Qui gon is set up in the phantom menace as kind of the pinnacle of what republic Era jedis are supposed to be like; if Luke is a rejection of the impartiality that the jedi council invoked upon their members, partially leading to the descent of Anakin to the darkside (a succinct theme of love and friends being important lest you last out and ruin your relationships), then qui gon, being our first formal introduction to the jedi order, is clearly supposed to represent what a jedi was "supposed" to be like. And throughout the phantom menace, we see him withold any emotional outbursts, remain as stoic as he can to make impartial judgements, weigh the choices of what Should and Shouldn't happen to result in the least damage possible-- monklike , wise, cautious, and compassionate.

So it's just... So unbelievably funny that literally zero of qui gun's decisions make sense in TPM and also he just does things because he doesn't give a shit about anyone. Kid you not, this guy is like "the queen wants her servant to come with you in tattooine" and qui gon goes "it's so dangerous. No way" and the guy goes "she wants to explore", you know, a terrible reason, and qui gon goes "well okay then, come Along" and then proceeds to bet on a child slave and fuck his mother while harboring the gungan despot who directly results in Palpatine coming to power due to his vote in the senate. Qui gon is the funniest character in all of star wars, and he's acted with all the panache of a xannied Liam Neeson. I'm in love witu him.
