Conversation
RP Meme from Oliver & Company
Now, it's always once upon a time in New York City.
It's a big old bad old tough old town.
Let me have one, please.
Right away, you're making time and making friends
If they pick you out, you're on your way.
Get out there and go and try.
Why does nightfall find you feelin' so alone?
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Keep your dream alive.
Got to look out and open your eyes,
You're in the fast lane
What's the matter with you? I said get outta here.
I don't eat cats. It's too much fur.
I've been watching you, and I think you're in serious need of some professional guidance.
I'm an expert at these things.
All you gotta do is learn some moves.
This city's got a beat.
When are we gonna get those hot dogs?
I hate to break it to ya, but the dynamic duo is now the dynamic uno.
Our partnership is herewith dissolved.
You're not being fair!
Fairs are for tourists, kid.
Consider it a free lesson in street savoir faire
Hey, wait! I helped you get those! Half of those are mine!
Why should I worry? Why should I care?
I got street savoir faire
You can wear the crown!
Everything goes.
Everything fits.
They love me at the Chelsea, they adore me at the Ritz!
Stop that racket! I'm trying to watch this show.
Shut up, you little rodent.
Come on, let's watch some boxing. I wanna see some action
You think this place is big enough?
What we need is some good quality stuff
Oh, shredded leather.
You insulted my pride! That means death!
It was your turn to get the food today!
You remain our preeminent benefactor.
It was tough. Only I could have done it.
I love a story with food in it.
Enter the opposition.
Gang war! Gang war! Watch out! Here comes a gang war!
Take cover!
It's just a cat.
I followed this dog.
He's lying! He's lying! He's lying! He's lying!
Oh, boy! Dog pile!
Don't let me down!
What do you got?
Let's see what you got.
I was just on my way out.
Actually, I've got something much better than money.
Some luxury items that should make a considerable dent in my debt to you.
Oh, my! You waxed your car, didn't you? Did they use the buffer on it, because I can see myself.
I don't think you grasp the severity of the situation.
Now, I lent you money and I don't see it.
People like you get hurt.
I can't figure out why you'd rather hang around a dump like this when you could be living uptown with a class act like myself.
Isn't it rather dangerous to use one's entire vocabulary in a single sentence?
You bad, man.
Hey, you got something to say to me, fat boy?
Why don't you pick on someone your own size?
Oh, I'm having a bad day!
I like cats. I like to eat 'em.
Your master's calling.
Come on and say it to my face!
How am I ever gonna come up with all that money?
It's hopeless.
That took a lot of guts.
All right. Time for bed. We've got a big day tomorrow.
We've got two days to do or die.
You got a lot to learn. And if you don't learn, you don't eat!
But if you're tough, and always use your head, you'll be right at home, on the street.
When you got talent, everything is free.
You're gonna see how the best survive.
These are streets of gold.
You'll take the town, and you'll take it with style.
You're in charge of electronics.
Hey, but what about me? What do I do?
Ready? Go!
What have I done? Poor thing.
You oughta be ashamed of yourself!
Run along, little fellow. Go on, now. Shoo.
Be a lookout.
I only got one more wire, okay?
Oh, you poor kitty. Here. Let me help you.
Where's the kid?
We can't just take in a stray off the street.
Don't worry, kitty. I'll take care of you.
Your public awaits.
Girl, we've got work to do
Pass me the paint and glue.
Perfect isn't easy
When one knows the world is watching, one does what one must.
See how the breeding shows
Sometimes it's too much for even me!
But when all the world says "Yes", then, who am I to say "no"?
Don't ask a mutt to strut like a showgirl
Perfection becomes me, ne c'est pas?
I'm beauty unleashed!
So classic and classy
They're barking up the wrong tree!
I have your hearts, and you have my pity
Pretty is nice, but still it's just pretty!
I wouldn't go in there if I were you.
What is the meaning of this?
I guess I'll have to handle this myself.
And do you have any idea whose home this is?
Isn't he cute?
What in Heaven's name are we waiting for?
Alas, our beleaguered benefactor bearing the brunt of our futile endeavours.
Cool it!
Our mission begins at daybreak.
I don't hear any practicing.
Oh, you wanna practice too!
We two can be good company.
You and me, just wait and see.
I'll handle that ruffian.
Body slam! Body slam! Oh, come on, you fool! Hit him! Hit him!
Come back here!
Huh, this place looks pretty nice. I mean, how bad off could it be here?
Chagall. Matisse. These are all masterpieces.
Hey, man, if this is torture, chain me to the wall.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Calm down.
Don't come any closer! I knew this would happen one day.
It's not you I'm after.
Not good enough for you?
I mean, do you even know who I am?
GET AWAY FROM ME, YOU LITTLE BUG-EYED CREEP!
Something's not quite right here.
Shh. Quick. Before he comes back. Follow me.
I mean, let's just forget the whole thing.
No, no, you can't do that! You don't understand. The poor dear's so traumatized.
What is going on here?
Hurry. Use the fire escape.
Ooh, I could've danced all night! I could've danced all night!
You were very good.
I was rather good, wasn't I?
You okay, kid?
I have another home now. And someone who loves me.
You're in the gang.
I just wanna go back.
You wanna leave? Fine! There's the door.
You lighten up!
Oh, it's hopeless.
Looks like you're doing all right for yourself
So that's where you've been!
Feel it. That's it. Very good.
This is an airtight plan
I'll even toss in a little extra for your patience.
It's my final offer. Take it or leave it.
I said, push!
No, you don't kill 'im yet.
Did we bring something green and wrinkly to make me happy?
I'm getting your money tonight! It's coming tonight!
Hey, I think there's hope for you yet.
Yeah, you're starting to think big.
It's creepy down here.
I drew a perfectly good map.
A child could read that map.
I didn't do it! I didn't do it! I was framed!
This is a tough neighborhood. You'd better go home.
I came to find my kitty.
You brought a piggy bank.
What kind of a person would steal a poor little kitty?
I'm so scared. I don't know what to do.
I found a little lost kitten.
No! No, wait! You can't do this!
Keep your mouth shut.
Stop! Stop! Time out!
There's gotta be some way in.
Peasants.
Well, it's nice to see that one of you has some manners.
After you, my little croissant
And remember, quiet.
Oh! I broke a nail.
Oh, balderdash.
Freeze!
I don't think you really appreciate the situation. Somebody could get hurt.
You smell that?
It's party time!
Where are those dogs?
I thought I'd never see you again.
What's the occasion? Come to rescue your little friend?
All right! What a woman!
Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it's off to work we go
This has all been very entertaining. But the party is over.
Hey, man, you're ugly!
Aah! Save me!
Hey, get off my back, woman! I'm driving!
All right, anybody want some cake?
Murder him! Twist his arm!
The gifts were great.
We'll start with a bath.
You know, you're not so bad for a bug-eyed little creep.
You come back here this minute!
Tell me why should I care
What a delightful scoundrel.

What to Read While Stuck in Quarantine
Right now, many people (myself included) are stuck inside and social distancing due to the Hell that is considered our world because of Corona.  As a fun activity for myself and in the hopes of maybe helping a few people through this weird/uncomfortable/stressful/whatever other negative phrase you want to use time, I thought I’d compose a list of books that may occupy your time. I’m going to try and stick with completed series or stand-alones so that in addition to everything else you’re not miserable you have to wait for a new book.
Similiar to my Non-Horror October reads post, I’ll add the Goodreads link so you can check out ratings and such!
So...here is my list of books that might help get you through the dumpster fire that is our current situation!
(I am aware some of these are very popular but I’m adding them anyway in case someone hasn't read them)
Tumblr media
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
After serving a year in a slave camp, Celaena Sardothien is granted the chance at freedom when the crown prince chooses her to be his champion in a competition to find the new royal assassin.
If you haven't read this series yet and love YA fantasy please do yourself a favor and get it. Katie and I love it so much
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas
A loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast; Feyre is dragged off as a prisoner to a magical kingdom after killing a faerie while hunting in the woods.  She comes to learn that maybe her captor, a beautiful Fae trapped in a mask, might not be as terrible as she thought.
I’m not even going to lie this was difficult to give a two sentence summary of. The first book is great but 2 and 3 are exponentially better and Feyre is just the badass woman we all need.
The Iskari Trilogy by Kristen Ceccarelli
Asha is the Iskari, responsible for hunting dragons in her kingdom. Engaged to a man she will never love, she is given the opportunity to prevent her marriage by killing the most ancient of all dragons.
All three of these books are interconnected but each one follows a different main character.  They were all AMAZING, but book two (The Caged Queen) was my favorite
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
In the country of Ravaka, cut in half by a darkness called The Shadow Fold, Grisha are an elite magical group.  After learning of her own abilities during an attack on the fold, Alina Starkov is taken away to learn to harness her power while under supervision of their leader, The Darkling.
I put off reading these like an idiot and finished them a few months ago and absolutely loved them. King of Scars is a continuation but maybe wait until the second one comes out to read it because I’ve been struggling getting over it and anxiously waiting for any news about it.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Kaz Brekker is one of the most notorious criminals in Ketterdam. When offered a job that will make him rich beyond his wildest dreams, he gathers a crew that can help him pull off a deadly heist.
This book has an array of diverse characters and a lot of excitement and hijinks. Takes place in the same universe as Shadow and Bone, so I would recommend reading it after them, but it can be done on its own.
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
The small town of Sparrow is located on the coast of Washington and has a troubling history.  Every summer witches possess three mortal girls and use their bodies to lure boys into the ocean and drown them.  When a new boy arrives Penny doesn't know if she will be able to protect him from her sinister home.
I read this one in a day and absolutely loved it. Easy and entertaining read.
The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller
Alessandra is tried of being in the shadow of her older sister so she devises a plan: make the Shadow King fall in love with her, marry him, and then kill him and take his kingdom.
This book was described as a ‘slytherin love story’ and I was all about it. It was an easy read and definitely kept me intrigued in the story.
Gone by Michael Grant
All adults disappear, along with cell phones, internet, and any other way to get help. Teens are left to pick up the pieces in this sic-fi story.
I read this series a pretty long time ago but it was SO GOOD. Grant did such a great job sucking you in, to this day I will still recommend it to people.
The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning (Book #1 is Darkfever)
When her sister is murdered, MacKayla travels to Ireland in search of answers. While there she learns she is able to see beyond the human realm, into the real of the Fae.
Honestly this series was so wild and I remember there being some unnecessary erotic stuff but it was still SO DAMN ENTERTAINING. A good way to escape the humdrum of quarantine life.
Anything by Gillian Flynn
If you need a thriller, murder mystery, etc just honestly pick Gone Girl, Sharp Objects, or Dark Places. They're all so good.
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Scarlett has always wanted to participate in the fantastical performance that is Caraval. She gets her wish when an invitation arrives, but then regrets it when she learns the performance centers around her sister Tella, who has been kidnapped by Caravel Master Legend.
I love these books. Scarlett and Tella are both amazing in their own way and the mystery and not knowing what is real and whats part of the game makes it so fun to read.
These Rebel Waves (Stream Raiders) by Sara Raasch
Adeluna is a soldier that helped free her home island of Grace Loray from its oppressors, the kingdom of Argrid. Devereux is a pirate, sailing the waters of Grace Loray and collecting its magic plants and selling them on the black market.  Benet is the Crown Prince of Argrid, unsure of his father’s beliefs and methods after watching his uncle and cousin burned to death after practicing magic. Their fates are intertwined as they all search for peace between Grace Loray and Argrid.
Katie and I both just read this and they were so good. The beginning is a little slow but the history you get on all the characters is great.
Angelfall (Penryn and the End of Days) by Susan Ee
Angels of the Apocalypse have fallen to Earth.  Streets are ravaged and life as we know it is over. When Penryn’s little sister is taken by Warrior Angels, she's willing to do anything to get her back, even make a deal with an enemy angel.
I looked for a hard copy of this trilogy everywhere and couldn't find it, so finally gave up and got the kindle books.  I loved it, the end of world sci-fi and enemies-to-lovers tropes were wonderful.
The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking) by Patrick Ness
Todd Hewitt lives in a town of only men, where everyone can hear each other’s thoughts.  He stumbles across a girl in the swamp, the only one he’s ever seen and it sets off a chain of events that can't be stopped. On the run and hunted by the only people he's ever known, Todd tries to discover the dark truth of his world.
This series was so well written and just sucked you in. Even if it seemed like nothing was happening or was going to happen soon, I couldn't put it down.  The books are all long too so thats a plus for quarantine reading.
And if you need something to bring you back to a time when things were simpler, may I recommend rereading some old favorites, two of mine are:
Harry Potter by J.K Rowling and Percy Jackson and the Olympians (also The Heroes of Olympus) by Rick Riordan
These don't need links, but they were two series that I loved when I was younger. The Goblet of Fire was the first big chapter book I ever read on my own and PJO just was so fun. I just read all the PJO graphic novels because I found them when I redid my bookshelves and it was a nice little escape.
Honestly, I have more recommendations but I feel like this is a long post already so I’m going to stop here and maybe I’ll do another one.
Anyway...happy reading, I hope this helps someone. It definitely improved my mood. Just remember High School Musical and hopefully we’ll get through this soon.

Welcome to the Glade
Part two
Tumblr media
Throughout the night, the girl lays in her Hammock, her mind wide awake with questions and possible theory’s as to why she ended up in this strange place.
The sounds around her also kept her awake.
The wind blowing the trees, forcing the leaves to dance in all directions on the branches they hung from.
She heard too, the heave sounds of metal and Concrete clonking together, the sound coming from the big moss converted walls that kept them in, or, kept something out.
With all this happening in her mind, she did try and think of her name, or of anything for that matter.
She couldn’t remember her birthday, if she had one.
She didn’t remember her family, any brothers or sisters... if she had any.
What she did know, however, that the only feeling she feels right now, is fear. She didn’t know what else to feel.
<><><><><><>
When the sky woke up, and the sun shined over the glade, the girl decided to get up. Her movements were slow and sluggish as she wondered through the small forest area where she was supposed to be slept.
As she walks, she looks around; trying to find the exit of this place and find the blond boy named Newt.
Instead, a voice from behind her makes her halt and turn around, coming face to face with another blond she’s only ever seen once since she’s gotten here.
“Need help?” They ask.
Nodding, the girl shyly follows him, seeing as he walks past the trees like he’s done it a thousand times before, well, he probably has depended on how long he’s been her himself.
“So, you remember your name yet?” Gally asks
The girl thinks, her mind drawing a blank, except, one letter keeps repeating at the back of her mind like an echo.
‘C’ it says.
The girl blinks, “I think it starts with a C...”. She admits
“Oh, well, I’m sure you’ll get the rest soon.” He said encouragingly.
The two then come to an opening, the shacks and tower visable as she looked in front of her.
The sun seemed brighter as they walk further into the filed.
“I’ll bring you to Newt, he’ll give you the tour.” Gally said. He looked at the gilr, her brunett hair was out of place, her tired eyes showed she probably didn’t sleep last night. Her soft looking skin made him wish he could touch it, just once.
The girls night was perfect too. She reached just below his chin, he imagined a hug from her, her arms wrapped around his waist as his chin rested at the top of her head while she buried her face in his chest.
The girl was beautiful too. Her face symmetrical and perfect.
He wanted the girl to be his.
But how could anyone love someone like him?
while he though of things he probably shouldn’t, they eventually made it to Newt. The gardener stood, leaning up against a wooden piller that had vines climbing it to the top.
“Ah, good morning; Greenie. Remember anything?” He says
His accent he had, the gilr found it soothing, helping her be a bit more calm than she probably should be in this situation. She’s sure anyone else would be making a run for it once they came out of a scary moving box up to a even scarier place where you didn’t remember anything.
“She thinks her name starts with a C.” Gally answers for her.
Newt gives Gally a pressed look, one telling him to pipe it and let the girl talk for herself.
But honestly, the girl didn’t mind.
“Can anyone tell me why Were all here, and why I seem to be the only girl?” She asks, getting straight to the point.
Gally smiles, the girl seemed to be straight forward, right to the point.
“It’s a long story.” A boy said coming up to the three.
She turned, the darker boy who seemed to be the leader as she guessed the first time she saw him walked with a purpose.
“Will you tell it?” She asks crossing her arms.
She was tired of beating around the bush act. She wanted answers and she wanted them now.
“It is time for your tour. My names Alby, by the way. Piece by piece you’ll start to remember things.” He says, he held out his hand, the girl hesitated but then eventually reached out and shook it.
“But why are we here, what is this place?” She asks
Alby lets out a deep laugh, the others around them do as well. Gally nudged her arm playfully, the girl turned to him and gave him a eye roll back.
She looked back to Alby, waiting for an answer.
“This place it called the Glade. It’s where we eat, it’s where we sleep—we call ourselves the Gladers.” Alby explains
“But who sent us here, why?”
The girl feels like she’s repeating her questions.
“Just, stop asking questions. I’ll show you around, okay?” Newt said, trying to calm the girl.
Though it sort of worked, the girl took a breath, “alright. Fine. But eventually your going to have to tell me who the hell sent us here, and why I can’t remember my name.” The girl orders
Gally laughs, the small girl telling the “leaders” what to do, she was definitely going to be a handful.
“Good that. Come on, we’ll start with Frypan.” Newt says and points his hands in the direction of the small hut where smoke comes out of.
Nodding, the girl turns her head, “see ya latter, Gally.” She says
Stunned, Gally blinks, “Uh, see you later, C.” He said
Newt squinted at Gally, he could see the tintied reddish cheeks from where he stood.
Had the misunderstood boy developed a liking for the greenie girl?
Newt then shifted his eyes, the girl two had tinted cheeks,
Was a relationship blooming, or was it something else?
Leading the greenie, Newt watched as the girl looked back one more time as they made their way to start the tour.
“So, who’s Frypan?” The girl asks once she turned her head back to the British blond.
“Uh, he’s probably the best cook around, maybe he made bacon today; hopefully you’ll get to try some.” Newt says
“Great. I’m starving.” She said
When they reached the hut, the smell attacked her nose and she breathed in, letting out a satisfying sigh, she looked to the guy who stood behind a counter.
He was chopping up something and something was frying up behind him.
“Hey, Fry, this is the greenbean.” Newt introduces
The cook looked up, stopping his actions.
“It’s a girl.” Is all he says as he wipes his hands on the apron around his waist.
Said girl nodded. “I’m Charlotte.” She says, her voice caught her off by surprise, her name was Charlotte, she remembered her name!
Newt looked over to her happily, “see, told ya you’d remember eventually.” He says
Frypan smiles too, holding out his hands he says, “well, nice to meet you, Charlotte. I’m Frypan. Would you like some bacon?”
Charlotte nodded. A wave of calmness washed over her.
If she remembered her name, she was sure going to remember other things...
Maybe this place wasn’t so bad after all.
Sitting down at a table, Frypan places a few strips of bacon in front of her.
Lifting up a pice, she takes a bite.
Letting out a delightful mone, she wasn’t sure if it was because she was hungry, or if Frypan was just a god cook, but she swears it’s the best thing she’s ever eaten.
However, all she could think about, besides how good it was, was how excited she was to tell Gally her name.
Thanks for reading!
Hi! I hope you all liked this second part!
Just wanted to say, that Charlotte has in fact shown up before Chuck and Thomas do, so the next part, part three (which will be up probably within a day or two) is going to start right at that point.
If that made sense.
Anyway, this is also a Gally X oc story because, well, why not?
So, again, thanks for reading and thanks for all the likes on the first part, it really pushed me to make the second one!

Merry Christmas, Ya Filthy Animal!
Summary: Evie drags Mal, Jay, and Carlos to go and get their picture taken with Santa Claus at the mall. However, with distractions around every corner, will they ever make it? Family and friendship feels among the Core Four and just the barest hints of Bal.
“C’mon, you guys, we’re going to be behind in the line to get pictures with Santa!” Evie almost shouted, her eyes practically sparkling as she pulled Mal along by the wrist and looked back at Carlos and Jay.
The two boys shared a glance but moved a little faster at Evie’s insistent gaze. Mal smiled and rolled her eyes at Evie’s enthusiasm, but went with it, knowing what a big deal it was to Evie to get those pictures taken.
Since they had fully integrated into Auradonian society, Evie had wholeheartedly committed herself to Christmas customs and mostly spent all year hyping herself and doing her best to hype everyone else around her for the holiday. She loved all of the beautiful lights, the giant bows, and the mysterious presents. More than that, however, she loved giving presents and enjoying quality time with her three most favorite people in the world.
So, the four of them went to the mall to get pictures taken with Santa Claus. Evie had been talking about it for an entire week beforehand, and she had even prepared the four of them gorgeous outfits for the occasion.
The girls were matching in style and the boys matched in their styles. Carlos was wearing a smart suit with a red button-down shirt, a white suit jacket, and black pants along with glittering gold accents. Jay was sporting a handsome gold suit jacket, a white button-down shirt, and black pants with sparkling silvery accents. Mal was showing off with a deep purple, velvety sweater dress that reached her knees along with shining green accents on her black tights and the dress, and she had a gorgeous draping poncho across the top part of her dress. And finally, Evie was sporting an exact copy of Mal’s but in deep purple with gleaming red accents.
Evie had undeniably put a ton of work in their outfits just so they could get those sacred photos. Mal really appreciated Evie’s hard work, and she felt that the least they all could do was humor the bluenette.
“Do you have any idea how many children get in this line?! We’re already late as it is!” Evie emphatically explained, and Jay rolled his eyes behind her back.
“Speaking of, don’t you think we’re a little too old for-”
Evie immediately looked to Jay with such a childlike look of wonder that he couldn’t bring himself to finish his original train of thought for his previous sentence. Her entire face was absolutely glowing with that sweet, loving, innocent expression, and he suddenly felt terrible for even starting to propose such a thing.
“Sucking candy canes?” Jay finished finally, grabbing the end of Carlos’ candy cane and pulling it out of his mouth. Carlos furrowed his brow, gaping at Jay offendedly.
“I’ll be the judge of that, thank you very much!” Carlos cried, snagging his candy cane from Jay and popping it back into his mouth. Jay raised an eyebrow at him, and Evie looked at Mal, withdrawing a candy cane from the pocket of her elegant blue coat.
“Give this to Jay,” Evie told Mal, and the faerie reached back so that Jay could take it from her. Jay hesitantly accepted it and put it in his mouth carefully. He tasted it for a moment, and he nodded his head appreciatively, savoring it.
“See? There you go,” Evie encouragingly reassured him, almost as if she were talking to a small child. He shook his head but didn’t say anything in favor of enjoying the candy cane.
“E, slow down, I don’t really think we should get in such a hurry. There can’t be that many kids,” Mal expressed, chuckling offhandedly. Evie sighed, and Mal knew that she was about to launch into some explanation as to why they should definitely be moving faster than they currently were.
“You guys, we need to be seriously dedicated because this line is going to get as long as- hold the phone! Do you smell that?!” Evie cried, pausing as she breathed in deeply. Everyone stopped abruptly behind her, bumping into each other as they tried to compensate for Evie’s sudden stop.
Carlos sniffed halfheartedly, but at the purely delightful scent that hit his nostrils, his face lit up like a Christmas tree as he searched for the source. He looked to the left, and he nearly drooled at the sight of the cookies there on display in the shop window.
“Evie, look,” Carlos told her, and Evie followed his gaze to the shop window. Evie immediately fell into just as big of a chocolate-induced stupor as the de Vil boy, and she followed him so that their noses were practically pressed against the glass as they hungrily gaped at the Christmas cookies.
“Snowflake, are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Evie questioned, and Carlos absently nodded, his candy cane drooping in his mouth as he gaped at the snacks.
“Let’s do it,” he murmured in response, and they both charged into the bakery. Mal and Jay shared a glance, raising an eyebrow at each other but following the other two inside.
As soon as they got in, Evie was already picking out every kind of cookie that she could ever dream of wanting. Carlos kept butting in and adding different kinds to the mix, and Evie was enthusiastically nodding her head, adding it to the order.
Mal approached the other girl and stood to the side of her in an attempt to catch Evie’s gaze.
“Weren’t you just saying that we had to move?” Mal asked, trying to pull Evie back from sweets land as the containers started to pile up to five.
“It can wait,” Evie immediately replied as she watched the woman place the sixth batch of cookies in a portable plastic container.
“Are you sure? Because you seemed pretty insistent that we-”
“Nothing comes before chocolate,” Evie assured her, extending her arms as she eagerly took and paid for the cookies gladly.
“E, what are we going to do with all of these?”
“That’s the easy part!” Evie grinned widely, poking Mal’s nose playfully.
“What I meant was how are we going to carry them?” Mal clarified herself, and Evie’s toothy smile was the only reply she received.
“That can be solved with the same method as what we’re going to do with them!” Evie singsonged, and handed one package to each member of the group.
“Are you suggesting we eat all of these?” Mal questioned, and Evie laughed heartily.
“I’m not suggesting anything. I’m saying you definitely should eat all of these,” Evie assured her, starting into her own container of cookies eagerly.
Jay looked at Carlos, who was already cramming two at a time in his mouth, and he shrugged, opening the container easily and beginning to eat his first cookie. Mal huffed and took one of her own, realizing that she was now completely outnumbered by the crazy cookie consumers.
Amazingly, before long, they had each cleared out at least half of their cookies, and Evie condensed the masses of cookies so that they only had three packages left. She then threw the plastic in a nearby recycling bin before taking Mal’s hand and continuing on their expedition to go see Santa Claus.
“Okay. Seriously now. We very shamelessly enjoyed our cookies, and now we’ve got to double time it to Santa,” Evie instructed them all, and she glanced back at Mal.
“M, wait a minute,” Evie instructed patiently, withdrawing a handkerchief from her pocket as she wiped carefully at Mal’s cheek where cookie crumbs had made their home. Mal huffed but allowed Evie to wipe them away.
“There. Beautiful,” Evie complimented before continuing in her dragging of Mal. The two boys followed them, and they continued on their way to their ultimate goal.
However, after a few more minutes, Jay happened to look to the right, and he stopped immediately, throwing an arm out as he kept Carlos from moving any further. Carlos furrowed his brow, but he allowed Jay to keep him paused.
“Wait a minute, you guys! Look at that!” Jay cried, pointing at the shop window as he hurried over quickly to look at the display.
“It’s a one of a kind, signed Tourney stick by the greatest player of all time Chuck Carrolli!” Jay announced, his eyes wide as he gaped at it.
Evie immediately looked at Mal, a conspiratorial look on her face and Mal knew exactly what the older girl was thinking: Christmas present possibility.
So naturally, when Jay proposed that they go in, Evie completely put aside any of her consideration for the timeliness of their arrival for Santa photos, and eagerly followed him inside the shop. Mal opened her mouth to bring to Evie’s attention that they were cutting it close with the Santa time, but she ultimately decided against it as she noticed how intent Evie looked at finding Jay a perfect Christmas present while the opportunity had arisen.
“C’mon, dude, it can’t be one of a kind because Chuck Carrolli surely signed more than just one Tourney stick,” Carlos pointed out, but Jay didn’t listen to him at all, suddenly finding himself even more fascinated by the helmet not too far off.
“Look, Frosted Flake! It’s a signed helmet by the greatest player of all time Isaiah Inglewood!”
“I thought Chuck Carrolli was the greatest player of all time,” Carlos confusedly noted, and Jay eyed him as if he had lost his mind.
  “Of course he is.”
  “But you just said-”
While the boys bickered back and forth about the greatest player in Tourney and how logically only one could be the greatest, Evie subtly eyed the price tag on the Tourney stick. Evie raised an eyebrow as she looked back at Mal, gesturing at the whopping two thousand dollars written on the small piece of paper.
Mal followed her motioning, and her eyes went wide, disbelieving that something as ridiculous as a Tourney stick could be that expensive.
“Good grief, E!” Mal whisper-yelled, and Evie cast her a warning glance, signaling the other girl to keep her voice down. They looked at the boys and Jay seemed to be none the wiser as he argued vehemently with the shorter boy.
“You might be Miss Moneybags now because of Evie’s Four Hearts, but this is ridiculous. It’s just a wooden stick with scribbles on it by some dude called Chuck Coriolis that none of us even know personally! This is highway robbery!” Mal proclaimed emphatically, whispering to her taller best friend. Evie sighed, tilting her head as she looked at Mal with a slight smile.
“First, it’s Chuck Carolli. And next, to Jay, this isn’t just a wooden stick with scribbles. It’s a one of a kind Tourney stick signed by a hero of his favorite sport and possible future career. It’s a symbol and represents a goal that he aspires to achieve,” Evie explained carefully with one of those huge adoring smiles, and Mal’s gaze softened as she eyed the bluenette lovingly.
“You’re sweet, Evie. Way too sweet for your own good sometimes, but you are sweet,” Mal complimented fondly. “Get the Chuck Carolina Tourney stick.”
  “Chuck Carolli.”
  “Same thing.”
Evie headed to the front desk to arrange for the stick to be put on hold so that she could come back later and take it home with her to be wrapped, and Mal worked to keep the boys in one area of the shop. Of course, it wasn’t very hard considering the fact that Jay was still insisting that two players could be the greatest, and Carlos was still insisting that was incorrect technically and grammatically.
Before long, Evie returned in such a hurry, Mal couldn’t help but wonder what had gotten into the girl.
“Guys, it is four forty-five, and Santa closes shop at five! Come on!” Evie cried and wasted no time in grabbing Jay and Mal by the wrists, dragging them quickly behind her.
Carlos blinked in mild surprise, interrupted in his thorough explaining, but he quickly refocused and followed them hurriedly.
Evie dragged them a bit further and Mal could see a crowd of people gathered in a main area of the mall. Evie’s face lit up happily, knowing that this was it. They would finally be able to get those pictures that Evie had specifically came for. She gazed at Mal in her pure excitement, but her face quickly lost most of its enthusiasm. Evie’s jaw slackened as she gaped at the sight of a certain display in the front of a clothing store.
“Wait a minute,” Evie mumbled, her brow furrowed as she stared at the styles in the window. She gasped, her eyes widening in recognition as she took a step forward.
Mal followed her gaze and she immediately saw what Evie was looking at. Someone had modelled their clothing- albeit comparatively poorly- after Evie’s designs. Oddly enough, they were designs that she hadn’t even officially used as of yet.
  “Evie-”
“M, I worked hard on those designs and I didn’t show them to anyone besides us VKs and a few customers so I could start their grand premiere on the market,” Evie informed her, and Mal could see the slight beginnings of tears of hurt in Evie’s eyes along with something much more serious, clouded, and boiling.
“I know, I know, but we’re here to get pictures. You can make a claim against them later, okay? I’ll have Ben make sure that they don’t use your designs anymore.”
“Mal, I wouldn’t have minded if they had asked permission first or made a deal with me directly!”
“Which customers did you show them to?” Mal finally asked, giving in to Evie’s determination to start a fight for her designs.
“I showed them to Cheyenne La Bouff, Flynnigan Fitzherbert, and Chad. Ironically, Chad Charming is one of my best customers. It’s probably that huge ego of his. He even seemed a little more interested in my designs than usual…” Evie stopped in her monologue, her eyes slowly meeting Mal’s as she figured out exactly who had leaked her unreleased designs. Mal sighed and just eyed her sadly.
Evie read the name of the shop and noticed that it was the store that Sarah White happened to be employed at. She immediately knew exactly what had happened.
Since the Queen of Mean drama, Chad had been avoiding Audrey like the plague. However, he didn’t avoid one of her old “friends” Sarah White. Sarah had always been unnecessarily cruel to all of the Core Four and especially Evie since she had come to Auradon Prep after the VKs arrived.
So knowing that Chad was spending time with this unsavory character that just happened to work at a clothing shop only solidified the knowledge that he must have told her what Evie was planning for her clothing line and quite possibly stole the designs from her book. After all, Evie hadn’t looked at them since she had shown them to Chad.
Evie and Chad had gotten a bit closer in the time that he had spent in her shop. They were definitely not friends, but she did trust him to not betray her since he was such a good customer and he had never given her a reason to not trust him since he had actually apologized for using her so carelessly to complete his homework.
Evie had at first felt hurt that Chad would do this to her after she offered to special release one of her first men’s outfits for him, but her injured feelings quickly evolved into something much angrier as her eyes hardened and she set her jaw.
Mal’s eyes widened as she realized that Evie had a one-track mind at this point. Mal looked over at the crowd of people that were thinning as the time wore by and Santa’s picture time drew nearer to its end, and she knew that they needed to hurry and that they didn’t have time to waste.
“E, listen to me. We need to get in the line because we’re nearly out of time,” Mal informed her, but Evie didn’t seem to hear as she charged into the clothing shop.
Mal shared a glance with the two boys before racing in behind the girl. As soon as Mal entered the shop, Evie had started speaking to the person behind the counter.
“Hi, can I speak to your manager?” Evie cheerily requested, that twinkle in her eye as she completely bedazzled the man. He nodded, spluttering and not having anything intelligent to say as he turned to head for the back.
As soon as a woman with a sour face and a name tag reading her status in the place showed up, Evie immediately began to speak.
“What are those?” Evie immediately asked, pointing to the display of clothes at the front of the shop.
The woman just raised an eyebrow, smirking as she eyed Evie.
  “Clothes.”
“Okay, let me be more specific,” Evie grinned falsely before losing all semblances of humor as she placed her hands on the counter firmly, glaring at the manager.
“Where did you get the designs from?”
“I got them from a friend.”
  “You mean Sarah White?”
“What’s it to you?” the woman shortly questioned, largely unconcerned with Evie’s inquiries. Evie furrowed her brow, her lips curling into a smile as she tried to keep her patience with the obviously slippery and slimy saleswoman.
“What it is to me is that those are my designs that I put hard work into,” Evie informed her. The woman simply scoffed at her, and Mal stepped up beside Evie protectively. However, she knew her influence was limited in this concern because as the King’s fiancé, there was only so much that she could do to exert authority. When she was Queen, she would receive ultimate say alongside Ben.
“I didn’t see your name on them,” she shot back, and Evie looked down at her name tag gathering what she wanted to know.
“Well, Lorrie, let me be the first to tell you that those designs are mine,” Evie told her boldly.
“I don’t think so. And how dare you come walking into my store like you own the place?”
“How dare you take my designs and act like you own them?” Evie replied quickly, and Mal could see that this was starting to escalate out of hand. She placed a hand on Evie’s arm, squeezing tightly as she tried to keep her from acting out too much.
“Ma’am, if you don’t leave, I’m going to call security to make you leave,” Lorrie finally spoke with a smirk on her face that showed just how convinced she was that she had won.
Evie’s eyes lit up in an entirely new level of heat and fury as she started to launch into a tirade. However, before she could even begin, Jay threw her over his shoulder effortlessly and started to walk out, Carlos walking in front of him and Mal behind him.
“Put me down, Jay! I wasn’t done! You can’t steal designs! You thief!” Evie cried, beating on Jay’s back with balled-up fists as she glared at the woman who was sniggering behind the counter.
“Evie, don’t worry, we’ll get Ben to take care of it,” Mal explained gently. Evie just kept her eyes locked onto Lorrie as they reached the exit.
Evie quickly latched onto the doorway, offering one last bit of fight before she let herself get dragged out.
“Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal, and a Happy New Year!” Evie cried just as Mal and Jay pried her fingers from the doorway, and they went out on their way. Evie growled under her breath as she stared at the shop name.
“E, look, there was nothing you could do, okay? She was going to call security and then we couldn’t go see Santa Claus to get pictures,” Mal told her, hoping to jog her memory and bring back her cheerful spirit of before.
Evie offered the store a lasting distasteful glance before looking anxiously in Santa’s direction, her excitement shining through. Mal patted Jay’s shoulder, letting him know it was safe to put her down now.
Jay carefully let her down and she laced her fingers with Mal’s as she hurried over to the crowd where Santa was.
However, to her immense horror and complete disappointment, there was not a single hint of Santa Claus anywhere in the area, and the colorful backdrop that they used for his pictures was starting to be packed up and taken away.
Evie just gaped broken-heartedly at the entire ordeal and Mal broke away from Evie’s now-loosened hold as she hurried over to the men.
“What’s going on? Where’s Santa?” Mal asked, hoping that they wouldn’t say what she knew they were going to say.
“We’re sorry, ma’am, it’s past five. We’ve got to close up,” he informed her regretfully, removing his hat to wipe the sweat from his brow. Mal nodded carefully and turned back to face Evie.
Evie had lost all semblances of sparkle and happiness. Instead there was just bleakness and droopiness. Mal felt her heart ache for her best friend, and she walked over to her sister, extending her arms for a hug.
Evie, despite how upset and numb she might have been, would never turn down a hug, and she did not disappoint this time as she walked into Mal’s embrace carefully and she enveloped Mal in her own arms. Mal rested her head under Evie’s chin, knowing she needed all the comfort she could get.
Everything might have started well that day, but it certainly didn’t end well.
Jay and Carlos approached them, and they wrapped their arms around Evie and Mal. For a few moments, they just stood there, all giving Evie a well-deserved hug.
“Hey, Evie? I could get you a candy cane. Would that make you feel better?” Jay finally offered, and Evie couldn’t help but laugh a little at his try. Mal and Carlos smiled at his efforts and they all pulled away, throwing their arms over each other’s shoulders and around waists as they headed out of the mall.
After a little while, they were back in the parking lot heading toward Charlene- Evie’s named Jeep Renegade- when they saw something that sent Evie back into her cheerful state. There, looking through the trunk of the car parked beside Charlene, was Santa Claus. Evie’s face lit up in the brightest smile that Mal had seen all day and she practically ran over to see him.
“Mister Claus?!” Evie called, and the old man turned to look at her, a happy little smile gracing his features as he adjusted his glasses to see her better.
“Yes, young lady?” Evie took that as her invitation to come closer, and so she did, her blue hair flowing behind her elegantly as she rushed.
“We were just inside, and we hurried as fast as we could, but we still managed to miss you. You see, my friends and I were really looking forward to getting a few pictures with you, and if it’s not too much trouble, would you mind letting us take a few before you leave? Only if you have enough time, though,” Evie pleaded with him desperately, her hands clasped together in front of her as she offered him her most winning smile.
He looked at her for a moment before shifting his gaze to glance at the other three that were standing awkwardly behind her. Jay offered a nod, Mal gave a small wave, and Carlos grinned a bit.
After a moment, the old man smiled kindly at the bluenette, readjusting his hat.
“I think I have just enough time for a few pictures,” he answered her finally with a twinkle in his eye, and Evie looked back at Mal with an exceedingly excited expression. Mal just offered her two thumbs up as the three VKs approached Evie and Santa.
Evie played with her phone for a moment, trying to set it so that it would take a picture after several seconds.
She turned to face the other three and Santa, walking backwards so she could set their positions how she wanted them.
“Okay, M, get over on the left side closest to Santa, and Jay, stand to the side of Mal. Carlos stand where Jay is, but on the opposite side. I’m going to be in Mal’s position but on the opposite side,” Evie informed them. However, she quickly realized that everyone was in the right positions, but there was something missing.
“And put your arms around each other! Act like you actually like one another!” Evie laughed and the other three couldn’t help but join in. Santa heartily chuckled as well as Evie placed her phone carefully in a nearby tree that was lining the edge of the parking lot. She pressed the button for the camera to start counting, and she hurried over to the group, getting in her position.
“Everybody, say cheese!” Evie told them, and they all offered a huge smile for the camera. Before long, there was a flash, and they knew that the picture had been taken. Evie smiled widely, hurrying over to the phone and checking the photo.
It had turned out beautifully, considering the fact that it had been taken in a parking lot.
“It’s gorgeous, guys! Thank you so much, Mister Claus!” Evie expressed as she walked back over.
“It’s no trouble at all, dear,” he smiled, and Evie hugged him quickly before heading over to the other side of the Jeep. The boys got in the back of the vehicle quickly.
However, Mal followed Evie over to the driver’s side of the car.
“Hey, E, can I see the picture?” Mal asked, and Evie withdrew her phone effortlessly, offering it to Mal.
Mal looked at the photo before bringing her gaze up to meet Evie’s.
“It’s perfect, isn’t it?” Evie beamed.
“I guess. Look, are you sure you don’t want to find another place that you could get a prettier photo with another Santa?” Mal checked with her. Evie just offered her a sweet smile, shaking her head as she wrapped an arm around Mal’s waist and resting her head on Mal’s.
“No. I’m sure. It’s the most gorgeous picture we could have gotten, because of all the memories it’ll hold for us,” Evie expressed, squeezing Mal tightly.
  “Merry Christmas, Evie.”
  “Merry Christmas, Mal.”

For They Shall Be Satisfied
Arthur Morgan x OC Chapter 3
(masterlist in bio)
A/N: yeehaw, some soft moments finally!! more where that came from hehe ;;))
Warnings/Categories: Violence, Angst
(WC: 4,356)
Back at camp, things were more lively than usual. The night before, the girls were in town working the saloon so they hadn’t had a chance to celebrate the success of the caravan robbery. Hosea and Pearson had brought in a wagonload full of beer and whiskey and they all had plans to get drunk out of their minds.
Annie had done her best to avoid Dutch when Arthur went to go talk with him and Hosea. She didn’t have the capacity to deal with any more politics that day, Dutch’s mind games included, and elected to go pass out for a few hours to make up for not sleeping the night before. It helped some, but she feared that the heavy feeling of her anxiety wouldn’t be put to rest by anything other than alcohol.
“You better slow down there,” Tilly said as Annie ravenously shoveled another spoonful of stew into her mouth. The pair of them were eating at the poker table and she realized that this was her first full meal in three days. “You might end up eatin’ the bowl!”
“So be it,” Annie said, chewing loudly.
“Good Lord, you’re no better than the men, Annie!” she said as she laughed and made a face.
“That’s not news, my friend. How’ve things been?”
“They’re better. Karen’s pleased that we’ll all be drinkin’ tonight since she won’t be the only one.”
“I’d imagine so,” Annie said. Mary-Beth and Karen took a seat next to them at the table, giggling and chatting between themselves.
“How are ya, Annie?” Mary-Beth asked in a sing-song voice as she ripped a chunk of bread into four parts to share with the rest of them.
“Never better. You’re a ray of sunshine today.”
Mary-Beth grinned. “I got this new journal in town yesterday. It has a pretty white leather binding and a clasp and everything!”
Annie smiled at her. “Sounds nice, I’m glad for you.”
“I told her she’d better not get too distracted or ole Grimshaw’s gonna throw it in the campfire,” Karen said.
They all tried not to make eye contact with Susan from across camp as they laughed. “You’re not kiddin’,” Tilly said.
“I’m upset I missed out on killin’ them O’Driscolls yesterday,” Karen said to Annie with a fascinated tone in her voice. “Sean told me you dropped ten of the bastards yourself!”
Annie shook her head and smirked. “Nah, only six.”
“Six! Now, that sounds like a party!”
“How are things around here?” Annie said, changing the subject.
“They’re fine, no thanks to you. <i>You</i>, missy, are lucky Miss Grimshaw’s been cuttin’ us all some slack with the chores as of recently. I’m not entirely sure why, but hey, I’m not complainin’.”
“I think she’s been gettin’… ya know… relieved of <i>stress.</i>” Mary-Beth said, low enough so that only the they could hear.
“Mary-Beth!” Tilly gasped. “No, there’s no way.”
Karen cackled hysterically. “Yes, there is <i>no</i> way.”
“I’m serious! Think about it. She’s spent an awful lot of time in Blackwater the past few days.”
Annie swallowed a stew-soaked bite of bread and chuckled. “Oh, if only life were as simple as those romance stories you read, Mary-Beth.”
“A girl can dream.”
Letting her mind wander away from the conversation, Annie looked out at all the familiar faces, friendly and unfriendly. Lenny, Charles, Swanson, Uncle, the Callander brothers, and Javier were all gathered around Sean at the campfire laughing hysterically at whatever story he was telling. Hosea and Arthur were standing at the opening of Dutch’s tent with Molly just inside, all having a quiet drink and smiling together. Micah and Bill were trash talking each other at the five-finger-fillet table and it was starting to get heated. Susan and Strauss were sitting peacefully near the medicine wagon, looking off over the ridge and the river. Abigail was playing with Jack near their tent, John just a few feet away watching them with sad eyes. The pair of them had just finished arguing about god knows what, but a few words thrown at John from Arthur ended it quicker than it started.
For a moment, it suddenly occurred to her what it all meant- and what it would really mean to lose all of it. If the bank shipment robbery was a success, that’d everything she needed to disappear and start over on her own. The thought made her stomach churn.
“Annie?” Karen’s voice snapped her back to reality.
The three girls at the table had a rare warmness about them. Their soft, carefree faces gave her he reminder she needed to put aside her troubles for the time being. It was not the night to think about what would be lost. That night would come soon enough.
“Want another drink? I was about to get a round for us.”
She smiled. “Sure, thanks, Karen.”
Soon enough, everyone was dancing, laughing, and talking around the big campfire. Hosea told one of his tall tales about his journeys out west. Dutch eventually put on his phonograph when everyone’d had plenty to drink. Arthur was even dancing with Karen and although he was terrible, swinging her all sorts of directions and swaying entirely off beat, she seemed to be enjoying it.
“My lady,” a lively voice broke through Annie’s mild buzz. Hosea held out a hand for her, inviting her to join the party instead of just observe it. “May I have this dance?”
“Why, yes sir, you may,” she said with a wide grin. She tossed her hat on her chair as he led her to a clear spot.
He led well and even flourished her a bit, careful to keep it subtle so she didn't feel like she was embarrassing herself. Though, to her dismay, she stumbled on a loose rock which prompted a comment about how she was better with using gun than she was with using her own two feet. She hadn’t seen him laugh this much in a long time. Since Bessie died, he’d grown a bit distant and bitter, but he never lost his wit. It was nice to see the rare occasion where he was enjoying himself.
“Have you given any thought to what we talked about?” he said, still smiling.
“I-, um, yeah. A bit,” she said, looking down to watch their feet move in sync.
“Good. Don’t worry, we don’t have to talk about it. You seemed… deep in thought earlier. I just hope that wasn’t my doing.”
“No, just today was a bit…”
“Chaotic?”
She chuckled. “Yes. To say the least.”
“Arthur told Dutch and I about the girl and the O’Driscolls. And that fella Benson. Why is it always the smooth talkin’, city-folk that are so slippery? Trelawny is the same way. More myth than man.”
“It’s not just city folk, it’s mountain men, too. And prairie girls. Let us not forget what you and I do.”
“Oh, I’d never,” Hosea said, laughing. “It takes one to know one, that’s for sure.”
Annie noticed that Sean had cut in to dance with Karen and Arthur was seated on a crate near Pearson’s wagon, whiskey in hand.
Hosea winked at her and called out to him. “Arthur! Get over here and take over, my back is killing me.”
“I’m good, Hosea,” Arthur said, smiling and raising his hands in defeat.
“You’re going to abandon a lady just like that, then?”
“Fine, fine, I’m comin’.” He reluctantly set his drink down and walked over to the pair of them.
“Thank you for a lovely dance, Miss Bolton,” Hosea said, bowing as he spoke. “I fear I must retire myself for this young fella here.”
“You were the one that called <i>me</i> over.”
“It’s fine if you want to cut in Arthur,” Annie nudged.
Arthur rolled his eyes and shooed Hosea away with a flick of his hand. “Get outta here, old man.”
“You kids and your entitled attitudes!” Hosea teased as he slinked off to get another drink for himself. “Got no respect for your elders!”
Arthur took over for Hosea, his strong, calloused hands replacing Hosea’s warm, weathered ones. He seemed a bit uncomfortable which made Annie blush slightly, but he eased into her stride. They were standing close enough for her to feel his breath on her neck, sending a chill down her spine. Neither of them enjoyed physical closeness, but for Annie, it never felt uncomfortable when it was with Arthur for some reason. She briefly wondered if he felt the same.
“How are you doin’?” he finally asked, breaking a silence she didn’t even realize was there before.
“Better, now that I’ve had a few beers.”
“Ain’t that how it always goes?”
“Indeed it is. He seems to be enjoying himself,” she said, nodding towards a seemingly very drunk Pearson who was dancing by himself, completely out of time with his arms outstretched as if he was holding a partner.
“That’s the most he’s gotten in months,” Arthur said, giggling like a kid.
She grinned at his goofy laugh and gave him a look of surprise. “Mister Morgan, are you drunk?”
“I think I may be gettin’ there, Miss Bolton.”
As she laughed, she looked into his soft, ocean colored eyes. They glistened with the light of the fire, like a sunset over a lake. “I’m not.”
“Well, then why the hell are we dancin’? Let’s get some whiskey in you.” He took her hand and led her over near Pearson’s wagon and handed her a small bottle of liquor from the box. “Drink up.”
She took a few large gulps which an impressed eyebrow raise from Arthur. He pulled up a second stool and they both sank into their seats, silently agreeing to keep all future partner dancing to a minimum.
“Cheers,” Arthur said and they they clinked their bottles together. “So, Dutch says he wants to go for the Benson job. Hosea on the other hand wasn’t too excited for it when I told him how things went down.”
She glanced at him for a hint of an expression, but his face was unchanged. “Did you <i>actually</i> tell them how it went?”
“Yes, I did. Hey, you had the opportunity to be there if you wanted to. But you have... <i>other plans.</i>"
She furrowed her eyebrows, giving him a look that half asked him to keep quiet while in the middle of camp and the other asking him if he was still angry about her plan to leave.
He laughed lightly. "Relax, I won't get on you for that no more. Well, not tonight, anyways."
She sighed and shook her head. “It’s just a bad idea.”
“I agree, but we need the money. There’ll be close to a hundred thousand dollars on that shipment. Half that is a good take for us. Better than good.”
“Yeah, well…”
She couldn’t argue with him there, though she doubted this would be the end of that conversation. If it ended up being a trap, she figured they’d likely been in worse situations before. Hopefully, it’d be nothing they couldn’t handle.
She took in the sounds of the party for a moment- the laughing, singing, Javier’s guitar now playing instead of the phonograph. It felt like Christmas.
“Hey, Arthur,” she said, suddenly feeling the liquor creeping up on her. “What’s the best Christmas gift you ever got?”
“What?”
“Christmas! Don’t tell me you’ve never gotten a Christmas present before.”
“I have.”
“Well, what was it then?”
He thought for a moment. “Well, my pa and I rarely ever did anything like that. Dutch bought me my first horse, though. I suppose that’s somethin’.”
“Shit, a horse?”
“Yup. Buttercup. I was sixteen and still couldn’t come up with a better name for a palomino pony than that.” He chuckled at the thought.
She shrugged. “It’s a nice name.”
“What about you?”
“Huh?”
“What was the best gift you ever got for Christmas?”
“Hmm. The gift of friendship!”
He rolled his eyes. “No, no, I told you, now you gotta tell me.”
Maybe it was the alcohol, the stress from recent events, or a combination of the two, but she started speaking before she knew what it was that came over her.
“My daddy gave me a bracelet a long time ago. And my mama got me the matching necklace. They weren’t nothin’ expensive. I suppose it was all they could do.”
Arthur nodded and hummed softly, carefully taking in her words.
“I lost the pieces within a week, of course. Though, I sure wish I hadn’t.”
He paused for a moment, thoughtfully. “It’s funny, lookin’ back at things like that. You never know, in the moment, which things’ll have fond memories attached and which things just sorta... fade away.”
Remembering the flower on his bedside table next to the portrait of his mother, she knew he understood. The man beside her had known pain just as she had, or at least had known loss. For some reason it was a difficult thought, to know he’s lost so much, too. She almost wanted to push back the hair that had fallen over his forehead and ask about his life before Dutch and the outlaw life that didn’t really make sense anymore. About what his mother was like, or what his son was like- what everything was like for him back then. But a different question came to mind.
“What happens when all this is done with?” She asked suddenly. “Everything with the robbin’ and the killin’? If that job pulls through, that could be it.”
He sighed and looked to the stars twinkling overhead. “I haven’t really thought about that.”
Annie tilted her head and narrowed her eyes at him. “Yes, you have.”
“Sure, but it’s all just in theory. No use in gettin’ anyone’s hopes up in case this ends up not workin’ out.”
“Then what do you hope for? Ideally?”
“I don’t know. To just live, I guess. Get a ranch like Dutch says. Free of the law and all the gangs tryina chase us. Maybe somewhere in the mountains out west. Those sunsets are incredible.”
Annie nodded, her vision slightly blurring with the movement, and she realized how truly intoxicated she was. “Well, that sure is somethin’, ain’t it?”
“What about you? You seem to have everything figured out.”
“I guess, I just hope I die old.”
Arthur laughed. “That’s it?”
“Sure. Folks don’t make a habit of livin’ very long in this line of work. I just wanna turn gray and wrinkly and fragile and die at home in my bed knowin’ that I did everything I could. What else is there, in the end?”
“I guess you have a point.”
“I always have a point, Arthur Morgan.”
She stood and started off go join the party again as the first of the drinking games commenced. But something in her paused, mid-stride. She turned to look back at Arthur as he watched her leave.
Smiling warmly and with a sincerity that hadn’t shown itself in a long time, she held his gaze. “I hope you get your mountain ranch.”
***
The morale boost that the party had faded quickly and Annie fell back into her routine of feeding the horses, cleaning guns, and hunting for camp, her low mood returning with the responsibility along with everyone else's. Talk of a new job had spurred impatience and restlessness. Maybe it was the dry air or the simple, lonesome town of Blackwater, but everyone seemed bored out of their minds.
Dutch sent Arthur to meet with Benson to give him an answer at the scheduled time and place and they were given three days to prepare until the convoy was set to arrive. Hosea was the one that had the idea to verify that there was a legitimate delivery. Karen volunteered to sweet talk the bank manager and sure enough, he confirmed it.
“He said that it’s more security on that those coaches than anything he’s ever heard of,” she told them.
Hosea rubbed his chin in thought but Dutch didn’t look worried. “We’ll have that diversion from Benson’s side. It shouldn’t be a problem, we’ve dealt with plenty of escorts before.”
“What exactly is the diversion?” Annie asked.
“He said he was still figurin’ out a few of the minor details, and that was apparently one of ‘em,” Arthur said.
“The diversion isn’t a minor detail,” she said. “It’s the one thing in this plan that’ll help it to not be a complete disaster.”
“I’d suggest we have a backup plan then,” Dutch said, a bit too harshly. “You’re so fond of coming up with those, so it shouldn’t be nothin’ that we need to worry about.”
“She’s right, Dutch,” Hosea said.
Annie looked between Dutch and Arthur expectantly, but neither said anything. The four of them, John, and Karen were gathered around Dutch’s tent. He was in a bad mood for some ungodly reason, so the conversation was a bit more difficult than it usually was.
“I know she’s right, Hosea, thank you,” Dutch snapped.
“Why don’t we do this another time?” John said, hoping to lighten the mood.
“We don’t have time, dumbass,” Arthur said.
“We’ll <i>have</i> a plan,” Dutch said. “Because Hosea and Annie are gonna handle this. Figure it out. Now, I have a few other things to attend to if you lot will kindly get the hell out of my tent.”
Annie rolled her eyes and looked to Hosea to say something. He sucked his teeth and looked up to meet her eyes. “We’ll take care of it, Dutch.”
Karen gave Annie a look of annoyance and snuck away from the rest of them as they headed towards the game table. Hosea spread out a map of the area with the delivery route traced by Benson.
“Here’s all we have. They want it to take place here,” he said, pointing to a spot a few miles north of Blackwater.
“Is no one gonna talk about Dutch?” John interjected.
“There’s nothin’ to talk about,” Arthur said a bit too quickly.
“Why’s he in one of his <i>moods</i>?”
“I don’t know, let it go.”
John looked up at Annie for a response but was only met with an icy glare. He sighed and leaned back in his seat. “Alright.”
“What if we made our own diversion if they end up not comin’ through for us?” Arthur said.
“Why would they not come through with their end of the deal?” Annie droned. She had given up on trying to hide her frustration. “It’d give us a window to grab all the money, not just fifty percent. The trap would never be in the shipment or the ambush. If anything it’d be in the escape. A setup so they can take all the cash and then set the law on us for the bounty money. And they’d be sittin’ mighty pretty on that mountain of gold.”
Arthur leaned toward her, folding his hands on the table. Annie remained slouched with her arms crossed. “Did it occur to you to share that before now?”
“It didn’t come up before now,” she shrugged. “We don’t even know who these fools are, I told you my piece from the beginning.”
“I agree with you, but that don’t matter. We just gotta do what we gotta do.”
“And walk right into a trap is what we gotta do, then? Like we’re fuckin’ blind?”
“Can we focus on this and get at least some semblance of a plan so we can tell that pinhead over there something?” Hosea insisted. “You three can squabble about this later. If we plan for the worst, we’ll be prepared for the worst. It’s simple, really.”
Arthur and John nodded reluctantly and Annie decided to swallow her pride, at least for the moment. She turned her attention to the map and began running the scenarios through in her head, talking aloud as she thought it through.
“If the diversion doesn’t happen, though I’m bettin’ it will, we don’t move on it, simple as that,” she said. “Every move we make has to have some kinda signal. We split into three groups around the ambush point, two here and one here. One rider from each group hangs back to keep watch while the rest go in for the take. If they see somethin’ they’ll signal and we abort immediately. If it ends up bein’ clear all the way through, we secure our half before we make our getaway.”
“What if it’s just a bounty setup and it’s a bunch of lawmen expectin’ us?” John asked, making Arthur roll his eyes.
Annie scoffed. “Then we all die in a blaze of glory, I guess.”
Hosea sighed and shook his head. “Dutch thinks it’s a risk we need to take.”
“To hell with what Dutch thinks,” she blurted out before she realized what she was saying. Arthur and John stared at her and she couldn’t tell if they were surprised or angry. “I didn’t mean… All I’m sayin’ is… it’s a stupid idea. We shouldn’t just do it because <i>Dutch</i> says so.”
Arthur’s jaw tightened and his nostrils flared. <i>Yep, he’s mad.</i>
“Annie...” Hosea warned.
She paused for a moment and looked between the three of them, anger rising in her chest. Hosea was tense, Arthur angry, and John clearly exasperated.
“What’s your deal?” Arthur asked, shaking his head in frustration.
She huffed an shifted in her seat. “Nothin’, I guess.”
“Annie, you can take a minute to cool off,” Hosea said, calmly. “We can come back to this later.”
“Yeah, let’s waste precious time while we let everyone take a personal day,” Arthur muttered. “Wonderful idea.”
“C’mon, just calm down,” John pleaded. “Nothin’s gonna get done if we’re all at each other’s throats.”
“Shut up, Marston,” Arthur snapped. “You’re the one to lecture about ‘teamwork’, are you?”
Annie couldn’t take it anymore. Without a word, she jumped to her feet and stormed away from the table, nearly knocking her chair over in the process. It took all she had to not pummel Sean when he accidentally got in her way. She grabbed a carton of cigarettes and matches from her things and strode over to go sit on a log near the river. With shaky hands, she lit a cigarette, took a long drag, and plopped down on the dead slab of wood.
There were so many other ways to earn money, ways that didn’t involve trusting a conman. It didn’t make sense why Dutch was so adamant about this. Hosea tries his best, but even he can’t keep everyone’s ducks in a row all the time, though how could anyone? John was trying to be better, which she’d give him credit for, but Arthur was just… being Arthur. The angry son of a bitch that wouldn’t let up on the “loyalty” trip, even for a moment. They all sure argued like family and if nothing else, it was like living in a goddamn zoo.
“I know you’re upset,” a voice said from behind her.
Dutch’s sudden presence was surprising but she didn’t care to turn to face him. “Call it off, Dutch.”
She heard him sigh and he took a seat next to her on the log. “You’ve been right more often than you’ve been wrong, Annie, I will admit that. All I’m asking is for you to outsmart ‘em. You’ve done it before, with less.”
“Dutch…”
He looked sad. Desperate, almost. She suddenly couldn’t bring herself to argue with him.
He peered at her with tired, soulful eyes, thinking for a moment before he spoke again. “I met this man, Andrew Crawford, a few months ago. He told me to contact him if we even ran into a situation where we needed the law off our backs. When things got bad out west, I told him we needed his help and we’d be out near Blackwater. So he wrote me and said he’d come, asking to send someone to meet him to discuss the details. And well, you know the rest. I just… want this to be our final ticket outta here. It’s all we got left to do!”
She nodded her understanding. He was doing what thought he needed to keep the gang safe. That, she understood. She just had her own version of it. Dutch wasn’t a bad man, she knew that much. But his judgement had been misguided recently. Hosea sometimes couldn’t even get through to him.
“What would they do clear our names?”
“From my understanding, whoever he works for is close with the Marshal Service. They have a few boys that they pay off to do their bidding.”
“Why’d you use a fake name, then?”
He shrugged. “I had suspicions about the legitimacy of his offer, same as you. That’s why I sent Arthur and you to go verify that he was who he said he was. I need you to understand, Annie, my girl. I’m not doin’ this for the money. This could be <i>it</i> for us! We’d be free! If it’s a setup, so be it. We got a whole lot to gain and next to nothin’ left to lose. You get me?”
<i>We got our lives to lose</i>, she wanted to say. She exhaled another long stream of smoke. “I get you, Dutch.”
“That’s my girl,” he said, clapping a hand on her back.
“Did somethin’ happen this morning? With Molly? I saw she’s not in camp.”
Dutch sighed. “She told me she wanted to ‘go off and enjoy herself’, whatever the hell that means. Think she went to the saloon to quench that Irish thirst of hers. Now, I mean no offense by this, but women can be… well, you know.”
Annie chuckled. “I do?”
“Let me just say- love is a bumpy road. But if ya don’t get on the wagon, you can’t get thrown off.”
“I don’t think I know what the hell you’re talkin’ about.”
He laughed and and patted her shoulder once more. “I pray you never do, my dear.”
He left her alone with her thoughts, and once again, she wasn’t sure what to think about anything.

Tumblr media
Prompts:  #181 ( “ If you’re bored; Wanna have sex? ” ), #161 (” Bite me. ”), #190 ( “ We cant do that here! ” ), #172 (” The food looks great but.. There’s something much more delicious i’d like to eat right now.  ”), #99 (” This was fun— Lets do it again sometime! ”), #60 (” You’d be a great dad. ”) and #55 (” Shut up and kiss me already. ”)   - Not in this order!
Requested by: @ilovedean112;
Oh, that’s not what you’re expecting.
You groan a bit, running your hand through your hair more than nervous, staring at the positive test in front of you. That’s not something that could have happen, specially because you know who is the daddy.
And it was suppose to be just fun, since the first time you two begin with that sleep arounds.
You works for WWE as doctor, and you personally take care of Seth Rollins when he got injuried, this bring you both closer and closer until the day you finally told him he can go back to the ring, he was so happy that invited you to have dinner with him, there is no way to refuse a invite like this, not his at least.
the deal is that you both start to get rather drunk while eating, and Seth really can’t take his eyes from you for a really long time, specially his eyes from your body.
“ My eyes are up here, Rollins. “ You teased him, this of course catch his attention, but he just offer you the most smug smirk ever.
“ Well yes but… You see, the food looks great but… There’s something much more delicious i’d like to eat right now. “ He told you, and you’re sure your face went red in the same second, because he chuckled. “ Thing is doc, you’re hot as hell, and pretty as a godness, I would be a fool if I didn’t feel anything for you. “
“ Mhm, thank you. “ You smiled a bit, taking just another small sip of the drink in front of you, as another sip would make your situation any better. “ In this case, Mr. Rollins, you’re the most attractive man around, and the one that I even seen, so I can pretty much say. “ You learned foward the table, hand gently reaching his chin as you bring him closer enough to whisper at his ear. “ Bite me. “
You quickly shook your head, you need to tell him, right? Even if deep down you feel like you must talk with him, all the rest is screaming to you don’t do it, damn you know the man, he’s so focused on his career now, he’s on top with his Shield brothers, you’re both co workers, what if the company punish him because of you?  You groan, the show is going on out there, and there you are, locked in the enfermary bathroom with the test in your hands, looking at that.
You sighed, it’s not like you thinks Seth is just sex, damn you actually have a huge crush on him, you like him to be completaly honest, you’re about to talk with him about you two next moning, when he just turned to you and let out an “  This was fun— Lets do it again sometime! “
Fun.
This is all you are for him, probably, but at least you’re not just a night, and someway this makes you happy, because this makes you a bit different than the other ones. You chuckled without humor before put the test finally away, throwing it inside your purse as you picked your phone up, looking at the time, but soon you unlocked it and went to the photos, smiling just for a moment as you stopped at a sleeping picture of Seth. He don’t even complain you took it, this suprise you in some way, your fingers gently went along the screen.
You’re sat at one of enfermary bed, just messing around with your phone when there is a softly knock on it, you frown for a second, it’s really early to any superstart be injuried already, but you quickly fixed yourself and told out a loud: Come in!
You relaxed when Seth walked inside and closed the door behing him, learning against it.
“ Hey, what are you doing? “ He asked you, and you noticed he looking over your body, but you don’t mind anymore at this point, makes you feel good actually.
“ Nothing, what are you doing here? I suppose you’d be at gym. “ You told him as he finally step ahead after lock the door, learning ahead as he positioned himself in front of you, arms reasting in each side your your body.
“ Nah. “  He said simply, shrugging a bit. “ But hey, if you’re bored, wanna have sex? ” you stared at him for a bit, and nod slowly.
“ Yes but– “ Seth don’t really let you finish as he pulled you closer, taking your lips on his, there is hurry on it, growing burning desire, but you quickly grip at his hsirt and gently shoved him away. “ Seth– Seth! Stop,  we can’t do that here! “
“ Why not? Are you hoping for someone? “ He asked you, serious but the grin on his face gives him, you stood there quiet for a moment and sighed. “ See? C’mon Y/N, you’re not getting in trouble, I promise you. “ His hand gently rested on your cheek, stroking it.
“ Why you always get it your way? “ You mumbled, bringing him closer for another kiss, Seth chuckled.
“ Because I’m the Architect, babe. “  He told you, deeping the kiss. “ And I always get what I want. “
You just get out your own thoughts when someone called you. You quickly put your phone in your purse and let in in the sink, quickly fixing yourself as you get out, looking at Seth and Joelle there, you frown.
“ Hey, sweet, what happen? “ You asked the young gril, that happen to be crying, she pointed to her foot, sobbing. “ Seth what happen? Where Roman? “
“ In his match! “ Seth said, he’s nervous as he try to calm Joelle down. “ We’re playing and she fall, Roman will kill me Y/N! ”
You sighed and picked Joelle up and set her in bed, gently asking if you could see where it hurt. After a nodd you started to check on it, removing her shoes to see how is this, she whimper a bit but you make her promise she’s a strong girl, and after she agree you was able to check on it better. Seth stay there all the time, satting at her side and letting her learn on him as he stroke her hair gently, saying it will be over soon, and you can’t help but smile a bit.
He noticed it and looked at you with a small from as you asked to Joelle hold the ice in place as you grab a few things. As soon you stood and walked away he did as well, walking to your side.
“ What happen to her? “ He asked you, still sounding worried but you know him better,he want to know why you’re smiling like this.
“  She twisted her foot, not so badly but enough to hurt, it’s not broken, you can calm down. “ You told him as you look around grabbing things. As soon you’re about to walk back to her, he hold your arm, making you stop. “ Seth? “
“ Why are you smiling like this? “ He asked you, and you almost chuckled, yeah, you know him.
“ Well, I was just thinking you’d be a great dad. “ You told him and he let you go, looking at you for a second and then he chuckled.
“ Me? As I a uncle I let her get hurt, imagine my own children? “ He shake his head and you simply shrug with him and walked back, making a  bandage  at Joelle foot.
“ You’re all done, sweet, see not so bad huh? “ You smiled at her, and she smiled back, hugging you tightly, and you can’t help but hug her back, you had helped Roman taking care of her a few times, specially when she just have a small cut or need something for allergy.
That’s when Roman walked in, and looks like he don’t even rest on his way from his match to the enfermary. He looks to calm down when she noticed Joelle is happily hugging you.
“ Deano told me she’s hurt. “ You let Joelle go so Roman can go and check on her, and that’s what he did, kissing her head. “  Are you ok? Y/N took care of you? “
“ Yeah! “ She reply, smiling at her dad. “ Uncle Dean, Seth and I did nothing wrong, dad, I promise! Don’t be angry pleasee “ and now she looks a bit worried.
“ Nah, not angry with you guys. “ Roman told her. “ Things happen, I know your uncle was trying to get you and Ambrose to calm down. “
“ Sorry man. “ Seth finally said and Roman just chuckled him off, like a: It’s fine!
“ Well, thanks Y/N. “ The samoan turn to you, and you smiled politely at him. “ Happy to have you around. “
“ It’s my job, Roman. “ You told him, making him chuckle. “ You can take her, just have her to rest, no more running around for at least two days, if she feel pain her usual med for it will do the job, ice on it every morning, ok? “
“ Did you listen, princess? “ Roman asked his daughter, that nodded, and just then he picked her up with really easy, bumping his first with Seth and then waving at you as he walked out. “ See you two later! “
“ See ya! “ You replied and then turned to your table, taking some notes as you’re porbably going to ask for more supplies, you’re almost ignoring Seth now because you’re working, but also because you’re starting to get nervous, you need to talk with him, about this. But you hesited in even open your lips, keeping they shut.
“ I own you one. “ He chuckled, his voice a bit away but you don’t really pay attention, but then the door closed you perked up for a second, turning around to check on the enfermary door, but it still open, you jump a bit, turning to the bathroom, oh shit. you hesited, turning once again to the table, Seth is not going to check your stuff, right? that’s when you listen to something falling in the ground “ Fuuck… “  You listen to him curse, before open the door.  “ Hey Y/N, I let your purse fall and… the fuck is that!? “
You don’t dare to turn at him, you probably know what he have on his hands as he stromp in your way, he push the test in front of your eyes, that’s when you finally look at him.
“ You know, if you got someone you could have told me. “ He told you, sounding both angry and hurt. “ Did he fucking know about us? Because shit, we didn’t really use protection and this shit last time. “
“ Seth… “ You started but he don’t really allow you to keep going.
“ Man, I don’t want to mess with someones else girl, you know Y/N? We’re friends, you could have told me! “ He keep going. “ I mean, since when you’re seeing the guy? Is he a cool dude? “
“ Seth– “ You try once again, groaning when he grabbed your shoulders and keep going.
“  I’m feeling like a fucking bastard now, fuck doc, like some short of fucked up asshole, I keep dragging you into sleeping with me and– “
“ Seth, shut up! “ You grabbed his face, making him finally be quiet. “ There is no other guy, it’s yours. “ You let it out, regreting it in the same second his eyes wide in pure confusion and fear. “ Yeah, it’s yours, they got my pills messed and now I’m pregnant with your children, Rollins. So can you please calm down, you’re freaking me out. “
“ But… but… “ Seth muttered as he looks like he’s processing what you just told him. “ If.. If it’s mine, what do we are now? Fuck doc, I don’t want to be fuck buddy with my children mom, you know?! “
And there he goes again.
“ What the fuck I’m suppose to do now? I need to ask you for a date or something? I mean, we did that already, yeah, huh… fuck, help me! “ He groaned, just to make you sigh once again. “ What about they hate me because we’re not together? I should have noticed you’re not well in those weeks, that have been what? It’s some time now– “
“ Rollins! “ You picked his attention once again.  “ Just shut up and kiss me already, fine? We can talk about how much I want a relashionship with you ”
“ You… want? “ Seth asked, looking actually pretty happy now but he got serious once again when he see you nod and roll your eyes, how old is he again? He cupped your cheek, and kissed you, with a wide silly smile on his lips. “ Great, because I have been wanting to call you mine for fucking some time now. “
And all you can do is smile with his words, maybe you’re wrong about this, maybe your children is exactly waht you need to fianlly tell him about what you feel.
And maybe it’s al what it need to him admit what he feels for you too.

Your Name (Kimi No Na Wa) - Review
To put it bluntly I watch a fair amount of anime, and Anime Youtubers as well for that matter. Mother’s Basement, Gigguk, Digibro, Exclamation Point (who deserves more subs to be honest), you name one: I’ll probably have watched them.
Recently one of them in particular, Gigguk, posted a video speaking about his own personal favourite anime film, the latterly released film “Your Name” (or otherwise known as “Kimi No Na Wa”), which was directed by Mikoto Shinkai. Of course, upon starting up the video, I was greeted with a spoiler warning, which understandably made me click off the video and gave me the urge to watch the film for myself.
Mikoto Shinkai is a name I’m definitely familiar with in the anime and film industry, primarily after watching his 2007 film “5 Centimetres Per Second”, which became one of my personal favourite films, mainly due to its bittersweet mood and the film’s main message of the harsh reality of “not knowing what you’ve got till it’s gone”, I felt spurred on even more to check his latest piece of work out.
Tumblr media
First off let’s talk about the fairly obvious elephant in the room, the animation. By god, this film is breathtakingly beautiful. You can tell that Shinkai has put an almost extreme amount of effort into this film as each frame is bursting with colour and detail, specifically on buildings or natural landscapes. So much so that every single one would probably be adequate on your desktop background. Plus, there’s the very impressive tracking shot that flies off from Taki’s house in Tokyo between the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, all the way out to Mitsuha’s home in Itomori. It’s a stunning shot and not only is it a complete marvel to watch, it also sells the in-movie distance between the two main characters. There’s another factor that also further improves the quality of the animation and that’s Shinkai’s usage of Licencing. Just as an example, in some of the scenes set in Tokyo during the film, a keen eye would notice that on certain buildings there are logos for such companies as Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, Toshiba, the list goes on. This is how much Shinkai pays attention to the detail and it definitely pays off, immersing the viewer further into Your Name’s world.
Tumblr media
Secondly, the best part of any film, the story – I’ll be covering the plot and characters of the film here.
The film begins from the perspective of Mitsuha Miyamizu, a high school girl living in the fictional Japanese rural town of Itomori. It’s apparent early on that Mitsuha isn’t keen on living a quiet life in the somewhat desolate town (or out in the boonies as the dub occasionally mentions) and wishes that she could be a handsome Tokyo boy in her next life. Enter Taki Tachibana, a high school boy working a small part time job at an Italian restaurant and living in Tokyo (what are the odds!). Suddenly and randomly every few days, the two swap bodies and are able to live out the other person’s life for a day (think of it a lot like Freaky Friday just not permanently). Thus, the two unanimously decide to work together to keep each other’s lives in check and also attempting to discover why both of them keep switching places, while also improving certain aspects within their lives (Mitsuha helps Taki to strike up a relationship with Miku Okudera, one of Taki’s co-workers, while Taki helps Mitsuha to become more popular at school).
I was considering going into practically extreme detail about the actual plot of the film but I realised that it would take up a large portion of the review and would (obviously) spoil the entire film. I’ll still be briefly mentioning certain characters or events that aren’t extremely important to the plot or that I haven’t mentioned so you may have to ya know, watch the actual film or follow the links below for the entire story overview.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Your_Name#Home_media
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHEjDq9Lh1U
One of the main grabs of the film is that it is able to draw you in and can make the viewer really care for Taki, Mitsuha and their relationship with one-another. I’ve heard criticism of Taki and Mitsuha for being too simplistic and somewhat bland, but I would say that while you can’t call them perfect characters, to say that they are bad or mediocre would be just plain lying. They’re simplistic characters - because a majority of normal human beings are like that. Most people don’t have a hidden backstory or an underlying problem in their lives and don’t need to be incredibly complex characters in order to be good characters. The side characters are pretty good too, with Tessie being hot-headed, but friendly and understanding, and Miku being easy-going, yet thoughtful and likable. The actual story itself (which as I previously mentioned I won’t be spoiling here) is a genuinely heart-warming experience and the main twist of the film will definitely catch you off guard (trust me it’s very subtle and is revealed fantastically). The love story is also built up fantastically, and as Shinkai has done with his other films, he is able to accurately understand and portray a teenage romance, making it feel fairly natural and ordinary. The story and characters are comprehensively incredible (well to me anyway).
Tumblr media
Next up, the soundtrack. This is a truly sublime soundtrack and the main songs of the film (“Dream Lantern”, “ZenZenZense”, “Sparkle”, etc) by Radwimps are stellar and match each scene perfectly both in mood and tone. Especially when you consider that the music was basically what shaped certain scenes of the film. Shinkai intentionally changed certain parts of the story / script to work around Radwimps’s music. This in turn helps to “supplement the dialogue and monologue of the characters” (to quote Shinkai himself). The music just syncs so well with the moments of the film and the soundtrack in general works wonders during the more emotional, awe-inspiring and light-hearted moments. Overall, a fantastic soundtrack.
Tumblr media
Lastly, I’ll be going over the voice acting (subbed AND dubbed). And to be perfectly honest, both were pretty solid. While the dub’s no Cowboy Bebop (cause ya know every dub ever made has to be compared to Cowboy Bebop), Michael Sinterniklaas (Taki) and Stephanie Sheh (Mitsuha) put in a good shift with the exception of the odd occasional line coming across as slightly melodramatic, and (as much as I personally prefer dub to sub) the sub is of course as you’d typically expect pretty exceptional. Ryunosuke Kamiki (Taki) and Mone Kamishiraishi (Mitsuha) portray their characters and their emotions remarkably well. The side characters of both sub and dub are also fairly impressive and there is no specific actor / actress that could be pointed out as a weak point of the casting. The casting overall for both sub and dub was of the highest degree.
Final Word
Your Name was just…wow. This was a very surprising movie to me, as I hadn’t really set the film any kind of benchmark going into it and I haven’t really been a big fan of romance films over the course of my life. But Your Name has changed that for me. It’s heart-warming and charming, upbeat and dramatic, detailed and visually stunning…there’s just no perfect word to describe the film... asides from maybe beautiful. The characters are memorable and are portrayed fantastically, the animation and detail is immaculate, the story just clicks perfectly into place, it is a modern anime classic and is truly deserving of the records it has broken; even if Mikoto Shinkai disagrees with it. Just go see it. Trust me. You won’t regret anything.

I got to meet Sarah J Maas yesterday at a signing and it was a fabulous experience. The place was packed (and by place I mean church) and we were there for three hours, but it was well worth it. She talked for about an hour before the signing. Some cool talking points:
-She acts out her scenes before a mirror...with Annie as her only witness. Annie sleeps through this.
-If she was a character in one of her books, it would be Fleetfoot. Because she too likes bacon, to be brushed by hot men and Fleetfoot makes it to the end.
-Feyre and Rhys’ Theme song is Cosmic Love by Florence and the Machine. Aelin is Back in Black by ACDC and Lysandra is Bad Girls by MIA.
-She wrote the Chaol book in five days. It’s about the size of Empire of Storms and her excitement about it is infectious. I wasn’t excited about it before, but I am now. And she says it’s integral to the Throne of Class storyline.
-She didn’t want to leave the ACOTAR world and basically wrote a fanfic of her own work after the events of ACOWAR. Accidentally pitched the project to her agent over a few drinks in Chicago and Bloomsbury bought the rights.
-She used to eat lunch alone in the library as a Freshman and was the President of the Lord of the Rings Club...which she founded.
-Her advice for aspiring writers is not to listen to anyone telling you that you can’t. When they say that, you say watch me. She also says that you need to show up though and hustle. Write every day. Treat it like your job.
-Her recommendations for after finishing ACOWAR are The Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward and Karen Marie Moning’s Fever Series for older readers. For YA, The Star Touched Queen.
All in all it was really fun time and she seems like an amazing person. I got my books signed and showed her a picture of my dog Rowan, who she thought was adorable.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by This Artsy Reader Girl.
This Top Ten Tuesday topic was surprisingly difficult. Every book that I read that is not set in my surroundings is usually a fantasy book set in a made-up place. I know that there are lots of YA Contemporary Fiction books set in other countries but I don’t usually read those. I know that there are good ones but I feel like a lot of them have spoiled main characters that don’t want to be where they are and I get annoyed. These are the the books that I’ve either read or am interested in reading that are set in another country.
The Dry
The Bear and the Nightingale
The Chalk Man
City of Brass
Crimson Lake
Darkfever
The Hollow Girl
The Half-Drowned King
Akata Witch
The Astonishing Color of After
1) The Dry by Jane Harper
I’m reading this book now and it’s so good. The Australian setting is very creepy in a way that I didn’t expect. The small town is going through a drought and it is causing everyone to be very stressed, almost to their breaking point.
2) The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
The Russian setting in this book is so rich. The story would not be the same without the lovely details the author writes into it. I believe that Arden studied in Russia and her love of the place and the culture really shows.
3) The Chalk Man by C. J. Tudor
Although I didn’t love this book, I liked it for this post because it doesn’t really change the story. This story could take place in any setting. It didn’t affect the story very much which shows that places that are not my home, are homes for other people. That’s so obvious but it’s difficult to remember sometimes.
4) The City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty
This book is set in Egypt and I’ve heard it described as Historical Fiction with Fantasy. Originally, I didn’t have a lot of interest in this but then more and more people are saying that it is one of their favorites of the year so far and I have been tantalized.
5) Crimson Lake by Candice Fox
This book reminds me of The Dry, being that it’s a crime novel set in Australia. I am super enjoying The Dry so I believe that I’ll really enjoy this as well!
6) Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning
I know that I have been posting about this book a lot but that should just show you how little books I read set in another country! I really need to change that… This is set in Ireland. Fae stories are familiar to me but I feel like this being set in Ireland made it even better.
7) The Hollow Girl by Hillary Monahan
I looked it up and Kirkus said the main character in this book is Welsh-Romani so I assume it would take place in Wales? Either way, this book has an entirely different culture than I am familiar with so I would count that!
8) The Half-Drowned King by Linnea Hartsuyker
I really got into Vikings (a tv show on the history channel) at the end of last year and I got this book because of that. I think I would like to explore the culture of Norway and the vikings even more.
9) Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor
This book is set in Nigeria which is different from any book I’ve ever read. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it! Like City of Brass, it seems like it is maybe a contemporary mixed with a fantasy element because there is magic.
10) The Astonishing Color of After by Emily E. R. Pan
Magical realism set in Taiwan? I am so there. This book has been everywhere and lots of people are loving it. I want to be one of those people!
Let’s chat!Have you guys read any of these books? Would you recommend them? What other books have you read in a different country than the USA? I know that I am missing a lot of countries and I need to fix that!
Thanks for reading!
Top Ten Books Set In Another Country. This list makes me realize that I need to read more outside of the USA. If you have any recommendations, please let me know! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by This Artsy Reader Girl. This Top Ten Tuesday topic was surprisingly difficult.

Grace
I lost my best friend a while back, but I wanted to share this story.
I was friends with this girl. Her name was Abbie and she was a little on the chubby side, she was very shy and she was a lot like me. Swore a lot, made dick jokes, things like that.
When we became friends she started to slowly like the things I like, bands and style. Soon she became my best friend, I was clingy and wanted her to be mine and only mone, since she was the one person I really called a friend.
Everything was good, she liked me, I liked her, we hung out a lot. This went for 3 years until one year in school. We had different lunches, we had no classes, and the hallways were suicide if you decided to stop in the middle of them.
This other girl I never really liked, and my friend didn't either, had the same lunch as her. Now this girl was bad, she always hung out with us though. She smoked weed, drank, smoked normal ciggerats, she got in trouble with the police many times.
But since my friend would be alone she had to hang out with aomwone, the girl we will call Hannah.
Soon Hannah was stealing my best friend. In breaks she would always leave with Hannah, al a ya talk to her. She was to busy to even notice me, so I waited.
And waited
And waited.
The next year she barley even looked at me. A convocation I over heard with her and Hannah, was terrible. Hannah had convinced my friend to start losing wait. Throwing up, not eating, taking a pill to make it so she was full. They always hung out together, talking about this shit. I was scared, and I couldn't tell her mom or dad because they didn't like me, I didn't even have their phone number.
Telling anyone, they would just think I was lying. Day by day I saw as she got skinnier. I tried confronting her multiple times but she always pushed me down. She started saying things to me like "I think you shouldn't eat that" and when I was hungry she would say "no you don't need to eat just drink water"
She was brain washed. She always thinks about everyone hating her but Hannah, Hannah was her only friend, Hannah cared about her. I've told her millions of times I loved her, I cared about her, and I even sang to her when we went swimming and she felt self conscious about her body. But Hannah, with what I know, never did any of those things.
In the middle of that year we no longer talked, looked at each other, communicate in any way.
I have a couple friends, but they are fake, don't listen to me, abuse me. Grace was my only real friend, she gave me confidence to be in a play, she pushed me in front of the class and stood with me when I didn't have enough confidence to read a story I wrote in front of everyone. But now I don't have any of that. Grace is dead, not physically but mentally. She has no confidence in anything but a negative person, she is destroying her body by gaging herself to throw up and cutting herself, because Hannah said it would make her cool.
Don't lose your friends that care and love you, and replace them with one's who just want to abuse you.
I know how much this hurts. I use to want to be skinny, I use to forcefully throw up. I cut myself because of the world. But I found someone, her name was Grace, and I tried to help her love herself.
