Make Holiday Wreath Inspired by Nature @ Great Mountain Forest
A quintessential symbol of the holidays, the wreath, is practically de riguer for yuletide decorating. Making a wreath from locally foraged greens and pinecones gathered by the staff of Norfolk/Canaan’s Great Mountain Forest (GMF) is a gratifying way to add festive flair, naturally, to your home. Best of all, GMF’s Wreath Workshop features boughs from species you will not encounter anywhere else!…

A poem by Forester McClatchey
Tumblr media
Wreathmaking
The hard, dark berries, blue as black snakes are blue, befogged with newness, clench their pips in scaly tufts of green, each branch an elenchus of logic, a spray of craze, an attack
on soft fingers walking through them, your fingers calling shape from the bedlam of life with brutal twists of form. You flick the knife to smooth a stem, a cedar stem; its fur
heaps greenly on your shoes, as if you’d skinned a wooly tree, not trimmed it, to make a wreath. Completed circle, made of endings, shaped
to hint what never ends, it tricks and bends the eye to green forevers, clever deaths of death, where girls and berries do escape.

National Wreaths Across America Day
National Wreaths Across America Day is a day each year when wreath-laying ceremonies take place at Arlington National Cemetery, and at more than 1,200 other locations—in all fifty states and around the world. The wreath laying is done to remember all fallen US veterans, to honor those who serve, and to teach children the value of freedom. Volunteers place wreaths on veterans graves while saying their names out loud, to help keep their memories alive.
At the age of twelve, Morrill Worcester visited Washington D.C., and Arlington National Cemetery had a profound effect on him. Worcester grew up to be a wreathmaker and the owner of the Worcester Wreath Company, and in 1992 he had a surplus of about 5,000 wreaths, and had them placed on headstones in Arlington National Cemetery. Other individuals and organizations helped him over the following years, but it was not until 2005, when an image of the wreaths went viral, that what he had been doing gained national attention.
In 2006, the Civil Air Patrol and others helped facilitate the laying of wreaths at over 150 locations across the United States. The Patriot Guard Riders escorted the wreaths that were transported to Arlington. Since then, a "Veterans Honor Parade" travels the east coast each year in early December. Wreaths Across America was formed as a non-profit in 2007. Congress designated the day as Wreaths Across America Day with a resolution the following year. Today, many individuals, volunteer groups, trucking companies, and corporations, work together to lay wreaths all over the country and beyond.
How to Observe
There are many ways you can participate in National Wreaths Across America Day. You can sponsor a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery, or at your local cemetery, or with a fundraising group. You can also volunteer to place wreaths at a cemetery. If you have a local cemetery that does not participate in the day, you can sign them up and be a local coordinator. You could also lead a fundraising group. If you have a company, you can provide corporate support, and if you have a trucking company you can help transport wreaths. Finally, you could show your support by buying something from the Wreaths Across America gift shop, and by visiting the Wreaths Across America museum in Columbia Falls, Maine.

razzek Heh that is like a textbook description of ADHD, right down to the self medicating with alcohol and drugs XD Someone give these satyrs some art supplies and teach them how to write XD
Strangely enough, satyrs are known for being creatively gifted too! Whatever they lack intellectually, they make up for creatively. They're most famous for their sense of rhythm, music, and dance, but some also express creativity through painting, writing, sculpting, or other artistic mediums.
Of course pursuing a creative hobby requires money, down time, and a safe place to work, which many satyrs lack in modern times. They spend much of their time fighting to survive in hostile urban environments, and at the end of the day it's easier to wind down by getting drunk than it is to paint a picture.
However, if you venture into the deepest corners of the wilderness, you can still find some satyrs living the feral lifestyle their ancestors did. These individuals are more in their element, without all the urban distractions. They are more at peace, and since they feel safer and more secure, they engage in more creative hobbies like dance, body painting, whittling, wreathmaking, and so on. Being able to express themselves freely means they are less prone to substance abuse like their urban kin.
There are many artistic satyrs in the Looming Gaia series. Ginger expresses her creativity through cooking and tailoring, Itchy through music and drawing, Feztavi through dance and acting, and Allmother through monster forging. Tomato apparently likes to draw too.
Even Dr. Che is praised for his creativity, which he uses to find unorthodox solutions to all the bizarre medical problems his patients present to him. He barely has any resources, yet he takes what little he does have + his own creativity and just...manages to pull solutions out of his ass with it, somehow.
Brogan is the only exception I can think of. We haven't seen him do anything creative in the series yet. But I think in his case, he probably doesn't have time because Gwyneth works him so hard. Dude gets up before sunrise, works his butt off throwing freight and helping customers until sundown and then passes out. Every single day.
But if he did have the time and energy, I wonder what he would gravitate towards?

KUPALA: THE ELEMENT OF WATER.
Ukrainians are known worldwide for their talents in the ancient art of wreath making. Wreathmaking is passed from Mother to Daughter, and used for many different ceremonies. Wreaths play a part in the water rituals for Kupala Night.. Like Fire, it represents purification, especially during this magikal night Early followers believed in the healing powers of Kupala Water Elements. Observers still wash their faces in the Kupala morning dew today.
The element of Water is also connected to fertility. Single eligible women weave exceptionally beautiful wreaths on this day. They let them go into the river to float downstream as part of this ceremony. There's often a candle to “light” the wreath’s way. The flow patterns are “water scryed” by Yagas to foretell of future romantic relationships. Men would often hurdle fast waters to catch the flower wreaths, in hopes of getting the attentions of the woman who wove the wreath and set it afloat. The Water ritual also includes bathing in natural waters-rivers, for example. A communal sacred bath for the women takes place in Kupala waters because all water is magik on this eve. The sacred bathing ritual is considered a purification, for clearing the path to come. Water represents the feminine-going inward for insight and intuition. Her dance partner, Fire, is masculine. The elements represent the dance of fertility of good harvests, and between man and woman.
