My cynical ass being introduced to the obvious hetero love interest in Raven of the Inner Palace. Like.

Gaojun: As emperor, I want you to be my actual consort for realsies. Shouxue: Ew no. Me: Alright, here we go. He's going to get pushier and pushier until she inexplicably decides it's charming and-- Gaojun: My bad. I will literally never bring it up again for the rest of the season. Me: Wait. What. Gaojun: Also I've taken efforts to flatten the power imbalance that exists between us so that we can engage with one another as equals. Me: Hang on. Gaojun: Now that we're able to meet on equal footing, would you be willing to be my friend? I'm not asking for any strings attached or promises of anything more, and also I don't fully understand what being friends means, but I would like it if we could learn together. Me: OH MY GOD.

And now I want to have his fucking babies. Are you kidding me with this guy!?

Hooooooly shit. The show is actually putting in the work to make him likable and give us legitimate reasons to root for these two characters getting together. Other media's just like, "Uh, he's a guy, why wouldn't you want him to get his dick wet with the Most Waifu in the series?" but both Gaojun personally and his relationship with Shouxue are being handled with so much care to make this guy likable.

I just.

I know it's probably because it's shoujo so the shoe is on the other foot (trying to write men as desirable husbandos instead of writing women as desirable waifus). This guy is the Chinese inspired but Japanese written equivalent of a Disney Prince. But. Still. I just. This hits so different. It hits so different.

Men, what is stopping you from putting this much effort into your male protagonists?

So since there aren't any Kokyu no Karasu/Raven of the inner palace fics anywhere and that's BLASPHEMOUS, I started writing some one-shots revolving around Shouxue/Jusetsu and her friendship with Jiujiu and the tongue-less sweet lady (can't remember her name, I'm horrible).

Also except some Shouxue/Jusetsu and Gaojun/Koushun BROTP + Wei Qing/Eisei being in love with his master

AND Shouxue/Jusetsu x Wen Ying/Onkei, because they're my OTP.

In the Raven of the Inner Palace we learn that originally the gods wanted a summer and winter king always on the throne.

The Raven is the winter king.

Emperor Xia Gaojun is the new summer king.

Truly he's trying build a better more forward thinking system then his predecessors.

Which another difference between him and the other Emperor.

Just like here.

And a time before he asks to stay

More out of not wanting to be alone like a child.

And unlike predecessors who would have had all evidence and persons killed and destroyed for daring to consider more then one king he choices a different path.

Again very luke has to do with him not being brought up in the politics to be hardened to death and the people rel needs rather then his.

And major difference between The Apothecary Diaries and Raven of the Inner Palace is the Emperor show of true power.

In the Apothecary Diaries the Emperor is the word of the heaven the gods.

To disobey or even displease him will be your head.

"You're quite famous. Apothecary. Lady Lihua is still very ill. 'I would like you to try and save her.'"

MaoMao elaborates this message as save or lose your head.

Which is probably true.

Unsuspecting personnel spotted by this man and your already half way to execution .

Just depends on what your answer are.

We rarely see him to if we are anywhere near this man people will die in that scene.

He's very arrogant and picky about his courtsans.

Like at one point the new one he didn't even stick around cause she was dressed up differently each time he came.

Now then, The show the Raven in the Inner Palace starts nit with her but with the new incoming Emperor.

Who has a sense of justice about him.

Like you can tell between the two animes who actually read a true historic book on the Emperor and who glanced at it and then went more fantasy or fly by shots then reality.

Like Shouxue can't stand the Emperor visiting her.

Definitely doesn't want his requests.

Any other she kind and sympathetic.

He starts starting when that first sentence she pissed and actually get negative and sarcastic to him.

In the Apothecary Diaries it would haven been grounds for beheading aline insulting the Emperor.

The biggest to do with this one versus The Apothecary Diaries is he was not brought up as Emperor.

His mother was killed and the Empress Doweger disinherited him and locked him away commiting numerous atrocities against the country and palace court.

Mei Jing even goes straight at her about how she talks to the Emperor.

But likes he's the only one unlike in the Apothecary Diaries.

The Emperor in The Apothecary Diaries was raised to be Emperor.

He knows his stats his rights.

He's not looking to change them at all he is God.

The highest authority and will use it.
