Charlotte questions, looking up at him. She quickly throws on a pair of gloves and grabs some gauze, applying pressure to his wound. It was important to stop the bleeding before anything. "I know this hurts like hell, but since you wanted to skip the hospital, you're going to have to deal with it." // @goodwinxandco

"It's big enough," he lets out in a low growl. If it were another instance, he might have gave a laugh at her ego quip. Wyatt doesn't say another word as he crosses the threshold, his gait slightly staggering as though he had downed one too many glasses of whiskey. Somehow, he makes it to the couch and sinks like a stone in the middle.

When she returns, it's clear to him she hasn't yet realized the extent of his injury: a hole somewhere near his gut as a result of a single gunshot. "Hospital was farther," Wyatt responds simply. Nevermind, the hospital wasn't exactly an option if it were closer. I didn't know where else to go. And yet, he already regrets this-- coming here, dragging her into his mess. He isn't really thinking straight. Panicking maybe just a little. If he was in a more proper state of mine, he wouldn't have even considered coming to her as the alternative to a hospital.

"We're gonna need somethin' stronger than whiskey, I'm afraid..." Shakily, he lifts up his blood-soaked shirt, revealing the nasty wound, fresh blood still trickling on out.

Caral Bley, (born Lovella May Borg; May 11, 1936 – October 17, 2023) was an American jazz composer, pianist, organist, and bandleader.

An important figure in the free jazz movement of the 1960s, she was perhaps best known for her jazz opera Escalator over the Hill (released as a triple LP set), as well as a book of compositions that have been performed by many other artists, including Gary Burton, Jimmy Giuffre, George Russell, Art Farmer, Robert Wyatt, John Scofield, and her ex-husband Paul Bley. She was a pioneer in the development of independent artist-owned record labels, and recorded over two dozen albums between 1966 and 2019.

We played a rare Steelburner (duo) show at Jethro’s this past February as part of Charlie Glasspool & Wyatt Burton’s monthly BGO Presents series - and what a time we had. There were stories, laughs, almost tears, dances, songs, hugs, more hugs and some sweet pics to archive the night. Meara was away on a school trip, so Charlie came down to knit in the audience for the evening. Thanks Esther Vincent for these sweet memories.
