Sometimes the sea mourned and cried like a woman who lost a child, but today she was turbulent and triumphant.
“I like her better like this.” The girl turned away from the porthole, the floor of the moored little pearlwood sloop rocking like a hammock in fretful wind. “I don’t like it when she wails.”
“Hmm,” the old man rumbled, peering at the candleflame and the nose of the neat little forceps he was letting it lick. “You watch her too much, and not the lines… come here, now, lassie, time to get that hook out of your hand…”

Haven’t sent a prompt in a bit, soooo If no one’s prompted you yet, some Sam and Deena on New Year’s Eve. Thank you ;)
Hello friend! Please send all the prompts ever! I enjoy getting them...even if I wasn't actually about to write this one on New Years Eve...or Day...but please accept a little bit of post New Year's Eve Sam and Deena fluff to start off your year?
“So,” Sam says as she moves in from the kitchen, carefully balancing a mug of coffee in each hand, “what are your resolutions for the year?”
Deena grumbles, arm still draped across her eyes. “To never get off this couch.”
“I’m serious.” Sam smirks even though she knows Deena can’t see her, sitting down beside the couch and tucking her legs beneath her as she holds out one of the coffee mugs. “You have to have some resolutions.”
“Says who?” Deena reaches for the coffee without opening her eyes, though Sam has no idea where she intends to go from there, considering that she’s still prone on the couch.
Sam leans closer, kissing Deena’s shoulder and letting her chin rest against the curve of it. “I think…my goal would be to be here, just like this, a year from now,” she says softly, anticipation fluttering in her chest at the idea of it.
Deena cracks an eye open, chancing a glance at her. “That’s because you aren’t hung over right now,” she says, her tone slightly accusatory.
Sam lifts her eyebrows. “I told you to drink water.”
A huff is all Sam gets in response, though after a beat Deena seems to chance her luck with changing positions, somehow managing not to spill her coffee everywhere as she rolls onto her side, facing Sam instead. “I like yours.”
“What? My plan to drink water and-”
“No.” Deena harrumphs, though it feels more for show now than it had been before, just like the little furrow between her brow, the one Sam swears she sometimes wears purely because she knows Sam can never resist the urge to lean closer into her, to smooth it away with the pad of her thumb and let her fingers trail their way across the plains of Deena’s face. “Your resolution. What you said. About being here next year.”
Sam smiles softly, and she does reach out now, unable to help herself. Her coffee sits neglected beside her knee as she leans closer, letting her palm rest against the side of Deena’s face that isn’t still pressed to the couch pillow. Deena’s skin is warm against hers, soft and familiar, the way it had been the night before, when Sam had pulled Deena to her in the seconds before midnight, unable to wait any longer. Eventually the rest of the world had caught up with them, the swirling crush of people counting down to some moment that had faded away, fuzzy and warm, into the back of Sam’s mind as she’d kissed Deena, holding her closer as the year ended and rolled into the next. Deena’s fingers had tightened on the back of her dress as midnight had settled over them, a promise in the way she had pulled her closer.
“Yeah?” Sam says softly, gently brushing aside a curl of Deena’s hair and tucking it behind her ear. There’s still hints of glitter gathered there, from what Sam honestly isn’t even sure, probably one of the many sparkling decorations that had so boldly declared the approaching year, summoning it with a confidence that Sam has only now just starting to feel, each day and month and year with Deena only making her eager for the next one to come.
“Yeah,” Deena agrees, smirking. “I’m stealing it.”
Sam scrunches up her nose. “I’m not sure you can steal someone else’s resolution.”
“I can’t help it.” Deena’s eyes find hers, soft and gentle and full the way they had been the night before, after they’d finally moved away long enough to sip from the champagne someone had pressed into their hands. It’s the way Deena often looks at her, if Sam is being completely honest, something that still catches her by surprise sometimes because it feels too good to be true, that someone could look at her like that. “It’s a good one.”
Deena reaches for her hand, taking it and threading their fingers together and kissing the inside of Sam’s wrist. “I want to be here next year, too,” she says quietly. “With you. Wherever we are just…with you.” She swallows, eyes darting away from Sam’s in a gesture Sam recognizes easily over the years, the wobbly uncertainty that always seems to cross Deena’s face after she admits something like that. A gesture that only makes Sam love her more.
“Though,” Deena adds, brow furrowing again, “maybe without the feeling of wanting to go stick my head in a toilet.”
Sam can’t help but laugh, though Deena scowls at her finding obvious amusement in her misery. “Yeah, hopefully without that. Though, if you had just listened to me and-”
Deena leans forward enough to kiss her, putting an end to the I-told-you-so that Sam is only half interested in delivering anyway. Sam hums, moving closer, her fingers tangling in Deena’s hair.
“It is a good one,” Sam whispers softly against her lips, and off Deena’s confused look, she adds, “Being here with you next year. Starting the year off like this.” She kisses Deena against softly. “And every year.”
It’s the only resolution, suddenly, that seems to matter, the one that lets her live the next months of her life with Deena, in this place and in this moment and thousands just like it. A string of days that she gets to live with Deena.
Deena kisses her again rather than answer, though Sam figures that’s an agreement in itself, and a promise too. A reassurance. The same one that lingers in each lazy, still half-asleep kiss each morning, or the gentle, final press of her lips each night. The same kiss Sam intends to chase as often as possible, for as long as Deena will let her.

10 Non-Lethal Injuries to Add Pain to Your Writing
New Part: 10 Lethal Injury Ideas
If you need a simple way to make your characters feel pain, here are some ideas:
1. Sprained Ankle
A common injury that can severely limit mobility. This is useful because your characters will have to experience a mild struggle and adapt their plans to their new lack of mobiliy. Perfect to add tension to a chase scene.
2. Rib Contusion
A painful bruise on the ribs can make breathing difficult, helping you sneak in those ragged wheezes during a fight scene. Could also be used for something sport-related! It's impactful enough to leave a lingering pain but not enough to hinder their overall movement.
3. Concussions
This common brain injury can lead to confusion, dizziness, and mood swings, affecting a character’s judgment heavily. It can also cause mild amnesia.
I enjoy using concussions when you need another character to subtly take over the fight/scene, it's an easy way to switch POVs. You could also use it if you need a 'cute' recovery moment with A and B.
4. Fractured Finger
A broken finger can complicate tasks that require fine motor skills. This would be perfect for characters like artists, writers, etc. Or, a fighter who brushes it off as nothing till they try to throw a punch and are hit with pain.
5. Road Rash
Road rash is an abrasion caused by friction. Aka scraping skin. The raw, painful sting resulting from a fall can be a quick but effective way to add pain to your writing. Tip: it's great if you need a mild injury for a child.
6. Shoulder Dislocation
This injury can be excruciating and often leads to an inability to use one arm, forcing characters to confront their limitations while adding urgency to their situation. Good for torture scenes.
7. Deep Laceration
A deep laceration is a cut that requires stitches. As someone who got stitches as a kid, they really aren't that bad! A 2-3 inch wound (in length) provides just enough pain and blood to add that dramatic flair to your writing while not severely deterring your character.
This is also a great wound to look back on since it often scars. Note: the deeper and wider the cut the worse your character's condition. Don't give them a 5 inch deep gash and call that mild.
8. Burns
Whether from fire, chemicals, or hot surfaces, burns can cause intense suffering and lingering trauma. Like the previous injury, the lasting physical and emotional trauma of a burn is a great wound for characters to look back on.
If you want to explore writing burns, read here.
9. Pulled Muscle
This can create ongoing pain and restrict movement, offering a window to force your character to lean on another. Note: I personally use muscle related injuries when I want to focus more on the pain and sprains to focus on a lack of mobility.
10. Tendonitis
Inflammation of a tendon can cause chronic pain and limit a character's ability to perform tasks they usually take for granted. When exploring tendonitis make sure you research well as this can easily turn into a more severe injury.
This is a quick, brief list of ideas to provide writers inspiration. Since it is a shorter blog, I have not covered the injuries in detail. This is inspiration, not a thorough guide. Happy writing! :)

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
#yeehaw#1k#5k#10k#posts that got cursed. blasted. im making these tag updates after... 19 hours?#also i have been told it should say speech loss bc nonverbal specifically refers to the permanent state. did not know that!#unfortunately i fear it is so far past containment that even if i edited it now it would do very little. but noted for future reference#edit 2: nvm enough ppl have come to rb it from me directly that i changed the wording a bit. hopefully this makes sense#also. in case anyone is curious. though i doubt anyone who is commenting these things will check the original tags#1) my friend did not do this on purpose in any way. it was not intended to distract me or to hit on me. im a lesbian hes a gay man. cmon now#he felt very bad about it afterwards. i thought it was hilarious but it was very embarrassed and apologetic#2) “why didn't he use 🫵🏼?” didn't exist yet. “why didn't he use 🆗?” dunno! we'd been using a lot of hand emojis. 👌🏼 is an ok sign#like it makes sense. it was just a silly mixup. also No i did not invent 👉🏼👌🏼 as a gesture meaning sex. do you live under a rock#3) nonspeaking episodes are a recurring thing in my life and have been since i was born. this is not a quirky one-time thing#it is a pervasive issue that is very frustrating to both myself and the people i am trying to communicate with. in which trying to speak is#extremely distressing and causes very genuine anguish. this post is not me making light of it it's just a funny thing that happened once#it's no different than if i post about a funny thing that happened in conjunction w a physical disability. it's just me talking abt my life#i don't mind character tags tho. those can be entertaining. i don't know what any of you are talking about#Except the ppl who have said this is pego/ryu or wang/xian. those people i understand and respect#if you use it as a writing prompt that's fine but send it to me. i want to see it#aaaand i think that's it. everyday im tempted to turn off rbs on it. it hasn't even been a week

What was considered peak masculinity back in the 2000s is now considered as little meow meow energy in 2024
Tumblr media
This clearly shows how far we've progressed and become even more improved versions of ourselves.
