesting, he wouldn’t blame the team for their attention shifting onto you.
“And you’re Aaron Hotchner.”
He blinked at that, he rolls his shoulders leaning forward remembering the way you said his name.
“I’ve read a few articles about you.”
Your mouth parted and Aaron knew what would’ve come out.
I’m sorry about your wife.
It wasn’t any question of what articles you read and it wasn’t any question that the team knew what they were too. The most recent ones would be the obvious answer. Haley, George Foyet. SSA Widower Aaron Hotchner, a man who was already closed off trying to break the walls down, for the sake of his team. His friendships - his son.
“Yeah, hi. Again,” And again, you said your name. “I’m twenty-six. I live and work out of San Diego usually. I used to work at a private investigation agency, it was mostly figuring out if someone’s husband or wife was fuc…fooling around on them and I wanted more so I marketed myself…more. It got me more work, robberies with leads that went cold, missing persons - which were usually twenty-somethings running away from their families. But one day, almost three years ago, the mother of a boy who went missing seven years ago paid me money I did not deserve to help her. I tried my best.”
“You found a boy who was missing for nearly a decade in a week, I would say your best is more than subpar.”
The team looked from Reid to you. Aaron couldn’t believe it.
He didn’t want to be cruel, to say it was luck - and he didn’t, which was good. He was proven wrong nearly after.
“Did she choose you for a specific reason?”
J.J crossed her arms. You shook your head. “She was a mother looking for anyone to help her when everyone else turned her away. I was there. After that, I got more cases. More serious cases. I almost went on Alprazolam which is so…not like me, I think? Sorry, but yeah. Murder cases, most of them older and unsolved ones.”
“And most you solved.”
You looked to the floor. “It was usually just things the police overlooked, missteps I could go back over. I don’t want to give myself credit where it’s not due but…yeah, I did nicely for a bit and that got around - got around enough to get some news articles thrown on me and the name Girl Sherlock.”
“It was the New Yorker who honored her with that one. I would agree, there’s a better name somewhere.”
“The New Yorker?”
Emily’s brows curved.
“It’s recent, for the most part. I was building rapport and promotion and it was alright until people were bringing me recent cases. These were family members and loved ones of victims or missing persons who were not waiting for the police to do their jobs, cases rejected by the FBI…sorry.”
“I don’t think there’s any offense taken.”
Morgan took a seat, crossed his arms too. You smiled at him, at Reid, Prentiss - J.J, you went down the line.
All for your mouth and eyes to soften at him when you reach him.
“There were these murders in Montana, which I’m sure Boy Wiki could tell you about.”
Morgan nearly snorted, as well as Rossi. Reid blinked, head pulled back. There was that natural banter you had with them already, good-natured raillery that he accepts now. Aaron accepts it. He doesn’t resent the way you laugh with them. He doesn’t, because that'd make you different.
That would mean he’s becoming worse of a person because of it.
Maybe it’d be easier to accept what’s happening to him if what was happening to him at the sight and sound of you were things that were more conventional. Nothing like what he feels when he takes listening in on Reid or Morgan when he swears he can hear you laughing all the way outside of his office. Nothing like him wanting you to stay behind on every other case because it means you’d have to do your job like the rest of them, putting yourself in danger.
Nothing like him thinking the person he hired only six months ago is incapable of doing this job, because then it means you’re helpless. You’re safe, as small as you are in a winter coat worn in the fall.
It’s all happening too fast, and it needs to stop quickly.
“Two pairs of parents from the same killer, that wasn’t my conclusion. Police knew it had to be the same man. I was investigating and another murder came, then another. They named him the Northwind Killer. This was a year ago. I was on it and then they stopped. Out of nowhere, I was trying to stay on it. Most of the murders I solved weren’t serial. I was lucky to get hired by someone whose daughter was the victim of the Wyoming Skinner.” You turned, Hotch watched the grip on your bag. “I shouldn’t say lucky, but it was in the sense that I knew this man was the same guy who committed the Northwind killings.”
“Each victim had their back skinned. Not post-mortem.”
“He didn’t do that in Montana, but I knew it was him.”
“How so?”
“I came in on the third victim each time, just like now. But I think it’s five. It’s always five victims in the end before he moves off to another state. Almost always, I may have not been FBI or of no legal authority but my presence in Wyoming brought enough attention that I think he was scared. Also…the police were doing their job well enough. He stopped at the fourth and didn’t kill for two months. On the dot, same in Montana. He started up again in Akron, Ohio. All of these are brunette women who end up lying face down, he kills five and moves on to a Northern state within two months. I know the signature is different every time, but I think that’s the point with him. Each state, he gets to try something new. Wyoming was skinning, Akron was decapitation. I just don’t know what it means.”
You put your bag down.
“Nobody called me for the Akron Phantom, I forced my way in. Same with here, but I think there are things with what I found in the other states that could help you here, maybe before they give him another stupid-ass name too.”
“It’s not money you’re looking for? Cause we don’t have it.”
It was the Police Chief you shook your head at. “No, Sir. Honestly? I’m too deep into this now. I know I have no legal jurisdiction or right to this case, I didn’t with Akron. I barely have time when people pay me, but I know I can help. I know this will help the families who’ve put their trust in me.”
Aaron knew to say yes. There was nothing but things to benefit from if he said yes. You were legitimate according to the words of Reid. You sounded genuine. There was no reason to turn you away.
“You’ll give a run-down on what you have for each killer?”
“Yes, Sir. Mr. Hotchner. I can get everything laid out. It’ll take a second, I think I lost my hair clip on my way in. I don’t know how that happened.”
Aaron’s decided not to realize he wouldn’t have turned you away if there was every reason to.

Bau x reader headcanons
Warnings: yandere behavior , mentions of stalking, mentions of obsession, mentions of maybe a death or disappearance
Summary: you were in big trouble , somehow catching the teams attention like that
You joined the team when you had just finished university
When Aaron first saw you , box in hand , fixing your stuff in your new office , he knew
You had a bunch of cute stuff on your office and that's what first caught Penelope's eyes when entering the room
She had of course done an extensive search on you
Instantly and cheerily introduces herself
You greet her obviously matching her tone
The whole team is OBSESSED with protecting you
At like unhealthy levels
Penelope has hacked in all your social media and she is giving the other daily updates on you
Reid has studied all your habits so much that he knows if something is wrong by the way you walk or even turn a page
Aaron is your boss so that gives him easy access in your everyday life and a bit of control over it( that he doesn't overuse too much since he is a professional)
Emily has absolute banger real life stalking skills
Like she'd know all your program by heart and also inform the others of it , so they can check on you
She also let's Morgan know if someone has been annoying you too much or if they were flirting with you
And BOOM , that's how you never see that one attractive neighbor ever again
JJ is just perfect in making you talk
You seem a bit out of it and none of them can figure it out?
They sent her
The whole team is a bit paranoid , since they know how crazy people can get
They don't even realize they are obsessive and even if they did , theyd be ok with it , since it's you
You'd regularly finds things shipped on your door with little notes
Personal life? Never heard of her.
Your media presence is not safe , your diaries are not safe , your real life interactions are not safe
But I mean why would you ever want to hide anything from them right?
They are just acting like that because they want to protect you, you know. So be grateful

Birds of a Feather || PART TWO
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.
TWO: Take It From The Top Darkish!Aaron Hotchner x Reader
Tumblr media
-- PART ONE -- RICHEEDUVIE'S MASTERLIST --
How you got onto the team. When it was over for him, and as tragedies and love stories go, it's always at the beginning. Aaron knew it even then, the way he was thinking about this woman who he just met - the way his head twisted slight attraction into...not so much more. Aaron can always convince himself, for the sake of you and team and his mind, that it's nothing at all.
But this is only the beginning, even then, he knew it was going to get worse as the months went on.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.
5K WORDS
WARNING: Same as Part One. Slow burn? Mentions of death, violence, things of a graphic nature. Criminal minds stuff. pre-Jealous, possessive, and overprotective Hotchner. Entitled behavior. Toxic thought process, not behavior and relationships yet. OC!Hotch sorta cause I don't think he'd turn into this crazy of a person, but reader's just that hot lol. More tags to come maybe cause Hotch is only going to get worse. Maybe reader POV next part?
BCS AND SUCC SUCC GIRLIES I'M SORRY MY MOM IS MAKING ME REWATCH CRIMINAL MINDS AND SHE'S JUST GOTTEN SURGERY, YOU CAN'T BLAME A WOMAN WHO HAS GOTTEN SURGERY...You should be thinking Hotch Daddy any writing motivates me to write about Princesa chugging Lalo's cock down her throat, or a mewling Roman.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.
Six Months Earlier. Following The Day You Met The Team.
As you got around to reading about him, Hotch got around to reading about you in his hotel room, just an hour and a half away from his actual home. It was easier to ignore the way you looked in the station, the bright ray of life that was searing in your smile. It was also too easy to ignore how ridiculous it is to feel that way about a person, a young woman he just met.
But the others saw it too.
It didn’t take an FBI profiler to know that you have a habit of…brightening the world around you. When he didn’t know you all that well, it was a fact. Barely interesting at most. There isn’t a need for, and yes, it’s a juvenile description, but a bubbly person…bubbling when three women are dead and there’s supposed to be two more on the way. But it doesn’t take away from anything, the same way Garcia’s demeanor never takes away the fact that she gets the job done every time.
It didn't take FBI agents to see what you were. Young, bright, and extremely talented when it came to your work. An ebullient woman at her most nervous. You were there helping them and in that, he saw his team become bright themselves under the way you spoke. Even when you curse a bit too much under your breath, the one thing they would learn goes against your wholesomeness, things like that and your general self-deprecation, your inward agitation, they all found it endearing.
Aaron would not. He would not find anything platonically endearing as much as he did not find those sorts of things attractively endearing. But maybe now, it’s those things he takes as reason to see you as a person to protect, to shelter.
In the six months he’s had you on the team, you’ve proven you’re more than capable of protecting yourself, that a bubbly, kind personality doesn’t mean defenselessness. With time passing, Aaron has slowly cared less and less about attempting not to see you as the opposite for his own selfish reasons.
But if they’re there, he doesn’t know what the reasons are. If he can’t, isn’t it more likely for you to be more defenseless and in need of safety than you seem? But it shouldn’t matter, either way. He won’t do anything with it.
Won’t act on anything.
A profile (which is what people call them actually, he's sure) in the New Yorker is objectively impressive. Aaron can't beat around that.
It was bare when it came to the personal aspects of your life, nothing much outside of your self-subsistent career. At the time, it felt disrespectful of a talented, well-meaning and investigative stranger to press thought onto the parts that detailed questions and paragraphs of your familial issues with your previous partner, family in general - bits of it went into questioning on how it affected your career, your desire to help people, even your obvious and innate skill on empathic investigation. Aaron wished he could say there was no reason to ask those questions. With morals? There was every reason not to go there, but in his career, he makes those relations day after day.
No, he did not press on it.
Name, age. A more detailed version of what you gave when you met the team. He did not press thought onto the little personal aspects that were given.
‘In scribblings on blogs and smaller articles, there’s always the implication that the reason why Girl Sherlock is so motivated within her work is that said motivation is a result of her past issues surrounding her family, particularly with her father and ex-boyfriend, Anthony. When pushed on this, the young investigator makes sure to make no comment of substance.’
“There’s nothing there that would help people realize who I am and why I do what I do.”
‘Out of respect, I do not ask further. Out of the need for the truth, more in-depth research done after the actual interview leads to records of her parent’s divorce papers. Family-wise, there is not much information that can be found besides the separation of the mother and father. But, it’s the multiple domestic violence charges against Anthony Bogosian that bring concern. There was no conviction. Though the assumption is that the general audience of her work as well as this profile is an audience not made up of private profilers, it doesn’t take much to assume that if Girl Sherlock was the recipient of abuse, it would explain why she especially takes to cases of a domestic nature.’
The actual day, the first one with you went smoothly. There would not be a chance where the team didn’t make a comment on you the moment you left the room.
“I lost my red-bottom heel at a bar called Charm’s Chamber when I was twenty-six.”
“I’m not that much older, but when I was twent-”
“We know which degree you finished earning while at the BAU when you were her age, Reid.”
Reid went silent after Emily’s needed interruption.
“Three serial killers. Or…what she thought was three at first, doing all that? Bringing this here?” Derek’s leanback was a gesture to the table, the files. “It’s crazy, and were these all cases the FBI rejected?”
Aaron saw the way J.J’s eyes and its blue shift were a flinch in a way. He didn’t blink as he stood to look at the board. “There were cases I thought took priority, I mean…I remember the Wyoming Skinner but we had-I mean…I don’t know how we, I didn’t go back on it-”
“It’s not your fault, don’t dwell on it.”
He could imagine J.J looking at him. “Yeah, J.J. I didn’t mean to call you out. It’s not your fault there’s too many psychos across the states, we’ve seen it. But I don’t know how I haven’t heard of her, a private investigator can have their hits, I know some who were former feds but this? I was reading up on her-”
“Me too.”
“I already knew.”
“It’s crazy, man. It’s a real help anyway. But a big accusation, one killer with three northern state personas - with different signatures. But she explained.”
That you did. Well and nervous. Aaron could see how you took Rossi’s word, but the bite of your lips, the slow-down of your fingers tapping unevenly on the table.
“You can take it slow.”
Rossi’s compassion for his team has always worked better than his spitefulness towards an unsub.
He turned away from the board. Then they were looking at you just outside of the station, on the ground squatting in search of a hairclip.
“She explained.”
He still doesn’t understand how you could’ve been so caught up in looking for it. And Aaron didn’t know the team thought he was going to say more.
“...Hotch?”
He turned away.
They were all just looking at him.
“But Morgan’s right, it is a big accusation. I think we’ll have to find more substantial evidence that can prove it could be the same unsub. I already have Garcia working on similar cases in Ohio and Montana in general, more vague research. We have to start big.”
He turned back, your hair was falling over. He didn’t sigh, but he felt like he should’ve. You were getting your hands dirty.
“Should somebody help her?”
It was Morgan again.
“I’ll go, I’ve been meaning to ask her what she meant when she described her investigative method as ‘interpreting the evidence’.”
Reid went quickly, leaving his messenger bag behind. Aaron turned back to the group, he watched Emily and she shuffled through the files.
“Well, even though I think she meant her method was a glorified version of profiling, it’s all impressive. I mean…this is, I don’t mean to fawn…we’ve had good men and women in stations all over who knew how to do their job and do it more than well but she’s done all of this alone and she does it as if it’s a door-to-door salesman sort of deal.”
Emily put that slight and dragging emphasis on every sixth to seventh word as she leaned over the table.
He remembers thinking then, that maybe he did press a little. Aaron thought that Garcia most definitely could’ve done a better job finding out about your life than that New Yorker journalist could’ve done about you.
“It’s obvious she’s very skilled. But we haven’t seen her out in the field.”
There was silence that he didn’t know meant something, Rossi’s eyes meeting Morgan’s. J.J’s meeting Prentiss’s.
“Out in the field? I don’t think she’s even been out in the field, she’s a talented investigator with what looks to be a budget of seventy dollars, not an official agent in training.”
Aaron pressed his middle finger to the tip of his thumb, eyes unblinking at Rossi leaned back in his chair.
“Are we taking her out for investigational interviews…or to wherever the unsub drops the next victim if he has a chance?”
They were all staring at him. Again. To him.
“If she came out from San Diego to be here and if she’s been allowed on three cases where victims were being skinned, decapitated, brutalized, then there shouldn’t be the assumption she can’t handle what we’ll find here. She’s come here to make a stretched accusation, she’ll make herself useful.
It came out harsher than expected. Not in tone, every word is punctual, calm as Aaron makes them, maybe slightly lower. But the words themselves were nearly demeaning. He didn’t know why. There was nothing about your cheerful, bloomed nature that he came to resent yet. Maybe it was how Hotch himself came to be, a man already cold and colder and closed off due to everything and everything, so a beautiful woman who smiled too much, who managed to get Doctor Spencer Reid on the concrete was someone his brain immediately chose to be more cautious around. Showing any other personality that wasn’t stoic, but not unkind would not be suitable.
Maybe his subconscious was already trying to save himself from the beginning.
“There goes his germophobia.”
“It doesn’t take a lot to get a man doing something he’d never think to do for a woman he thinks is pretty.”
Prentiss scoffed, arms crossed with a stare on Morgan. “He’s known her for twenty minutes.”
“It usually takes less.”
The women of the team shook their heads, a humorous and semi-truth from Rossi that Hotch guessed they agreed with, but Prentiss’s head gestured towards the station’s door. “She’s…bubbly. With the mouth of a sailor.”
His exact description. He followed her stare to the doorway, Reid was there. He couldn’t fault the younger agent on his team for thinking you were pretty. It was amusing as well, to see Reid with his knees digging into the concrete. Good exercise for him, really - and it was even more amusing to see him so readily open…almost in admiration for Girl Sherlock.
When Hotch thinks of this memory, it’s near-guilt. What he felt at the sight of you and you and Spencer was humorous amusement, it didn't feel that way.
There’s less near-guilt when he feels like he should blame you.
“Let’s move before she loses something else.”
Aaron didn’t mean it as a joke, but with the way he saw the team react, it’s like he did - which usually when he does, they always act as if it’s the first time he’s ever made one. But they went, Rossi pulling on Reid’s ear on the way out.
A smile from you to each profiled passing by, a clip now in your hair.
Why couldn’t he look away?
A smile up at him.
“Are you willing to come with us to the dumpsite?”
Eyes widening and the smile up at him. A pretty girl who has nothing to smile about, but it was exciting to you, he guesses. Aaron can’t remember if it was ever exciting to him, the means of the job were always just a duty, even when he was younger.
“Yes, I’d be honored - or…not…it’s dumpsite so not particularly excited that it’s happening, but-”
“You’ll take the car with me and Rossi.”
You nodded. “Yes, sir.”
And like the stereotypical mimicry that exists when you stand in front of someone so open - objectively attractive, he nodded too.
His eyes flickered.
“Hotch…or Hotchner will do. But if you’re used to sir, I can’t stop you.”
That was the first time he talked to you outside of when you met him. It was met with another smile.
“No figure of authority has ever been able to stop me.”
Hotch was sure you meant that to be a joke, and he gave it to you. It was funny. You’re a funny girl. You know how to light the room up even without an intentional joke, which you might find a negative - when your cursing or stumbled ramblings end in someone else’s laughter. But it’s not, it could never be. He’s sorry enough that he doesn’t give in more often, nothing more than a small, sly smile.
Like the one he gave then.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.
Aaron flexed his hand in the hotel bed, it was 2:12am. In a few days, you were found to be right about the killers being a singular monster. One for no particular reason other than a dangerous mix of sadism and psychopathy. A man born in Montana who traveled the northern states for his job, and with each state - five women were to be killed. In all the Northern U.S states. Every single one.
There was difficulty in finding him to be that one unsub because in his words….in his words,
“I wanted to, I could. I did.”
Michael Bakalova. The Akron Phantom, the Wyoming Skinner, the Northwind Killer. When the news broke of his capture, the outlets named him the North American Butcher. Those were names Hotch didn’t want to remember, he was to go against the news cycle and the grain and remember his victims because he knows there’s more outside of what they found. But he thought of Michael Bakalova and what he said when they caught him.
Those women weren’t surrogates, not one was a target of his rage for a reason other than he wanted to, he could. He did. But in the brutality, there wasn’t any rage, no.
Pure satisfaction, bliss. It’s what Aaron couldn’t find even after they caught him. But they found that sort of reaction in the kills with you at the station, team in a circle. Penelope on the screen.
“I see we’re just letting any cutie waltz right into a case, huh?”
“Garcia.”
“Sorry, sorry, Boss! I’m Penelope.”
“What did you find?”
Aaron doesn’t know when he doesn’t have his arms crossed or straight at his sides. But you were there before you went to look for that clip of yours and your eyes would meet his. And Aaron…he’s lucky enough that he feels that it’s absurd that he prides himself in the way he doesn’t bash and turn away like a schoolboy. That pride acknowledges there’s something in his hands and chest when he looks at you, and feels it’s absurd is self-awareness.
You always turn away first. He won’t ever be the first one to look away.
“I like your pink pen edging into view.”
“She has a similar one.”
They looked to him. You looked to him, eyes wide and bright. That’s all you, you can’t force that type of light to shine. Heaven knows he tried with Haley, for her. To let up on his serious nature, it was easier earlier in their relationship, it’s easy with Jack. But you make figurative gleaming seem like there’s nothing to it.
But sometimes, in the dark, Aaron thinks about you and realizes that the light can’t be figurative, that he sees it on your skin and through your clothes. In your smile, it’s why he can’t look away.
“...I didn’t pull that one out.”
The fluffy blue pen that hid in your bag, Aaron could make the deduction that you, already nervous and having presumably little experience with federal agencies and this area of professionalism, that that pen would not be suitable, it would demean you by looks alone. And he doesn’t know why…to put it objectively, called you out.
“It’s peeking out of your bag.”
But Garcia’s presence let you know a pen that’s fluffy is more than okay. And…Aaron wanted that out of his presence too, though he still thinks that’s unnatural. It’s not possible when you’re you in the saw and he’s him in crossed arms.
“Sir…I don’t know how to respond to that, because that has never happened before - so yes, what I’ve found-”
Moth to a flame, bird into the sun. Something he’ll forget he thought about himself to convince himself that there are no feelings. There is nothing different about you.
Michael Bakalova and his names and names made Aaron’s chest break back against his lungs every time he took a breath, it made him feel like he would drown in the sheets - but then he’d flex his hand and unfortunately, a breath would let up when the movement would trigger the memory of helping you over a step.
“Thank you, Sir Hotchner.”
It wasn’t a joke, you brought your voice to a lower tone. You meant to call him that with maturity.
Amusing girl.
Soft hands, kind squeezes so carefully that Aaron can assume that you think you’ll somehow hurt him. That’s not possible. Not just because you’re you, but he’s him…
What could you do that’d hurt him? Nothing, he’s sure. Maybe if he could think of things, he wouldn’t view you as defenseless as he does. But Aaron knows he’s wrong in that too.
They couldn’t have done it without you. Ignoring the unfortunate name Girl Sherlock, you were extremely talented. Are. But then, to see you in your element and in the field. You were natural within the investigative questioning when it came to people relevant to the victims. The questions and insights you had at the dumpsites (Talent and passion didn’t defeat the fact they needed Michael Bakalova to kill another victim while they were on the case to find him, it never does).
You were amazing. And the sun shined down on you well. You take light in well.
“You can take off that coat.”
He didn’t see the way Rossi’s head tilted his way, eyes slightly smaller. A thought growing in smugness. You smiled.
Aaron looked at the grass under his shoe, there was mud on leather. There was dirt on your knees. Why are you getting yourself dirty when you don’t have to? What’s so important about a clip that you brown the softness of your hands? Where did you learn that that was okay? That it was okay to take the help of strangers? Reid, a good, overzealous and well-meaning stranger, but a stranger nonetheless.
He stared right into you, unsmiling. His suggestion was genuine and unhumorous, but you brightened under the sun nonetheless.
“It’s cold. That’s Virginia's fault. Not mine. But thank you. And this, obviously it’s miles - across state lines but I’m telling you, if you look at the dumpsites in Wyoming, Ohio, and Montana. It’s nearly the same. Country-like backroads. They’re all distant from each other, but it’s an area he feels comfortable in. That couldn’t be just chance.”
“But change in signature, that means we need to make up for that assumption with more evidence.”
His head followed yours as you looked around.
“It has breaks in between, there’s no physical evidence to say he’s just picking a method of kill and torture to have fun with it…but it’s not like it’s different with each victim. Five decapitated one state, five skinned in another.”
You were looking towards a tree, and it would’ve only been you to know that that tree made a difference, you were there three states before.
“What is it?”
“..I’ll be back.”
He remembers the way he and Rossi looked at each other while you were off with a confused-looking police officer.
“So this is what Arthur Conan Doyle was going on about.”
“Dave.”
“Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sorry, Sir Hotchner.”
Aaron nearly glared. Rossi and him slowly made their way towards you.
“Think of it, we’re Scotland Yard. Have you talked to her officially? Besides when she greeted us and when you asked her to come with us.”
“What do you think there is to talk to her about? Officially and alone?”
“I don’t know, I think she’s an interesting case. I like her, she’d be a good fit. Reid can give you a detailed recommendation, apparently.”
“It’s a lot, and she’s just a consultant. We’ve had those before, she is…unique. It’s admirable, but it’s a stretched suggestion.”
“You’ve used that word twice today, and I do understand. But I don’t know why you would say it as if you haven’t been observing her like this case is her pre-BAU assessment.”
Aaron stepped over a leaf. “Have you taken to her, David?”
“...Wouldn’t hurt to have another nice newbie agent around. Work on the lectures and lessons through someone who needs it.”
“You mean a fan?”
“Oh, she knows you too. Remember?”
He wouldn’t indulge Rossi with a slight smile and softening on a brow with that one as they met up with you.
“Before I ramble on again, I apologize for the rambling and the murder exposition vomit back at the station. I don’t mean to toot my own horn - or use the word toot but I am proud of my work…but you guys are the agents, I could’ve just thrown you the papers and you would’ve gotten here with me.”
“Nevermind that, kid. We’ve had worse. Speaking of which, if Reid comes at you again with his tangents, don’t be afraid to tell him to stop. Or walk away.”
Aaron remembered Reid’s ramblings, ones that were fascinating, not in topic - but to see Spencer believe you’d be interested in what he had to say, another person around his age with interests he knew…from your online, blogging persona. The team saw you.
“Nightmare on Elm Street was actually inspired by Wes Craven reading the news. Throughout 1981, the Los Angeles Times ran a series of articles about otherwise healthy Laotian refugees who had mysteriously died in their sleep, apparently after experiencing violent nightmares-”
“Reid.”
He saw you.
Of course, he didn’t give you a gun and let you on a chase through streets for a serial killer even though he’s sure Rossi would’ve let you if given the chance.
He didn’t let you anywhere near Michael when it came down to catching him. And that was right, what he said gave him reason to let you on a plane back to San Diego, despite the team’s (Rossi’s knowing eyes, Reid not so obvious obvious platonic gushings over you) want to let you have at the BAU, despite Hotch himself knowing if he give someone a chance, it’d be you. But Hotch tries to forget about what he said, because he didn’t let you go home to San Diego. And he’s finding himself more of a fool every time he convinces himself that it was for the team.
It was for the team.
But the one who brought the case together for the team sat at the police station, waiting patiently to see if the case she worked so hard on for months, through victims and victim’s parents, loved ones.
“It’s over?”
He nodded.
“It’s over.”
And in the fluorescent lights of the station, he saw your smile as he did and has and will a thousand times over. But it wasn't genuine. The cases you worked so hard on, the passion you put in to bring families closure - not out of government duty with a team that’s family, but instead alone…there was no closure for you. You weren’t satisfied.
You were like them at the end of every other case.
“I have to stop through Wyoming. And Ohio. And Montana. I need to tell those families in person, they’ve probably already caught the news but…I think it’ll do good. Or maybe it’s selfishness, because I know I have to.”
His head lowered slightly. “It’s not selfish. Those families came to you, you became attached to their closure. You deserve to let that in with them as much as families do.”
You nodded, but then you disagreed. “Maybe a little less than them?”
Aaron took a pause. You asked like he would change his mind on what he just said.
Amusing. Taunting. Teasing.
Maybe he was thinking your smile was cheekier than it was, because what would it mean that you would do that to him? That you liked him then? No, not you. Not a young, beautiful woman who sees he doesn’t smile or laugh because it’s not the job, it’s not just him and he won’t indulge you. Not when you just met him and you know he’s a widower with a six year old son.
It’s that, or it’s just that you were having your fun. He wouldn’t appreciate that.
Not at all.
He didn't think of his slight smile through then. He couldn’t, you were in front of him - he wasn’t in bed flexing a hand.
“Maybe a little less, then.”
And there was silence between the both of you, but the world around kept itself busy because the team was all over, exhausted. There was still paperwork to do, reporters everywhere. But Hotch can’t remember how it just got to be the two of you.
He pressed his middle finger into his thumb, trying to mimic a heartbeat because it was fatuous, the way his heart sped up.
You’re just a talented woman that would make a great profiler. But he would have to think logically. He did in the moment. Maybe it’s an exaggeration to say he knew from the start that you would be on his team, there were slew of issues to expand on. One, the fact that you weren’t an FBI agent. You (according to your New Yorker profile) had no law enforcement experience to begin with. You didn’t live in Virginia. You were twenty-six. Reid was barely thirty but he had five degrees or so to make up for it. And heart.
You had heart. He could see it, smile or not.
Aaron remembers making the choice to turn his head away from you.
“So…is the BAU hiring?”
It snapped back. So quickly to the point where it caught your smile dropping.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, that was-that was a joke-”
“Let’s get you back to the hotel.”
“...Really, I-”
“It’s alright. Let’s go back.”
And his hand just hovered over your back. It’s not like he’d feel the way your back curved under the coat you wore for the whole case. Hotch didn’t, still doesn’t want to realize that he would’ve let his hand touch, actually touch if it was anyone else - but with you, this woman with her hair behind her ears - the one who waited patiently at the station and watched aimfully as Michael Bakalova passed her and into a cell. It felt like it would’ve been disrespectful.
The thoughts towards you aim differently than everyone else, even then. His touch would make his heart beat quicker and he would think about the one moment where he did touch you. Over and over in his hotel room, then in his own bed.
And it was as if the thoughts would’ve shifted further down if he did touch the small of your back.
But Aaron should’ve, because it didn’t matter anyway. The thoughts shifted down nonetheless, and they do with every passing night and smile. Your smiles have to be natural, effortless - unknowing and naive to what it does to him, which wouldn’t be your fault, his face and stern lines never give way.
But if the smiles aren’t, the giggles, the head tilts, if they are not naive and defenseless and in need of protection and are instead purposeful flirtations, moments where you revel in making him suffer and harden…Aaron will not appreciate it at all. He will not tolerate that sort of behavior. That won’t get past him.
And he wouldn’t put punishing you past him.
“Thank you, Sir.”
Then you smiled at him.
He led you up to your hotel room, a fortunate coincidence that you took the same hotel the tema did, Aaron didn’t have the means or awareness to think those kinds of thoughts.
He was trying to remember when he saw a face he couldn’t stop staring at. Maybe never, but hopefully not never. Maybe Jack. and for the sake of Haley, for the sake that at that moment, you were supposed to be just a woman, hopefully not never.
“Have a nice night.”
“You too, Sir.”
Nice wasn’t what he would describe the night he had before they left for Quantico. You, Aaron, both were lucky they didn’t have to catch the plane. He closed his eyes, opened them - stared into the ceiling with one hand flexing and fingers tapping together, the other hand lying flat on his stomach.
What were you wearing to bed that night?
He thought something along the lines of that before he dug his nails into his palm with the curl of his fists.
What was the point of not touching you if it meant he would think those kinds of things? He tried.
He thought that. Michael Bakalova.
“I wanted to, I could. I did.”
He pressed his hand into his forehead. Aaron needed to think of anything else and quickly.
2:44am.
The team was right, he was right against the surface logic and challenges that would ensue the minute he would put you with the BAU. You would be an asset to this team. You were an amazing consultant. You would be an even better agent. Of course, that would be if you wanted to join in the first place.
That not being the case would only be the case if you were just having fun - flirtations and head tilts. He said he wouldn’t tolerate that. You were to join the team, there was no doubt about it.
He knocked on your door in the morning and dreamt about opening it in silence in the night.

Not A Child And Not My Job
Tumblr media
Yandere BAU x reader
Warning- Delusional BAU, Gaslighting, Yelling, Drugging, allusions to stalking if you squint, forced regression if you squint, couldn’t do much with Penelope cause she doesn’t come to the other places with the team, didn’t add elle
(I tried something new towards the end, the writing gets sloppy to signify the readers thoughts being blurred by the drugs please let me know what you think about that)
It wasn’t supposed to be like this. My job was supposed to be a therapist. I was meant to help keep them sane and calm. To help them through tough times. This isn’t my job.
I feel more like a pet than anything. I feel like all I’ve done is thrown them deeper into this demented mind set. And it’s not like I can do anything about it. No one would believe that it’s weird. The Bau was always filled with ‘outcasts’ as they put it.
Recently I’ve had to put my feelings about it on hold. The team began slipping up on cases. They were rushing through and making mistakes. Penelope said it was because they wanted to get back to me, so I convinced the big bosses to let me go with them on cases.
That's how I ended up here. On the way back to Washington. Sat directly in the lap of Chief Hotchner. No one was directly paying me mind, they were talking about the case, however they still stared.
I didn’t listen to the conversation. My job was a therapist for the agents not to be an agent. I don’t like thinking of people in a negative light.
I kept my eyes on the book Spencer gave me. He was adamant that I read it. Last time I tried to deny a gift from one of them it was from Penelope. The look in all of their eyes when I tried to say I didn’t need an extra laptop was terrifying.
I shouldn’t be so surprised. I’ve read through a few of the files that they’ve worked on. The grisly scenes and horrific events, it’s no wonder they’ve all become twisted in their own ways.
Aarons arm rested loosely around my hip, his hand resting lightly on my thigh. The warmth of his palm should be calming, but it only serves as a reminder that they all have developed an inappropriate dependency on my presence. The thought alone makes me shift uncomfortably.
Dereks the first to respond. “Aww poor baby~ you must be tired, huh? Waking up so early only to get shoved on a plane.”
His voice sounded genuine, but it feels more like I’m being mocked. I’m not a child.
“Why don’t we get you snuggled up on the couch hm?” JJ asked.
I’m not a child.
Frowning, I respond. “I’m fine. Just needed to move a little.”
“But, you're pouting, there's stiffness in your shoulders too, your hold on your book has loosened, and your eyes have bags under them. All of this is most likely caused by your lack of sleep. Statistically speaking 15 to 20 percent of people with insomnia develop a form of depression.” Spencer argued back at me.
Fine, if they want me to keep ignoring the truth I will put it out on the table where they can’t ignore it.
“I’m not depressed, Spencer. I’m uncomfortable, because the whole team treats me like a child.” Derek scoffs when I say this. “You all act like I’m fragile. I found you’ve all developed a dependency on me in the form of my presence.” I feel Aarons grip tighten and I lay the book on the small table. “You want to take care of me even though I don’t need it, because it gives you a sense of purpose outside the BAU.” JJ frowns and shifts where she stands. “I’ve shown you all a kindness that’s not in the form of family or friendship. You’ve all seen and experienced terrible things and as a result you warp what I am into an innocence that in reality isn’t there.”
Jason looks me in the eyes. “Alright, I think that’s enough.”
Ignoring him I continue. “Your minds are using me as a way to cope rather than handling the problems properly. Since you’ve never had someone there to listen and share with rather than each other none of you know how to properly react.” Spencer looks defiantly upset. “I’m not blaming you for not knowing how to respond, but it’s making me feel unsafe and honestly some of it is insulting.”
The plane was quiet after I stop. I try to move off of Aarons lap but he holds me in place.
“Let me go… Please.” I whisper.
His arm doesn’t move. No, his other arm comes and holds me tighter against him. My breath feels more shallow. I should’ve waited. God, this is a twelve hour flight. I feel all of their eyes on me.
I struggle more against him. “Aaron, I said let me go!” I try to pry his arms off but my hands are shaking and he’s stronger than me.
“Look you can’t even get out of his lap, and you think you can take care of yourself?” Derek said with derision.
I freeze in anger and glare at Derek. “That is completely different! I may not be able to fight people off but I can discern when I need to eat and sleep and I can sure as hell sit in a damn chair like a normal person!”
I’m startled by a slamming sound on the table in front of me. Jason looks at me with a disgruntled look. “I think we have all had enough of your tantrum.” He says sternly.
“It’s not a tantrum, it's me trying to show you the damn truth and you acting irrational!” I screamed at him.
I heard a sigh behind my ear, before Aaron said, “I knew it was a bad idea for her to come along, her little mind just  can’t wrap around everything and it’s making her act out.”
Are you kidding me?!
Tears flood my eyes in frustration. “That is not what's happening! God, how more delusional can you all become?!”
Joining in again, JJ comes over to me and wipes the tears away. “Guys, don’t be so rough on her, like Hotch said she’s too little to understand.”
This is so much worse than it should have ever been.
I writhe in Aarons grip. Screaming and moaning out, begging him to let go of me. Through the chaos of my screaming I can hear Jason say something. I continue to try and get away, but I can hear them talking to each other over it.
I feel a hand graze the side of my face. I try to move away but he grabs my face. Making my head stay still I can see Spencer's concentrated face staring at my neck.
My neck hurts. It felt cold too. Spencer's face was also a bit blurry. He was eye level somehow. Was he crouching? When did he start smiling so sweetly at me? Is he saying something? Am I moving?
I try to speak but all that comes from me are whines. I feel like I’m freezing. I’m dizzy.
Where’d Spencee go? Why I was so sad before? Where is I? Why I wanna cry? Where is that cooing coming from?
I’m overwhelmed by a scent like pine and, and, I don’t know. They feel soft. Feels warm. I bury my face in the warm. Is their wearing cotton? Sounds like a pool. Huh?
“You- k- we- you-”
Whas that mean? So tired gotta sleep.

HEHEHHWHEE imagine the bau team hunting down a serial killer not knowing its their OWN PARTNERRRR imma use hotch as an example cuz dilf😫😫😩😩😩
no real warnings tbh just that reader is a serial killer
i think that he would literally never ever guess it was you. this unsub has been taunting the team, they'd get close and then, the MOMENT they think they're getting close... you're gone (kinda). cuz technically you're still around yk. you're going on dates with aaron, taking care of jack during emergencies, etc. but your serial killer hobbies are in hiatus.
aaron would talk about it with you too. he knows he's not supposed to tell you about the case, but sometimes he gets so frustrated with the case and you lend him an ear yk.
you hide it well, but every time he talks to you about the case. you feel giddy knowing how well you've stumped the great bau.
aaron would never suspect you. you're a great partner, a great parent, he loves you. i mean, every night he holds you talking about how much he loves you. you're the sunshine on his rainy day. all of this distracts you, keeps you on haitus for a long time maybe even permenantly. he tells you that he's planning on quitting the bau. that lets you relax, truly putting your hobbies to rest.
"i think i'm going to take the offer..." aaron says, leaning against the counter, watching you cook dinner.
"hmm? which offer?" you look over at him, in his tight shirt and baggy pants.
"to resign." he laughs and pushing his hair back with one hand. "i want to be here... with you and jack. i want to focus on being a father... and a husband." he looks away and you smile at his bashfulness.
"i'm happy with whatever decision you chose to make, aaron. you're stuck with me."
then he proposes, you're elated. every thing is perfect. you have an amazing fiance, an amazing (almost) step-son. the entire bau is there when he proposes. every single thing is perfect... except that aaron isn't quitting. he's staying at the bau with them. he's staying with them. even after he promised you that he'd quit.
"you told me... you told me that you'd quit." you pace around the living room.
"i know. i'm sorry, but the team needs me." aaron looks at you, eyes filled with guilt.
"we need you, aaron! me and jack! we need you." you feel tears roll down your cheeks.
"(y/n)..." he tries to reach out to you and you back away. he stops, hurt.
"i need some air." you leave, kissing jack good-bye.
you were gone for a week, and in that week, two people had died.
"something on your mind, aaron?" rossi put a hand on his shoulder. aaron sat in his office, staring at the picture of the three of you on a picnic.
"i'm not sure... since (y/n)'s been gone, two people have died and... i noticed this last time too." aaron puts his head in his hands.
"what do you mean?" rossi sits down.
"i-i'm not sure. last time too, we had a fight and they left and- and people died." the dots start to connect, but rossi shakes his head.
"aaron, you don't really think-"
"no. no, i'm sure i'm just imagining it."
"i think you should listen to strauss. the stress from scratch, the new unsub, everything..." rossi trails off.
"i know... i know, i'll think about it."
of course, aaron calls your parents and they say you've been with them the entire time. so he lets it go, but it stays on his mind even when you were back. you'd be sleeping in the same bed and he'd look at you and wonder... could you be a killer? but you'd pull him into a kiss and he'd fall for your warmth once more. you knew he had his suspicions, rossi told you himself. he said he was "worried" that you should "convince him to resign. it'll be good for the both of you". and you did just that. you moved up the wedding, you sent out the invitations, you did everything to distract him from his suspicions and work.
when you walk down the aisle, you see all his suspicions melt as tears fall from his eyes. you feel a grin creep up your face, you did it. you had him for yourself.
"i, aaron hotchner, take (y/n) to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part"

You never thought your passion for private investigation and helping the lives of innocents would bring you to the feet of the FBI's behavior analysis unit when trying to find three nation-wide killers who you believe is one and only one. You certainly never thought it would land you job at said behavior analysis unit. An unbelievable career and a tight-knit, eclectic work family that came with it. It's becomes more of a dream the longer the days are.
Unfortunately, your boss and fellow but much older profiler, Agent SSA Aaron Hotchner, is even dreamier.
Your feelings for him grow in guilt and in dark as you believe there's not a chance they can go anywhere, that it'll lead to anything with Hotch - and even so, you think it's best you focus on morals and your job, to focus on not falling in love with your widower, single-father employer, even as Rossi and Garcia catch on.
You're not even sure that he likes you all that much. Coming to know Hotch in your time at the BAU, he is obviously a stoic, serious man to his team - but it always feels like you're catching a stare that's longer than it should be or stern words and looks that you're sure only happen because he thinks you're not capable.
Hotch is good, you couldn't possibly be aware to the way you're mere presence has changed him. Has really changed him.
Not just in thoughts and how perceives a woman he'll love, but what he will be willing to do to keep her.
It'll become anything, and the virtuous guilt that it does will fade as quickly as Aaron's morality.
