Continuing to try to get the ice bases right with this Hernkyn friend

I was actually shocked by how thin on the ground the 40k side of the Adepticon preview turned out to be. Chaos Space Marines as the next codex isn't really that much of a surprise, but my money had been on Votann since they've had a bunch of stuff queued up for some time.

Turns out they were in the next Kill Team box, along with the return of Genestealer Cult Brood Brothers using the new Cadian Shock Troopers. Not a bad value for its contents, even if it does recycle the original Deathwatch: Overkill cult leaders.

I like that the Hernkyn Yaegirs demonstrate a bit of design continuity with the Pioneer grav-bike. The heavy overcoat look is striking, but I don't feel that it gelled well with the rest of the army even with the same underlying voidsuit detailing - but between these and the Ironhead Squat Prospectors, there's a diverse enough range to really convey the sense of multiple guilds, unions and professional associations allied under a single league.

And who doesn't love a bit more terrain?

A quick Proof of concept pair of Minis.

I got some Votann Yaegirs, and in my mind i wanted them with Dome helmets. They don't quite fit and are slightly off center at best, but i think i like this look. Kind of Starcraft inspired, in a good way. Hopefully once painted i can fill in the gaps and minor issues for a more cohesive look. If you have any thoughts, feel free to share them!

The tenth and FINAL MEMBER of the Killteam. The jump pack warrior, all weird faux naming has been abandoned at this point.

After promising not to kitbash anymore I immediately grabbed some arms from the Hernkyn Yaegirs that.. look I also said I was gonna be good and not buy them until they were in a single box and then bought Terminaton with the advance off and art job leave me alone!!

Paint wise this had me stumped for a little while. There's not a lot of detail to paint in his tertiary colour but I think I managed in the end. There's so many surfaces that would be just one colour but actually I think it worked in my favour because anywhere I painted teal jumps out at you. Oh also thanks to my arm placement you can't see how well I painted the glow off his chest lamp!!

His colour is Teal.

All in all this is a great box of squats. Lots of flavour for something that's essentially a box of regular guys and then a single upgrade sprue. I put that down to how well made the regular Hearthkyn Warriors are sculpted in the first place. You can also build, I think every single option you'd take on the tabletop (I missed one by planning poorly) which unfortunately isn't the case with every killteam box. A "bonus" there. My favourite killteams are full of weird little dudes and they hit those points well with the Dozr and Lugger, as well as the Jump pack Warrior and Gunner having great gear.
