Medli headcanon

I JUST REALIZED I NEVER TALKED ABOUT THIS HERE So anyway: I've had the hc that Medli is a weak flyer for a while now. Mostly due to how she has a stamina meter while the rest of the Rito can fly for much longer. And I think there's dialogue in Wind Waker to support this a bit.

This dialogue is given to Link before getting the Grappling Hook, wherein Medli states she used the Grappling Hook to climb the mountain, and that Rito used them before evolving to have wings.

We know Medli already has her wings by this point bc she uses them to get into the cavern with Link's help. I also wanna point out how she needs Link's help here to even get in the air. One could very well argue it's bc of the wind currents, which is what Medli says in game. But adding to how she needs the Grappling Hook throughout the Dungeon despite there being no wind that we can see on our trek, and already having wings to fly with is interesting to me. Why would she need to use that if she could just fly there?

"But Loki!" You're probably saying; "She only got her wings recently! She's probably just not skilled enough with them yet."

And to that, I need to point out:

Komali got his wings very recently, sometime after Medli did, and yet he flew all the way from Dragon Roost Island, to the Forsaken Fortress, to the Tower of the God's with Tetra in tow, and then back to Dragon Roost without us ever seeing him stop for any reason. The ocean in Wind Waker is massive, so flying that long on relatively new wings, is by no means a small feat. We also just see him flying around in the air during certain cutscenes. Something we never see Medli do. You could argue being the Chief's son makes him better at flying or something, but there's nothing in game to suggest that so it's entirely speculation.

When you go to the Earth Temple you have the option to control Medli and fly around without needing a jumpstart from Link. During this part of the game, she can only fly for about 10 seconds before getting tired. (Ik that this is only there to balance gameplay and whatever but let me whimsical and have hcs dammit/j) Sidebar:

This has nothing to do with anything but her having confidence issues breaks my heart, poor girl 😭😭😭 She's constantly asking if it's okay for her to suggest things and apologizing if her trying to help is annoying. YOU'RE NOT ANNOYING ME PLEASE I WANNA HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS, YOU HAVE GOOD IDEAS

I also wanna point out that at the end of the game we see Komali and Medli again and while Komali greets you while flying, Medli is standing on the deck of Tetra's ship. We never really see Medli fly for long amounts of time. The only times we see her fly it's explicitly stated somehow that she can't do it for long. Whereas other Rito, like Komali and Quill, seem to be able to fly for indefinite amounts of time, with little to no issue.

I thought it was kinda cool how a lot of things seem to point to her having some kind of disability that leads to her being unable to fly for very long. I'm definitely gonna make this a part of my AU, bc I really like it. That's kinda all my thoughts on this for now. Now to get back to drawing.

You frowned as you lifted your shirt up slightly in front of your mirror. Turning to see your side profile. Staring at your stomach.

You thought no boys/girls would ever show interest in you if you looked like this. Although your body was completely normal for your age. Sighing as you felt a tear fall down your cheek.

You continued staring at your body, to which you hated, when your father, loki, suddenly burst through the door. Usually he'd knock and you'd have a second to jump into your bed and put on a fake smile. But you didn't this time.

You took in a sharp breath, whipping around to face him. With his eyebrows scrunched, he tilted his head in confusion as to what you were doing.

"Ww-What are you doing?" He asked as you felt your cheeks turn red. With your head downcast, you felt tears come to your eyes. You backed up slowly until you sat down on your bed.

Your father walked over and sat down next to you. placing his hand over yours in order to comfort you. "What were you doing darling?"

You sniffed before letting out a small sob, loki threw his arms around you as a reflex to this. You continued to sob into his chest for a while. He rocked you back and forth as ran his fingers through your dark wavy hair. Shushing you from time to time.

Eventually you calmed down. Pulling away from your father, you looked at him tearfully. He looked deep into your emerald green eyes before asking the question again.

"What were you doing?" He asked in a soft tone, his asgardian accent ringing in your ears. You took in a deep breath before confessing.

"I...really, hate the way i look." Loki looked surprised at this, brushing a strand of hair away from your face. "Why?"

"Im afraid that if im too fat I'll never get a partner...and if i dont loose some weight no boy/girl will love me..." you said sadly. Your father again, looked shocked at this.

"Y/n, darling, your not fat, your not even overweight in the slightest...did, someone tell you these lies?"

"No, not really i just...i want boys/girls to like me, and i just, I just dont like the way i look. Its ugly and-"

"I beg your pardon?" Loki interrupted, 'Ugly' he hated that word. "Tell me, why in the world you would think that?"

"I dont know! Okay!?" You shouted, "i dont know why i feel this way! Just go away!" You yelled in frustration. He placed a hand on your shoulder. Remaining calm as your mood switched quickly.

He sighed and pulled you close to him, you again started to sob into him. He pulled away from this gentle touch for a moment to lie down on his back, extending and arm to invite you in.

You rested your head on his chest as he held you close to him as you both continued to stare at the ceiling.

You allowed yourself to drift off in his arms, your chest rising and falling as you slept.

He had a maid draw you a warm bath when you awoke from your deep slumber. He also made you your favorite meal when you got out of the tub.

Over a few weeks, you felt at peace with your body, with your soul, with your mind.

Spinning 'Jade' around in my mind -

JS didn't hit me much, but the Jade's promise took a wack out of me that I so wish DE did more of - confrontation and friction that would exist within the fiction given the circumstances of the characters.

Tucks thoughts beneath a read more;

As far as main story beats go - The Sacrifice is the only one to hit on the mark of the friction that would exist in the terms of the world of the Orokin reign; the threat of retaliation by silencing any whiff of dissent, the straight-cut of anyone other than those in power as lesser, and the active -TRY- against the pain that comes from that kind of system. If they had managed to work Jade's promise into it at the same effort, I really feel like it would've attained that level. But it's constraints on Stalker/Sorren would've made that extremely difficult in a restrained POV.

The Sacrifice is the only main story quest that actually made me cry; Jade's promise got the same out of me even if it was just short sections.

While, usually, we get glimpses of the larger picture with Simaris' imprints, various tales in the levarian, the short time we had tales attached to primed warframes, or even with warframes like Dagath, like Jade. We don't get a lot of 'big hits' of empire acting as an empire does [wide gesture towards various capital driven countries, to ongoing war and genocide], but they're in small ways, which makes the world feel more alive than just set pieces being moved around.

The setting feeling more alive is the big thing I hope to see more as we go on into future updates; even while we still have areas that feel lifeless even though there's NPCs placed around [looking at relays]. Cetus and Fortuna still now feels vibrant - they feel like lived in places even if they're hubs. The Zariman is silent and cold yet still looked lived in how nooks and crannies have old shelters built into it still; all the tilesets have their own touches of being 'lived in' with their respective factions. And while it's taken some time, their story-telling is getting closer to matching that level of effort of being a place people either once live, or still live in.

Especially after War Within, while it touched upon the Zariman it was vague enough to fit a player's interruption of their own operator's potential experience, the Yuvan theater felt glossed over. Parading 'fresh bodies' for the old and dying to have their body used as a vessel for another's mind. There's a lot of weight there, but within War Within it's used as set dressing for the neat mirror trick of your operator and the Grineer queen.

For most of the time before it, and before The Sacrifice, the Orokin felt very, cartoony in the way of propping up the classic interruption of an empire is. Made with a lot of short-hands that can, unfortunately, lead a lot of people to conclusions of 'empire is good actually' if its not fleshed out enough to encompass what comes with total subjugation of their population which DE has put in constantly. Much in the same way fandom or canon has the unfortunate tendency to latch onto facist imagry because it 'looks cool' and brush off people's discomfort of that facist imagry.

I know it's more out of DE's story consistency that the operator does not remember much outside of mentorship under The Lotus or sections aboard the Zariman. But Jade's Promise did touch on it; not passively glossing over the fact of what being a child soldier entails. Something that I didn't feel like they did enough on before that I turned my Tenno OC (Diviyoni-Jacob Warren) into part character exploration, part catharsis, part trying to piece my own feelings regarding being an undiagnosed AuDHD child and needing a differentiate between mental self (T'viska, Loki) and emotional self (Warren, Tenno) to get through some less than understood issues.

I really like when DE doesn't try to pull their punches; I kinda get why people get disappointed in Jade Shadows not being able to match up with TSD, WW, Sacrifice, TNW - but those had a whole development cycle focused on them while Jade Shadows was more aligned with the older warframe quests, which everyone forgets about since DE doesn't have focus development to that stuff anymore for obvious reasons of resources.

Silently hoping for Lotus Eaters and 1999 to open up possibilities of more time-line hoping to expand upon operator and drifter coming to terms with their circumstances. Instead of Operator just shutting those memories away and Drifter just spiraling until Lotus' hand smacked them upside the head.

Have you ever seen the Ghostbusters? I have an entire Halfa!Egon AU to explain some of that shit his cartoon version got up to 😂

I threw that AU at Jill too when she showed up since she's basically the Egon of her group. Although I also have a sub au of that where they're twins, both Deities of life and death but her more death and animals and him more life and plants, and that's why they're halfas.

Honestly tho, I give EVERYTHING a cryptid AU Even if it's already a fucked world. For instance, Janine is a Naga (shifter) in one iteration 🤣

I also have a stupid crossover au where it turns out Kevin is Thor and Jill is Jane and at this point they've just been universe hopping for a while against will/intent and such.

Which, thinking of my Loki!Bruce stuff, now I'm just laughing about some massive DP DC GB MVL crossover. Catwoman and Talia are Sigyn and Angrboda from myths tho but I've no idea which is who 😅

It's even worse tho when you add Loki = James and Sigyn = Lily (I think I read every freaking fanfic that had that plot). Which, maybe Talia is Sigyn which makes Damien poor Harry. Also, half Indian James/quarter Indian Harry please and thank you very much.

But also you get into the craziness of which Joker and Harley are Loki/Sigyn too because I adored the version of Joker who was a non abusive crazy in the cartoon and wasn't yet in my loving Bruce era. Which adds even more to the whole 'two halves of a coin' bats and jokes has going on. 😅

And if we go with my age old Pariah Thomas, Gotham Martha, and Clockwork Alfred... yeah, Bruce might be a lil OP, or at the very least scare ol Connie with the number of seals on him to keep his powers locked away.

What's worse is that the Deity AU for Ghostbusters has Jill and Egon as twin children of alternate godhoods/godformes of Loki and Sigyn because OTP forever but also CHAOS (this deity au started when I was in high school and it's the one AU that never stops digging it's claws in, halp 😅)

But also Sam is the daughter of Hades and Persephone, and Danny is like... a mini Hela who Sigyn went to check on and, whoops, her soul got tethered to a too weak body so not only is she her own step great granddaughter but also the vessel is dying and that sucks.

I also had a PJO au where Tucker was a son of Hephaestus, which, I guess WW and Vandal get to fight over him? 😅

Yes I love chaos, and yes I might be a lil crazy, but it's fun. Also, I make a Cryptid AU and a Deity AU for pretty much every fandom I'm in even if I don't voice it.

‘Loki’ Season 2 Finale Pulls In 11.2M Views, +3% From Opener

Marvel Studios’ season 2 finale of Loki went out with a blast attracting 11.2M global views over three-days, which is +3% from the season 2 first episode 3-day draw of 10.9M.

Loki‘s season 2 kickoff was the second most-watched season premiere this year on Disney+, behind March’s season 3 premiere of The Mandalorian.

The finale of the Marvel Studios series—which concluded last Thursday—was only behind the season three finale of The Mandalorian, which wrapped up its season in April.

The popularity of Loki held steady throughout the season with every episode of the show racking up over 11M views during their premiere weeks, reports Disney.

Disney defines a view as total stream time divided by runtime.

Deadline’s Katie Campione reported a few weeks ago that in Nielsen rankings, Loki season 2 episode one debuted in the No. 6 spot, generating 446M viewing minutes. For context, the series premiered in June 2021 to 731M viewing minutes in its first week.

In the season 2 finale, Loki realizes that the Temporal Loom will never be able to safely hold all the branches of time. In the final moments of the episode, he uses his own powers to revive and hold together all the branches of time at the citadel at the end of time.

The season 2 finale also paved the way for the rest of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, with other Kang the Conqueror variants continuing to exist across the various timelines.

While Disney+ saw a high on Loki finale, the Marvel Cinematic Universe saw its lowest opening ever at the domestic and global box office with The Marvels opening to $46.1M stateside, $109.4M WW.

the thing about all of the superhero dross is that these people are capable of making excellent films. they know what a good story looks like. WW was good. Shazam was fine. there was no inherent reason that they couldn't succeed. but then they tried to force a shared universe before it was ready, with a bunch of other films with bad writing, no charisma between the actors, and awful CGI monsters for them to fight. surely somebody recognised that those were bad.

I rewatched season one of Loki recently and it's still just really good television. it stands on its own feet as a genuinely interesting sci-fi show with an intriguing, layered plot that seems to deepen each episode, coherent set and costume design, atmospheric music, and lots of clever camerawork.

they had a boring premise - to make a Loki spin-off, which seemed to be an unnecessary money-grab like the rest - and they went out and made it bold and interesting. but the same studio are pumping out bland, pointless shows about other characters where nothing really happens (because they can't upset the main continuity) and nobody really seems interested in anything but getting paid.

interestingly it's often the least anticipated titles which end up being the best. WandaVision sounded like an awful concept but they made something unique out of it, and it was better than the big names which tend to rest on their laurels. James Gunn's The Suicide Squad took a bunch of misfit characters and made their film more entertaining than Superman v Batman through simple good writing. it's like only those properties feel the need to actually make something good, because they can't rely on name recognition alone, whereas those that can tend to phone it in.

Comics this week?

Action Comics #1057 - If this is the last arc for both the way I suspect I'm going to miss Sandoval just as much as PKJ. Like Sampere and Federeci he's an artist who could be a generational Superman creator but may be getting snatched away too soon. This issue is mainly just an interview between Clark and Norah, and in the hands of a lesser artist it would just be boring talking heads. Sandoval's portrayal of Clark using his powers to detect whether Norah is lying during the interview keeps the tension high, loved how he depicted Clark's x-ray vision and superhearing. Pretty obvious that Norah is an infiltrator sent by the Empire of Shadows (the evil Dark Multiverse Batfamily from the Batman/Superman & the Authority one shot that PKJ did). If this is the ending arc for PKJ, the Superfamily vs. the Evil Batfamily is a great idea for an ending.

Flash #1 - Good first issue, sets up an interesting Speed Force plot even though I've felt worn out on the Speed Force. Been out of the loop with Flash for a while and this did a good job of getting me up to speed (heh). Dedato art isn't a great fit with a speedster - conveying motion is something he's bad at - but it does suit the grim tone. Spurrier is a writer who loves to pack his issues with as much words as he can, which has the upside of making the issue take longer to read. Seems the comic industry is switching back to compression after two decades plus with everyone trying to ape the Bendis decompressed style. It's a welcome change because if you're going to charge me $5 an issue, it damn well better take me longer than 5 minutes to read.

Detective Comics #1074 - Probably my favorite issue of the run thus far, Nguyen is a treasure. Watters needs his own Ten-Eyed Man mini.

The Penguin #2 - The lesser King work with WW on the stands but still good!

Unstoppable Doom Patrol #6 - Burnham draws the hell out of the fight scenes and it was great to see old Morrison characters like Quiz. Kinda the perfect counter to Jane having every superpower ever just doled out to different identities.

Blade #3 - Slows down a bit but the Adana is such a cool bad guy and I'm loving the buildup to Blade's fight. Plus Blade keeps being the coolest motherfucker in the MU.

Immortal Thor #2 - Not feeling the new Loki design and Ewing is struggling with writing fight scenes as always, but man is that art gorgeous otherwise. Thought bubbles are such a perfect choice here because they are the equivalent of Shakespearean English for comics in terms of conveying "this is old school storytelling". Compliments Ewing trying to write a Thor run in the vein of the actual myths.

Avengers #5 - At this point it's a solid run, but not as great as his Strange book. Need to cut back so I'm dropping this.

Ultimate Invasion #4 - Oh boy do I have thoughts! So many I need to bullet point them!

Hickman has flipped the plot from Ultimates 2. Here the 6160 Ultimates are positioned like the 1610 Liberators in that they are going to be fighting to destroy the status quo, with Capitan America presumably leading the charge. Or maybe it will be Black Panther as the leader since he presumably will be housing the Ultimates in the one place not under the Illuminati's control: Wakanda.

Nothing gets erased via time travel which surprised me. For better or worse, this is what the new Ultimate Universe will be. No traditional take on Ultimate Fantastic Four ever since Ben, Sue, and Johnny are all dead and Reed is a good version of Doom. Reed will be on the Ultimates because Hickman can't leave his boy on the sidelines for long. Clearly Hickman will be writing Ultimates since I can't imagine anyone else wanting to write that kind of lineup with this weird a status quo. What the hell an Ultimate X-Men book is going to look like is anyone's guess.

Hickman has three big plotlines seeded here: The Illuminati carving up America and the Ultimates fighting back. The Maker, Kang, and Howard all trapped in the City which is sealed now but will open again one day. Tony Stark is "Iron Lad" which is meant to make us believe he is also Ultimate Kang, whether that's a red herring or a destiny Tony must face one day remains to be seen.

Other big plot thread is that one day the 616 Illuminati are going to make their way to 6160, likely with the help of Miles and that card Maker gave him.

No tease for Spider-Man, maybe that will come with the Ultimate Universe one shot. Either it's going to be Peter Parker because Marvel demands at least one relatively "normal" book to serve as anchor for all this weirdness, or it will be someone entirely new. Saw someone suggest Harry Osborn and fuck that actually could work! I don't think that's ever been done either. My guess is that USM will be a book about either Peter or Harry having been groomed to join the technocrats in ruling the world, but they end up rebelling against that. Most of Spidey's traditional foes are either mad scientists (Norman and Otto would easily fit into this as sub-bosses under Howard who are pissed because the Illuminati stripped them of their old privileges) or science experiments lashing out (Lizard for example).

I see what Hickman is going for here. In our world the techbros wield power equivalent to heads of state, Hickman just flat out made them the actual heads.

It's an interesting setup, but it's weird. I dunno if Marvel fans will get on board with this, it's so utterly at odds with well, everything. It's not 616, it's not the MCU, and it's not 1610. Everything here is taking full advantage of being an alternate universe, and I don't know how Marvel fans will react to that. Another problem is this Ultimate Universe already carries a lot of baggage. Don't know who the Maker is? You're going to be utterly lost with what the hell is going on. Original Ultimate Universe lasted as long as it did because it was easy to get into for newcomers and featured streamlined reimagining of the classic characters for oldheads. Hickman said his new UU would be an inversion of that and he didn't lie.

I'm concerned that approach is going to make this new Ultimate Universe short lived. Say you're one of the countless people who will presumably jump in on Hickman writing Spidey without having read all this beforehand. If Spider-Man is as changed as Iron Man or Reed are, that's going to be a turn off for people because they'll reject how different he is from what they expect.

thinking abt the journey and a half my DC hyperfixation has been.

I was a DCAU only girlie for so long. (BTAS, Batman Beyond, Teen Titans, YJtv, GLtv). I enjoyed the DCEU too, but i was WAY too wrapped up in MCU brain-rot to dive too deeply into those. But that was it. Zero interest in comics themselves as a lil squirt.

Eventually I stopped caring abt the DCEU entirely. (around WW’84, tho it had nothing to do with that movie, i just never saw it — and didnt see any of the movies that came after). And got WAY into Marvel™. And i kinda just rode that wave.

When Marvel started branching out into shows i was HYPED — esp since they started that shit off with WandVision. I’d always loved Wanda, and the fact that they brought Billy and Tommy in was all i needed to push me into reading comics

i tore through the young avengers (UGH i miss them <;/3), and other titles associated with them, and was having a blast. At some point around the season finale of Loki (good show, this was just also how the cookie crumbled) I just fell off Marvel in general. A lot of this probably had to do with school ramping up around this time — but i stopped reading comics & watching their shows and movies almost entirely.

Around this time tho, bc i Missed reading comics — i started reading webcomics. And as much as i enjoyed reading Marvel comics for that short period of time, webcomics were what made me fall in love with Comics™ as a medium.

6th semester ended, i was elbows deep in world building for my own webcomic project, and started watching anime while working on it. Again, anime was always one of those things i enjoyed (Digimon, Sailor Moon, and Pokémon were some of the most influential pieces of media in my entire childhood), but my love for it as an art form was really solidified during this time

[side note: can you Tell i was dealing with art school shit during all of this? couldn’t turn the critique brain off literally Ever, so anything i enjoyed got put under the art student lens]

But my interest in anime stayed entirely on the animated side of things for a Long Ass Time. It wasn’t until Jujutsu Kaisen that i got shoved headlong into manga. God that stupid fucking anime changed my life, ANYWAY.

I finished the anime (umm maybe like. 5 times), and then HAD to know what happened next. So i devoured the manga. Every spare moment i had was spent reading it, until i was Done. then i was like orz. what do u do now ??

The answer was do the exact same thing with Demon Slayer. which was ALSO a life changing experience. read 鬼滅の刃 pls pls pls

Now. When i finished KNY, i was also like *head in hands* how do i even keep on living?? But this was also while working on my thesis project, and still doing a lot of work on the side as far as my own comic was concerned. (like… 60k words worth of world building & drafting scripts + designing characters), so its not like i had all that much free time.

anyway — i finished up my 8th semester, and barely gave myself a chance to breathe before i threw myself into working on my comic practically full time.

I was working on a one shot to submit to a contest for Webtoon, and they were asking for a pretty substantial amount of content (60+ panel Action comic one shot. and I, as always, love to make things harder on myself, so i think in one of the later drafts it ended up having over 100 panels).

needless to say, i Did Not finish the oneshot in time (its still not done to this day T~T i’ll come back for you forge, dont worry). But, toward the end of that… 3 month span of feverishly working on this project, i found myself falling in love with DC all over again.

I mentioned YJtv before, but that show was Also something that changed my life as a 10 year old.

(its really funny to think about that show now & how it’s release date lines up with the beginning of the N52 continuity, and how both the show & that particular reboot are so strongly disliked by a vast majority of DC’s fanbase — but thats a post for another day)

I’ve rewatched the show at least once a year since my roommate let me start using their HBOMax login. I know seasons 1 and 2 like the back of my hand bc of how much i watched them growing up, and i like season three well enough. But the thing was that on this unsuspecting summer night, i was about to discover that there were New Episodes.

Dude i was hyped, i was losing my shit. I had resigned myself to the knowledge that this show was never coming back. I was okay with it too. But here it was, alive and kicking after what felt like forever.

Heres the thing tho. They killed off Kon.

okay not really, but at the Time boy boy was Dead, and i was devastated. Thats My Boy. He had been my favorite character from the jump, and i did not know how to process him being gone. So i took a break from the show, and turned to ao3 instead.

At this point i was Not an avid fic reader. I wasn’t an avid reader period – outside of manga – but i had read a few really good fics recommended to my by some of my JJK pals. So i looked at the Kon-El | Conner Kent character tag on ao3 and just scrolled until i found something interesting.

In this case: a Timkon fic (this one in particular).

I knew who Tim was before this (He shows up in YJtv. He's there in BTAS), but I had never thought about him and Kon as... anything really. In the versions of them i was familiar with, they don't interact all that much. They're from different generations of heroes, but i was like, hey, what the hell this sounds cute. And man oh man, it was all down hill from there.

I read more TimKon fic, and just fell in love with them. But i was also... confused. Like... why do these two guys have such a robust fanbase... wheres the link.

THAT is what pushed me to start reading Detective Comics Comics for the first time. I wanted to get to know these guys For Real, and the only way to do that was by digging into the source material.

This post is So long oh shit. I have thoughts about How I got to know the kiddos & how the comics i read (as well as the order i read them in) have influenced my understandings of these little guys. But i think thats a post for another day. I have other things to do than write out a post about my media consumption habits
