I can't say that Tiger and Crane's ending was bad exactly, but it was certainly upsetting.
Spoilers for the ending:
Why did they have to kill Yuqian AND my girl Xintong?? 😭😭😭
I was already devastated they killed Mo Guzi but I was pretty much prepared for it. Then we lost both Yuqian and Xintong in the same episode and I lost it.
Their deaths made sense in the context of the story, but that didn't make it any less sad. Yuqian saved everyone in death by releasing his divine power and Xintong's death caused Huzi to be able to rage power up, but I was still shook the writers actually went there and killed half the leads.
What upset me the most was that Yunzi didn't even seem to care that Yuqian died. 😭 He rallied the troops to "avenge the king", but beyond that, he wasn't sad at all. He gave Yuqian's brick to Huzi and that was that. We didn't even get to see any follow up of Qianyu state or see anyone mourning or honoring Yuqian. Xintong even had Wu Lidan honoring her, why couldn't we have seen Yunzi honoring his king? We (and Yuqian) deserved as much. 🥺
#the ending was actually ok in the sense that it was satisfying#but that doesn't make me any less upset 😅#tiger and crane

“She wants Qianyu to forget Zuo Qingzhou?” Cang Ji’s chest felt heavy. He said, “Qianyu wants to be together with Zuo Qingzhou. And that’s his intention. Even if Huashang has his best interests at heart, she shouldn’t make him forget his past ties.”
“Even so.” Xiyan heaved a long sigh like a child wise beyond his years. He said to Cang Ji, “How would Qianyu-gege be able to live on if he can’t forget? He will definitely not want to remain alive alone.”
“If you want him to forget,” Cang Ji said, “you might as well let him die.”
!!!!!
I am on chapter 51, and I love this seemingly little bit so much because Cang Ji saying this shows how far he’s come from the fish demon who couldn’t understand any emotions or feel any of them (his attachment to Jin Ling was processed by him as wanting to devour him as in “meal.”) The bell is leading them through the eight sufferings and possibly some heavenly conspiracy, but it’s also teaching Cang Ji humanity - he came into this story as a blank slate (and so did Jing Lin for a different reason - his emotions seem to have been frozen/disappeared but he remembers having some at some point - I mean he killed Heavenly Father because of emotion, though I do not think he himself remembers what the reason was) and this is making him into a proper person (and I think also unfreezing Jing Lin.)
God, I love this novel.
ETA:
Jing Lin said, “If he can’t forget, then he will never be able to let go. If he can’t let go, then he will never forget. The wheel of life and death turns ceaselessly. Zuo Qingzhou is dead. His soul will return to the Underworld. By this time, he has probably entered the path to reincarnation. Qianyu can’t forget him, nor will he ever catch up to him. This is torture.”
“By the time Zuo Qingzhou forgets him, he would also forget Zuo Qingzhou. Both sides meet again as if they are strangers. No one gets hurt.” Cang Ji said, “Do you think this is good?”
Jing Lin stood silently for a moment and said, “Good.”
Cang Ji’s heart stopped. Jing Lin’s “good” caused his mind to go blank for a moment. After a while, he said, “How boring.”
Because I am spoiled, I am screaming. But also, it’s so interesting that by chance I am reading this and Wu Chang Jie at the same time - they are very different novels in almost every way, but they both have the running question of whether it’s better to forget or remember and what it means to feel human and to care despite the loss and the unjust universe, and I love it.
ETA2:
“As they said, deep love can withstand several cycles of reincarnation.” Jing Lin’s eyelashes grew heavy with raindrops. He looked at Cang Ji. “Even if they die one after another for ‘love’, they would still never get to have a moment of reunion. Under the circumstances—”
“Under the circumstances.” Cang Ji raised his voice. “You still shouldn’t forget his past on his behalf! Since his love is as deep as the ocean to the extent that he could break off his tail to prolong Zuo Qingzhou’s life and suffer all those excruciating tortures with him, then who gives a shit about the pain?! Do you think he never expected that? He was willing.” He wiped Jing Lin’s eyes roughly with his thumbs. “What are you telling him to forget? Zuo Qingzhou? I’m telling you, even if you and Huashang went ahead and do so, he still wouldn’t live long. Those so-called deeply etched love doesn’t stay in the memories, but in here!”
Cang Ji yanked over Jing Lin’s hand and pounded it on his chest. That was a heart beating in there. Once someone made their way in there, how would memories alone be enough for it to pretend that nothing had ever happened before?
I do love that so much comes down to CHOICE and its importance but also the constant refrain that true feeling is worth an eternity of suffering is !!!!
And also because I am spoiled, seriously the foreshadowing and the parallels!

Characters that are plagued by loneliness. Characters that desperately wanted to love but aren't allowed to. The hollowness in their heart, screaming for something they'll never get. Characters that are soft-hearted but their hands are cursed to never be held. Characters that wants to belong somewhere but neverwhere is their home.

Adding thoughts to Wu Qianyue, his life before this one is shitty. Sure he managed to get to the top, but it was a lonely place to be. His family is gone, leaving him on top of the mountain. When he came to this world, he resolved to protect his family. Every means was used.
He tried to help who he can. His father, second mother, Jianzhi, Qingsu and Qingxu. He knows why their father did what he did, and tried his best to break his family out if the cycles of trauma. Even if he knowingly trapped himself in it.
Enduring, enduring, knowing why they did it and wanted to help them, forgiving, forging, knowing why that did it. Smiling to elevate the pain, to soothe the other, to be the pillar where everyone can rely on. But even mountains can collapse after decades of abuse.
The day Xue Jianrong's crime was announced was the day Xue Jianrong died, sacrificing himself to kill Demon Lord Qin.
#post canon events#wu qianyue#xue jianrong#oughhhhh have so many feelings about him#HES SO DOOMED BY NARRATIVE CODED ...
