Ep. 16: The Happily Ever After

Hello! =D

I can't believe this is my last We Are post wow- It feels like just yesterday I was here typing out my first one because I had one too many Thoughts about it. Anyways, not to get too sentimental on main, here you go:

Seriously though, I love how Fang is slowly but surely opening up to loud gestures of love (I think previously, he just wasn't used to loving loudly, he was used to loving with his whole heart but keeping it to himself because he never felt safe enough to express it).

I love how they're from absolutely different faculties and are still studying together like yess go besties who are in love with each other but are too oblivious to realise it!

Peem with Phum usually: *swats at Phum at the slightest sign of PDA even though he really enjoys it*

Peem when others say something about their relationship: So, Phum, what do you say, want me to kiss you senseless right here right now?

Peem says "Thank you for letting me step into your life" because he knows all the issues Phum has, that it's hard for him to really let people in. But he let Peem in to love him, and Peem is grateful because it gave him someone to love and be the comfort zone for, but also gave him someone who loved him.

Okay, about that dinner scene. I actually kinda liked it. The awkwardness of it, the halted conversation, the prompted actions. As with the rest of the series, they kept it real, and I'm glad for it.

A lot of BLs, especially Thai BLs forgive the parents too soon too fast, and I really like they did not do that here.

Phum just (sorta) started on this path of being on talking terms with his dad (not forgiveness, or forgetting what he's done, mind you) and I'm going to be carefully neutral about it. If Phum likes it, well and good. If the father does something Phum doesn't like well *looks at two of my wips specifically* I always keep back-ups.

Peem is never letting that go hehe

(I don't think Phum minds all that much now, because he did end up with Peem, fuck you Kluen)

Also I'm two eps behind on Wandee Goodday and I hear Title finally got a nice boyfriend role? Good for him!

We Are probably has the most kisses out of all the BLs I've watched and somehow the very last kiss gets the Best Kiss award. Surprising, but well-deserved. The kissed like they were dying and Chain tried to climb Pun like a tree, and I was gleefully watching and cheering them on.

Syb's 2023 MOTY List!

I had a lot of fun doing this roundup last year! Though it feels like a patchier year than 2022 for great wrestling, there were still a few real standouts that blew my socks clean off. Here's my top 5 recs!

Jay White NJPW Departure Series (Wrestle Kingdom 17 IWGP Heavyweight Belt 04.01.20203, Loser Leaves Japan Match vs. Hikuleo 11.02.2023, Loser Leaves NJPW Match vs. Eddie Kingston 18.02.2023) 

It was so hard to pick a single match from this series so I chose not to. The sequence of these really tells a complete story I was fully glued to in real-time. The IWGP WK match I slept on a little bit because everyone was buzzing over Omega vs. Ospreay, but  I have to say when I finally watched it, it has wormed its way into my brain and has not stopped chewing. The Hikuleo match broke me a little for the last offered too-sweet. And if you forced me to pick a match of the three to recommend, it would be Eddie vs. Jay. There’s something special about Eddie being the man with so much integrity, so much love for puroresu, that he almost made me believe Jay would fight for New Japan and win. I’ll close this by saying it felt really graceful that Jay got to put an endpoint on his time in New Japan, and tell a little story with it. I’m not sure most wrestlers get the chance for whatever reason when their contract ends, but this felt like a beautiful Shakespearean tragedy, and a great way to end a killer run in NJPW.

Yota Tsuji vs. Ren Narita (G1 Climax 33, 18.07.2023) 

The most memorable G1 Climax match for me by a long shot. Physical, deranged, so many gorgeous spots (that I will miss dearly from Narita specifically as he heads off to do…whatever it is that you can call House of Torture spots). I rewatched this three times. I loved the tie booking for the Reiwa Three Muskateers, it made A-block super fun. I was really hopeful after Tsuji’s backstage comments that they’d make a story out of Narita shedding Shibata’s shadow…alas for the booking that wasn’t. 

Saki Akai Retirement Match (Tag match with Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani, vs. Kazusada Higuchi & Naomichi Marufuji & Miyu Yamashita, 12.11.2023) 

There is so much to miss about Saki Akai. Although I honestly and sincerely wish more wrestlers would retire younger and let their bodies rest (or at least do a soft retirement and then come back to do bullshit) – god, I’m going to miss her. She’s been a mainstay on the DDT roster for as long as I’ve been watching and before, and carries the intergender work with unparalleled grace. This match was booked as a unique treat for me; who had an Eruption moment back when Sakaguchi and Higuchi had their singles match, and who loves both Marufuji and Yamashita. 

Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Page Texas Deathmatch (AEW Full Gear 18.11.2023) 

TOXIC!!! YAOI!!! DEATHMATCH!! INSANE!!! This match probably would have made it on the list for the “stapling my son’s drawing and then drinking the blood from the wound” spot alone, good god. If people didn’t believe Swerve was a mega-star before this match, they surely do now. Match that made me dissolve into monkey noises, and easily my favourite AEW match this year. 

Mask vs. Mask 5-Way Cage Survival (Dragon Kid vs Shun Skywalker vs Strong Machine J vs Ultimo Dragon vs Diamante, 02.07.2023)

Dragongate is honestly a promotion I’d love to have the time and attention span to carve out some more space for. Luckily I do have puro friends who are willing to catch me up on the dynamics so I can swing by for banger matches like these. And wow, holy shit, this was a cagematch for the age. Pulling on the drama of Dragon Kid who promised the survival of his older mentor Ultimo Dragon – leading into the personal beef of Strong Machine J and Diamante, and crystallizing to another horrible moment from one of wrestling’s best working heels right now, Shun Skywalker. This match had it all!

when i first started listening to lebannon hannover i didnt know that larissa is from switzerland and when i heard her speak geman for the first time (in gallowdance) i was really surprised how good her geman was lol so naturally i looked her up and found out that she is from a german-speaking country so it checks out

their german songs are just so good (du scrollst: banger. kunst: banger. your fork moves: banger) i like them a lot more than some of their english songs (even though they are all really good!! maybe its just the german in me that wants to say that)

xmal deutschland have some english songs but MANY of their songs are also in german (because they are a german band wow) and i fuck with their german songs SO HARD (großstadtindianer?? schwarze welt?? eisengrau?? BANGINGGGG) even though i also love some of their english songs (eg matador <3)

sanguis et cinis is also an austrian goth band that i love (teufel an der wand?? SLAPS) their early german songs are actually better than their english ones imo

i really dont know where im going with this, i just normally dont listen to any german artist (outside of the goth sphere exept like die ärzte and seeed/peter fox) so i always love to hear german in places i dont expect <33 SHOUTOUT TO THE GERMAN GOTHS RAAAAAAA ICH LIEBE EUCH

26. fave colour and why?

Ourple. Purple! Specifically the really really nice rich shades that feel almost neon but aren't. They're very cool!

I used to love green, for years and years. I think it was mostly because I wanted to be less 'girly' and wanted to like a colour not many people did. Later I learnt that I don't actually give a shit what anyone thinks my fav colour means about me and realized purple is a banger. Good colour, great stuff. I think purple means more to me than I realize because changing my fav colour sort of felt like me establishing to myself I can like whatever I want and it won't matter what people think of me. I know myself better than anyone who wants to criticize me.

Purple fucks and they can fight me about it <3

33. any hobbies?

I love that I had to go to my partner to ask if I have any because drawing/gaming is so common I honestly forgot those were hobbies fngdfhj Whoops! I draw a bit when the moon aligns perfectly each month. I also love to game, games are super fun. Sorta like my escape from everything. Open world, exploration, creature-y games appeal to me a lot. My most played are Ark Survival Evolved, Monster Hunter World/Rise, Terraria and Skyrim. I'm SOOOO excited for MH Wilds next year!! That one looks like it'll appeal to me immensely, I can't wait to fight things I'm like 5 tiers under for my own amusement.

I do, however, also dabble frequently in intense worldbuilding that no one but 2-3 people ever see. I can think up entire worlds and plots and characters in the span of 20m, it's pretty insane. Painful because I can't ever do anything with it either, but I suppose it's also kinda neat!

Recently it's been nothing but Nexomon. A lot of the time my fixations determine where that unnatural worldbuilding happens! I do have a couple original worlds/characters of my own as well, chilling in my head :]

Syb Reviews G1 Climax 33 July 21

Oh this one was a card for me I watched a lot of it! LFG! I also have an unfiltered commentary on the match outcomes if people are interested, though there’s more kvetching in that one ;)

1. Yoshi-Hashi vs. Tanga Loa

Skipped this one, no deep connection to either wrestler

2. Ren Narita vs. Gabriel Kidd

GREAT match. Oh I popped so much the way my special boy Narita was the first to watch the tape and catch out Kidd on his sneak attack entrance. Excellent spots by both wrestlers, made me hope that Kidd has some better matchups moving forward in this block (I’ll be watching!). Mixed feelings on the finish, see my notes!

3. El Phantasmo vs. Great-O-Khan

Skipped. My best to the shoot guy behind El Phantasmo though, I hope he can see his family soon :(

4. Hikuleo vs Chase Owens

Skipped. No chase owens match etc

5. Will Ospreay vs. KENTA

The fact that Kenta pulled out the NOAH bullshit for this match overrode my dislike of Ospreay enough to catch this one. It was a good match! I think if you’re a Kenta enjoyer it’s definitely worth seeing, some delicious brutal kicks, nice back and forth, fun spots. Thoughts on the finish in my other notes!

6. Shota Umino vs. Kaito Kiyomiya

DELECTABLE. LOVED THEM. @dansedan described this as sparkly boy vs. sparkly boy and sooo true bestie. I *definitely* want more from this rivalry. Only match that I watched on this card that I thought the finish was perfect for mwahhhh

7. Kazuchika Okada vs. Taichi

Everyone out there saying this is a show-stealer match is SUPER right. Honestly the last three on this card are one banger after another, it’s really hard to pick which one is the must-see. Woaaaww both wrestlers brought it, and it was fun to see Kazu work a little more heel. Mean Preps vs. Terminally Online Goths match. See also my notes about the finish for this match.

8. SANADA vs. Yota Tsuji

HOW IS YOTA SO INSAAAANE IN ALL HIS MATCHES. WoAWWWWW like he’s just??? so???

Ahem. This match was fantastic. The way these two match up on charisma, vibes, wrestling power...the developing history between the Ex-LIJ Champ SANADA and the new-LIJ upstart Tsuji...ough it was SOMETHING ELSE seeing Tsuji be so goddamn over in SANADA’S HOMETOWN. WOW. A++ this match was fantastic, great main event.

wow, i missed reading these and i missed uuu!! <33 and yn's mother is very observant especially when it comes to yn. knowing abt what yn went through is like a wake-up call to her to step up, not as her mentor or boss but as her mother. to answer your question, satoru's family runs a restaurant business and he owns one of them. And Rie lmao she came back. she's still into satoru bc she thinks that whatever he had for her in hs is still there. but that's far from how satoru feels abt yn. satoru liked rie back then but he fell in love for yn, solid. Rie just can't accept that Satoru doesn't really want what he thought he wanted with her. YN losing the baby was the hardest part to write in these last chapters. I wanted to show everyone how much she loves her child. that pregnancy changed her outlook in life. that's why even after losing it she was still hopeful. bc she wanted to feel that happiness, that love again. and maybe the next time she does, she'll be able to meet and hold her little angel :'))

i haven't started summer troupe act 2 yet (come to think of it, i actually need to get to one day princess first!) but. ive been periodically listening to a3 music lately and i swear every time i check the music page on the wiki to see song credits im reminded that i can literally never stray too far away from my vocaloid roots haha... i mean ig it makes sense its like. people who make music also work on. other music. but its still sooo funn to see! like wow. yuyoyuppe's done some of my favorite tracks on a3 and produces for babymetal AND is the originator of some of my fav vocaloid tracks... sasakure.uk worked on hisoka's character song! (that one i didnt even have to look up, i heard the first five seconds and went oh this is so much like little cry of the abyss aka one of my favorite songs of all time. highly recommend if u liked traumerei and void) anyways. its just. its nice. i was reminiscing abt the music i liked today and wanted to check the lyrics of MKDR since it's one of my fav deco27 songs and then boom credited for arrangement is emon(tes.) chikage and homare's chara songs are written by the guy who did the gsnk opening. hes credited on other a3 stuff too. i think what i'm realizing by this is just like. ...huh, i listen to a lot of j-music. still! every time i recognize another name or something clicks its so fun for me. like im carrying my own secret web of music

it's incredible that you could find this much references to things you've been into in the discography holy shit. Like yeah sure it makes sense music maker also made for good music producers but it's still two words that collide!! that's wild. I listened to a few Vocaloid when i was younger but their songs has always been good!! and it's funny bc when i was younger, saying of any J-music "it reminds me of Vocaloid" used to get you the stinky eye on the assumption people would make that just "yeah so you just think J-music is the same", which is! absolutely never what i would mean by that, but therefore i've kept for myself all this time "Hisoka's first solo really sounds like a Vocaloid's song" and the fact you, a pro, comes and tell me not only exactly that it's because it was composed by a Vocaloid composer, but that their musical style is shining through, is really gratifying. I'll definitely need to check out the Vocaloid songs he worked on, i really love traumerei and i would love to hear more by this artist.

And i'm losing my mind over the fact Chikage and Homare's songs were written by the guy who did the gnsk's opening???? I LOVE this song, it's been in my banger playlists in forever, and you're telling me the guy went to a3 and decided to write two others bangers? (two of my most listened solos at that??) that's so damn cool, worlds collide hard but in such a fun way.

Thank you so much for sharing a bit of your little secret with me, it was like opening the door to a whole lot of possibilities. It's one thing to know that most of the composers/arrangers worked on Vocaloid or various songs, it's another to point out to those specific songs and get a blast once you connect the two, and i appreciate you sharing that with me.
