Authors note: Just a small disclaimer, I’m not deaf nor do I know anyone who’s deaf so if I get some things wrong or inaccurate please correct me. I did some research of course but I could still get things wrong so ye

-When you first meet, Ralph would be super confused on why you can’t seem to hear him

-And even more confused when you start to talk to him in sign language

-After some back and forth, he understands you’re deaf and tries to find some other ways to communicate

-Once he does understand your condition, he’ll begin to accommodate everything he does so that you never feel excluded

-Once you both start dating, he’ll try to learn sign language in secret

-Mostly because he wants to surprise you with what he’s learned but also because he’s a little shy in asking for help

-Oh and if you wear hearing aids? He’ll guard them with his life

-He knows how expensive they are so he always keeps an eye out for them

-it gets to the point where you won’t know where they are without him

-Oh and having a conversation with Ralph in sign language would be adorable bc sometimes he’ll forget how to sign a word or something

-And his lil face of confusion is to die for

-If you like listening to music, he’ll put on your favorite song on blast to make sure you can feel the vibrations on the speaker

-He’ll definitely write down the lyrics or something like that for you

-btw he definitely leaves little hearts on the pages for you

-Constantly says “I love you” in sign anytime he gets

-But he also tries to convey it in a way that doesn’t need words

-Like kissing the side of your temple and gently running his fingers on your hand are what mean “I love you” to him

-Just physical touch in general for him is >>>>

-Loves loves lovesss to give you flowers with special meanings as another way to tell you how much you mean to him

-Oh and if you do the same back to him??? He’s literally already engulfed you into a death grip of a hug and kissing you all over your face

story where some random woman becomes queen of a kingdom where the throne is said to be cursed because of all the coincidental heir-to-the-throne deaths and is absolutely not on board with this, she was perfectly content with her edge of the land territory where she could actually have a moment of peace bc people weren't constantly kicking down her doors all day about the land's horrible management problems because she actually did her job looking out for the welfare of her citizens and the entire kingdom wasn't aggressively debating her legitimacy.

so what does she do? abdicate like a normal person? no. she's extra and I want her to do things impractically so I can have a story.

so girlboss just engages in incredibly and increasingly convoluted plots to stage her own dethroning and every single time it just does the exact opposite of what she wants it to do.

fake someone else having more legit claim to the throne? accidentally uncover irrefutable evidence of the next five people in line actually having committed treason.

try and hire someone to stage a fake coup? the guys she hired fail so badly at it that they accidentally storm the wrong castle and now they're wanted next kingdom over for the most pathetic attempt at a hostile takeover in the past 600 years of recorded history.

try and get a fortune teller to fake prophesise that she'd suck as queen and needs to leave? the wizard advisor who got rid of the last 16 heirs because their vibes all sucked slides the fortune teller 20 bucks extra to prophesise the opposite.

so these two people are engaging in barely concealed to the court antics in attempts to either Not have to deal with all the crud rulers have to deal with or keep the current one in place because the past guys were all pathetic and she may hate it but she actually does her job pretty okay.

she may hate being queen but it's not like she's going to screw over the kingdom at large and it's citizens to get out of it.

eventually she gets desperate and tries to fake her kidnapping by like a dragon or something in exchange for some gold and the dragon and the wizard are old pals from fantasy hijinks college and this woman is halfheartedly yoinked from a picnic and dropped in a really tall tree literally anybody with rope and a ladder could get up and she's back grumpily drawing up ethical infrastructure upkeep plans in less than two hours.

wizard advisor grinning smugly at her while she, exhaustedly and frustrated that nobody would do this before her, signs union protections into law while her attempt of the day to go off and live in a cottage somewhere fails loudly in the background.

she just wants to sleep in past 6 am and not have to deal with big social minefield parties and also not have to deal with assassins from the families of the past 16 terribly pathetic rulers for ten seconds meanwhile court wizard ameilia is forcing her to attend alliance meetings and bringing to her attention the egregious policy failings of the past rulers that she can't just LEAVE LIKE THAT.

so this goes on until eventually most of the glaring issues have been addressed and she just realizes hey wait why didn't I just coordinate a coup with wizard ameilia so she could do all this instead since she's so insistent on fixing everything.

and then she asks and wizard ameilia admits that she also hates paperwork but somebody had to do it.

and then she just pettily throws the contents of her inkwell at her and goes back to reversing some random past king's dumb law he made because he wanted to save face for some dumb embarrassing thing he did while also writing herself a not to assign wizard woman ameilia nine extra court responsibilities and an apprentice so if the next ruler after her sucks at their job they can force some random person with some level of morals into enacting ethical policy too.

this probably makes no sense and I am writing this 46 minutes past midnight but I think it's funny and if I actually put this into chaptered writing I am not really focusing on the ethics or political side of things. I am entirely doing this just to see how far into absurdity I can push this woman's 'someone please dethrone me I need a nap' plotting.

"You look perfect, Blue." He replied with a smile. At hearing that he was the android's first actual friend, he felt both flattered, but saddened by the statement. "Well...a friend is someone you can always talk to. Somebody who you like a lot, and wouldn't mind doing things with...I guess I wanted to be your friend because...well, because I know what it's like to be scared and alone. It's not a good feeling, and I wouldn't want someone as nice as you to ever go through that again, no matter what."

He slightly looked away after making making the statement. "Ah, look at me, rambling again...what I'm trying to say is...in summary, I like you, and being your friend is something I consider nice as well..."

Blue’s habitually tense shoulders relaxed a little at Henry’s touch, for once not flinching away. He found he rather enjoyed the sensation of the comb running through his scalp, his eyes closing as it calmed him. They reopened quickly as Henry referred to him as a friend again. “friends…,” he mumbled almost inaudibly to himself. His LED switched to yellow as he processed it.

“You’re my first friend, Henry,” he spoke up as Henry continued to work out his tangles. ”….what makes us friends?” He wondered aloud. Whatever it was, he wanted to do more of it.

He went to touch his hair as Henry finished, reveling at how smooth it now was. He turned to look up at Henry, a shy smile on his face, “….-does it look good?”

"It's for the flower shop." Henry replied, handing one of the last ones he had to Connor with a slight smile. "The owner had asked me to hand them out to try and get more customers."

He was a little intrigued by the android detective's curiosity. From what he'd heard from others, he assumed that Connor wouldn't be so easy to converse with. However, he still chose to act more like an android in his presence...the detective was indeed a deviant hunter after all.

Conor blinked back to reality as the light turned green, indicating he could walk. He stepped  across the street, stoping once done to take in his suroundings. He watched the WR600 handing out flowers as well as interacting with a little girl. Slowly he approched. “Why did you give her a flower?” He questioned, trying to piece together why the android would be giving this child a flower when she could give him nothing in return.

Henry blinked, LED momentarily flashing yellow for a split second before he turned to Connor, obviously surprised that someone else was talking to him.

“Ah, well…my occupation is one that involves constant interaction with humans, due to it being in a flower shop, so naturally I would have some variation of hospitality downloaded into my software. This of course would also involve how to properly interact with a child…” He answered calmly. He knew who the android detective was, who didn’t, which of course was why that was the exact answer he’d chosen to formulate for him. Henry knew what happened to deviants these days, and did not want to end up like them.

Connors led flashed yellow as he took in the information, adding it to his collection of things he had learned from other models and how they interacted with people. He was, of course, adaptive himself to make himself pleasing to humans. “What is the flyer your handing out?” He asked, just keeping the conversation going now, it was something to do while he awaited instructions from his creators or Hank who was off having lunch. Perhaps he should have asked to walk Sumo in the meantime, having become quite fond of the creature.

UTEP Football Opens ’23 Season, CUSA Action at Jax State Saturday on CBSSN

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP will open its 106th season at new Conference USA program Jacksonville State on Saturday, Aug. 26 with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. MT/4:30 CT in Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium in Jacksonville, Ala. The Miners and Gamecocks will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network and can be heard on 600 ESPN El Paso

The Miners are opening on week 0 for the third consecutive season, while the Aug. 26 kickoff is the earliest UTEP will open a campaign.

UTEP Head Coach Dana Dimel returns for his sixth season under the helm. The Miners are looking to be bowl eligible for the second time in three years after their 2021 New Mexico Bowl appearance.

Thirteen Miners who were All-CUSA in 2022 will suit in the new adidas gear as Praise Amaewhule, Deion Hankins, Tyrice Knight, Angelo Tejada, Marcus Bellon, Steven Hubbard, Kobe Hylton, Elijah Klein, Justin Mayers, Andrew Meyer, Joshua Sloan, Keenan Stewart, and Tyrin Smith will suit up in 2023. UTEP returns seven starters on offense, six on defense and five on special teams. Overall, 41 letterwinners return with the Orange and Blue.

Jax State finished its final campaign as an FCS program with a 9-2 overall record and 5-0 mark in Atlantic Sun Conference action. The Gamecocks rushed for over 2,900 yards, while averaging 251.0 yards per game and scored 37 TDs. JSU ranked first in the ASUN and fifth in FCS in rushing. It’s scoring offense (36.2 ppg) ranked 10th in FCS and first in conference.

“Any time a team goes 9-2, they know how to win, I mean, that's a strong season for them.,” Dimel said. “They did a great job. They're very, very athletic. They have great team speed on defense. On offense, they have their version of Frank Harris, a seventh-year quarterback coming back. So, I think he's got a little bit of experience to what he does. He's a very good player and very athletic. They got a bevy of runners in the backfield. They've got a lot of depth in their backfield. They got four of their five starters coming back on the offensive line, so they have a lot of depth there.”

UTEP came up short of bowl eligibility finishing 5-7 overall and 3-5 in CUSA play. The Miners’ run defense was something to talk about last year as they allowed the least rushing yards per game (136.0) since 1967. UTEP’s rushing attack gained over 2,000 yards for the first time since the 2016 season.

For Jax State, it’s the first time playing as an FBS program, while the Gamecocks are entering their first season in the new CUSA after playing in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2022, and the Ohio Valley Conference the previous nine seasons (2003-2021).

The Miners will not only face a nine-win team on Saturday, the late-August forecast is calling for a high of 97 degrees and 66 percent humidity.

“We've had a very warm summer, as we all know, in El Paso, and we've run and conditioned at a higher level than we ever have throughout the summer. Our guys are very well conditioned. Our guys are very prepared to handle the elements that the first game will bring,” Dimel said.

SERIES VS. JAX STATE

The Miners and Gamecocks will square off for the first time ever on August 26, 2023.

ABOUT JAX STATE

The Gamecocks, under the direction of Rich Rodriguez in his first season at the helm, finished 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the Atlantic Sun Conference during the 2022 season. Jax State, in its first season as an FBS program, returns 22 starters and 50 letterwinners for the 2023 campaign. Last season, the Gamecocks averaged over 36 points per game, while yielding just under 23 points. JSU averaged 423.6 yards of total offensive and gave up 398.7 per game. Leading rusher RB Anwar Lewis returns after gaining 818 yards on 115 carries (7.1 avg.) and eight TDs. QB Zion Webb also returns after rushing for a team-high 13 scores and 647 yards (5.6 avg.). Webb added 10 TD passes with 1,737 yards in the air and nine interceptions. Webb completed 55.2 percent (111-210) of his passes with a long toss of 76 yards. RB Ron Wiggins also returns after rushing for 461 yards and four scores. Leading receiver WR Galban Sterling returns after hauling in team bests in receptions (28), receiving yards (433) and receiving scores (three). Four of Webb’s O-linemen are returning: LT Will O’Steen, RG Clay Webb, C Treylen Brown and LG Brock Robey. FS Jeremiah Harris returns as the team’s leading tackler with 68 (third on the team in ’22). DE Chris Hardie returns after leading the defense with 5.5 sacks. BANDIT (OLB/Nickel hybrid) J-Rock Swain tallied 5.0 sacks, ranking second on the squad. Nickel Kolbi Fuqua led the team with two INTs. Rodriguez will enter his 26th season as a head coach and has 172-career victories.

EARLY START, AGAIN

For a school-record third straight season, the Miners will kick off the year in the month of August. UTEP had previously christened the campaign in the month on consecutive seasons twice, doing so in 1985 and 1986 and 2002 and 2003. Furthermore, the start date (at Jax State, Aug. 26) is the earliest in school history, eclipsing last season’s opener (vs. North Texas, Aug. 27) by a single day.

LEAGUE PLAY TO START

For the second straight season, UTEP will be tasked with playing a conference opponent in the opener. It marks the first time that has occurred in 31 years, when the Miners had a three-year stretch (1990-92) when they were members of the WAC. The Orange and Blue will battle new league member Jax State on the road on Aug. 26, hoping for a better start than the 31-13, setback in the season opener against North Texas on Aug. 27, 2022, in the Sun Bowl.

BEEN A LONG TIME

UTEP claimed its league road opener in both 2022 (W, 41-35, at Charlotte, Oct. 1) and 2021 (W, 26-13, at Southern Miss, Oct. 9). If the Miners can pull out a victory at Jax State on Aug. 26, it will mark the first time they’ve won their first conference road contest in three straight seasons since also doing so from 1948-50.

SMITH CHASING HISTORY

Tyrin Smith reeled in 71 receptions for 1,039 yards in 2022, giving him a chance to become the first player in program history with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons if he can surpass that total again this year. He has already helped the Orange and Blue achieve something that had never happened before, teaming up with former Miner Jacob Cowing (1,354, 2021) to give UTEP 1,000-yard receivers in consecutive campaigns.

AMAEWHULE VYING TO BECOME SACK KING

Praise Amaewhule heads into the 2023 campaign with 17.5 career sacks, which is second at UTEP behind Gonzalo Floyd’s school standard (20, 1990-91, 93). He took sole possession of second place in the category last year by recording a pair of sacks, which propelled him past both Herman Whiting (16, 1979-82) and Chris Mineo (16.5, 2002-05).

SUSTAINING SUCCESS UNDER DIMEL

UTEP enters 2023 in search of a third straight season of at least five wins, something it hasn’t achieved since it did so from 2004-06. The Miners are also hoping to earn a spot to a bowl game for the second time in the past three seasons, which would make head coach Dana Dimel the first UTEP HC with multiple bowl bids since Mike Price. Prior to that, it hadn’t occurred since 1965-67.

LOTS OF ROAD GAMES EARLY ON

UTEP will play its season opener and three of the first four games of the year on the road. That’s the first time it has occurred since the 2015 campaign, which included three consecutive road contests out of the gates.
