What ships do you have for Yu-Gi-Oh! male leads and the Yu-Gi-Oh! series you have seen?

For most of the main characters, I don't really have any ships! Not opposed to an idea of any of them in relationships, but one of the reasons I got into yugioh was the lack of romantic subplots. This being said, I am an utter fiend for starshipping (Jaden x Yusei)

They're two of the most ace aro idiots of all time how are they dating no one knows it doesn't even look like a relationship to most people, but they know each others demons they are foils they are soulmates.... I will yell about this to my dying day. I have an entire aspec romance novel sitting uncompleted in my drafts about this. They just get eachother despite being completely different breeds of people.

Also Jesse having a crush on Jaden and having to get over it and settle into this completely anormative chaos relationship where they're soulmates who aren't dating but are each others' Most Important Person.... Yubel accepting and loving Jaden just the way they are now regardless of promises made in the past.... I see a queerplatonic ship and I go "Mh yes delicious."

Look. I may love the Team Taiyo vs Team 5Ds duel a heck of a lot (its so Dramatic and I am here for that) but it makes absolutely no sense how Team Taiyo made it through the prelims without summoning Zushin. I guess if they got absurdly lucky and had a hand full of speed spells every other turn to quickly knock out their opponents with SW2 but that feels like such a huge stretch to win three duels like that that I can't even entertain that thought. It would have made so much more sense for them to face off in the prelims (granted, then Yusei wouldn't have Accel Synchro yet, but that's a Different Problem, lol)

ygo5dsmonth/Week 2024 Day 4 - iDuel

Since the prompt is music, I thought we could talk about the visuals in the 5D's openings maybe? So here are my favorite parts, and some things I noticed in general

Opening 1 Kizuna

The beginning with the Signers, Godwin and the dragon marks looks super cool. Too bad I don't like the music that goes along with it, haha. A little Jack and Yusei heavy, but it's alright, at least the side characters get time to shine too

Opening 2 Last Train

It's soooo good, a like practically everything here. The new characters and monsters get presented well, and everyone has some solid screen presence. The coolest parts are the view of the Dark Signers in their lair, Kiryu appearing on his D-Wheel, and the Signers at the end (the Dark Signers look cooler though, sorry fellas)

Only thing that bothers me is how Godwin shows up so little in the opening, he's (barely) more in the ending ffs, and he's the final villain of this arc. I know that was a twisted plot twist and I'm the only one who cares, but still

Opening 3 Freedom

Phew, the opening wastes no time to tell you that this is the Yusei/Jack/Crow show now, Rua, Ruka and Aki get into the back right now! And if you're focusing so heavily on the boys at least let them do something other than standing/driving casually, you're not really hyping me up like this OP. Fun fact: this was the first japanese opeining the german dub decided to leave in, after they started dubbing the 4kids version and did their own synchro

Why should I care about the stupid WRGP (You're a grand prick!) again? Sigh, tournaments for the sole sake of getting better at something work better before you save the world from certain doom (but that's a writing problem not an opening problem)

The Majestic/Savior dragons look cool at least, and I like that this sequence kinda mirrors the dragons from Last Train, just in their evolved forms

Opening 4 Believe in Nexus

The villains get to look cool for a hot minute, damn. Although Lucciano is the only one with rollerblades, so him sliding and everything makes sense. The other two...are robots and ignore how uncomfortable this should be

Sherry too? They must feel really sorry for having to remove her from the plot

Ally of Justice monsters, so scary! Isn't that the archetype that only ever had one good monster, a generic synchro? But of course everyone has to be dumbass in this arc and plays light monsters, which Ally of Justice is strong against

Opening 5 Road to Tomorrow-Going My Way!!

This is intense as you can see on the two exclamation marks in the title. At long last the other Signers get to be something other than background filler. Also it's so fuckin funny how Yusei and Crow roll out all their Synchros, even those they don't use anymore

and meanwhile Jack...

I refuse to play anything besides Red Demon's Dragon!!!

Jack: Man, I'm sure gonna miss to have someone to stand on rooftops with, once Arc V rolls arround

Aki had long given up on trying to fix the tangled lights, instead passing the task to Yusei. He was always more patient than her, willing to put up with a lot more than she ever could. She watched him from across the room as she pouted over it, wondering how she'd gotten so lucky to find someone so willing to put up with her. He never seemed to direct his anger at her - only gentleness and kindness. She didn't know what she'd done to deserve it, but she was grateful regardless. Some days she thought he might realize that he deserved far better than her, and cotton on to the fact he could have anyone in the city. She'd seen how people like Andre had eyed him, and she'd thought then that he might have realized... but he never did.

Yusei still looked at her the same way. He still pressed her against the wall backstage, and kissed her like nothing had changed. Like a world superstar hadn't made his interest clear. Yusei was sitting in her apartment, undoing the lights to hang up on her patio like he had no one better to be with. She chewed her bottom lip, wondering when the pin would drop. She couldn't help but be jealous - it wasn't right of her, but she was. He glanced up from his task, and smiled at her. "Sorry," he said, and her heart thudded in her chest. "This is taking a while. When did you last use these?"

"Uhh, a few years ago," she admitted. She wasn't much of a holidays person. She'd spent most of them alone, feeling like a monster. Little kids who were evil didn't get presents, after all. "I'm not... much of a person to celebrate Christmas."

"Me either," he joked with a wink, and Aki flushed. Part of that was certainly due to his upbringing in Satellite, and the other part was probably due to the conflict of religion. If Aki was honest, she had a hard time seeing it as a Pagan holiday too. Yet they'd agreed to put up the decorations anyway for their friends and for Lua and Luka - they were due home any day now. "I don't think I was missing much if most of it is undoing lights."

Aki smiled softly, moving to help him with the lights. She settled next to him, leaning her head against his shoulder as she undid a knot. "Maybe we should store them better for next year." If he'd want to be around for next year, she couldn't help but think. The doomerism in her had never really left, but she was trying her best to live in the moment. "If you... want."

He glanced over at her, inspecting her in a way that left her picked raw - how did he always manage to do that? He always could see right through her, as if she was made of glass and just as fragile. She'd never considered herself delicate before him, but he had a way of finding all the spots of her she'd tried to hide. He dropped the lights in his hand, and she pulled away from him. She almost expected him to get up and leave, but he always surprised her. Yusei cupped her cheek, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to her lips. It was just a simple peck, yet it felt like it lasted for ages. When he pulled away, he whispered softly, "I'd be happy to."

And somehow, she just knew he wasn't just talking about the lights.

I love these three so much???? Seriously, watching their duel against Team 5Ds gets more entertaining with every rewatch. They deserved to have that whole stadium cheering for them, damn it!

doesn't placido's route literally have you kill yusei in front of aki and then he taunts her for it like "now you know how it is to lose the one you love"?? THAT WAS SO FUCKED

OK YEAH. YEAH. ABOUT THAT. SO THAT ROUTE IS ACTUALLY PRIMO/PLACIDO'S TAG FORCE 6 ROUTE. AND I THINK ABOUT IT EVERY GODDAMN DAY.

like. the Three Emperors arent even like Tier-1 characters in TF6, they dont get unique story routes like the core cast, they dont get a unique endroute picture like in Tag Force 5, they just get plugged into the same WRGP team ups for all of their heart events. it's actually extremely hard to find adequate archiving of their events cuz, again, theyre not 'main' characters in this game. BUT FORTUNATELY. I AM UNWELL. AND I PLAYED ALL THREE OF THEIR ROUTES. AND ARCHIVED ALL THE ENDINGS. I assumed the three of them were gonna have some kind of generic endgame due to this. AND BOY WAS I. GREATLY INCORRECT.

Primo's storyline DOES END WITH HIM JUST KILLING YUSEI DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF AKIZA. AND YOURE COMPLICIT IN IT.

LIKE. DUDE??!? IN THE FUNNY YUGIOH VIDEO GAME FOR THE PSP???!?! YUSEI IS DEAD DEAD, HE DOESNT COME BACK HERE. JESUS CHRIST.

and then as if that wasn't enough, IMMEDIATELY after that the Ark Cradle descends and you have to hop on over there with Primo. And then you get there and he basically tells you how Relieved and Excited He Is To Die, and You Should Be Too.

^this fucks me up so much. that little smile. guy who is SO excited to give his life for a cause that doesn't give a shit about him. also sorry about my deck name JDFJGDF

Anyway he also talks to you about being created from despair and being made to act as God's vessel of punishment and how the people of this timeline should accept the fate God ("""God""") has decreed for them and it's honestly i think it's all one of my absolute favorite Tag Force conversations, it says SO much about Primo's character and it deserves a dedicated post of its own sometime.

And then it ends with him being like "that woman is going to come here and she's going to be pissed and it's our job to guard the Ark Cradle now" which just presents, such an amazing and haunting concept in that regard. This idea of Akiza leading the charge of the Signers to avenge Yusei's death. my GOD.

it's so fucked. it makes me cuckoo bananas. why did they go so hard on this story route that isnt even for one of TF6's main characters. Bad Guy Wins AU REAL!!

3. which one outlives the other, and how they cope

ohhhh my god. honestly probably jack but he would NOT cope whatsoever. losing someone you love is something jack struggles a lot with, so he would probably have a pretty horrific depressive episode over it.

6. how they decorated their bedroom

i fully imagine a room with soft purples and greens ngl. maybe paired with white? they've got a few bookcases with divine's literature and jack's manga all mixed in together, along with a plush of red dragon archfiend sat on the top of divine's "to read" pile. their bedding is super thick and soft (in the winter at least). there's photos on the walls of their family too (team 5ds winning the wrgp, divine with aki at her uni graduation, a photo of jack and yusei at yusei's wedding, that sorta stuff)

9. which one swears more

absolutely jack, without a doubt. (divine DOES swear too, jack just grew up in satellite and has some creative swears for things)

12. what they do for their anniversary

they tend to go on holidays (abroad or a staycation, both work) around their anniversary and make a bit of a big deal of it. when they get married, their wedding anniversary is the one they celebrate via trips (oh and lots of sex)

15. what they would change about each other

the sap in me wants to say nothing but it's probably small stupid shit, like jack leaves the light on when leaving a room and divine lowkey hoards coffee cups in his office. nothing too serious

This is my favourite episode of WRGP now and I won't be taking any criticism. I'm sad it took me this long to see it.

The more I watch Zexal, the more I begin to slowly, unironically believe that A5 may actually be the second best Gallop Yugioh series.

Now, I say this and you think "HUH!? But Xyz Arc!!!! Most of Fusion!!! Synchro's Length!!! The poor Time Management!!!! The poor use of the Side Cast!!! How can you defend that!?!?!?!?"

I'm not defending it. That's all true. Thing is, Zexal, GX, and 5ds all use their casts just as poorly, have just as much filler, manage their time with just as much incompetence, and have just as much nonsense going on.

Remember when GX just killed off half its sidecast for a season? Remember how Aki was relegated to benchwarmer and Ruka and Leo got sub 10 duels over 142 episodes? Remember how Zexal brainwashed and hostaged the numbers club 5 separate times?

Remember the 30-episode gap between 5ds Dark Signers finale and the WRGP where nothing of value happens? Remember, like, the entirety of Zexal I, the temple run arc of Zexal II, and the fuckin Mr Heartland and his miniboss-trio-mini-arc created purely to clumsily jam the Tron bros back into the script? Remember GX season 1 and 2?

You know what A5 has that all those series don't have? A single continuous narrative that doesn't awkwardly jump between seventeen tenuously connected arcs. A final boss that is foreshadowed in Episode 1. An established, if lame as fuck, main villain. An emphasis on card games that doesn't occasionally leap into people fighting monsters with swords. A consistent, if shitty as fuck, set of themes.

I, myself, cannot believe I'm saying this, but I think A5 is genuinely, like, one of the good eggs.
