"Rose," Orlo begins fretfully, "do not give Nadia too many sweeties, it may upset the belly while pleasing the palate."

A Mothers Love @xa-silent-voicex
She moved into the sitting room of the apartment, spying her little one sitting on the couch. Nearby Scurl sat on his perch, also watching the little one with curious eyes. Gemina was careful to make a wide turn around the couch so she could come completely into view before kneeling down, grinning at her daughter.
‘Are you feeling okay today, my dear?’ The vampire signed easily while peaking at what Oaklynn had been doing. ‘I have to go on a trip for business. Would you like to come with?’ Typically, Gemina would leave the child with a friend she could trust, but Shawna was out of town. Besides -- it would be a good opportunity for the girl to make it out and around, instead of being hoarded inside where Gemina often kept her in her paranoia.

“Darling, my sweet Snowdrop, whatever is wrong?”
Orlo drops to his knees before his charge and swiftly signs the question, searching her distraught face for a clear index of her ailment.

In he bustles, the coveted Count, spectacles removed and resting on the paperwork he carries, as he reads the written stack of court crises for immediate review, mumbling curses that range in severity from “bother” to “fuck.”
Orlo pauses between Elizabeth and Nadia without noticing either, so buried is his nose in these pressing tasks. The unnatural silence, however, dawns, and he looks up, expression caged.
    “I say, what . . . . oh, Elizabeth, you’ve . . . . ! You’ve surely discovered the newest addition to my . . . ahhhh there she is.”
He deposits the papers on his desk and hunkers down before the child.
“Don’t be afraid, snowdrop, this is,” and he signs, friend. “My friend. Come here, I’m sorry. I have been away too long today.”
He collects Nadia into his arms and drops kisses onto her cheeks and nose.

“Come, let us say hello,” he breathes.

Gem Steven took the time to read her reply. He smiled back, writing back.
"Alright. I guess you can't be lost when you know where you are." He paused before adding, "Yea, Lion's a sweetheart, you can pet him if you like, he loves getting scratches behind the ears."

A short series of foster homes has been Oaklynn's home longer than any other, ever since an elderly couple found the abandoned car on the side of a road just beyond the city. Doors were still flung open, the child still strapped in her car seat, face red and tear-stained as she tried to escape the harness. There had been no one else at the scene until the police found the bodies of her mother and brother in the woods beyond.
But now it was time to leave.
At five years old, Oaklynn packs her kindergarten backpack with everything she thinks she might need - her toothbrush, a set of pajamas and a spare set of day clothes, a favorite book, and as many snacks as she had been able to procure until now. Her favorite toys - those that had come from parents she was beginning to forget - are shoved down into the pockets of her jacket.
She is entirely overlooked as she makes her way through the streets of her small town and walks along the empty road that leads away from it. For three days she continues her escape until she finally reaches the next city over: Beach City.
As she stops next to the 'Welcome to Beach City' sign, her eyes widen at the strange scenery of Little Homeworld and the temple in the distance.

Mother's Day Starter for @ofstrangevariety
----
Oaklynn does not clearly remember her last Mother's Day and she has no one else here to remind her of the day, or to guide her through giving Gemina a gift. So, it is completely by accident that Oaklynn walks up to Gemina that night, only moments before her day is due to come to a close, and presents her with a completely coincidental gift.
She presents to the woman a piece of pink construction paper covered in multicolor crayon scribbles. Adorning it are stickers of hearts and flowers and animals - some flat, some puffy, some rough with glitter.
Tumblr media
"I made this for you," she signs. "You like it?"
The vampire had been resting on the edge of her own bed, overlooking some paperwork for the shop that resided below their apartment when Oaklynn had approached her. As always she’d put her papers down to smile at her, attentive as she had been since the moment the child had been placed in her care. When presented with the piece of paper her smile vanished, however, as her face entirely softened. Gemina hummed softly as she nodded, glancing at Oaklynn to catch the way her hands moved before reaching out to gently stroke her chin. “More than you know, my little one..” She sighed once she pulled her hand back. “Which one is your favorite? I like this one..” Gemina pointed to one of the glittery animals, uncaring how it flaked off and sprinkled onto her carpet.

Lion was quietly watching her gaze fixed on himself. He walked toward her and sniffed at her softly and kneeled down to show he was passive.
Gem Steven chuckled a bit. "I guess Lion got your attention more than I do..." He gently pet Lion's head. "You can pet him if you'd like. He's well trained."

Gem Steven watched her sign with a confused expression. He had seen his brother, Steven use his hands to communicate before, but he also learned to help a kid at school feel welcome. He never retained the knowledge himself after they fused into Steven Squared.
His gaze fell to the ground before he got an idea. He summoned a can and a book from his gem. He pointed to the can, then to her then picked up the book to imitate reading.

Gem Steven smiled and took the book, and flipped to a clean page, he wrote out in messy but legiable English letters. Some letters being written upside down or backwards due to Gem Steven's lack of a complete need for hand writing.
"Hi. My name's Steven, I'm a Pink Diamond of the gem race. (That's kinda like a prince... kinda... ) This is my pet lion, Lion. Welcome to Beach City... are you traveling alone? Did you get lost? Do you need any help at all?"
"Also sorry about my penmanship, I'm used to writing in Gem glyph. I could probably communicate better through speech to text since it'd be a lot clearer."

Gem Steven was out on a walk with his pet lion, Lion. He was talking with Lion to vent about the past in a secluded area so no one would have to worry about him.
Over their walk they had started getting to the sign that greeted people into the city. He paused in his tracks, seeing the small girl, dirty, alone, standing nearly in the middle of the road mesmerized by the look of little homeschool and the temple in the distance. He sees a car on its way into the city and he rushed over to make sure she was safe and not about to get hurt.
"Hey there." He spoked. "It's-it's not really safe out here on the side of the highway like this... Are you ok? Are you lost?"
