Yamakake gohan :Yam topping-rice (cooking)
Yamaimo is one of the few plants that grows naturally in Japan. It can be divided into several types. Wild yam, Japanese yam (Chinese yam), Yamatoimo, etc. Of these, wild yam and Yamatoimo are very sticky, so they are grated raw with a grater, mixed with dashi stock and wasabi, and eaten over rice.
This is the moment when I feel glad that I was born as a Japanese. In addition, if you use yamakake gohan, the yam helps digest starch, so there is an advantage that you can digest the rice even if you don't chew the rice too much. By the way, I used Yamatoimo this time.
山掛けご飯(料理)
日本に自生する数少ない植物に、山芋がある。これは幾つかの種類に分けられる。自然薯、山芋(長芋)、ヤマトイモなど。このうち、自然薯とヤマトイモは粘りが強く、生のままおろし金ですりおろし、だし汁、ワサビなどを混ぜて、ご飯に掛けて食べる。
日本人に生まれて良かったと思う瞬間である。なお、山掛けご飯にすると、山芋がデンプンの消化を助けるので、ご飯をあまり噛まずに食べても消化されるというメリットがある。ちなみに、今回はヤマトイモを使った。

Me: Let me keep record of the list of stuff available to order at Keiwa's fav soba shop, so anyone can use these for their fics...
From right to left: (At least the ones I can read atm)
Kake - Soba noodle dish made by pouring hot dashi-based soba soup over boiled soba noodles with a sliced scallion garnish.
Tanuki - Kake soba with a layer of tenkasu (tempura bits) on top of the noodles and soup (in Osaka, this was called Haikara soba)
Kitsune - Kake soba topped with aburaage, a lightly sweet, deep-fried tofu pocket (in Osaka, this was called Tanuki soba)
Tsukimi - Kake soba noodles topped with raw egg (that'll become poached inside the hot broth)

Okame - soba dish that resembles the okame face — a bamboo shoot is the nose and the two kamaboko (cured surimi) are the eyes; soba with Yuba (dried tofu skin), tamagoyaki, shiitake mushroom, kamaboko, bamboo shoot, seaweed, spinach
Okametoji - Okame soba with egg on top

Chikara udon - Hot udon noodle soup topped with mochi
Yamakake (Tororo) - Kake soba topped with pureed yamaimo (mountain yam). Often served with raw quail eggs
Tempura Soba - Kake soba topped with deep-fried tempura shrimp and vegetables (Originally topped with chopped scallops and shrimp kakiage)
Mori - cold soba served in a bowl with the noodles submerged in the broth (served in small portions)*
Oomori - Mori soba served in normal portions
Zaru - soba served on a bamboo tray with soy dipping sauce on the side
Tenzaru - a dish that combines two classic Japanese favourites: tempura seafood and vegetables, and zaru-style cold soba served on a bamboo dish

山芋|薯蕷[Yamanoimo] Dioscorea japonica
山[Yama] : Mountain
(の[No]) : Of
芋[Imo] : Yam, potato
山芋 is usually read as Yamaimo, but Yamaimo and Yamanoimo are slightly different. If it is read as yamaimo, in most cases, refers to 長芋[Nagaimo](Dioscorea polystachya,) which is a cultivated crop. Yamanoimo is also called 自然薯[Jinenjo] and was originally a wild species. 長[Naga] means long, 自然[Jinen|Shizen] means nature and 薯[-jo|Sho|Imo] means approximately the same as 芋.
Reading 薯蕷 this way is an ateji from a Chinese name.

All our cats are named after Japanese ingredients over the years - Wasabi, Anko, Kinako, Adzuki, Shoga (ginger), Goma (sesame), Shoyu (soy sauce), Kuromame (black bean), Shio (salt), Kosho (pepper), Komugiko (flour) -> later became just Komugi (wheat).
We also had 4 hedgehogs - Poteto (french fry) the mom and three babies we names Yamaimo (mountain potato), Satsumaimo (sweet potato), and Jagaimo (potato).
A turtle named Cliantro, a shrimp named Carrot, and I've stopped naming the fish XD

休日のちゃちゃっとしたおつまみ六景(三日分の料理をあわせたもの)。乾きもの盛りあわせ(生のラディッシュをふくむ)、コールスロー風サラダ、チーズとバジルソースを載せてグリルした山芋(中央の緑のは、育ち切れずに摘まれてしまった庭のレモン)、クリームチーズとアンチョヴィ・ペーストを塗った小松菜ラスクにナッツ類と干し葡萄を添えたもの、山芋のキムチ炒め、サラミとインゲンのバジルソース・パスタ。
