9 Things Zuko Does That Aggravate the Avatar
I take it back. I no longer hate the last chapter of Where the Tulips Grow. In its honor, here's a little follow-up, just because it made me laugh.
And because Aang is like fifteen and a little jilted.
Aang doesn't hate Zuko. He doesn't hate anyone. He doesn't even hate the Fire Lord--er, former Fire Lord--so obviously, Sokka doesn't know what he's talking about.
Then again, Sokka did stroke his beard and suggest that Aang journal about his feelings, and that didn't sound like a terrible idea.
Inhaling deeply, Aang dips his brush in ink and spreads a piece of parchment across a small table. He'll make a list of things that he doesn't like about Zuko, and then he'll blow it into the fireplace, and that will be that.
Sokka's pretty wise for a guy with a fake beard.
He tried to kill me and my friends.
Well, that's not exactly true. Really, Zuko was trying to capture Aang and his friends. Katara had been raging about Combustion Man being Zuko's fault last time they'd spoken, but still. Aang doubts Sokka and Katara would have survived long after being captured, so.
2. He shot fire at me after I saved him.
Zuko was really ungrateful that he hadn't been left for Zhao to find.
3. He sided with Azula in Ba Sing Se.
This one, Aang thinks, needs very little explanation.
4. He betrayed Katara in Ba Sing Se.
Aang scowls down at the paper. He'd never seen her so angry before Zuko had shown up at the Western Air Temple.
5. There was something going on between Zuko and Katara in Ba Sing Se.
All of his friends, Katara included, say the play got that wrong, but if the play got that wrong, why was she so upset at the temple? Why couldn't she just forgive him? Katara is like him; she forgives and would never hurt anyone on purpose. Aang nods at the paper for emphasis. Whatever got into her that day was Zuko's fault.
6. Zuko makes Katara angry.
She's spent too much time with him. Katara supported Ozai's execution, even after Aang wrote to her and begged her to stop it. She refused, and he just knows it's because Zuko was there and not just writing her a letter and he must have been constantly bothering her about Fire Nation justice or whatever. Katara would never hurt anyone on purpose, and Aang wouldn't either.
7. Zuko married Katara.
Aang prides himself on his ability to let things go. It's the airbender way to be free of attachments, and he's always been able to follow that philosophy. Except for Katara. Guru Pathik said he had to let Katara go, but letting Katara go is what got him killed in Ba Sing Se, and besides, doesn't the universe want him to be happy? And then just when he thought they were going to be together, Zuko popped out of the woodwork and stole her from him.
He waited until Aang was out of the picture to swoop in and manipulate her into staying in the Fire Nation. He got hurt during the battle knowing she wouldn't leave him like that. He--
Aang takes a deep, calming breath and reminds himself that he doesn't hate Zuko.
8. Zuko won't give up the colonies.
This is Aang's biggest problem. The newer ones have been dissolved for almost two years, but Zuko is refusing to bring the Fire Nation citizens of Yu Dao home. So now Aang has to go and try to talk King Kuei out of starting a war, and then King Kuei went to the colony with an army anyway, and then Katara was there with the Fire Nation army saying she agreed with Zuko, and then the mayor's Earth Kingdom wife agreed with Katara, and now the whole thing is a mess.
Aang doesn't know how Zuko brainwashed her, but it's really frustrating.
9. Zuko can't get along with Kuei.
This one is completely Zuko's fault. The Earth King is a great guy who just wants to live in peace with his pet bear. Aang does not understand why Zuko is always picking fights with him about things like the colonies and whether or not sea prunes are edible.
Aang shudders. Kuei is right on both counts.
And that's it, Aang thinks. Nine things about Zuko that make him a terrible person. Iroh would be a much better Fire Lord. As the parchment dries, Aang lifts it and rereads his list. Sokka said to take three really, really deep breaths, and then to blow it into the fireplace. Once the list burns, Aang can let all of these go, and maybe then he'll be able to really clear out his chakras. That's the idea, anyway.
Sokka's pretty smart, Aang reminds himself.
Just as he prepares to burn the list, Hawky flaps into the room through the open window, looking dazed and a little confused (pretty normal for Hawky). Momo squawks indignantly when the bird lands next to him. Greeting Hawky with a quick pat on the head and some berries, Aang pulls the message out of its tube.
Then the list is forgotten. Aang shouts at the wall and rips his glider from its perch, throwing it open and darting into the sky.
The tenth thing Aang hates about Zuko is scrawled across the tiny parchment. Sokka is going to be an uncle in the summer.
P.S. The title is a reference to the last chapter:
“Stop avoiding me, Zuko,” she says, looking like she’s going to push everything off his desk if he ignores her. “We haven’t sparred since the last full moon, and we both need to stay sharp.”
She’s right, and he knows it. The assassination attempts have been foiled easily enough so far, but there are more rumors of rebellion fomenting in the south, and the Earth King isn’t budging on his demands to evict Fire Nation colonists from Yu Dao (Zuko isn’t budging on Yu Dao either, one more thing Zuko does that aggravates the Avatar).

Ok so, it’s one of two things regarding the wrath of the triple goddess. Either
A: this is actually written by a ghost writer and NOT RICK (not good bc then that means Rick is simply milking his cash cow dry, which diminishes not only themes in his OWN STORIES but honestly just disrespecting his characters and his VERY LOYAL FANDOM)
OR
B: He is writing the book himself and Rick’s fan service has finally reached its final form, meaning that he has and will continue to dismiss themes and established characterizations and events of his story in favor of just giving the fans what they want, WHICH IS TERRIBLE FOR STORYTELLING BC A FANDOM WILL NEVER, EVER AGREE ON EVERYTHING AND WILL ALWAYS HAVE CHANGING OPINIONS OVER THE YEARS!
What I’m trying to say is that it’s bad. This book is gonna be bad. Disrespectfully bad.
#I could write an entire essay on how fan service is and has been the death of Rick’s writing#trials of Apollo was GOOD bc it came from a place of creativity from Rick#its wasn’t something the fandom asked for#percy jackson#pjo#hoo#rr crit#rick riordan#percy jackon and the olympians#wttg#cotg#annabeth chase#percabeth

Hehehehe so about scrutinized maybe a lovesick tanner or kidnapper I don’t mind and another one is yandere kidnapper wanting to keep them for himself but they have a lover or crush on someone please and thank youuu❤️❤️😘🫶🫶
heueheueh. this will be a multi chapter! ||
Love Sick
tanner x (fem implied) reader , stockholm syndrome , kidnapping , jealousy , stalking , creepy behavior from tanner ||
your computer screen began to slowly burn your retinas, the blue light had formed a headache long ago. going through countless reports, sorting out the bullshit karen complaints and filing the ones that screamed ‘suspect’. all while being oblivious to the well suited creep making rounds around your home.
you couldn’t be to blame, each time you checked your home security cameras, not a single thing seemed out of place. it was like whatever wanted in was serious, and took a good look at all the blind spots around your home to avoid getting caught. you checked the clock, realizing you’ve been up almost 24 hours. pushing yourself from the desk, you stretched your arms up to break the tension.
“rather call it a night now. don’t feel like adding insomnia to the list of medical concerns.” glancing to your phone, you had three missed texts from your current fling, a fine man with a good job who had taken you on a few dates. checking through them, you resorted to responding later. it’s not like they’d be up at 4am anyways.
clearing up your work area and double checking to make sure your windows were locked downstairs, you sauntered up to your room, holding onto the railing to aid your fatigued eyes that could barely stay open now that they had no reason to. you skipped the shower, as all you did was sit at home all day in the same clothes with minimal movement. slipping into bed, you got real comfy.
“oh fuck..” you mumbled, looking up the window above you. you forgot to check it. but in theory it shouldn’t be unlocked. you never open it. shrugging the anxiousness away, you turn on your back, letting your eyes shut to fall into a much needed sleep.
that’s when he creeped in, white suit and blood red tie. fidgeting with window locks was nothing new, sneaking into women’s homes was routine, and watching you, well that was an everyday thing. every date you’ve been on, every grocery trip you made, all the reports you’d file. tanner was there, watching everything. seeing how ambitious you were to catch criminals, low scale ones compared to him, but bastards nonetheless.
creeping towards your sleeping figured, admiring the way your chest would rise and feel with each breath. his calloused hand slipped into the picked of his doctors coat, revealing his syringe. tanners eyes never left you, wanting to make sure he could strike unbeknownst to you. repositioning the needle in his hand, he crawled on the bed on top of you, his left arm pressing into the mattress by the side of your head.
feeling the weight shift and mattress dip, your eyes fluttered open, only to be met with his face mere inches from yours. gasping, you gripped onto the sheets in fear. within seconds he sunk the needle into your neck, injecting you with a small dose of midazolam. “let’s talk.” was the last thing you heard before your vision blurred, and thoughts became clouded. and the very last thing you could feel was being hoisted up and thrown over the culprits shoulder.

SCRUTINIZED DETAILS — LUNA’S GUEST ROOM / OFFICE
Whoops! I forgot I still had things to post for this ^^;
Anyway, this room is interesting because it's not really clear what it is. As far as I know, it was likely the old location of her desk/workspace, but after Sarah's death and the beginning investigation into the Blueblood Killer, Luna chose to utilize the wall space in the living room.
Still, there's some interesting finds in here! Transcriptions for any relevant material (e.g., awards and the small bulletin board) below the cut!

HIDDEN ARTICLE (BENEATH WANTED POSTER)
Steetly chapel is 850 years old
The ancient Chapel of Steetly All Saints is 850 years old this year — and to mark the occasion there will be an open air service in the Chapel garden a week on Sunday at 3:15.
The singing will be led by Whitwell Colliery Welfare Prize Band and the preacher will be the Right Rev. T. R. Parfitt. Assistant Bishop of Derby.
The [???] [???] shows that Steetly was held shortly after the [???] Survey [???] by Gley de Briton, by whom it was probably built. It is one of the most complete and beautiful specimens of [???] work on a small scale that can be [???] with anywhere, though there is a similar chapel at [???] Quevilly, near [???], France. The south doorway has three receding semi-circular arches and shafts richly ornamented.
The exterior of the [???] east end is also [???]. The [???] is supported by five round-edged plaster buttresses connected by a broad [???] [???] {???], delicately carved with interlacing foliage and above this unique [???] are three small round-beaded windows.
The Chancel arch is one of particular beauty. It is ornamented with triple [???] of mouldings. The [???] on the north side are carved with a representation of St. George and the Dragon.
The arch into the [???] is surrounded by the [???] moulding and the [???] are carved with foliage.
Four well-moulded ribs, or [???], with the [???] design, support the vaulted roof and at their junction [???] [???] oval medallion carved with the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God).
The capitals of the shafts from which the ribs spacing are also carved, one representing the temptation of Adam and Eve.
Behind the altar is a stone which formerly lay outside the south door and is believed to have marked the grave of Lawrence de [???], a clergy-man who was inducted to Steetly a year before the Black Death in [???]. Its rich carving includes a [???], a chalice and a hand stretched out as if giving a benediction.
The Chapel fell into ruins at the [???] during the reign of Henry VIII.
A visitor to Steetly in 1698 wrote: "In a green meadow [???] a [???] well-built [???] all arch-roofed [???] and [???]. The [???] that covered the same is all [???] away so that the weather begins to pierce through [???] [???] to [???] [???] decaying."
When [???] George Edward Mason became a [???] of Whitwell in 1874, Steetly Chapel was in a sorry state.
The roofless, doorless ruin had an interior overgrown with [???] and [???] and was a shelter for sheep and cattle and, it is said, was used as a cockpit in the days when cock-fighting was the sport of residents in the surrounding villages of Whitwell, [???], [???], and Steetley.
He could mourn its former beauty, and felt that it could be restored.
A year prior to his coming to Whitwell, the Chapel had been visited by members of the British Archeological Society, who also could see what a masterpiece it had been.
One deeply interested was the Victorian Prime Minister, William Gladstone.
[???] Mason secured the services of Mr. J. L. Pearson, one of England's most famous [???] architects. It was he who restored the ruin to its present beauty.
The diminutive Chapel is 58 feet in length and is divided into three parts — a [???], a [???], and an [???]. The [???] is 16 feet wide and the [???] 14 feet. Under the eaves outside are hideous gargoyles.
The restored Chapel was [???] on 2nd November [???] by the Bishop of [???]. As it was the day after All Saints' Day, it was named Steeley All Saints. The original Chapel was dedicated to Our Lady and St. [???]
— [???] P. Gallagher.
POLICE APPEAL FOR CLUES IN 1985 MURDER
By Thom Gross
Of the Post-Dispatch Staff
Vinita Park police are appealing to the public for clues in the unsolved murder of Linda Sue Sherman in 1985.
All leads have been exhausted, Lt. Michael Webb said, "But we have reason to believe that there are members of the public who may know something about it."
Sherman was reported missing April 24, 1985, by her husband, Donald Sherman, of the 8300 block of Monroe Avenue. She was 27 and the mother of a 9-year-old daughter. Two days later, her yellow '71 Volkswagen was found in a short-term parking lot at Lambert Field, absent any sign of struggle.
Further investigation led police to suspect that she was the victim of foul play, Webb said.
In 1990, a skull was found in Bridgeton, and it was turned over to the St. Louis County medical examiner's office. Vinita Park police learned of the skull in September 1991 and matched it with Sherman's dental records.
No other remains were recovered.
People with any clues about the case are asked to call Webb or Vinita Park Police Chief Robert J. Hartz at 428-7373. Webb said any information would be kept in strict confidence.

-> BOOKS IN THE ROOM
There are numerous books in the room, and are as follows.
On the chair — Tactical Crime Analysis: Research and Investigation (First Edition) by Derek J. Paulsen, Sean Bair, & Dan Helms. Official description is as follows:
Research has shown that the majority of crimes are committed by persistent or serial offenders, with as little as seven percent of offenders accounting for approximately 60 percent of all crimes. By focusing police efforts on these prolific offenders and learning to identify, analyze, and resolve the crimes they commit, the law enforcement community can protect and defend the public much more effectively. Tactical Crime Analysis: Research and Investigation provides a comprehensive discussion on both the theoretical and practical aspects of crime series analysis, making it a critical resource for those engaged in crime prevention and investigation.
On the table — Two unlabeled books, and Spy Secrets That Can Save Your Life: A Former CIA Officer Reveals Safety and Survival Techniques to Keep You and Your Family Protected by Jason Hanson. Official description is as follows:
The New York Times bestseller that reveals the safety, security, and survival techniques that 99% of Americans don’t know—but should
When Jason Hanson joined the CIA in 2003, he never imagined that the same tactics he used as a CIA officer for counter intelligence, surveillance, and protecting agency personnel would prove to be essential in every day civilian life.
In addition to escaping handcuffs, picking locks, and spotting when someone is telling a lie, he can improvise a self-defense weapon, pack a perfect emergency kit, and disappear off the grid if necessary. He has also honed his “positive awareness”—a heightened sense of his surroundings that allows him to spot suspicious and potentially dangerous behavior—on the street, in a taxi, at the airport, when dining out, or in any other situation.
In his engaging and empowering book Spy Secrets That Can Save Your Life, Jason shares this know-how with readers, revealing how to:
• prevent home invasions, carjackings, muggings, and other violent crimes • run counter-surveillance and avoid becoming a soft target • recognize common scams at home and abroad • become a human lie detector in any setting, including business negotiations • gain peace of mind by being prepared for anything instead of uninformed or afraid
With the skill of a trained operative and the relatability of a suburban dad, Jason Hanson brings his top-level training to everyday Americans in this must-have guide to staying safe in an increasingly dangerous world.
Then there are the... emblems? On the wall, which are just various stock badges with no real significance. And the photo of Sarah, which can be seen here:
This is just a stock photo which can be found here, created by someone who seems to have a niche for criminal justice stock photography.
