Your Highness! It's good to see you, and even better to work for you!

Samarie is an obvious choice for a yandere, but I feel like her character is a lot more nuanced than just 'the yandere'.

First of all, she's lucid about her actions, on how others might think that she is crazy, yet she still continues to justify them, arguing against the more rational side of herself that all she is doing is for her obsession.

She is very secretive, stalking and following her obsession with a scary amount of skill. She chooses to be in the background most of the time, which is tragic when you see how awfully she views herself. Low self esteem causes us to shut ourselves away, and this reflects in how Samarie may think her obsession views her.

Samarie also has had an incredibly hard childhood, growing up in the ninth circle of the Vatican which was so cruel that it was rumoured to not even exist. This makes her incredibly troubled, her mind constantly at war, and paired with her skill in magic..?

A dangerous yandere indeed. But not at all to her obsession..!

Samarie has been seen to do almost anything to make her obsession happy and safe, literally travelling to Prehevil solely to protect and help Marina on her journey.

Something very selfless... If she could put it towards something more healthy she would be a wonderful friend or partner..!

She is also incredibly passionate, most yanderes are, but to have someone who ends every conversation with "Love you" is something that would make my little worm heart beat so fast!

Overall, Samarie would be a loyal, passionate yet reclusive yandere, but someone dangerous to her obsession's enemies, or to those that make her jealous...

I have decided to not put any characters of my own here because then this list would be filled with my characters and nothing else

also only one per series since i want this to be an overall representation of my favorite characters

1.Phosphophyllite/Phos (land of the lustrous)

Phos is by far one of my favorite characters due to how they change throughout the series

also watching them suffer is what got me my permanent angst craving

phos is one of those characters that unfortunately due to being by far the most popular character in the series the fandom tends to dislike every other character in the series (particularly in this case since a lot of the other characters have mistreated phos in some way) which i think is a disservice to those characters

but phos is still my favorite

2.Blake Thorburn (Pact: Devils and Details) (no art for him because im too lazy to ask for permission to put him here and i dont want to put a piece of art on my post without permission)

ill be honest it was hard to pick if Taylor or Blake were going to be put here, since i didnt want to put two wildbow protagonists here, and while Worm was much more enjoyable for me to read i think Pact was a much more memorable story for me,

Since like blake struggled through the horrors, i struggled against decaying attention span

In general i gravitate toward fantasy stories more than superhero stories

3. Eve and aoi (birdie wing golf girls story)

Yeah fuck that these two are a pair because i love them both and refuse to seperate them

These two are genuinely one of my favorite protagonist duo's ever

like they are so funny with their insane antics and golf

4. Yuki Takamiya (thirteen sentinels aegis rim)

this one proved to be really hard to decide between Yuki, Okino or 426 since they are all favorites

i decided that it was best to fit one of the protagonists into this since it would be hard to talk about the other two without spoiling anything and needing a ton of context

from the second Yuki showed up i knew she would likely be a favorite

what i didnt expect was for her to be arguably one of the smartest characters in the game

I would say out of the protagonists she is the second smartest with Gouto being the smartest

Like i did not expect her route to be a detective story

5. Power (chainsaw man)

first person on this list who isnt a protagonist, and i did consider putting Asa instead of her and while i am undoubtedly more invested in Asa im also much more entertained by power

also i need to put one character who isnt a main character here lest i be seen as a basic bitch

we only have one season of her but this girl is so mentally unwell its like catnip to me

im eagerly awaiting the start of season 2

Erika would ask it. Alekks would be completely confused by the question, he'd ask how it was possible, how could she become a worm, wonder whether she's messing with him or not. But he would say yes, of course. He would not ask her the question, if he was a worm, he would tell her to use him as fishing bait so he could at least be useful to her and feed her. Alekks is nothing but practical.

13. What is something they find hot about their S/O?

Erika finds Alekks's innocence and sweetness hot. Anytime he's like "I got to help my mom" or "let me hold that for you" and sees like 👀👀👀. Alekks needs to take a cold shower every time Erika is assertive or stand up for herself.

Hey Goose! Thank you so much for the ask and the message ❤️- I’ve had a random burst of motivation so hopefully I can type this out before it ends up dying away!

🎲- Supposedly (ifykyk) Annika’s biological parents were Marina Ilyinichna Kucherova and Nikolai Mikhailovich Vublevski. Her mother was one of Nikolai’s informants in the KGB; they had no bond or emotional connection and were simply just two people who banged and had Annika.

Marina told Nikolai to either handle the kid or she’d rat him out. Whether that entailed killing it or whatever the fuck else, Marina didn’t care. Annika’s existence had ruined her life apparently; the pregnancy had been very difficult and caused irreversible harm to her body.

Nikolai didn’t wanna get everything he worked for shat on, so he took the wretched thing. Annika screamed and cried all the time and Nikolai had no clue what she wanted; he’d never wanted to become a father, never had any siblings or really known anyone with kids.

With how much she got on Nikolai’s nerves, Annika’s shocked he didn’t wind up killing her.

👑- The person who “raised” Annika during her formative years, and the only adult she had a positive experience with, wound up being her first kill.

There were several people who ‘raised’ Annika as a child. None of them stuck around long enough or really cared too much about her; she was more of a nuisance/chore girl for them. They’d tell her to sneak drugs, weapons, etc past police to get her out of their way. Nobody would suspect a child to be carrying all that shit, right?

For context: the organization that Nikolai ran was funded by the CIA and MI6, as he was trying to overthrow the Soviet government.

When Annika was about 6/7, MI6 sent someone to go in undercover. Former Special Forces guy, a father of 4. She knew very little about him, just that he was called Petr. That wasn’t his real name, but Annika never learned what his real name was. She didn’t see him as frequently as she should’ve, but ‘Petr’ genuinely cared for her. He planned on taking Annika to the UK to get the fuck away from Nikolai and those disgusting individuals he let his daughter be around.

‘Petr’ got too attached to Annika. He started slipping and screwing up his mission. Helping Nikolai, while he’s treating his daughter like less than a worm filled him with guilt every time he looked at either of them. So he fumbled. I haven’t thought about how yet, but bro dropped the ball.

When Nikolai found out about his status as a spy, the relationship he formed with the US and UK governments went out the window. Knowing how close Annika was to the man, he decided to use this situation as a lesson. She was 9, and with Nikolai’s hands keeping her steady, she put a bullet in Petr’s head as he kneeled in front of her.

🐾- Annika loves all animals. Dogs, cats, raccoons, lizards, bugs, leeches; she thinks they all deserve comfort and love. She doesn’t prefer any kind of pet over another, and if you gave her any pet, she’d happily take it. However, due to ‘work’, Annika doesn’t want to keep any pets, as she thinks she’ll end up neglecting them or if she dies on a mission there will be nobody to take care of them.

Honestly, if Annika was capable of living a good life, she would definitely be either a veterinarian or work at an animal shelter.

💋- Ester’s first kiss was after a show. It was with her fellow bandmate and the lead singer. He was way too old for her (17 and 29 😬), but she thought she was hot shit when they kissed for the first time. More information on this shit fest coming soon.

🌹- It was the guy I just mentioned. He ended up ruining her life, which caused her to join the Marines.

Ester was desperate for the approval of an older man since her dad died, and she found it difficult to find it in a healthy way. But that creep love bombed the shit out of her and she ate it all up. Praised Ester’s ability on the drums, gave her money, and spoiled her with gifts.

She started putting everything aside for the bastard. Her grades started slipping and she pushed away her real friends.

Ester ended up clocking that guy in the jaw when he kept trying to initiate sex with her despite her saying no. She realized the guy wanted her as a groupie and not an actual partner, and left the band on the spot.

This all lead up to her joining the Marines. Ester thought everyone hated her, she was “too stupid” for college, so… she shaved off all her hair and followed after Zach.

💔- The first guy and Philip Graves. Her relationship with Graves wasn’t serious, and she noticed she was slipping into her old habits again, so they mutually broke up. There’s no bad blood between them.

She also had a lot of flings with both men and women until she got the scars, but none of them meant anything.

💋- Zach’s first kiss was between him and a girl in his class back in high school. He was really bad at it apparently so she never wanted to do it again. Safe to say he got better, Steph can vouch for that 😉

🌹- Zach’s first relationship was with another soldier named Maxine Cain. They were in love with each other; they were even engaged, planning on getting married when their contracts expired with the Marines.

Cain was in Ester’s platoon, and the two meet after Ester decided Zach needed to start seeing women. He had no rizz, she had no rizz, they belonged together so she set the two up. They clicked almost immediately and the rest was history.

They were together for a long time, though they occasionally broke up due to work.

💔- Cain was the only person Zach was with before Steph.

She was killed by the Taliban. Her full body was never recovered, but Zach ended up finding her head and some of her limbs.

She is his most frequent and least hostile hallucination.

For the last month I’ve only been drawing furries so I decided to draw a human for a break. As much as it makes me sad, one can’t live only on anthropomorphic squirrels and mice.

I took this opportunity to draw in Callimara’s art style. She’s a big inspiration for me. Mainly with her storytelling. Ages ago I did like a short series (that I never finished and don’t plan to) on my blog where I made OCs based off of the legend of Saki Sanobashi. It was inspired by her series where she redesigned characters from Yandere Simulator. I’m a big fan of that series. If I ever go completely mad, I’m making a PC 98 style visual novel adaptation of the whole thing! Finally giving us the Yandere Simulator game we all deserve.

But speaking of video games made by a one man team, Fear and Hunger one and two! Some of the best games ever made! Never played any of them in my life. But I sure watched an eight hour long lore analysis video on them! And all of SuperEyepatchWolf’s stream archives on the games. And both Worm Girl’s videos on the game…. I can go on and on.

I decided to draw Marina. She’s my favourite character. Just a manic pixie dream girl occultist during pretty much an apocalypse. What’s not to love? Also loads of baggage with alternative universe catholics. Just like me for real! Also she’s canonically trans and I head cannon her as pansexual. I’m pansexual and I got to spread my pan agenda fellas. We already got the bicon Olivia and you can never have enough of people who love the whole gender buffet.

Speaking of queer characters in Fear and Hunger, I got to make like a big piece with all the queer characters at pride. There’s a lot of them. If you’re a sad queer person into some narly horror then I would sure recommend these games.

Lastly this piece was inspired by SuperEyePatchWolf’s most recent archived stream on YouTube. Or at least it I think it is. Marina’s crying because of her complicated feeling of her abusive father finally being dead. I was really scared she was going to leave the party at that moment and get turned into a monster. But she shook it off and joined the party again.

rhys: another "you lose, but maybe it's on a technicality" thing, bc he also did this with bowyn -- bowyn's also not technically a DREAMER, as in they're not devout at all, but rhys' friendship with them is still an accident, PLUS he's allowed bowyn to hang out with his new court faction without actually requiring them to convert/join, so into the top three he goes. bowyn likes to dramatically quote tenets of the tablet at him to annoy him

glyndwr: also loses on a technicality. i guess NONE of these top three should count because two of them are ex-nightmare and rhys is kiiiiind of a deserter too but whatever. also glyn still loses this one very hard because even if it happened AFTER he left the court: alan is like, the platonic ideal of a dreamer. he's the poster child of dreamers. he's the pale tree's most specialest beloved perfect baby boy. and glyn dated him for years and is still best friends with him. that has GOT to count for something here

tarahnis: still talks with his dreamer podtwin (albeit in secret) and is easygoing enough that if he DID end up chatting with non-courtiers it would be pretty likely for him to stumble into some normal friendships. also not as plugged in to the hostility of it all as some other courtiers; he's not really in the court because he hates dreamers or the pale tree, he's there bc the way of life there just makes way more sense to him.

sorcha: on the surface, more easygoing than most, but the second she found out her new friends were actually dreamers there WOULD be some immediate violence happening

rue: they have probably had a few almost semi-normal moments talking to dreamers through the bars of their cages but. that's about the most i can imagine happening?

sigvas: ew. would not talk to dreamers. generally holds them in contempt (and, while they'll never admit it, also resents and envies them). it COULD still happen, but it's just not likely.

lisk: swinging axes at everything that moves. you cannot talk to her for long enough to accidentally befriend her

gann: barely a courtier, and also excessively friendly, but he's this far down on the list because it wouldn't be an accident. he doesn't give a shit. he's networking, baby!!!

fidelma: dreamers are dirt to her. worms. she could talk to a dreamer for hours and never develop even the tiniest scrap of affection or sympathy for them. nothing behind those eyes 💗

callas: literally almost never leaves her headquarters, and also actively HATES dreamers way more than any of our other courtiers. the most interaction she has with dreamers is like, evilly inspecting captives when they're brought before her throne and then loftily yelling "FEED THEM TO THE THORN HOUNDS" or something. it's just not happening

Electra Heart by MARINA (at the time Marina And The Diamonds)

'Changed my brain chemistry' as the kids say these days. The combo of the There's Something Dangerous About The Boredom Of Teenage Girls vibes with pop really got me. I first listened to it during what was probably the high point (low point?) of my (then undiagnosed) depression. Teen Idle, Valley Of The Dolls, and Primadonna were on constant repeat, make of that what you will. Special mention to Bubblegum Bitch because of course. This album was/is undoubtedly my Joker and I truly do think it, in part, made me who I am today. Shout out to the time I wanted a heart beauty mark tattoo to match the Electra Heart heart beauty mark.

Born To Die by Lana Del Rey

If you were an afab teen when this came out you almost definitely listened to this album, doubly so if you were mentally ill, tripley (is that a word?) so if you were into old Hollywood, and quadraply (not sure if that's a word either) so if you proclaimed older men were your type. I was all four, so, naturally, Lana became my saviour. Off To The Races, Diet Mountain Dew, and National Anthem were songs I desperately wanted to live in, for better or worse, and I yearned to be as cool and apathetic and desired as the girls in the songs. Video Games didn't hit as hard for me at first, but i would grow to love that one, too, same with Summertime Sadness. And, perhaps predictably, Lolita wormed its way into my psyche almost immediately. The fact that this album and Electra Heart came into my life around the same time really did a number on me.

Cry Baby by Melanie Martinez

Yeah, yeah, we get it. You were deeply mentally ill as a teen and sought escapism via pop music with Problematic Themes.

Sue me. At the time, I hadn't heard anyone who sounded like Melanie, so I was intrigued and fell down the rabbit hole. Pity Party hit me the hardest as I found it difficult to socialise with my peers, and still do (thanks late diagnosed autism), so this one felt Deeply Personal. Tag, You’re It and Milk And Cookies are also favourites due to the storytelling and atmosphere. Carousel also deserves a special mention for the same reasons, but I feel the other two do it just a bit better.

Lemonade by Beyonce

Look, we all remember where we were when this dropped. I especially remember how bad I felt for her, hearing the pain Jay Z put her through (which is why I find it insane she took him back, but that's neither here nor there). Hold Up remains incredible, from the instruments to the video to the dress (I need it in my life), and the spoken word at the beginning, but if I had to choose a favourite track, it's probably Daddy Lessons. Afab persons with complicated relationships with their fathers rise up. Love Drought and Freedom are both tied for a very close second. And of course, Sorry deserves a mention purely for the level of anger in it. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall when Jay first heard this album.

august vogel ― he would have had a stronger opinion when he first moved to shrike heights, but now that the novelty of working at the arcade has worn off, he feels pretty much the same about all retail jobs. he'd less likely work at an establishment with food, but retail is retail, whether you're selling the customer clothes or the chance to make a fool of themselves on the roller rink. so, out of anywhere in the mall, august would hate having a higher up job in one of the offices. he'd hate to be made to work harder than he currently does by being something like a general manager or a lawyer or all of the other titles he's not qualified for.

florian bonavita ― florian would likely be able to find something that he liked about working in most stores, even if it was only his co-workers. he'd probably never want to work at dirtbusters, though, as not only is it dirty work that he doesn't particularly care for, but it's also not the same kind of structure as other stores that would allow him to bond with co-workers or customers - as least, that's what he thinks. additionally, florian would never be able to work at most places in the food court, as the last thing he wants to do is come home to his vegetarian partner every night smelling like meat products.

marina davies ― it's hard to pinpoint only one store that marina wouldn't want to work at, but to answer more broadly, it would be anywhere that doesn't involve participation and movement from her in a more hands on and athletic manner. where she works now, the aquatic centre, the jazzercise studio, and donna's, they all require her to participate in activities that she absolutely loves, and now that she's been treated to such great means of work, she couldn't work anywhere else.

bash monet ― the cinema. the first trip bash took to the cinema once he left his hometown was a nightmarish experience; while he had already realised that the strict, religious upbringing wasn't something that he resonated with or could live with any longer, he hadn't realised how much his parents and his faith dictated. it's safe to say that the films he was allowed to watch were so different to the one bash decided to see by chance, and it was jarring and traumatising for the bash, who was still trying to get acclimated in the real world. though he's slowly opening himself up to more and more, he doesn't think that he could ever work at the cinema and be forced to catch glimpses of stories filled with sex and violence.

billie reid ― dick's sporting goods. she doesn't actually have an issue with the store, and she's friends with plenty of jocks, but it's really just not her pace. the most athletic she gets is when she's dancing, and even that is a rare activity for her to participate in. she wouldn't be any good at helping the customers, and feeling no good at something would be an awful experience. not to mention, considering the fact that she's been book smart and a book worm her whole life, she's sure there would be so many jocks both working at dick's or shopping there, and she doesn't wish to relive the awkwardness she felt when faced with how vastly different she is from most of those people, much like what she experienced in high school.

Pearlina mom headcannons? The propoganda must spread

Oh you have opened a can of worms my friend because I just created a Pearlina child and have been thinking about this constantly (her name is Isadora I'll prolly post more specific info abt her later)

That being said, I have many thoughts.

•this child is spoiled ROTTEN, but not how you might think. Marina is actually the parent that spoils her kid. She wants her child to have the whole world and never suffer, and she will give them absolutely anything they ask for. Pearl is surprisingly the more down-to-earth one. She remembers how hard it was to learn how to live on her own after everything being handed to her as a kid, and doesn't want that for her baby. But... She really can't say no to her kiddo... or to her wife.

• Even though they tour and are very busy musicians, Pearl and Marina could never bring themselves to leave their baby behind. So the kid spent many of their early years at a music studio or on a tour bus. Marina and Pearl always put the kiddo first though, making sure they got all the attention and care they need. The kiddo loves going to work with their mamas.

• Peal and Marina would totally bring up the old Splatfest themes to see which one their baby likes more. Y'know, "C'mon sweetie! Do you like pancakes or waffles more?" They probably set little bets on it too, like whoever looses has to do the laundry for the week.

• They're very honest parents. No sugar coating or bullshit, they will always tell the truth. And sometimes it's good, when the kid has a full understanding of The Great Turf War from an inkling and octoling perspective. But it can also backfire when the kid learns how sex works in great detail and tells all the other kids at school.

Mistoffelees has been dancing since he was 8 years old! After Bustopher and Jenny met, fell in love and planned their life together, Misto met Victoria as a child. They watched a tape of Jenny, playing Clara from The Nutcracker in her debut ballet. Mistoffelees from there fell in love with ballet. He STILL has the same tape and watches it occasionally. It makes him cry a lot ;; so it's a special occasion.

His favourite thing about Tugger is his drive and optimism for his future! He's happy to be with a strong-minded person.

His favourite band is Mazzy Star :-] He loves gentle, shoegaze-y music and classic rock. He also loves Slowdive, Sonic Youth, Morphine and The Velvet Underground.

He takes VERY good care of his physical health. He has very toned legs and a well-built upper body (obviously as he’s a dancer), and clocks in at about 5′9 :-]

His coffee order is a green tea latte espresso infusion, or he just takes it black with a bunch of packets of sweetner.

Despite being so passionate about dance, he always feels like theres something more to life than what he signed up for. He’s very paranoid he’ll dance his life away with no time for the true fun in life. He has an insecurity about loosing his youth to his art :[

His hobbies other than ballet include: old cinema, theatre (viewing, he loves going to plays), board games, old cars (he drives a dark green, morris marina which he works on with his dad!), entomology, gothic literature + writing poetry !! 

He doesn’t drink much alcohol but his drink of choice is usually fancy artisanal gin with lemonade or very fruity blends of liqueurs. He also drinks just straight diet coke sometimes with a lot of ice !! He’s an ice eater. Kinda guy who bites his ice cream.

Victoria does step on his toes a lot, metaphorically. Often pestering him or watching his every step when he dances. Mistoffelees finds this tedious, but goes with it as he knows that she’s very versed.

His favourite season is autumn. He loves walking and kicking up leaves, feeling the drizzle upon his umbrellas and sitting in cafes during storms. He loves a gloomy day.

His favourite food is truffle chocolates. One’s that are so rich they melt in your mouth and indulge every sense! He loves ones with berries, champagne and coffee flavours. He can;t eat them as often as he wants though! They’re little treats.

He played the violin as a kid! As a mandatory instrument in his primary and secondary school! He can’t remember a lot of it, but still has his old instrument!

Mistoffelees is quite awkward. He doesn’t really know what to do in many social situations. It takes a lot for him to fully open up. 

He's quite a plain jane when it comes to fashion. Mostly because he's in the ballet studio in sweats and a v neck 24/7 !! But I think he starts to dress a little more outside of his comfort zone ! He would wear sweater vests, slouchy flannels, courduroy trousers. Stuff like this!!! (the second guy is actually a qt idea for how i picture my misto):

“I love you.”

It’s been three days since she last said those three words to her girlfriend during a surprise visit to her work, three days since she saw her cheeks flush to that beautiful rosy color for the first time (to which she has it saved to memory, playing the same scene in a constant loop hoping to recreate it on canvas later on).

And three days since they last spoke to each other in sentences that weren’t one worded and so one sided.

Needless to say, the tension in their little one bedroom apartment was so thick you would have trouble cutting it with a knife. Everyone who knew them could tell, with glances toward the two that screamed worry and the texts, asking if one of them needed somewhere to stay for the night or if they needed someone to talk to.

Shion normally would’ve been filled with joy over how nice and considerate the others were if it weren’t for the fact that they (mainly Pearl and Marina) kept blowing up her phone for what felt like every five minutes. So much so that she ended up texting in the group chat that she and Anita were fine and turned off her phone, tossing it on the nightstand leaving it forgotten for the time being.

Pardon her language, but consequences be damned. She can deal with them later once her headache from the constant noise of her phone notifications and the overbearing silence from her girlfriend goes down.

Which leaves us to now in the present, with her sitting on the living room couch with a sketchbook trying (and failing) to draw anything and Anita in the kitchen washing dishes. To where the space normally would’ve been filled with the sounds of their voices talking about their day and any other nonsensical thing that was on the top of their heads, the only sounds between the two at the moment being the water from the faucet and the graphite scratching the paper.

She hated it.

Throughout these three terrible days she’s missed the constant presence of her girlfriend. The amazing cuddles they had after a long day, the electrifying little touches that gave her goosebumps all over. The way she would randomly switch to her mother tongue whenever she starts to ramble about the latest thing she got interested in. The way they would whisper sweet nothings in each other's ears mixed with kisses in between whenever either one of them had a nightmare that night (Slowly she’s starting to think she may or may not have a problem with being little bit too dependent and clingy, but she can look at that whole can of worms later).

She wishes she never said anything.

If only she never said those three dreaded words then she would’ve never been in this situation with Anita in the first place. They probably would’ve been talking and laughing about something funny one of Anita's coworkers did at work, with the day ending with some cuddling on the couch, instead of this thick air of silence between the two.

‘Of course she doesn’t love you.’ A traitorous voice in the back of her mind tells her. She’s inclined to agree.

While in the middle of her deep thinking she doesn’t notice Anita standing in front of her, with a blank look on her face. It took the inkling a few tries of calling Shion’s name and touching her shoulder before she was able to catch her attention.

“There you are, silly.” Anita mutters.

“...” Shion stares, still absentmindedly scribbling in her sketchbook before realizing a second later and putting it off to the side, slightly embarrassed.

She watches Anita contemplating what to say next with that blank look still on her face, trying to look at anywhere but her. It slightly broke her heart. She notices that the inkling’s eyes ended up stopping at their big wall of photos, possibly glancing at each picture with just the two of them. Possibly thinking about better times.

“I...Can we talk?” She eventually said.

Oh no. 

This is it, she’s finally decided to break things off. All because she made the idiotic decision of saying ‘I love you’. Anita’s gonna kick her to the curb tonight, making her go back to live with Pearl and Marina. She might as well go and turn back on her phone right now to say goodbye to the rest of the New Squidbeak Splatoon while she has the chance, cause she highly doubts any of them would wanna still hang out and stay friends with her when they could just hang out and be friends with her better half and soon-to-be ex instead.

“Um..Sure..” Shion reluctantly replies, starting to become nauseous. She makes room for the younger girl on the couch, which she takes with a soft ‘thank you’. The both of them sit there refusing to look at one another, neither of them wanting to start speaking before the other. The scar on the octoling’s back from her time in the metro begins to pulse with pain, making Shion slightly wince.

“So-” “I just-”

They both stop to look at each other, embarrassed from accidentally speaking over one another. Faces quickly warming, they both avert their eyes desperately trying to focus their attention at anything else around their little apartment. It felt like ages before a sound was heard, a sigh from Anita.

“Um...You can start, I sort of want to hear what you want to say first before I say anything.” She says, her voice almost lowering down to a whisper. Shion starts to sweat and can feel her hands start to tremble, her three hearts feeling like they could burst out of her at any moment. 

“S-sure!” She exclaims, wincing once more at how loud she must’ve sounded.

‘Cod I'm such a mess.’

She clears her throat, trying to get her bearings straight before she starts. From the corner of her eye she sees Anita start to subtly mess around with her hands. Knowing that inkling beside her was fidgeting from anxiety gave her a bit of relief, at least she wasn’t the only one who felt like jumping into a lake right now.

“Alright, I just wanted to start this off with an apology.” She says, all of a sudden she hears a rustle of fabric, from Anita turning to face her.

“Apology? An apology for what exactly?” Oh boy…

“Y’know...For saying ‘you-know-what’ and all.” Shion replies. “Isn’t that the whole reason why you haven’t been speaking to me this whole time?”

“What? That’s not the reason at all!”

.

Wait huh.

She turned to face Anita with bewilderment in her eyes, looking for an explanation to what she just heard. Nothing but silence is heard between them, suddenly she sees the younger girl in front of her starting to mess with her hands once again, beginning to pick at the skin on her fingers. As if on autopilot she reaches for Anita’s hands, gently holding each one with her own.

“What do you mean by that?” Shion finally utters with a softness heard in her voice, as to not agitate her girlfriend any further and end up scaring her off. She starts to squeeze the inkling’s hands, trying to give her a bit of unspoken comfort, Anita gives out a deep breath and squeezes back.

“What I mean is that...that isn’t the reason why I haven’t spoken to you these past three days.” She says, staring at their hands. “I’m sorry that you took it that way. It’s just the way you said it out of nowhere caught me off guard and I ended up pretty much shutting down.” 

She pauses for a bit, looking like she’s on the verge of tears. Oh, how Shion wished she could take her face into her hands and kiss them away, but instead she continues to hold the inkling’s hands, gently starting to stroke one of them with her thumb.

“You know out of all of my relationships that i’ve had, you're the first one who’s said that to me instead of the other way around. When you said it three days ago I thought I misheard at first. But when my manager confirmed it by teasing me about it, that’s when my brain just stopped working.” Their eyes finally met, the dam that once held the younger girls tears finally breaking. 

“That whole moment we had in that break room kept replaying in my mind over and over again, and I ended up thinking ‘what if she just said it in a friendly way?’ or ‘what if both me and my manager misheard and she said something entirely different!?’. I know I could’ve just asked, but a part of me deep down was afraid of hearing your response.” Once she finishes Anita looks away, hesitantly removing her right hand from Shion’s in order to wipe away at her face.

Shion continues to look at her, not knowing how to respond to what she just heard. So instead she slowly takes Anita’s remaining hand closer to her face to give it a kiss. She then puts her arms out with a small smile and without a second thought Anita quickly moves closer, hiding her face within octoling’s neck and shoulder, her arms clutching the back of her shirt. The octoling reciprocates by wrapping one of her arms around her waist and the other one beginning to gently stroke the back of Anita’s head.

They held each other like this for what felt like an eternity. Both of them recollect their thoughts, trying to think of what to say next, the only sounds being heard from either of them being the small sniffles from Anita.

“I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t actually mean it, you know.” Shion finally says, slowly breaking their hold around each other in order to move her hands to have them around Anita’s face, gently redirecting her eyes to face her.

“Yeah, I know i’ve only been on the surface for around a year, and I know that I still don’t have a complete understanding of the customs up here so I ask for help a lot.” She pauses for a bit, beginning to gently stroke one of her cheeks with her thumb, being careful of the placement of her sharp claws. “But if there’s one thing I definitely have a full grasp on one hundred percent, is my feelings for you.”

Anita’s mouth slightly opens, her mind trying to comprehend what she just heard. Her eyes start to tear up once again, but this time of joy. Her cheeks begin to bloom that lovely pink color that Shion missed oh-so much and she starts to smile and giggle.

A minute later she feels a sudden weight on top of her, of Anita moving on top of her lap and hugging her once again in a tight but loving grip, her arms around her neck. It takes her a second to realize what happened but she quickly returns the hug with equal force, her head burrowing into Anita’s neck and her one arm around her waist, with the other tightly clutching her shirt. 

There they just sat there, neither wanting to let go of the other. 

“I love you too.” she suddenly hears, slightly muffled and in a whispery tone. Shion decides to say nothing in response and instead nuzzled her nose and sigh, to show that she heard.

All felt right again.

“So, this whole time you had me worrying myself to death all because you thought I said it in a ‘friendly way’?” Shion giggled.

Looking up to meet her girlfriend’s face, Anita pouted. “Look, where I'm from we don’t say it all nonchalantly like you did a few days ago.” She pauses a bit before continuing. “Oh a-and you just said it out of nowhere! What was I supposed to think?!” She exclaims.

Upon hearing inkling’s reply her giggles turned to full blown laughter. Anita, unable to escape the contagious noises coming from her girlfriend, started to laugh alongside her. 

After a while the laughs died down and they eventually both sat there on the couch in silence with little giggles heard here and there, limbs tangled together. The overwhelming and unbearable air between the two no longer there. The space between them is warm and loving again. It felt just like before, which left Shion nearly purring with delight.

“You know, this means i’ll just have to say ‘I love you’ to you whenever possible in order to have you get used to it.” Shion eventually said, breaking the comfortable silence. Not a second later Anita quickly sits up, untangling herself from the little cuddle pile with hints of a blush on her face beginning to form that she absolutely adored.

“N-now you know you don’t have to do all of that” Anita stuttered out.

“Of course I do.” Shion replied back. “What kind of girlfriend would I be if I didn’t show the love of my life how much I love her?”

“Noooo.”

She watches her lovely girlfriend put her face in her hands, trying to hide the rapidly growing blush on her face. Shion looks on with a fond look on her face, a bright smile beginning to form. “Aw, don’t be like that.” She brings her closer, slowly removing her hands. 

“Ok, so I won’t start off with something as strong as an ‘I love you’ anytime soon, how about I say what I love about you instead?” Shion says, trying to reach a compromise.

“I-” Anita suddenly stops what she was gonna say, her face back to having that contemplating look from way earlier. Upon seeing that, Shion’s smile slightly dims. “If you really don’t want me to then I won’t, the last thing I want to do is make you uncomfortable.”

The younger girl in front of her suddenly turns around to face her. Her red eyes meet the octoling’s warm gray.

“Wait what? No!” Anita exclaims while shaking her head. Her wild pigtails start to fly around her as she does the head motion. Her cheeks started to bloom with color once again. “I was just thinking, I-I don’t wanna be the only one receiving compliments here. I wanted to ask if I could do the same to you, that’s all.”

She moves one hand to nervously scratch her cheek, eyes breaking contact to look to the side. Shion looks on with adoration on her face. “Of course you can, if it makes you more comfortable with it.” She replies.

“Ok then.” Anita sits up a bit straighter, to show that she was ready. Upon seeing that Shion’s smile widens a bit more before putting a finger up to her chin, as if she was thinking of what to say first. “Now let’s see...What should the first compliment be.” She says. She purposefully takes her time in order to glance at Anita, who was slowly starting the squirm with anxious energy.

“You know what I love about you?” She starts off fully facing Anita, who startles a bit before looking at the octoling in front of her, not expecting that question.

“I-uh...no?” She stumbles her words a bit, not knowing how to answer.

Upon hearing her girlfriend’s response Shion begins to move closer, as if she were to whisper to Anita a secret she didn’t want anyone else to know, a secret just between the two of them.

“I love your little pick-up lines, even if they are very cheesy and very bad most of the time.” She says close to the inkling’s ear, watching it twitch a bit.

 “Wha-?!” She hears Anita exclaim. She backs up to her where she originally sat and covers her mouth with one of her hands, trying to hide the fact that she was close to laughing.

“How dare you, my pick-up lines are amazing!” Anita jumps up from the couch and begins to pace back and forth continuing to talk. Shion knowing this would happen just looks on, enjoying the view of her girlfriend’s pacing getting more aggressive with every step she took and animatedly going on a long-winded tangent. Her words begin to blur together, not really understanding her due to Anita starting to mix up the words from inklish and her native tongue. 

“-I feel like Marie must’ve said something to you. Ella lo hizo, lo sé. I swear the next time I see he-” The inkling stops mid sentence to look at her girlfriend, who suddenly doubled over in laughter not being able to hold back anymore.

Realizing that she was set up she begins to walk back to the couch with her arms crossed and silently sits on Shion’s lap. The octoling wraps her arms around Anita and begins to pull her in, letting the smaller girl lean into her all the while trying to smother her uncontrollable giggles.

“You’re the worst.” Anita finally utters, trying and failing to keep her poker face, small hints of a smile beginning to show.

“I love you too” She replies, with a smile.

I was gone for a quite some time and you're pro AA now? /gen! No hate but all I remember was your posts about how their interactions aren't about AA but about Armin alone and how he could be affected by Bert. What changed? Also glad you're well now awesome!

Hei, anon! A lot does, indeed, happen, over long periods of time. I wasn't a big fan of AA (though, it was never on the NOTP list, or if it was, it was nowhere near the top). And it's still not my cup of tea to actively ship - I just think it's neat. I've gone from finding it boring and a little forced, to loving that it exists. Sure, in the posts where I expressed my disinterest in the past, I'd sometimes tagg it "anti-ship", but this was so pro-shippers didn't have to see unfavorable opinions of something they liked; not because it was active hate. (And I didn’t even talk about it unless I was asked.)

Anyways, I've gone from feeling like Armin can do better - because Annie as a character didn't particularly impress me - to now being grateful for them finding together because it looks healthy and happy and built on mutual respect. I couldn't think of a better match for him now that we look at everything in retrospect. Because as I've always said: in the end, I want what's best for him, I want what makes him happy.

Now, when you say scenes, I'm assuming you mean scene, because I don't think I've talked exessively about their other scenes, just the crystal one. Because I never thought ALL AA scenes were "about Armin alone". No, of course the scenes are there to build on Annie as well. I might have made the point that the scenes weren't romantic in my eyes, but never "about Armin alone". Now, the crystal scene I DID analyze the scene to be about "Armin BEING alone". Almost wonder if you have me confused with someone because I only spoke about that one scene, only when asked, and I did NOT agree with the Bert theory at ALL. I was asked several times on my thoughts about the scene where Armin talks to Annie's crystal, and I felt strongly that in that scene, what Isayama was showing us, was Armin's isolation. Not budding romance. I won't reiterate that whole analysys, but I feel like the first part still stands. That scene, without the shippy aspect, still stands as one that's there explicitly to tell us several more important (imo) and relevant things.

(And for the record, I have always been vocal about my distatse for the Bertolt theory. If you saw me talk about it, I'm sure it was to explore the different possibilities; "either Armin did X because Y, or because of Z - but in that case, then---". I've always expressed how problematic that theory would be to the characters' agency. I actually big time hate that theory, and I'm almost upset you would think I advocated for it. I HATE hate that theory and always have.)

However, the ship part also turned out to be valid! Not only that, but there was so much AA that I flat out didn't hear about! It's only recently that I was even told about it all! See, I stopped reading the manga years ago, because my nerves couldn't take it. For good chunks of the archs ever since 90, I have only read summaries of. Always kept an eye on it, but yeah. I needed to take a big step back for my health. And oh boy, there was actually a (basically) explicit AA confession scene in there! I felt like a big idiot when I learned that, because some time ago, I was asked if I thought "the confession scene" was actually romantic. Like, did it canonize them. And I thought they meant the scene where Armin talks to the crystal, and that the "explicit confession" was when he said: "I wanted to see you" or whatever it was. And I even ended up "arguing" in the notes with someone that no, it hadn't been a very "clear" romantic confession. They meant it was obvious. ... When in reality, there was an actual confession scene and we were talking past each other. If I could re-do my answer, I'd tell the answer this: YES, that confession scene seemed romantic to me! ...I still don't think AA pre-timeskip + cystal scene is enough to make for a thoroughly built interest. They'd need more content for me to go "ok, Isa has established AA enough now that I buy it if they get to together". So me not believing it at the time of the crystal scene,... well, I stil lstand by that.

Over time, more AA content happened, making for stronger and stornger arguments, so I was won over in the end. Though, my dear anon, here's a kicker for you: I might have been less against it o begin with, if you aren’t just basically fed content ONLY from the ships you like. Because you see what you looking for. And, not being the AA community, I didn't come into contact with a lot of content that would have swayed me. I've always been big on canon. I started loving eremin for its canon bond. ... And for the same reason, I struggle to ship it now, based on later canon. For once in fandom history, a shipping community actually did what we ask them to: stick to their lane. Nobody from the AA community ever "bothered me" by showed me the video of Marina talking about Annie being Armin's obvious girlfriend, from way back when. Nobody told me the english translation of "you're actually a sweet person" or whatever it was, was much softer and sweeter in original. Etc. What I'm saying is there's a lot more AA content than I ever thought. And that has a lot of power to sway. ... Yet, I think what sold it for me, anon, was when Mikasa left Armin to die on the battle field (if that has been Eren, just saying...). His "childhood bestie" left him to choke and die... While, upon being told, Annie, said "I'll get him back" and went for it. That was the moment she started growing on me. It's actually... I'm actually obsessed with that moment. I'm so grateful to Annie, I can't stop obsessing over it. Fucking thank you, Annie. THANK you. I'll never not be upset that Mikasa and Levi left him there, and I'm lowkey shocked that not more people in the fandom had a reaction to that. I don't have as much of a need to discuss the manga online anymore. I have my opinion and I don't feel the need to make others agree. So I hesitate to even pop the lid on this can of worms, but yeah... Honestly, there's a lot of EMA salt there for me and Annie stands as the safe haven and someone who actually, *truly* sees Armin in the wake of the ending... so... I'm very glad he has her.

... So, what can I say. I recently learned Armin was a total gentleman when Annie ate pie, they had a sweet goobye, Armin landing in Annie's palm, the way she looked at him when he stepped up at the end, a CONFESSION, and such leveled normal dialogue, etc. There's more reason to accept AA into my heart now than "a long time ago", anon. I was wrong, AA was endgame and I'm happy about it.
