arrowhead spears are usually under to category "mao" (矛)and as far as im aware there are 3-ish types (?) (mao矛, qiang枪 and shuo槊). qiang would be closer to the ones in the pic but !!!! they all have diverse variations of spear heads so it might take a while to find the exact one.
here are some resources!!! (in mandarin): https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E6%A7%8A/16477686

also i am not sure what you mean by ‘”tang shen”? Tang seng (唐僧/Tan Senzang/Tripitaka) from Journey to the West was a monk seeking nirvana/to relieve people of suffering, and was based upon a real Buddhist monk (XuanZhang). Throughout the surrounding myths, it is believed that eating tangseng’s flesh could bring immortality (which is why so many monsters/yaoguai hunted him down and also the reason why the monkey king sunwukong was assigned by a higher order god (i dont remember the name oops) to protect him. there were also like 3 other disciples but bailongma (the horse tangseng rides on) doesn’t really do much other than transport him (?) so idk. also im pretty sure it was also assigned by the same god to accompany tangseng soooo yeah.
but it would make sense for Big Mama to want to get rid of/eat Tangseng for his flesh or idk which motive ROTTMNT would give her. In “Journey to the West”, the spider witches/yaoguai (zhizhujing蜘蛛精)took a more temptress/seductive role to lure tangseng to his death for yk his rumored divine flesh (that sounded weird). it might have been possible for Lou Jitsu to have a close relationship with Tangseng as friends/associates/coworkers for Big Mama to target him as a romantic interest (fake) but idk i havent really watched that far yet.
Another interesting thing is that Big Mama might have 6 other siblings (cause there are 7 total spider witches in the originial JttW text) so maybe they could be other ruling mob bosses (:eyes:)?
the masks are interesting cause they remind me of the guard lions in the front of temples/gates/entrances to (you guessed it) guard the gates and protect the people inside from evil spirits such as the witches or bad luck/bad fengshui. basically the western equivalent of gargoyles on cathedrals n christian monuments. but the comparison of the masks to lion guardians are a bit of a far stretch imo. Otherwise i think they are just oni masks (they had the same purpose but were used ceremonially (i think)).
Big Mama's Chinese Roots and a Connection to Tang Shen?
First off, to preface... this whole thing started because @caro-rolo figured out that the Mystic Portal Key doohickeys in Rise are actually just some kind of fancy compasses that have North, South, East, and West written in Chinese characters.
Now, the first thought I had to learning this was "Tang Shen" because in the TMNT universe where Japanese influence is pretty heavy, she is notable for having a Chinese name.
She is also the love interest of Hamato Yoshi in many different variations. Though in Rise, that role belongs most notably to Big Mama, with Tang Shen being a blink and you miss it easter-egg credit on the cover of Jistu for Justice:
Mama is also most likely the source of where Splinter got his mystic portal key, and she even has one of her own in her office. Judging by how much control she has over the Hidden City, from the Battle Nexus, to demolition derbies, to train stations, to crime rings, she seems to have a large control over just who all is in her city, and these keys could very well be something she controls directly.
Now, Big Mama has all the set ups for having typical TMNT Japanese roots. Even her home estate seen in "Hidden City Job" has a very Asian look to it inside and out:
Plus, the whole "her being a yokai", makes it easy to assume she is based on some kind of Japanese spider demon like Jorōgumo, Yatsukahagi/Tsuchigumo, or Ōgumo, etc.
But "Yokai" can also be used to describe the Chinese term "yaoguai" which is basically the same definition.
So if Mama were a Chinese spider demon instead, the first one who comes up on a quick Google search is "zhī zhū jīng" or "spider woman". These are 7 spider demon sisters who fight Sun Wukong in Monkey King: Journey to the West.
Here, the spiders changed into seven beautiful young ladies who wanted to eat the flesh of Sun Wukong's master, Tang Seng, which is said to make the consumer immortal and forever young.
"Tang Seng"... "Tang Shen"... sounds pretty similar.
And aren't there also some animation ties from ROTTMNT to Lego Monkey King? Tangent side note, but there's a spider demon queen in that universe too and guess what? SHE'S PURPLE!
And where did Mama and Lou Jistsu first meet? On set of one of his movies "Crouching Shrimp Hidden Tiger Prawn" in 1984. A movie where an actress like Tang Shen could very well have ties to? (We'll come back to this at the end.)
Another chip in the Chinese vs Japanese bucket is Big Mama's Security Team:
At first, I thought their distinct faces represented Blue Japanese Hannya/ Oni masks, but what if they're supposed to be Chinese Nuo masks instead? Not unlike Zuko's Blue Spirit mask in ATLA.
You could also argue these guys are wielding a sort of Qinglong Ji or Fangtian Ji, which are Chinese spear or polearm weapons. (But if anyone knows what those spear thingies are really called, please let me know, it's driving me nuts!)
...
In conclusion, I got sent on a massive rabbit hole because of a fictional compass and regret nothing! 🧭
Now what is Big Mama's connection to Tang Shen? Are they related? (The actress does look a bit purple.) They could be sisters like the 7 sisters of the Monkey King lore. Did Mama seek to get rid of Tang Shen so she could get closer to Lou Jitsu herself? Are they the same person? Is Big Mama based on Japanese or Chinese folklore? Did any of this make any sense at all?
Let me know what you think, and thanks for joining me for another deep dive into another one of my random ROTTMNT theories!
(PS- Sorry, I was going to put this under a "read more" but it was messing up the image order for some reason, so I'll tag warning with "long post" to avoid a lot of scrolling.)
#im sure there's more but it's all i could muster up in like 15 mins#also i think BM might've been a patroness to LJ's movies or idk a particular actress maybe??#but yeah it;s interesting to think about all that in consideration of both chinese and japanese yokai/yaoguai culture.#and lore#there;s so much lore it drives me a little crazy#i just wish we knew BM;s actual name (sob)#i hope this helped!!!!!!#although i repeated quite a few of the info#but idk i couldnt help it hehe#ya cultural brainrot go brrrr

So, I have finished reading Journey to the West and wow. It's really long but it's worth it. These are my thoughts on the protagonists (they're mostly about Sun though, I love that monkey) Anyway, they're kinda jumbled up so I'm sorry snznsn
These are their names
-Chen xuanzhang/tripitaka tang
-Sun wukong/Pilgrim
-Zhu wuneng/eight rules (pigsy)
-Sha wujing/sha monk (sandy)
FOUND FAMILY TROPE
the three disciples treat each other as brothers
Sun's the oldest since he's the first disciple
The second is wuneng
The youngest is sandy
Tripitaka's like a dad scolding his sons for being reckless and mischievous
Sun gives off big brother energy, the kind who protects and saves you from harm but never ceases to mess with you if he gets the chance
especially to wuneng, finds ways to trick him with the use of food
Never harms wujing though (except the first time they met)
wuneng's an asshole most of the time, will try to make tripitaka recite the spell on sun just to get back at him
I wanna roast him for being a jerk
also flirts with women and gluttonous
wujing's the gentle and quiet sibling
Also the tired younger brother
Sun's a great dad to his little monkeys
he's actually a smart ass but his impulsiveness always gets in the way of his thinking
also cares so much about tripitaka and is very protective of him
Sun's the care taker of the group and mostly holds the braincell if he isn't being impulsive
he got banished TWICE
first one's because of wuneng, second is tripitaka got really angry at him for killing thieves and was done with it
Sun geniunely cried several times whenever he found it very difficult to save his master and when his brothers would also get caught
It hurts me seeing him dejected and crying (I cried)
In sun's perspective, wuneng is tripitaka's favorite (it hurts, really)
basically, sun threatens everyone except tripitaka, wujing and the horse
wuneng is not an exception to his threats
I really love it when sun speaks softly and gently to certain people, especially to tripitaka and his monkeys (his children ^w^)
I know ya'll are aware about this but imma say it again WUKONG IS SMOL
Like boii, the demons would always underestimate him for being less than four feet tall
he hates being called "banhorseplague" and "ape" for some reason
imma add this, tripitaka's kind of a cry baby snsjsn I'm sorry
sun's great at making strategic plans, most of the time, he would know what to do in a difficult situation
sun's sneaky especially when he's up for some mischief
the only thing he's afraid of is the tight-fillet spell, the spell that shrinks the circlet and makes his head ache af
Sun's very relatable too jssnsns I really love this monkie man
Also, it's painful to know that tripitaka would mostly believe whatever wuneng would say instead of sun
Sun knows the difference between a real human and a demon pretending to be human because of his eyes
He proved it several times
I'm glad tripitaka believed him as the story progressed
Also, the horse is there, he doesn't do much action stuff though
I'm not spoiling anything about the events happening in the novel or what happened to them at the end. Just read it, coz it's worth it. I mainly read the book for Sun and I didn't regret it.
Snsnsns I would love to watch a flashback episode featuring them and one of the things that happened in their journey in LEGO Monkie Kid. Would be so coolll

chinese mythology AU: journey to the west
so i’m sure you’ve all at least somewhat heard of this one before. journey to the west, monkey king, etc. etc. etc. well, i suppose it’s time for me to desecrate another perfectly well-written piece of chinese mythology with my own mess of characters and plot. but well, it’s been rehashed so many times in popular media, can’t hurt to do another one. wait, you know what. i realised that i should just call this a chinese mythology parody series. but okay, fine, it’s kinda long. ignoring that. moving on!
basically, the general gist of journey to the west is that this man, a monk named Tang Xuan Zhang / Tripitaka, goes on a journey to retrieve some Buddhist scriptures and on the way, picks up a bunch of followers like the Sun Wu Kong/ Monkey King, Zhu Ba Jie / Pigsy, and Sha Wu Jing / Sandy. once again, this drabble is fresh out of the chaos of my sleep-deprived mind and is pretty much unedited, it is once again long (3.7k words like howww). and stupid (y’all know me). and basically, if you just want a quick / semi-fun read, you can just check this out. the rest of the snippet will be below the cut, and any quick explanations will come after the snippet. enjoy (hopefully)!
i mean, come on guys. did you actually expect some action and monster-fighting?? or even a proper ending?? please you think too highly of me. and of course everything revolves around food. life is food.
ALSO. some clarifications / notes:
shou is tang xuanzhang / tripitaka, and it is known that monsters want to eat tripitaka’s flesh in the series itself because his flesh is said to give them immortality.
jun is sun wukong / monkey king. he’s a character who’s known to have angered the gods and the jade emperor and basically he’s offended a lot of people. and the jade emperor has this garden with a bunch of peach trees that, when eaten, would grant a person immortality, and sun wukong ate it, so yea. (also, why is immortality so popular? seriously. i wouldn’t want to be immortal) oh right he’s meant to be really strong too.
lu is obviously zhu bajie / pigsy. he’s this immortal who was cast down to become a mortal, but something went wrong and he became this half-pig half-human thing instead. and also he’s known to be very greedy about food and women (but yknow, lu doesn’t have the second aspect)
ren is sha wujing / sandy, and well, he was made to look like a monster because he offended some important people (which is where, yknow, the part of jun calling him a monster comes in). also, as some of you might already know, ren means ‘person’ in chinese, so there’s the pun/joke there as well. some people also consider sha wujing to be a minor character, and that’s why lu talks about him being unimportant to the cast. i guess. poor ren.
zhen is just, well, zhen. not based off of anyone in the journey to the west series. poor girl.
there are also some named characters who never appeared in the series! so, the jade emperor’s chinese name is Yu Huang Da Di, and his ‘Yu’ is the exact same ‘Yu’ as Yu (f). so she’s meant to represent him, but since she’s a girl, i changed it to jade empress
Teng is obviously mentioned. he’s the monster. that’s all. not based off of anything again. actually, now that i think about it, i’d probably put him as niu mo wang / bull demon king (?). i don’t know why. i just feel like he is.
so yup! there it is! tagging my tag list (ask to be in / out): @cabaretofwords @inked-waves @latechickadee @kidsarentallwrite @insearchof-solace @kaigods @inkpot-dreamer @pen-for-sword

OH SHIT, YOU’RE RIGHT
Journey to the West AU where every rendition and adaption of journey to the west exists in the same universe. Buddha who holds the universe/s in his palm throws the pilgrims into the same world. The pilgrims from 1592, 1964, 1986, 1996, 1999, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017 are all present - the Tang Monks, Sun Wukongs, Zhu Bajies, Sha Wujings and White Dragons all go to the west concurrently.
It’s now a race to get the scripture.

Camelot Section 1
How to literally just getting yourself fucked over in the first chapter... First map... And first fucking wave too? Choosing the wrong support to get yourself fucked
Yeah, I’ve completed JP of Camelot (FUCK YOU AGAIN, THANK YOU VERY MUCH), so what the fuck did I do wrong? Simple, choosing Da Vinci-chan all because I wanted something to kill the Soul Eaters...
By the time I’m here to face this enforcer knight, all of them are definitely crying for healing... Liz died unfortunately, so this how to screw on the first map
But second one with the sphinx... I’m so thankful of that friend support who put Kaleidoscope CE on Francis! Instant NP and wipe the whole of Chimera before any of them come killing my Servants
At least this is better than the first one of fucking myself from that mistake. Francis NP and Jeanne’s own NP to protect save from Sphinx’s full charged attack
On towards the next map, this was tricky, especially the hundred persona... Though I’m confused between Hundred Persona and Serenity... At least this chapter gave me a reminder Hundred Persona actually can charge her NP
Survivable with YOLO since I’m throwing Xuanzhang-chan at her 2nd Ancesion to fight them
Though once Nitocris wakes up... And decidedly misunderstand what the crew did for her... Three round of her mirror and finally herself.
I do know her last wave she does NP, but I never went after the first two which is her mirror. In JP, I cleared them both immediately before she hits full, so does the mirror do NP damage or no?
^And above is the outcome of her third wave... Wipe my whole team out leaving Herc and Mary together. Though Herc did the killing at the end...
But the last arrow with Sphinx was okay too, since was mostly firing both Mary and Francis NP at her. And again also, using Jeanne NP to block the Sphinx full charge attack.
I’ll continue on with Chapter 2 tomorrow since real life work is calling me to have early rest...
#fgo#fate grand order#camelot singularity#the shit i shit myself into#i mean#i went through this already in JP#but fucked myself on the first map#this is going to be interesting subsequently#camelot NA

#Cultivate👩🏫 #MenteSana🧠 #EstarBienconAnnHw #ImpulsateAEmprender https://www.instagram.com/p/CMA4KVSB6JbN1PYkBKa358hobiM6ZJ0l6GAvaw0/?igshid=1ni34w3glj9mb

Here are some notes on Buddhism’s history in Korea, as will be applied to Haewonmaek and the Along With The Gods: The Two Worlds lore, since it’s reincarnation principles sit alongside the blend of shamanism and Buddhism in Korean religion.
Buddhism’s establishment is closely related to ideas held in Hinduism, a religion that regards the individual’s role in society as highly important, and stresses the ideas reflected by traditional Korean shamanism, such as humanity and community. Though only numbering around three of the nine concepts of Korean Shamanism[1], as , they are some of the most important, and will remain that way throughout Korea’s history. Buddhism was first introduced in 372 A.D, in the reign of King Sosurim of Goguryeo, and became officially recognized by King Pophong in 527 A.D; however the religion would not become as powerful as it would be until the rule of Queen Seondeok in the mid-600s A.D. With the influence of scholars from Tang China, such as Wonhyo, who remains one of the most-cited Korean Buddhist monks to this day, the monarch of pre-unified Silla began to erect glorious temples, encouraged the study of Buddhism, and, with the subsequent unification of the peninsula, brought about the induction of Buddhism as not only a cultural, but also political power. Buddhism became not only a philosophical study for young scholars, but, with the indoctrination of more Zen principles, then became a level of status in Korean Joseon society.
So, basically, what I’m saying here is that Buddhism became easily adopted in Korea not only because of its scholarly importance (since it came from Tang China, and was affected by Taoism and scholars such as Lao Tzu and Xuanzhang), but also for its humanist principles that lined up with shamanism fairly well.

The Śūraṅgama Sūtra is indeed the culmination of mercy. It’s no wonder why ancient Hindus saw this scripture as the greatest in their country. Even Master Xuanzhang missed out on such a work in India.
Pramiti suffered greatly when bringing the scripture to China. Every time he tried to enter without permission, he always got caught by the guards and punished.
Without alternatives, he transcribed the scripture in tiny words, sliced his arms, hid it in his flesh, and then sealed it with a needle. That was how the Śūraṅgama Sūtra was brought over. What an uneasy task!
The Hindus did not cherish their Dharma. All the scriptures can be shared, but not the Śūraṅgama Sūtra. It’s a treasure of their kingdom. They hid it in secret, and only their kinds can read it. Today, their Dharma was no more, and that comes from the karma of not cherishing it. This is the warning to us all!

Just watched Wandering;Agateram
BEDI MY LOVE pt.1
The 6th singularity where Jerusalem has been hijacked by Camelot and Chaldea has to fight against the Knights of the Round Table.
I did read Camelot some years ago. Half because it is widely praised as a good chapter and a great political thriller. Half because, ahem, BEDIVERE.
Have I ever mentioned that I love Arash and Bedi's friendship so much? Even with their different dispositions and all, the my-NP-is-incredibly-detrimental-to-myself bond is thick. And Arash himself is a total bro so, yeah.
Idk but in-game and in-movie, I feel like if you don't know what Arash's NP is and then you witness it, everything he says in the chapter suddenly hits different. And if you already know, well, *weeps*
That said, they cut a lot of characters interactions. I know, screen time limitation. But there are so many memorable scenes that I still remember. Like Mordred paying a 'friendly visit' to the village and revealing a lot of unsettling truths about the Lion King's actions. And the parts where knights are on-screen openly more ruthless and horrendous than in the movie. Also the repeating bits of the knights noticing a familiar existence within Mash. Oh, and where Arash and Bedi roast Mordred.
I feel like I already love Cursed Arm in the first half of the game story but in the movie, he's more like a background character waiting to be important.
Regardless of the existing reasons, I will forever be salty that Hundred Faces and Touta are not here.
Now I know why they move visiting the Sun Kingdom to the middle part of the story instead of the other way around. Cuz there is no Touta to make the rain of food. Or an explanation why Xuanzhang would survive all alone in the desert.
I AM ROBBED OF THE OZY DECAPITATION SCENE.
Basically this suffers a lot of the classic problems of a movie adaptation. The character chemistry built by repeating and slow-paced interactions can't be replicated in movies due to screen times. So maybe movie-only people will get the important parts, but not necessarily what makes it deep. Personally, I think Xuanzhang gets impacted a lot from this.
Seems like there are a lot of fade-to-black and fade-to-next-frame transitions.
It has less focus on background details than I'd expect a Fate movie would have. I surely didn't come expecting the calibers of ufotable here, but I did expect a bunch of, idk, some overly detailed buildings and wildly animated hair movement in windy deserts. At times this makes some scenes feel plain. But on an otherwise emotional or contemplative scene, it does give some sense of solemnity.
Although on the later part, there are some details, like in signature places like Ozy's pyramid, Lion King's throne, the harsh mountains that hid the mountain village. Now those are more detailed.
This has been my pet peeve since the game. The scene where the Chaldean crew sneak into the Holy Selection would've been more convincing if they actually wear disguises. Like, Mash and Da Vinci feel reaally standing out wearing those outfits in the middle east, where there are even extras wearing burqas. Ritsuka too, but at least he's got hoods. While Babylonia anime has Mash tying some shawl on her waist and looks more blending with everyone there.
Wow Ozy your house has a LOT of stairs.
I don't remember if it was a bathing scene but I appreciate that they keep the scene of Nitocris being soft and enjoying her chat with Mash. *sobbing* STELLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have I listened to Dokuhaku 200 times before this? Yes. Am I gonna listen it again in the credit? Hell yes.
Tl;dr This is actually Arash's movie

For those curious about this MobPuz event and who’s whom
This is the Journey to the West Vs Event It’s based on a popular folktale called Journey to the West in English. It’s a Chinese folktale that interestingly is well known all over Asia from Indonesia to Korea (proof of the Chinese diaspora and presence or one time presence over Asia ) JTTW is about a monk XuanZhang who Journeys westward from China to India to collect Buddhist scripture and is thought to have historical basis The other characters, Sandy, Pigsy and Monkey were added later. So what’s going on?
who or why are the MobPuz characters cast as a particular character from the folktale?
Basically Sun WuKong or Monkey is XuanZhang’s disciple which reflects the master disciple relationship between Reigen and Mob. The tale also focuses a lot on these two. Sun WuKong is insanely powerful as well in the tale just like Mob. Hence Reigen being cast as XuanZhang and Mob as Sun WuKong
Shou and Teru are the next two obvious ones. Shou was a villain in the anime, part of Claw, and so he is given the role of Bull Demon King who was one of the major antagonist in the early parts of the folk tale.
Teru, poor child, is cast as Sandy or Sha WuJing. Sandy is known to be less than intelligent and partially bald in the tale. I imagine the bald part is why Teru got the role. Also Sandy compared to Sun WuKong is weaker in fighting and magic and thus considered mediocre. However some people do think Sandy is the glue that holds the group together and is patient and dedicated.
Ritsu is the only one I have not figured out though. He is cast as Zhu BaJie who is typically seen as greedy, lazy and a womaniser
I can only suppose that it’s because Zhu BaJie is somewhat softhearted and also provides some of the comic relief in the story like Ritsu when he was trying spoon bending. Oh and Zhu BaJie’s weapon is a magic rake...

Hwayugi: Irreverent, but…
I grew up with The Chinese Odyssey – the original “Journey to the West” which Hwayugi is loosely based on. In Journey, Wukong is rescued by Xuanzhang from his mountain prison, similar to Oh-gong. And Wukong is forced to join Xuanzhang on his journey to retrieve the scriptures from India thanks to the metal headband that he was tricked to wear – again, similar to Oh-gong’s situation.
