Tried my hand at making some Rubbermon, inspired by @squeakitties! I couldn't decide on a main sona, so I made three variants, each now partially a Sona and partially an OC.

Tandemaus is Daemon and Evie, a coupled plural pair who used to inhabit one body. An experimental procedure, they each are made of half a body, and half cybernetics. They're always together, with their hands permanently fused holding the others'. They use they/them pronouns, and are switches exclusive to each other. Their favourite activities are being in nature, finding other Tandemaus to cohabit with, and enjoying their company. They live in a treehouse together in the forest, only venturing out into town to go on walks together and meet up with friends.

Alcremie is Angel, xe/xem, a Sub, who lives and works in a bakery with xyr human baker partners. They work with other Rubbermon friends, mostly helping with small jobs of cleaning, tidying, decorating, and packaging baked goods. Xe is very shy, but likes to socialize and give hugs, and when not at the bakery, xe likes to out to bookshops and libraries to spend time reading and cuddling on soft chairs.

Miraidon is Nate, and despite appearances is a Dom. He uses he/him, and lives a very free lifestyle. His main hobby is giving rides to friends, partners, and strangers. He's always available and happy to bring people to where they need to go, no matter the distance. When he's not giving someone a ride, he takes long drives from city to city, enjoying the countryside path, and taking in all the different sights. He's been known to take deliveries as well, always happy to help out with whatever people need. As long as he's on the road, he feels at home.

just learned that prismatic-bell uses xe/xir/xirs but not xem. i've edited the post to reflect this. explaining here because i don't want to derail the actual purpose of the post, which is to point out misinformation and genocide-denying rhetoric.

it was not on purpose. the xe pronoun set has variations that include xir as the possessive case and xem as the objective/accusative case (see this page). i wasn't aware of other variants that don't include 'xem' in the set.

prismatic-bell's blog description only lists xe and xir with no description or example of usage. it did not specify whether xir is the objective and/or possessive case.

also i can't believe i got called a tankie for pointing out that the 'proportionate for urban warfare' argument was so poorly made that xe ended up implying russia is doing a better job of mass murdering people than israel.

october 2nd 2024: some code stuff

preacher: the original idea behind "APRIL" was that she would be able to pull up word strings from the templeOS god word app on command – this was supposed to be her primary/only function.

we're going to put up a post on templeOS later because it's completely fascinating and i've been obsessed with it for a while, but for now what's important to know is that due to some decompiler issues, it's not really possible to run templeOS on the raspberry pi which is the computer that we are using. scott's here to explain this at length – find a detailed technical explanation below the cut.

scott: Initially I was gonna start coding the whole program in Python starting with the godword random prophecy function. But then after looking into how the original godword program worked on the og TempleOS worked, with FIFO (First-in-First-out) queues, of which I was pretty unfamiliar with, I decided to code the bulk in C because I know C a lot more than Python and the queues seemed easier to implement in C. Pi allows both Python and C coding languages naturally anyways so why not.

The original TempleOS was written in a variation of the C/C++ language called HolyC by Terry A. Davis who wrote the language variant and compiler himself. Because of this, it's hard to decompile it manually to look at source code, or to run it on certain machines. Because of this I couldn't run the actual godword program or TempleOS on the raspberry pi so I knew I was gonna have to recreate the godword function as close as I could (which I initially called "heresyword" lol). After some research, I found one of the only breakdowns of how TempleOS worked by Xe Iaso [1].* They have such a good breakdown of the whole operating system thats really context inclusive and even includes extracts from Terry Davis' actual comments on how TempleOS works which are really hard to interpret actually. * (preacher: btw, i highly recommend everyone read this link. it really does a great job of explaining everything and once again, templeOS is endlessly fascinating so i think it's really worth the read. see the picture below for an example)

So from Xe's blog I found that TempleOS has a public global class called "God" that is used in several areas of the operating system. For godword it loads all words from the database Happy.txt into a separate array and then uses random entropy bits from several areas, including an "internal microsecond stopwatch" and data form keypresses, to choose random words from the word variable and loads them into a FIFO queue, printing them one by one when needed. I was initially gonna recreate this FIFO queue and all these random entropy bits but decided it to be too much complicated work for little result so just decided to generate random words from the Happy.txt using the cpu clock for entropy and save them to a separate .txt file to be called and read later on, acting in place of the queue system.

Sidenote: Xe's blog also had the Happy.txt file which was really useful and which I also realised was just every single word from the King James Bible.

these are whiptails, they're funky goobers i made for the worldbuilding project i haven't done anything with in. so long. they were made a while ago, which you can definitely see in their designs (nightmare variant, the emphasis on blood, etc. etc.), though i've tweaked them more since then so y'know. i still think they're neat

uhhh basic facts, they're full of 'blood' (who knows what it really is), no bones or organs (except for the last one which has growths resembling bones for an in-lore unknown reason), and they communicate with their feelers and by emitting different scents depending on the situation. when they die, they give off no scent at all, unless the body is damaged, in which case they smell like their blood

^ common variant (represented here by catch), these are essentially the 'everything else' category. their names function the same way. they are where the 'whiptail' name comes from. common variant ocs include: catch (she/they), sandstone (it/they), rook (mirror pronouns), rail (he/she), vervain (they/them), rose (he/xe/thicket), thrift (click/clicks/clickself)

^ aquatic variant (represented here by blue), these guys live in bodies of water, though some can go on land as well. their names can come from anything aquatic or amphibious, as well concepts related to these things. aquatic variant ocs include: blue (she/her), newt (they/them), pale (vey/vem), pike (xe/thon), pochard (hy/hymn), aythya (mist/fog/smoke/soot), cormorant (color pronouns), golden (she/em), bream (he/it), frost (it/its), swan (it/they),

^ venomous variant (represented here by hornet), can be found pretty much anywhere (though finding them underwater or in cold environments is fairly rare). surprisingly, tend to be much bigger than most of the other variants. names can come from things that are venomous, sting, commonly associated with venom, spicy, or concepts related to venom. venomous variant ocs include: hornet (he/him + ze/mer), paprika (cy/cyr)

^ poisonous variant (represented here by slug), the smallest of all the variants. tend to be very colorful and prefer more humid environments with plenty of hiding places. named after things that are poisonous, associated with poison, or concepts related to poison in some way. poisonous variant ocs include: slug (she/he/they)

^ dream variant (represented here by laburnum), vary wildly in size, very rare but can be found anywhere. named after things associated with dreams, mythological figures/things related to mythology, and certain plants and animals (ex. doves, crabs, flowers, bright plants, etc.) dream variant ocs include: laburnum (zhe/it)

^ nightmare variant (represented here by nyx), the largest/tallest of all the variants. tend to prefer dark, misty, or heavily forested environments. fairly rare, though its certainly not due to being easy prey. no one entirely knows how their life cycle works- or if they even have one. they're the oldest variant, so for all anyone knows, the ones around today are the same as the first ones to come into being. look spooky but tend to actually be very sweet. names come from anything with a generally negative association (bugs, rats, certain birds, darkness, nighttime, cobwebs, etc. etc.) nightmare variant ocs include: nyx (it/its)

last night I was hit with sudden inspiration to work on kinda spec-bio creatures for worldbuilding and ended up creating this little guy

it's a Lacoglide (from lacerta (lizard), colubra (snake) and glide) and acts like you took gulls and cats and put them together.

they are smart little terrors, very popular housepets too, and know how much they can get away with <3

there are also wild variants of them, this art just depicts one that's kept as a pet.

xir little name is Pest and xe really lives up to that name by being a little terror to biology students and occasionally also xir owner, the head zoology professor.
