"Hurts." Says the Sun.
"I know." Replies the Moon.

Moon can't eat the nightmares this time.
rubs my grimy little rat hands together IT DONE!! ITS BEEN COMPLETED! this has to be one of the biggest projects ive done in a while. but its finally finished!
made this for @sootybunny once upon a dream au/fic. this specific scene was so- mwah heart wrenching. the lines i put down are the ones that hit me the most emotionally so here ya go <3
versions without static and without text will be under the cut
also maybe a bit of rambling :) (also warning for spoilers teehee)
ALSO REBLOGS APPRECIATED
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ill be honest, this was quite the struggle. took me a bit to find the posing and the fucking hands were a pain in the ass. the clothes were also a struggle but quite a big of it was covered by shadows or different body parts so yippee! but despite how i struggled and how i still lowkey dislike certain parts of this drawing im still really proud if it!
but just- this entire au the fic the everything- all got me in a choke hold. i have so many theories about it and so many thoughts but my brain isnt letting me put it in a way thats even mostly coherent so yeah- maybe someday i can reblog this and write down my feelings fully when im not half asleep
but im just loving the apocalyptic setting and how everything is so scary and messed up. the whole "virus" going on with the automatons (which i have my own theories about tho sooty has seen/heard them a bit :]). im also obsessing over moons character. he sees himself as such a monster and it doesnt help that the way hes treated only reinforces it. we see it especially in chapter 3 and OW all of them hurt/pos
but yeah! this was by far my favorite scene in the fic. except maybe that one silly scene where sun gets yoinked and things get a bit goofy and everyone nearly dies :) but thats a close second

Congratulations on your 500 Followers!🎉 Hope you will grow more! I would like to choose the number 1 prompt, "Someone decides to ask you for your opinion about someone, and you decide to take advantage of your anonymity to admit your feelings. For some reason this flusters them."
For Jack, Sebek and Silver please
Tumblr media
1. Someone decides to ask you for your opinion about someone, and you decide to take advantage of your anonymity to admit your feelings. For some reason this flusters them.
Thank you very much friend! I really hope this is to your liking, and I really hope that you continue to find things that entertain you posted to this account.
notes: they/them used for Yuu, mutual pining, I find Jack really hard to write for because of his whole soulmate thing but please know he loves Yuu so fucking much he is in pain, Sebek thinks he's slick, and Silver is oblivious to a lot. The other event requests can be found on my masterlist.

Jack
There is a distressing lack of fluffy tails within your line of sight in the ballroom this evening. A feeling has been growing within you these past few months, similar to a crush but so intense it makes you want to fall over with the strength of your longing. You have no idea if Jack feels the same, he has continued to treat you with the same degree of feigned indifference he's held you at since the day you met.
And now he has left you all alone in the middle of a ballroom full of people that very much aren't him. Well that's how you feel it's not like you made any sort of concrete agreement to meet up beyond the typical first year friend group "hey let's all get together" texts that always populated your group chat when the school hosted events like this. You suppose your feet were always going to hurt at an event like this, but you had been hopeful that your heart wouldn't ache as well.
"Come here often?" A strange strangled voice asks, clearly trying to break the ice and not at all serious. You are both leaning against a pillar after all.
"Not really." Your stomach is still firmly in your throat, this person is massive and you see no sign of the comforting ears and tail of a wolf. "You?"
"Nope." And though neither of you make much a move to keep the conversation moving, you don't move to leave either despite the growing awkward aura around you both. You look out across the ballroom, eyes drawn towards Leona desperately searching for a sign. Your strange new friend takes note, he also seems to be looking at Leona. "Not afraid of staring are, you?"
"Is that what it looks like?" You ask slightly distressed.
"Most people just tuck tail and run when they see Savanaclaw." He almost sounds disgusted, but you can't quite tell with who. "I'm surprised you can stand to look."
"I've got good friends in Savanaclaw." You huff. Sure there's a chance this guy doesn't mean anything by what he's saying, but this is NRC. There is a much bigger chance that he does.
"Oh? Like who, Jack Howl?" This bitch-
"No." You cross your arms. "Friends don't make you want to explode."
"... I'm sorry?" The strange man apologizes, and it really does sound like he means it if the way he's scratching the back of his head is anything to go by. Unfortunately you have been sitting on these stupid feelings all night and really need them out in front of someone who isn't Grim, seven knows he doesn't care.
"Seriously like- wolf beastmen have only one soulmate? Forever? So it doesn't matter how I feel I just- never have a chance like ever. Ever ever ever, he's just always going to see me as some annoying hanger on- well maybe not annoying because I actually put in an effort you know?" The captive audience doesn't nod but that's ok, you just keep charging on. "And I know he appreciates that because his tail wags every time one of us do and it's so cute to watch."
"'m not cute."
"But that just doesn't matter he's got somebody already he just hasn't met them yet and I don't even know the right music to try and get rid of my feelings to. It's not like I can just ask him out and hope rejection will make the feelings go away because there is just no way he would be like in anyway nice about it-"
"What if you were that person though?" The stranger's voice is so strangled it's almost recognizable, and it successfully snaps you out of your stupor.
"But I'm not." You want to scream it, but it comes out so very quietly. "He was really clear about that, he'd just know."
"I'm stupid. I mean he is. Stupid. And you're human, maybe the feeling's different because there's a chance for rejection. It's not like humans always have soul mates." A dull silence falls over you both. Unease working it's pesky way back into both of your minds.
Not all humans have soul mates, but you most certainly do. Just... give him a moment, a ball is not his scene. But later when you're all alone, traipsing your way through the woods towards that lonely cottage there will be a wolf primed to strike. Just why did he ever worry Jack wonders, glad for the mask hiding his grin, he knew he only needed to be lucky once.
Sebek
"Just what is your opinion on Malleus anyway?" Sebek tells himself he is asking you this for safety reasons. It's a question he has asked you before, just louder and with force enough to "blow down a barn door" to quote Epel, but this damn mask had a mockingly fitting enchantment that pitched his voice down and quieted it the more he tried yelling. He almost sounded like he was impersonating Jade, something that would likely deeply amuse the strange upperclassmen and seems to have a soothing effect on you. Not that he was jealous!
"Tsunotarou and I are bros." Yuu puts up what Master Lilia had told him was a "peace sign" and "extremely cute" but makes him seethe with rage and actual jealousy, not whatever that sickening feeling he'd had before was.
"You are not." The mask makes his dull roar sound like a middle aged mother gleefully scolding her friend for buying a particularly saucy pair of heels and not the justified rage of a royal retainer. "If you are bros just what does that make you to his retainers hmmmm?" That makes Yuu falter for some reason, mouth moving before the words are fully formed like they are considering hiding something.
That scares him. Because it compromises his lord's safety. Obviously.
"Well, I think Lilia's super cool." An objectively true statement human. A bit sparse on the praise but then what use would Master Lilia have for a human's praise? It would be better spent on him anyway. "He's really smart and happy to talk about what he knows, even if he lies about things sometimes, gotta have fun with yourself sometimes I guess. Silver is a bit dense, but he tries so hard you have to respect him for it." Again Sebek finds himself agreeing with Yuu, but the praise stings for some reason. It's minimal, but he supposes Yuu's avoidance of addressing the issue- not that they are he supposes, they may have stopped speaking but he doesn't think they intend to not give an opinion about him.
"And Sebek?" But he prods for it anyway because he wants it. He knows himself, he is not exactly ashamed of himself but Sebek knows you would never tell him the full truth of your opinion to his face. He can't even call Yuu by their name, why should they-
Sigh, like a besotted Princess in a fairy tale, play with the edges of their cape like a Prince questioning his propriety in voicing his desires but unable to swallow their emotion-
"He's really something else." You mean it, not that you are too sure why you feel like telling this stranger your deepest secret or why you chose to phrase it like a complaint. But the compliment suits Sebek like that you think. And the stranger doesn't stop you. "Knights are sort of out of fashion where I'm from but I've always liked them, and Sebek's the perfect image of one you know? I just wish there was some room in his heart for someone other than Malleus... not that I think his devotion's a bad thing y'know? I just- want to be treasured by a knight too."
"Just a knight?" The stranger asks. "Silver's there too I suppose."
"Nah he's not really my type." You shrug. "I like my guys a little pathetic. Look-" You barely notice the familiar way the stranger splutters as you bow to signal your exit. "I gotta go get Grim before he lights the place on fire, if you see Sebek tell him I'm looking for him? I want to dance with him at least once I just know he's good at it." And with that they're gone leaving an extremely competent and not at all pathetic thank you very much! Flustered mess of a man behind them.
Silver
"Oh hello Prefect." You have no idea who this student is but it is not unusual for people to know who you are given everything that's happened at this stupid school since you accidentally enrolled. "Nice to see you are enjoying yourself, the rolls are really good." And he is not judging you for the amount of bread you have in front of you so as far as you are concerned he can stay.
"They really are." You nod sagely, offering your new friend some of your hoard which he happily accepts as you both turn towards the ballroom to people watch. "I shouldn't be surprised at how good the food is, but somehow I always am." The stranger nods ruefully.
"I know what you mean. After eating so much of fa- Lillia's cooking you forget what things are supposed to taste like sometimes." Oh so this guy is in Diasomnia then? You'll have to compliment Tsunotarou later, this guy is super polite.
"Yeah I can see that, it makes feel bad for Silver sometimes what with how close those two are." You continue munch on your bread, too caught up in the fluffiness of it to notice how the "stranger" pauses, a thought forming in his mind he is sure to regret later but is unable to fully resist.
To long is human, which he is, painfully so.
"Do you think about Silver often?" He hopes he sounds playful, you fluster, looking the man up and down wondering if maybe Lilia has decided to alter his appearance to tease you some.
"More often than I should." Even if this is Lilia, it's not like anyone can really mock you for this can you? It's a Masquerade Ball, you're allowed to spill your guts to a stranger and reasonably expect nothing to come of it. Hell, just because this guy's in Diasomnia doesn't mean he'll say anything. "He's hard to ignore you know?"
"Not really." Silver picks at the bread, half hoping you will drop the topic, half agonizing about how to feel if you do. "He... doesn't have the best reputation in our dorm. People think he's too intense."
"Hmmm." You can see why, people who lack facial expressions often find themselves failing to express their intent. "That doesn't bother me." Oh he could practically soar, his whole body straightens in pride when you say that. "Silver is one of the few people I feel truly safe and... well sometimes I feel cherished around him. But I don't want to put pressure on him since we aren't even really friends I don't think."
"Why wouldn't you be?" He is deeply confused, he knows Lilia's advice is always coached in jokes but Silver didn't think the flowers he asked his animal friends to find would hinder his progress too badly. You were even wearing them tonight, it was how he found you, so it's not like you hated them... right? "I- He cares about you, I mean you know that right?"
"Maybe." Is all you say, eyes looking for someone in the crowd that's sat right next to you oh so painfully unaware- "But if I said I liked him would he even know what I meant? Would he still want to be friends... if..."
"Of course he would." Silver means it, but somehow he feels like he is missing something. The weight of your hand maybe, as you leave the "stranger" in search of... well he hopes "Silver" because if he knew you loved him, because he thinks that was what you meant maybe he wouldn't want to be just friends.
Best friends maybe? He'll have to ask Li- his father later.

Days in the sun - Walter Deville x Reader - P4
Tumblr media Tumblr media

The rest of that afternoon was spent with Evie and (y/n), I had to hide my smile behind my hand as I chatted with Evie, (y/n) was practically ignoring us for the book I had given her. Her eyes were completely glued to the pages, almost forgetting there was food in front of her as Evie and I talked about her stay so far and how exactly she had been found by Oliver.
“Seriously you put a book in front of her and she goes into her own dimension,” Eive chuckled, waving her hand in front of (y/n)’s face, (y/n) not even glancing up, flipping another page of the princess bride. I couldn't help my grin, laughing quietly as (y/n) finally looked up, only to grab a strawberry and then go back to the book.
“Are we boring or something?” I asked Evie, scrunching my nose as she shrugged, sticking a fork into her salad. “Compared to the book-probably” Evie mumbled, reaching out and tapping the top of the book down, (y/n) pouting at Evie once her face was revealed. “Do you mind? I'm invested.” (y/n) grumbled, making Evie and I laugh as she went back to the book.
I snorted softly, licking my lips as I pushed my finished plate aside, one of my servants quickly taking it away and to the kitchens. “So, how exactly did you and (y/n) meet?” I asked, (y/n) had given me some insight into their friendship, but I don’t recall if she had told me the details. Evie hummed, giving me a knowing look as she rested her elbows on the table.
“Well, we met about four years ago, we were both working at a gig, and we got along pretty well. I heard her talking to herself about using that night's tips to get herself a hotel room that night, and well-I offered her a place to stay for a little bit-at least till she got back on her feet.” Evie explained, (y/n) glancing up to smile at her and joining in on the conversation “I told her she didn’t have to, I was a practical stranger, but she insisted-and four years later-here we are~” (y/n) sang, I couldn’t help but laugh, gods I had missed her so much.
“Here we are,” Evie hummed, stealing a strawberry from (y/n) as she went to reach for one, giving her a smirk of victory as (y/n) glared/pouted at Evie. “There is an entire bowl of strawberries right in front of you, and you go for the ones on my plate? For shame Eve” (y/n) hissed playfully, stealing a crouton off Evie’s plate and making a loud crunch noise as she ate it. I laughed as Evie gasped like (y/n) had insulted her mother, her hand on her chest while her mouth gaped open.
“Please, no cat fights at lunch.” I joked, taking my ‘strawberry’ lemonade and taking a long sip, shaking my head as (y/n) rolled her eyes and gave a dramatic flair of her hand as she spoke-Evie almost cackling as she did. “As the lord commands~”
Fuck I had missed her so much. And I really loved this developed sarcastic/funny side to her, she had been sarcastic before, and never failed to make me laugh-but the way she spoke now just sent butterflies through my stomach.
(y/n) went back to the book as Evie and I continued to talk, she eventually asked about the non-existent Cecile Deville, correctly assuming I would be related to her-but unfortunately, she didn’t exist. I did my best to create a sudden lie about my ‘niece’-not really expecting Evie to ask about the false Deville. I could feel (y/n)’s eyes on me, and I could tell she knew I was lying, but she didn’t say anything; just going back to her book.
Soon enough my attention was called away, and I had to hold back a sigh; wanting to spend more time around (y/n). “Well, have a good afternoon ladies, I’ll see you later.” I chanced a glance at (y/n), smiling as I saw her already looking at me, a small smile on her lips. ‘see you’ she mouthed, going back to her book as Evie turned to her, chatting away as I walked back into the manor, Mr. Fields stepping closer to me.
“Good afternoon sir, the dresses you ordered for Lady Alexander have been delivered” I hummed with a nod, taking the small stack of papers he handed to me and heading towards my study. “Good, have the cocktail dress delivered to her room, and the other two to my room for now, ” I muttered, pausing for a moment as I remembered (y/n)s plight. “oh, I have one more to order for tomorrow night, once it’s here, deliver it to lady Godkin’s room.” I muttered, continuing on as Mr. Field paused, wondering who lady Godkin was.
“Godkin, sir?” I froze, oh shit-I hadn’t realized, licking my lips slightly as I turned back to my butler, just glad I hadn’t called her by her married name. “Yes, (y/n) Godkin.” he actually looked surprised to hear her name connected to the last. “Make sure her dress is delivered to her room upon arrival.” He just slowly nodded, hiding his frown as I turned away and went into my study, sitting at my desk and getting back to work.
While I did that, I made sure to call one of my younger servants, the one who had helped me order Evie’s dresses(since I wasn’t exactly tech savvy) and ordered (y/n)’s cocktail dress, my mouth watering as I imagined her in that sleek black gown, her leg peeking out from the fabric.
Fuck I needed to calm down…and a cold shower. I let out a long breath, forcing the image from my mind and getting back to work, soon perking up as someone knocked on my door. “Come in,” I said aloud, just in case it wasn’t one of my wives-but I could smell Lucy’s perfume from here.
She stepped inside, her bright blonde hair pulled back in a small ponytail, two locks of hair framing her face. “Ah, Lucy.” I stood, making my way around the desk and leaning against the front, nodding at my youngest wife. “Is something wrong?” she shook her head, glancing back at the door before smiling at me. “I was just wondering, who Evelyn’s friend is? I know this morning Viktoria asked about her, and you were….iffy about it, but I was hoping you might give me better insight without her around.” I just hummed, crossing my arms, wondering how to explain (y/n) to Lucy.
I couldn’t tell her the truth exactly, while I did trust her, I didn’t trust her enough to not accidentally spill to Viktoria-who wouldn’t hesitate on destroying (y/n), even if it meant her death. I settled on a half-truth, “She is connected to my family, a Godkin actually-the original heirs to the Deville fortune,” Lucy looked genuinely surprised to hear that, and I held up my hands to prevent any gossip from her. “Do not mention this to anyone, including (y/n), she has no recollection of her past, she has severe memory loss and I fear any mention of-well, anything-without immense care, could hurt her.” Lucy slowly nodded, not expecting my explanation but looking satisfied all the same.
Then she perked up, another question coming to mind. “Another thing, what is our story to Evelyn?” I corrected her mindlessly. “Evie,” Lucy easily corrected herself. “Evie, just so none of us cross stories and such.” I let out a low hum, crossing my arms, telling her of Cecile Deville and Marvin Alexander, and their wedding on Sunday, they would be arriving on Saturday night, for the rehearsal dinner.
“Try to steer clear of that story however, so there are less lies for us to untangle” I muttered, rubbing my jaw as Lucy nodded. She peeked behind her shoulder and I knew Viktoria was listening in. “Enjoy the rest of your day Lucy, there should be a new shipment of blueberries coming later today as well” Lucy beamed at the mention of her favorite fruit and nodded, squeezing my arm before she left the room, her short ponytail bobbing as she skipped out; closing the door behind her.
I hummed to myself, remembering I had made an order of shrimp along with that, a smirk coming to my lips. Evie had dinner with her family tonight and while I was sure (y/n) was invited to eat with them being Evie’s +1, I hoped she would accept my invitation for her to dine with me tonight, cooking was something I had always liked doing for her, even when I barely had any ingredients to cook.
I snorted at the thought of my cooking bringing back a memory, and got back to work, a smile on my face at the thought of my (y/n).
-
Several hours later, I was finally done; I had several last-minute meetings with a few people from the one, one being something about needing approval to edit their terrain for better water tunnels. Another about their livestock being attacked and needing funds to hire animal control and new fencing. I approved both, knowing their farms were a direct source for me, the one needing the terrain being my fruit distributor.
By the time I finished, it was starting to get dark, the sun slowly drawing its curtains as cooks bustled down in the kitchens, getting food ready for the Alexander family dinner. I sniffed, ruffling my hair as I stood from my desk and made my way to my room, needing to change out of my clothes after being in pinching shoes all day.
I grabbed a dark teal Henley shirt, pulling it over my head and rolling up the sleeves slightly, changing into some dark trousers and some comfy shoes. I perked up as I hear my butler begin to hiss at someone, freezing as I heard my beloved almost squeak back in fear.
Oh no he fucking didn’t. not on my watch. I threw my door open, storming down the hall to make the short path towards my personal kitchen, where I saw Mr. Field with his back to me, glaring down at my (y/n) with a vile tone to his voice. “No one is to enter his personal kitchens. Especially not someone like you,”
I didn’t hold my fangs back, my eyes flashing dangerously as I snarled out my butler's name, a fierce protectiveness in my chest as I saw him whirl around to look at me; his eyes wide with sudden fear. “What are you doing!?” I quickly stepped between (y/n) and Fields, glaring down at my butler, who had quickly and unfortunately signed his pink slip. “I told you not to treat my guests so harshly!” I had mentioned this twice now, to be nice to Evie and (y/n), especially (y/n). You’d think calling her by her last would turn some cogs in his brain but apparently not.
“I was told your personal rooms were not to be intruded on!” Mr. Fields tried to defend himself, he was right, I had told him my rooms were for only me unless someone had permission, and I had permitted both Evie and (y/n) the night before. I just shook my finger in his face, as if he was a toddler throwing a tantrum. “And I gave them, Evie and (y/n), access to my kitchen, personally! If I hear you talk to them, especially (y/n), this way again; I will have you forcibly removed from this manor! I don’t care how many years you’ve served this family.” I hissed you, grabbing (y/n)’s hand and pulling her into the room, forcing myself to calm down as I slammed the door shut, running my hands through my hair and forcing my fangs to retreat.
I took several deep breaths, covering my face as (y/n) stood a few feet away from me, thankfully not scared of me and my sudden anger. I had to control myself, I had to keep myself from ripping Fields limb from limb. I would not tolerate the way he treated my (y/n), it was a sin to even think such a way of her. I took one more deep breath, turning to look at (y/n), my anger dissipating as I looked into her eyes. “I’m so sorry (y/n),” I said with a wince, rubbing the back of my head as she tilted her head at me, clutching the book to her chest. Heh-she was still reading it after I gave it to her this morning. “I told him to treat you and Evie with respect, yet as soon as I turn my back he does,” I flung my hand in his general direction, anger burning in my teeth. “that.”
(y/n) just hummed, tipping her head up at me with that sweet smile of hers. “Thank you, for not letting him continue.” She muttered, tilting her head slightly as I huffed, glaring off in my butler's general direction-I would have an intense talk with him later, if he pulled that bullshit again he was out of this household. I really didn’t give a fuck how loyal he had been to me, no one talked to my (y/n) that way. “He shouldn’t have started in the first place,” I muttered back, ruffling my hair until my bangs were in my eyes, turning back to (y/n) as my shoulders relaxed.
Then it hit me, why was she going to my kitchen in the first place? Weren’t the Alexanders having dinner right about now? I asked her as such, making my point to say she was Evie’s friend, but she just curled in on herself, and I was going to fucking strangle Oliver and Alfred. “They uh-“ she coughed into her first, looking uncomfortable. “-they didn’t have space for me.”
I let out a low grown, almost a demonic growl but I held that part of me back, I didn’t want to scare her. I pinched my nose, muttering curses under my breath as (y/n) looked up at me with an unsure frown. I covered my eyes for a moment, feeling them flash with anger then dropping my hand, licking my teeth. “I’mmmmmm” Going to fucking kill them. “fucking hell.”
Instead of going off to murder the Alexanders, I clapped my hands, rolling up my sleeves as I got to work making the dinner I had planned to make for (y/n) in the first place; but that had been when I didn’t know Oliver was going to be a bitch. “so, I’m gonna guess you’re hungry?” I asked (y/n), who nodded, clutching the book to her chest as she watched me walk around and get things ready, walking back and forth between the stove and fridge.
“Are, are you going to make something for me?” (y/n) asked, completely surprised I was cooking for her, she hadn’t known I had made breakfast that day. I just nodded, getting out a large skillet and a large pot, filling the pot with water, and starting to boil it. “And why not?” I chuckled, turning back to (y/n) with a soft grin. “I haven't eaten yet either, so might as well.” I really didn’t need to eat, but anything to make her feel welcome with me. “besides, it was unfair to you for them to leave you out, so now you get premium service, food made personally by the lord of the manor~.”
I gave her a small mock bow, grinning as she smiled and continued to watch me cook. I got out a pack of frozen shrimp from the freezer and set it in a small running bowl of cold water, letting them thaw out as I got to work making the two sides. (y/n) soon set down the book and washed her hands, I let out a soft chuckle as I heard her. I set the pack of vegetables away from the stovetop and got the pasta out, turning as (y/n) asked me what she could do.
I just rose my brow, smirking down at her as I leaned on the counter. “You can go stand over there,” I nodded back towards her book “and look pretty, which I assure you will take no effort from you. I’m taking care of you tonight.” I enjoyed the rush of blood I heard go to her cheeks, but she just pouted up at me, and if I knew my (y/n)-she wouldn’t step down if it meant helping me, so I chuckled and nodded over to the bowl of now thawed shrimp. “Okay okay, could you please peel the shrimp?”
(y/n) nodded and did as asked, getting right to work and we soon fell into a rhythm, dancing around each other with ease and I felt like nothing had changed, being with my (y/n) and cooking with her, unable to keep the smile off my face. (y/n) began to hum her mother’s song, and I couldn’t help but hum along.
Soon enough everything was done, along the way I had invited (y/n) to taste the sauce I made for the main dish, grinning as her eyes sparkled at the taste. “That’s wonderful” she muttered, holding her hand just under the chin as she licked her lips, clearly wanting more. I just went back to stirring it, making sure the vegetables were seasoned properly and cooked through before beginning to serve up our plates.
“Wine?” I asked, holding up two bottles, one red and one white-both easily paring with our dinner. She pointed at the one in my right hand and I nodded, she had always preferred that one over the other, and set to pouring two glasses, handing one to her and joining her at the counter, where our dinner had been set. “Bon appetit~” I purred, feeling a smile at my eyes as (y/n) happily dove in, nearly moaning as she took her first bite.
"Oh, my gods, this is the best thing I’ve ever had” she muttered, almost rushing to eat as I watched her with fond eyes, good to know my skills hadn't faltered in the last 900 years. She muttered something else under her breath, but I was practically hypnotized by her as she happily ate her food. I averted my eyes as she looked up at me, chuckling as she glanced down at my plate-which I hadn't touched yet. “Good to know my cooking is still good, I haven't done this in a long time.” I took a bite of the pasta and shrimp, nodding to myself. Yep, still got it.
“For a British dude, you sure know your spices” I nearly choked at that, holding a laugh as I looked to (y/n), who seemed to be holding back a laugh of her own as she stared at me with those wonderful eyes of hers-filled with delightful teasing. She let out a giggle as I rolled my eyes and gently pushed her shoulder. “ha-ha, laugh it up,” I chuckled, then paused, a smirk growing on my face. “because it’s true.” she burst into loud laughter, leaning over a bit as I continued to joke about. “We raided the world for their spices only to not use any of them.”
I smiled as (y/n) cackled, setting down her plate as she took a step back from the counter and held her stomach. I could still make her laugh, her wonderful laugh that would finally bless my ears again. Oh gods how I have missed her, and I had no plans of ever letting her drift away again.
When we finished I took her plate and mine-beginning to wash the dishes as (y/n) put the left-overs away, stealing an extra piece of shrimp as she did. She glanced away as I smirked at her from over my shoulder, chuckling as she tipped her head up and away like a puppy caught trying to steal food.
I peeked into the fridge, glancing back at (y/n) as she dried her hands and picked up her book. I took out a can of croissant dough and two chocolate bars; turning to (y/n) with a shy grin on my face, hoping she was in the mood for dessert. I just wanted to spend more time with her. “Dessert?” I asked, my shoulders relaxing as she beamed and nodded, reaching for the croissant dough and popping open the can while I busied myself with the chocolate.
We talked quietly as we waited for the dough to bake, sitting on the counter with our thighs touching. I loved listening to her talk, every word out of her lips was like music from the heavens, she had no regard for what she rambled about, just enjoying her time with me. I wondered if anything from the last hour had brought back any memories for her? I hoped so-I really wanted to kiss her-I wanted her to kiss me till I was breathless.
My eyes drifted to her lips, swallowing as she laughed quietly about some-post- she saw online or whatever. Fuck I really wanted to kiss her.
We were both jumped out of the conversation when the oven screamed at us and I quickly hopped off and put on some oven mitts-taking out the hot tray and letting the croissant cool for a few moments. (y/n) practically stared down the chocolate croissants like they were the only food in the world, her eyes practically sparkling. I laughed, picking one up and handing it to her as I sat on the counter, the tray now between us as (y/n) happily dug into the dessert. “fuck I love chocolate croissants,” She muttered and I couldn’t help but laugh again, grabbing one for myself and letting the chocolate melt on my tongue.
Fuck I forgot how good chocolate was.
We continued to talk; my eyes unable to leave her as she chattered away. Gods I really had missed her so much, we both perked up as Evie stepped into the room, her nose in the air as she took in the smell of chocolate croissants. “Evie~” (y/n) cheered, reaching out for her friend who quickly grabbed her hand and then a croissant. “how was dinner?”
“Boring” Evie groaned and I couldn’t help but laugh, “dinner itself was good but they are painfully white and rich.” She took a bite of the croissant as I hit my chest, nearly choking on my croissant as I laughed. She wasn’t wrong, nearly every one of the three families was boring as shit-it had been the main reason I chose Lucy all those years ago-she was interesting, bubbly and sweet. “god that’s good,” Evie muttered, talking about the croissant. “but yeah-nothing to talk about but marriage, money, n other boring shit like that.”
(y/n) just hummed, happy she hadn’t been a part of any those conversations, thanks to the pettiness of the alexander family-and I would be having a word with them about purposefully excluding Evie’s friend. “Sounds so exciting,” I said sarcastically, smiling down at (y/n) as she pushed my shoulder. Evie glanced between the two of us, and I had to stop myself from holding her stare-she knew there was more to the story, but (y/n) would be the one to discover it- it would be far too much for Evie to handle.
“So what have you two been doing for the last two hours?” Evie teased, giggling as (y/n) kicked her thigh, pouting at her friend as Evie continued to laugh. “I made her dinner” I started, chuckling at the look of surprise on Evie’s face, as if she didn’t think I could cook. Which-I could, and I was a damn good cook. “and then we both made these” I gestured to the croissants, then shrugged-there wasn’t much more to the story. “just…hanging out I suppose.”
“suppose,” (y/n) giggled to Evie, who laughed at my ‘eloquent’ words, I rolled my eyes with a fond smile, taking another croissant from the tray and taking a bite, hopping from the counter and started to pack up the leftover croissants. “Well, I have some things to attend to,” I handed the bag to (y/n), who happily took it and tilted her head at me. Gods I just wanted to take her face and kiss her. “enjoy your evening ladies.” I said instead, bowing out and biting my lip as I heard Evie tease (y/n) with their friend over the phone.
I saw Ms. Swift exit (y/n)’s room as I made my way into mine, nodding as she informed me (y/n)’s cocktail dress had been delivered. “thank you, Ms. Swift,” I muttered, closing my door behind me and sighing, rolling my shoulders back as I went back to my paperwork.
Later, I heard a small muffled scream come from (y/n)’s room, and as I went to check on her-I heard her mutter some frustrations to herself, talking about how she shouldn’t be thinking about me that way-I was her dead lover's brother after all. I smiled sadly. “oh darling,” I whispered, reaching up to clutch her ring that still hung around my neck. “I cannot wait for the moment I can hold you again.”
-
Viktoria curled her lip as she watched Walter and commoner chat away in Walter’s personal kitchen, deep burning hatred in her chest as she watched and heard how Walter so easily laughed and conversed with the woman. Who the hell was she? And how had she captured the master's attention so easily? How could she make him laugh like this when he had hardly spared her a glance within the last 500 years?
She glared you down as you slept through the night, wondering how much trouble you were worth as she thought about ripping your throat out.
-end of p4-
Oh wowie-it’s been a while huh? Sorry for the long wait after p3~ but I just got super fixated on other shit lol. But yeah-more Walter~~~

1 for WWA (but it can't be that song >:)), 5, 10, and 19!
Oh and I hope you're hydrating <3
The heat persists but so do I!
1. Share a song that makes you think of Who We Are
Easy! "I'm Your Man" by Mitski fits really well, especially if you look at it from Dottore's perspective.
"Once Upon a Dream" by Lana Del Rey, which inspired WWA! I was listening to the song one day when I suddenly thought, "what if Dottore made a segment of a friend who has already passed?" It was supposed to be just a one shot but I thought it would be such a waste if I didn't make something more out of it :) (WWA was also supposed to be titled OUAD lmao)
5. What's a fic idea you've had that you will never write?
Years ago I wanted to write a Childe x Reader fic in a medieval au. I don't remember the details anymore but I had an entire playlist prepared. What I do remember is that it was angsty and would end in betrayal and mcd lmao
10. Is there a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?
Not really...? Though I'm always shocked to find that people on ao3 like my bsd one shots considering they're some of my weakest fics
19. Give us a small teaser from one of your WIPs.
This is from a cainlane smut fic that I've yet to finish writing </3
“You commit one sin whilst seeking absolution from another.”
She could hear the words that he didn’t say: “have you no shame?”

⇜ once upon a dream ⇝
this time, doyun dropped the toaster oven.
of course, he called jj, makeshift repairman of his dorm, to come over and fix it. how he dropped the toaster oven is a complete mystery to him. sometimes jj asks a lot of questions, but when it comes to how doyun broke something, he doesn't anymore. instead, he fixes it as requested, then usually ends up hanging around for a while later doing nothing in particular.
especially if suhwan is home, like today.
he and suhwan have known each other for a while, apparently, but he can say that about a lot of people. for the fall of seaside and the ensuing war being so brutal by all accounts he's heard, there sure are a lot of people in this agency that remember him from before it did.
suhwan is different though, in that he's known him for a while that he can remember, too. well, it's been a year; he met lots of people he still sees often in his early days at meia, or upon returning to meia-- whatever. he thinks suhwan can understand him a little better though, because they endured the medical wing together, and the confusion of coming home after a while away. suhwan kept his memories, and just ran away when seaside fell. jj...well, he still doesn't know what he did yet.
he survived the fall of seaside. he knows that. he was there at the beginning of meia's rebuild, but no one knows what happened to him, and even after a year in the agency, he is no closer to knowing than he was the first day he arrived.
even after a year in the agency it's still just as frustrating as it was the first day he arrived, too. part of why he agreed to come to meia was the belief that it might help him learn something about himself and his memories, but that hasn't been the case. he's learned other things, so he guesses that's fine, but sometimes he still wonders if he would've been better off if he stayed out there. they're all doomed to die anyway, right? so what does it matter?
then he reminds himself that if he didn't come to meia he wouldn't be able to watch game of thrones. and he also wouldn't have met suhwan, but game of thrones is what's most important.
he sits in a chair in suhwan's room now, leaned back, staring up at the ceiling as he tosses a hand-made hacky sack up in the air over and over.
he thinks about the day he met suhwan in the med wing, and how he wanted to crawl out of his skin. the tiles and the white coats and the needles and pills. he told juhyuk once-- that the med wing weirded him out. juhyuk told him he was always fine with it before.
sometimes that haunts him, just like the recurring dreams he has, and it's always in his head, whether it's at the forefront or in the background. what does it mean? what does it mean? he still doesn't know if they're memories or just some weird consistent metaphorical manifestation of some subconscious fear.
it's not every night. he has different dreams, but one is so frequent: the one where he's in a white room staring at a door, full of dread. he can hear muffled voices on the other side, see movement  in the small crack under the door. they are right there, and he is always so terrified, but he always wakes up before they come in.
it used to be a terrifying nightmare. he would wake up with his heartbeat pounding in his ears, struggling to breathe. now, it's happened so many times that he usually just wakes up frustrated. if he just stayed in the dream a little longer, maybe he would know who was on the other side of that door. he doesn't care how bad it is anymore; he doesn't care that dream jj probably has good reason to feel terror so strong it makes him shake. he wants to know.
he throws the hacky sack in the air again. "hey suhwan. do you ever get like...weird dreams? or just...dreams that keep coming back?"

THIRD POV
[CH 3 All I’ve Ever Known]
~ And now my memory seems to be failing me
         What once was fantasy is all I've ever known ~
Escaping with Loki, taking his hand and joining his unknown master-plan, was perhaps the most exciting and frightening thing Y/N had done. It was something she chose to do out of her own will, despite knowing damn well it wasn’t the right thing to do. Helping a prisoner escape? Aiding him in something that S.H.I.E.L.D. viewed as a threat? It was so wrong, but it felt so right.
Perhaps the unlawfulness and rebellious side of it all was what excited her so much. She knew that she was closer to getting the answers she had only dreamt of hearing for so long. Finally, it was her time to shine.
Loki wasn’t a fool. He knew exactly what had to be done in order for them to escape unnoticed -- for now. The Hulk was free and the Avengers were too busy trying to calm the raging beast down, so they didn’t have time to think about Loki or Y/N. Not really. The thought of asking for her help certainly didn’t cross their mind.
And when they eventually would come to notice that someone was missing, it would be too late.
              As they escaped the massive helicallier, there wasn’t much time to propose questions. They both had one thing on mind, and it was the get out of there as fast as possible.
Watching from the side as Loki used the powerful sceptre to take control over people’s minds was haunting. He didn’t look proud of as he turned the pilots into his puppets, but it was necessary. The entire time from the moment they left the helicarrier and eventually ended up in the city of New York felt like a heartbeat. One moment she had been working with the Avengers so she could gain her freedom, and now she stood by Loki’s side and she felt as free as a bird. It all happened incredibly fast.
“Why are we here?” Y/N wasn’t sure if she had spoken until now. Everything was a haze in her overwhelmed mind.
Loki had been determined to get them on the Stark tower. It stood proud between the other skyscrapers and from up above, they could see the city as far as their eyes would let them. It stretched so far that it was difficult to believe it was real. In every building there were people, the streets were full of cars and it was loud. But not loud enough to disturb them so high up above the ground. It was almost peaceful.
“It’s the perfect place for the plan,” Loki answered quite vaguely. Earlier, when they had been alone, he had been quite sweet and well focused on her. Right now, he avoided her gaze and failed to stay still for a few seconds. It was clear that he was on edge, but she didn’t know why.
Was it the plan?
What was he doing anyway?
“Mind telling me about it?” Y/N felt like she was playing with fire. But at the end of the day, she had risked everything to join him. In her mind, she deserved to know. Perhaps, she could help him fulfill this plan of his.
Loki stilled. He wasn’t proud of what he had to do, but he couldn’t stop now. Even if he wanted it to stop, he wasn’t sure if his body would comply. There were invisible strings attached to him and when he tried to fight it, he felt lost and helpless. Those terrible feelings reminded him of what his life had been recently, ever since he let go of the spear and fell off the Bifrost bridge. In his mind, death would’ve been more merciful than the destiny that followed.
If he didn’t do as planned, he feared he would return to the world of raw pain. Or worse, that Y/N would take his seat in the torturous hell and he would be in the audience. She might’ve not remembered him, but Loki remembered everything.
“Are you okay?” She noticed that her question pained him.
“I will be,” Loki faked a smile, hoping that it would relieve her. He knew how stubborn she could be, or how stubborn she had been before. He wondered if he could distract her from his plan by mentioning their past? The thought alone made his heart ache. It felt so wrong to make her remember them when he was going to break her all over again. Surely, she’d hate him for what he was about to do.
They had time to spare as they waited for the earthly doctor to deliver the final piece to the massive puzzle. Loki put down the sceptre, and when his skin lost touch with it, he felt more relaxed immediately. He faced Y/N who had been following him closely. They stood inside the penthouse where they were sheltered from everything, even if it was only for a brief moment. It was warm, and the place smelled clean. Could he notice the trace of wine lingering in the air?
“I believe it’s time for me to hold up to my end of the bargain,” Loki skillfully geared the conversation away from the big plan to the past. It almost hurt to see the ray of hope shining in her eyes.
“Really?” She sounded excited.
Loki gestured for her to take a seat on the couch. If he was in her shoes, he would’ve needed a seat. “It’s a long story.”
They sat down beside each other, which reminded Y/N much of her previous dream. Only this time, Loki was the Loki she knew, not the romantic man who had kissed her tears away. Her heart was beating faster as time passed and she could feel it drumming against her rib cage. This was it. The moment she had waited for for so long.
“You are not who you think you are. This place,” Loki pointed out of the window, vaguely gesturing at the realm of Midgard, “This realm isn’t your home. You come from Asgard,” Loki finally poured some truth in the mixture of lies she had bathed in.
She was Asgardian?
The thought of being from another planet was absurd. It made her lose her breath and she felt small, rather vulnerable. It was unbelievable. If anyone else had told her she wasn’t even from planet Earth, she might’ve laughed it off. But this was someone who knew her. It made sense that she wasn’t even human, yet hearing it was strange. Her skin felt cold and she was trapped. Did it mean she had a family as far away as on Asgard? A past? A vivid life where she once knew joy?
Loki recognized the look on her face. It hadn’t been too long since he had felt like her too. When he discovered his whole life was not but a lie, that he belonged to a race he was raised to hate. It hurt.
In a desperate attempt to comfort her, Loki gently took her hand in his. It had been too long since he had felt her skin against his, and he wished sincerely that it would spark a memory in her of their shared past.
“We knew each other,” Y/N mumbled, trying to hold onto flashes of memories that passed her mind but to no avail. “How?”
How could Loki ever begin to explain to her what they had? It was so deep-rooted that he was sure there weren’t words good enough to describe what they had. That’s when he remembered something. He turned her hand so her palm faced the ceiling and they could both see it clearly. Carefully, he put his own palm above hers.
“Have you heard of soulmates?” Loki wondered. By now, he wasn’t a threat or an intimidating enemy of people. He seemed like a nervous man who was about to confess his feelings to someone.
She had heard of soulmates in her dreams. “I have,” Y/N admitted carefully, wondering if they truly were soulmates. It seemed crazy, like something out of a storybook. But it would also explain quite many things.
“This might be a lot, but hear me out,” Loki began tracing his fingertips on her skin, running them on her palm which made goosebumps rise on her skin. How could some who fought so harshly be this gentle?
“I was told from a very young age, that soulmates are two people who are carved from the same branch of the tree of life. From the very beginning, they have been connected. They share the same star,” He explained it with passion in his voice. His hand stilled above hers. When he turned his palm up and placed it next to hers, he revealed something new.
A pattern had appeared on their palms that Y/N had never seen before. They were identical. A star constellation that shone on their skins. She noticed nine stars, but only seven of them shone brightly. The two others were dull compared to the rest. Nevertheless, their palms resembled puddles of magic as the constellations moved ever so slightly. The sight of the stars moving in sync was astonishing. They were beautiful. So many questions began to run circles in her mind.
“I suppose to answer your question, we’re soulmates. But it has never been quite that simple. Yes, we were lucky to be born and alive at the same time, but life challenged us.”
“What do you mean?” Y/N furrowed her eyebrows and faced him worriedly. She swore she saw suffering deep in his expression. Facing Loki and knowing they were soulmates was like looking at him through new lenses. She wished they had the time and the peace to talk things through with time and consideration. But reality was a painful weight on her shoulders. Although they were like this now, it wouldn’t last long.
“I’ll tell you more of it eventually. To keep a long story short, when Odin found out about us, he wasn’t too pleased. He made it very clear that we weren’t supposed to stay in touch, but,” He paused for a moment as a genuine smile spread on his face, “we never listened to him.”
Loki used his magic to paint a fuller picture. He turned their reality into an illusion so they no longer were in the Stark penthouse. Instead, they were on Asgard. It was a place from his deepest memories, from the time he was younger. Asgard looked as great as ever. The streets were full of people, the sun was shining above their heads and it smelled like fresh bread. There was a bakery nearby.
Y/N watched in awe as she took in the surroundings. She could remember this place, and she wasn’t sure how. It made her feel at home and safe.
“Your parents owned a bakery in Asgard,” Loki broke the silence. He stood up and so did she, keeping the distance between them short. If she didn’t know any better, she would’ve believed him if he said they had teleported to Asgard. It looked so real.
She wasn’t sure what to say. As Loki began walking towards the bakery where the lovely scent came from, she followed. The next thing she knew, they were looking in through the wide window.
Inside they could see a small family. Once Y/N saw their faces, she recognized them. The woman with the warm smile and orange dress was her mother. She was beautiful, and joy and kindness radiated from her. Beside her, by the oven where bread was being made was a shorter man. He wore an apron and he looked delighted. His voice was deep, although she couldn’t make out what he was saying. Deep down, Y/N knew it was her father.
The next person she saw was herself, but she was much younger. She watched as her child self ran in through the door to greet her parents with a hug. Although she hardly remembered anything of her past, she somehow knew exactly what happened next. She told them about her school day, and then she tasted the new bread her parents had made. She was the one who named it and they sold the bread as ‘sun bread´.
It was a bittersweet thing to witness. There had truly been a time when she had been this happy and full of life. She had a family that loved her. Her heart swelled in her chest and she missed that. Where were they now? Did they know she was alive?
“A few years after this, you welcomed a little brother into your family,” Loki let her enjoy the memory for a little longer until he changed it. Suddenly, the bakery was gone. They were at a healer’s place. The only light in the room came from behind the curtains. Despite the dim lighting, they saw well. There was a bed in the middle and the same faces were there.
Y/N’s mother was holding a crying baby in her arms, as Y/N and her father walked in to greet them.
Loki didn’t have to say it. Y/N already knew that this was when their family was complete. It was just the four of them but they were content and delighted.
A memory sparked deep in her mind and it sent shivers down her spine. “That’s Vragi,” She remembered her baby brother’s name. By now, she had tears in her eyes. How could she have forgotten about them?
To hear her say his name surprised Loki. He knew that showing her visions of her past would jog her memory, but he hadn’t expected her to recover any memories so fast. Nevertheless, it made him happy. That was a wonderful sign.
“Yes,” Loki confirmed that she was indeed correct. “He grew up to be a guard at the palace. I believe he’s still doing well,” He wanted her to know that her brother was still alive. What she didn’t know was that he believed she was dead. Vragi had turned bitter for a while after he learned how the palace treated his sister, but he hadn’t been able to afford losing his job. Loki wondered how he was doing now.
“What about my parents?” Y/N had to know. She turned to face Loki with curious eyes. Her heart felt heavy as she feared the worst. As long as they would be alive and well, she would be happy.
Loki wasn’t sure how he would tell it to her. Being the bringer of bad news was never fun. “Your mother, she is doing well. She still runs the bakery, as far as I’m aware.”
“And my father?”
She deserved to know the truth. Loki already knew it wouldn’t make her happy, but he was strong enough to tell the story to her. He took a deep breath and faced her directly.
“After you were pronounced dead, he refused to believe the news. He went searching for you beyond Asgard’s borders and no one has seen or heard from him since.”
He was gone.
Y/N’s heart sunk to her stomach and she felt physically ill. Had her father died because of her? How was she supposed to be dead? It didn’t make any sense at all.
The only thing that was clear was her sense of guilt. She wished that her father was alive, but if she would learn he had died while searching for her, she would never forgive herself.
“H-how...how am I dead, Loki? Why do people think I’m dead?!”
He wasn’t entirely sure of how he could explain it to her. Was it all on Odin? Was he the one to be blamed, or had Loki a say in it as well? Did she want to be pronounced dead? There were too many loose threads.
The illusion around them turned dark, until it was pitch black around them. It looked like they had stepped into a void.
“I don’t know,” Loki admitted after a while. “I think that only you know the truth, Y/N.”
How ironic. She was the only one with the key to the past, and she couldn’t remember a damn thing.
Suddenly the elevator doors opened which startled both Loki and Y/N. The dark surroundings around them fractured like glass and eventually vanished into thin air, returning them to the penthouse. Loki was ready to attack whoever entered the penthouse, until he saw who it was and he relaxed his shoulders. Loki let out a breath of relief as he saw Erik Selvig with the briefcase. Quickly, he gave Y/N an apologetic look for having to end their conversation so abruptly. After all, they were just getting started.
“Finally,” Loki took the briefcase from the man and felt thrilled. If only he could use that power by himself. It was a shame where it was going to after this.
“What’s that?” Y/N wanted to know. For the sake of her own sanity, she tried to ignore everything that just happened. It was something that would keep her up at night, and distract her. In order to work with Loki, she had to put it aside. It wasn’t easy, but she had learned to control her mind when needed.
She was right by Loki’s side as he opened it, just to make sure it was still there. When he briefcase opened, their eyes were met by a bright, blue light. It was almost too bright to look at.
“This is the tesseract.”
Y/N was fascinated by it. Not only was it beautiful to look at, but it contained so much energy. She could feel it radiating off it and she wanted to touch it, but didn’t. It contained so much raw power to touching it would probably not be a great idea.
That’s what S.H.I.E.L.D. wanted to find. They were ready to put together a team of people like her just to get their hands on it again. Whatever it was, it must’ve been incredibly powerful and one of its kind.
Loki shut the briefcase and took a deep breath, “I think it’s best if you stay here. We have work to do.” He didn’t want her to see what they were going to do. Besides, there wasn’t much she could do; for now.
The big plan. Y/N had almost forgotten about it as her mind tried to process everything else. For some reason, Loki didn’t want to tell her what it was all about and it made her curious. How bad it could be?
Without wasting any time, Loki and Selvig walked to the balcony together. Loki grabbed the sceptre on his way, and he changed. His spine straightened and he carried himself differently. It’s like all he could focus on was his mission and he didn’t even glance back at her.
By now, Y/N was sure of one thing. The sceptre wasn’t good. Whenever she saw it, people acted strangely. Back on the helicarrier, the avengers had gotten bitter and they fought each other when the sceptre was nearby. Each time Loki held it, his softness vanished.
She was afraid of what was behind all of this. Or who. Who made Loki do this?
Y/N didn’t even notice that she was spiralling into a dark place until it felt like the world was closing in on her. Quickly, before she would make a fool of herself, she hurried into the nearest room. She yanked the door open, only to see a bathroom and it was good enough. As she closed the door and faced her own reflection, her breath stopped somewhere deep in her throat.
She was free
She had a soulmate
She was Asgardian
She had a family, and if her father was dead, it was all her fault...
Although she thought she could handle it all, she learned she had only been lying to herself. Knowing all that was overwhelming and she felt so awfully guilty. Tears were threatening to spill from her eyes and it was difficult to breathe.
“Keep yourself together,” She told herself strictly and tried to take a deep breath. Her body was shaking. It was all so overwhelming and it just had to take a toll on her now, at the worst possible time. When she looked at her palm, the stars had faded. Why were two of the stars dull? Once again, her eyes scanned her reflection on the huge mirror. The outfit she wore didn’t look like her. It was boring and it reminded her of the agents and soldiers who had been her only company for the previous decade. Then she scanned her face, the scars she had, even the one on her neck.
The tracking chip!
How could she have forgotten? There was a chip in her neck that surely led S.H.I.E.L.D. right to them. That was terrible!
“No, no, no, no...” In a panic, she opened the drawers and tried to find something she could use in order to get rid of it. Soon enough, she found a pair of scissors. Although the thought of digging something sharp and cold into her neck was gnarly, the thought of the Avengers showing up there any moment now was worse.
With shaking hands, she went for it. The microchip wasn’t that deep in her neck, and luckily, she knew exactly where it was too. By locating it with her powers, she tried to reach it with one of the blades of the sharp scissors. When it pierced her skin, she let out a series of curse words. It stung a lot, but it was nothing she wasn’t able to endure.
Blood started to pool from the small wound and it ran beneath her shirt, which felt uncomfortable, like wet sleeves after washing your hands. The scissors had done their job and she used tweezers to grab it. The microchip was incredibly tiny and grabbing it wasn’t easy. Blood had made it slick and it didn’t want to be held. Perhaps what was worse than the pain were the sounds. The wound was so close to her ear that she heard everything, making her sick.
Finally, after a battle with the tweezers, she pulled it out. After all those years, it was now on her palm. Despite the pain and the bloody mess she had made, she was happy. Having it out of her neck was just another tiny victory of her freedom. With her super strength, she was able to crush it beyond repair.
                   Loki couldn’t believe he had come so far. The portal opened and a powerful beam shot up at the sky. In a matter of seconds, it cracked a hole into the blue sky and he saw the darkness of the other end of the portal. Although the sight was powerful and captivating, it wasn’t something that eased him. He knew the destruction that would follow from creating the vortex.
Before Y/N could see it and jump to conclusions, he wanted to find her. She deserved to know what was happening, although it was the last thing he wanted to tell her. It all would’ve been so much easier if it had been true all along, that she was gone forever. But she was there, alive and very real. He felt safe leaving Selvig there alone, to keep the portal open.
To see the spacious apartment without her in the middle was concerning. Loki picked up his pace and decided to check the rooms. His mind went to the worst possibility at once. Had she left? Had something happened when he had turned his back on her?
He couldn’t say he felt relieved when he found her on the bathroom floor with her hand pressed against her neck. He saw dry blood all over her skin and she looked like she had been crying.
“I’m so sorry,” Y/N whimpered quietly.
Loki let go of the spear and joined her on the floor in a rush. He was worried for her sake, “what for?”
She raised her hand and revealed the microchip, that was broken by now. “They must know where we are.”
Loki genuinely felt sorry for her. He didn’t wish for her to carry guilt for that. Besides, they would certainly find them now with the portal that was currently pouring an army into the city.
“Y/N, they are bound to find us. It’s alright, it’s going to be alright,” Loki wasn’t sure if he even believed himself. Even if he succeeded and did what Thanos had wanted him to do, there was no guarantee that they would be alright after it all was over. But she didn’t need to hear that right now. She didn’t even know about Thanos.
Loki replaced her bloody hand with his and decided to help. He took a deep breath and focused on magic that was old but well known to him. Healing wounds was essential to someone like him. A green flicker of magic lit the room for a moment. Y/N felt a tingly sensation on her neck as Loki healed the small wound, making it look like it had never been there in the first place.
Now she just felt embarrassed for letting her emotions get the best of her.
“Thank you,” She cleared her throat and avoided Loki’s gaze.
“Are you okay?” Loki wondered. He knew the mindset she was in and it wasn’t healthy. Her entire life was changing and it was something that could break even the strongest of minds.
As Y/N wiped her dried tears away and took a deep breath, she made up her mind. “Yeah, I’m okay. It just got to me for a moment.”
Loki put his hand on her cheek, which made her look right into his eyes. “We’ll make it,” Loki tried to sound sure of it. “Once we finish this, nothing can some in our way.”
“I like the sound of that.”
Despite having no way of predicting the outcome of this battle, she found comfort in his words. That was good enough for the time they had. If only the circumstances were different. Loki would’ve done everything differently, but he had no choice. Time was running out.
“When you walk out of this room, everything will be different,” Loki tried to find a good way to tell her. He helped her back on her feet and for a moment, they stood there just facing each other.
Y/N had a terrible gut feeling.
“My bargain with the person I’m working with isn’t a sight for sore eyes. It’s...something disastrous. But it has to be done,” Loki was careful with his words.
“Loki, who are you working for?” It made no sense to her that someone as powerful as he was doing the dirty work of someone else. Whoever it was, they must’ve been a nightmare.
It was clear that this person made Loki uneasy. He looked scared for a moment, but he tried to mask it with a brave front. “Thanos. There are many words I could use to describe him. But I hope that I can put him in my past once this is all over.”
By now, Y/N couldn’t just stand there anymore. Her curiosity got the best of her as she stormed out of the bathroom, only to look through the large windows in the penthouse. What she saw was like a scene from a movie. The city that looked peaceful yet so busy a moment ago was now full of levitating alien creatures, some were destroying buildings and more of them came out from the sky.
She noticed the portal. The one that the tesseract had created.
“What is going on?” Y/N tried her best to stay calm and think of this from Loki’s perspective. Was there anything he could say or do to justify this? She was in so much shock that she couldn’t even tear her eyes off the sight.
He appeared right behind her and he too watched as chaos unfolded before their eyes. “The Chitauri army is here. In order to free myself from Thanos’ regime, we made a deal. I bring him the tesseract, and in return, I would get my freedom. But in his terms, my freedom is Earth.” As Loki remembered the torture he had gone through, he cringed. He remembered how the Other had threatened him by saying “If you fail if the Tesseract is kept from us, there will be no realm, no barren moon, no crevice where he can't find you. You think you know pain? He will make you long for something as sweet as pain.” They had tortured him for so many moons, and if that wasn’t pain enough, Loki didn’t want to imagine what they had in store for him.
It was conflicting. At times, Loki felt so confident in this plan. He was eager to follow through and become the king he knew he was, that he was born the be. A part of him wanted to succeed so Thor would feel his wrath. Then again, Loki found himself thinking he was doing something terrible, that he had to make it stop. He didn’t really care for humanity or the realm. To rule it wasn’t on the top of the list of his fantasies. Was it too late to turn back now? Possibly. The longer he thought about it, the less he seemed to know of his own needs and desires. He was simply a man with a mission.
Y/N didn’t know any of that. “What happens if you fail?” She genuinely wondered what could be so bad that Loki would do this in order to avoid.
He opened his mouth to speak, but the words got stuck in his throat. Loki wasn’t quite sure, but he knew it was terrible. If he thought the torture he felt through Thanos’ hand was bad enough, then he couldn’t imagine what concoction of terror he had planned for Loki next.
They faced each other. For a moment, in the middle of the havoc that was destroying everything that people knew to be safe and normal, nothing else existed. They both thought about it, about how much better it would’ve been if they had always been by each other’s side. If they had walked down a different path in life, would they be standing there right now?
“I hope you know what you’re doing, Loki,” Y/N knew he wasn’t going to answer her previous question. She truly meant that. She had a hatred for people after what they had done to her, but deep down she knew that not all of them were cruel. Hopefully, Loki’s plan wouldn’t risk too much. She wasn’t going to stop it though.
Both Loki and Y/N noticed a familiar man soaring through the sky, towards them. It was Iron Man, landing on another balcony while keeping direct eye contact with both Loki and Y/N.
The sight of him disarming himself and walking inside sent shivers down Y/N’s spine. She knew that this was only the beginning of something huge.
Loki didn’t want Y/N to get into trouble. Quickly thinking, he wrapped his arm around her waist and kept the other wrapped around the sceptre, holding her so she wouldn’t be able to escape, only as an act. The tip of the spear was pressed against her pulse.
At first, being grabbed by Loki made her flinch. Had he lied to her the entire time? Was he going to hurt her? Then she put the pieces together and realized what was going on. It was all an act.
“Let’s get this over with, shall we?” Loki whispered in her ear from behind. One step at the time they made it toward the bar where Tony was making a drink. How bizarre.
Tony glanced at Y/N, unsure if she was a hostage or an enemy. For now, he couldn’t be sure so he had to assume she was still on their side. having her on the team would be remarkable. Tony had read her report and he knew that it was much better to have her as an ally rather than an enemy.
“Does she really have to suffer so you can succeed with your shenanigans?” Tony wondered, implying that Loki was ready to harm her.
Y/N tried to look afraid. A part of her was genuinely scared, but for entirely other reasons. Her breath was heavy and she was tense as she felt Loki’s touch on her body. It was almost nice if it wasn’t for the situation they were in. She was playing hostage as Iron Man stood before them. He probably had a plan in his mind and they had to be careful.
“Please tell me you’re trying to appeal to my humanity,” Loki mocked him. Right now, his voice was so deep and spiteful. Her back was pressed against his chest and she could feel his deep voice vibrating against her back as he spoke. She swore she could feel his heartbeat as well.
“Uhh, actually no,” Tony looked into Y/N’s eyes, and it seemed like he was trying to read her. It didn’t last long, as he continued his conversation with Loki. “I’m threatening you.”
Loki didn’t seem too impressed. Once again, the power of the sceptre made his only ambition to finish this job. “You should’ve left your armour on for that.”
Tony poured something into a glass and took a sip of the drink, acting as if this was an entirely normal situation. “Perhaps. Would you like a drink?”
“I won’t let her go if that’s your goal. Stalling me won’t help and it certainly won’t save her,” Loki’s words sounded so genuine that if Y/N hadn’t known any better, she would’ve been terrified.
Tony wondered why Loki hadn’t used his mind-bending powers on her yet. The entire hostage situation was strange. Was she more valuable to him without the brainwashing? He wanted to know.
“Are you sure?” Tony tried again. He needed as much time as he could get in order to proceed with his plan.
Loki loosened his grip on her ever so slightly. It would be easy for Y/N to untangle herself from him, but she didn’t need to nor did she want to. She knew that Loki trusted her to act if they met more enemies. She had made up her mind. She was going to stand by his side through the madness that was happening.
“The Chitauri army is here and you’re having a drink,” Loki wondered why the hero wasn’t out there, working with the precious Avengers. The longer Loki held the sceptre, the angrier he grew. The hatred and pain he felt inside turned stronger and it wasn’t good. The more he focused on all the negative feelings within himself, the less he cared about everything else.
“Fighting your army would be easier with her,” Tony looked at Y/N. “And we have to stop you.” He wanted free her from Loki so they could fight side by side. Tony could only dream of that.
“I have an army,” Loki felt the need to make that clear. How could they possibly defeat that?
“We have a Hulk.”
“I thought the beast had wandered off,” Loki admitted and Y/N silently agreed. She too thought they hadn’t possibly contained the raging beast. It certainly surprised her.
Tony’s easygoing attitude shifted. He took one glance at the outside world and suddenly seemed more serious. Was he afraid? Did the Chitauri make him uneasy?
“You’re missing the point. There’s no version of this where you come out at the top,” Tony sounded incredibly sure of himself. It sounded like he wanted piss  Loki off, which was a terrible idea. “Maybe your army comes and maybe it's too much for us, but it's all on you. Because if we can't protect the Earth, you can be damned well sure we'll avenge it!”
Y/N felt Loki’s muscles tense as he grew more furious. Tony’s degrading words reminded him too much of Thor and their so called friends. His grip on the spear tightened and Y/N suddenly didn’t feel as comfortable being wrapped up against him anymore. Tony, with the drink in his hand, walked away from the bar and made his way closer to them. That’s when Loki pointed the sceptre at Tony instead of Y/N.
“One more step and you’ll be busy fighting your friends with her,” Loki threatened Tony.
What did he mean by that?
As soon as the words left Loki’s mouth, he pushed her to the side, rather harmlessly. Then he pushed the tip of the spear against Tony’s chest, right above the spot where his heart was supposed to be. It all happened incredibly fast. Y/N expected to see Tony turn into a mindless toy soldier, but absolutely nothing happened. How was he safe from the power of the sceptre? The sight baffled her.
Tony expected Y/N to rush to his aid. After all, he had hoped she was truly a hostage and that she was by their side. When he stood there and Loki confused over why his powers weren’t working, he knew it; Y/N was now an enemy.
Tony looked disappointed.
“This usually works,” Loki tried to understand how he was immune to such great power. It had never failed him before!
“Performance issues are quite common. I just didn’t think she’d tag along with you, knowing this-” Tony’s witty sentence was cut short when Loki grabbed his throat harshly, nearly crushing his windpipe. Then Loki sent Tony flying across the room. The glass shattered loudly and his drink spilt on the floor. He let out a pained grunt and tried to get up, but Loki was faster. He grabbed Tony’s neck and pulled him up again with ease as if a grown man weighed nothing at all.
Watching their fight unfold was intimidating. It was odd to see Loki so aggressive and angry when he had been so gentle with her. The look on Loki’s face radiated pure wrath. She watched as Loki flung Tony out of the window, just like that. He was falling to his death unless there was a miracle up his sleeve.
Despite siding with Loki, it was a frightening scene. Instinctively she ran toward the now smashed window and she looked down with her eyes wide open. A moment later, something flew right past her, nearly pushing her out of the window as well, and it chased the falling man.
Y/N turned around to look at Loki who was now enveloped in his own bitterness. Once again, the negative energy didn’t radiate from Loki, but the sceptre. It had completely surrounded him.
“Are you okay?” Y/N wanted to know. She kept her distance. Would Loki actually use the sceptre on her? Didn’t he trust her already?
Loki wasn’t sure why she would ask that. The Chitauri army had arrived and they would both be free very soon. Why wouldn’t he be okay?
“You are not doubting me, are you?” Loki wondered. He cared for her, but he couldn’t have her as his enemy. It would ruin everything. Maybe, just maybe he could defeat the other Avengers, but not her.
“No, I just-” She didn’t know what to say. Would he be upset if she pointed out how the sceptre affected him? “I don’t want you to get hurt.”
They were yet again cut off. Iron Man flew up to them and he was as good as new. They didn’t have a chance to wonder how he survived the fall as he shot a beam at Loki.
“No!” Y/N yelled out in surprise, afraid he got hurt. For a moment, she was terrified that he had hurt Loki. Before Tony could hurt him again, she formed energy blasts around her hands. The energy of the sceptre was strong and she was delighted when he learned she could use it to strengthen her own powers.
Tony was startled by the sight of her powers. His weapon was loaded and he was ready to shoot at Loki at any given moment, but he stalled, “You can still join us, Y/N. Whatever he promised you, it’s likely fake. You don’t have to do this.”
“Why would I want to help the people who kept me locked up for years?! You treated me like a villain!” She roared angrily, surprised by the outburst of emotion. Just a moment ago, she was much calmer but now the pain of her past bubbled in her veins. She wanted revenge even if it was the last thing she would achieve.  “Maybe it’s time for me to play the part.”
Loki had gotten up from the ground. Tony’s attack had barely scratched him, but it had taken him by surprise. He was ready to fight Tony, but he was interested in Y/N’s outburst. It came out of nowhere and he saw power in her that he hadn’t seen in a very long time. The energy around her only grew stronger and he knew the impact she would create would be merciless.
“Don’t make me do this,” Tony almost sounded disappointed. Was he upset?
Y/N wasn’t. She unleashed the powerful blast right at him, and Tony was sent off with it, flying far away from them. For a moment, the heavy impact confused him. He was roaming back towards the ground for a while, but he saved himself just in time with the strong jets in his suit. Despite avoiding the impact with the ground, Tony had snapped his neck back so fast that it hurt him. For a moment, he felt incredibly light-headed.
Loki was impressed by this. He could only imagine how satisfying it must’ve been for her to get a taste of revenge on these people.
“That was impressive,” he said it out loud for her to hear. Only then Y/N snapped out of her trance.
She was shocked by her actions, but it was quickly replaced by joy. It felt so good to stand up for herself, even if the way she did it was wrong. “He deserved it,” Was all she could say.
The agent suit she had worn earlier didn’t feel right. Although Y/N barely had any memories of her past, she could imagine Asgardian armour, all the gold and the beautiful, vibrant fabrics. With the help of her magic that she was slowly able to use again, she changed her outfit. The dull and dark skintight outfit was gone and she wore new armour. It resembled Loki’s in many ways, but it had her written all over it. A cape of her favourite colour seemingly grew out of nowhere until it cascaded down her shoulders.
Loki lost his breath for a moment.
How did she recreate it? The last time he had seen her like that was on Asgard well over a century ago.
When she stretched her arms to see the details of the armour and the suit beneath it, she felt delighted. It just felt so right. Everything fit her perfectly and it looked amazing. Then something strange happened. A flash of a memory from long, long ago surprised her.
She saw herself in an unfamiliar place, a tall forest full of people. It smelled of smoke and fire, and the irony scent of blood. She saw many warriors in outfits that resembled what she was wearing. They were at war. In her memory, she was fighting someone on the ground. She had defeated her enemy and when she stood up, she saw Loki who was looking at her. The Loki in her memory seemed proud. He had dirt and blood on his face and his daggers were messy, but he looked just wonderful. It all ended as fast as it had begun.
“I haven’t seen you like that in a very long time,” Loki was the first one to break the silence. When had he walked right up to her?
“What do you mean?”
“Your armour,” Loki glanced at the tiny details on her shoulder blades, “It’s exactly what you wore in battles back in the good old days.”
Even if she didn’t remember everything that happened, it seemed like the knowledge was still in her muscle memory. Somehow she just knew how to change into this gear. It felt so natural.  “Maybe it’s finally coming back?”
“I certainly hope so,” The sincere and kind Loki was back. They were together and they had a mission to complete. “I really do.”
“What are we going to do?” Y/N wondered. It was impossible to forget Tony’s threat. All of the Avengers were lurking right around the corner.
Loki put his hand on the small of her back, guiding her to walk with him to the balcony. There they took in the sight of the Chitauri army. It wasn’t a pleasant sight at all. There was destruction everywhere. Despite knowing the army wasn’t from this planet, it was fitting to humanity. Destruction and chaos was everywhere.
“We must win this fight. Once the tesseract is with Thanos, I don’t know.”
She felt anxious just thinking about this Thanos person. “I don’t know?” She repeated his words, hoping he would elaborate.
“My first plan had been to stay here. I didn’t know you would be here too, Y/N. That changed everything,” Loki admitted. The universe had put her on his path for a good reason, but he hadn’t figured out how to move on now.
A quinjet flew around the building and Y/N saw Natasha’s familiar face. She was flying it with Clint, who was clearly his own self again. A moment later, Thor appeared with his mighty hammer. It looked like they were cornered, but they couldn’t possibly underestimate Loki and Y/N together.
The sight of their enemies fueled both of them with energy. This was a fight for freedom. Without saying another word, Y/N got into action. She used her powers to leap from the balcony to the quinjet, taking Natasha and Clint by surprise. Loki went the other way to fight Thor, which he had waited to do for a while now.
Being on top of the jet would’ve been terrifying if it wasn’t for the adrenaline that flowed through her veins. She held onto it tightly so they couldn’t shake her off the roof.
Through the speakers on the quinjet, Natasha spoke, “You have one chance to abandon Loki’s side and fight with us!”
Were they serious?
Y/N allowed her suffering to form new energy blasts. She directed her power into the ship and when she let go of the energy, her power tore off the wing. Just like that, the quinjet lost its course and it was time for her to find a new ride. As they neared the ground at a dangerous pace, Y/N jumped off the ship. She landed on a stranger’s balcony safely as the quinjet continued its destructive path.
There was no turning back now.
                                      Loki had never fought Thor with such fiery hatred before. Not even when they fought back on Asgard. This was different. His negative feelings had doubled, either because of the time spent with Thanos, or because of the sceptre that fed his hatred. The mere sight of his so-called brother was enough to make his blood boil.
They were throwing punches at each other. Despite how strong Thor appeared on the outside, he struggled to fight Loki. Thor tried to hit Loki with Mjolnir, which Loki gracefully dodged and then delivered his brutal blows. As Loki swung the sceptre at Thor’s face, they both stopped for a moment. Why didn’t Thor fight back?
The moment Loki stalled to wonder what was going on, Thor had Loki pushed against the wall, but instead of knocking him out, Thor attempted to reach the Loki he once knew.
“Look at this!” Thor wanted Loki to truly see what he had caused.
Loki didn’t know why he did it, but he listened to Thor. Thor yanked the sceptre out of Loki’s grasp so Loki couldn’t use it against him. He simply stood there and watched as the Chitauri army ruined buildings and spread terror among humanity. For a moment, Loki felt sick to his stomach. This wasn’t what he wanted. He simply wanted to be free from his past, and this was the only way to make it happen. He wished it was that simple, that he could make it stop and not worry about what would happen next. But if he made this stop, surely Thanos would find Y/N. He would find everyone Loki had ever cared about even slightly and hurt them. It would all be on Loki. He couldn’t risk that.
“Do you think this madness will end with your rule?” Thor continued harshly.
His words reminded Loki of why he despised Thor. He always believed he was better with Loki, that Loki wasn’t capable of doing anything right in his life. It was the spark his anger needed to get over the heart-to-heart Thor attempted to have with him.
“It’s too late,” Loki knew that deep in his heart. The portal was open, and he was so close to delivering the Tesseract to Thanos. If he stopped, and even if Thanos wouldn’t find him, there was no way Loki could walk away from this like nothing had ever happened. “It’s too late to stop it,” Loki explained and he wished he could’ve said it was too late to stop him. But Thor would never understand.
“No,” Thor sounded hopeful. “We can, together. You, me and Y/N.”
Loki stared at Thor in shock. How did he dare to use her against him? Last time Loki checked, Thor stood like a trained dog by Odin’s side as Odin threatened to banish Y/N merely for existing. Thor had let her walk a path of heartache just to she could look good in Odin’s eye. When Y/N had been pronounced dead, Thor had barely remembered who she was. Thor didn’t give a damn about her unless it was for his benefit.
“Sentiment,” Was all Loki could say as he used a dagger to push Thor off him. It sunk into his flesh through his thick armour, forcing Thor to take a step back, releasing Loki simultaneously.
Loki watched as Thor groaned in pain on his knees. He knew it was twisted, but he hoped Thor felt half the pain that he felt. That he regretted speaking of Y/N like he actually cared about her. Loki knew a lie when he heard one.
Before Thor could get up and fight him, Loki exited the scene. Ever so casually, he walked over the edge of the balcony. He only fell for a split second until he landed on a flying chariot. It was a smooth landing and he was happy to be far away from Thor, even if it would be for a few seconds.
Right now, he wanted to find Y/N and make sure she was alright. He didn’t doubt her powers, but they were in a special situation. Perhaps Loki’s worst fear was that one of Thanos’ children had arrived in the city for some reason. There was no way he could let them find her.
As he neared the ground, he saw people running away. Some were screaming, others were crying, some were frozen in shock. They looked at him like he was a monster.
Loki noticed a child further away, lost or simply otherwise alone. He was crying and calling out for his mother who was nowhere to be seen. The sight made his stomach turn in a sick way. Loki might’ve wanted a glorious war, but not like this. Before a piece from a building could fall on the poor child, he stopped it by using his magic. He grabbed the huge chunk of the building with his magic and pushed it so it landed further away, avoiding the child completely. Instead of smashing the human child, it smashed an empty vehicle. As soon as he was done, he flew away, not bearing to witness the look on the child’s face. He wasn’t playing hero, but he certainly wasn’t there to harm people for fun.
                                           Unbeknownst to Loki, Y/N had been much closer than he anticipated. She returned to the Stark tower merely to find Loki. She wanted to make sure no one tried to close the portal. As much as she disliked the Chitauri, she knew Thanos must’ve been much worse. As she made her way up to the penthouse, she saw Thor. The sight of him made her regret going up there. Yes, she was powerful but so was he. And Thor was Asgardian. She wondered, had they met in the past? Before she could run the other way, Thor noticed her by the elevator and he marched toward her like an angry bull. She froze and decided to stay. Surely, she could fight him and his silly little hammer.
“You can make him stop this!” Thor pointed at her with the Mjolnir. He genuinely thought she wasn’t on Loki’s side. She assumed he was the type of person to see the good in others, even when it didn’t exist.
“Why would I do that?” Y/N decided to test him. It was a dangerous game but she wasn’t scared. It was exciting to see the shock on Thor’s face. He hadn’t expected to hear that from her mouth.
Thor had to let the words sink in for a moment. He had his suspicions of her when he first saw her. But so long ago, Thor had been told she was dead. He couldn’t possibly believe she was alive and in the Avengers project, fighting against Loki.
But now when he saw her like that, in her armour, by Loki’s side via devotion, he was sure of it. It was the Y/N he knew of back then. And she was still connected to Loki. Breaking that commitment would be difficult, if not impossible. Thor knew he had to do this the hard way.
“Do you really want to hurt these people?” Thor wondered. From what he remembered, she had been sweet and kind. Sure, a mighty warrior in battles but as a person, someone Loki had needed at the time and perhaps she had needed him too, just as much. Y/N had been so loving and Loki challenged her, in the best ways. They truly were soulmates, which was often times fantastic.
When soulmates teamed up and turned against others, it could be catastrophic.
“People won’t get hurt if you stop fighting it,” Y/N was sure of it. Loki wasn’t here to hurt people for sport. He only had to keep the fight going on so no one could stop him from delivering the Tesseract to Thanos.
“And then what? They would fall under Loki’s rule. Loki and humanity do not go well together!”
“Humanity sucks, Thor! They are cruel creatures who only care for themselves. Besides, Loki doesn’t want to rule this mess!” She was quick to bark back at him. Perhaps it had been the original plan, but Loki just told her he didn’t know what to do once it would all end.
Thor seemed confused. If not to rule humanity, why would he start a war?
Y/N continued, “We both just want to be free.”
“You can be free, if you stop this,” Thor tried his best to win her over with words.
Y/N didn’t believe Thor for one second. That would be pathetic of her. Her trust had shattered a long time ago. Loki was different because he had something real to back up his words.
To show Thor that she wasn’t having any of his tricks, she pulled out a weapon she hadn’t touched in a long time. Fishing it out from a pocket dimension, she grabbed it gracefully and smiled. It was her sword that had been her backbone in many situations before.
“I won’t let you stop him, Thor.”
“And I can’t let you help him.”
“So be it,” Y/N was disappointed that even Loki’s own brother couldn’t understand. She was ready to fight.

[Chapter 4]
A/N: Oh my god, I can’t believe how long it took me to continue this story. I’m so sorry! This year has simply been unbelievable. But I’m back at it again and I truly hope you can find some joy in this. If you do, I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts, even if you would simply smash your keyboard. Feedback makes my day and hearing from you guys inspires me so much. Have a great day 💚
Also there will definitely be more action and angry Loki in the next chapter. I just wanted some softness before the eventual chaos 👀

Once Upon A Dream (Hera x Ventus)
Uhhh....okay so this wasn't supposed to post until the 31st but I must have gotten the queue wrong soooooo. Have an early gift.! I dedicate this fic to the very lovely and absolutely gorgeous @sammilimyy! Why do you ask? Because it’s her birthday (I'm early sorry)!!! I was so inspired by your royal/fantasy AU with Hera and Ven that I just had to write a fanfic for it. Now this is basically inspired by a certain movie from a certain company that shall not be named out of fear they will take this down, but if you know the song then you know the movie. I hope you like it Sam (and I hope that I got it on time for your b-day) have a happy and wonderful birthday!
Word Count: 4339
Pairing: Hera (OC)/Ventus (Kingdom Heart)
Warnings: Nothing but pure fluff! I hope you have a good Dentist Sammi, cuz this thing is gonna give you cavities!!!
It was happening again. This dream she found herself in was coming to her with much more frequency now. Always in this dream, Hera would find herself wandering through a forest where the birds graced her ears with beautiful melodies and the way the light filtered through the trees was practically angelic. In this dream, she would always wear a tea-length dress so it would not drag against the soft grass and dirty the pristine fabric. Said dress was adorn in mute yellow skirt and bodice with pale pink trimming and a bow in the back. It flowed with grace as Hera continued barefoot down the unmade path. A path she has taken several times before.
At this point she would reach a clearing where the trees created a canopy of sorts and the brush and wildflowers bloomed and grew with no outside interference. Standing in the middle of this clearing was a figure. It always looked like the spirit of a young boy. Someone who Hera would guess was about her age but taller than her. He had spiky hair and clothes that looked different from that of what she had seen in the nearby villages of the kingdom. As he turned to face her, she could see the phantom of a smile on his face but never his actual features. Soft music would fill the air as they approached each other and they began to dance. The soft whips of his fingers held her waist as they twilered and glided across the grass. They could never speak to each other but they could laugh. And Hera thought his laugh was better than any orchestra in the world.
Despite never speaking to this boy and only sharing these dances, Hera had fallen for this mysterious stranger. It was a dream, but in her heart, it all felt completely real. This boy was out there. At this point, after they had their dance, the music would end and Hera would wake up to the knocks of her Lady in Waiting telling her to start the day; but this time was different. For just a brief moment, when Hera looked up and faced the spirit, she could see him. It was still in a ghost like form but his features were there and she took it all into memory. The bangs across his forehead, the goofy yet loving smile he wore, and most importantly the shadowy blue eyes that looked back at her. He had never appeared tangible to her once during these late night rendezvous but after seeing him in this apparariton form, Hera knew. She was completely in love.
Hera woke with a start in her bed. The sudden movement had scared her Meow Wow Polly and her friend Naminé who was drawing the curtains to let light enter the room.
“Your Grace, you’re awake.” The Lady in Waiting spoke once the initial shock faded. “I knocked on the door to wake you, but you didn’t respond. Then, when I came in, you had the most peaceful smile on your face that I didn’t want to wake you just yet.”
Hera held her heart as Naminé spoke, remembering the dream once more. “Did you have another dream about him?” Naminé sat on the bed next to the princess as Polly let out a small whine and cuddled back into her owner.
“Yes, I did. We danced like we always do. But this time,” Hera paused as her smile became more giddy, “This time I saw him, Naminé.”
Naminé wore a similar smile at this development, “Really! That’s wonderful Princess. What did he look like?” Hera adjusted herself on the bed so Naminé could begin taking her hair out of the braids she wore to bed.
“Well, he still looked like a ghost of sorts but his facial features were there and not just a blank face. He had the most beautiful blue eyes, Naminé.” A love-struck sigh left Hera’s lips, “It was like looking into the night sky itself.”
“You are absolutely smitten with this boy. Do you think he’s real?”
“Why else would he appear to me in this dream? And remember, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen him.” Hera got out of bed and walked out onto the balcony. She leaned on the stone railing and gazed out into the horizon; her nightdress flowing in the early morning breeze. A sigh of doubt escaped her, “Naminé?”
Her Lady approached, “Yes Princess?”
“Answer me honestly, please. Do you think that boy is out there? Am I foolish to think that he could exist?”
Naminé’s eyes softened at her friend's sudden realization that this could all just be a dream. She held Hera close and spoke, “I think that in a world where magic exists and mythical creatures are a prominent part of our lives, having recurring dreams about a mysterious boy is calm by comparison.” This made Hera laugh, “I think he’s out there my Princess. If this truly is love that you feel, then you will both find your way to one another.”
After that, the day continued on as normal. Naminé helped Hera get dressed for the morning. Hera went to her lessons with Eraqus, the king. His lessons involved looking after the kingdom when she eventually came to rule. She had Keyblade training with Young Master Riku, Naminé would always remain close by during these lessons as the Lady in Waiting was very smitten with the Keyblade Master. And on this particular day, she ended her training with Master Aqua. The sworn protector of the Princess, Aqua specialized in magic and was well versed in wielding a Keyblade. She would teach Hera about combining magic into her basic attacks. However, Aqua took notice that Hera was not as focused as usual.
“Is there something bothering you Hera?”
“Huh? No Master Aqua, what makes you say that?” Their keyblades dissipated into the air signalling that they were done for the evening.
“It’s just that you haven’t been as focused as you should be during your lessons. And it’s not just with me, the King has noticed you’ve been more aloof with your teachings. Merlin has taken notice as well and so has Riku.” Hera hung her head in shame, should she tell Aqua about the dreams and the young boy? No, surely she would think the Princess crazy for looking into something like dreams. And falling in love with an apparition whom you don’t even know the name of would get her a lecture from the King. Hera couldn’t come up with a response quick enough but Aqua took the silence as something different. “You seem so worn out. Maybe you haven’t been getting enough sleep?”
At that, Hera’s head shot up, “Yes! Yes Master Aqua, that’s exactly it!” The sudden change in demeanor startled the blue haired Master from her train of thought. “I’m just so tired as of late Master Aqua. I think it would be best if I went off to bed now even. I had my dinner sometime before training so I’m not hungry.” Aqua blinked a few times. Hera seemed...excited to go to bed? It was an odd development in her attitude for sure but it seemed to be an improvement to what it was before so Aqua let it slide for now.
“Of course Your Grace, I’ll send for Naminé to meet you in your chambers to assist you for the night. Sweet dreams Princess Hera.” It was hard for the young girl to contain her excitement and Aqua could have sworn she heard a whispered, They will be as Hera passed.
Naminé carefully brushed Hera’s hair in the large bed of the royal chambers. Both girls wore their nightgowns and were discussing the events of the day. Polly sat comfortably in Hera’s lap, listening just as intently as if she were to join the conversation at any moment.
“I couldn’t help but notice that you were paying extra attention to Master Riku’s lessons today.” Hera jested with her best friend; a smirk proudly displayed on her face.
“At least one of us was.”
“Hey! Naminé!” The Princess turned to push the blonde girl as they both laughed in the empty, fire lit room. “He likes you, you know.”
“Oh please, I’m just a maid, he wouldn't like me.”
Hera thought about this for a moment as Naminé worked an intricate updo into the Princess's hair for the night. She could tell her friend was discouraged by this separation of class so she tried to lighten the mood, “If he rejects you, I’ll have him beheaded.” Naminé nearly choked on her own saliva and snorted out a laugh. Having accomplished her mission in making her friend laugh, Hera joined as well.
“As kind as that is, please Hera, don’t kill anyone on my behalf.” Naminé was grateful for the joke and Hera enjoyed the lack of formalities with her best friend. The conversation continued in this matter but before Naminé got up for the night, Hera asked her a question.
“You want me to draw you a picture?”
“Yes, please, if it’s not too much to ask?” Naminé, not wanting to refuse her friend or the Princess, took a piece of parchment from the desk, some graphite, and a flat board to give her some stability and joined Hera back on the bed.
“Alright Hera, what is your request?”
“I want you to draw the boy from my dreams.” Big, pleading blue eyes met confused blue ones as Naminé took in what Hera asked.
“I-Your Grace-Hera, you know that I don’t know what he looks like, yes?”
“Oh, I know. That’s why, you’re going to sit next to me and I’m going to watch you draw as I describe him to you.” Hera grabbed the pillow next to her and made room for her friend and tapped the spot. A small smile adorned the Lady’s face as she made herself comfortable and ready for the long night ahead of her.
~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, in the outskirts of the Kingdom, some yards away from the borders, a young farm boy sat upon the roof of his home looking at the horizon as the sky changed from warm tones to cool blues and the stars greeted him for the night. He came to look out into the sky when he needed to clear his head. And after having a busy day of training, fram work, and running errands, Ventus was in need of a small break. Not to mention that this moment alone gave him some time to think about the spirit girl he saw in his dreams. At first, Ventus just blew it off. Strange dreams happen all the time, take ‘em with a grain of salt. But then, she kept coming back, the same girl, in the same forest, with the same dress, and the same beautiful smile. God that smile. It was barely noticeable with the form that she took in his dreams but Ven was in love with it nonetheless.
He chuckled to himself. There I go again, Terra would have a fit if he could hear me. Falling in love with a forest spirit just because she danced with you in a recurring dream was ridiculous. Right? Ventus sighed and ran a hand through his hair, groaning when he had to pick more sticks out from when he fell herding the animals earlier. That girl made sleeping more exciting yet also somewhat frightening. Why did he see her all the time? Was she some sort of nymph? Was she even real? Would she love him back? And, why did he feel such disappointment if the answer was no? He didn’t even know this girl, and yet? Ventus put his hand over where his heart would be and gripped that part of his shirt. This girl had his heart and he didn’t know what to do about it.
“Ven? Ventus? Where are you?” Terra stepped out of the house to call for the young boy. It made Ven laugh just a bit. No matter how many times Ventus escaped to this spot, Terra never thought to check there. “Come on Ven, you’ll never get to be a royal guard if you don’t get a good night’s sleep!”
“And you will never be a detective if you don’t think to check in the obvious spots for the suspect.” Terra turned to see that Ventus was in fact, on the roof. They both shared a laugh and Ven made his way down. “If you keep yelling then you’ll wake the Tama Sheep and the Electricorn.” They both made it back inside the house and Ventus sat with a warm tea Terra had made. The young blond sat and stared at the tea with a look that was both focused and unfocused all at once.
“Hey Terra, do you believe in love at first sight?”
The brunette sat across from the boy and pondered the question, “I think it’s possible. I think that if someone really is the one then you’ll just know.”
“Hmm.”
“You thinking about your dreams again?”
“Yeah. It’s always with the same girl. She comes to that forest, doesn’t say a single thing to me, just laughs, and we dance. They’re getting more frequent and-” Ventus paused a small smile creeping onto his face.
“And?” With raised eyebrows, Terra waited for a response.
“And...I saw her face.” Ven couldn’t hide the smile or blush at this point and Terra’s eyes widened, not expecting that to be his response. “It was all ghosty and weird like the rest of her but I could see her eyes and the way they had so much life to them. I saw her and I just fell for her, Terra. Even more than I already am in love with her.”
“Does she look like anyone you know? Maybe it’s someone from the marketplace?”
“No, her clothes look different from that of the marketplace or even from the nearby towns. I could be wrong but they kinda look like a type of nobility.”
“Wow, look at you; dreaming about a Duchess.” It never crossed either of their minds as they drank the tea that the mysterious girl could have been a princess. Terra listened more to Ven’s recounting of dreams as it got a bit later. An hour had passed and the tea was all gone and both boys sat at the table trying to figure out what to do about the spirit girl.
“I think you should go talk to a woman who goes by Fairy Godmother. No one knows her real name but she is really good at figuring out people’s dreams. She lives on the far side of Traverse Town near the kingdom borders.” Ven listened closely. “If anyone can help you out, it’s her.” It was discussed that Ventus would take one of the Yoggy Rams and travel there tomorrow morning.
By early morning light, Ventus did just that. It was a long ride but not too tedious. Around mid-afternoon Ventus arrived at Traverse Town and began asking for this Fairy Godmother. Some people lead him to the back of the town where, in the middle of a water well, there was a house that was similar to that of a doll’s but less childish. Ventus carefully walked over the rocks with his Yoggy Ram to the front door and gave it a pensive knock. He waited no more than a minute when a kind looking older woman answered the door. She smiled at him like she was his grandson and enveloped him into a hug.
“Oh hello young man, it’s good to see you. Please, please, come in. Let your Ram drink from the water around my house. I don’t mind. I just prepared some warm milk if you would like some.” Fairy Godmother brought him into the quaint living room and he lifted the milk to his lips taking a sip. It tasted faintly of vanilla and hazelnut; it made Ventus smile. “So,” Fairy Godmother sat across from him in her own plush chair, “How can I help you dear.”
“My friend told me that you could help me with my dreams?”
She lightly laughed and placed her tea cup down, “Yes, he is correct; dreams tend to be my specialty. Tell me everything my dear.” Ventus did just that. From the smiles, to the laughs, and all the joy he felt in between. When he finished, he sat anxiously for the answer. “Hmm, this sounds like a very special girl.”
“She is Fairy Godmother.”
“But you have never seen her before?”
He hung his head, “No I haven’t Fairy Godmother.”
“And yet you’re in love with her.” There was no malice in this question and she asked knowing exactly what his answer would be.
Ventus sighed, the milk long finished as he searched for his answer, “I-Fairy Godmother, I know it sounds crazy to love someone you have never met but, my heart tells me that she is someone who I want to spend the rest of my life with. I don’t have much to give. I am a stable boy who is training for a guard position and doesn't have much control of his Keyblade yet and I can be kinda naive but I love her. More than anything.”
The Fairy Godmother smiled at his answer; it had exceeded her expectations. “That’s even better than what I had expected you to say.” She stood up and went to a bookshelf and handed him a map. A map of the kingdom more specifically. “You see this area?” She pointed to an unnamed forest that was about halfway to the castle and his ranch. “There is no name on the map but people call it The Somnium Forest. It’s a magical forest where people go when they need help in their lives. They say that it feels like time stops when you enter and no one leaves the forest unsatisfied. The inside of the forest, they say, never looks the same for one person.” She held Ventus’ hands in hers, “Tomorrow young man, I want you to go to the Somnium and walk around for a bit. I’m sure it will help you with your dreams.”
Ventus wasn’t sure how a forest would help, but he was willing to try. He gave the Fairy Godmother one last hug and left with his Yoggy Ram.
Returning to the castle once more. Hera walked around the grounds with more disdain than usual. Why? She didn’t dream about the boy. His picture was carefully placed in her tea-length dress pocket (courtesy of a very late drawing session with Naminé) but having the paper wasn’t the same as seeing him in her dreams. It had only been a day and yet it was enough to put her in an upsetting mood. It was to the point that she didn’t want to hang around the castle anymore. That was how she found her way to the library asking Merlin for his map of the kingdom.
“Any place you want to go, in particular Young Hera?” He asked with his usual chipper tone.
“No, just want to explore, get out for a bit.” Hera held her head in her left hand as her right hand grazed over the different locations of the map, pointer finger out. She could go to the castle town? No, that was far too close to home. She could go to the outskirts and explore the hills that acted as the land border on the west side? No, if she was gone for too long Aqua would have a fit. Her eyes noticed a forest and that peaked her interest. “Merlin, what’s this place?”
He adjusted his glasses, “Ah! You mean The Somnium Forest? It’s a place where dreams come true as they say.” He takes a sip of his tea, “People go in there and not one person leaves upset. Forest is magical.”
“A magical forest?” Hera could use some more magic in her life. And even if it wasn’t, having the comfort of a forest setting could give her some semblance of her dream. “Thank you for your help Merlin, could I trouble you to watch Polly while I’m gone?”
“Oh it would be no trouble at all Princess! I love the little thing after all. Come along Polly, let’s see what potions I can make to help Aerith in the garden.” The Meow Wow and the Wizard walked in tandem as Hera packed the map and made her way to the stables. As much as she wanted to leave with no one’s notice, the brunette unfortunately ran into Aqua.
“Oh Princess Hera, why are you heading to the stables?”
“I just wanted to take my Pegaslick and explore for a bit. I’m not sure when I will be back so can you tell Naminé that she has the rest of the day off? Maybe tell her to have some sweets with Master Riku.”
“Princess, by yourself? Are you sure you don’t want me to join you? I could quickly-”
“No, Master Aqua, I’m fine.” Hera didn’t feel good about brushing her Master and protector off but she needed to go to this forest. It was calling her the same way her dreams did.
She got to the stables and had the royal stable boy Prompto helped ready her Pegaslick. “The reins are all good, Your Grace, enjoy your ride.”
Hera took off after a quick thank you and without a second thought. It was difficult to ride while holding the map but after an hour, Somnium Forest greeted her. She got off the Pegaslick and decided to walk the remainder, her companion close to her side.
Upon entering, the Princess did feel different. There was a strong happiness that washed over her. The fresh smell filled her nose and the grass seemed so soft that she took off her riding boots, hanging them on the saddle and continued barefoot. Eventually, Hera found herself walking deeper into the trees but she couldn’t find it in herself to worry about getting lost. A part of her knew that she wasn’t. In fact, the way the trees and flowers created a path. And the light through the trees. Her dress flowing in the soft breeze and the birds. It all made her stop to pinch herself.
“This has to be a dream.” A whisper that she barely heard left her lips but the muzzle of her Pegaslick acted as a reasurace that this was all real. With a new found fervor, Hera kept going.
On the other hand, Ventus was having the same feeling of déjà vu; only he bounded into the forest with reckless abandon. All these trees, flowers, and rocks he rode past were familiar to him. And as he approached a clearing, he knew this was the moment of truth.
They stared at each other on either side of the clearing. Both shook with excitement but neither moved out of fear of breaking this perfect scene. Ventus had to get off his Yoggy Ram but his eyes never once left hers. Carefully, they approached and once they met in the middle?
“You-are you-?” Hera couldn’t speak. So overwhelmed with joy that he stood before her as a flesh and blood person and not just some apparition. Rather she took out her drawing from the dress pocket and held it up. “It is you.”
Ventus held her face and she leaned into his touch. He wiped a tear that fell from her eye and nodded his head. “The boy from the dreams? Yes, that’s me.” Hera dropped the picture and hugged him. Her arms around his middle and his holding her head into his chest.
“I thought you weren’t real. I thought the universe was playing a horrible trick on me.”
“I promise I’m real. My name is Ventus, and I have wanted this moment ever since that first dream we had.” The dropped drawing was retrieved and put back into her pocket.
“Ventus,” What a beautiful name, “I am Hera. Your voice is so wonderful! I’m so glad to finally hear it!”
“The Princess? I’m so stupid for not recognizing you sooner. I must say Hera,” Ven brushed her hair behind her ears, “The dreams don’t do you justice. I didn’t think there could be a blue more clear than the sky, yet your eyes puts it to shame.” Hera blushed and smiled, wiping some tears from her cheeks. “There is just one thing missing to make our dream a reality.” Hera tilted her head. What more could they want? “There may not be music but, may I have this dance?”
He was right, no music played in this forest, but Hera happily accepted his hand as they moved across the grass. The laughter sounded even better than any of the nights they shared.
Off behind the trees, Aqua watched with the purest expression. Against her better judgement, she followed the young Princess to see if she was alright. Once she saw Hera with this young boy she knew everything was fine.
“So, you followed her I’m assuming?” Aqua looked and saw Terra approach as he went to the spot next to her.
“Yes, and I take it that he is yours?”
“Yeah, less ‘mine’. I’m more of his friend slash guardian.” They watched the kids dance and laugh and converse in the clearing. Terra broke their silence again, “Ventus, he’s training to be a royal guard.”
“Is he now?” Aqua smiled as she knew where this conversation was headed.
“Yes, I’m just a stable boy like him but I did undergo some training as well. I teach him everything and he is a very fast learner. I don’t want to overstep my boundaries but, perhaps the Princess could use another personal guard?”
Aqua laughed and didn't take her eyes off of the lovely couple as, "Yes, I'm sure Her Majesty would love that."
Midterm Exams
Part of the Once upon a December series.
This story has a moodboard, check it out.
Charles was bent over the heavy books, biting his lower lip as he was scribbling notes. He had closed the curtains hours before, the cheerful yelling of students playing in the snow proving to be a terrible distraction, something Charles couldn’t afford. He had fallen behind on his grades and he really needed to get the best score at this exam if he wanted to keep his scholarship.
Even before the door opened, Charles sensed that distraction was coming. True enough, Erik entered the room and walked straight to Charles, wrapping his arms around him from behind and nuzzled up to Charles’ neck.
“Hey,” Charles gave him a quick kiss.
“Why you study so much?”
Charles rolled his eyes. “Because thanks to someone, I’ve been failing.”
Erik chuckled proudly and let go of Charles, only to lean against his desk. “You’ve been failing ‘cause you don’t wanna use your powers, which is stupid.”
“I told you a hundred times, it’s not fair.”
Erik shrugged. “Who cares?” He stared down at the books scattered around on the desk then gave Charles a meaningful grin. “Biology. I could help with that.”
Charles glared at him. “No thanks.”
“Whatever.” Erik pushed himself away and threw himself on his bed, still grinning.
Charles was surprised that he got rid of Erik so easily and should have known better. He turned back to his notes about human bone structure and managed to read three paragraphs before images started to disturb his mind.
He was lying on the bed, sweat beading on his face and mouth opening for a silent scream. He was in the shower, Erik kneeling before him. He was kissing Erik, pushing him against the table in the empty classroom.
“Stop it!” Charles groaned and threw a pen at the projecting bastard.
Erik stopped the pen in mid-air, laughing. “Should use plastic ones, you know?”
“I will,” swore Charles. “Now, will you please find some other place to be, at least until nine?”
“Since you asked so nicely,” Erik pouted and got up to leave but not before thinking ‘Oh, all the things I’ll do to you after nine.’
He could hear Charles’ helpless moan even through the closed door and Charles could hear his laughter all the way down the corridor.
Days in the sun - Walter Deville x Reader -OUAD alt fic!
Will I tremble again, To my dear one's gorgeous refrain? Will you now forever remain Out of reach of my arms? -
“(Y/N)-NO-(Y/N)!!!!” I screamed out her name, her hand having just slipped from mine-her ring now sitting in the palm of my hand as her form crumbled to the ground-her head hitting something hard-I flinched as I heard her skull crack. I called her name over and over again, my castle staff holding me back from leaping off the cart and going back to save her-I would be no use to her or them dead from the townsfolk.
She wasn’t there when we came back after everything calmed down-I desperately searched for her throughout the forest-calling for her-her ring clutched to my chest, tears streaming down my face. “(y/n)!!!” I screamed and screamed and screamed.
She never responded.
All I found was the rock that was stained with her blood-where her head had been cracked open. I collapsed over it, curling into myself as I cried my heart out, my throat getting sore and dry with how much I cried.
I think I cried out all my emotions that day-because-after that-I felt…nothing. just-emptiness.
Things stayed that way for the next 900 years.
-
There's not a day that goes by that I don’t miss her. My beloved.
My (y/n).
It had been over 900 years since she disappeared, since I last held her hand, since I last heard her voice. At some point-you’d think I lose count of the days, the months, the years since that fateful day. But I hadn’t, my brain constantly reminded me of her, of how long it’s been.
328,777 days. 900 years, two months, three days. That’s how long it had been since I lost my heart-my soulmate. I sighed, leaning back from my current paperwork, reaching up and taking the thin silver chain from around my neck, bringing (y/n)’s wedding ring out to rest in my palm.
To this day-I had, no clue-to where she had gone. She wasn’t dead-I knew that, if she had been killed I would’ve become human again-maybe even died with her. But instead, it was almost as if my heart was taken and locked away, only to be released when I thought of her.
I sighed again, bringing her ring to my lips and closing my eyes; wondering what the villagers had done with my beloved so many centuries ago. Had they buried her? Locked her away? Was she chained to the bottom of a lake-wasting away, waiting for me to find her?
I hated the thought, hated the thought that she might still be waiting for me; waiting to be rescued by her beloved. I covered my eyes at the thought, biting the inside of my cheek as my chest felt heavy all of a sudden. I forced that feeling away as my butler knocked on my study door and I sat up in my chair, taking a deep breath before calling him to come in, hiding her ring behind my shirt.
“yes?” I asked him, a bit tiredly, the current week had been a bit exhausting-with the news of a suddenly appearing Alexander female that was of marital age, there was a shortage of something within the town that apparently needed my attention, Viktoria was being oddly clingy in way that wasn’t exactly-endurable, and the sudden waves of paining guilt that were piercing my chest before, during, and after each meal I ate.
That had happened more often-first starting 10 years ago now. I couldn’t quite place why-for the last 900 years-after she disappeared-it felt like my emotions were locked behind my own heart. I never had time to dwell on why it was happening.
My mind was brought back to the present as Mr. Field stood in front of my desk, handing me a file with Ms. Evelyn ‘Alexander’ Jackson’s information in it. “oh, good” I muttered, taking the file and opening it, pulling out a printed version of Evelyn’s Facebook profile. She was quite the specimen, dark curling hair with piercing brown eyes, a nose ring complimenting her facial structure and lips. She was beautiful-though no-one would ever match my darling (y/n). I looked up, seeing Mr. Field still standing there. “Anything else?”
“Oliver Alexander called, he said Ms. Alexander did agree to fly in for the wedding, she thinks it’s a wedding for their cousin and your niece at the moment” I chuckled, sipping at the scotch that sat on my right-hand side. Niece, I was the only Deville left-neither of my sisters wished for children and I never had the opportunity to…well, I did-but the person I wanted kids with wasn’t around anymore. “but, she requests to bring a friend of hers along”
I nearly choked on my drink, looking up at my butler in shock. “really?” I asked, calming myself and setting my drink down, licking my lips as he nodded “and-who is this friend?” maybe this friend of Evelyn could be her first meal as a vampire-as a proper goodbye to her human life(I felt a sharp pain in my chest at that idea, what was this feeling?!)
“Oliver says her name is (y/n).”
My heart skipped a beat.
No….no it-it couldn't be-it couldn’t.
It would be impossible.
There were millions of (y/n)’s in the world-there had to be-it-it couldn't be my (y/n). It would be impossible.
Her ring sitting on my chest suddenly felt so present-even more so than usual. I didn’t realize I was zoning out, Mr. Field looking down at me concerned, tilting his head slightly “Sir? Master Deville?” I looked up at him, clearing my throat, waving my hand in dismissal. “yes-of course. This, (y/n)-” my mouth felt dry at the name-and my body felt warm-but I forced myself to believe that it wasn’t my (y/n).
It couldn’t be.
She was gone. I had to accept that.
My mind went to the pocket watch that sat in my bedroom desk drawer, our song sitting locked within its gears. “-is welcomed to come along with Evelyn.” Mr. Field nodded, a bit-concerned-at my current reactions to this friend of Evelyn. But he bowed out with a wave of my hand, leaving me to practically sink to the floor out of my chair, my heart suddenly beating out of my chest-something it hadn’t done in decades. Centuries even.
Just her name sent me into a whirlwind like this.
“it’s not her, it’s not” I whispered to myself, covering my face with both hands and taking a slow sobbing breath. “it’s not. She’s gone.” I bit the inside of my lip-I hated admitting that to myself, but-the man who she loved was gone, so reasonably-she was gone too. The man who clung to her had been left behind in the abandoned castle-I needed to let her go.
I touched my cheek-it was blazing warm-my eyes burning with tears. “fuck” I cursed, tipping my head back and taking several deep breaths; i needed to gain control of myself-all while wondering where all this had come from.
Guilt for feeding on innocent people, pain when I remembered my dear (y/n), and all this-blubbering-over her name.
What had happened? What had happened to the emotionless Walter Deville?
-
Mr. Field stopped as he made his way through the halls, feeling as if he had forgotten to ask the master something about the new Alexander brides friend. He brushed the thought off-he was sure it wasn’t important.
-
In the next three weeks-the household of new Carfax abbey got ready for the arrival of the new lady Alexander, and her friend. An extra guest room was made up, and the Alexander suite was readied for a new generation-fitted for a young woman like Evelyn. Soon came the day of her arrival-only five days before the wedding. Only she didn’t know it was hers just yet.
I brushed my shirt clean-running my hands through my lightly gelled hair to smooth it back. My eyes caught onto the painting that hung above the doors that led into my room-(y/n)’s ever-kind eyes staring back at me. I sighed, feeling her ring press warmly against my chest-I blew her painting a kiss and exited my room-it was around the time Evelyn would arrive along with her friend so I should get going. I frowned at the odd-tugging sensation that pulled at my chest-a wisping wind at my back-pushing me towards the front yard.
I shook the feeling off, doing one last check of the house before I began making my way downstairs, huffing to myself as I read through the report Mr. Field had given me for the wedding. “of course, the flowers are all messed up-and then her dress won’t be here till Saturday-only a day before the wedding.” It was Wednesday now, and I hated cutting things close-I preferred everything to be on time-maybe even early.
“You’re going to give yourself grey hairs worrying like that” I sighed, turning to see Viktoria, her dark hair pulled halfway back into a bun-the rest of her hair framing her face. “and you’re supposed to be in your room” I muttered back, looking down at the papers and signing a few with a pen I had taken along for the ride. “Evelyn has no idea about all this-so technically-you shouldn't exist quite yet, not till the cocktail party.”
Viktoria clicked her tongue, making her way down to me-meeting me halfway on the staircase “oh don’t worry, I’ll be away from your blushing bride in just a moment, I was just wondering if the food had arrived?”
The maids, she meant the maids-but Viktoria had always been easygoing about what we fed on-even if I was beginning to feel queasy about it. I cursed at the feeling, not 10 years ago I could ravage several women within a day and feel nothing for them-yet now I could hardly kill a mouse and not feel guilt. I-I didn’t necessarily mind feeling this way-it…it made me feel like (y/n) was around again. But it was useless for the life I lived now.
“They should be out front,” I muttered instead of revealing my inner thoughts to my eldest bride, folding away the papers and going to put them inside my study “now go. Evelyn should be here any minute.” Viktoria huffed at the mention of the new bride, she was jealous-of course she was- but she obeyed and stalked away. But I knew later there would be some complaints from her.
I made my way outside to check with the gardener-when a voice caught my attention-a new one. And she sounded quite perturbed with my butler, I sighed, having a feeling he had gotten a bit cruel with the maid staff that had arrived-if I recall-I heard one of them drop a case of champagne glasses.
I began to make my way over-hoping to smooth over Evelyn’s first interaction with my staff and make sure her initial impression with the manor wasn’t on such a sour note. “Did I stutter?” Evelyn snapped, holding an intricately made vase to her chest, glaring at my butler who seemed ready to spout some words that neither I nor Evelyn would have liked to hear.
He was a good butler-but gods he was a bit of an asshole. “At ease Mr. Field” I quickly called out, hands in my pockets as I approached my new bride, her dark brown eyes turning over to me-the thinly laced anger in her eyes not disappearing at the sight of me. Though I didn’t expect it to-from her files-she was a bit of a spitfire. “I believe this is one of our important guests” I ended with a soft smile aimed at Evelyn-though something-I didn’t know what-was screaming at me to look just behind my new bride.
I only glanced, holding back a frown as I felt my heart skip a beat as I looked at the new person that had arrived with Evelyn, she was holding her finger in her mouth-her back turned to me. I looked back at Evelyn, smelling blood from this new person-she must’ve been Evelyn’s friend; (y/n). My heart skipped another beat at the thought of her name.
“And that makes a difference?” Evelyn muttered, glaring at me a bit-at the notion that her new connections to the Alexander family made a difference in how she was treated by my staff. Mr. Fields bowed-all but confirmed Evelyn had made a correct assumption “my sincerest apologies ma’am.” Evelyn just glared, and I glanced at my butler-who quickly bowed off, realizing he wasn’t welcome anymore.
Why was my heart going crazy-what the hell was happening? I could feel it beating out of my chest like I was alive again-the last time this happened was-was when I saw (y/n) in her wedding dress. “Apologies,” I said instead of focusing on my odd feelings, turning to watch as my butler walked away “he can be a bit demanding.”
Evie grumbled to herself, glaring after my butler “More like an asshole,” I couldn’t help but chuckle, smirking at my new bride-she was quite amusing “Ah, so you must be Evelyn~” she furrowed her brows at me, moving her hair out of the way as squared her shoulders slightly. “Evie. And you are?” I was about to introduce myself, my eyes flickering back over to Evie’s friend, something kept drawing me to her-and I couldn’t figure out why.
I felt like I knew her.
“Walter!” Evie’s friend’s shoulders dropped slightly, as if disappointed by my name, slightly glancing at me as she continued to nurse her finger-I couldn't see her eyes just yet but I could feel them on me-and my heart continued to beat like a hummingbird's wings. What was going on with me? Oliver jogged over to stand next to Evie’s friend, taking my hand and smiling at Evie “You beat me to the punch,” Oliver joked, pulling back and putting his hands in his pockets. “you’ve been introduced?”
Evie gave a very disappointed sounding “Yes.” while I said no, so I just grinned in that way I knew made every girl melt and tilted my head slightly “Well, not formally” I muttered, I watched as Evie clicked her jaw and stepped back towards her friend-who finally turned to look at me. And I locked eyes with her-and
And-
And-
Oh, oh my gods.
No-it-it-
It was impossible-it couldn’t be?....
(y/n)?
That-this was my (y/n), my darling (y/n), it had to be-no one could ever match her beauty so well as this woman did-she had the same eyes-the same lips-the same face, the same shining hair-this…
How-how was she here?
What had I done to earn her presence again?
I felt my heart stop again-my hands shaking in my pockets-my lungs unable to function as I took my long-lost beloved in. It-had to be her, it had to be-this had been what my body was pushing me towards-begging me to reunite with my beloved, to be with my darling (y/n). every part of me screamed to take her in my arms, to hold her, and never let her go again.
I forced myself to look back at Evie, trying to convince myself that this wasn’t (y/n), that I was forcing her visage upon Evie’s friend. But every time I looked at her-that visage never faded, and that pull I felt never left. Oliver introduced Evie and her friend; (y/n), and I could only try to keep my eyes on Evie while my hands trembled, unable to focus as my mind speed-ran the stages of grief and disbelief.
This had to be a-a dream of some sorts-a trick-a nightmare-(y/n)-my darling, my dearest-couldn’t have just-shown up suddenly. I was going to wake up in my bed-and restart the day-and this (y/n) wouldn’t be my (y/n). Oliver introduced me, and when (y/n) heard my last name-she perked up, and-and that gave me just a bit of hope.
Did she recognize me? Maybe this was my (y/n). I kept switching up on myself, telling myself it wasn’t my (y/n), and then the next moment I believed it truly was my darling.
Then It hit me- I should probably talk again, and so I told Evie she could just call me Walt-teasing her for telling me I could call her Evie instead of her full name. (y/n) licked her lips at that, pulling out her sliced finger from her mouth, frowning down at it as Evie finally noticed the injury-as did i-and pulled (y/n)s hand into her face “(y/n)! when did that happen?!” (y/n) was about to answer but I stepped forward and took her hand-and the moment I touched her skin-it was like lightning went down my spine.
Her eyes met mine-and I felt my body come alive again, my mind a flurry of emotions I hadn’t felt for years.
It was truly her-this was my (y/n), my beloved. My lady. I could hear the blood rushing to her cheeks as I examined her cut, frowning at the blood that began to pour from it again “glass-shard-cut” (y/n) stuttered out, her cheeks flaring to life as I held her hand gently.
Oh gods-how I had missed the sound of her voice-like soft snow bells on a winter evening, calm waves on the shore, songbirds in spring-oh how I could listen to her for hours on end, wishing to bury myself within her voice. I blinked back to reality as I realized I should get her taken care of quickly and started tugging her into the manor, leading her towards the kitchens-she resisted for only a moment, glancing back at Evie-who shrugged, looking just as confused as Oliver did-wondering why I had taken a shine to this ‘random’ girl.
I wondered when (y/n) would drop the act, and smirk at me like she used to when she played teasing tricks on me-like she always did when she helped my little sister prank me. Probably once we were alone-then that look in her eyes that she reserved for only me would return-and I would shower her in the affection I had missed giving her these last 900 years.
But as I cleaned her wound, and placed a Band-Aid on it-that look never appeared, instead, there was only confusion. There was no spark of familiarity-and I realized-I hadn’t seen it once from her. Why was she acting as if she didn’t know me? “There we go,” I muttered as I finished dressing her wound, stepping back to give her some space-watching carefully as she curled her hands into her chest-looking up at me through her lashes. “All better” she thanked me quietly, bowing her head as she did.
“you didn’t have to do that” she muttered, and I nearly scoffed, shaking my head-how could she say that? I would do anything for her. “no worries,” I said instead, my eyes drawn down to the leather chord that laced around her neck, her fingers fiddling with it-could that be? “so how do you know Evie?” I asked, genuinely curious on how my beloved had come to know my new bride…okay that sentence was very weird to me now that (y/n) was back.
Might have to make a major change of plans.
As (y/n) explained how she had met Evie-and became friends-my mind was stuck on the fact that she had been homeless for six years. I could only imagine her scared and alone-shivering as the night chill settled in. my gaze settled back on her as she tucked her chin into her chest-something she always did when she felt shy or uncomfortable.
“Why were you homeless, if-if that’s not an invasive question?” I needed to know, why had she been alone? Lost in a world she had been missing from for 900 years-when had she appeared? How long had she been just out of reach? (y/n) laughed awkwardly, fiddling with her necklace as she glanced to the side, shrugging a bit. “oh! Uh, this is-going to sound strange but uh,” she bit her lip, as if unsure she should tell me something “I woke up about ten years ago, with no memories.”
She…..she didn’t remember anything?
She-she didn’t remember me?
I felt the brimming hope in my body die out at that, my shoulders dropping as I looked at my beloved, who had finally returned to me after 900 years…only to not know who I was, and who she was to me. “I barely knew my name, I really only remember it thanks to this-voice,” I perked up at that, a voice? “I remember calling for me but uh-yeah, I was just-wandering around by a town and this-old couple brought me in and gave me a place to recuperate for a week, and then…I was in New York.”
She shrugged after she finished her sentence, as if it wasn’t a big deal-but all I could feel was a resounding ache in my chest, (y/n) didn’t remember me, or our past-or what she had done. And-and I didn’t know if she would ever remember me. I licked my lips, glancing down at my feet before she caught my attention again, bringing out the necklace that was hidden by her shirt.
“But,” and there it was, the necklace-the blood red gem held by silver and leather hanging from her neck, my first initial and last name carved into the side. Our eternal bond, her spell, my soul.
This was truly my (y/n).
“I do have one clue, and that’s H. Deville….” She looked up at me, biting the inside of her lip, as if unsure she should ask me something. “i-I was wondering if you knew him? or her?...them?” I couldn’t help but just stare, my tight grip on the kitchen counter about to break the marble-wishing to just-take her in my arms and hold her tight, wishing for the universe to never take her away again. Half of me expected to wake up, as if this was just a dream-that I would wake up to her missing from my life again.
But it wasn’t, she was here-my darling was here-I just had to find a way to get her memories back. “You really are her,” I whispered instead, running my hands through my hair, my bangs falling into my face “Holy shit, I thought you died.” (y/n)’s entire face lit up and she stepped towards me, our faces about a foot apart-I didn’t move, just staring into her wonderful eyes. “You know me!? You actually know me?!” she nearly squealed, and I felt awful for what I was about to do-I couldn't just-tell her I was Harrison-her beloved-her husband-for that was who I was-or who I used to be.
Everyone in the manor knew an entirely different person-and If I told her the truth-it would could break her-I didn’t know if she could handle it all right now. She only just got here-assuming H. Deville was someone other than i. “Yes, H.Deville” I nodded at her question, pointing at her necklace that meant so much more than she realized “Harrison Deville” it felt so odd to talk about myself as if Harrison was a completely different person-as if he wasn’t me. “he uh, was a close family member, my uh” quick what was he to me? What could I use that would be close enough to him so I could keep close to her? “my brother in fact”
Perfect-and if she asked-we were twins. I would apologize later if she regained her memories but for now-this story would have to do-I could only hope no-one got in her face about it because I had never had a brother-only sisters-and not even my wives knew that fact. I smiled through the pain of lying to her-watching as she took a breath and covered her smile with her hands-her eyes so full of hope and life.
Oh my beloved (y/n), if only you remembered.
“Harrison” she whispered my name so sweetly, and I wanted to cry, I hadn’t heard my name since before…all of this, since she disappeared. Oh, gods I wanted to hear it from her over and over again. I wanted to take her and run away, live as we used to, I-I wanted to love her again, as she deserved. “Is-is he here? can I see him?” she asked, looking so excited to see the name behind her necklace.
‘You’re looking at him’ I wanted to say, I wanted to tell the truth, to tell her I was her beloved, and she was mine. But I didn’t, holding the pain behind my heart and shaking my head-biting the inside of my lip as her shoulders dropped, looking so disappointed-a look I wanted to throw into an inferno. “why not?” she asked, furrowing her brows. I had already cornered myself, telling her the name of the man she had been looking for and then telling her she couldn’t see him.
I didn’t want to lie to her again, so I told her a half-truth-since he had died 900 years ago-when she disappeared. “he’s uh…” I sighed, tipping my head down “he died a long time ago, just after you disappeared” I whispered, watching as her entire demeanor dropped-looking so…disappointed, and sad-like her heart had been repaired only for it to be shattered…by me.
Oh my darling-I’m so sorry, how I wish I could tuck you away in my arms, and keep you safe, like I couldn’t 900 years ago.
“Who was I to him?” she asked, voice soft and unsure, those gleaming eyes looking into mine-eyes I had missed so much. Who was she to Harrison? Oh, darling;
She was sweet cream on a bitter day, a spring breeze in a cruel winter, a rose in a garden of thorns, the full moon in a blanket of stars, sweet rum on a snowy night, snowflakes in a sweet snowfall, songbirds on a battleground, warm blankets on a rainy night, sweet kisses through heartbreak.
My beloved, my true love-my soulmate. My savior.
“You were his beloved, his first and last true love,” I said instead, forcing away the crack in my voice as (y/n) flushed at the thought of her being someone’s beloved, I held back a smile as she bit her lip, fiddling with the necklace. “Come,” I said, holding out my hand to her “there's something I have to show you”
She tilted her head at me, then took my hand-lightning going down my spine again as I led her out of the kitchens and upstairs, taking a right at the hallway split and towards the master suites-where my room was.
And a room I had hoped to be used one day-but never thought it would be. Her room.
Dreaming of True Love’s Kiss
Yet another piece for my ficaversary. This time, we have an alternate scene from Once Upon a Dream, which was written for @perfectlyrose‘s birthday two years ago.
AO3  FF.net  Teaspoon  Tumblr:  Ch 1  Ch 2 Ch 3
At one point, I planned to carry the Sleeping Beauty allegory into chapter 3 and have Rose trapped in limbo, asleep and yet completely aware of her surroundings. I changed my mind eventually because the deeper I got into that story, the harder it was to transition to reality. But when I was digging through my deleted bits files, I found this scene. With a few hundred words tacked onto the end, I quite like it.
The moment the thorn pierced her skin, Rose heard a whooshing in her ears. Suddenly, she was looking down at her own body.
Am I dead? she wondered frantically.
Rose hovered over her body for thirty minutes before she saw Jack coming toward the hedge, carrying a bird. The day’s delivery, she realised.
Jack released the bird as soon as he saw her body lying on the road. Hands free, he rushed forward, turned her over, and took her helmet off.
“Oh, Rosie,” he groaned when he saw her face. “The Doc is gonna lose his mind when he sees you.”
Her friend scooped her body up in his arms and carried her toward the castle. Rose followed at a close distance, anxious to see the Doctor’s face again.
Jack stormed into the castle and started shouting orders, sending servants scurrying for Sarah Jane and the Doctor. “Tell them I’m in the small salon and I need to see them right away.”
He shouldered the door open without putting Rose down. There was a long divan running against the wall under the window, and Jack laid her down on it carefully.
Rose watched with wide eyes as Sarah Jane and the Doctor entered the room a moment later. There were lines of strain around her friend’s eyes, but the small sign of stress was nothing compared to the Doctor.
His proud bearing looked stiff instead of regal, and his wonderful hair lay plastered to his head instead of spiked up the way he liked it. His suit was rumpled, as if he hadn’t changed it in days.
Rose tried to touch him, but her hand went right through him.
“What do you need, Jack?” he asked wearily.
“I found someone on the road,” Jack said quietly, pointing to the divan.
Rose saw the moment he realised the still form was her. “No,” he moaned as he dropped to his knees beside her. A shaking hand brushed the hair back from her forehead, and his voice was raw when he whispered her name.
But it’s not me! she wanted to cry out. I’m right here, can’t you see?
“For what it’s worth, Doc, she almost made it,” Jack said. “Like I said, she was on the road just this side of the hedge. I had to pry her suit free of a thorn… a branch must have tripped her as she stepped out.”
“It doesn’t matter how close she got,” the Doctor said angrily. “She’s still… she’s never…” He pressed his fist to his mouth and choked back a sob.
“What would you like to do, Your Highness?” Sarah Jane asked quietly. “We can’t leave Rose lying here in the salon.”
The Doctor closed his eyes and bowed his head for a long moment, and when he looked at her again, the remnant of hope that had been present in his brown eyes was gone. He slid his arms underneath her body and stood effortlessly, cradling Rose against his chest. She tried to nuzzle into his neck, but again, was unable to control her own body.
Sarah Jane, Jack, and Rose followed the Doctor up the grand staircase, then to the corner of the castle. Jack opened a narrow door, and they climbed a twisting staircase up to the highest point of the castle.
Rose fell in love with the room instantly. The rose stained glass window cast a pink glow on the bed, and the candles off to the side suffused the space with a warm light. It felt like… like she belonged here.
“I was going to give her this room,” the Doctor said as he laid her down on the bed. “I thought it could be her private retreat, when she needed to be alone.”
Those words made her ache with how much he knew her and loved her, and yearn to bring a smile back to his face by waking up. This couldn’t be the way their story ended. She cast about, trying to think of a way to break a sleeping enchantment, and the idea came to her just as Jack suggested it.
“You know, in all the stories, the princess is awakened by True Love’s Kiss.” Surprisingly for Jack, those words were uttered with absolute sincerity and not a hint of suggestive undertone.
Yes! Rose cried out, imagining she was pressing her hand to the Doctor’s cheek. Just kiss me.
But her prince shook his head. “True Love’s Kiss only works in fairy tales.” He brushed his knuckles over her cheekbone, then straightened and walked out of the room, leaving Rose to her dreams.
“You seem a little defensive.” Tony called out, his stride was casual and his helmet was disengaged as he moved toward you.
You felt a tinge of guilt pass through your body. Regardless of what was going on around you, no matter the fight raging on between the heroes of your world and even though you were a super solider, one thing about Tony remained firm in your heart. He was your brother.
Lowering your palm and showing your face once again, you let your nerves relax enough to speak to Tony, “it’s been a long day.”
Bucky and Steve didn’t share your train of thought. Though Steve straightened up and moved to stand beside you, Bucky remained where he stood, his gun still pointed right at Tony. You understood why, Bucky didn’t know Tony in any way. He just knew that Tony was one of the many out to get him and he couldn’t easily trust that there was a sudden change of heart.
“At ease soldier, I’m not currently after you.” Tony quipped, his ever-present sarcastic attitude lining his tone.
“Then why are you here?” You asked with a roll of your eyes. You’d had enough of the bullshit that had been surrounding you for the past couple days. None of this was necessary, your head was in shambles and you just wanted to be through with all of the nonsense.
“I figured that if my little sister is so adamant about running off with these toy soldiers, then maybe their story isn’t so crazy after all.” Tony answered with a shrug, his eyes seeming to search for your soul as he spoke. “Ross has no idea I’m here and I’d like to keep it that way. Otherwise, I gotta arrest myself.”
It was something deeper than that and you knew it was. Tony didn’t just go against his own beliefs, something that he fought for without reason. He was always a convincing liar but you were trained to see through that, and you knew him better than anyone else. He had some kind of information that he wasn’t going to give up, not until all of this was resolved.
You kept your suspicions to yourself, letting Steve be the first one to speak up, “It’s good to see you, Tony.”
“You too, Cap.” Tony gave Steve a friendly nod, paired with a faint smirk before turning his attentions to Bucky. “Hey, Manchurian Candidate, you’re killing me. There’s a trace here, you can drop..” Tony’s voice faded when you waved an arm at Bucky, making him lower his weapon instantly. Tony’s eyes flitted between the two of you before his hand mirrored the gesture, “I don’t get this whole...thing.”
“You don’t have to get it.” You grumbled, pushing past your brother with the three men on your heels as you lead the way through your former home, proceeding with caution.
Stepping through a door, you couldn’t stop the gasp that rocked through your chest. The soldiers from your past were all lined up, frozen in cryo chambers.
“No heartbeats.” Tony confirmed the very thing you were seeing on the screen in from of your face.
You felt your jaw clench involuntarily, a heat of anger climbing through your inner chest. The goal was to stop them but something about seeing their lifeless faces with a bullet hole in each one of their heads, hit a nerve within you. Tears pricked your eyes as you looked over the familiar soldiers, memories of each one flashing through your mind while you tried to hold your composure. It could have been you. Your body could have been part of this very line up, but because you were a good little soldier for long enough, you were spared the fate that the others had met.
A voice cut over the PA system, shaking you from your shock and you quickly learned that it was Zemo. “If it’s any comfort, they died in their sleep. Did you really think I wanted more of you? Two is enough.” You felt your breath catch in the back of your throat, making you stop in your traces as Zemo continued. “I’m grateful to them though, they brought you here.”
A light flickered on across the room, revealing Zemo’s face through a small window in a heavy metal door. Acting on reflex, Tony aimed his palm at the spot while Steve whipped his shield at the door only to have it ricochet right back to him. He caught it with ease just as Zemo began again.
“Please, Captain.” Zemo sighed, sounding as if he’d already won the war. “The Soviets built this chamber to withstand the launch blast of UR-100 rockets.” He laughed before glancing at you and Bucky, “but your friends already knew that.”
“You killed innocent people in Vienna just to bring us here?” Steve asked, stomping toward the door with a fierce conviction.
“I’ve thought about nothing else for over a year.” Zemo admitted with a confident whisper. “I studied you. I followed you. But now that you’re standing here, I just realized,” Zemo leaned a bit closer to the glass of the window, “there’s a bit of green in the blue of your eyes. How nice to find a flaw.”
He was toying with Steve, a playful joy dancing in his eyes. Even through your suit, you could feel the irritation rolling off of the captain in waves, surprised he was still able to keep his composure.
“You’re Sokovian.” It wasn’t a question, Steve was able to pick up Zemo’s accent and study it before making the deduction. “Is that what this is about?”
“Sokova was a failed state long before you blew it to Hell. No,” Zemo swallowed hard, his expression shifting to something more grave, “I’m here because I made a promise.”
“You lost someone.” You blurted out the realization before you had a chance to process it.
“I lost everyone.” Zemo answered, his eyes finding your helmet. “And so will you.”
That’s what it was all about and it put a knot in your stomach. You knew that when people went through grief that they could become dangerous and judging by the trouble that Zemo went to just to lure you into his trap, he was more dangerous than you ever could have imagine. Your heart rate increased rapidly as you considered that you, and the men that you cared the most about, probably wouldn’t make it out alive.
Zemo flipped a switch within the chamber, making an old computer beside Steve come to life before speaking once again. “An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again, but one which crumbles from within? That’s dead. Forever.”
Tony moved closer as the video on the computer started to play while both you and Bucky kept your attention on Zemo. That was until a small, familiar voice came through the speakers.
“What are we doing today, maestru?” The little girl asked, skipping into view beside Bucky who was taking slow strides to the center of the room.
It was dull and dim, there were mirrors lining the walls and mats covering the floor. Though it was such a dreary place, the little still wore a smile as she looked up into the soldier’s eyes. She couldn’t have been much older than five years old but the clothes wore showed that she was certainly there to train. She could barely keep still, rocking from the heels of her feet to the tips of her toes over and over as excitement buzzed through her system.
“You seem eager today, floricea.” Bucky chuckled, placing his hands on her shoulders to stop her fidgeting.
Disengaging your helmet, you let your eyes find Bucky’s. There was a pain eating away at him from the inside out as his teary eyes locked with yours. He shook his head, mouthing ‘I’m sorry’ at you and you felt your stomach drop, your thoughts confirmed as your tiny voice magnetized your eyes back to the screen along with Steve and Tony’s.
“If I do good then I get to go out on missions!” She said excitedly, a big grin revealing a few missing teeth crossed her face.
“That’s right.” Bucky smiled back before turning his head. The pleasantries quickly evaporated as he was unable to find her eyes again. There was a sour expression digging into his features for a brief moment before his face hardened.
“I have to say the words.” He warned the girl. “Are you ready?”
Suddenly, the color drained from her face. She shook her head swiftly, taking cautious steps backward from where Bucky stood. The shift from thrilled to frightened was almost instantaneous.
“I don’t want the words.” She whined, a few tears freeing themselves from her eyes.
“You know this is part of the training.” Bucky cautioned. “You have to do this, floricea.” The girl wiped the tears from her face and nodded, silently convincing herself to be strong. Her eyes met Bucky’s and she took a deep breath.
“I’m ready.”
“No.” The word left your lips as a faint whisper, your eyes going wide as your chest tightened.
“Dor.” Bucky uttered the word, his hands clasped behind his back as he began to circle around the girl.
“Ruginite.” The girl winced.
You felt a dull stab in your temple, your face scrunching up at the pain.
“Şaptesprezece.”
Your palms started to sweat. A wave of nausea washed over you and the pain in your temple was turning into a faint migraine.
“Zori.”
“No.” The girl whimpered, still holding onto what little bits of herself still remained. Bucky circled around her until they faced one another once again.
“Cuptor.” The girl pushed her the heels of her palms into her temples, her whines turning into dull cries.
“Nouă.”
“Stop!” You shouted, doubling over with your hands gripped around your head as a high-pitched whine scratch over the surface your brain. Bucky made to step toward you, but Steve was quick to rest a comforting hand to your back, asking if you were okay. Tony’s eyes found the guilt ridden ones of Bucky as he slowly started putting the pieces together.
“Mulțumit de sine.”
“What did you do to her?” Tony screamed, stepping toward Bucky, no longer caring that there was gun pointed at his chest. “What the Hell did you do?”
“Sosire.” The screams coming from the girl were blood-curdling. She was crouched down before Bucky, her eyes sealed shut. No matter how she screamed, the words still tore through to her mind.
“Unu.”
“I didn’t,” Bucky started to explain himself, cutting short when your screams started to resemble the ones coming from the speakers. Bucky knew what was next and he was completely terrified. It was hurting him that you were already going through pain but to watch you become what you once were was unbearable.
“Masina de transport de marfă.” The screaming stopped. The girl lifted her head, a trickle of thick blood streaming from her nose. Her eyes were devoid of any emotion, she was almost like a shell without a spirit.
Much like you were in that same moment. You stood straight, keeping your gaze forward to the wall as you ignored Steve’s voice. The blood on your face went unacknowledged as you turning your head to find Bucky staring at you along with Tony. His gun was lowered, his face drained of life and his chest swelling with an unreleased breath.
“Soldat?”
“Y/N?” Bucky’s broken voice struggled out your name but you were gone.
“Gata să conforma.” The voice of your younger self intermingled with the voice currently leaving your lips as the emotionless phrase fell from your blood stained lips.
“Ucide.”
The order was given. With your mind free of any thought, your helmet came over your face. You lifted your palm and fired a blast straight at your brother.
Once Upon a Dream - Loki x Reader [Chapter 4]
Warnings: angst, fighting, blood, gore, character death (not really but also kind of yes?) vulgar language, amnesia  Word Count: 8K Chapter summary: You need to guard the tesseract and make sure the portal stays open - even if it means fighting Thor. Unexpected events lead to a tragic situation that only a miracle can fix. Loki seems to have a heart wrenching solution for that. Author’s Note: I’m sorry for being so slow with updates. I’ll try to grab myself from the neck now 🥺 Once again, I’m not following canon 100% so forgive me for the differences. Listen to: OUAD playlist on Spotify
THIRD POV
[CH 4 I Dreamed A Dream]
~   But there are dreams that cannot be And there are storms we cannot weather   ~
“I won’t let you stop him, Thor.”
“And I can’t let you help him.”
“So be it,” Y/N was disappointed that even Loki’s own brother couldn’t understand. She was ready to fight.
The sword felt light in her hand although it had been a while since she had last picked it up. Without wasting more time, she ran toward Thor who seemed to be waiting for her. She didn’t have time to mope around.
Just as she raised the blade dangerously, Thor shielded himself with his hammer. To his surprise, the impact of her sword was much stronger than he had anticipated and he had to brace himself harder. Even with the power of the Mjolnir against her sword, he struggled to push her off him.
“Why do you look so surprised?” Y/N asked him through gritted teeth, finding encouragement in the look of disbelief on Thor’s face. She poured power from her soul and into the sword, making it more effective the longer they stood like that.
“Just getting started, that’s all,” He brushed the look off his face and replaced it with a grin. Surprisingly, he used his legs to kick at her, forcing her to step back. As she attempted to strike him with the sharp sword, Thor threw the Mjolnir right at it. Both weapons flew off into the distance and Thor ran toward Y/N.
She didn’t have time to pick up her sword as she prepared for Thor’s tackle. As he wrapped his arms around her waist, she jumped and clung to his back tightly. Thor hadn’t expected her to jump, so when she kneed him in the chest, his grip loosened. It was the perfect distraction for her to kick herself off his body and let him stumble forward.
They turned around to face each other once more. This time, Thor was closer to the balcony and he stood between Y/N and her sword. The Mjolnir returned to his hand smoothly, leaving Y/N unarmed. But not for long.
Thor held onto Mjolnir a little tighter as if to show her that she couldn’t stop him. If she tried, she’d have to face the hammer.
Y/N wasn’t afraid of Thor or his hammer. She was so overwhelmed with power that she could feel it all over her skin, like electricity. It was warm and difficult to contain for much longer. The magic within her was practically begging to be released. Adrenaline was rushing through her body as well and she could feel the blood boiling in her veins. Nothing could stop her now.
The two of them eyed each other so intensely, both ready to attack if the other moved. Y/N was trying to think of a way to go past him so she could guard the tesseract. Thor was willing to do anything to stop her so they could put an end to the madness around them.
Time felt like it was frozen when they were face to face. By now, Y/N allowed her power to grow around her hands. The energy around them absorbed into the orbs in her hands and grew quickly, casting a glow in the apartment. Holding onto so much power made Y/N confident.
Thor watched how her power grew and he knew he had to stop her. He remembered how she had defeated dozens of enemies with one blow when she let her powers get the best of her.
Quickly, he swung his hammer and threw it at her, hoping to pin her down in time.
A smirk plastered her face as she had expected that. Thor could be so predictable. Smoothly, she used her power to hoist herself up in the air, allowing the hammer to continue past her and into the wall, smashing it in its way. As she had the upper hand, she released the blasts at Thor’s both sides so he couldn’t dodge it.
Thor leapt forward on the floor to avoid the merciless blasts that were ought to swallow him whole. Just as he landed on the floor, he felt the heel of Y/N’s foot on his hand and she stepped on it. Thor grunted out in pain as he failed to free his hand - and to summon Mjolnir with that hand. She stepped on his hand with all her strength and it made Thor cringe with discomfort.
“You’re in my way,” Y/N spat coldly, looking down at Thor who was struggling. Magic was growing around her hands once more, creating a cloud of green.
Thor didn’t like the sight of her with that much power. The look on her face was intimidating. Thor had seen in a few times before in his life and nothing good ever followed from it. This was a woman who was ready to do anything for her freedom and to aid Loki on his journey too.
She was so close that he could feel the heat radiating from her and it was painful. He reached out to Mjolnir with his other hand and hoped it would reach his palm in time.
“If I go, you go,” Thor let her know mysteriously.
Just as she released her power and directed it at him, she felt something hit her ankle hard and painfully. Mjolnir!
Thor didn’t have time to get out of the way and had to take the blow against his back. Her powers were torturous, even through his armour. The floor beneath them crushed and Y/N lost her balance, falling down the hole with Thor. They plummeted down several floors until finally, one of the levels managed to brace their fall.
Y/N hit the floor harshly and rolled over a few times. The moment she stopped rolling, she forced herself back on her feet and she ignored the pain of the impact. Taking in her surroundings, she noticed that they were on an office floor. All the people who would’ve usually been there working were now gone. Thor was nowhere to be seen.
“Fuck,” She cursed quietly and narrowed her eyes, scanning her surroundings and prepared herself for a surprise attack. The hole in the ceiling was still cracking up, but it was so small that it wouldn’t do much more damage. Small bits and pieces fell out of it in a dust cloud.
Despite the Chitauri army wreaking havoc outside, it was oddly quiet in the Stark tower. So quiet in fact that she could hear her own heartbeat drumming in her chest.
In order to be as silent as she could, Y/N used her powers to levitate just above the floor and move forward without making a single sound. Thor couldn’t have gotten far.
As she turned around a corner to look beyond the rows and rows of office desks, she still couldn’t see him which was odd. Thor didn’t seem like the type of enemy who hid and plotted his next attack. He seemed more like the direct action kind of guy.
That’s when a thought struck her mind. Had he flown back up to the highest level to destroy the portal?
Annoyed that she had wasted time looking for him down there, she groaned and returned to the hole in the ceiling. She collected more energy for a few brief seconds and then flew right back up again, landing smoothly on the ground as she reached the correct level. Just as she had thought, she saw Thor on the balcony trying to talk to the doctor who was working on the portal.
His cowardliness was infuriating.
On her way to the balcony, she picked up her sword. It was still charged with energy, and Thor hadn’t looked over his shoulder yet to see her. He probably expected her to be down there looking for him for just a bit longer. He was wrong.
It was all a surprise to Thor when she leapt at him and swung her sword against his armour. Thor stumbled forward, but he had remained unharmed but it was only a matter of time before the blade would pierce the Asgardian armour. He turned around and pushed the sword off of him with his hammer. Seeing Y/N right behind him that cold look in her eyes sent shivers down his spine.
They were standing outside now and the edge of the balcony was awfully close. Erik Selvig had returned to his station and he seemed unbothered by the two of them. He was only focused on the tesseract and keeping the portal open.
“Clever trick,” Y/N admitted, “but I’m no fool.”
“ I should’ve expected so much from someone of your kind,” Thor realized now. Any ally of Loki’s was just as slippery as the Trickster himself.
Y/N walked closer to him and Thor took a step back. She remained cautious because he could just as easily throw her off the edge as she could do that to him.
“You can still stop this-”
“Never!”
Thor was disappointed to hear her answer. If the circumstances were different, he would’ve been happy to see how committed she was. But he couldn’t allow things to progress. He had sworn to protect this realm, even from her and Loki. If he failed today, he would fail himself, his father and all of Asgard.
“How can you trust Loki?” Thor wondered. “He is the god of lies and tricks, Y/N. There is no guarantee that his bargain with you will uphold once all of this is over.”
“You don’t get it, Thor!” Y/N growled angrily. She almost laughed at his attempt of winning her over. “What Loki and I have goes deeper than mere words.”
As she spoke, Thor tried to come up with a plan to defeat her. He glanced to her side, looking at the sturdy wall to see if he could leap at her and use it for support, but she caught the movement of his eye just in time.
As Thor lunged at her once again, she met his attack with her sword. Thor nearly ran straight into the tip of the blade, but he stopped. It gave her a chance to swing it at him, forcing Thor to take a step back and hit the wall. With one swift move, she pointed it at his throat, making Thor tilt his jaw up to avoid injuries. He tried to move his hammer, but she pushed the sword tighter against him, almost breaking his skin.
“Don’t even think about it!” Y/N warned him against using the hammer.
Thor was trapped.
It would’ve been easy to push it further, but Y/N’s muscles felt like stone. Her hands were trembling as she held her sword that was pressing against Thor’s neck. One wrong move and he would suffer greatly.
“I know there’s still good in you,” Thor dared to say. If she was evil, she would’ve taken advantage of their position by now.
“I never said I’m evil, Thor. We’re just two ends of the same coin,” She knew that comparing him to her would infuriate him. There was little he could do as he stood here.
She didn’t want to kill him. Her heart said no to that wile act. Instead, she would trap him with her magic. With one hand, she kept the sword in place as she used her magic to glue Thor against the wall. The glowing material surrounded Thor’s limbs and it grew brighter and brighter.
Thor was panicking now. He didn’t want to be trapped by her magic, but he couldn’t do much without risking great injuries. After pondering his choices for a while, Thor tried to move only to learn that he couldn’t. The brightness died down and when he looked at his arms and legs, he saw that they were chained.
Y/N pulled her sword away and stepped back, looking at her creation in awe. Thor was truly tied down now.
“I hope it’s comfortable,” She smiled a little bit and tightened the chains without even touching them, forcing Thor to lose his grip on Mjolnir. It fell down on the floor right next to him. He looked helpless as he struggled against the chains. Thor seemed like a lost child when he realized he wasn’t winning the fight. “You’re going to be like that for a while.”
“Are you too afraid to fight me?” Thor wondered, trying to rile her up so she would lose focus on the chains and he could break free. After all, keeping up the magical bounds would drain her of energy sooner or later. If she had used real chains and charged them with power, it would’ve been easier, but she hadn’t had a better option.
She put on a thoughtful look and leaned against the wall next to him just to mock the god of thunder, “I think I already did.”
Thor looked around him desperately. The Chitauri were destroying everything in their way and he knew that the people were terrified. The portal was a fierce eyesore in the sky and it didn’t seem to stop spitting out enemies. For a moment, he felt truly defeated. He wondered if creating thunder and blasting her with lightning could help. Could he do that without holding his hammer?
All seemed to go according to Y/N’s plan until an arrow appeared out of nowhere. Clint had seen them from a distance and he hadn’t hesitated to shoot at Y/N in order to help Thor out.
Y/N had been so focused on Thor that she didn’t have time to react. The arrow pierced her through her abdomen and she could feel it hit the wall behind her through her skin.The shock of it all was enough to break the spell and the chains that held Thor down cracked into bits and pieces. It snapped in several links and then just vanished into thin air.
Just like that, Thor was free again.
Y/N looked down at the arrow that was sticking out of her stomach and the sight made her sick. She dropped her sword and immediately put her hands around the wound, feeling hot blood pooling around it and through her fingers.
“Oh no,” She breathed out in pain. Right now, it hurt more in her soul rather than it did physically. Adrenaline numbed her to a point where she didn’t have to experience the raw pain of it all - yet.
Thor was genuinely worried for her, although it had been of great help. Now that he was free and she was injured, he could shut the portal. But first, he needed to help her. Despite it all, Y/N was Asgardian. He knew that now and he couldn’t let her suffer. If he did, Loki would lose it and Thor didn’t want Loki to find hidden strength in a moment of despair. It was odd how people found strength they didn’t know they had until they truly needed it.
“Sit down,” He tried to help her.
“No! Y/N refused to let him help her. Thor’s mistake was that he assumed the blow had weakened her. For the moment he had tried to reach out for her, she used all her strength to create strong energy blasts. She aimed them at Thor and sent him flying right off the edge of the balcony.
Thor yelled out in surprise and fell out of her sight. Moments later, the hammer was summoned by him but Y/N didn’t see or hear him anymore.
As she was all alone, the reality of the situation weighed down on her. There was an arrow pointing out of her stomach and it had possibly pierced some vital parts of her. She knew she couldn’t run around with it inside of her, but she also knew that if she was to pull it out, she would bleed out.
Somehow hers shaking legs carried her inside to safety. She collapsed on the floor and finally, the pain got to her. It burned agonizingly and every time she moved even in the slightest, it grew worse. Y/N forced herself to sit on the floor and she leaned against the back of the sofa. She could still watch the balcony from there and whoever walked inside from the other entrances wouldn’t even see her. So for now, she had no choice but to stay there.
“Ah shit,” She cursed when she ripped her clothes around the arrow to see it better. The surrounding skin was tender to touch and blood was dripping out of it. Had it pierced her back? It had felt like it, but Y/N couldn’t be sure and she wasn’t keen on finding out either. Instead, she closed her eyes for a moment and attempted to heal herself. Could any amount of magic truly heal that? One thing was for sure, she had to try.
As she sat there, a smile curled up her lips. Out of all her enemies, Hawkeye had managed to harm her. It was almost comedic to her - if it wasn’t for the fact that she was in serious danger.
“Oh Loki, I hope you’re doing better than me,” She thought out loud.
Where was Loki when she needed him the most?
                      A nearby explosion followed by glass smashing burst Y/N’s bubble of thoughts. How long had she been healing herself? Her eyes felt weary and she had lost track of time. As she looked around, she saw Loki rolling over on the balcony. The sight of him was a surprise and for a moment, she was relieved to see him.
Unfortunately, the relief didn’t last long because the next person to join the party was the raging beast. The Hulk barely had time to land on the balcony before he leapt at Loki. The two of them rolled inside and broke more windows on their way in. Loki separated from the beast and he hit his head on the floor hard. Despite how painful the impact looked, he got back up on his feet like it was nothing.
Y/N knew that her wound was still too bad for her to get up there and face the Hulk. But she was on standby. If Loki needed her, she wasn’t going to let an arrow stop her. So far, they hadn’t noticed her sitting behind the couch with bloody hands. Everything hurt so bad, but she almost forgot about the pain when she looked at the Hulk. Surely, she’d be breakfast for him if he got his hands on her. She didn’t like the thought of that at all.
“ENOUGH!” Loki suddenly yelled. He sounded so done with everything, provoked even. She knew instantly that something was pushing on his mind. It couldn’t be good.
She grunted in pain as she moved closer. Loki was holding a furious speech and to her surprise, the Hulk had actually stopped for a second to listen.
“- I will not be bullied by aah!” Loki was caught off guard when he was attacked. The Hulk grabbed him by his legs and brutally smashed him against the ground repeatedly. In his strong arms, Loki was like a rag doll. He didn’t even put up a fight.
Y/N couldn’t just sit there and look at the mess. It physically pained her to see Loki treated like that. When she got back up her feet clumsily, the Hulk dropped Loki on the floor and he stayed down. The wind was knocked out of him and he stared at the ceiling, completely stunned.
“Puny god…”
“Stop it! She yelled at the Hulk with tears in her eyes.
He looked at her and prepared to attack, but when he saw the arrow, even the Hulk let his guard down. Not for long, but he certainly inspected the situation.
Cautiously, she made her way closer to Loki, only one step at the time. Her eyes never left the Hulk’s. He looked so angry behind the grimace, but he didn’t attack her for some odd reason.
“Please, just let me help him,” She whispered now. Healing her wound without many results had drained her energy and she was beginning to feel weak and nauseated. The sight of Loki like that didn’t help much.
Loki hadn’t moved at all. He just laid there and whimpered in pain as he struggled to breathe. Had he even acknowledged Y/N’s presence at all?
When she was deemed too close to Loki, the Hulk tightened his fists and took a step forward. Before she would face him in a fight, another person joined them.
“Step back!” Natasha had arrived. When? Y/N had no clue. Miraculously, the Hulk listened to her but he wasn’t happy about it. He murmured something nasty about gods underneath his breath and walked away like a grumpy child.
In shock, Y/N turned to face Natasha. Why had she stepped in to help her? That was a mystery but Y/N was genuinely thankful for that.
Without exchanging words, Natasha just watched as Y/N fell on her knees beside Loki, unable to keep herself up for much longer. The Black Widow didn’t see her as much of a threat by now so she didn’t intervene. They had much bigger problems to think about now that Loki was down.
The first thing Y/N checked was Loki’s breath. She had heard his whimpers, but to feel his breath against her palm was a huge relief.
“Hey,” She cupped his face in an attempt to gain his attention. He didn’t react to her voice at all. His eyes were closed shut and it almost resembled sleep. If only he was just asleep. The wound on his forehead was bleeding, but it was only a scratch compared to his other injuries.
“Loki, wake up,” She didn’t realize how beaten she was until now. Loki was unconscious and she had an arrow sticking out of her which was beginning to drain the rest of her energy. Everything became more difficult, even breathing. The pain was so overwhelming that it was hard to even think straight.
She could either try to heal herself more in order to put up a fight against the Avengers, or she could try to heal him. Time was their enemy. As much as it frightened her, she decided to help him.
With both hands on the sides of his face, she leaned against Loki as much as she could without the bloody arrow getting in the way. Her forehead rested against his gently and then she focused on all her power, directing into him. When she felt her magic blending in with his, it almost felt like someone was tickling her gently. His magic crashed against hers like waves on a stormy sea. The more she borrowed her magic to him, the harder it was to continue. The tickling sensation turned into something heavy and miserable. By now it felt like Loki’s magic had grabbed onto her very soul and it was tugging at it.
Eventually, Loki opened his eyes. As soon as he realized what was going on, he stopped her.
“Y/N!” He repeated her name a few times so she would snap out of it. The flow of energy stopped and her body collapsed. Loki sat up and grabbed her just in time before the arrow would've pushed through her completely.
Gently, he turned them over so she was on her back. Luckily, the arrow hadn’t pierced her back which meant she could lay down on the floor When he saw the arrow, Loki felt sick to his stomach. The sight felt like a punch in the gut and it troubled him greatly. How had this happened?
Loki’s first instinct was to find the agent who was responsible for this and make him pay for what he had done, but when he learned just how terrible Y/N’s condition was, he couldn’t even consider leaving her side. Loki felt guilty. It weighed down on his shoulders and he regretted dragging her into this. Once again, they were facing misery. It was like fate was testing them. When would it stop? When could they be happy?
He didn’t give a damn about the war, nor the portal. As long as he could help her, Loki would face the consequences. Right now, he couldn’t think about anything or anyone else than her.
Y/N looked at Loki’s concerned expression and it hurt her. Seeing him injured and so worried over her was like a knife in the heart. But at least he seemed to be alright. He was going to make it.
“I’m sorry,” She apologized, feeling the need to do so. In her mind, she had failed him. In a moment that could’ve turned out victorious for them, she had let her guard down and Hawkeye had managed to get a good shot at her.
“Don’t apologize,” Loki was quick to say something. “You’ll be alright,” He wasn’t entirely sure if he believed that himself. He forced himself to look at the wound and it was worse than he had imagined. How long had she had it in her? Why wasn’t her healing powers working against it?
A realization sent shivers down Loki’s spine. As happy as he was when he knew she would survive, he felt miserable. They had just found themselves again. This moment reminded him of the past. When he had lost her before. It was too similar and it wrecked him on the inside.
At least he could keep his promise. She’d be alright.
Natasha was watching them from a safe distance, but she didn’t focus on what they were saying. There were too many other issues she had to think about. She was willing to let Loki help her as long as he wouldn’t try anything else. By now, the portal had been closed and the others were finishing up their tasks. She was still waiting for Tony’s update. Last time the team had heard of him, there had been talk about a bomb. Tony had told them he had an idea.
The Hulk had left the building as he struggled to contain his rage near Loki. Natasha hoped that she could get some backup soon, but she also felt oddly confident in the situation. Loki seemed like he only had eyes for Y/N and nothing and no one else in that moment.
“I can help you,” Loki wanted her to understand that his intention was good. His lips were quivering now and he failed to mask how upset he was.
Despite how exhausted and weak she was, she picked up on that. “What are you talking about?”
Loki moved slightly so he was sitting comfortably right next to her. He helped her move so she could rest her hair on his lap. It was easier to work when she was closer to him like that.
“I’m going to have to remove this,” Loki explained carefully and glanced at the arrow.
Y/N followed the trail of his eyes. The idea of him pulling it out of her was gnarly and she knew it wouldn’t feel nice. What did she have to lose?
“Do you trust me?” Loki needed her answer.
It was scary, but she wasn’t afraid to trust him, “I do.”
Tears were gathering in the corners of Loki’s eyes. His mind was blocking out everything else. He refused to waste energy by thinking about their defeat or Thanos. Now all he could do was focus on her and making sure she’d live.
He grabbed the arrow and took a deep breath as if to prepare himself for the inevitable. Y/N gave him a nod which encouraged him to pull it out. Carefully, he began tugging at it. He could feel every little movement as he removed the arrow which was sickening. How could anyone hurt her? Loki didn’t understand that. He blamed himself for not being there to watch her back.
Once the arrow was removed, crimson blood oozed out of the wound and soaked her clothes and eventually the floor. She winced out in pain and squeezed her eyes shut. Loki had no time to waste.
“It’ll be okay very soon,” Loki promised her sincerely. He bent down to press a comforting kiss on her forehead, one that he knew he would savour for as long as he’d live. She didn’t respond to him, but she heard his voice clear as day.
Loki took one last glance at her. It felt like goodbye all over again. In a way, it was. Then he put his palm right above the wound, feeling the hot blood on his skin. He closed his eyes and focused entirely on healing her.
When Y/N felt the pain subside ever so slightly, she tried to face Loki. Her vision was blurry and she could hardly see past him. Instead of his usual green magic, a white light began to grow around his palm. It surrounded her wound instantly and began to spread all around them, until they were inside a shield of magic. The pure energy of it all was so strong. If anyone from the outside had tried to reach them, they wouldn’t have been able to do so.
Y/N watched in awe as the air around them turned into a whirlwind. It was gentle but it played with his hair. Next thing she knew, Loki opened his eyes and they were white. It looked like all the colour had been drained from them and they shone so brightly that it was nearly impossible to look directly into them. What was he doing?
“I need you to know that I’m sorry,” Loki turned to face her. Was he crying?
“W-why?”
Loki was quiet for a moment. That’s when Y/N picked up another source of light. It came from her own palm. As she looked at it, she saw the stars again. Why were they shining? One star in particular stuck out. Unlike the other stars that shone just as brightly as the other, this one was more intense.
“I never meant to drag you into this. This was never supposed to happen,” Loki was talking about everything that had happened. In his mind, they should’ve been together, possibly on Asgard. They deserved to be happy. But life had been cruel and separated them. Was this a direct result of all their wrong choices?
“I chose to be by your side,” Y/N remembered. By now, speaking felt immensely difficult. Her body wanted to sleep. Her eyes hardly stayed open. The idea of accepting the darkness that so desperately wanted to surround her was tempting. It no longer scared her.
Loki lifted his palm from her wound. As he did that, she noticed that the stars beneath his skin were shining as well. The magic he was using was strong, but strange. Why did it feel so familiar?
When Loki reached for her hand and touched it, she didn’t feel his touch anymore. Everything was so numb. The lack of feeling made her feel so shallow.
All of a sudden Y/N felt her heart skip a beat. Right afterwards Loki let go of her hand. The star from her palm suddenly raised above and floated in the air right underneath Loki’s hand. One of his stars joined it and they watched how the small lights danced together. In a bizarre way, it was beautiful. Calming, even.
Carefully, as if he was trying not to drop something, Loki moved the stars toward the brutal wound. The lights merged into one bigger star and it twinkled a few times. It almost looked like a diamond with a million cut edges. The magic that was stored within it was so powerful it could’ve moved oceans apart. Even though Y/N was weak and she felt like she would succumb to nothingness at any moment now, she could feel the magic in her soul.
“I wish there was another way,” Loki’s voice was quiet. Then he lowered the star and pressed his palm above her wound again. This time, he could feel the change. It closed as the magic began to heal her.
Loki knew that soon enough, they would be strangers again. It tore his heart to pieces, but he knew it was for the best. He was going to make sure she wouldn’t suffer for the consequences of his actions and then he would leave her in the past - forever. They had tried to make things work out several times, but it had never been successful. In his mind, he brought misfortune to her. Everything he touched seemed to turn to dust.
“Goodbye,” Loki whispered his farewell to her, unsure if she could hear. She was blessed with a fresh start, but he would be cursed with knowledge, with their memories.
“I love you.”
As if someone had breathed life into her lungs for her, Y/N gasped dramatically. She blinked and the next time she opened her eyes, she was in an entirely different place.
Everything turned pitch black. The darkness enveloped her completely.
Where am I?
Who am I?
Thoughts swirled in her head as she stood in the middle of nowhere, all alone. How did she get there?
When something flashed by her side, it startled her. Y/N turned around but she was too slow. The mysterious figure had already vanished.
“Hello?” She called out for anyone who could hear her frightened voice.
Another flash of light caught her attention. And another. another. It didn’t stop until she saw countless of figures all around her. Where did they come from? They were all whispering something, but she couldn’t make sense of it. Their voices merged together into one big mess that grew louder and louder until it hurt her ears.
There was no use in hiding. There were no places to run for shelter. She was surrounded by these mysterious flashes and they terrified her.
It quickly overwhelmed her. Y/N covered her face with her hands in an attempt to block out the bizarre creatures around her. A few seconds passed and everything turned silent again. Her heart was beating hard. It felt like it had leapt to her throat at this point. Did she dare to look?
It took every ounce of courage she had to remove the hands from her face. When she did, she saw a figure standing right in front of her.
“Who are you?!” She wasn’t even sure who she was, but it was the first thing that came to mind. Did the stranger know how scared she was?
He just stood there. His emerald eyes didn’t move. As she looked at him longer, she realized that he didn’t move at all. He was completely frozen in time.
Her eyes scanned the other figures that stood all around them. No one moved, but they all stared at her ominously. Being surrounded by these people with no way out was like a nightmare. The place seemed never-ending. The figures were in rows as far as her eyes could see.
Several of them resembled the man who stood right in front of her. They looked younger, some seemed older. There were several faces in the crowd, but this one stuck out the most. His raven hair and piercing gaze were somehow familiar. So Y/N decided to be brave and face him one more time.
“Can you hear me?” She wondered. Her voice echoed in the odd space.
Instead of saying something to her, the man reached out his hand. When she looked at his outstretched hand, she noticed something that resembled stars right above his palm. They were mesmerizing and it was hard to look away. The lights had a gravity to them.
There were nine stars in total, but only six of them were twinkling with light. Three of them were dull, like a dying fire. It reminded her of darkened coal. Burned to an end.
Did he want her to touch them? Why wasn’t he speaking?
“What are they?” She needed to know.
The man’s cold expression shifted into something more sympathetic. “Our lives, Y/N.”
Y/N?
That must’ve been her name. It felt right.
What did he mean by that?
“Am I dead?” She barely managed to push the words out of her mouth. The idea of being dead was startling, but it made sense.
“I suppose you could say that,” the man replied calmly, “but not for long.”
Not for long?
“What do you mean?” Y/N had to know. Her poor heart felt like it was going to explode. Nothing made sense and she felt so lost and lonely.
“Once you are ready, you can return to your third life.”
Third life?
A shocked laugh escaped her lips, “This is madness.”
“Is it?” The man questioned her mysteriously.
Silence fell over them. Only this time, it didn’t feel as scary. Y/N studied the countless of faces all around her. Some of them belonged to a boy. An older man also shared that face so she assumed it was the same person. She saw a man and a woman who were always standing next to each other, no matter how many duplicates they had. One of the people around her always held onto a hammer. One was missing an eye. And there were so many more.
Why was this person the one talking to her? And why did she feel so sentimental about this stranger? Were they strangers or had she forgotten him?
“Who are you?” She repeated her earlier question.
“I’m merely a memory,” he explained, “you’ll have to find me again.”
By now she knew that he wasn’t going to give her any direct answers. The best thing she could do was to take in all the details on his face. If there was a chance that she could find him, she was definitely going to do so. He was the only clue she had on anything.
“How do I return to it?” Y/N questioned him after a while. This strange and dark place had nothing more to offer her. She felt ready to face whatever came next. The unknown was both frightening and ever so tempting. It made her curious.
“Take my hand,” The man instructed her. Although it was slightly strange, she trusted him.
And she did so. The moment she touched his hand and he closed his fingers around hers, the other figures vanished into thin air. The darkness began to fade and it felt like the world was caving in on them.
The man disappeared as well. For a moment, she was all by herself. Everything was fine, until the sensation of her falling took her by surprise. Y/N flinched and her eyes opened wide.
She noticed people all around her. They were all bloody and their clothes were dirty. The place they were in was fancy, but the broken furniture and windows were evidence of something awful that had happened. Did she die there?
Y/N was sitting on the floor and she wanted to stand up,  but a man was pointing an arrow at her.
“Don’t move,” He sounded angry.
“Woah,” She raised her arms in surrender, not wishing to die and return to that dark world she just came back from. This man didn’t look anything like the one who had talked to her.
“Her spell is broken!” A familiar voice made both of them turn their heads. A tall man had said it and he was facing them with his back. Y/N saw a green cape and long, dark hair. She couldn’t believe her luck. It must’ve been the same man.
“You!” She smiled despite having an arrow pointed at her. “It’s you!” She couldn’t believe her eyes when he turned around and she saw his face. Then she saw the handcuffs and the blonde man who was holding onto him. Was he a prisoner?
“What’s going on?” A redheaded woman seemed confused by the situation. “I thought she was a goner.”
The man with the cape kept a cold look on his face, “She was for a moment. But she’s much tougher than you’d think.”
The blonde man tugged at his arm, “what did you say about a spell, Loki?”
Loki? So his name was Loki? Y/N tried to remember that as she watched them from the floor.
“Did you really think I would trust her to be loyal to me after everything? That I would leave the tesseract into her hands after we had spent so long apart?” Loki laughed mockingly and then faced her again, “I used something far stronger than the sceptre to turn her to my side. It seems like a little brush with death wore it off.”
She couldn’t believe her ears. The only clue she had was him and he was talking about putting a spell over her? Why did he sound so mean?
The redheaded woman made the guy lower his weapon and the arrow was no longer pointed at her.
“Can we trust him?” The arrow man seemed suspicious of it all.
“There’s only one way to find out,” The woman replied and knelt down on the floor next to Y/N. “How are you feeling?”
“I...I don’t understand. What’s going on?” Y/N needed to know. A terrible headache was forming in her head at an alarming rate. Her mind tried to put all the pieces together but absolutely nothing made sense. Not knowing anything or remembering anything was like hell.
“The wound is gone,” The woman noticed as she glanced at Y/N’s stomach.
What wound?
“Who are you?”
“Do you really not remember?” The woman narrowed her eyes and seemed to look right into her soul. She certainly had a tough expression.
Cautiously, Y/N shook her head no.
“I’m Natasha,” She introduced herself, but still remained suspicious. “We have to take you with us just in case you are tricking us,” She pointed at Loki as she spoke. Then rather gently, she helped Y/N up on her feet. “We’re going to get to the bottom of things.”
For a moment, Y/N felt lightheaded. She didn’t fight it as Natasha put handcuffs around her wrists. It’s like her mind was so overwhelmed by everything that she was unable to do much. Why were they in handcuffs?
“What happened?”
Everyone in the room shared strange glances. Why was there a huge, green person in the room as well? Why did he look so angry?
“Loki what did you do to her?” The blonde man wondered bitterly. Everyone seemed to blame Loki for this, whatever this was.
“I already told you, now didn’t I?” Loki was quick with his remark. The two of them seemed to have a complicated relationship. Their outfits resembled each other’s and stood out from everyone else there.
Natasha nudged Y/N gently so she would walk with her, “I usually know a liar when I see one. I think she’s genuinely confused,” she let everyone know.
Confused was an understatement.
“Okay all of you, let’s move!” A brown haired guy spoke. There was a strange blue light underneath his shirt that immediately caught Y/N’s attention. It was located right above his heart. He was also carrying a silver briefcase and he had what looked like guards on both his sides. Whatever he was carrying must’ve been priceless.
Everyone began to make their way into the elevator, including Natasha and Y/N. The green thing tried to get into the elevator as well, but it was full. All Y/N could do was to just stand next to Natasha and silently take in her surroundings. She didn’t know what to think of it all.
As the elevator doors closed, the green one hit it so hard that the metal bent. No one seemed surprised by it, but Y/N was shocked. How had he done that?
She turned around to look at Loki who now had his mouth covered by a metallic mouth guard.  Asking him anything at all would’ve been useless because there was no way he could answer with that thing on. No, she didn’t know what he had done or why he was treated like a prisoner, but it didn’t mean she didn’t feel for him. His face had appeared before her just a moment ago. Clearly, he was important.
And he didn’t even look at her.
Why did it hurt?
Loki was all she could think about when they were led out of the elevator. The ground level was swarmed with people. A lot of them wore suits and the overall tension in the space was obvious. Looking outside through the big windows, she could see destruction and smoke. It didn’t take a fool to know that something terrible had went down there, wherever they were.
They were stopped when a group of armed men walked right up to them, blocking the entrance.
“May I ask you where you’re going?” An older man questioned the man with the briefcase. It seemed serious.
“To lunch and then Asgard, and I’m sorry, you are?” The blonde one had let go of Loki as he answered the man’s question.
The man with the briefcase answered for him, “Alexander Pierce.  He's the man, one of the folks behind Nick Fury,” He explained the latter a little bit quieter.
Alexander didn’t want to waste any more time, “My friends call me Mr. Secretary. I'm gonna have to ask you to turn those prisoners over to me.”
Prisoners?
Y/N realized that only she and Loki were handcuffed. He must’ve been talking about them. The idea of going somewhere with Alexander Pierce made her uncomfortable for whatever reason. Like she wasn’t able to trust him at all.
“Loki will answer to Odin himself,” The tall blonde man explained, “and Y/N? She’s not really a prisoner. I think not.”
“Oh they’re going to answer to us, Odin can have what’s left...of Loki,” Alexander sounded quite sure of himself, “And I’m gonna need that case. That's been S.H.I.E.L.D. property for over 70 years,” He gestured toward the briefcase. Whatever was inside it was beginning to catch Y/N’s interest. Why were people fighting over it? She wanted to know what it was.
“What do you mean? Why are you keeping Y/N?” Briefcase guy wondered.
“She, just as the case, has been our property for years. We are not done with her!”
Their property? The sound of that made Y/N’s skin crawl. Why did they speak of her like she was less of a person? It made her sick to her stomach and she wanted to chew on the guy’s words, but decided to stay quiet for a little longer. The two guys were handling the situation just fine.
The authority over the briefcase quickly turned into an argument right before their eyes. As they fought over it, Y/N turned around to look at Loki. He was taking in his surroundings, studying every little thing he could see. Was he planning something?
For a moment, their eyes met and she could’ve sworn that his expression softened. It looked like he wanted to say something, but it was impossible. If she read his eyes correctly, she could tell that he was sorry. The man looked defeated and he had been quite sassy with everyone else. But now he looked at her with compassion, even if it was only for a second. She noticed it.
Everything came to a halt when the briefcase fell on the floor and the man who had been carrying it began to visibly struggle. Everyone reacted to the man’s sudden change of demeanor and somehow, the briefcase slid away from them and no one seemed to care. What on earth was happening to him?
A guard grabbed the briefcase and tried to walk away with it - just like that. It seemed wrong, but Y/N wasn’t going to stop him. Someone else did.
The green beast finally reached their level and he was upset. The door he had opened had pushed the guard on the floor and now the briefcase slid right back to their direction. The green one started roaring out in anger about how much he hated stairs, the people began to run away from him in panic. Y/N froze on the spot, staring at him wide eyed. She had no idea what he was capable of and she didn’t truly want to figure that out either.
Instead, she fixated her eyes on the bright blue cube that fell out of the briefcase. It was beautiful. She couldn’t look away and she just watched as it reached Loki’s feet. Loki looked at it in astonishment, like he couldn’t believe his luck. Then before anyone could stop him, he bent down and grabbed it.
He made the decision in a second and he didn’t hesitate at all when he ran toward Y/N and held onto her as well as he could with his cuffed hands.
“What are you-” She didn’t even get to finish her sentence as a portal appeared right behind Loki. The sight of it took her breath away as she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. It had bright blue edges just like the cube, but it led into seemingly eternal darkness. Before anyone could stop them, Loki stepped back into it, and pulled her with him.
The moment they entered the mysterious portal, it disappeared and Loki held onto her tighter. She was scared that something bad would happen if she let go, so instinctively she held onto Loki for dear life.
