The over-analysis of Orbo (and the little screen time we have of him)

Welcome to my over analysis of Orbo as a character because I love him dearly, I need to see more of him in season 2, and I’m tired of the evil Orbo trope. This is 7 pages long and reached 2k words yikes. UMM. I don't know how to do introduction so lets jut get right to it:

When we are first introduced to Orbo he falls from above and onto a pedestal. If the audience doesn’t already realize it from the symbolism of putting someone up on a pedestal- where he is angled ABOVE Scarab, the symbol thats etched into it which related to the wings on the phone they use to talk to the Boss we see later can explain to them that Orbo is in an authoritative position over Scarab. Even before mentioning it we can assume that Orbos his boss.

But before we get into their interaction let’s take a moment to observe Orbos design. It's a very simple and obvious silhouette- a circle with purple shades on his face. Usually in character designs to accentuate specific traits in a character, artists would choose one body shape over the other to express that to the viewer. So Orbo being a LITERAL circle, with no sharp pointed edges should already communicate to the audience that he’s not inherently evil or malicious. And often, circles are associated with unity, security, and divinity. In other words, he’s friend shaped.

If the artists wanted to paint Orbo to be a villain/ villain-leaning- wouldn’t they try to express that through his design by adding sharper edges? Giving him more striking colors like red, darker purples, or just a darker color palette in general?

Compared to Scarb who’s all sharp angles and consists of many triangles in his design, even being fully BRIGHT red to showcase that he’s dangerous (a walking red flag if you will)- it just doesn’t make sense for Orbo to be painted as a villain or immoral boss when his design doesn’t match up to that in the slightest.

Anyways. Moving onto the interactions that the two have.

Earlier when Scarab is waiting to have a meeting with Orbo I do want to note that he’s seen being agitated and fidgeting to himself. In the next scene the room Orbo brings him to is full of calming and colorful lights. It feels less intimidating and more casual. It almost seems like a place you would be meditating in.

The scene starts with Orbo spinning around Scarab while growing bigger. While he’s doing this he’s listing off the reasons why he was called into a meeting with him in the first place.

“Ignoring our calls, giving yourself missions, pursuing your own monomanias. I tell ya you’re really whiffing that ball lately.”

And yet despite listing off Scarabs transgression he says this all in a lighthearted tone and expression, if anything it’s barely the kind of scold a boss would give to a coworker who keeps going against orders. He still keeps a very lenient attitude that you wouldn’t normally expect a boss to give to a self-serving co worker like Scarab. He says it almost like he’s asking why Scarab is doing all this, giving him the floor to speak on it.

However, Scarab just completely dismisses what Orbo says so he can request for more time. This to which Orbo scoffs in return- being dismissive to Scarabs dismissiveness.

 Hc he gets pumped up easily and likes to push people in the shoulder lightly but really fast when he needs to let out that excitement (t can be like a charging up a special move in his game) and might accidentally leave a bruise 

When he does it to Ralph it tickles 

When he punches Felix he says ow but then hammers his arm and it heals

When he did it to Calhoun for the first time she hit him across the room because she thought he was picking fights and fucking K.Od him with that bitch slap

Then was kind of apologetic after Felix explained and yelled "oh shoot sorry" then Scrap still laying in the floor gives a thumbs up and a strained "I'm ok...it's ok"

 Also if he did the punching thing with Vanelopie she would just pixilate a bit and his punches would almost go through her shoulder kinda I think much like Ralph it would also just tickle 

Ralph:

Before the whole plot of the movie I like to think Ralph liked him but was kind of bitter "he has huge fists and smashes stuff why am "I" the villain?" XD

Ok ok 

So he and Ralph actually get along surprisingly well for you know one being the main character of his game and supposed "heroes" of the game  and the other is well the bad guy. They both like punching stuff and hav a give each other a high five or fist bump while walking by each other so like buddys

Felix:

Like literally one of the doodle sketches was Scrapper leapfrogging over felix to look at a new plugged in game 

So he kinda is an annoying brat towards felix but always makes it in good fun like he's messing around with him with never an intent to hurt his feelings (even when he goes too far and accidentally does)

Vanelopie:

So now we got Vanelopie

There's actually this running joke sorta where scrapper really likes bright colors becus how I imagine his game has a very limited color palette except him for aesthetically pleasing reasons

So he'd actually stay away from brightly colored areas out of comfort before becoming more enthralled in other colors hens his fixation with casualty visiting sugar rush when he's bored 

You may think oh then he must have met Vanellope while visiting 

Well actually no he bye dumb luck he never met her until after the events of the first movie 

So there knowing each other isn't really that strong yet 

But because of him and ralph eventually becoming friends he grew a liking to the spunky little girl calling her shortstack all the time (despite him being a similar height) and or squirt

In response Vanellope calls him oled man

Calhoun:

 Calhoun thinks he's like 12

He is not he's like 30-40 Like lectures him on his fighting form Thinks he's like inexperienced Finds him endearing if a little overbearing Finds his high energy useful in certain situations but exhausting at other times Is unsure...which fighting game he originates from Then bonding through duty or honor or avenging a loved one.

Ok so, since I keep seeing no one talk abt her uh… don’t mind me, I’mma just rant abt Cherri bomb and stuff bc why not >:]

Cherri Bomb imo, should’ve had A LOT more to her design and I mean A LOT

Now although Cherri’s design is not as bad as the others (well her Design is decent ‘ish but just rarely), ever since I first saw her design I always felt underwhelmed by her design especially now.

There isn’t really much to say other than the usual colors blend in problem and such

But imo I find this redesign to be quite lazy because this literally just her design in the Addict Video, and I just wonder, why? Could viv not think of anything creative when redesigning her after the addict video? I ask bc there is literally so many ways viv could’ve made Cherri’s design to look very cool and unique! Like yea, I know this is viv who we’re talking Abt and her creativity can only go oh so far BUT STILL!!!

Like I said there are literally MANY GODDAMN WAYS viv could’ve made her design more unique! Infact, I can literally share some ideas I have / things that would’ve made her design better

1. Literally changing her Outfit.

Like do I even have to explain????? Her outfit is absolutely hideous and imo doesn’t suit her like AT ALL. Her Outfit is literally a bunch of ripped clothes with the most atrocious colors I’ve ever seen. Her outfit would’ve honestly been more cooler if she had Punk attire! It would Honestly fit with her personality really well! Like REALLY REALLY well! And if viv doesn’t know how to design characters with punk attire then there are LITERALLY endless amounts of references of punk outfits that viv could use when she was designing Cherri and these images are not just any references of punk fashion but rather punk fashion that was LITERALLY FROM THE 1980S!!! Y’know, THE ERA SHE DIED IN??

HECK, THIS OLD REDESIGN I DID OF CHERRI (that I plan on updating after I finish making this post with a bunch of other redesigns I’m doing) CAN LITERALLY BE AN EXAMPLE ON HOW PUNK CAN FIT CHERRI’S PERSONALITY REALLY WELL!!

LITERALLY THESE ALT OUTFITS SHE WORE IN HER LONG GONE INSTA ACCOUNT ARE ALSO GREAT EXAMPLES OF THAT TOO!

If viv used one of these outfits as her main one that would’ve been fine too! Like yea I would at first question why viv chose one of these outfits but other than that I wouldn’t be as pissy as I am with what we got bc it fits her character.

2. Make her have doll elements or som idk

Ok. I know what y’all are gonna say.

“Kat. Why do you want Cherri Bomb to be a doll? Velvet’s literally right here.”

Uh huh, I know that but like hear me out on this

I feel like Cherri being a literal doll could honestly work imo! Heck, if Cherri was a doll, the weird anatomy she has can literally go in viv’s favor! Since dolls most of the time don’t really have realistic bodies, like literally look at this thing if ya don’t believe me

But jokes aside, I do genuinely think it would be an awesome idea! I mean there are literally many dolls out there (even dolls from her era too), that viv can use as references if Cherri was gonna be a doll too! Cherri can literally be a punk rebellious version of Barbie for all I care (I mean like cmon are you gonna tell me that wouldn’t be so cool?)

She doesn’t even have to be specifically a doll either if viv didn’t want make her one, she can literally be an action figure too! (Unfortunately I can’t show anymore images bc I’m a the limit for adding photos in one post but hopefully you get idea)

3. GIVE HER A DIFFERENT FUCKING COLOR PALETTE FOR FUCKS SAKES!!11!1!

Blah blah blah Cherri’s palette as mentioned before in this post sucks!

But the thing that bugs me most in her color palette is literally the gradients in Cherri’s hair

Like every time I saw Cherri pop on screen in the hh pilot (and I do apologize if I sound dumb), the gradients on her hair would change ALOT to the point it kinda felt inconsistent…

The only time the gradients in Cherri’s hair felt consistent was in the addict video but that was only bc viv had to LITERALLY SIMPLIZE her hair so the animators wouldn’t have an hard time animating her god damn hair (kinda wished she did the same with the rest of the designs but oh well)

is Farscape the sort of thing that takes a few episodes to find its groove? should i be patient if we're not besties right away?

Ahhhh so Farscape can be a WILDLY interesting study in complete contradictions. I agree with everything Cat Valente says is brilliant about it in this thread and this very long and detailed essay about why you should watch Farscape and yet also I will sit there fast-forwarding great chunks of season one especially because the quality control from episode to episode is so wildly variable. When I say variable, I mean some episodes feel embarrassingly amateur at times, especially after twenty something years of higher budget, vaguely more evolved TV SF. Occasionally it doesn't know what show it's trying to be, or what show it was the previous episode. It has a terrible weakness for bad puns in episode titles. It can be trite. It can feel weirdly childish, for a show that is frequently about aliens fucking. It's really really very silly on occasion and I have a particularly very low tolerance for second hand embarrassment. Farscape can be frequently embarrassing, but the fact I'm still flailing about it after twenty something years despite that is kind of significant.

Because when it's good, it's so incredibly fucking high quality excellent. It's got all the chemistry, all the high stakes heists and the high melodrama sacrifice, all the dealing with grief and trauma and how do you deal with a legacy of repeated genocide and fascism. Everyone is a space criminal on a stolen sentient prison ship. What the fuck even is the greater good. How do you deal with being a parent. Most of the cast are emoting through inch thick layers of foam latex and the other half are wearing fetish gear (OR THEY'RE PUPPETS. OR CGI ORGANIC SENTIENT SPACESHIPS), but they're really fucking good at said emoting and it's still heartbreaking. It's been twenty years and I will still start crying if I so much as hear the season three version of the theme tune (oh god the theme song evolution).

The silly episodes throughout season one are even weirder because it does pretty much find its feet straightaway with the pilot ep - it's snappy and emotional and charming and clever, and yes the tropes are there but the tropes didn't have quite the same level of tired significance back in 1999? I watched that first ep and was cackling over how fucking fantastic it was. It was such a refreshing change in 1999 that it sailed me through any of the occasionally dodgy stuff that followed.

It's also very very... Aussie, which to me covers a lot of the humour and the sheer demented glee of what the creators wanted to run with? The cast has chemistry, in spades, and the characters flirt and fuck (and... one of them is a hot blue zen plant priestess who orgasms in bright light. Obviously.) and everything is just a little bit.. extra. It has an episode where everyone is a loony tunes cartoon. It has an episode inspired by A Clockwork Orange. It has small stabby robots. It's squelchy and makes fart jokes ALL THE TIME (mostly because one of the main puppets is a former emperor who farts helium and okay yep it's pretty funny. The other puppet is wise and kind and troubled and possibly complicit in war crimes. This fucking show I can't even).

...I'm just going to apologise for this essay, and say probably go read the Cat Valente thing because it includes much more key whether you should in fact watch Farscape information such as:

Ya, I think I left enough characters out that my "ranking every 'mostly white + usually a cool color + maybe gold'" post warrants a part 2 (if enough valks of this design genre get released to warrant a part 3 though, I'm just gonna cry). Usual disclaimer that while I'm trying to be objective as possible about this, art is a very subjective medium and I am not immune to bias. Anyways-

S tier (wouldn’t change a thing)-

still not entirely sure if she belongs on this list because the black and white elements are pretty well balanced, but eh- we're here now

Forget just this genre for a sec though- Aponia has one of my favorite designs in the game

It's the skirt, it's entirely the skirt

I'm glad they kept the outfit mostly black and white (other than the bits of jewelry used to keep the outfit cohesive) because I think too much color would've just distracted from the skirt

I also appreciate they made the white fabric different textures. It really helps to separate the veil from everything else

The usage of vines and flowers to break the symmetry of the design is a fun nod to Aponia's failed attempts to control the world around her

A rank (minor changes needed)

I just want that front white shirt piece thing have a "light blue to white" gradient on it to better separate it from her legs

Otherwise, this design is a friend

Nice use of texture, I really like how the sleeves look like fabric dipped in ink where the ink is just gradually creeping up

I also just think it's funny that she's the jade knight, but her color palette is mostly blue, where as Azure Empyrea's color palette is mostly green

The red accents are also nice

I think from a more objective standpoint, this design would be in B or C tier, but it's my list and I like the design, so it's going in A tier

I'm also not sure if there's really enough white to warrant her being here

The bikini top and mini tutu are goofy (I think I'd personally just make the top a turtleneck crop top with a book window cut out, and the tutu into shorts and a fanny pack), but I kinda like them

There's just a lot of nice color variation in this one

D tier (for disappointments)

Getting this disclaimer out of the way: I am aware of the racist elements of this design. I am not SWANA though, so I don't really feel it's my place to go in depth on it (I'd be happy to link or reblog other people's arguments though)

Congratulations to mihoyo for making me sick of the color purple. I literally didn't know that was possible

I know she had a purple Hoody that one Manga, but I really with they went with a blue/green, orange, and gold pallet instead

The dance motife feels kinda out of nowhere? Idk if she has a love of dance in one of the Mangas, but it was never really mentioned in game before now

Also having Rita (the British lady) be the one to teach her a Persian inspired dance was... a choice

I could see a redesign going a couple different ways

One being really committing to the whole "it looks like a regular outfit" think, focusing on the changing roles of valkyries and moving more towards the aesthetics of APHO

Maybe have her story take place in her home country, thus why she could be wearing more traditional clothes (and have a grandma or someone like that teach her the dance)

My other idea would be keep the story the same, but change her design to be more of a throw back to early valks, leaning more into the mech suit idea

OK SO. IVE BEEN SITTING ON THIS ASK FOR WEEKS CUZ I WAS WAITING UNTIL I HAD ACTUALLY SEEN ALL SEVEN BARIAN EMPERORS IN ACTION. and now well im done watching the series SO!! im glad I waited because over the course of the back chunk of zexal ii my opinions on all the emperors got jostled around so much AND I ENDED UP LIKING ALL OF THEM A LOT. so i guess caveat for this list: love all 7 of these guys so much, definitely one of my favorite "factions" of yugioh characters. my fuckign kids

anyway, from 'least' to most favorite

7. Girag: THIS FEELS SO MEAN. SORRY GIRAG like I said i love 'em all but I guess he's the one I like the least, if only because his design is.... unfortunate. And his backstory is......................... unfortunate. They really said "this black character didn't actually do any of his supposed achievements; a literal tanuki did them for him" and called it a day huh HHFDGSDFG Yugioh Not Fantastic Moments but what can ya do. He's still fun. I love his dub voice I genuinely do wonder if it being a bit of a Rocky Balboa impression was a deliberate choice (since he's buddies with Alito Boxer Kiddo Extraordinare).

6. Dumon: AGAIN. A LITTLE MEAN. SORRY DUMON FDHGSG he's grown on me a BUNCH since I started z2 mostly because i lesbianpilled him in my brain but he's gotta be #6 because his Barian form is probably my LEAST favorite of the bunch. I'm not big on his very flat eyes but I do love the idea that they're because He Cant Fucking See. His human form is so fucking funny they really librarypilled this guy so hard. He's low on the list but still dear to me. Definite Zexal Real One.

5. Marin: GOD. RIOMARINMERAG. I LOVE HER. I REALLY DO. her Barian form's color palette is just gorgeous and she has an awesome ice motif and she's a COOL SPORTY JOCK and she LOVES HER BROTHER but my GOD she suffers from Girl in a Yugioh Series SO BAD. THIS POOR GIRL IS FRIDGED FOR LITERALLY OVER HALF THE SHOW!!!! she does 1-3 cool things and They Shred Like Hell but there's just barely enough of her in the show for her to really blossom into one of my top favs :( don't worry sweetheart im coming

4. Mizar: ok so now we're getting into the territory of where I Just Really Like These Guys. I didn't give a SHIT about MizarMizael until the Moon Duel, and then I proceeded to give SO many shits about him. What can I say.... sad kiddo YGO character backstory gets me every time. I love that he pulled an Aporia and face-turned and tried to take on the Big Bad but fumbled so fucking hard he died in one turn. His Barian form is ROUGH, THOUGH. HIS SHADES OF YELLOW ARE TOO FUCKING CLOSE TO EACH OTHER PUT SOME MORE GREEN AND RED IN THERE. Anyway. Been cooking a trans woman Mizar headcanon for a little while now. estrogen and hooves could have saved her.

3. Nasch: I. really like Shark. I'm still sorting out favorites in my mind but Shark is definitely in my Top Five and I like him as Nasch by extension. Definitely one of the coolest Yugioh Rivals by absolute far. His slow growth as Shark from Mean Bully to Guy Who Cares So Much About His Friends just GUTS me!! This is what ygo's all about babeyyy!!! And the sheer amount of AWFUL SHIT that happens to this kid, MY GOD. He loses his sister over and over again and ends up with SO MANY LIVES ON THE LINE it's a fucking wonder he didnt have a turbo emotional breakdown and collapse. Also I love when characters have species identity crisis and claim to throw their humanity away<3 I know that one <333 ALSO his color palette is really good, I wish his pants were dark though.

2. Alito: ALITOOOOOOOO ALITO MY BI ITALIAN REP. he is latino to me. as well. anyway Alito is also one of my Absolute Top Favorite Zexal Characters I fucking love him. I love Tough Guy Who Kids Love. I love his Battlin Boxers. I love his narrative parallels to Nistro (also one of my fav characters). I love both his forms!! His Barian color palette rocks. ALL OF HIS DUELS GO SO DAMN HARD ESPECIALLY THE MYTHIRIAN NUMBER ONE AND HIS 'CONTROLLED BY DON THOUSAN' DUEL. He's just so good!!! His dynamic with Yuma makes my brain spin around. I need to draw him for real so bad. I hope they put him in Duel Links soon I will whoop and cheer and clap.

cmon. gotta be basic here but you know it's VECTOR!!!!!!!!!!! God he might be. My most favorite Zexal character. He is certainly the one making me the Most insane. I feel like a version of me from a different dimension made this character in a lab just to psychologically torment me. soooo, first of all, how i made him (how he came into his half-existence).

i was watching youtube, and i saw this video and it said something like “pinterest oc making challenge — can pinterest make lore?” (( link to it here )) — and i was like, “dude, i gotta do this!!” and so i did.

(the video’s pretty cool, their ramble is so fun i love it)

soooo, under the cut i’ll actually ramble about the guy and what i have of him so far

soo, for the “random setting” i did, it was

2003, in the winter, in a bustling night market (those are the things that i randomly generated—but i also regenerated to get good ones jdjdjdkfjdks) (except for the winter, that i didn’t change)

i went on pinterest and looked for the thingies to make the oc

for the gender, you’re supposed to search “album” or “album cover” in pinterest, and what pops up first, the lead singer of that band, that’s gonna be your oc’s gender

soo… pinterest didn’t give me.. any. good. results. like literally no album covers and nothing good, SO! i pressed shuffle on my apple music library, and i’d use the artist that played first. “OK Go” played first, so the oc is a guy ^^

i found all the pic refs for him, like his hairstyle, his outfit, his shoes, his skin color, his color palette, all that. and accessories.

i put together his own “board”, i think that’s what you call it.

(awesome thing, too: before i watched the pinterest oc video, i was watching something like “rodrick heffley being iconic for (specific amount of time)” and it was absolutely awesome that he came up)

sooo, i planned on using the color palette and the outfit reference, and like, using the colors and coloring over the reference kinda, js to see which colors i liked where.

It's something that's annoying me more and more, this very white feminism about so many identical long-haired girl protgonist who wields sword because they are strong, but god forbid that they're stronger than their broody d4rk love interest.

It's such a simple take on feminism 101 that fails to take into account the richness of lives that people live today, especially regarding gnc people and/or trans people, people of color, disabled people, aroace people... and other minorities that so many authors forget or don't care about.

It kind of breaks my heart that the books that are popular on booktok or bookstagram are fantasy books that are... So normal. So boring. Cishet girl who is not like other girl meets cishet broody boy, quirky banter haha, cishet flirting and sword girlbossing. It's nothing we haven't seen before, it's always the same stories but swap color palettes and names.

To see authors like SJM, whose books are the most basic cookie cutter stuff I've ever read about, being at the peak of their popularity makes me really, really sad when you see that a lot of YA readers either don't care about minority/less known authors, or don't care about older/deceased fantasy authors whose works are deemed "too complicated" (Tolkien being a prime example).

Also, I know I'm mixing up YA and broader fantasy here, but it's because YA spaces are filled with actual adults who have the resources to buy limited edition/exclusive books, merch, whatever, instead of... actual teens who are the actual target audience and can't do that. And if people keep spending money for beautiful editions of boring stories, it's only going to get amplified...

Anyway, I don't know if it's because I'm growing out of YA, but do people really want to read the same stories over and over again? Is it what fantasy lit has become?

Yeah, you've put the way that I feel into words. It's not that I judge what these sjm-esque writers are putting out or that people are enjoying. It's more like there's a sheer obliviousness (which stems from race, class, nationality, etc) among readers (especially white readers from first world countries in my experience). I understand people also like the escapism of these sorts of books (I did when I was 14-15 as well) but it's really grating from a critical perspective. There is literally a formula that ya fantasy and adult fantasy writers are using to produce these "trending on booktok" waterstones table books and it's... not good.

When you look at the kind of work that writers like Fonda Lee, NK Jemsin, or RF Kuang are putting out, who stands a chance when it comes to actual quality at the "sjm table"?

And let me NOT get into the level of classism and rich privilege that permeates through bookstagram and booktok. Again, not judging what people spend money on but it's like... bruh. Wow. Most of the world's readers are living on a different planet from the select "book box squad". I will never understand why a person needs seven copies of a mediocre book but I see it all the time. Whatever. Major shout out to the middle-aged mom of bookstagram - they're the ones who actually make use of library books and ebooks. You're absolutely right that people put out a lot of money on mediocre books that get big publicity.

I feel like I could go on and on when it comes to this because there's definitely a link between the sjm-esque books and then the question of poor writing and the weird behaviors among some readers, but I digress for now.

Mallet Mania AU!

Everything is the exact same, except Sweet has a mallet and an insatiable urge to smash, break, and destroy.

AU: In general, it's all the same. He literally just has a mallet and can't stop breaking stuff. If he doesn't break stuff for a while he enters Mallet Mania, where he's uncontrollable.

Sweet doesn't like entering Mallet Mania because he can't control himself. If he does enter it he usually tries to fight back against the urge, but always fails. (It's not painful, it's just a little scary for him to know he can't stop himself. He sorta blacks out and can't remember everything).

When coming down from Mallet Mania, Sweet has a terrible headache and loud noise really hurts.

To avoid his boss battle all u have to do is get hit enough in the piano tile game for him to feel satisfied that he's ‘smashed’ the enemies enough. (Regular gameplay continues).

Timeline:

Cap’n sees Noelle get kidnapped -> Tells Cakes & Sweet -> Sweet still follows you around, throwing spikes (they eject from the mallet) each time you beat him (little to no-hit) he stomps on the turntable and it gets visibly broken each turn -> Cap’n and Cakes tell you to let him hit you -> Sweet gets mad and when you beat him (right before battle) he slams his mallet on his turntable & it breaks

Cks & Cpn: “Sweet, remember your breathing exercises!”

Sweet: “I- I can't! I need-- I need to SMASH THEM!”

(there's a color change, his outfit changes color to something bright and wild)

-> Battle Start -> Immediately upon entering battle Cap’n and Cakes leave the battle box

Cap’n: “We told you to let him hit you a few times”

Cakes: “We’ll be cheering you guys on!”

-> Battle officially starts

_______ Battle: MalletMania (MM!Sweet) is the only one who fights you. K_K and Cap'n just sit and watch/give you tips on how to tire him out.

K_K: Have you tried dodging? Cap'n: His attacks are on beat! Get with the rhythm!

If MM!Sweet's about to beat you he just trips over the weight of the mallet and stays on the ground for a few seconds until you see little "Z Z Z" coming up.

K_K: Awe~ He fell asleep! Cap'n: Thanks! Now we don't have to go out again today!

If you tire him out before he can beat you he'll say something like, "I can't stop now! I need to... I gotta..." and then he'll just fall over.

______ Attacks: Let’s Dance!-- The music sheet lines spin-off of the mallet and into the battle box. You have to avoid incoming music notes by jumping from line to line (like in Muffet's battle in Undertale) Tantrum!-- Slams the mallet around in a circle on the ground many times. This causes debris to fall into the battle box and must be dodged. A Real Hit!-- The mallet appears in the center of the battle box starts spinning in the middle. The spikes shoot out and follow the SOUL around the box, trying to hit it Bass Drop!-- The mallet grows to be comically large as Sweet goes to smash the battle box. But he loses balance and falls over (if this move could actually be done, it's a one-hit kill) / rare chance of him backward and just getting slingshotted into the wall (battle ends when he does this attack) + regular in-game attacks

Growth

Waaaa anyong haseyo yorobunn, my last post bahas buku Indonesia etc and after that post on Friday, not so much but quite a lot of things happened in my life.

Itu pas nulis itu kan Jumat ya, sebetulnya pengen ngerjain slide hari Jumat itu tuh di Radcam, tapi ga kesampean. Mostly karena mager aja sih ke departemen. Terus Sabtu literally ga ngapa-ngapain sampe dichat sama Iris kalau lagi cinema national day apa ya, jadi semua bioskop tiketnya cuma £3 which is a very good deal karena biasanya nonton weekend bisa sampe £15, atau in my case £11 karena member Curzon. Ujungnya total beli £3.95 sih karena kena booking fee £0.95. Kami nonton Bullettrain di Odeon yang jujur layarnya kecil dan jauh banget kaya lagi nonton kuliah dosen.

Overall tapi menghibur lah ya untuk hiburan seharga £4, at least I paid the sound karena di rumah gabisa dapet sound seheboh itu. The movie is also fun, it’s a bit too tiring karena betul-betul gaada break (there’s always some action going on!), but the color tone and the palette is pretty. Makes me want to go to Japan/Tokyo tbh.

Minggu nggak ngapa-ngapain. Literally di Kasur doang seharian.

Kemarin Senin di rumah doang tapi berujung harus ke city karena laptop tiba-tiba gabisa di-cas. Apparently si chargernya rusak huhu, berujung beli charger baru for £30.

During the whole 2 days on the weekend I started to think about how much growth I’ve had (or not had) during my 2 years in Oxford, karena emang udah 2 tahun kan sejak 19 September 2020, which is when I stepped on this land of Oxfordshire. Kalau dipikir-pikir sesungguhnya I had not much of growth. I am just the same person I was before. Ada sih satu hal: I didn’t expect to be the “outgoing” yes-person I am now (especially when I started to ask people to have lunch with me/ when I said yes to people asking me to have dinner/lunch/hang out together with them). But then I also realized that I enjoy being by myself a lot more(?) here. Oh, one thing that I’m certain of: I grew in terms of mental health awareness. I took that step of registering myself on the uni counseling service. I had that moment of despair, of knowing I can’t do anything more on my own, that I had to ask for help.

In terms of living away from home alone, I did feel like the IFP one was more challenging, so there’s nothing new about that. I’ve lived in a country in which I don’t speak the language before, so at least in this aspect, I kinda win. Oxford is a pretty easy and comfortable place to live in (compared to Rueil-Malmaison).

Am I getting smarter? Or in any way more knowledgeable? Not really… I feel like it’s really difficult to measure this one since I had no way to know for sure. I definitely can say that I know MORE about what I am doing now, but not necessarily being knowledgeable about it. I noticed that I started to have more interest in social sciences and humanities though. I started to care more about politics, equality, diversity, and the economy -- basically the things that are the most oblivious to me at least when I am in Indonesia (because I was in a comfy bubble that I didn’t feel like I had to care about it at all). But here, everything is different. I started to ask questions about how colonialism affected us as humans, how history shaped us, of who I am right now.

Kemarin randomly baca tentang siapa aja alumnus Uni of Ox karena si UK baru ada PM baru kan setelah BJ turun, Liz Truss, yang lahir di Ox dan sekolah di sini juga ambil PPE. Terus I found that Stephen Hawking lulusan Ox juga (dan lahir di Ox juga). Paling shocking (gatau ya kalian shock apa nggak, but I did) si Stephen Hawking ini orang tuanya dua-duanya went to Ox as well. Kalau ga salah Bapaknya did PPE and Ibunya did Med apa ya. But intinya, ga heran Stephen Hawking was a genius karena di-raisenya di lingkungan keluarga yang juga gak kaleng-kaleng.

Now look at us. Well, paling gampang: me. My parents are 1st generation from their families who went to college. Their parents didn’t even go to school! Or maybe they did, but sekolah dasar Belanda aja mungkin (?) – I had to ask my Mom and Dad again about this. My Dad even told me that he had to use those oil-lit lanterns to study at night when he was in elementary school. And Stephen Hawking? I bet he had already had a lightbulb during his school years. But yes, look how FAR I have to run and jump and keep up if I want to be let’s say as successful as Stephen Hawking??? Or probably not me, but my kids. Is it possible? Ofc, dengan Kun Fayakun, nothing is impossible. But will it be easy? Def not.

It is not fair. It always isn’t. But what can I do? I can write a whole book ranting about this so-rotten system that’s been there forever and blame it, but then so what?

That’s why recently I talk (and think) about growth. How can I measure it? How far back should I think about it? It’s so difficult to see and compare yourself with others (which thankfully I rarely do, until recently). Especially when people you compare yourself to come from a REALLY different growing environment, a different world. But it’s always good to compare yourself to your previous one. See your growth. It might be there, it might not be there, it might be small, or big. Doesn’t matter. What’s important is to keep going, to not quit.

As a history teacher, sources and information bias matter a great deal to me and I’m very wary of anything I read. They work together for a project shortly after mmj girlies start gaining traction again maybe after their live in hopeful stage

Living in roughly the same region I have no doubt that mmj was at least aware of pasupare's existence and aya especially has been tracking mmj's social media at least like cmon kiritani haruka and momoi airi and hinomori shizuku in one group together and theyve gone indie like that's a big deal

Minori and aya are huge fans of each others groups this is actually canon they told me so

They are both completely starstruck. Minori cannot believe she gets to work with such a cute and amazing and wonderful idol band and aya is losing her mind because that is THE kiritani haruka and THE hinomori shizuku and THE momoi airi

Airi and chisato pulling the strings as group leaders because the actual group leaders are too busy fangirling and crying over each other

Airi loves idols too so shes also going a lil bit crazy and stupid but she is soooo much better at keeping it together

Even though airi despised how she was reduced to a variety show host as an industry idol, she still enjoys watching variety shows and watches pasupare's show every single week. She absolutely adores them and loves their work on the show.

I have it on good enough reasoning within the Craft Egg/Colorful Palette rhythm game universe that both games canon occur somewhat simultaneously meaning that shizu, airi, aya, chisa, hina and maya are the same grade and so are eve, haru, and mino OR the proseka canon starts the year before BEFORE bandori's meaning that the mmj girlies are all one year ahead

If haruka and chisato are the same age, you KNOW there is some industry-induced fucked up rivalry shit going on. Haruka is a household name and chisato has been in the limelight since she could talk they have definitely met before and never understood why they couldn't be friends

So imagine their surprise when minori and aya become absolute besties and they try to set chisato and haruka up to become friends as well

And it works. Even though chisato is still being gripped by the entertainment industry first-hand, haruka quitting took enough pressure off of the two of them and they can be much more chill now

I would do anything to see a how a conversation between maya and shizuku are you kidding? maya tries to talk about something tech related and shizuku is like "Yes, I, too, know much about technology for example I only broke my phone two times last week trying to turn up the volume" and maya doesn't know where to go from there

A/N: I love this demon so much,,, I wanna touch the horns (and tiddies)(*´﹃｀*)

Mammon loves his brothers. How could he not? They’re his cute, lovable little brothers and then there’s Lucifer, the big brother who he absolutely adores. Who he quite literally followed him into the depths of hell. Of course, he’ll never say it out loud unless he was forced to but he does- the love and admiration for them is and will always be there. 

But even he has his limits. 

They're all so close to you, constantly nuzzling into your side and holding your hand, dragging you away for a cuddle-slash-nap session. It’s insulting to him. More than usual. He’s your first- he gets to have the say on who and how you spend your time with. He’s Mammon. Second most powerful of the brothers and the Avatar of Greed. And here he is, arms empty because Asmo quite literally snatched you out of his arms and carried you off to his room while he ignored the cries of protest from him.

He’s had a long week and all he wanted to do was spend the last day of the weekend with you but he can’t even do that. He just wants you. That’s all he wanted- to take your time and have it for himself.

He can feel his greed take over, his hands curling and pupils dilated with want and take.

His steps are quick and he doesn’t bother to knock when he enters, door bouncing off the wdor stopper and he can hear the hiss of an insult and a threat to tell Lucifer. Azure eyes darken as they glance over you: Asmo is above you, straddling you and his hand cups your face while the other rests next to an opened makeup palette. 

“Ugh! You already had your time with them! Plus I want to doll them up a bit,” the younger brother huffs, champagne colored hair delicately framing his face while he pouts.

His little brother can throw his fit, can beg and fight as if he were a child all over again, but the only thing in Mammon’s mind right now is his greed, the avaricious feeling inside of him that’s threatening to take form as he plops you over his shoulder and stalks his way to your room where he tosses you on the bed.

You yelp first and then giggle, straightening out your hair that was ruffled in the process. “Mammon,” you giggle out his name, sitting up on the bed. You look at him where he has his back turned to you, a hand clamped over his face and the aura around him darkens, magic bursting and bubbling and the hair on your arms stand on end. “Mammon dear, you all right?”

EIICHI OTORI

I have always leaned towards megane characters and Eiichi is no exception. However, it's not often you see idols wearing glasses, and that is something I appreciate about Eiichi's design. His color palette also intrigues me since I love deep shades of blue. His royal blue jacket is very attractive, and the way he pops the collar also makes me go "kya!".  His voice is also very sexy as well and is pleasing to the ear uwu. I love how egoistic he is too. Being incredibly ambitious he has been able to reach amazing heights that surpass other idols. The one thing that seems to make him unique though is that he really gets zealous and overly passionate when it comes to the power of music, so much that it makes him physically tremble. You could get high off that shit literally. His entire being is centered around being an idol, and all the components of him go above and beyond the requirements. It's not just a job for him or something that simply makes an earning or brings satisfaction. It's pretty much everything to him. For that reason he has made it to the top. There is also the component where he's lonely and isolated emotionally that interests me. Despite being a beloved idol, he clearly didn't get the love he needed growing up. Even though he had Eiji I feel as though his nature was more to protect Eiji and shield him from whatever terrors would arise. I admire his ability to come through all of that and pay attention to the things he really cared about. Eiichi can be himself, his strange, sexy self, but also he acknowledges the lonesome darkness within too. I think that component makes him incredibly powerful.

Extra Details:

While appearing to be a bad guy in the anime (at least), Eiichi seemed to be that typical bad boy idol that would steal away Haruka from the main group. The time when he approached Haruka and took her by the chin is a perfect example. How dare this new guy just think he can have his way with our protagonist!  To be honest I liked that aspect about him a bit. While I can't remember my first impression of Eiichi aside from not knowing how to feel about that, he slowly grew on me. He had the appearance of just another selfish idol, demonstrated by swiping the mic away from the announcer at one of his concerts and immediately declaring their foreseen victory. So far that looked rather bland to me, and I was still cheering for STARISH. They really made him out to look like some bad guy who would not play fair and do whatever he could to take the throne (and the girl).  It's not surprising his glasses shine adds to his 'freaky antagonist' vibe that the show seemed to try to give off, but however for me I love the glasses beam, thus having the opposite effect.

And then there is the Next Door episode. Now here's where we got to see more of Eiichi aside from when the HEAVENS Dragon demolished the entire stadium. Aside from kya-ing over the EiichiOtoya content (especially where he goes behind otoya and covers his eyes), I got to see more of him here. It surprised me that someone so cocky and confident was actually the same depressed, lonely person that Otoya was. But it was also evident to me as well that he did care about the effect it had on Otoya as well after he sort-of-well mind broke him. I like how he is ambitious but also still caring, as compared to an antagonist that would stop at nothing to achieve their goal regardless of how much pain they cause.

I also enjoy Eiichi because I feel like I can roleplay him well. Usually for me, roleplay has to achieve some kind of goal since I tend to be business oriented. I think to some degree I'm able to practice being a eboy idol through Eiichi, as I do enjoy charming the fans. It also helps that I can naturally play characters with an inflated ego who enjoy charming people.

July 2019. When Eiichi was first introduced to me via his voice, I hated him from the very beginning. His singing, his appearance, his personality – everything about him made me despise him. It’s funny looking back and seeing how quickly my attitude changed towards him, realising I’d been biased against him because of a friend. Finding more about him, hate turned to interest. I found Life with Thanks’ translation. “We’re irreplaceable to him,” he tells us, and that made me certain that his heart wasn’t as evil as some people liked to believe. He’s a caretaker, someone who wants everyone to feel like they matter. Even at his own expense. Instead of selfish, he’s selfless.

I related to him more than I have to any character – it was comforting. Seeing someone have no choice but to put on a brave face, even when his confidence was at an all time low. 2020 got a lot harder for me, but when I recovered, Eiichi was like a home to go back to. Time and time again, I’d have to break away, but I’d always be invited back in by that stupid smirk and overexaggerated ego and the warmest heart you could ever find. Every scene I watched with him would make me smile. I’d tease him to myself. I still do.

2021. That brings us to now. I can’t see my love for this one of a kind man dying any time soon. I don’t want it to, either. Just looking at him makes me happy! He’s the type of character with so many facets to his personality that you can keep digging and never reach the end. So, in conclusion, I hope I never stop finding new things out about this wonderful idiot. More than anything, he deserves all the love he gives to others, and I’d love to provide it tenfold.

KIRA SUMERAGI

Many have their reasons to love their favorite characters. As for me, why Kira Sumeragi is my favorite character is because there are several things about him that I can relate myself to and there are a few qualities he has that I like about him. If many do not know about Kira that much, they’d look at who he is. He may look intimidating at first and may not talk much, when in actuality, Kira is a considerate, dependable, and mindful guy. Mainly, he is the type of guy that lets his actions do the explaining. He is a hard worker, as an idol, he looks after his bandmates, HEAVENS, like family. It’s like what Eiichi said in HEAVENS Radio about Kira, “he is HEAVENS’ pride!” Although he may not say much, Kira is very observant of his surroundings and never hesitates in his decisions. The members of HEAVENS understand and acknowledge Kira, knowing that he means well.

You can even tell in his solo music! Although there are only two solo songs for Kira, if you read the lyrics carefully, Kira’s thoughts and feelings are shown. Kira always knew that if he cannot explain his feelings through words, then he’ll let his songs and his actions do it for him for you to see.  Although the anime doesn’t show much of Kira, the only way to get to know him more is through HEAVENS Radio, also drama CDs like Paradise Lost, and other media like LINE Messenger Japan. There’s still much that I’d want to know about him, but as a start, these things are what makes Kira my favorite character for HEAVENS.

Aside from my huge bias towards OnoD the first thing that drew my attention to Kira was his design. Dark haired anime boys with bright eyes have such a vibe and I loved how mysterious he was set up to be in season 2. But the thing that really hooked me a lot was the found family that Heavens became over the progression of the anime.

Particularly since people in the fandom have a bunch of funky headcanons about Kira being the mom friend in the group, which is incredibly wholesome. Kira’s very quiet and reserved but clearly holds a deep caring for his group members and does what he can when needed which is one of the reasons why he became so loveable for me.

Nagi is… Indeed obnoxious, and really has bad manners that are covered up by his cute looks and fame, especially since he's one of the original HEAVENS members, but once you get to really know him.. It makes sense why he's being such a brat. And that is sort of endearing. And knowing how his group is like family to him too, it becomes harder and harder to completely dislike him.

He knows what he wants, and how to get it. He knows how to get people to like him without handing over the tiniest sliver of his weaknesses. He acts in his own way that shapes his personality to suit him, yet still manages to be caring and helpful, even if it's hard to see tenderness and good will through his aggression.

Not a bad drawer but he rather keep it basic

He’s from class 7 AND I really think that he’ll be good at drawing

Well, he can draw a few things but he struggles drawing other things he never accustomed to

But!

Oomimi is that kid who’s good at drawing scenery

He knows basic color palettes and which is cold and hot colors

So the scenery drawing would always look good

He get a lot of compliments for the drawing (50% of it from Akagi)

I think he doesn’t have that many time to relax and draw freely but when he does have it, it’ll just be small and simple doodles

um, let’s go with 8/10 <3

I truly believe that Aran can draw peoples face but in a pretty decent amount

He’s also good with anatomy teach me your ways king

But as much as he’s good at that, he kinda sucks at drawing any kind of background drawings

Mans can’t draw a scenery I’m telling you

As if the background doesn’t even exist in his mind lolol I’m sorry Aran lovers, I didn’t mean that in a bad way

Mainly uses copic markers to color and color pencils to shade

The first time he use the copic marker, he got really frustrated that the marker stain the other pages lmao

And he never uses digital drawing applications or softwares

Aran just doesn’t

I think I’ll rate him, 8.5/10

Kita

Okay, I know that Kita’s a top student and never fails in anything

But he’s not typically a good drawer that much

His drawing still got good marks but when you look at it, it just looks normal

I just know that the Kita lovers gonna get me after this

It’s not that bad and not that good, just a nice balance in between

I personally think Kita’s not that godly in drawing but rather a neutral drawer

He draw what he can and does shading and coloring when it’s needed

The colors are all basic colors, no pastel, no neon

And the shadings are pretty basic

Just a normal drawer here

Ya’ll gonna fight me for this but I’ll give Kita’s point,
