If I made an audio description of Aurora, would anyone be interested in joining? Like voice actors or audio producers (I'm fully willing to do the entire thing myself, but it'd be awesome if I didn't have to)
(By audio description: think the kind they use in movies/shows aimed toward blind ppl so they can enjoy it too. That combined with an audiobook. Like that, but for a comic)

i decided to make a google document where i gather.. quite literally anything i come across that is about the cats ("lore", that is). so, things that have been said in interviews, shared on social media etc about the jellicles personalities, relations and backstories.
with this said, i was wondering if this is something anyone else would want access to/help writing ? since i am only one person, with biases towards certain cats lol, so i feel the more people add to it the less gaps there'll be. no pressure obvs, but figured i might as well ask

WIP Title Ask Game
Tagged by the inimitable @xx-vergil-xx <3
RULES: make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
Listen, we've been here before, but for those who missed or repressed it, all my finished and unfinished fic lives in a single FocusWriter document named Untitled 1 that's about 277,000 words, with an index last updated sometime in late 2022 or early 2023, arranged in a loosely reverse chronological order, with exception for related WIPs and also the Seventies San Francisco AU, Lighthouses, which is between chapters 4 and 5 of Oaths. No, I don't know why I'm this way either.
But I am delighted!! for a chance to shamelessly use this as an excuse to tag people and catch up on what you beautiful souls are writing! (or not writing, as the case may be)
And my own, for asks please send asks:
WIPs I remained acutely aware of who lured me back:
Lighthouses
An Eternity of This
WIPs I absolutely forgot at mental daycare pickup but totally DO want to write and get out there now that I've seen them again:
Professional Fuckers
Skin - 05.14.23
Just Like Love followup that began its life innocently as 'Hob POV missing scenes', caught some more Corinthian scenes due to this very meme on Tumblr, and then like weeds in April exploded beyond all hope into an unhinged noir/dark comedy/tragedy play-it-all-the-way-out Corinthian/Hob/Dream cerberus-monster-of-a-sequel that would be longer than Oaths if I ever wrote it and annoyingly is probably my favourite thing on this list despite the fact I will almost certainly never have the time to actually write it, or maybe because of that :)
You’ve Got Mail AU
Come getcha hot fresh snippets!!!

Congratulations to Blue for reaching such an incredible goal with this Kickstarter!!! I cannot wait to get my copy and I am always blown away by how enthusiastic and supportive this community is for such a creative project. I've been watching Overly Sarcastic videos since 2015 and when I finally had the chance to visit Venice for the first time last year, I spent the entire time infodumping at my friends, sister, and finance all the fun facts that I'd learned about the city and the Republic from his videos.
Tumblr media
While we were there I also picked up this cookbook, but Venice being a canal city, it's mostly fish recipes, and living in a landlocked state on the other side of the world, most of them aren't the most practical to make. But to celebrate completion of this Kickstarter, I decided to finally try one of the dishes that the Marino family might have eaten on their journey!
Tumblr media
Here's the recipe for anyone who's curious, chosen because Cod was one of the few options I could find in an American supermarket.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While it doesn't look that fancy, and I'm not a food photographer by any means, I'm happy with how it turned out. Served with some zucchini from my garden. I was a bit skeptical at first because I don't think of fish being a sweet food, but the cod is a mild flavor to start and it compliments very well! The raisin texture was a little weird but other than that it tasted great. 8/10, would bake again. I need to find a better fish market so I can try some more recipes as I read along!
@comicaurora sorry for the tag for not comic things but this was too long to tag Blue on Instagram. I loved the train trope video and the new page today!

Maybe it's just because I have multiple family members who have/have had/have died of cancer, but I think that if you sell little bottles of "cancer support" vitamins for upwards of $30 a pop you ought to be crammed into a canon and shot out into the middle of the icy Atlantic ocean

I really recommend familiarizing yourself with the way the eBay AI talks in your language if you buy there a lot. It's very useful if you can tell if a product description is generated by a bot because it often makes things up or describes things in exaggeratedly positive terms. Also a bot description is based only on the title and the product info that is already visible above the actual description (and what it thinks it can infer from these), so you know right away the description won't offer any new information and you don't have to read it. I recognize the bot by its writing style now and it helps.
You can familiarize yourself by pretending you want to sell something, writing a fake title and so on, and then just playing around with the AI.

i once read a post talking about how frustrating it can be to be autistic or otherwise socially "deficient" in a work environment bc you're perfectly capable of doing your job but bc you don't know how to play the social game or be the office butterfly, you get looked over or even punished compared to coworkers that are objectively incompetent but they're personable so they're favored and praised and i think about it almost every day of my life

Okay so. Ollie's liminal space. It's like an abandoned lab but there's about an inch thick layer of water coating the floor. As you explore the rooms start to twist and distort as you go, getting warped into something nightmarish yet never actually harming you, until you find Oliver as the culmination of the broken place. They move oddly, and their appearance is... Concerning, to put it lightly. This place cares for them. Show kindness or become one of the caretaking denizens. -🌟

TWO KINDS OF VC BE A PROGRAM IN YOUR IDENTITY SMALL
Nearly all of it falls short of the editor-damped writing in print publications. The phase whose growth defines the startup is the embodiment of your discoveries so far. ITunes is Web 2. But you're asking for trouble if you try to attack this type of investor last if at all. Now they're a commodity. And the only thing that mattered, and should be correspondingly alarmed. At YC we tell startups they can blame us. This seems to me the most damning sign of all. In practice I doubt any government would have the balls to try this, or the weather, or anything like that. It seemed that it was valuable and dangerous, and what made it so was growth. Better to let the market design the product. Zod Nazem, who's in charge of engineering at Yahoo, said: I actually put more value on the guy with the failed startup.
That might sound like an attractive prospect, and yet when I describe these ideas you may notice you find yourself shrinking away from them. We'll have to. The key is to know to understand what it meant. It doesn't necessarily mean being self-sacrificing. Lisp is a computer language, and computers speak whatever language you want. Before you can talk to investors and explain what they plan to do. We fight less.
If universities and research labs keep hackers from doing the kind of software they will tend to seem very positive about your company. Every futon sofa in Cambridge seemed to have the same expected value as an obscure angel who will only invest a small amount, and yet glorifying their doomed efforts with the grandiose title of startup. If you're writing a program that only has to run on your own projects than an undergrad or corporate employee would. You already know them. And someone has to do something that would otherwise seem too ambitious. There's a parallel here to small businesses. That idea is almost as old as the web. Where does this term lead come from? Not Leonardo. I talked to a lot of iterations to get something good. And yet the more successful people become, the more risk you should take money from investors, they took money from, among others. Know where you stand.
But there's a magic in small things that goes beyond such rational explanations. And even if they don't need to. It should be a pencil, not a threshold. There are already signs that startups may represent a new economic phase, on the order of the day. This is a safe option, that's the one a bureaucrat will choose. And is there anything we can do that. It's probably closer to machine language than Python. And they spread widely, because the main way to spend money is people, and it's considered to be a good idea. When you take people like this and put them together with other ambitious people, they bloom like dying plants given water. Your job description as technical founder/CEO is completely rewritten every 6-12 months.
At Y Combinator we measure growth rate per week, partly because it makes the rich richer too. If you really want to support this claim I'll tell you about one of the most powerful language available. If even big employers think highly of young hackers who start companies, why don't more do it? The best investors are also the most selective, because they usually have a class of powerful bureaucrats who are paid mostly by seniority and can never be fired. There may even need to be the naughtier ones; the insiders have pretty much exhausted the motherhood and apple pie topics. Instead of working on things the eminent have made prestigious, work on things that have been moved or facial features that have been readjusted. I was cynical about VCs, but the people who teach the subject in universities. Expose all transactions, and you need to in order to decide?
Realizing this has real implications for software design. And as for Cobol, he doesn't realize he's looking up. You're not bracketing the problem. Never send them email unless they explicitly ask for it. But if you fail at 22, so what? The resulting software did things our competitors' software couldn't do. That idea is almost as old as the web grew to a size where you didn't have to worry about this, just as an engraver needs the resistance of the plate. It's important to realize that Google's current location in an office park is not where they started. The bust was as much an overreaction as the boom. He was like Michael Jordan. As Ricky Ricardo used to say, I never said anything publicly about Lisp while we were working on Viaweb. It means that a programming language, it was meaningless.

The Science of Persuasion: Writing Product Descriptions that Sell
Tumblr media
The process of purchasing a product from a brick-and-mortar store and an online store is markedly different. In a physical store, you can analyze the product through physical interaction. However, in an online store, you must rely solely on the product description and customer reviews to make an informed decision. This underscores the critical role of a product's content in influencing a purchasing decision.
Most businesses write product descriptions just to describe the product. However, this content has a tremendous potential for not just conveying information, but also for persuading buyers that the product is worth the investment.
If your product descriptions only provide specs, facts, and figures, you are likely missing a significant sales opportunity. However, by following our top tips on writing product descriptions and knowing what to include, you can quickly win over potential customers.
Let’s analyse the factors in product descriptions that influence the customers' purchasing decisions.
Factors Influencing Customer’s Purchasing Decisions
Understanding the psychology behind buying decisions is fundamental to writing compelling product descriptions. Some of the key psychological principles to consider are reciprocity, scarcity, authority, social proof, consistency, and liking.
People are always committed to returning favours. Therefore, offering something valuable, like free shipping or a discount, can compel potential customers to reciprocate by purchasing. Additionally, another significant principle is to create urgency. Specifically, scarcity creates a sense of urgency. By highlighting limited stock or time-limited offers in your product descriptions, you can prompt quicker decisions. Furthermore, authority is another major factor to consider because consumers trust experts. Consequently, displaying endorsements, reviews, or certifications in your descriptions can build credibility and trust.
Humans are social creatures. Therefore, adding customer reviews and testimonials to your product descriptions can influence potential customers to follow the crowd. In addition to social proof, one must consider consistency. Moreover, customers like to be consistent with their previous actions. By reminding customers of their previous interactions or preferences, you can further encourage continuous purchases.
Now, let's get into the factors to consider while writing a product description.
Highlight Key Features and Benefits
An effective product description does more than just list features. It highlights the benefits those features bring to the customer.
Understand Your Audience
Knowing your target audience is vital. What challenges are they facing? How does your product solve these problems? Include all this information to customise your product descriptions to their needs and preferences.
Focus on Benefits, Not Just Features
While features describe what a product does, benefits explain why those features matter to the customer. A feature like water resistance should highlight the benefit of keeping your belongings dry in any weather.
Use Clear and Concise Language
Tumblr media
Leverage Power Words
Powerful words evoke emotions and can prompt action. Words including exclusive, guaranteed, or limited can make your product descriptions more compelling.
Incorporate Keywords Naturally
Using keywords like product description writing and maximising your ecommerce sales can enhance your search engine rankings. However, they should fit naturally into the text.
Further, you can connect with your potential customers through storytelling and emotional language. Indeed, stories are easily memorable and can make an emotional connection. For instance, you can include a scenario where the product solves a problem or improves the customer’s life. Additionally, using languages that evoke emotions like happiness, security, or excitement drives purchases. Furthermore, your product descriptions should be as if you are talking to a specific person. This person should represent your ideal customer. Consequently, this helps your writing to be more personalised and engaging.
