Hey, I’m back into my writeblr era again so introducing myself real quick. I’m Reni, Singaporean-Chinese, 25, she/her, and I write fantasy/speculative fiction. I’m a huge fan of second chances (preferably if they’re platonic or familial), lovers to enemies, found then unfound family trope. A Memory to Hunger (formerly titled THD)

When bodies from the morgue go missing, a memory thief joins a flapper to take part in a dangerous affair with an underground mob, in hopes to find the truth. Though their plan is not that simple when the siblings cross paths with a notorious killer. The suspect in question might be the evidence to their erased past. [ crime fantasy, koschei retelling ] 

Alas WIP

The Lacedaemonids are gifted in the art of war and Hyakinthos is no exception. He dreams of fame, to be remembered eternally and it grows into an obsession when he attracts the gods’ attention. Like the cruel fates unraveling the string, jealousy begins to split the young prince and his siblings apart, soon the kingdom. [ historical fantasy, horror ]

Armie hadn’t expected to find Dmitriy in the infirmary, but he wasn’t in his quarters, so this was the next place to look, according to Magda, who spent the most amount of time with Dmitriy. But there he was, standing a few feet away from the curtain dividing the room. Dr. Mays was nowhere to be seen. Armie frowned.

“Dmitriy?” he asked, voice quiet. The astronomer turned, hands falling from his face, staring at Armie with vacant, wide eyes. Armie’s eyes narrowed, and he stepped closer to his crewmate, forehead creased in worry. “Dmitriy, what happened?”

Dmitriy shook his head, and Armie swore he saw tears gather in his eyes. Armie stepped up to him now, put a hand on either of Dmitriy’s upper arms, squeezing a little in an attempt to ground him. He wasn’t good at this, didn’t really know how to handle it, but he’d seen this done in movies before, so hopefully it worked.

ABOUT ME

Hi everyone! I’m Solène (but you can call me Sol), a french twenty-something. My pronouns are she/her, and i’m queer. I’ve had this writeblr for about a year and a half, but things have changed a lot and I feel it’s time for a new introduction. I’m currently doing a master in speech and language pathology.

I started writing around 12 years ago, but my relationship with it evolved a lot throughout the years. Now, I’m currently easying back in it, so I might not be quite regular with writing updates. 

I love to gush about writing, characters arcs, and i’m tag games friendly! 

My WIPS

I’ve currently introduced 3 WIPs here, but I have... many. But here are those that i’m focusing on! 

ZHAREVERSE - all the following wips are situated in the zhareverse, an alternate world mixing magic wielders commonly known as zhares and 1930′s technology. 

- deeds by the water: the story of 3 girls entering a movement to fight for women and magic wielders rights following the political mesures took by the government after a dark prophecy became public. [MASTERPOST]

- darkness before dawn: the story of the chosen one in the aforementioned dark prophecy. As Peter tries to reconnect with her long lost sister, Esther, tension rises in the country in hopes to gather strength before the prophecy comes true. tag #darkness before dawn

- drowning in the clouds: seven misfits sets to find the lost land of Svarja, each with their own reasons. tag #drowning in the clouds

- the rot in vielleri: as murmurs about the returning of a Saint plagues the small town of vielleri, Arabella Casetti tries to save her farm from the rot that is spreading in the region. tag #the rot in vielleri

RETELLINGS - low fantasy versions of fairytales, myths, and folklore.

- dance of thorns - a girl plagued by grief and anger makes a faustian deal with a strange being in the forest, in the hopes to protect her siblings. retelling of the myth of Cassandre of Troy. tag #dance of thorns

- melody of violets - a group of teens tries to discover the reason behind children disappearances in their tiny town, without realizing they might be the next. Retelling of the pied piper of hamburg. [MASTERPOST]

dfghjklm what a sweet prompt! i love it! 

First, i need a good pat on the back because i’m really starting to remake a good relationship with writing; it had become such an important part of my life that at one point i forgot it was supposed to be fun, but i think i’m getting there and it’s great. so yyaaayyy! 

but also, i need to shout out some writeblrs who absolutely rock and i admire them all very very much. 

@jmtwrites has a native wip, History of Kings, and this is such a good story!!! i love the detailed worldbuilding and everything about it. Her prose is *chef’s kiss* and i think one of her lines now lives freely in my head. If you like speculation, fantasy, politics and grey characters, this is definitely a recommandation you must not miss! (Also, Javi is the best, i love her so much). 

@godknives‘ most proeminent wip, a murder of ravens, is one i love to see evolve! nora just knows how to make a world, and they weaves and intertwines the different aspects of worldbuilding beautifully. Also, their prose is quite dark, and rich, and still it reads itself easily. it’s like drinking a hot chocolat, you know? it’s thick in the best way. And their characters are so intriguing, I can’t wait to see them evolve. 

@hydrancheas has multiple WIPs and post sometimes poetry on their discord server, and it’s always a burst of light seeing them post something, even if after you lie in your bed, reconsidering everything you thought you knew about the world because their writing is just that good. They know how to write very specific emotions in beautiful ways and to set the tone of a scene is few sentences that just swept you in. 

@glitterandstarshine have beautiful WIPs that always seems so whimsical to me. They’re so full of light, even when they treat dark themes. I think it’s also because of Magnus’ writing style ? It’s very flowy, and it enchants you. Yes, even if they write different genres between sf and fantasy, you can always find that distinctive prose that i love so much. Magnus is always very thougthful of the way their characters interconnects and influence each other, and the thought process behind it is always so cool to witness! 

And lastly, I am mostly familiar with the Moon Boy, a WIP by @the-starlight-writer​, but they have others, but oh my god, i love it so so much. Their characters are so palpable sometimes I feel like they’re just human beings and Noodle is just relating their stories. Noodle specialize in hurt/comfort for their characters and for the readers, which means they’re going to make us get through 1001 emotions in their WIP and I really need to brace myself. 

All those people are genuinely good, amazing people, and I’m glad I know them <3

Today is Friendly Friday! Shamelessly recommend your WIPs, your writings, and your Writeblrs to me! Don't feel insecure about it, praise yourself to the skies, tell me what you absolutely rock, your strong suit, your weak suit, your favorite suit - go off and be proud of yourself while you're at it.

Add some lines of an excerpt if you feel like it! Your writing is for you and first and foremost, you deserve to be so so proud of everything you write and come up with, so don't feel shy about praising yourself!

You can also give me a mix of writeblrs and wips, one of your own and one, two, or three (four, five, six, twelve, a hundred - there is no limit) of other writeblrs you admire and love seeing on your dash.

If that's taking too many spoons you can merely send some lines you recently liked about your writing or a few lines of someone elses writing you loved reading.

As Verva settled to sit, her brothers grinned identical grins. They were not twins, but those who did not know them could be forgiven for thinking they were - Adrit and Nolo were only a year separated in age, and looked a great deal alike. Verva, the younger sister, was the different sibling, her hair red instead of brown, her face sharp and elfin rather than sturdy. Though, when they all sat down together as they did tonight, one could see that they were related.
