Twitter has been re-litigating Starship Troopers recently so one of my mutuals requested a poster based on the WWII "This man is your FRIEND" series.

"Hit the Beach!"
Tumblr media
Did someone you know visit the "Hit the Beach" Great Lakes tour in 1945? The headliner for this exhibit was the LST-512, aka 𝑈𝑆𝑆 𝐵𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑡𝑡 𝐶𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑦. Visitors could explore a mock jungle, view weaponry, and watch live landing demonstrations:

So you know this poster, right?
Tumblr media
I just learned that it was a WWII propaganda poster.
Anyway, what really strikes me is that her back arm doesn't seem to be in proportion. The upper arm is too long and the shoulder is a bit too low. Her body in general seems to be out of proportion. We really shouldn't be able to see much of her back arm, it's way too low.
Does anyone else see it? Or is it just me being dumb about anatomy?

With the country now at war, Mayor LaGuardia launched a city campaign to conserve water. This was one of a number of ads (for the subway, presumably) designed by Earl Kerkam, ca. 1942.

“Jenny on the Job” was a series of posters created by artist Kula Robbins and issued by the Public Health Service in 1943. This poster depicts what women working in the factories and around machines were expected to wear.

One type of American World War II propaganda that delights me is the pro-book material:

Uncle Sam Day!
Tumblr media
Perhaps the most recognizable poster in American history, James Montgomery Flagg’s depiction of Uncle Sam pointing at the viewer first appeared as a cover illustration for Leslie’s Weekly magazine on July 6, 1916. In that original version Uncle Sam asks: “What are YOU doing for preparedness.” Flagg’s inspiration came from a British magazine illustration created in 1914 by Alfred Leete. It featured Lord Kitchener, the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for War, pointing at the viewer while asserting “Your Country Needs YOU.”
