very very jean valjean centric because i love him and he deserves the world <3 im not sure if pmv or animatic would apply better to this, but either way, i hope you enjoy it!

[Inside of the gifted parcel is a set of twin set dresses along with another one set dress.

The twin set dresses shows a white top, ruffled around the wider collar along with wider sleeves. The shirt is stitched to a pleated skirt, one pale yellow and the other one pale pink, it reaches just below the knees, the fabric somewhat glittering when in sunlight. The middle of the dress where the stitches are is covered up with a fabric sash in the previously mentioned colours, the sash is tied in a bow aligning directly in the middle.

The one set dress shows a slightly longer frame than the previous dresses, reaching just above the ankles with the petticoat sewn into the inside of the dress, giving it a fluffier look and feeling. The dress is a soft white that fades slowly to a pale purple as it reaches the bottom. Alike the previous dresses; the collar is also slightly ruffled, however this one is sleeveless unlike the other two. The middle of the dress has a pale purple sash tied into a bow, resting on the left side of the dress.

There are no tags on these dresses, they were clearly homemade, or at the very least expensive judging by the soft and rich fabric. On-top of the neatly folded dresses is a letter;

"A gift for the little ones. I thought they deserved some more dresses and I did not wish for the little prince to feel left out due to his sisters getting one each, so I made him one as well. I apologise if they're a bit too big, I did eyeball the measurements so they may be slightly off, but I do hope they enjoy them nonetheless."

My word. I never really expected that someone would care so much as to do this for the children... I'm not quite sure what to make of it. But the girls simply adore their new dresses, and they look wonderful. So thank you. You're very skilled with your craft.

That being said, however, I won't be giving the dress to N. While I appreciate the effort to include him, little boys have no reason to be wearing dresses. I don't want to confuse him.

au stuff under the cut (be warned i have literally zero idea how to format this whoops) (obviously major story spoilers for Cassette Beasts loll):

basically another Cass Archangel AU, but more gradual. after all the time spent with Morgante's spirit inside of them (??) and the events of the final battle against Aleph Null, they lost their humanity somewhat.

queue gradual transition from 'human but slightly off' to 'yep that's definitely an Archangel' here! i am thinking about making this tie into Mordread due to the lack of any info whatsoever on him beyond the fact he's dead but that's undecided rn. i think it's cool how Cass seems connected to both rebellion and conquest (Helia mentioning it, i would attatch a screenshot but you probably know the scene) and that ties in there so that'd be fun

the transition shows in no longer needing to use cassettes for transforming (they choose to do so for convenience's sake though - so much easier + cassette bonus health you don't get without), the static effect of transformation being a thing that flares up sometimes - like if shocked there will be a burst of sparks for example.

whole bunch of angsty potential here if i ever gain the confidence to write! their body changes and they're not sure what to make of this - it's cool but also they're not exactly happy they're basically an Archangel now after the whole main story drama. their friends help them cope though so it's fine (mostly). if i end up tying this in with Mordread then also that would come with so much drama

bonus thing: Cass doesn't immediately choose to return home due to emotional baggage and feeling they have unfinished business. then they freak out in 'what if they don't want me back what have i become would they even recognise me' - bonus points here as they're trans (NB) and used New Wirral as a way to come out to people for the first time! the way it gradually changes your body in the normal New Wirral way means they feel even if they were normal, they wouldn't be recognised back home. woohoo i love making my characters suffer :))

maybe this is sort of a reference to how Cassette Beasts was 90% of my non-binary awakening augh

if this premise has already been used, genuinely i haven't seen it before (and if so, awesome!! haha) and i am sorry

Kim taps her fingers against the rim of the sink, staring at herself in the mirror. What the hell are you doing, Kim? she asks herself, trying to keep measured breaths. She's replaying herself back, in her mind; from before the party to now, in the wake of it, struggling to adjust to the tide.

She'd had her cool when she'd first shut the door, but once she'd gone to dry her hands, she'd met her own eyes and was stuck in a bit of a loop with herself once again. Back and forth she'd go with herself, trying to muster up the nerve to step back out of the room.

Just open the god damn fucking door and go out there... toughen the fuck up.

And yet, somehow, the added expletive from the last time she'd insisted such doesn't provide the additionally spurring that she wanted. She wasn't even sure what the roadblock here was, necessarily; was it just the usual distrust? Unkillable, ugly thing- but a useful tool, perhaps simply trying to serve its purpose... The corner of Kim's lip twitches downward, eyes narrowing.

She'd be right to be distrustful, wouldn't she? Every time something's going right for her, it falls on its face- so how can Ramona make such bold claims? Especially given the woman's history! The track record so far with her partners hasn't exactly been the greatest; it isn't exactly a comfort to think back on some of them now, and how things ended for them, finally breaking her leering match to look down into the churning water.

She slowly shuts her eyes and takes a deep breath, pinching the bridge of her nose. Just thinking that's made her feel guilty, something heavy twisting uncomfortably in her chest. How can she even think that, still? After the way Ramona had so sweetly held her, and tried to reassure- even when she'd been pulling back from it, though unconsciously. She'd really believed what she was saying- that's what Kim had thought, at least, when she was searching her eyes the whole while. I really am a bitch, aren't I?

She grits her teeth and turns around, leaning back against the sink to prevent another staring contest. She listens to the water rush as she resumes her tapping, now facing a new problem. She didn't want to go out there with this heavy guilt still twisting her up... even if it would probably resolve things neatly.

She takes out her phone and navigates to her inbox, looking for a distraction- and apparently it's just the place; she sees a couple waiting for her, and sets about reading the first.

Seeing the familiar name, she actually smiles, sitting up a little. She still remembers her embarrassed agitation at the prodding, the night before, and how they'd even apologized later, even if a little flirty- and still riling her up for what she'd inevitably do, as acknowledged here.

Were you at Julie's party, or did you hear about it somewhere? Good grief... Thank you though, I guess. I blame whatever the hell Julie had at the drink table last night.

She answers the message privately, shaking her head a little. But then she stops, thinking again. They'd been alone in the room, save for the bunny apparently- or at least, she was pretty sure they were. Shit... Probably all the stragglers I was pushing over dragging Ramona out of there...

..That was so stupid, of course people were gonna know- they'd probably hit the nail just by assuming. That was a ludicrously bold move on her part, and were it not for the excuse of the booze, she'd be an idiot for not having considering that.

Trying not to kick herself too hard over it, she clicks her tongue in mild agitation, opening the next message.

re: my last post rambling about my siblings: i also realize of course that not everyone who has siblings has as good a relationship to them as i do, and that can be for any number of reasons, can have any number of resolutions, including just begrudgingly accepting that your sibling(s) are never gonna be the closest people in your life. i talked about how the bond i have with mine is akin to a commitment, because all of us prioritize each other, but i don't mean to make it sound idyllic or like it should be the universal standard. i am lucky but i am not naive. not everyone gets the siblings they would most wish to have, or some people just aren't that close to them and i don't particularly have a blanket judgment to make of that in all cases. however...

that guy i made a bunch of personal posts over the summer about because he was an emotionally abusive friend that i had to cut off, who asserted way too much control over my life, who was guilt-tripping and manipulative and sought to silence me etc etc etc he really was just never very accepting of me for who i was, never expressed interest in anything about me that didn't have to do with him, etc etc etc just that JERK guy who i still have nightmares about a few times a month. it took me a long time to accept that he wasn't just "depressed" and "anxious" but that he was actively using people; he wasn't accepting of harmony but always wanted control over others and their narratives, etc etc etc. there were certain sides of him i didn't see much because i got to know him in a rather isolated way. we had mutual contacts but i never worked with him or had a class with him or really even met him a few times before he started spilling his heart and soul to me privately and said i'm his best friend and i'm the only one who understands and supports him and basically pressured me to make him my project 24/7 and was incredibly disrespectful towards me whenever i asserted my own independence from him or just. wanted to see someone other than him or even just wanted to be by MYSELF. jesus. what a nightmare that guy was. IS, because i know he can't have changed and he probably never will.

THAT guy has a sibling. he has a little brother four years younger than him, and that guy was about two years younger than me. so his brother turned 18 this year. he graduated from high school. his brother is YOUNG, all things considered. and as much as he would constantly pour his heart out and gripe about every person he ever came into contact with (and as much as i now distrust a lot of the information he told me because i know he'll only ever say flattering things about himself and never speak forgivingly or with any nuance towards someone he labels now as "bad", including me)... the only time that i didn't really know how to listen with as open a heart was when he would start talking about how awful his little brother is. i'd be like, ok, so you had terrible friends in high school. all the people in your classes are shitty to you. this person has done you wrong and this person is awful and your parents and your family suck and this and that and this. no one has ever been good to you in your entire life except me? ok.

the ONLY time i was like "i don't know if i can take this at face value, i think you're being too harsh..." is when he would talk about his little brother. because i was like, well, from everything you're telling me, his problems sound like something he can very well grow out of. he'd be like oh he's PRETENTIOUS. lol ok. he's a senior in high school, of course he sometimes acts like he knows everything. why do you act like he's a lost cause? i could also tell that there must've been some personal jealousy in there bc his brother was kind of the "more accomplished" sibling, did better in school, that sort of thing. i don't know what it's like to be an older sibling or to feel like you're living in the shadow of a sibling, especially a younger one, because i've always kind of been on a different path than any of my siblings/there hasn't really been a sense of competition between us. i would try to give him the benefit of the doubt and be like "well i guess i really don't know what that's like" because you CAN'T assume. i give EVERYONE the benefit of the doubt and i try to take people, especially when they're being vulnerable with me, at their word, which is exactly how i got so involved with this guy and ended up being so used by him and under his thumb. horrible. he's a monster. anyway.

and whenever i'd be like "well he's just a kid" to every negative thing he'd say about his little brother, that's when he'd dismiss the subject and stop talking about it. and this isn't something that came up a couple of times but came up a LOT. he'd shit talk his brother to me at least several times a week, always unprompted, because why would i wanna hear someone badmouth a teenager? and it'd always be the pettiest shit. one time he even told me that he noticed his brother didn't come home last night and he didn't know where he was and i was like "oh my god is he ok? that's terrifying" and it's like he did that just so he could tell me "no i don't really care honestly. the two of us aren't close." it's like he wasn't just not-close with this kid but he was obsessed with hating him.

not only did his reasons never seem to satisfy me, but he never seemed to acknowledge that his little brother shared all of the traumas and adverse experiences he grew up with, the discrimination he faced and the familial trauma and the structures of abuse he would tell me about from his parents. he would mention how these are all the problems and the reasons he can't trust people and why he's so fucked up but he didn't seem to have any patience or empathy for someone younger than him brought up in the same exact environment. it's like he wanted his brother to always just fuck off and die.

none of this made any sense to me, it was if anything the BIGGEST sense of confusion i had with him for a long time because i dismissed all the ways he was cruel to *just me* until i started picking up all his patterns and realizing this all WASN'T just how he treats me. HE is the problem; HE is this entitled and controlling and nasty and manipulative towards everyone; HE has no self-awareness or regard for other people. it's not just ME not having the guts to stand up for myself when he made me feel uncomfortable or when i'd feel disrespected by something he said to/about me. he would know when he was saying something unacceptable or losing his temper; he did it with other people all the time. but he isolated and then lovebombed me so hard that i didn't see that this WAS how he treated everyone, but he made me in particular his prey because i was a trusting and trustworthy stranger, rather than someone who had seen him behave in such a way towards other people and could make the informed choice to stay away from him. it was never JUST ME but how could i have known that?? how?? i didnt know anything about his life except what he'd tell me, and he was actively sucking me away from all parts of my life he wasn't involved in, and/or forcing his way into them. there was no space between him and me; my life became his because he hijacked it and then forced me to do all his emotional labor and solve all his problems so i'd hardly have any energy to face my own.

anyway. yeah. it all made MUCH more sense when i realized HE is the problem between him and his brother. that didn't stick out as a red flag because again i'm trusting and i accept all these hypothetically broken or damaged familial relationships people have. HE really wanted me to hate this teenager for no good reason, like he wanted me to hate everyone else in his life that he'd ever decide to cast as a villain. i never understood why the teenage boy. never understood it. i'm like he's just a boy. OH but you're an awful horrible jerk who can't get along with anyone for longer than 2 minutes before you try and take control of everything about them and then lash out if they try to assert their independence. OOOHHH ok i get it now that makes sense. because that's what you've been doing to me all this time ohhh i get it.

THANK YOU FOR THESE NOTES... i didnt think my incoherent words would resound with people this much lol im flattered. >__< but YES and you actually reminded me of that... izaya didn't have much interest in socializing when he was younger and i think even in some of middle school he spent his time in the library too. i don't think the anime shows this part but izaya actually took a while before he finally agreed to shinra's request to start a club together.

he mulled over it a lot and realized that shinra was his complete opposite in that he had absolutely zero interest in people and the world around him and that fact was what made izaya want to figure him out more.

ANOTHER THING! and this is something i particularly found amusing when i first read this part idk how i missed it when i was making this post last night lol.

the last paragraph is so good to me. not only does narita specifically point out izaya's desire to keep a distance from other people, but he also mentions how it 'could be broken very easily', to the point where it surprises izaya himself. i feel like to some extent this is how is truly is and it's most definitely due to his parents' frequent absence growing up, along with forcing his little sisters on him before he was even in middle school. it makes me wonder if he even feels human at times when he sees other kids with their parents but that's just me getting off track.

something i've always thought about is the parallels between izaya and anri, of all characters. i don't know if he particularly dislikes anri, but he seems to really get on her for her approach at life, and her relationship with mikado and masaomi specifically.

considering izaya also distances himself from everyone, including his only 'friend', it honestly sounds like he's bitter and jealous here. because she has people who are willing to care for her and yet she pushes them away? to izaya, who has no such thing, does he take that personally? does he feel the same jealousy he does towards shizuo, because they are both 'monsters' who still manage to have more close connections than him?

i have to wonder if it's also a remark directed towards himself as well.

but i got terribly off-topic sorry. back to the tags (the entire point ofthis reblog...). the point about him maybe taking inspiration from oscar wilde is good!!! i can definitely see him doing that especially if he was reading his literature from a young age. it's funny you mention that cause that's kinda what vorona did isnt it...i think it's interesting you can draw parallels between izaya and so many charas in drrr. or maybe thats just me looking really hard and going 'how can i make this about izaya' like i do with a lot of stuff. either way thank you again for the tags i'm glad i could put into words how he speaks like an old man 😭

my thing about izaya is that he's so strange and weird and i love that so much. i didn't want to ramble too much in the notes of that poor person's post but i find the way he speaks and the words he chooses so interesting so let me ramble a little bit. this may or may not even be coherent so bear with me here im just going to speak my thoughts.

ok this got really fucking long and all over the 0place so im putting this under a read more sorry.

so i have volume 9 of the novel in both english and japanese. i only have two novels in japanese and that is this one and yuuyake wo. so i'm pretty crazy about this izaya speech analysis shit. anyways i was rereading thru the jp ver the other day just to compare it to the eng and i kinda realized that like.

a lot of people you can separate their speech in either formal and informal speech right? someone like shizuo speaks really informally and uses a lot of rough, dragged-out versions of words and stuff (しゃーねえ vs しょうがない) and then someone like shinra who speaks in a ton of yojijukugo and generally sounds like a nerd emoji gijinka.

izaya on the other hand rly... doesn't fit in either? i mean sure he sounds like another nerd emoji gijinka but it's kinda different. it's not so much the words he speaks but rather the intonation and his tone...

and he has his moments where he speaks pretty seriously and whatnot of course, but in general he just... doesn't sound very human when he speaks? i don't know if that's a conscious effort or not. is it his attempts at distancing himself from his own individual humanity? or is it just because he's a weird guy? i dunno. but it's interesting nonetheless.

one thing i will note though is that despite his somewhat inhuman speech patterns, it's also pretty...dramatic? to the extent where it's really exaggerated but also very cute and charming. (this part is important.)

i think a lot of what makes izaya's speech so weirdly inhuman is because he doesn't really use a lot of slang or similar lingo that people his age would typically use. i know mikado said in the novels that he doesn't really try to fit in with his age group's fashion sense either so it makes sense but still. he's like an old hag it's so funny. and it's because of that that when he says stuff like 'i don't get all hot and heavy over headless women' or whatever he said to celty it's really amusing to me because like... why is the strange man saying this?💀

another example i kinda giggled about on my twitter when i read it it's not even crazy and i sound corny and cheesy and stupid but theres this scene in vol 9 where izaya messages celty for business and hold on let me just put it as a quote.

he sounds so old saying 'video game' like 😭 idk it's just funny cause he barely even knows anything abt games like bro knows nothing im crying

in the jp hes like 「…ゲーム中なのかい？」 and then when celty tries to explain herself he says 「何を言ってるのか、良く解らないんだけど」 and im rly bad at tling parts of sentences and stuff but just know that the way he words it makes it sound like this gif to me

i love both versions i think the original jp makes him sound like hes so lost and confused (hence why pw gif cause lord that man always looks lost LMFAOOOO) and then eng tl just blunt ass "I don't know what you're talking about." makes him sound like full on hag 😭😭😭

OMFG WAIT I HAVE TO MENTION THIS FUCKING SCENE WITH SHINRA ITS SO FUNNY.

first i think it's funny the translation has izaya say fuck here cause he very rarely swears and i did read this one thing about how he only swears when his mask slips so to me this is like genuine bewilderment that he cant even hide LOL. second why is he so excited to hear about 'whatever sexual fetish' shinra has im crying he's so damn nosy . okay but this is not the funniest part let me add that now.

oh also another scene i think is really cute and amusing and funny is back when shinra was first still trying to get izaya to form the bio club w him.

1. shinra is funny as fuck in this scene but also izaya's "Hmm. Can I punch you?" made me havbe a good laugh. in the jp he says 「んー。殴ってもいいのかな？」 which is pretty much the same thing just with the intonation of like 'hmmmmmmmmm should i hit u or not...' sorry like i said im just bad w explaining this stuff. but i felt the need to point it out not cause im one of those annoying ppl who praise the original jp ver and reject translations and localizations i just think it's important for izaya specifically cause i love him and i want to analyze his speech patterns as best as i can.

i was going thru the novel just now for other stuff i wanted to mention and i forgot abt this part but it's so funny.

'Let's not get hasty. Type calmly, please.' its not even funny or nothing i just find it so amusinf whenever he talks like that💀 i will say though the english translation kind of makes him sound more weird and inhuman than the original. that line in the original was basically just him telling her she needs to calm down enough to at least type properly LOL. idk if im just being nitpicky cause this is izaya tho so feel free to ignore that. fwiw i like the eng tl bc while it's a different intonation than the original japanese ver i think if he did speak english it would probably sound smth like that anyways.

this too made me laugh like ??? seriously he is really nosy when it comes to people's intimate affairs. in the jp ver he calls them an 'intimate couple' which just is like .. ok bro💀

does anyone else see my vision of izaya getting cucked by celty (does it count as cucking when celtys the one dating shinra) while he looks sad and pathetic and miserable that he never decided to shoot his shot w shinra back in the day

if i were commenting on the actual stuff going on in this scene rn this post would be a lot olonger and even more terribly all over the place so im just gonna focus on how i think it's funny izaya says 'easy, man...' this is like one of the only times his words are somewhat natural and sound like smth you would hear someone else say. in the jp ver it's 「おいおい…」 which is somewhat less out of left field in terms of coming from izaya but still it's pretty surprisingly normal. i have to wonder if in that moment he's too worried about shinra to care about keeping up appearances.

this is just random and me making fun of izaya as usual but why the hell does he weigh himself after his showers💀💀💀 it's cute and endearing and only adds to his strong gap moe but still... it's strange...

speaking of cute things this is from a volume i forget but he says this one phrase a couple of times and it is just both really cute and also kind of idk... saddening. one of the times i can remember he says it is when namie was making fun of him or something and he replies 'Don't tease me. I'm only human.' or something along those lines and it's like . hm. ok.

i think it's cute he says 'dont tease me' a few times cause eughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (trying to ward off severe brain damaged incoherent thoughts) but 'im only human' is like... are you really? even after you try so hard to escape your own humanity and individual self so much... im going to try and give my thoughts on it here but this is just based off my hc that izaya has bpd so yanno. im basing a lot oif this on my own experiences sorry. i do that a lot. when it comes to just straight up acknowledging his humanity izaya has no problems with this because 'sure, i'm human. isn't that obvious?' is probably something along the lines of what he thinks. it's easy for him to just say that because it's just that. it's just words. it holds no real meaning and shows no true insight into how he actually perceives himself. but when it comes to actually having to come face to face with his own humanity and the fact that yes, he is only human, it's a lot more difficult because now it's out of his control. i wonder also if he has problems with perceiving his own self.
