Xerox 8010 Star Information System via The National Museum of American History:
The Xerox 8010 Star had a number of "firsts" associated with it -- -first system to include a mouse, -first employ a graphical user interface where the user navigated by clicking icons rather than typing commands, and -first to incorporate folders, file servers, and email.
It also cost $16,595 in 1981 for "a single workstation which included the basic software." Which, adjusting for inflation, is now $56,305.61.

Welp, after having been on my watch list for years, I finally got around to watching Felidae, and I've noticed something interesting about the feline death cult in the film.
Joker's chanting throughout the initial scene of the Claudandus sect reminded me a lot of some of the televangelists I've seen over the years, especially the prosperity gospel variety and Pentacostal church services in terms of the tone.
Probably was more an additional nuance added into the English dub, but I thought that was a rather interesting detail adding to the whole thing.
As for the movie as a whole, I'm honestly speechless, it's quite good. The pacing was a bit fast as far as transitions between scenes go, but other than that, pretty good. DEFINITELY not for the faint of heart tho, there's blood and gore and depictions of unethical animal experimentation and cat mating (and the creators kinda did their homework on that part and the final fight scene in terms of cat behavior). If you're not comfortable with that sort of stuff, give this one a skip.

A Galaxy of Possibilities - Xerox Star & Daybreak
Tumblr media
Let’s have a look at the very first commercial computer with a graphical user interface, called Xerox Star, which was the successor of the Xerox Alto! What did its marvelous GUI look like? Was it ground-breaking and easy to use as we’d expect? Or, perhaps, was it too ahead of its time? Well then, let’s find out!

The last good computer.
I sometimes boot up Pharo to see what the future could have been
*question*: is there a modern interlisp equivalent?
