WU LYF - Go Tell Fire To The Mountain (2011). Haven't heard this album since I bought it when it was released. Sounds still good...too bad they broke up. #wulyf #vinylpost #vinylcommunity #vinylcollection #vinyl #vinyljunkie #vinylcollector #vinylrecords #vinyligclub

Dance 4 Sorrow - Francis Lung
from Mother’s Son (à paraître)
Amen.

Francis Lung - Faeher’s Son Vol. I
When I was still writing for gimmeindie.se, I came across a “hot new indie band” called Wu Lyf. I really dug them immediately.
There have only been a handful of times where my first listen of a song overwhelms me and gives me this rush of imagination and questions. It’s more than just goosebumps. It’s an intense curiosity from hearing something unique and inspiring. Songs that had that kind of profound impact on my musical autobiography include: Sonic Youth’s “100%”, Sugarcubes’ “Birthday”, Elliott Smith’s “Angeles”, Fugazi’s “Waiting Room”, Lamb’s “Cotton Wool” - to name a few from my teenage years, when I first became obsessed with music.
Wu Lyf’s “Spitting Blood” is one of the more recent examples. And so is Francis Lung’s “Age Limits”, off this EP.
Why am I conflating Wu Lyf with Francis Lung? Because they share a creative force, Tom McClung! He was the bassist and background vocalist in Wu Lyf, and is now singer and guitarist in Francis Lung.
This is actually his solo project that seems to be developing into full blown band now. And he’s just released a follow-up EP, Mother’s Son Vol. II.
Both EPs collect singles released over the past few years. The songs on Vol. I are mainly quiet acoustic numbers, except for standout “Age Limits”, which ends with a kickass tempo boost and some Wu Lyf-style screaming.
Also, I ordered this record directly from his website. And when I opened the package at work (I get all my online orders delivered at work because… because of reasons…), a work buddy of mine was very impressed by the album artwork. And he’s never impressed by anything, so trust me, it’s great artwork.
